20. Do I need to speak mandarin to teach in
China
No, you do not need to.
In the schools, you will have a Chinese assistant who will help you to
communicate with students.
In daily life, most of the younger generation of the Chinese population can speak
English. They may not be able to speak prefect English, but it is enough for basic
communication. The public transport will have English subtitles in major cities.
You also can easily find Chinese people to teach you mandarin for free if you
teach them English as a language exchange.
There are lots of westerners living in China so it is easy to make friends and join
communities.
