We live on a planet with finite resources.
How much do you know about oil?
Oil comes from plants and animals that died and were buried with layers of mud and
sand over millions of years. We collects oil using huge drills that dig the ground and
special pumps to dig up the oil from deep inside the earth. We also uses special machines
to detect gases in the air that help to find oil. We also use seismographs and all kind of
machines to find places that have oil. There is a lot of oil under the Earth, especially in
Saudi Arabia. Once we all gather the oil, people send it to a refinery. The refinery cleans
and separates the oil into useful parts.

Why do we depend on the oil industry?
This is a very valuable resource because we use for all kind s of thing like
transportation fuel, ink, diesel, kerosene, tar, chemical, instance clothes, pen, plastic,
eye glasses, petroleum, fertilizer, painting and more.
Communities depend on this industry because 97% of U.S transportation fuel is oil
and 4% of world energy is oil.. The most popular fuel in the world is oil. If there is no oil
there will be no plastic water bottle, sub, electricity(most), DVD, umbrella, ship, gun,
tank, fridge, vehicle, bus, heater, airplane, shoes, missiles, bomb and a lot more.
How could this resource be managed
better?
What is the impact of this industry?
This is industry is not sustainable because oil is a finite
resource. We will eventually run out of oil.
This industry also harms the environment because the thing in
the oil make s bad things like carbon dioxide that causes the
global warming, carbon monoxide that is poisonous to
humans, sulfur dioxide that makes the rain acidic, nitrogen
oxide that makes the smog and volatile organic compounds
kills plant.
We could reduce our use of this resource by using bicycles
or walking instead of cars. Also, we can use buses instead
of car. We can also buy natural clothes, don’t use plastic
bag and fly less.
Alternatively, we could use wind energy, solar energy, bio
energy, hydrogen, nuclear energy and geothermal energy.
• The crude oil is
sweet when it has
less sulfur.
• The crude oil is
sour when it has
more sulfur.
• In America there
are nearly 200,000
miles of oil
pipelines.
• Saudi Arabia
produces 8.1
million barrels of
oil per day(1
barrel=158.99L).
