The major internal organs of
the female reproductive
system include the vagina and uterus
— which act as the receptacle for
semen — and the ovaries, which
produce the female's ova. The vagina
is attached to the uterus through the
cervix, while the fallopian tubes
connect the uterus to the ovaries.
The female reproductive
system (or female genital system) is
made up of the internal and external sex organs that
function in human reproduction. The female reproductive
system is immature at birth and develops to maturity
at puberty to be able to produce gametes, and to carry
a fetus to full term. The internal sex organs are
the uterus and Fallopian tubes, and the ovaries. The
uterus or womb accommodates the embryo which
develops into the fetus. The uterus also
produces vaginal and uterine secretions which help the
transit of sperm to the Fallopian tubes. The ovaries
produce the ova (egg cells). The external sex organs are
also known as the genitals and these are the organs of
the vulva including the labia, clitoris and vaginal
opening. The vagina is connected to the uterus at
the cervix.
Fertilization usually occurs in the Fallopian
tubes and marks the beginning
of embryogenesis. The zygote will
then divide over enough generations of
cells to form a blast cyst,
which implants itself in the wall of the
uterus. This begins the period of gestation
and the embryo will continue
to develop until full-term. When
the fetus has developed enough to survive
outside the womb, the cervix dilates and
contractions of the uterus propel the newborn
through the birth canal (the vagina).
At certain intervals, the ovaries
release an ovum, which passes
through the Fallopian tube into the
uterus. If, in this transit, it meets
with sperm, a single sperm can
enter and merge with the
egg, fertilizing it. The
corresponding equivalent among
males is the male reproductive
system.
Vagina
The vagina is a fibro muscular (made up of
fibrous and muscular tissue) canal leading
from the outside of the body to the cervix of
the uterus or womb. It is also referred to as
the birth canal in the context of pregnancy.
The vagina accommodates the
male penis during sexual
intercourse. Semen containing spermatozoa
is ejaculated from the male at orgasm, into
the vagina potentially enabling fertilization of
the egg cell (ovum) to take place.

Reproductive
System Diseases
The Uterus
•Cesarean Section.
•Endometriosis.
•Gonorrhea.
•Hysterectomy.
•Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
•Preterm Labor.
•Uterine Cancer.
•Uterine Diseases.
Such disorders may be caused by
infections, physical damage, or
hormonal imbalances. The first two
articles in this section discuss pelvic
inflammatory,
disease and endometriosis, disorders
that may affect more than one female
reproductive organ. The next articles
discuss disorders of the ovaries,
uterus, and cervix.
Disorders of the Female
Reproductive Organs
The female reproductive organs are the
ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix,
vagina, and vulva. Since the combined
primary function of these organs is
reproduction, disorders affecting them can
result in infertility and should be treated
as soon as possible, particularly if children
are planned. Such disorders may be caused
by infections, physical damage, or
hormonal imbalances.
Disorders affecting the female
reproductive organs are common, but
many of them can be treated easily.
Disorders affecting menstruation, the
menopause, or sexual development
are covered in other sections
(see Menstrual, menopausal, and
hormonal problems), as are sexual
disorders of both sexes (see Sexually
transmitted infections, Infertility,
and Sexual problems).

2.What is the function of the
ovaries in the female
reproductive system?
3.How many eggs
does a woman
have?

of disorder or diseases of
Uterus
7-9. (3 pts) What is the
other word of female
reproductive system?
10.(fill in the blanks) It is
also referred to as the _____
____ in the context
of pregnancy.
1.What are the parts female
reproductive system?
The parts are the ovaries,
fallopian tube, uterus,
vagina, fimbriae,and cervix.
2.What is the function of the
ovaries in the female
reproductive system?
The female reproductive
system provides several functions.
The ovaries produce the female egg
cells, called the ova or acolytes. The
acolytes are then transported to the
fallopian tube where fertilization by a
sperm may occur.
3.How many eggs does a woman
have?
During fetal life, there are about 6
million to 7 million eggs.

The vagina is attached to the uterus through the cervix, while the fallopian tubes connect the uterus to the ovaries.
  • 4. The female reproductive system (or female genital system) is made up of the internal and external sex organs that function in human reproduction. The female reproductive system is immature at birth and develops to maturity at puberty to be able to produce gametes, and to carry a fetus to full term. The internal sex organs are the uterus and Fallopian tubes, and the ovaries. The uterus or womb accommodates the embryo which develops into the fetus. The uterus also produces vaginal and uterine secretions which help the transit of sperm to the Fallopian tubes. The ovaries produce the ova (egg cells). The external sex organs are also known as the genitals and these are the organs of the vulva including the labia, clitoris and vaginal opening. The vagina is connected to the uterus at the cervix.

  • 6. Fertilization usually occurs in the Fallopian tubes and marks the beginning of embryogenesis. The zygote will then divide over enough generations of cells to form a blast cyst, which implants itself in the wall of the uterus. This begins the period of gestation and the embryo will continue to develop until full-term. When the fetus has developed enough to survive outside the womb, the cervix dilates and contractions of the uterus propel the newborn through the birth canal (the vagina).
  • 7. At certain intervals, the ovaries release an ovum, which passes through the Fallopian tube into the uterus. If, in this transit, it meets with sperm, a single sperm can enter and merge with the egg, fertilizing it. The corresponding equivalent among males is the male reproductive system.
  • 8. Vagina The vagina is a fibro muscular (made up of fibrous and muscular tissue) canal leading from the outside of the body to the cervix of the uterus or womb. It is also referred to as the birth canal in the context of pregnancy. The vagina accommodates the male penis during sexual intercourse. Semen containing spermatozoa is ejaculated from the male at orgasm, into the vagina potentially enabling fertilization of the egg cell (ovum) to take place.

The next articles discuss disorders of the ovaries, uterus, and cervix.
  • 13. Disorders of the Female Reproductive Organs The female reproductive organs are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina, and vulva. Since the combined primary function of these organs is reproduction, disorders affecting them can result in infertility and should be treated as soon as possible, particularly if children are planned. Such disorders may be caused by infections, physical damage, or hormonal imbalances.
  • 14. Disorders affecting the female reproductive organs are common, but many of them can be treated easily. Disorders affecting menstruation, the menopause, or sexual development are covered in other sections (see Menstrual, menopausal, and hormonal problems), as are sexual disorders of both sexes (see Sexually transmitted infections, Infertility, and Sexual problems).
