According to several small-scale human studies, fenugreek seeds have shown potential to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. However, the sample sizes of these studies were too small to generalize conclusions. A systematic review found that all studies reported some hypoglycemic effect, but limitations in study design and sample size prevent definitive recommendations. A randomized controlled trial in China found that fenugreek may provide additional benefit when taken alongside sulfonylurea diabetes medications, though more research is still needed. Common side effects reported are diarrhea and flatulence.
