Manik, Ratan

Seed rate: 10-15 gm/3 sqm2 (Ideal seedbed)
Seed purification: Vitavex-200 2.5gm/1 kg seed
Seedling raising:
30-35 days old seedling is useful for
transplanting.
4. Seedbed
• Cowdung-5kg, vermicompost 3kg. Draw line
maintaining distance of 4cm and deep of 3-
4cm. Mix 9 parts ash with 1 part seed. Cover
seed with sand. Provide light irrigation. After
3-5 days seeds will germinate. Protect
seedbed from scorching sunlight (morning 10
to 4pm) and rain; use bamboo chatai.
6. Transplanting:
• Watering one hour before in seedbed for easy
uprooting of seedlings.
• Protect seedling from sunlight with banana plant
pseudo stem bark box.
• Make round deep lines around seedlings to
protect from cutworm.
• Gap filling should be done within 7-10 days.
• Seedbed
• Polybag
• Tray etc
8. Ridge transplanting:
• select seedling with 4-6 leaves
• Line to line: 45-60cm
• Plant to plant: 45 cm
• Do the earthing up, provide soil to the line
making irrigation drains.
9. • Line planting:
• Bed Size: Length x Width-as long as we
have x 100cm
• Line to line: 75cm
• Plant to plant: 50cm
• Depth: 20cm
12. Fertigation:
• Cowdung/Vermi
• Urea-300kg (3 Installments) at 10, 25 and 40
days of transplanting
• TSP- basal- 250kg
• MP-Basal-100kg, 2 top dressings at 25 and 40
days
• Gypsum- Basal-80kg
14. Special care-
• Framing
• Pruning:
• Generally tomato plants produce one branch
from one node. Cut those at the height of 1cm.
Keep only 4-5 fruit bunches in one plant. Keep
only 4-6 healthy and good flowers; discard weak
and deformed flowers.
• Use sharp sanitized knife for cutting. Rinse knife
in boil water for 3-5 minutes. GAP should be
followed.
30. • How do you prune a plant?
• Steps
• Prune any dead leaves, limbs and flowers to begin. ...
• Make your cuts with pruning shears or hand shears. ...
• Cut branches with pruning shears where they join
stems when possible. ...
• Clip your cuts flush with the limbs. ...
• Take off small limbs where new leaves or limbs are
forming when you cannot take off the entire branch.
31. • How do you top tomato plants?
• Place a tomato cage over the tomato at planting,
or drive a 6-foot stake into the ground near the
main stem. ...
• Remove suckers that form in the joint where a
lateral stem meets the main stem. ...
• Top the tomato plant when it grows to the top of
its cage or stake. ...
• Cut back the tops weekly as the plant puts on
new growth.
32. • How do you take care of tomato plants?
• Care
• Water generously for the first few days.
• Water well throughout the growing season,
about 2 inches per week during the summer. ...
• Mulch five weeks after transplanting to retain
moisture.
• To help tomatoes through periods of drought,
find some flat rocks and place one next to each
plant.
33. • How do you transplant a tomato plant?
• Transplanting
• Dig a hole in the middle of your tomato bed
that is at least a few inches deeper than the
depth of the pot the seedlings are in. ...
• Remove each seedling from its container and
loosen the roots very gently.
• Plant the seedlings deep with only the
topmost leaves aboveground.
34. • How do you transplant seedlings?
• Transplant seedlings on a calm, cloudy day, if
possible. Late afternoon is a good time
because plants can recover from the shock
of transplanting without sitting in the midday
heat and sun. Your garden soil should be
moist, but not soggy. If the weather has been
dry, water the planting area the day before
you plant.
35. • What is the importance of seedling and fruit
thinning?
• Cover lightly with soil and water well.
• As soon as the first seedlings pop up, put the
tray under bright fluorescent lights for 15
hours per day. Let seedlings grow until they
have two sets of "true" leaves.
• Use a scissors to snip out any weak or
crowded seedlings and fruits.
36. • How do I get my tomatoes to ripen?
• Wash tomatoes and allow to dry completely
before storing. For just a few tomatoes, place
them in a paper bag with a banana and store
at room temperature out of direct sunlight.
Avoid high humidity, which can lead to decay
or fruit fly issues. Larger quantities can be
placed in a cardboard box instead of a bag.
37. • How long does it take for a tomato to grow from
a flower?
• How Long After You Get Flowers on Tomato
Plants Until the Tomatoes Grow? The days to
maturity for tomato varieties ranges from 50 to
90 days. The excitement of seeing those first
blooms on your tomato plants may start your
mouth watering for fresh tomatoes off the vine,
but don't start making plans quite yet.
