3. Who are their readers?
• Total- is aimed at both and female aged 16-35 who have earn an income and have a
lot of free time .people who like to watch new mainstream movies and like to keep
up who are the upcoming new stars in the films.
• Empire – is a very populist magazine in which both male and female like to read
however the target audience is predominantly male from the ages of 16-35 as they
cover a lot of action packed movies such as captain America, Xmen and Iron man
which are films which predominately aimed at male viewers.
• Filmmaker- is an indie magazine who is aimed at male and female between the ages
of 16-35 and have a particular interest in creating a film as the magazine gives
information about financing and distribution. People who prefer to watch
independent films rather than mainstream.
• Sight and Sound- is a magazine aimed at a niche audience and for audiences who
want to focus more on the artistic side of the filming, movies are made primarily for
aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit.

4. What design and layout conventions are there across different covers of
the same magazine?
All of the magazines have a bold title to show which magazine it is. On the front cover
of the magazines all of them have the name of the film that they are advertising and
the main characters are on the middle of the page, picture size is quite big so that the
audience can recognise them. They all give information about what it is going to be
inside the magazine so the audience know what to expect . I also notice that the
backgrounds are mostly plain apart from the empire has an image of the sea. All the
magazines only use one text style. The titles are at the top of the magazine.

audience, this would be good for
our magazine cover so the
audience can recognise the
magazine.
The main character picture is
centred in the middle of the
magazine we could use this
so that the audience knows
what the character looks like
. This particular image focus
on the characters muscles
and the powers which he has
the target audience is
predominantly aimed at male
16-30.
In the background it has
information about what it is
inside the magazine. We
could use this idea to give
information about what it is
going to be in the magazine
to attract the audience to
purchase it.
The language it uses is
exciting the word exclusive
makes fans feel like they
are getting information
about the film which
someone else doesn’t
have which could maybe
encourage them to like it.
The background of the cover
doesn’t really fit with the
character. for our magazine
we would want the
background to be in line
with the character.
