Natural Forces Reflection
Global Inquiry:
I learned that “finite” means that something that can be used up.
Some examples of finite resources include oil, gas and coal. It is
important to conserve fossil fuels because it will run out, make pollution
to air and sea and destroy the wild animals’ habitat. Some alternative
energy sources are wind energy, solar energy and water energy. While
investigating the coal industry, the most interesting thing I learned was
that coal started to became black rock from the dead plants at the
same time as the dinosaurs.
Local Inquiry:
During my Home Energy Audit, I discovered that we don’t close the
lights when nobody’s in the room and it will waste electricity and it is
made from coal. So, I set goals to close the lights when nobody’s in the
room. During our BISS Energy Audit, we discovered many problems, such
as not closing the lights when there’s no people in the room and not
closing the air conditioner and not having a recycling system. So, we set
a goal to make recycling bins for each class and collect the recycling
papers from the whole elementary school.
Taking Action:
School Conversation Campaign
It is important to reduce, reuse and recycle paper because paper is also
a finite resource so we have to reduce, reuse and recycle paper so that
will save the trees. First we listed all the grades that don’t have
recycling bin. Then we made all the recycling bin and give the grades we
also made a speech to let them use it right. Finally, they put recycling
paper and collected it. It was difficult to let the Pre-k understand. I
enjoyed this action because it can help the environment. If I took a
different environmental action, I would like to put solar penals on the
school roof.
Environmental Music Video
We use persuasive language techniques in our lyrics, such as
I think the most persuasive line in the lyrics is recycling” because it is
related to our unit. While working on the movie, I learned about 5
different shots. I enjoyed making this video because it can let people
know to recycle. If I did another music video, I would do about coal
because it is important and cool.
What else?
During this finite resource unit I especially enjoyed making the filter.
After this unit, I will continue to investigate finite resources.
