Justin Richardson: Career Development for International Students. Slides from the University of Liverpool Learning and Teaching Conference 2009. This session will look at what the careers and employability service has achieved in the past year in meeting the needs of growing numbers of international students, what we have learned and our plans for the future. The session will look at the ways in which the service can support international students and the issues faced by them. The session will also look at ways in which other departments can work together effectively with careers to help international student during and after their study. The session will also reflect on the recent successful PMI funded Mentoring Project for International Students which was undertaken in the last year.

Behind the United States (82), United Kingdom (38), Russia (20) and France (16), Australia has a total of 15 offshore locations operated by 11 institutions. Yet international branch campuses are one of the riskiest ventures an institution can undertake. According to the Cross-Border Education Research Team (C-BERT), some 31 have failed – some with spectacular results. They are often established in unfamiliar environments, reap little financial reward and rarely result in the desired pipeline of students to the home institution. What are the secrets to the long-term success of a branch campus? To what extent do both institutions need to achieve alignment and harmonisation of strategy, academic governance and management, and quality goals? How do they balance the compliance requirements for equivalence with home programs with the increasing need for local adaptation to market demand, student ability and host country regulators? The repercussion is that the UK is losing its competitive edge for new international students according to a recent British Council report. What can be done to reverse this trend? Several international students will need to take on a work placement as they aspire to secure work in a global economy. In order to achieve this effectively and sustainably, there is a need to explore the placement experience of international students in attempt to come up with a support framework. Several international students will need to take on a work placement as they aspire to secure work in a global economy. In order to achieve this effectively and sustainably, there is a need to explore the placement experience of international students in attempt to come up with a support framework. This is the rationale underpinning a case study which captured the views of forty-one respondents from twenty different national backgrounds.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the

- 16. PMI Mentoring Scheme Project involved University of Liverpool, Liverpool Hope and Edge Hill. Led by Monira Ahmed. Funded by PMI2 in partnership with NASES Almost 60 students involved who were matched with a mentor. Mentors from variety of backgrounds including local businesses and staff from the Universities. Aimed at helping students develop career related skills and to help them find part-time work. Feedback was very positive from mentees and mentors.
