The Elements Of Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to the
underside of its wings which resemble the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a
supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable
differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes
show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is a similar misunderstanding when examining the
short story by Ambrose Bierce. When one looks close the story becomes clear. After considering both
the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The
Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism ... Show more content on

He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically did what he
thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her hair.
Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted, but was soon woken with a startling noise and
shaking of a panther coming into his home and taking his wife. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face the challenges of a typical fearful day out in the
frontier. Although some people, on the other hand, see the story as Realism. Romanticism comes
closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because there is something
supernatural in life humans can t explain. In the short story Murlock lived a life with events that aren t
normally common with an everyday man living in the woods. One day when he was sitting alone
mourning the death of his wife there came a surprising creature who entered his home through the
window. The flash that which lit up the room with a vivid illumination, he saw an enormous panther
dragging the dead woman toward the window, its teeth fixed in her throat! Life in the frontier back
woods wouldn t have brought a big black panther into his house through the window. When the
panther climbed through the window it went after Murlock s dead wife lying on the table, it is
unrealistic that it would drag the dead wife through the window instead of staying there, eating his
prey,

Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace
When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force
that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be
humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as
experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap
(an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from
the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer
importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more

While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often
disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord
and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity.
Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the
Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the
Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that
grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be
exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or
acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as
alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike
the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification),
Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the
Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt

INTRODUCTION OF LAN
LAN known as a local area network is a computer network that connected computer within a small
area such as a school, collages, a hospitals and an office building using network media. In contrast to
wide area network (WAN) this covers the huge area. In LAN, there is a main computer called server
and distance computers called clients. With the help of LAN users can access internet, can exchange
file with connected users, and also can communication between users via electronic mails and others
applications.
MANAGEMENT OF ACCESS TO A LAN
The resources on a local area computer network needs to be managed for their efficient use and
maintenance. They include local computers, printers, telephones, routers/internet access etc. To
manage this resource a system administrator/Network administrator can use multiple management
software like active directory authentications, User and group policies, physically restricted access to
devices etc.
RESOURCES WHOES ACCESS CAN BE MANAGED
The three resources that can be managed are

Terrorism Vs Rebellion
The recitation challenged me to think about things I had never thought of before. What is the
difference between terrorism and rebellion? Can one person be a terrorist without the support of a
group? Is terrorism defined by motive or result?
As my group explored these questions and many more my beliefs were challenged. The group almost
never agreed unanimously. I found myself frequently on the side of the minority. This was highlighted
early on in the discussion when I disagreed with most of my group about scenario 1.
I initially felt the actions of the unnamed man later labeled as Samuel Adams were the actions of a
terrorist. Samuel Adams was not trying to overthrow his government, so he was not a rebel. Adams
wanted to make a point to his government. He did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exercise helped me lay aside some of my predispositions. When our group came to scenario 5 I
challenged a few of my fellow group members thoughts as well.
When I read scenario 5, it sounded more like civil war than terrorism. When we took an initial vote,
however, all but two of us labeled Nelson Mandela s actions as terrorism. As we talked, I spoke about
civil war, the right of a people to overthrow oppressive government, and the reasons for established
political parties to take up arms against the majority party. At the end of the discussion, enough of the
votes had swung our way for the group to label scenario 5, Not Terrorism.
While the recitation session was thought provoking, for me it brought up more questions than it
answered. I still am not sure whether scenarios 8 and 9 would be considered hate crime, terrorism, or
both. I do not know if you can consider a lone wolf a terrorist if they commit suicide on their only
attack. I wonder if a person can be called a terrorist if they do not intend to spread terror. All these are
ideas I look forward to diving into during the next eight

Optimism And Pessimism In The Great Gatsby
I believe that the three texts that I have studied contained moments of optimism and pessimism which
in turn have shaped my opinion of the general vision and viewpoint. This alludes to the feelings and
emotions portrayed through the omniscient camera in The King s Speech , the morally inclined
narrator Nick Caraway in The Great Gatsby and the protagonist in the novel Foster . I was very
intrigued to find out more about these societies and the vision the author/director hoped to convey.
The Great Gatsby opens in the boom years in the summer of 1922, commonly known as the Jazz Age .
The opening is conveyed as a mix of optimism and pessimism. At first we are introduced to Nick
Caraway,

In T.K.S, Bertie faced a barbaric upbringing which he solemnly shared with Logue. This is evident
when he revealed how cruel his nanny was, tunelessly singing She pinch me so I d cry, and be sent
away at once, then she wouldn t feed me, far far away. (speaks) Took three years for my parents to
notice. As you can imagine, it caused some stomach problems. This left me feeling much more
sympathetic towards Bertie and further implemented my pessimistic opinion of the portrayal of
children in the past. This is also seen in T.G.G as Pammy, Daisy s daughter is only seen once during
the entire 1920 s novel and we realise that she, like Bertie, had nannies who took care off her rather
than her parents. A sense of negativity is also conveyed towards children here as Gatsby ,when first
introduced to Pammy, was described as looking at the child with surprise. I don t think he had ever
believed in its existence. she is described as an it and Gatsby then realises that he can t repeat the past
with Daisy and that his obsessive longing for her was a waste of time. I believe that this pessimistic
feeling was a factor in his volatility towards Tom in the Plaza. Similarly in Foster , Mildred like a
predator, pounced on the innocent protagonist and questioned her about the Kinsella s personal affairs
such as where does the old dog sleep, Is she allowed to spend.... . Mildred then inconsiderately
informed the little girl of the Kinsella s boy s passing, stating sure didn t he follow that auld hound of
theirs into the slurry tank and drown...... The soft hearted fool. in a callous tone. Personally I feel that

Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an
English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became
famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had
seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no
connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the
God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns,
timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five
beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the
Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific,
insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast
tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the
movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an
end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms,
the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military
essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow
slightly changed. Gustav creates

Should We Be Spending The Money On Organic Produce Over...
2. This article is discussing the issue of whether or not we should be spending the money on organic
produce over non organic produce. They are clearly portraying that organic food should be purchased
and consumed over non organic food. They convey the message that non organic food is relatively a
newer concept than organic produce as it has only come into place since 1950s, where before this all
food was originally organic grown. Non organic farmers have at their disposal an arsenal of over 320
pesticides and they use them routinely. Evidence links some of these pesticides with developmental
damage to mammals that could lead to cancers, developmental problems and birth defects. They re
claims that these pesticides are all below safe limits, but it is all very suspicious, whereas organic
produce is hardly ever found with any traces of harmful pesticides or food additive as they are only
available to very limited numbers. Same goes with their animals, they are only treated with antibiotics
when they show clinical signs of illness. Although organic food costs more this article is in the
opinion the non organic farming is cracking at the seams, that is unable of delivering safe, healthy
food, treating animals humanely, or taking care of the environment properly. Concluding that Organics
is the only organised, coherent, global alternative to this failed industrial food experiment.

Comparing The Stage And War Is Never Over
The poems The Stage, written by Avenged Sevenfold, and War Is Never Over, written by Cecil L.
Harrison, both suggest that life is a war disguised by a curtain of innocence. Both describe their
respective topics life and war in a negative light suggesting that neither is what it seems to be.
The way life is described as a performance in The Stage challenged me to consider what life might
look like to an audience. The poem is structured with the different stages of life in each stanza. This
shows the development of humankind, both individually and as a species. At the beginning of the
poem, the poet starts us off with So I arrived, naked and cold, suggesting both a newborn baby, and
the beginning of humanity. The poet says that the innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The poet uses the text to expose war as an eternal hell stating that War is never over in the many
soldiers and loved ones eyes. War Is Never Over reveals that freedom is fought for and that No
freedom is not free! The poem focuses on the after effects of war, for example, the memories of the
battles and the nightmares that ensue. For me, the poet uncovers that although tough times such as war
are resolved in the end, there are still many holes left by the aftereffects of that particular event. It is
not only the soldiers that suffer after the war, but also families and loved ones. Those left home to wait
know this. For many are still waiting. It was their farewell kiss. This led me to believe that the many
soldiers that left for war have most likely died or are missing in action leaving their families awaiting
their impossible return. At one stage, the poet goes as far as calling the soldiers heroes; however,
reveals to us that although they have come back home, in their minds they hold memories known to
them alone. This means that the soldiers have not fully recovered from the war and have to suffer from
the terrifying memories of their experiences during the war. I believe that Cecil L. Harrison wrote this
poem to warn the many people who overlook these after effects of war when joining due to the glory
that they assume they are going to receive when they come home. The reality is, many soldiers that go
off to war never come back. War Is Never Over reminds us of the sacrifices that many soldiers have
made to make sure that future generations would never have to share the memories that are still fresh
in their minds. The poem reminds us that War is never over. Though we win the victory, still in our
minds the battles. No freedom is not free! Ultimately, this led me to believe that the poem is meant as
a momento and warning for future

Emily Dickinson s Success Is Counted Sweetest

Sweetest features the speaker, presumably the author, Emily Dickinson, as they discuss experiencing
failures and successes. In order to truly comprehend success and defeat, Dickinson uses encounters of
the Union Army and Confederate Army who fought in the American Civil War. Dickinson includes
metaphors within the poem, with nectar representing something precious and purple Host representing
the Union Army of the North. With an ABCB rhyme scheme, the rhythm is interrupted during the
death of a soldier in order to emphasize the moment in which success is most needed by an individual.
The soldier fought vigorously for their belief and for that

The Importance Of User Experience
User experience was something I knew of before but never fully understood. Since it s such a large
field where things are constantly changing and evolving, it can be difficult to keep up with the current
events as a new explorer. Fortunately, there are many resources out there that help people do just that.
Between the three sites I explored in greater depth, uxdesign.cc had the most content centred interface
and I found myself getting distracted reading up about other topics that had caught my attention.
However, the graphics were uncomfortably large on my laptop and led me to wonder if it was instead
a mobile site, which I confirmed by accessing it on my phone. From there, I found an article

This method has been dubbed confirm shaming , when the text in the options displayed guilt trip the
user into choosing what the developer wants them to choose, leveraging guilt rather than empathy and
working in opposition to user centred design. I have personally experienced such scripts and declined
the offers out of spite because I felt irritated, leaving me with a negative impression of the site. Based
on these interactions, I have developed strong feelings against copy like that, and I was pleased to find
that this article said as much for users response to it. Such arrogance in design can be detrimental to
the user experience. Jason Fox (2017) describes narcissism in writing as times when preference is
given to a strategy, technique, or style that aligns with personal preference rather than what actually
works with a given audience (para. 9). When the designer is manipulating the user, it becomes
designer centred design, which is useless in all senses because digital designers are designing for users
and their needs, not themselves. However, there is a positive side to copy with attitude. Innovating on
states of error where a query returns no data helps create a memorable and lasting first impression of a
user s experience with a site (Fox, 2017,

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On College Students
As kids get into high school, most parents hope that their kids will join some kind of club or team. A
question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they
even be involved at all? Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising
depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans
participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One
great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college
applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly
notice a lack of notable activities on your college application (Extracurricular Activity). When
admissions offices for colleges are looking at students applications for their school, the first thing they
look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next
criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two
people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions office will look at the
extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. The student that has done more
outside of the classroom will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing against.

The Long Run Consequences Of Slow Economic Recovery After...
Abstract This research examined and listed some of the evidence demonstrating the long run
consequences of slow economic recovery after periods of recessions in the U.S. economy on wage
earners of a four person family. Economy shifts were examined and its effect on the four member
family, two adult wage earners, and two children was analyzed. This trend and shift of and within the
economy contributed to the overall wholeness and well being of the family. As a rising economy
produced family stability and productive home environments, a declining economy produced
insecurity and a negative home environment. Whether negative or positive, the economy attributed to
various differences within the context of a stable, healthy family structure. Keywords: economy,
family, healthy, home, negative, positive, productive, recovery shift, stability. Effects of a Slow U.S.
Economic Recovery on Wage Earners of a Four Person Family Typically, households experiences
differences in its wholesomeness and vitality as society experiences changes in our nation s overall
economy. Therefore, it is extremely important for the heads of the family to have a plan in place at all
times so that the family will experience the least amount of overall change as the state of the economy
fluctuates. The state of the U.S. economy, undoubtedly, shapes the family infrastructure. This
economic state creates either a balance or unbalance with the family. Whenever both adults are active

Arguments Against Genetic Engineering Babies
Fifty years ago two men James Watson, and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA, the
sequence that makes up everything in life from humans to eagles. DNA controls everything from hair
color, athleticism, cancer, and intelligence through genes. From this discovery, a new field of science
formed called genetic engineering, where they studied the DNA makeup of living things. Eventually
acquiring the ability to modify the genes genetic engineers could modify genes to receive the desired
outcome according to their own design. Starting small using bacteria and gradually getting larger they
began to transfer genes successfully from species to species, these ideas eventually made their way
toward human evolution. Everyone wants their children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Should we ban genetically engineered babies? Sara Fetch raises to the readers attention
issues that are pending. For example, how can scientist text genetic engineering in an ethical manner?
There are bound to be failures. What if these failures lead to abnormalities? We cannot just discard of
the infant like we do other plants and animals. What will happen to these individuals (Fetch)?
Similarly, Wolfson writes regarding genetic engineering testing and failure Gone also is compassion.
Liberal societies have done better than most in treating the mentally and physically disabled as full
members of the human community. Yet eugenics [(genetic engineering)] unmistakable message to the
disabled is this: Better had you never been born. Better had you never burdened society with your
deformities. The disabled are placed below society as if they do not belong with the others. Genetic
engineering is to make the recipient happier through upgraded genes, and there are many examples of
people with Downs syndrome who are extremely happy, but also the opposite; there are smart people
who are not happy (Wolfson). So who is to decide what will make a person happy, or better? Some say

Cross Cultural Issues with Japan
Having a brother in law who married a Japanese girl, Japan seemed a fitting choice for this
assignment. The Japanese culture is a world apart from the United States literally and figuratively.
Barriers to Operating In Japan
The first barrier that comes to mind is Language. Either the Company employs someone who is well
versed in Japanese and from that Country or it forces the Japanese to speak English. As English is a
more common language in the business world, it would seem as if that forces the Japanese to speak
English.

When said manager is dealing with business people in Japan they must also remember to show proper
respect for those older than them, even if they are only slightly older. It would not be a good idea to
send a young manager to deal with issues. It would also be a better idea to send a man than a woman
as the Japanese still don t have the view of women in the workplace that we do. While the young
manager may have a wealth of business experience, even more than the older person, that doesn t
matter in Japan, the younger would not be respected or listened to in the workplace.
The Japanese also believe that their culture is superior to others, called ethnocentrism. They believe
they are much stronger than their surrounding Asian countries. They see things as fair or not fair only
in terms of how it is fair to Japan and would not be concerned about whether it is fair to Company A s
home Country, the U.S. This could be something that Company A could have with trade issues. The
Japanese will negotiate only on what is good for their Country, not the greater good of mankind.
Americans telling the Japanese to act more like them would not go over well. In the past, America has
tended to bash the Japanese so Company A will need to be almost apologetic from the start and cater

The First Jewish Roman War
As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile
Christians, post the First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was
writing greatly affected what he was communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the
90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a
mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason , the force by which the
universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the logos
with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish
writings personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29
30; 35 36). One can see how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John
wanted to convey to his audience. The Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as
the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while
Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament worldview as God in
action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of logos
in this way,
By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and
thus declares that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). Jewish

The Battle Of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most costly battles of the Pacific theatre of
WWII. The fighting was fought in February and March, 1945. About 6,800 U. S.
Marines and other military personnel lost their lives in seizing the island from the Japanese. The
Japanese losses were estimated at more than 21,000. The American victory at Iwo Jima provided
American air units with the first base inside Japanese territory. This allowed American

them to dig in or build foxholes to take cover from enemy fire. The only good thing that came out the
ash was that it absorbed some fragments from Japanese artillery. The Japanese heavy artillery in
Suribachi was reinforced with steel doors and would only open them to fire, and then would closed
them immediately to prevent receiving damage from the Marines and naval gunners. This made it a
challenge for American units to destroy the heavily fortified Japanese artillery position. To make
things harder for the Marines, the bunkers were connected to tunnel systems so that the Japanese
bunkers that got cleared with flamethrowers and grenades were re occupied by the Japanese troops
moving through the tunnels. This tactic used by the Japanese caused many casualties to the Marines,
as they walked past the bunkers they thought were cleared. Didn t expect to take fire from the enemy.
The Marines would cautiously and slowly advance while taking heavy machine gun and artillery fire.
With the arrival and help of armored tanks, and heavy naval artillery and aerial bombing on Mount

experience, the Marines expected the same Banzai Charge in the middle of the night. This had been a
standard attack plan for the Japanese, but were not ordered

longer. For example, at the military and weather station Alert located at 82°30′05″N and 62°20′20″W,
on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island, Canada (about 450 nautical miles or 830 km from the North
Pole), the sun begins to peek above the horizon for minutes per day at the end of February and each
day it climbs higher and stays up longer; by 21 March, the sun is up for over 12 hours. On 6 April the
sun rises at 0522 UTC and remains above the horizon until it sets below the horizon again on 6
September at 0335 UTC. By October 13 the sun is above the horizon for only 1 hour 30 minutes and
on October 14 it does not rise above the horizon at all and remains below the horizon until it rises
again on 27 February.[17] First light comes in late January because the sky has twilight, being a glow
on the horizon, for increasing hours each day, for more than a month before the sun first appears with
its disc above the horizon. From mid November to mid January, there is no twilight. In the weeks
surrounding 21 June, in the northern polar region, the sun is at its highest elevation, appearing to circle
the sky there without going below the horizon. Eventually, it does go below the horizon,

Research Beyond The Classroom By Joel Chirinos
Research Beyond the Classroom by Joel Chirinos. The first session that I attended was Research
Beyond the Classroom by Joel Chirinos. He initially explain that research is redoing search to find
what we want to know. His advice was to always focusing in our topic to find the most useful
information. Research is used to support our writings, opinions, etc. From this talk, he made us value
the library as a very important medium to gain useful and credible information that could help us in
our classes. Mr.Chirinos also mentioned how research does not end in the classroom. For example,
when we are planning to go to a trip, we start researching to look for prices in different websites and
pamphlets. Another example could be when we want to buy

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Grendel
The Monstrous Nature
It is much easier to bury a problem, than to solve it L.Witgenshtein, Philosophical researches
To every story there are two sides. The idea may be the same, but the tone that the story is told in
shapes our understanding of the events. This idea is can not be more evident than through the vast
difference between the Anglo Saxon poem Beowulf and John Gardner s novel Grendel . Both are
based on the very same idea of an epic hero slaying a monster. However, the two different points of
view telling the story create vastly different perspectives.
A powerful demon that is how the narrator refers to Grendel even before mentioning his real name.
Grendel is a threatening presence in this poem. In Beowulf , Grendel ... Show more content on

As he is described to us, he is portrayed as a descendent of Cain. The association that the monster
posesses with the biblical Cain, the killer of his own brother, automatically shows Grendel as an evil
creature being. Grendel s evil nature is being constantly referred to many times throughout the poem,
in order to prove his cruel goals. The reader learns that times were peasant in Herot until the fiend out
of hell began to work his evil . The first time Grendel attacks the meadhall, he grabs thirty men and
slaughters them in his cave. And the more he came the more he took, the more he took the more he
murdered. Furthermore, not only he is a deadly enemy to Hrothgar and Herot, but to all the living
Geats.. Grendel seems to receive pleasure from attacking Herot and killing the warriors inside. He is a
bane to all those living under the rule of Hrothgar. They hate him. He is said to be the enemy of
mankind . The only person who could possibly defeat such a

The Irish Revival Poem
Still after the official Irish Independence in 1922, the Irish people needed to find an identity free of the
English influence but also of the Catholic morality and the values celebrated by the Revival, an
identity which could be in step with the times and truly represent them. It was a particularly difficult
task for intellectuals and writers. They found themselves almost shut up by Irish censorship and
rejected by the bigotry that mostly characterized the middle class society for decades after the
Independence. Michael O Donovan in a speech about censorship in 1962 said that writers had to face
the bookless homes, the horrible libraries each with its own little group of censors, snuffing out sex
that the Censorship Board had failed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another poem, Revival, emerges a reflection about the Irish language. It seems like people in the
1960s were still trying to learn it, as it was in the 1920s, but the results do not give the impression of
being good. In the poem, some people who are grouped together to listen to him, an Irish poet, do not
know Irish and he does not have translations for his poems, almost symbolizing that he cannot make
for them the great effort of learning a language as difficult from Irish, How the Irish Language
Revived Me! / ( after nearly shaggin killing me, [...] (235). Then, we can observe that in Davitt s
poetry as in O Brien s fiction there is the contrast between rural and urban experience, nonetheless the
attitudes towards this theme are different. If the two girls in The Country Girls move to Dublin in
order to have a new life, to free themselves from the constraints of their life in the countryside, in
Davitt s poem Limerick it is evident how, despite the fact that the poet can adapt to the life in the city,
there is a diffidence and uncomfortableness. The tone that he used to depict urban people seems to be
sarcastic I should learn to accept

There Is No Me Without You Tone
A person s capability is often limitless when his or her heart is drawn towards a certain matter. In her
memoir, There is No Me Without You, novelist and journalist, Melissa Fay Greene gives a candid
insight on one woman s odyssey to rescue Africa s children. Greene successfully creates a sympathetic
tone in order to stress the urgencies of the conditions for children in Africa living with AIDs and the
difficult lives that they face through the usage of rhetorical questions and pathos. Similarly, irony is
used to emphasize the ingratitude of the children despite Haregewoin s best efforts take care of them.
Throughout her memoir, Greene educates readers on a life beyond their narrow perspectives and walk
them through a world of hurt and pain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the children grow, they become more demanding and expectant of Haregewoin, who had become
the maternal figure in their life and lose the grateful heart they once had. Despite everything
Haregewoin has done for these children, [t]hey say, Haregewoin does not help us. (332). It is ironic
that the children express so much ungratefulness after all the sacrifices and efforts that Haregewoin
has made to ensure that the African orphans have a better life. The insistence of Haregewoin s children
conveys a dramatic change in tone as the story transitions from an aspect of positivity and hope in
Haregewoin s journey to save the orphaned children to Harwegewoin s desperate attempt to win back
the hearts of the African children. Greene reveals an unlikely outcome of the years of sacrifice made
by Haregewoin to protect and love the ungrateful children through the abruptly ungrateful attitudes of
the orphans towards the only mother they have ever known.
Throughout Melissa Fay Greene s memoir, There is No Me Without You, feelings of sympathy are
invoked which in effect, causes readers to appreciate what they have, and are educated on a world
beyond their capacity. Rhetorical questions and pathos is used to stir sympathy within readers for the
African orphans with AIDs while irony is used to contradict the efforts and sacrifices of Haregewoin
for the children. Greene successfully creates a tone of sympathy and compels readers during her
memoir of a journey to save the orphans of

The Normal Distribution Is A Continuous, Unimodal And...
The normal distribution is a continuous, unimodal and symmetric distribution. For a typical normal
distribution, a mesokurtic (which means to have a moderate peak and tails for a graph), definition is
one that has a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. While this is the case, there might be other
normal distributions with means that are not 0 and a standard deviation that is not 1, for these cases,
we use their means and standard deviation. For example, if a normal distribution had a mean of 2 and
a standard deviation of 3, then in order to clarify that it is indeed a normal distribution, we write N(
2,3). Among the normal distributions, we have a standard normal, exponential, uniform and beta.
These are varieties of distributions we can get within a normal distribution based on factors like
number of cases for example and where the cases were drawn from. At times when it gets complicated
to distinguish between the standard deviation of a variable and that of a sampling distribution, there is
a solution. The standard deviation for a sampling distribution is called a standard error and this
literally means that if a sampling distribution is normal, then 68% of its samples will lie within one
standard error of the mean and 98% within 1.98 standard error of the mean. The normal distribution is
useful not just due a random variable following a normal distribution, but also because the Central
Limit Theorem, which is a theorem that shows the sampling distribution of the mean

Example Of Misogyny In Antigone
In Sophocles s Antigone, we can see that the deeply misogynistic society of ancient Greece has
manifested itself into Creon, a despotic ruler, despising dissidents, traitors, and especially women. His
hatred of women manifested into several examples of misogyny throughout the play: He assumed that
the criminal who buried Polyneices was a man, he looks down on Antigone s defiance as improper
defiance of a mans order by a woman, and he virtually disowns his son Haemon for disagreeing with
him and listening to a woman. In classical Greece, women were widely hated. Misogyny was
engraved into the vary culture of ancient Greece, in their religion, the Greek Pantheon, Pandora, one
of the first women, unleashed all of the world s problems from the box containing them. Among the
many stories in the vast literature of classical Greece, apparently humanity lived in relative peace and
happiness until the creation of women, which, via Pandora s treachery and women s other
shenanigans, we devolved to our current state. This trend of putting women down on a societal level is
known as patriarchy and was incredibly common in Classical societies as compared to now, It is a
natural progression akin to bureaucracy that becomes more common as a state ages, the small
imbalance of men s physical dominance snowballs into the state of Patriarchy we can see in Sophocles
s Antigone. We can see this kind of patriarchy in other societies, such as: China, India, and Rome. This
society molded Creon into

Similarities Between Montag And John In Fahrenheit 451
We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in awhile. How long is it since you
were really bothered? About something important, about something real? (Fahrenheit 451). When Ray
Bradbury wrote this he wanted to get the message across that everyone needs to live a life of passion,
and if you are never really bothered by anything, what kind of life are you living?, are you okay with
that? In the book Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury Guy Montag wants to seek knowledge within the
books, that are forbidden in their society. In the story By the Waters of Babylon , by Stephen Vincent
Benet John wants to go on a journey to enlightenment and bring back knowledge to his society. The
similarities between John and Montag are undeniable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montag is hiding his true feelings for books. Behind each of these books, there s a man that s what
interests me (51). Montag is holding a book in his hand when he says this, and when he says this he is

keeping the secret that he wants to become knowledgeable. On John s journey he has found
knowledge within books and wants to share with his people. His father does not believe the society
can handle this information quite yet. Benet writes If you eat too much truth at once you may die of
the truth (184). John wants to inform his people of his new information but he needs to slowly feed the
information to them. By not sharing this important information he is keeping secrets from his society.
In this careful investigation it is obvious that John and Montag both are keeping secrets for the

Lab 1 Nitration Of Naphthalene
Nitration of Naphthalene
Wed 2/25/2015
Lab report # 1
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to nitrate naphthalene with nitronium ion, which is formed at low
concentration from a reaction of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. The percent yield from the experiment
was 54.4% of the product, and the melting point of the possible results were 59 °C for 1
nitronaphthalene, and 78°C for 2 nitronaphthalene.
Introduction:
Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphthalene can be nitrated by the same methods as
benzene derivatives, including the well known mixed acid method that utilizes a mixture of nitric acid
and sulfuric acid. The electrophile is the nitronium ion, NO2+, which is formed at low concentration
by a reaction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solid was then boiled with 10ml of fresh water for 10minutes. The mixture was cooled in ice and
the product was collected by vacuum filtration. 0.1 of the crude product was then recrystallized for
5minutes with 5ml of hexane under reflux. The hot solution was filtered using a preheated filtering
paper. Crystallization occurred, and then the product was collect by vacuum filtration. The product
was dried and the melting and mass were measured of the product, nitro naphthalene.

Racial Disparities Of Mass Incarceration
Racial disparities in mass incarceration
Introduction
Mass Incarceration in the United States has been a large topic of choice because rapid growth in the
prison and jail populations, the long sentences the inmates face, and the inability for some inmates to
incorporate themselves back into society. Since the 1970 s the U.S. prison population quadrupled from
158 to 635 people per 100,000, causing the U.S. to gain the title of country with the highest
incarceration rate. (Massoglia, Firebaugh, Warner, 2013, p. 142; Muller, 2012) As the growth of the
U.S prison and jail population rapidly increased, so did the growth of the three major contributors to
that population African Americans, Hispanics, and whites with African American and ... Show more

Muller s study found that though the number of African American incarceration increased after the
1970 s, one of the causes of the rise that contributed to roughly thirty percent of the African American
incarceration came about long before during the initial migration of many African Americans to the
North between 1880 and 1950. The migration was related to the rise in African American incarceration
in that the African Americans who migrated from the South were migrating from a comparatively low
nonwhite incarceration rate to the comparatively high nonwhite incarceration rate that was in the
North. Though the migration had a direct effect on the increase of incarcerations of the African
American population, it did not cause a rise in the number of white incarcerations, thus causing a rise
in racial disparity in prisons and jails before mass incarceration was established.
An additional study that Muller conducted was related to the number of foreign whites being
incarcerated or joined as a part of a state s police force and their relationship with the African
Americans incarceration rate. Mullers findings suggest that as African American migrants started
appearing in the

Accountability And Accountability
The word accountability is toss around so much latterly it is hard to ignore it. What exactly is
accountability? Everyone claims they are doing it yet so many leaders and employees lack the concept
of accountability. Accountability is a subject that ranges through every spectrum of life.
Accountability is hold each person responsible his or her own actions in the given situation, especially
when we know the circumstances. If we are not to hold each other responsible for each of our own
actions and choices then we will never be able to correct problems and concerns, which will make us
fail as a whole because the smallest individual action can account for the gravest of consequence.
Bustin foreshadows to ignite life within an organization using his Seven Pillars of Accountability
program as key to fulfilling the mission of the businesses by using character, unity, learning, tracking,
urgency, reputation and evolving. Character is the first of Bustin s Seven Pillars of Accountability he
writes the character of an organization is shaped by it values. He mentions that these values are clearly
defined and communicated. Making sure it does what is in the best interest of the employees,
customers, investors and suppliers even in times of great difficulty. Next Bustin explains the pillar of
unity, with everyone understanding the mission, values and vision of the organization and their part in
assisting to achieving them. Learning according to Bustin is the continued commitment to

Soccer Is The Greatest Sport Essay
There are many sports in the world today, and each involves different skills in order to play. This
brings a controversial question then: which sport is the greatest? Soccer is the greatest sport due to the
fact that soccer is also an easy sport to learn. Almost every child played soccer when they were little.
There are no true height requirements in order to play soccer. You do not have to be the tallest player
out there to be the best. One of the most rewarding things about soccer is that it is a team sport, which
requires players to work together. One of the main concerns for parents when their kids play a sport is
how much will the sport cost? Soccer is one of the cheapest sports. Unlike many other sports, soccer is
one of the only sports where the clock doesn t stop. Therefore, soccer is the greatest sport. One of the
interviewees, Garrett (age 20), said, I do not think that soccer is the greatest sport. It gets
overshadowed by other sports, for example, baseball and football. In this paper, I will explain why
soccer is the greatest sport.
First of all, soccer is the greatest sport because it is a very easy sport to learn. If children are taught the
rules at a young age, then anyone can understand them. In my personal experience, the rules for soccer
were easy to learn because there were not too many to learn. I had to work very hard to develop the
skills for soccer. I was a referee for little kids and almost all of them understood the rules that went

  • 2. The Elements Of Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose... The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to the underside of its wings which resemble the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is a similar misunderstanding when examining the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When one looks close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism ... The author presents this authentic real situation of a unschooled man that had to face the challenges of a typical fearful day out in the frontier. Although some people, on the other hand, see the story as Realism. Romanticism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because there is something supernatural in life humans can t explain. One day when he was sitting alone mourning the death of his wife there came a surprising creature who entered his home through the window. Life in the frontier back woods wouldn t have brought a big black panther into his house through the window. • 3. Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace Theological Understandings of Mediated Grace When approaching the concept of grace, many people often assume that it is other a mysterious force that exists beyond human understanding. They believe that grace is a divine gift that cannot be humanly grasped because of its supernatural nature. Others believe that mediated grace God as experienced through the senses in a purely human manner is a vital way to bridge the ontological gap (an extreme difference in being that separates the earthly and the divine). Christian theologians from the beginning of the faith have debated the qualities attributed to this phenomenon because of its sheer importance; when dealing with vastly different elements, such as humans and God, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most theologians agree upon the existence and importance of mediated grace, they often disagree upon the exact nature of its role. What this conflict yields though, is not a sense of discord and disunity, but a greater appreciation of the immense horizon of grace as perceived by humanity. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the clash between Martin Luther and the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church (represented here by their Decree on Justification that was presented at the Council of Trent). Luther saw grace as the way to salvation, while the Catholic Church intimated that grace itself was salvation. In his treatise on Christian Liberty, he said very great care must always be exercised so that no man in a false confidence imagines that by such works he will be justified or acquire merit or be saved; for this is the work of faith alone. [8] He referred to this kind of grace as alien righteousness, which he claimed was instilled in us without our works by grace alone. [9] Unlike the Thomistic precepts that the Council of Trent was working from (Aquinas s theory of deification), Luther did not believe that grace affected an ontological change in the person. On the other side, the Trent decree maintained that One truly merits salvation through good works in grace. [10] Luther felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Can one person be a terrorist without the support of a group? Is terrorism defined by motive or result? As my group explored these questions and many more my beliefs were challenged. The group almost never agreed unanimously. I found myself frequently on the side of the minority. This was highlighted early on in the discussion when I disagreed with most of my group about scenario 1. I initially felt the actions of the unnamed man later labeled as Samuel Adams were the actions of a terrorist. Samuel Adams was not trying to overthrow his government, so he was not a rebel. As we talked, I spoke about civil war, the right of a people to overthrow oppressive government, and the reasons for established political parties to take up arms against the majority party. At the end of the discussion, enough of the votes had swung our way for the group to label scenario 5, Not Terrorism. While the recitation session was thought provoking, for me it brought up more questions than it answered. I still am not sure whether scenarios 8 and 9 would be considered hate crime, terrorism, or both. • 6. Optimism And Pessimism In The Great Gatsby I believe that the three texts that I have studied contained moments of optimism and pessimism which in turn have shaped my opinion of the general vision and viewpoint. This alludes to the feelings and emotions portrayed through the omniscient camera in The King s Speech , the morally inclined narrator Nick Caraway in The Great Gatsby and the protagonist in the novel Foster . I was very intrigued to find out more about these societies and the vision the author/director hoped to convey. The Great Gatsby opens in the boom years in the summer of 1922, commonly known as the Jazz Age . The opening is conveyed as a mix of optimism and pessimism. (speaks) Took three years for my parents to notice. As you can imagine, it caused some stomach problems. This left me feeling much more sympathetic towards Bertie and further implemented my pessimistic opinion of the portrayal of children in the past. This is also seen in T.G.G as Pammy, Daisy s daughter is only seen once during the entire 1920 s novel and we realise that she, like Bertie, had nannies who took care off her rather than her parents. A sense of negativity is also conveyed towards children here as Gatsby ,when first introduced to Pammy, was described as looking at the child with surprise. I don t think he had ever believed in its existence. she is described as an it and Gatsby then realises that he can t repeat the past with Daisy and that his obsessive longing for her was a waste of time. I believe that this pessimistic feeling was a factor in his volatility towards Tom in the Plaza. Similarly in Foster , Mildred like a predator, pounced on the innocent protagonist and questioned her about the Kinsella s personal affairs such as where does the old dog sleep, Is she allowed to spend.... . Mildred then inconsiderately informed the little girl of the Kinsella s boy s passing, stating sure didn t he follow that auld hound of theirs into the slurry tank and drown...... He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow slightly changed. Gustav creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article is discussing the issue of whether or not we should be spending the money on organic produce over non organic produce. They are clearly portraying that organic food should be purchased and consumed over non organic food. They convey the message that non organic food is relatively a newer concept than organic produce as it has only come into place since 1950s, where before this all food was originally organic grown. Non organic farmers have at their disposal an arsenal of over 320 pesticides and they use them routinely. Evidence links some of these pesticides with developmental damage to mammals that could lead to cancers, developmental problems and birth defects. They re claims that these pesticides are all below safe limits, but it is all very suspicious, whereas organic produce is hardly ever found with any traces of harmful pesticides or food additive as they are only available to very limited numbers. Same goes with their animals, they are only treated with antibiotics when they show clinical signs of illness. Although organic food costs more this article is in the opinion the non organic farming is cracking at the seams, that is unable of delivering safe, healthy food, treating animals humanely, or taking care of the environment properly. Harrison, both suggest that life is a war disguised by a curtain of innocence. Both describe their respective topics life and war in a negative light suggesting that neither is what it seems to be. The way life is described as a performance in The Stage challenged me to consider what life might look like to an audience. The poem is structured with the different stages of life in each stanza. This shows the development of humankind, both individually and as a species. At the beginning of the poem, the poet starts us off with So I arrived, naked and cold, suggesting both a newborn baby, and the beginning of humanity. The poet says that the innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet uses the text to expose war as an eternal hell stating that War is never over in the many soldiers and loved ones eyes. War Is Never Over reveals that freedom is fought for and that No freedom is not free! The poem focuses on the after effects of war, for example, the memories of the battles and the nightmares that ensue. For me, the poet uncovers that although tough times such as war are resolved in the end, there are still many holes left by the aftereffects of that particular event. It is not only the soldiers that suffer after the war, but also families and loved ones. Those left home to wait know this. For many are still waiting. It was their farewell kiss. This led me to believe that the many soldiers that left for war have most likely died or are missing in action leaving their families awaiting their impossible return. At one stage, the poet goes as far as calling the soldiers heroes; however, reveals to us that although they have come back home, in their minds they hold memories known to them alone. This means that the soldiers have not fully recovered from the war and have to suffer from the terrifying memories of their experiences during the war. I believe that Cecil L. Harrison wrote this poem to warn the many people who overlook these after effects of war when joining due to the glory that they assume they are going to receive when they come home. The reality is, many soldiers that go off to war never come back. War Is Never Over reminds us of the sacrifices that many soldiers have made to make sure that future generations would never have to share the memories that are still fresh in their minds. A question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they even be involved at all? Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly notice a lack of notable activities on your college application (Extracurricular Activity). • 16. The First Jewish Roman War As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile Christians, post the First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was writing greatly affected what he was communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the 90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason , the force by which the universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the logos with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish writings personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29 30; 35 36). One can see how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John wanted to convey to his audience. The Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament worldview as God in action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of logos in this way, By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and thus declares that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). By October 13 the sun is above the horizon for only 1 hour 30 minutes and on October 14 it does not rise above the horizon at all and remains below the horizon until it rises again on 27 February.[17] First light comes in late January because the sky has twilight, being a glow on the horizon, for increasing hours each day, for more than a month before the sun first appears with its disc above the horizon. From mid November to mid January, there is no twilight. In the weeks surrounding 21 June, in the northern polar region, the sun is at its highest elevation, appearing to circle the sky there without going below the horizon. Eventually, it does go below the horizon, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He initially explain that research is redoing search to find what we want to know. His advice was to always focusing in our topic to find the most useful information. Research is used to support our writings, opinions, etc. From this talk, he made us value the library as a very important medium to gain useful and credible information that could help us in our classes. Mr.Chirinos also mentioned how research does not end in the classroom. For example, when we are planning to go to a trip, we start researching to look for prices in different websites and pamphlets. Another example could be when we want to buy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Grendel The Monstrous Nature It is much easier to bury a problem, than to solve it L.Witgenshtein, Philosophical researches To every story there are two sides. The idea may be the same, but the tone that the story is told in shapes our understanding of the events. This idea is can not be more evident than through the vast difference between the Anglo Saxon poem Beowulf and John Gardner s novel Grendel . Both are based on the very same idea of an epic hero slaying a monster. However, the two different points of view telling the story create vastly different perspectives. A powerful demon that is how the narrator refers to Grendel even before mentioning his real name. Grendel is a threatening presence in this poem. In Beowulf , Grendel ... The reader learns that times were peasant in Herot until the fiend out of hell began to work his evil . The first time Grendel attacks the meadhall, he grabs thirty men and slaughters them in his cave. And the more he came the more he took, the more he took the more he murdered. The Irish Revival Poem Still after the official Irish Independence in 1922, the Irish people needed to find an identity free of the English influence but also of the Catholic morality and the values celebrated by the Revival, an identity which could be in step with the times and truly represent them. It was a particularly difficult task for intellectuals and writers. They found themselves almost shut up by Irish censorship and rejected by the bigotry that mostly characterized the middle class society for decades after the Independence. Michael O Donovan in a speech about censorship in 1962 said that writers had to face the bookless homes, the horrible libraries each with its own little group of censors, snuffing out sex that the Censorship Board had failed ... It seems like people in the 1960s were still trying to learn it, as it was in the 1920s, but the results do not give the impression of being good. In the poem, some people who are grouped together to listen to him, an Irish poet, do not know Irish and he does not have translations for his poems, almost symbolizing that he cannot make for them the great effort of learning a language as difficult from Irish, How the Irish Language Revived Me! / ( after nearly shaggin killing me, [...] (235). Then, we can observe that in Davitt s poetry as in O Brien s fiction there is the contrast between rural and urban experience, nonetheless the attitudes towards this theme are different. If the two girls in The Country Girls move to Dublin in order to have a new life, to free themselves from the constraints of their life in the countryside, in Davitt s poem Limerick it is evident how, despite the fact that the poet can adapt to the life in the city, there is a diffidence and uncomfortableness. The tone that he used to depict urban people seems to be sarcastic I should learn to accept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In her memoir, There is No Me Without You, novelist and journalist, Melissa Fay Greene gives a candid insight on one woman s odyssey to rescue Africa s children. Greene successfully creates a sympathetic tone in order to stress the urgencies of the conditions for children in Africa living with AIDs and the difficult lives that they face through the usage of rhetorical questions and pathos. Despite everything Haregewoin has done for these children, [t]hey say, Haregewoin does not help us. (332). It is ironic that the children express so much ungratefulness after all the sacrifices and efforts that Haregewoin has made to ensure that the African orphans have a better life. The insistence of Haregewoin s children conveys a dramatic change in tone as the story transitions from an aspect of positivity and hope in Haregewoin s journey to save the orphaned children to Harwegewoin s desperate attempt to win back the hearts of the African children. Greene reveals an unlikely outcome of the years of sacrifice made by Haregewoin to protect and love the ungrateful children through the abruptly ungrateful attitudes of the orphans towards the only mother they have ever known. Throughout Melissa Fay Greene s memoir, There is No Me Without You, feelings of sympathy are invoked which in effect, causes readers to appreciate what they have, and are educated on a world beyond their capacity. • 25. The Normal Distribution Is A Continuous, Unimodal And... The normal distribution is a continuous, unimodal and symmetric distribution. For a typical normal distribution, a mesokurtic (which means to have a moderate peak and tails for a graph), definition is one that has a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. While this is the case, there might be other normal distributions with means that are not 0 and a standard deviation that is not 1, for these cases, we use their means and standard deviation. For example, if a normal distribution had a mean of 2 and a standard deviation of 3, then in order to clarify that it is indeed a normal distribution, we write N( 2,3). Among the normal distributions, we have a standard normal, exponential, uniform and beta. These are varieties of distributions we can get within a normal distribution based on factors like number of cases for example and where the cases were drawn from. At times when it gets complicated to distinguish between the standard deviation of a variable and that of a sampling distribution, there is a solution. The standard deviation for a sampling distribution is called a standard error and this literally means that if a sampling distribution is normal, then 68% of its samples will lie within one standard error of the mean and 98% within 1.98 standard error of the mean. The normal distribution is useful not just due a random variable following a normal distribution, but also because the Central Limit Theorem, which is a theorem that shows the sampling distribution of the mean ... • 26. Example Of Misogyny In Antigone In Sophocles s Antigone, we can see that the deeply misogynistic society of ancient Greece has manifested itself into Creon, a despotic ruler, despising dissidents, traitors, and especially women. His hatred of women manifested into several examples of misogyny throughout the play: He assumed that the criminal who buried Polyneices was a man, he looks down on Antigone s defiance as improper defiance of a mans order by a woman, and he virtually disowns his son Haemon for disagreeing with him and listening to a woman. In classical Greece, women were widely hated. Misogyny was engraved into the vary culture of ancient Greece, in their religion, the Greek Pantheon, Pandora, one of the first women, unleashed all of the world s problems from the box containing them. Among the many stories in the vast literature of classical Greece, apparently humanity lived in relative peace and happiness until the creation of women, which, via Pandora s treachery and women s other shenanigans, we devolved to our current state. This trend of putting women down on a societal level is known as patriarchy and was incredibly common in Classical societies as compared to now, It is a natural progression akin to bureaucracy that becomes more common as a state ages, the small imbalance of men s physical dominance snowballs into the state of Patriarchy we can see in Sophocles s Antigone. We can see this kind of patriarchy in other societies, such as: China, India, and Rome. This society molded Creon into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the 1970 s the U.S. prison population quadrupled from 158 to 635 people per 100,000, causing the U.S. to gain the title of country with the highest incarceration rate. (Massoglia, Firebaugh, Warner, 2013, p. 142; Muller, 2012) As the growth of the U.S prison and jail population rapidly increased, so did the growth of the three major contributors to that population African Americans, Hispanics, and whites with African American and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Muller s study found that though the number of African American incarceration increased after the 1970 s, one of the causes of the rise that contributed to roughly thirty percent of the African American incarceration came about long before during the initial migration of many African Americans to the North between 1880 and 1950. The migration was related to the rise in African American incarceration in that the African Americans who migrated from the South were migrating from a comparatively low nonwhite incarceration rate to the comparatively high nonwhite incarceration rate that was in the North. Though the migration had a direct effect on the increase of incarcerations of the African American population, it did not cause a rise in the number of white incarcerations, thus causing a rise in racial disparity in prisons and jails before mass incarceration was established. An additional study that Muller conducted was related to the number of foreign whites being incarcerated or joined as a part of a state s police force and their relationship with the African Americans incarceration rate. Everyone claims they are doing it yet so many leaders and employees lack the concept of accountability. Accountability is a subject that ranges through every spectrum of life. Accountability is hold each person responsible his or her own actions in the given situation, especially when we know the circumstances. If we are not to hold each other responsible for each of our own actions and choices then we will never be able to correct problems and concerns, which will make us fail as a whole because the smallest individual action can account for the gravest of consequence. • 33. Soccer Is The Greatest Sport Essay There are many sports in the world today, and each involves different skills in order to play. This brings a controversial question then: which sport is the greatest? Soccer is the greatest sport due to the fact that soccer is also an easy sport to learn. Almost every child played soccer when they were little. There are no true height requirements in order to play soccer. You do not have to be the tallest player out there to be the best. One of the most rewarding things about soccer is that it is a team sport, which requires players to work together. One of the main concerns for parents when their kids play a sport is how much will the sport cost? Soccer is one of the cheapest sports. Unlike many other sports, soccer is one of the only sports where the clock doesn t stop. Therefore, soccer is the greatest sport. One of the interviewees, Garrett (age 20), said, I do not think that soccer is the greatest sport. It gets overshadowed by other sports, for example, baseball and football. In this paper, I will explain why soccer is the greatest sport. First of all, soccer is the greatest sport because it is a very easy sport to learn. If children are taught the rules at a young age, then anyone can understand them. In my personal experience, the rules for soccer were easy to learn because there were not too many to learn. I had to work very hard to develop the skills for soccer. I was a referee for little kids and almost all of them understood the rules that went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
