The document discusses several film magazines, including Empire, Sight and Sound, and Total Film. Empire is the largest selling film magazine in the UK and other countries. Its target audience is 15-24 year olds and it is mostly read by males. Sight and Sound is published by the BFI and discusses new films and includes a film of the week. Total Film is published every 4 weeks and offers news, reviews and features on cinema, DVDs and Blu-rays. The document argues that Empire would be the most relatable magazine for a film trailer due to its wide audience and monthly publication schedule.
2. Empire is a British film magazine published
monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. Its first
issue was published in July 1989, and is now
the biggest selling film magazine in the Uk and
around the world. Other countries in which it
is published include the United States,
Australia, Russia, Turkey and Portugal.
The most popular age range of readers
of the magazine are 15-24 year olds
with 34.8% of readers being of this age.
However a larger amount of readers of
the magazine are male at a large
percentage of 77% with female readers
are 23%.
3. Sight and Sound magazine is a British
Monthly magazine, published by British
Film Institute. They discuss new films
and contain a ‘Film of the Week’ in each
issue. Unlike some other film
magazines, this one looks at different
forms of media that relate to certain
films. Each review that Sight and Sound
publishes, a full cast and crew credit list
is put next to it.
4. Total Film is a UK based film magazine that is
published 13 times a year which is every four
weeks. The Publishing company is ‘Future
Publishing’. The magazine was launched in 1997
and offers cinema, DVD and Blu-ray news, reviews
and features.
Each month, Total Film offers a range of
features, from spotlight interviews with actors
and directors, to making of and on-set articles
for new and future releases. Each issue always
includes the ‘Total Film Interview’, which is a six-page
interview with an actor or director, along
with a critique of their area in the film.
5. Most relatable Film Magazine
In my opinion I feel that Empire Magazine is the most
relatable magazine for our trailer. Each issue is published
monthly meaning that our film would be the main film
featured. The article based around our film would b the
most important and biggest, and our main character
would be the key feature of the front cover. As an up-coming
film, our film would need as much recognition as
possible, and getting a spread in a magazine that is
popular around the world, we would gain the numbers
in an audience that we need. The target audience to the
magazine is also 15-24 year olds, and this is the
demographic that we are aiming at.
6. The main title of the magazine is in the largest font that is shown on the cover. It tells
the person viewing the magazine immediately what its name is. The colour red is a
colour that connotes an alert and surprise. Its one that colour that stands out from all
others which is perfect for a magazine that wants to be noticed.
The main focal point of
this magazine cover is the
figure in the middle. A
large image that draws
the eye is a key feature in
any film magazine. The
image has to relate to the
main film that is to be
spoken about in the issue,
and the cover is the best
way to show this.
The title of the featured film is
shown to give the reader an
indication of the main focus in
the magazine if they do not
recognise the character in the
middle. It is shown in a large
font that an be seen. However
not too large that it draws away
from the title of the magazine.
The white in colour creates a
contrast to the darker
background of the colour,
making it stand out more.
Smaller images that give brief
information of other articles
in the magazine are shown on
the side. The am of these is to
be seen later on in the
viewing of the magazine.
The main actor in the
featured film is also listed to
inform the reader who the
figure is.
