• What is your career goal?
• Are you achieving good grades?
• Do you have an (international) network?
• Have you researched language and visa requirements in
the country where you would like to work?
• Do you have international experience?
Study abroad
• A year or term abroad gives you the opportunity to study at an
international university or work in another country. You'll experience
another culture, improve your language abilities and gain career skills.
• We have one of the best study abroad programmes in the UK with
over 140 universities worldwide for you to choose from. This includes high-
ranking universities in the United States and an extensive range of study
opportunities in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
• A year or term abroad prepares you for a variety of jobs with former
Sussex study abroad students going into careers in translation,
humanitarian work and teaching.
International placements
• The University welcomes students working internationally for their
placement year.
• Students who wish to work outside the UK need to be proactive in their job
search, and seek advice from CEC at the earliest opportunity.
• It is the student and employer’s responsibility to ensure that student is in
possession of the correct working visa to cover their placement.
• Students will also need to ensure that they have travel insurance that
covers them for the duration of their trip
Work experience and internship

• BUNAC - Work abroad and internship programmes for anyone aged 18-
35. Includes Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, China, South
Africa and more
• CCUSA - Summer camps, work experience and internships in the USA,
plus options in Canada, Russia, Africa, Latin America and Asia
• IST Plus - Summer programmes and professional internships in the USA,
plus working holidays in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore and
teaching in China or Thailand
• Global Choices - Internship, teaching abroad, working holiday,
volunteering and au pair opportunities. Countries covered include USA,
Spain, New Zealand, Canada, Brazil, China, Australia and Argentina
