The document discusses finite resources and the importance of conserving them. It provides examples of finite resources like wood, water, coal, and oil that can be used up. Alternative energy sources like solar and wind energy are introduced as infinite resources. The document also describes taking action to reduce paper usage at school through audits and recycling efforts. This included creating a music video to promote conservation.
... paper and cardboard come back to life!
Separate waste collection is one of the ways to take care of environment. It saves resources and reduces waste. It guarantees a new life to what we simply call... waste!

Being Good Citizen
Part 1: Reading passage about being good citizen to save the world
Part2 : Reading Comprehension tasks exploiting the passage
Part3 : Using the imperative more tasks about protecting the world (afformative and negative imperative forms)
A collaborative project on reducing our ecological footprint, students in Mexico and New Zealand had the opportunity to connect, inspire, discover, and take action!
1. Finite Resources Reflection
Global Inquiry:
I learned that “finite” means it is limited so we can use it up and
one day it will be gone. These finite resources are also limited so
we should conserve them. Some examples of finite resources
include wood (lumber), water, coal and also oil. It is important to
conserve fossil fuels because when we transport them to another
place, it pollutes the environment and it will harm the animal’s
habitat. Some alternative energy sources are solar energy, wind
energy, nuclear energy and others. These resources don’t provide
pollution and are renewable so they are infinite resources. While
investigating the lumber industry, the most interesting thing I
learned was that it takes a long step to produce pulp layers
(paper). I learned that it might take 2~3 months to finish 1 single
step.
Local Inquiry:
During my Home Energy Audit, I discovered that we were using
lots of finite resources for 1 single house. The finite resources
such as fossil fuels, we use fossil fuels everywhere so we can use
electricity. So, I set goals to use less electronic devices and walk
if it is a near place. During our BISS Energy Audit, we discovered
many problems, such as unoccupied rooms not turning off the lights
and air conditioner or not recycling paper and no recycling bins in
some rooms. So, we set a goal to give the hand made recycling
bin to recycle paper and teach the elementary students how and
why to recycle.
Taking Action:
School Conversation Campaign
It is important to reduce, reuse and recycle paper because wood is
also a finite resources and it is one of the most precious resources
and it is the main thing that can be seen in the daily life of our
school subjects. It provides furniture and other studying tools.
First we audited our school. Then we talked about what resource
could we conserve in BISS. Finally, we decided to collect recycle
paper and sell it to people, which will take it to the recycling
center. It was difficult to tell to low-grade students because some
of them were so young that they couldn’t understand what we were
talking about. I enjoyed this action because I liked that how we
2. save the environment even if it is only a little bit. If I took a
different environmental action, I would like to conserve water
because we are running out of water but people keep using it.
There are lots of water in the earth, but only 0.03% of water is
available to drink.
Environmental Music Video
We use persuasive language techniques in our lyrics, such as
rhetorical questions and repetition.I think the most persuasive line
in the lyrics is “Don’t you wanna save the earth? Don’t you want a
greener world? ” because it make me think about what will happen
or look like in the future if we don’t conserve trees. While working
on the movie, I learned about how we can express the song by
other movements. I enjoyed making this video because the
movements and the shortcuts were kind of non-sense and it was
using green-screen so at the back, there was no background. If I
did another music video, I would like to do more shortcuts because
the shortcuts were more fun that doing a whole part.
What else?
During this finite resources unit I especially enjoyed researching
and writing magazine article because when I was researching, I
learned other interesting facts that I didn’t knew before. After
this unit, I will continue to recycle and conserve paper.
