The Pros And Cons Of Wrongful Birth
When discussing wrongful birth, life and conception, one must first understand the method of
sterilization. Sterilization is defined as a person terminating the ability to produce offspring
(Pozgar, 2013). Procedures are carried out to males or females to produce successful sterilization.
These procedures are normally completed voluntarily, however there have been circumstances
which sterilization can be performed without consent. The debate of wrongful birth, wrongful life
and wrongful conception is due to improper or ineffective sterilization procedures (Pozgar, 2013).
This has resulted in legal rulings and a determination of damages by the court system.
Wrongful birth is explained as a child would not have been born had the proper sterilization
technique occurred (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful birth may have legal implications when genetic
defects are present at the birth of the child. In addition, there has been legal debate when
physicians have failed to inform patients on congenital abnormalities when prescribing certain
contraception for females (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful life is described as a claim of a child or
parent suffered harm as result of a birth of a child (Pozgar, 2013). Legal implications include
healthcare providers failure to inform parents of potential genetic or congenital abnormalities thus
preventing parent s decision to terminate the pregnancy. However, there is no precedent for a legal
right not to be born, and wrongful life arguments are mostly unsuccessful (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful
conception has legal implications in the form of damages sought by parents related to a birth after
an ineffective sterilization procedure. Parents seek out a court ruling to place a monetary value on
a myriad of items like pain and suffering associated with birth, lost wages, and emotional or
psychological pain (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful birth, wrongful life, and wrongful conception have
been widely recognized within the legal system, and the arguments and definitions align closely
with one another.

A recent study conducted by the Forrester Research indicates that U.S manufacturers are dependent
on the benefits of Information Technology to improve the supply chain, improve the cycle time and
receive high efficiency in order to deliver the products to their customers within the time frame.
Stevens defines Supply chain management as the series of interconnected activities that are
concerned with the planning, coordinating and controlling materials, parts and finished goods from
the supplier to the customer and works as a transporting link between these facilities. With the
development of Information Technology the companies has adapted online communications which
helps to increase the interaction between firm and the customer effectively. According to Bakos
amp; Brynjyoolfsson (1993) Information Technology decreases transactional costs between the
transaction costs between the buyers and suppliers and creates a more cooperative governance
structure which finally results in closer buyer supplier relations. The research revealed that the
effect of information technology on Supply chain management are on 4 aspects which are purchase,
logistic, firm, vendor relationship management and customer relationship management.

How Does The Poison Tree Rhyme Scheme
The poem is metaphorical in nature. The title poison tree is a metaphor used to describe anger
which is a harmful emotion, likened to poison. The apple fruit, borne from the watered poison
tree, depicts revenge. Once the poison tree was all grown it bore the apple fruit which was an evil
plan of vengeance. The writer also uses a regular rhymescheme in the poem to create rhythm. The
rhyme schemeis such that the last words in every two lines in each stanzasound the same. For
example, in the first stanza, the words friend and end , foe and grow . In the second stanza: fears
and tears , smiles and wiles . In the third stanza: night and bright , shine and mine . In the last
verse: stole and pole , see and tree . Symbolism

Death And Death
Slug knocked back his double bourbon and looked at his watch. Death would be here soon, and
he needed one more drink. He threw another five at the dancer attacking the pole in front of him
and thought about his bladder. It was urging him to take a piss. He needed to get up, but those
tits were perfect. How could a man walk away from something like that? He couldn t and that
was ok. Death would understand. Girls like Miss Perfect Tits never paid any attention to guys like
him. Why would they? Old Ricky the Slug wasn t much to look at. But he was flush. He had hit it
big at the poker tables over at the Continental and he meant to enjoy it. The Slug ignored his
bladder and ordered another bourbon.

Slug did his business and looked around. No windows, and a drain in the center of the floor. This
will do nicely. He thought.
He had seen that fat fuck Rocco slip in and palm a Benjamin to old moose neck about thirty
minutes ago. He had taken the bait. The news of old Slug s epic run at the Continental would
have traveled fast, and he knew it wouldn t take long for a little birdie to sing in Rocco s ear. That
was just fine, because this time, Rocco wouldn t be collecting cash.
Slug stood at the sink, washed his hands and waited. Shortly the door swung open and in walked
Rocco, all cocky like his nuts were on wheels. Rocco locked the door behind him. Well, well, look
who washes his hands after playin with his willy? Your Ma would be so proud. He said. Slug tried
to look surprised and backed up against the wall.
Hey Rocco, oh shit man, I was about to call you man!
Rocco reached out with his hairy slab of a hand and pinned Slug against the dirty tile. The smell of
Aqua Velva and Vitalis briefly masked the stale urine that permeated the room.
So I hear you got lucky tonight?
Aw, you know, I hit a few good hands, nothin to go ape shit about.
That s not what I heard. I heard you cleaned out a bunch of upstate rubes for close to twelve large.
Rocco tightened his grip on Slug s shirt. I don t like hearin things like this Slug, not unless I hear it

Analysis Of Saint Sebastian And The Roman Emperor, Reign...
284 AD (anno domini) was the start of Diocletian s, Roman emperor, reign and purgatory of
Christians. In result, Saint Sebastian was one of numerous victims during Rome s persecutions.
Saint Sebastian was born a noble and a man of Gallia Narbonensis, a province north of the Alps
of what is now southern France. Narbonensis was world renowned for its trading and liquidity to
ports. On the other hand, Narbonensis was a tactical masterpiece for the Romans as it worked as a
territorial defense for Gallic attacks on Italy. SaintSebastian has two different feast days depending
on the denomination of Christianity(January 20 for Catholicism and December 18 for Eastern
Orthodox). The Catholic Church sets aside one date out of the year for every canonized saint.
The saints are remembered for all of their accomplishments in their lifetime along with dedicated
prayers, mentions, and scripture reading. This is undoubtedly parallel to a panegyric for each
and every saint. In 286 AD it was discovered that Saint Sebastian was in fact a Christian,
following this epiphany, Sebastian was handed over to Mauretanian archers where they pierced
his epidermis was punctured by arrows. Post arrow assault, Sebastian was nurtured back into
good health by Saint Irene, but he was finally eradicated by way of clubs in 288 AD, in Rome.
Saint Sebastian was pre congregation, so there was not a process for canonization. However, Saint
Sebastian is a patron saint of athletes, archers, and soldiers due to

Life of Maxamillian Robespierre
Maximilien Robespierre declared at the trial of King Louis XVI. The King must die so that the
nation can live. Robespierre advocated the kings demise and with it the ways of the Ancien
RГ©gime. However, in an ironic twist of fate his words also foreshadowed his own rise and fall as
the leader of the French Revolution. Known as The Incorruptible , or alternately Dictateur
Sanguinaire Robespierre is a monumental figure of the French Revolution, but which was he? Was
he the incorruptible revolutionist fighting to overthrow the Ancien Regime or a raging radical that
implemented his own absolute tendencies under the cover of the revolution? When dissecting the

Another characteristic of Absolutism is that of the subjugation of the church. While previous
absolute rulers either appointed the clergy or became the head of the church Robespierre took a
different direction by forming his own religion. The Cult of the Supreme Being was developed
by Robespierre based on a radical concept of deist beliefs, but with the addition of the quest for
virtue and civic duty as well as emphasizing reason. Robespierre stated that his religion would
banish all the ridiculous phantoms that the ambitions of priest and the politics of kings have
commanded us to obey in the name of heaven. On May 7, 1794 Robespierre introduced the Cult
of the Supreme Being to the National Convention and on June 8 the Festival of the Supreme
Being was held to inaugurate the new state religion. The former catholic state was banned. With
the adoption of this new religion the Catholic Church lost any remaining power they had on a
political level, lowering them to a never before seen powerless in France. Not only did this new
radical religion revoke the power of the Catholic Church, but all that power was imbued into the
leader of this new religion, Robespierre himself. He church wasn t the only body that was reduced
to a powerless state during this time, but the nobility as well.

The Theme Of Death In Othello and A Doll s House Essay...
The theme of death is present in many works of literature. It is given metaphors and cloaked with
different meanings, yet it always represents an end. Every end signifies a new beginning, and every
death gives rise to a new birth. Physical death ...is mere transformation, not destruction, writes Ding
Ming Dao. What dies is merely the identity, the identification of a collection of parts that we called
a person. What dies is only our human meaning (49). Figuratively speaking, deathsymbolizes a
change, an interruption or cessation of regular routine. In this sense, death can be viewed as a more
positive occurrence, because change leads to new experience, which, in turn, leads to knowledge
and a better... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, when confronted with a mental battle, his logical defense isn t strong enough. Othello loses
because sentiment beats his rationality.
The final scene in Othello is loaded with deaths. Every character that died in the play was a
victim of Iago s fraudulent plot. Iago slew Roderigo and Emilia to maintain the frame around his
scheme. He killed to keep them silent, thinking that he could still retain his cover. Iago was foul,
because he did harm to others only to satisfy his own appetite. His plot ended in the most
unfortunate way, and it s end didn t justify the means, because he got caught.
Othello slew Desdemona for honor and justice. Although he was wrong, his action can be
somewhat justified, as his purpose was understandable. Othello was already dead inside before he
committed suicide. The difference in his character before and after the temptation scene is
remarkable. Iago literally tore Othello apart and rebuilt him, instilling in him a whole new set of
facts and ideas. Othello killed himself when he realized the truth, because his old self was already
gone, not to mention the love of his life. His suicide followed the instant that he stepped out of
delusion, and his death was an awakening,
because it shattered the misconception of truth. Othello s death concluded the play, clearing up
every lie that Iago had woven.

Compare And Contrast Lincoln And The Civil War
The American Civil War was undeniably one of the most influential events in the formation of the
United States and what it is today. There were several prominent figures on both the side of the
Union and the Confederacy. Two important individuals from this era were President Abraham
Lincoln and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These two men fought on opposite sides of the war,
Lincoln supporting the Union and Forrest the Confederacy. They both found great success during
the war, despite their drastically differing approaches and beliefs. Of the two, Lincoln had a more
positive and lasting influence on the United Statesand the values held to this day.
Forrest and Lincoln both had a strong effect on society and the American people at the time.
Lincoln impacted the North heavily with his beliefs and values, whereas Forrest had a strong hold
on those supporting the Confederacy. He primarily had an influence over the soldiers and troops
under his command. While Forrest only directly held the attention of his troops, Lincoln being the
President of the United States, had more of an impact on the citizens through public contact and
delivering speeches. President Lincoln and General Forrest encouraged different qualities in their
followers. Lincoln valued equality, empathy and freedom. Forrest was a general in the Confederate
army and therefore focused much more on action and success on the battlefield to spread his cause.
Lincoln, inversely, focused much more on gaining traction

Case Study #1 Geox
The Geox Company is a great example of how an idea can become reality. In order for the idea of
the company s founder and CEO Mario Moretti Polegato used various concepts to create the
products that led to the Geox Company to become what it is today. Polegato had developed the

were uncomfortable in an old pair of sneakers so he proceeded to make a hole in each of sole of the
shoe. This resulted in relief from his discomfort.
Polegato came up with the idea of a shoe that breaths which led to the development of the Geox
technology and brand. The technology behind Geox is a membrane which allows for their shoes to

Personal Narrative Techniques Used In My Writing
I chose to submit this narrative due to the risks I took and the strong sense of tone and mood
that were evident in my piece. I expanded out of my comfort zone by using a lead that I wouldn t
typically gravitate towards. More often than not, I choose to use Imagery as my way of hooking
the reader. With this piece however, I chose to start from the end and I was very pleased with the
outcome. I liked that it was different, and really left the reader with a sense of suspense which made
them want to continue. The most challenging aspect of the narrative writingprocess for me was
definitely creating this hook, and that is partly why I was so drawn to this piece. I struggled in the
beginning of the unit to make a hook that would ultimately add... Show more content on

Several people, including two peer editors and a teacher I conferenced with, were able to
correctly identify the tone and mood I was trying to convey in my piece, being nervous and
excitement.. I tried to set this tone using literary devices such as imagery (sensory language),
dialogue, and thoughts. The most prominent device however, would undoubtedly be imagery. I
feel as though the language and use of the senses in my piece really helped get the mood across.
An example of this can be seen when I wrote, My heart started to pound in my chest, a constant
and unyielding kick that threatened to burst at any moment. This feeling is often associated with
fear, but this wasn t fear, it was something different and exciting all together. It was happiness.
Pure happiness that overjoyed me and filled me to the brim with this warm and exhilarating hum.
I used words like exhilarating to show what a rush I was having, and the pounding in my chest to
translate into how the reader felt experiencing my piece. I included this because right from the get
go I wanted the reader to know that the overall mood would be a mix of nerves and

Taking a Look at Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll was born on January 27, 1832, as Charles Lutwidge Dodgson to a family of
workers in the army and Church (and a whole family full of Charles ). His great grandfather, also
Charles Dodgson, had been a bishop. His grandfather, another Charles Dodgson, had been an
army captain and ended up being killed in battle, leaving two children behind. The elder son,
Charles, went to Westminster and then Oxford. This Charles married his cousin in 1827 and
became a country parson. Out of this marriage came yet another Charles. Our Charles, who came
to use the penname of Lewis Carroll (and, gee, I wonder why). He was the third of eleven
children who, remarkably, all lived to adulthood. The first years of his education were spent at
home and consisted of reading materials and progressing at his own rate. By the age of seven,
he was reading The Pilgrim s Progress. It s been said that he was originally left handed but was
forced to adapt to use his right hand, which was not an uncommon practice at the time. There is
no evidence of such a thing happening, though, nor of the trauma it supposedly caused a young
Carroll (VictorianWeb). He began attending Oxford in 1851. After attending the school for two
days, however, he was called home due to his mother s death. Young Charles didn t let her death
distract too much from his path at Oxford. He did not always give his best or work his hardest in
his academic career, but he was an exceptionally gifted student and achievement came

The Importance Of Ideological Thinking In Canadian Society
Converse study finds that most people do not have a clear set of beliefs that allow them to
understand the candidates positions. Canadian society exhibits a similar pattern of political
awareness. This may be seem concerning as political knowledge can enhance participation which
is central to a democracy. However, ideological thinking may not certainly correspond to better
political awareness. Electorates also may not need high level of political knowledge to make voting
decisions. Political parties in Canadahave gradually become more ideologically distinguishable,
where people can position themselves according to their values. In the election, despite the lack of
political sophistication majority Canadians can most likely vote for the party that best align with
their beliefs.
In the Canadian system, the elected party and its leader make major decisions on behalf of the

Third Gender
In society, the biological difference between men and women is used as a justification for aligning
them with different social roles which restrict and mold their attitudes and behavior. Merriam
Webster defines gender as the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with
one sex. Narrow minded society of today is not satisfied with the natural difference of sex, but each
insist on adding a cultural difference of genderto it. The unsophisticated, ideal physical facts
always become associated with the complex psychological qualities (Holter). It is not enough for a
male to be a man; he must also be masculine. A woman, in addition to being a female, must be

From a historical stand point, it was always assumed that the head of the household was always
the male. Today s society have groomed people to believe and expect a man to be brave,
industrious and domineering, whereas a woman is suppose to be submissive and nurturing
(263). Men have also been raised to believe that their feelings and emotions are suppose to be
hidden from others and should be dealt with internally. With creating this society, men will be
able to express themselves without ridicule. Men will be able to continue to provide for their
families, as well as maintaining a clean image without being labeled as queer. Men will have an
overall promising and positive impact on society by creating a community where children will
have positive male figure in their lives. This new type of man, one who is sensitive, caring and
not afraid to vent his feelings will still be able to carry the burden of taking care of the household
and the children in the event there is absence of the mother. The female and androgynous
perception of a man will eliminate the dominance of a male s ego.
Androgyny is a word made up of two Greek roots. Andro which means males; whereas, gyn means
female (Woodhill, 18). Androgyny is the state or condition of having a high degree of both
feminine and masculine traits (18). Under these circumstances, human beings have loosely defined

Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides
Middlesex by Jeffry Eugenides is a book about Calliope Cal Stephanides. In the beginning of the
book, Cal, as he likes to be referred to as, tells us about his condition. Cal has a 5 Alpha Reductase
pseudohermaphrodite which is, simply put, a condition that affects the sexual development of
males before the birth of the child and also during puberty. In Middlesex, incestuous marriages
were secretly accepted among the villagers which resulted in Cal being conceived by cousins.
Before Cal s birth, the tradition of his family was genderprediction by his grandmother,
Desdemona Stephanides. It seemed to be a traditional thing for the family from the Greek roots.
When it was time to predict Tessie s, Cal s mother, baby, Desdemona declared that the child would
be a boy. Milton, Cal s father, disagreed because there was no way the baby could be a boy
scientifically. This could also be based on the fact that Tessie and Milton wanted a baby girl. Until
the age of sixteen, Cal was raised as a girl even though he had a male brain biologically.
The fact that Calliope was a child of incest was a huge factor on why he was born with the
condition he was born with. 5 Alpha Reductace, as stated earlier, is a condition in which people
are born male but their bodies fail to produce enough dihydrotestosterone (DHT). A shortage of
DHT disrupts the formation of external sex organs before birth which is why it is understandable
that Cal s parents raised him as a girl. The thing is,

The Battle of Gettysburg: Why Was It a Turning Point?
July 1, 1863, the bloodiest battle on American soil was just beginning, this battle would be known
as The Battle of Gettysburg. This three day battle commenced with Confederate attack led by
General Robert E. Lee, on the north of the small town of Gettysburg. Union President, Abraham
Lincoln had appointed George Meade as Union commander to counter coming attacks in
Gettysburg. This battle would involve other Confederate attacks, ending with a final Union blow

In the beginning of the Civil War the Confederates clearly had the advantage, all the Confederates
had to do was defend their land. This made the Confederates look most likely to win the Civil War,
however, after the Battle of Gettysburg, the Union had the advantage. The four main reasons:
geography of the major battle campaigns, estimated casualties at the Battle of Gettysburg, and the
battle s aftermath showed this. The geography showed how this battle was the last battle shown in
the North. The estimated casualties showed that there were significant losses on both sides but the
South suffered a lot more. Union President Lincoln also told how the Union was affected because

John D. Rockefeller s Robber Baron
John D Rockefeller was one of the richest men in history with a net worth exceeding three

called Standard Oil. This company used the excess junk left from the good oil to make kerosene
to fuel lamps, lights, cars, excreta. Rockefeller is what we call a Robber Baron , this means
someone who is greedy and selfish for power, and wealth. In the 1900s these people were hated
to the point of the government suing them for breaking Antitrust Acts and forcing Rockefeller to
take down his monopoly over the oil industry. Rockefeller was born into a poor family and could

Carol Rogers Influence in Psychology
Carl Rogers and His Influence on Modern Psychology
Introduction
Carl Rogers is considered the founder of client centered therapy, which asserts that childhood
experiences affect an individual s feelings, thoughts, and behavior (Rathus, 2004). The therapist
must see the world from that of the client to be effective in treatment. Rogers has influenced many
psychological theories and therapies present today, especially positive psychology. Despite this fact,
many who practice positive psychology do not, or are not willing to, accept the influence of past
theories.
Client Centered Therapy In 1959, Rogers asserted that the therapeutic relationship is used

This type of therapy began to be misused and negative emotion, that may play a beneficial role in
therapy, was ignored completely. In fact, pessimism can even become an important strategy to
deal with anxiety. Individuals can use negative thinking as a defensive strategy to work through
their anxiety with the result being just as effective as those who take an optimistic approach
(Chang Norem, 2002; as cited in La Torre, p. 153). In a true clinical setting, a patient is free to
express feelings and experiences to facilitate self healing through positive intervention techniques.
With the data available on positive psychology, many clinicians may be tempted to utilize a
particular positive intervention with the belief it will make a tremendous impact on the patient.
However, this may be unhealthy for the patient who may need to experience negative or difficult
emotion to work through the issue they are dealing with. Nonetheless, positive therapy has a
definitive useful role in psychological treatment and adds a deeper dimension to the treatment
setting (p. 404). Therapists who use this type of therapy, however, should remember not to become
a slave to the tyrannies of optimism (Seligman, 1990, p. 292; as cited in La Torre, p. 404).
Carl Rogers and Positive Psychology Many of Carl Rogers s ideas have been influential on
modern psychological practices, and specifically in the area of positive psychology. Client centered

The Scarecrow
A farmer and his family lived on their farm in a little town in Alberta. The farmer s son and his
friends built a scarecrow one day. They built a very ugly scarecrow. That night, there was a storm
and the wind got strong. It began to rain with thunder and lightening. The boy woke up and looked
out of the window.
The lightning flashed, and he was able to see the scarecrow. The scarecrow seemed farther than
where he had put it. The boy kept looking out for the scarecrow every time there was lightning
and each time the scarecrow seemed to be at a little different place. The boy was very tired and
so he said to himself that he was just imagining things. He went back to sleep but was soon woken
up by loud thunder. He looked out the window but he could no longer see the scarecrow.
The boy decided to go out into the field and search for the scarecrow, thinking maybe the wind
had blown it away. When he got outside, he looked around but didn t see it anywhere. He ran to
a big tree in the field, but he tripped and fell to the ground. He got up and looked up at the big

In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury speculated many things, but one thing that he speculated that
came true was people will wear headphones or seashells instead of talking to each other and that
we would talk through the headphones instead of talking on our phones. He showed this when
Mildred and Montag were home together and Mildred has the seashells in her ears. She had both
ears plugged with the electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly,
saw him, and nodded (Bradbury, 22). This happens in our society when students are walking in the
halls between classes and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other.

Collusion In Baseball
What is it
Collusion is a business term that means owners of different companies working together and taking
certain steps to keep the salaries of workers low to make sure they (the owners) make more money.
In baseball, collusion includes owners working with each other to make sure that competitive
bidding or players jointly negotiating with the owners does not happen. There have been at least
eight different allegations of collusion being put together.
How it started
Collusion in baseball has been referred in the past as a gentleman s agreement . At the end of the
baseball season in 1918, in an effort to keep the player salaries low, the owners released all players

Collusion Allegation 3
After the first rulings in the first two collusion cases, the owners decided it was time to change the
way they went about conspiring with one another. It was then that they put together what they
called an information bank to pass information back and forth to one another about the offers that
were being made to certain players. The MLBPA filed yet another grievance in early 1988.

Contrast Essay Between essays Just Take Away Thier Guns...
Just Take Away Their Guns is an effective argument than I Want a Wife. James Wilson gives a more
factual, organizational and better language used argument than Judy Brady.
In I Want a Wife Brady is stereotypical of what she believes to be the roles of the husband and
wife. Also Brady s essay is one sided, she never states a side that would argue her viewpoint.
While Wilson shows two clearly stated sides of his argument. The first reason as to why ?Just
Take Away Their Guns? is more effective is because the essay has more specifics and facts that
can?t be refutable. The president wants more gun control but the public says the laws will fail who

He is correct in his statement. Based on a household survey, Gary Kleck, a criminologist, has
estimated that every year, guns are used that is, displayed or fired ? for defensive purposes more
than a million times, not counting their use by the police. If his number is correct, Wilson states
that the number of people who defend themselves with a gun exceeds the number of arrests for
violent crimes and burglaries. The main goal to keep in mind is that we should try to find a way
to cut back on how guns are used illegally. Wilson says that one way to cut back on the illegal
gun use and gun carrying is to have the police frisk people. The fourth amendment clearly bans
all ?unreasonable searches and seizures?, but the police can get around this, if they have
?reasonable suspicion?. Who is to say their suspicion is any more different than ours? Just
because they think their more knowledgeable in deciding if something is wrong. Wilson tells us
that the police have certain codes which must be followed in order to make an arrest or to frisk
someone. People who flee at the approach of an officer, a person who fits a drug carrier profile,
a motorist stopped for a traffic violation who has a suspicious bulge in his pocket, a suspect
identified by a reliable informant carrying a hand gun. Who to say that these codes are even good

The Rise And Fall Of Al Capone
The Rise and Fall of Al Capone
Katharine Sexton
California Baptist University
Abstract
In a time when the American Society for the Promotion of Temperance was trying to bring about
change for the moral good of the country. Their intentions were taken advantage of and twisted into
a multimillion dollar industry. That would give birth to one of the largest organized crime
syndications, as well as to the rise of a man who for short time would control the largest organized
crime syndications in the country, and his own bravado would bring him to his knees.
The Rise and Fall of Al Capone
(Sandbrook, 2012) states in an age when individual freedom is all, it comes as something as a
shock to reflect that in the world s most prosperous and dynamic country the prohibition of alcohol
lasted for almost fourteen years. During this time, it allowed the gangs of Chicago to assert the
influence and power on not only the people but politicians and the government. It also created a
cultural identity, we celebrate these individuals in movies and song. When they should be
vilified for the horrible blood baths that were so public and out of control. It seems that not only
did Al Capone and his men have no problem with breaking the law by murdering anyone who got
in his way, but he broke the word of God by not obeying one of the simplest of commandments.
Thou shalt not kill Exodus 20:13 (Holy Bible, 1998).

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a major public health problem worldwide that accounts for
significant morbidity and mortality. About one third of the world s population have serological

The clinical evolution of HBV is variable, ranging from mild liver disease to fulminant hepatitis,
cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma (Kennedy and Alexopoulos,

He formed his own political party, the Bolsheviks, a split off of the earlier Marxists. Unlike other
parties of his time, Lenin limited membership to a small number of full time revolutionaries
(Haney 41). This dedication and tight organization later proved both useful and effective. From
1897 to 1917, he traveled all over Europe writing propaganda, organizing strikes, and encouraging
revolution among the working class, especially in Russia (Lenin, V.I. 191). Lenin knew what he
wanted, knew how to get it, and was willing to wait.
During World War I, the time was right and Lenin was the man. Czar Nicholas IIremained totally
focused on winning the war, and did not hesitate before committing more men and supplies to the
war effort(Haney 65). But for an already starving country, every train that brought supplies to the
front could not also be bringing food to peasants. With public sentiment and even the Czar s own
army against him, Nicholas abdicated the throne in March of 1917 (69). A government by soviets
(councils) was instated, but did not last long. After that, Alexander Kerensky seized power. In
November, Lenin and his Bolsheviks, with help from armed citizens, stopped the revolving door.
They took over St. Petersburg (then Petrograd) and later captured Moscow, meeting little resistance
along the way (Jantzen 613). Lenin took over the government and signed a treaty with Germany to

Essay on Organizational Behavior in Criminal Justice
Organizational Behavior in Criminal Justice
CJA/510
January 10, 2011
Brian Robinson Organizational behavior in a criminal justice agency is the way in which
employees and their superiors interact amongst themselves and with one another both positively
and negatively. Organizational behavior itself is the study of social conduct as it relates to the
confines of a specific group. It is the study of how an individual or group interacts with one another
and the dynamics of the personal relationships that evolve from that contact (Duan, Lam, Chen,

Importance of human capital: A dynamic and complex environment poses continuous challenges;
sustained success is earned through knowledge, experience, and commitments of people as valuable
human assets of organizations (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2008, para. 14). The workforce is the
heart of a criminal justice agency. It should be the single most cherished asset. The appreciation of
experience by an organization is vital. But more importantly the recognition, respect, and aspiration
by new members and seasoned is a must. This necessity recognizes a clear chain of command and
model of training.
Demise of command and control: Traditional hierarchical structures are proving incapable of
handling new environmental pressures and demands; they are being replaced by flexible
structures and participatory work settings that fully value human capital (Schermerhorn, Hunt,
Osborn, 2008, para. 14). Shared responsibility and the extinction of the because it has always
been done that way is a requirement in the modern criminal justice agency. It is being replaced by
the attitude that the old way is not always the best way, and we all have a lot to learn from one
another. While command still flows in one direction; ideas can come from anywhere.
Emphasis on teamwork: Organizations today are less vertical and more horizontal in focus; driven
by complex environments and customer demands, work is increasingly team based with a focus on

Argumentative Essay On Learning And Learning
Children can learn about the world through reading material, whether that instruction is intended or
not by the author, and whether the instruction is overt or relatively hidden. From cautionary, moral
tales of old to modern problem novels and books for children about life issues, authors show and
explain the world to the next generation. Matilda grew up in a family, where they did not value
education or learning. While her parents went to work, she stayed home and was expected to
watch TV or do nothing. Instead, she walked to the library and read books everyday. She learned
many things from reading and begged her father if she could attend school like other kids her
age. She read about history, law and many other educational topics that she could be learning if
she was in school. Children are sponges for information around them. Children gather this
information from a variety of sources, such as family, peers, and experience. In Matilda s case, she
learned the most from literature and Miss Honey. Her parents did not encourage learning and her

German Blitzkreig
The Blitzkrieg was one of the most powerful weapons in World War II. Hitler used it to quickly
defeat whole countries in a matter of weeks, before any defenses could even be thought of, much
less deployed. Poland, Norway, and Belgium all fell before Britain had time to defend them. Later
on, after D Day, when the allies had massed great amounts of troops and combat weapons in
France, the allies started there own blitzkrieg which quickly pushed the Germans back to the
Rhine River at a rate of 40 miles per day. The blitzkrieg at the beginning of the war doomed Hitler

The paratroopers then held the airfields until cargo planes of infantry could land and make the
airfield their own. Hitler would utilize this new improvement in warfare in his blitzkrieg over and
over again. The allies also adopted it for their own use. The allies used paratroopers in almost all
major operations, including D Day. Next came the German Blitzkrieg in France. On May 10, 1940
the Germans attacked Belgium and the Netherlands to surpass the Maginot line. However, the
main attack came through the supposedly impassable Ardennes Forest. In two days, May 13 to
15, the Germans forced two crossings of the Meuse River and tore a 50 mile gap in the French
front. On June 10, Italy entered the war on Germanys side and attacked France in the South. On
June 14, the Germans entered Paris, and on June 22, France surrendered to Germany. All of
Europe was now under German control, or German Allies control. They had taken Poland,
France, Norway, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and the Balkans, all using blitzkrieg
tactics. Nobody up to this point had ever had enough time to set up a defense to truly test the
German Army, and Hitler s only way of war. By this point in the war, Hitler was so confident in
his blitzkrieg tactics, that his next move was to use blitzkrieg tactics on Soviet Russia, and
attempt an air blitzkrieg on Britain. By June of 1941 Hitler s confidence was booming. His

Freezing Point Depression Lab Report
Introduction
Molar mass is a fundamental quantity of chemistry. There are multiple ways to find the molar
mass of a substance experimentally; one way is to use Freezing Point Depression by using the
following equation: О”T= kf*m (Robinson, 2018). The purpose of this lab was to do just that;
measure the freezing point depression of a solution when a solute is added to a solvent, and from
that, determine the molar mass of an unknown substance, along with learning about the influence
that solutes have on liquid properties. A concept of importance to this experiment is freezing point.

Colligative properties, such as boiling point and freezing point, are dependent on the amount of
solutes added, not necessarily their identities (LibreTexts, 2018). A fascinating concept related
to freezing points is Supercooling. Supercooling is a state where liquids do not form ice even
when they reach temperatures below their normal freezing point; they are trapped in a
metastable state (Esrf.eu, 2018). The best example of this is clouds at high altitudes: they
contain tiny droplets of water that do not have seed crystals, and therefore do not form ice
despite the low temperatures (Esrf.eu, 2018). The concept of freezing point depression is
applicable in many parts of everyday life. The most common example of freezing point
depression is in the salting of roads when it snows (Kimbrough, 2006). As the melting of the first
flakes on the warm road occurs, a solution of salty water is created which has a lower freezing
point than pure snow (Kimbrough, 2006). Now, the temperature will not get cold enough to freeze
the salty solution the way it can freeze water, keeping ice and snow from bonding to the pavement
(Kimbrough, 2006). In this lab, the freezing point depression was calculated experimentally by
adding an unknown solute to Lauric Acid,

point it would have been a better idea to save face and agree to the general terms of the letter of

Student Loan Debt And Consumer Choice
Student Loan Debt and Consumer Choice In today s society, student loans are haunting the lives of
millions of postgraduates all over the United States. Students who have carelessly taken out loans
and those in serious need of financial aid for their college education are now burdened with
thousands of dollars worth of debt. As the student debt average continues to increase in our nation,
the budgets of postgraduates begin to dwindle and the amount of defaults grow dramatically. With
the large student debts our young adults are now dealt with, recent graduates are forced to
compromise certain aspects of their quality and standard of living after graduation. Our nation s
recent graduate s budgets are being directly affected by the student loandebt and interest accrued
during and after their college careers. Student loans are a form of financial aid given by federal
and private organizations designed to help fund the student s tuition, housing, books, and other
expenses. Student loans are primarily given to those who are in most need of financial assistance.
The interest rates that accompany these loans are relatively lower than those of credit cards,
housing and auto loans, because these loans were meant to be quickly and easily paid off. With
federal interest rates fixed at as low as five percent and private loan interest rates decreasing, it
comes to question: why is the amount of student loan debt in our nation increasing so rapidly? And

Public Schools Should Not Be The Place For Religious...
One of the many foundations of the United States as a nation was religion. When people fled their
homes in search of a new place, one of the many reasons was due to religious freedom. Almost
immediately conflicts arose between religions, and their belief systems. No problems seem to arise
with teaching religionto children in school until the 1900 s. That is when the courts decided
religious instructions in public schools would be deemed unconstitutional. Court cases started
around the country with people fighting against religious instruction in public schools, many
accusing teachers of putting their beliefs in their teachings. The young, and impressionable
minds of children should not be exposed to another persons religious beliefs because they can
easily be swayed in a certain direction. This is why religious practices, such as prayer, and the
teachings of creationism should not be allowed in public schools. Public schools should not be
the place for religious practices for many reasons. Firstly, there a several different ways in which
having those practices in public schools goes against the Constitution, and the Establishment
Clause, which does not allow public schools to endorse any religion. Secondly, as children are
minors in age, so are their minds. Children can easily be swayed in a certain direction if they
witness an authority figure expressing a certain belief. Having religious practices in public schools
also goes against many science classes with the

Americans After Reconstruction
Over 150 years ago, the slaves were proclaimed free by President Lincoln. However many people
even today still consider the african americans under the bindings of slavery and barred from
true freedom. The african american slaves were brought to America while it was still being
colonized to replace the rather expensive indentured servants. They were sold into slavery to
carry out often harsh chores and tasks for their owner. Eventually, a civil war broke out between
the north and south over the south not wanting slavery to be abolished. However, the south lost
and President Lincoln established the Emancipation Proclamation, which completely freed the
slaves. The period following the civil war, known as reconstruction, was a failure due to the fact
that the newly freed slaves still experienced inequality, racism, and exclusion. Even though the
african americans were completely freed from slavery, they still had to face many hardships such
as inequality. An example of this appears in a labor contract from 1886 when it mainly discusses
the chores and tasks of a black man while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A piece of evidence that displays this issue is from the Louisiana Law of 1865. It states, Every
negro is required to be in the regular service of some white person, or former owner, who shall
be held responsible for the conduct of the said negro. This shows how the african americans
were still considered slavery and barred from any freedom. One other documentation of racism is
a political cartoon from 1868 showing three white men stepping on a black man captioned, This is
a White Man s Government. The cartoon describes how white men felt it was wrong to have free
african americans and that they shouldn t be apart of american culture. This evidence shows how
racism was a still a huge issue that the african americans still had to face even after finding

The Downside of War in Kurt Vonnegut Jr. s Slaughter...
The Downside of War in Kurt Vonnegut Jr. s Slaughter House Five
Many people view soldiers in war to have nothing more than a duty that they must perform; so
they see war as being outrageous or ridiculous. In the novel Slaughter House Five (1968),written
by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Billy Pilgrim, who is a soldier in World War II, is captured and becomes a
prisoner of war. Billy is seen as the protagonist. He is moved to various prison camps until he
finally ends up in Dresden. Dresden is bombed and leads to the freedom of Billy Pilgrim. The
novel is written in the 1960 s, and therefore, the story is told with flashbacks of the war. There are
also other time changes in the novel when Billy is time warped to the planet Tralfamadore by the ...

Kurt Vonnegutuses Billy Pilgrim as the anti hero of the novel to show the books anti war point of
view.
An anti hero is the protagonist of a book that is the opposite of the hero. They are graceless and
sometimes stupid. Billy Pilgrim portrays is anti hero trait and the anti war point of view when
Vonnegut writes, He had been saving Billy s life for days (34). Vonnegut is telling how Roland
Weary, who hates Billy, has to save him over and over again because he is to stupid to save
himself. Also, war is seen as ridiculous because Weary who doesn t even like Billy risks his life to
save him just because of his duty to do so.
Specific parts of the book add to the anti warism that it contains. One of these parts is when
Vonnegut writes, Above all, he wanted to be avenged, so he said again and again the name of the
person who had killed him (79). This part of the novel is telling about the death of Roland Weary.
He told everyone that Billy was responsible for his death. The soldiers should have been fighting
the opposition in the war instead of their own countrymen.
For many people war has made them mentally unstable. One of these people is Billy Pilgrim. He
thinks that he is abducted by aliens that transport him to the planet of Tralfamadore. He learns
things about life from the Tralfamadorians and they learn things from him. He is transported many
times throughout the novel. One of these time travels is

residents. As contrast to ABC organisation, the ration of caregivers to resident is, one caregiver
to six residents and another six residents shared by two caregivers (Personal Communication,

The Impact Of Television On The Australian Economy
Introduction:
The television industry is one of the most rapidly changing media industries to date. Its evolution
from black and white, to colour, to digital and now three dimensional viewing, there is nothing slow
about its development. Focusing particularly on commercial free to air (FTA) television, the FTA
television industry plays a critical role in the Australian ecosystem. Due to its free delivery, it
generates $3.2 billion per annum in economic and advertising surplus (Venture Consulting, 2015).
This is why the value of commercial FTA television to the Australian public remains high whereby
FTA television is watched by more than 14 million Australians daily (Free TV Australia
, 2014).
However, television nowadays is much more than a medium of entertainment and information. It is
also used as a method for engaging in social interaction (Morely, 1986, p. 22), and this digital
divide of interaction is what harms the television industry. The launch of streaming services not
only confronts the traditional linear TV format by allowing users to select what they want to watch
and when they want it, it also broadens the offering to almost any device (Spooner, 2015). The
research methods in the television industry despite its strength as a medium, must however, walk
hand in hand with the fast progression of new technology and challenge the rise of digital
omnivores.
What research has been done:
There is no doubt that the average Australian household has a variety of

Automated Customer Service Essay
Automated Customer Service: Advantages Outweigh Disadvantages
The marketplace in the world today is more competitive than ever before. Businesses are trying to
increase profits and lower operating costs. Stockholders are insisting that companies make money,
thus increasing their stock portfolios. Consumers are busier than at any point in the history of man.
They work longer hours and try to squeeze more extracurricular activities into their evenings. Into
this arena has come the automated customer service system.
Automated customer service has brought many advantages to today s businessmen and consumer
alike. It has decreased consumer waiting times, enabled businesses to lower operating costs, and
eliminated the middleman. While it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s all gone away with the automated attendant. A few clicks of the button and the consumer has
accessed their account, completed their transaction, or received the information needed. For those
instances when a correction is needed or an error has been identified, most legitimate businesses
have included an option that allows the consumer to speak with an operator. This enables the
consumer the best of both worlds. Those who prefer to speak to a living breathing person have that
ability, while those who wish to have the capability of conducting their transaction without human
interference have their prayers answered.
In an increasingly fast paced world the automated customer servant can be a godsend. Yes, there
are problems with the system. There are bugs that through new technology and innovation will
hopefully be worked out. How many people thought the first automobile was nothing more than a
confounded contraption that was just as likely to blow up on you as get you where you wanted
to go? I would imagine there were thousands, even millions of people who felt this way. We live
in an imperfect world and in this imperfect world no new innovations are error free, and it is a
given that most people resist change. However, with most people looking for ways to save time so
that they can squeeze in that thirty minute workout or make it to their oldest sons baseball game,
the automated attendant innovation is one of the best options available. In

Loyalists Dbq Essay
The American Revolution was the revolution of the American colonies against Britain, it s
mother country. The Continental Congress, a group of delegates from each colony, voted in
favor of the Revolution on July 1st, 1776. They were tired of Britain taxing them and not treating
them as proper citizens of Britain, and decided to break away from Britain and emerge as an
independent country. There are few reasons that colonists would choose the Patriot side or choose
the Loyalist side during the Revolutionary War. 2 reasons for colonists to support Britain is that
Britain had the upper hand militarily and financially, and the Patriots were acting barbaric towards
a loyalist just because he supported King George. 2 reasons for a colonist to support the Patriots
are because the British were using violence and being corrupt towards the colonies and the colonists

In Document 2: A Loyalist is Tarred and Feathered (1774) it says that He (Malcolm) was dragged in
a cart with thousands taking part, some beating clubs... Under torture, they demanded him to curse
the King. The author of this document attempts to defame the patriots, portraying them as brutes
who beat innocent old men. Both Document 4: A comparison of Strength (1775 1783) and
Document 8: Value of Trade with England(1763 1781) state that Britain has the upper hand of the
war. Document 4 shows that the British are financially and militarily superior, and Document 8
shows the lack of trade between America and England, thus implying that the colonists lost their
primary source of resources, Britain. These documents prove why colonists might become loyalists
by explaining the position of each side in the war and reasoning that one side(the British side) has
a better chance to win, and also by defaming the

Examples Of Marxism In Fight Club
The novel Fight Club is a complicated violent novel. It contains a lot of meaningful things about
psychological aspects. According to the article Is Tyler Durden a Marxist? , Goodman states that
this novels is a character study in schizophrenia. It s true because the main character of the novel
is a multi personality person, the nameless narrator. When he sleeps, he is Tyler Durden, a total
different personality man, a Marxist s representative. When he wakes up, he is him. Ideologies of
Marxism are expressed by Tyler s words such as religion, class struggles, and consumerism. Along
with Marxism, the psychoanalytic criticisms of Sigmund Freud such as displacement, dream and
the meaning of death are also expressed in this novel. Most responses... Show more content on

He represents for the narrator s dream of freedom. Today, the modern world is characterized by
three big C : Consumerism, Corporatism, and Capitalism. These three C mechanize people, and
push them into a chain of exploitation unconsciously. The workers received money from the
bosses for their labor. Then, the workers use for shopping. Quickly, the money is back to the
bosses. Despite of being surrounded by innumerable valuable things, the workers lived
meaningless lives: an endless loop, unable to escape. The narrator realizes it, and finds bored
with his life. He wants to escape the endless loop, he wants to be freedom, but no hope. The
narrator just only has that in his dream. In the novel, Tyler works for himself; he invents Fight
Club, and then Project Mayhem in order to create classless society (Tyson, 51). Therefore, we can
conclude that Tyler represents for the narrator s dream. It also explains why Tyler just only appears
when the narrator is asleep. Dream and Dream Symbols are expressed very clearly through the

Uninsured Insurance
Car owners are required to carry insurance, to be used in the event of a loss. What this means is
that when you are involved in an accident, you can look to the insurance provider of the negligent
driver to make you whole again. Unfortunately, not everyone has the required coverage, which can
leave you holding the bag for expenses associated with an accident. In order to avoid this possibility,
don t leave home without adding uninsured/underinsured coverage to your policy.
The benefit to having this coverage is that if you are hit by an uninsured or underinsured driver, or
are the victim of a hit and run, you still have coverage available to cover the costs of personal
injuries. Of course your insurance company will want to conduct an investigation of the accident
before paying a claim, which is why you should partner with a skilled personal injury attorney to
protect your interests. To assist with the investigation, it is crucial that you act to preserve the
evidence. You can do this by taking down what insurance information the other driver does have,
taking photos, and getting the names and contact information of all witnesses. Taking these steps
will help prove your case, and may speed up the time it takes to receive compensation. ... Show

How did they prepare the food? The Union soldiers and the Confederate soldiers had a fairly
same diet, but they also had some foods different because of the area they lived in. Whichever
side you are on you had to cook your meals on hot stones or by an exposed fire. If you were with
the Union you had a few different things to eat. You could have some meats like salted pork,
bacon, or salted beef. You could also have hardtack, crackers made from flour, salt, and water.
Flour and cornmeal are some more common things to eat as well. Molasses, salt, pepper, sugar,
rice, dried beans/peas, dehydrated vegetable cakes , milk, coffee, and tea were some things not as
many people had, but they were also a choice. Some of the things that the Confederates had to eat
the same as the Union would include meat and cornmeal. Dried peas were another thing quite
common for them. Some things you would need to be lucky for to have includes: molasses,

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Wrongful Birth When discussing wrongful birth, life and conception, one must first understand the method of sterilization. Sterilization is defined as a person terminating the ability to produce offspring (Pozgar, 2013). Procedures are carried out to males or females to produce successful sterilization. These procedures are normally completed voluntarily, however there have been circumstances which sterilization can be performed without consent. The debate of wrongful birth, wrongful life and wrongful conception is due to improper or ineffective sterilization procedures (Pozgar, 2013). This has resulted in legal rulings and a determination of damages by the court system. Wrongful birth is explained as a child would not have been born had the proper sterilization technique occurred (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful birth may have legal implications when genetic defects are present at the birth of the child. In addition, there has been legal debate when physicians have failed to inform patients on congenital abnormalities when prescribing certain contraception for females (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful life is described as a claim of a child or parent suffered harm as result of a birth of a child (Pozgar, 2013). Legal implications include healthcare providers failure to inform parents of potential genetic or congenital abnormalities thus preventing parent s decision to terminate the pregnancy. However, there is no precedent for a legal right not to be born, and wrongful life arguments are mostly unsuccessful (Pozgar, 2013). Wrongful conception has legal implications in the form of damages sought by parents related to a birth after an ineffective sterilization procedure. Parents seek out a court ruling to place a monetary value on a myriad of items like pain and suffering associated with birth, lost wages, and emotional or psychological pain (Pozgar, 2013). In result, Saint Sebastian was one of numerous victims during Rome s persecutions. Saint Sebastian was born a noble and a man of Gallia Narbonensis, a province north of the Alps of what is now southern France. Narbonensis was world renowned for its trading and liquidity to ports. On the other hand, Narbonensis was a tactical masterpiece for the Romans as it worked as a territorial defense for Gallic attacks on Italy. SaintSebastian has two different feast days depending on the denomination of Christianity(January 20 for Catholicism and December 18 for Eastern Orthodox). The Catholic Church sets aside one date out of the year for every canonized saint. The saints are remembered for all of their accomplishments in their lifetime along with dedicated prayers, mentions, and scripture reading. This is undoubtedly parallel to a panegyric for each and every saint. In 286 AD it was discovered that Saint Sebastian was in fact a Christian, following this epiphany, Sebastian was handed over to Mauretanian archers where they pierced his epidermis was punctured by arrows. Post arrow assault, Sebastian was nurtured back into good health by Saint Irene, but he was finally eradicated by way of clubs in 288 AD, in Rome. In the beginning of the book, Cal, as he likes to be referred to as, tells us about his condition. Cal has a 5 Alpha Reductase pseudohermaphrodite which is, simply put, a condition that affects the sexual development of males before the birth of the child and also during puberty. In Middlesex, incestuous marriages were secretly accepted among the villagers which resulted in Cal being conceived by cousins. Before Cal s birth, the tradition of his family was genderprediction by his grandmother, Desdemona Stephanides. It seemed to be a traditional thing for the family from the Greek roots. When it was time to predict Tessie s, Cal s mother, baby, Desdemona declared that the child would be a boy. Milton, Cal s father, disagreed because there was no way the baby could be a boy scientifically. This could also be based on the fact that Tessie and Milton wanted a baby girl. Until the age of sixteen, Cal was raised as a girl even though he had a male brain biologically. The fact that Calliope was a child of incest was a huge factor on why he was born with the condition he was born with. 5 Alpha Reductace, as stated earlier, is a condition in which people are born male but their bodies fail to produce enough dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In fact, pessimism can even become an important strategy to deal with anxiety. Individuals can use negative thinking as a defensive strategy to work through their anxiety with the result being just as effective as those who take an optimistic approach (Chang Norem, 2002; as cited in La Torre, p. 153). In a true clinical setting, a patient is free to express feelings and experiences to facilitate self healing through positive intervention techniques. With the data available on positive psychology, many clinicians may be tempted to utilize a particular positive intervention with the belief it will make a tremendous impact on the patient. However, this may be unhealthy for the patient who may need to experience negative or difficult emotion to work through the issue they are dealing with. Nonetheless, positive therapy has a definitive useful role in psychological treatment and adds a deeper dimension to the treatment setting (p. 404). Therapists who use this type of therapy, however, should remember not to become a slave to the tyrannies of optimism (Seligman, 1990, p. 292; as cited in La Torre, p. 404). James Wilson gives a more factual, organizational and better language used argument than Judy Brady. In I Want a Wife Brady is stereotypical of what she believes to be the roles of the husband and wife. Also Brady s essay is one sided, she never states a side that would argue her viewpoint. While Wilson shows two clearly stated sides of his argument. The first reason as to why ?Just Take Away Their Guns? is more effective is because the essay has more specifics and facts that can?t be refutable. If his number is correct, Wilson states that the number of people who defend themselves with a gun exceeds the number of arrests for violent crimes and burglaries. The main goal to keep in mind is that we should try to find a way to cut back on how guns are used illegally. Wilson says that one way to cut back on the illegal gun use and gun carrying is to have the police frisk people. The fourth amendment clearly bans all ?unreasonable searches and seizures?, but the police can get around this, if they have ?reasonable suspicion?. Who is to say their suspicion is any more different than ours? Just because they think their more knowledgeable in deciding if something is wrong. The Rise And Fall Of Al Capone The Rise and Fall of Al Capone Katharine Sexton California Baptist University Abstract In a time when the American Society for the Promotion of Temperance was trying to bring about change for the moral good of the country. Their intentions were taken advantage of and twisted into a multimillion dollar industry. That would give birth to one of the largest organized crime syndications, as well as to the rise of a man who for short time would control the largest organized crime syndications in the country, and his own bravado would bring him to his knees. The Rise and Fall of Al Capone (Sandbrook, 2012) states in an age when individual freedom is all, it comes as something as a shock to reflect that in the world s most prosperous and dynamic country the prohibition of alcohol lasted for almost fourteen years. During this time, it allowed the gangs of Chicago to assert the influence and power on not only the people but politicians and the government. It also created a cultural identity, we celebrate these individuals in movies and song. When they should be vilified for the horrible blood baths that were so public and out of control. It seems that not only did Al Capone and his men have no problem with breaking the law by murdering anyone who got in his way, but he broke the word of God by not obeying one of the simplest of commandments. Essay on Organizational Behavior in Criminal Justice Organizational Behavior in Criminal Justice CJA/510 January 10, 2011 Brian Robinson Organizational behavior in a criminal justice agency is the way in which employees and their superiors interact amongst themselves and with one another both positively and negatively. Organizational behavior itself is the study of social conduct as it relates to the confines of a specific group. It is the study of how an individual or group interacts with one another and the dynamics of the personal relationships that evolve from that contact (Duan, Lam, Chen, Zhong, 2010). The shifting paradigm trends describe by Schermerhorn, Hunt, and Osborn (2008) can be used to delve further into the understanding of the organizational behavior that exists ... Importance of human capital: A dynamic and complex environment poses continuous challenges; sustained success is earned through knowledge, experience, and commitments of people as valuable human assets of organizations (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2008, para. 14). The workforce is the heart of a criminal justice agency. It should be the single most cherished asset. The appreciation of experience by an organization is vital. But more importantly the recognition, respect, and aspiration by new members and seasoned is a must. This necessity recognizes a clear chain of command and model of training. Demise of command and control: Traditional hierarchical structures are proving incapable of handling new environmental pressures and demands; they are being replaced by flexible structures and participatory work settings that fully value human capital (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2008, para. 14). Shared responsibility and the extinction of the because it has always been done that way is a requirement in the modern criminal justice agency. It is being replaced by the attitude that the old way is not always the best way, and we all have a lot to learn from one another. While command still flows in one direction; ideas can come from anywhere. Argumentative Essay On Learning And Learning Children can learn about the world through reading material, whether that instruction is intended or not by the author, and whether the instruction is overt or relatively hidden. From cautionary, moral tales of old to modern problem novels and books for children about life issues, authors show and explain the world to the next generation. Matilda grew up in a family, where they did not value education or learning. While her parents went to work, she stayed home and was expected to watch TV or do nothing. Instead, she walked to the library and read books everyday. She learned many things from reading and begged her father if she could attend school like other kids her age. She read about history, law and many other educational topics that she could be learning if she was in school. Children are sponges for information around them. Children gather this information from a variety of sources, such as family, peers, and experience. In Matilda s case, she learned the most from literature and Miss Honey. Colligative properties, such as boiling point and freezing point, are dependent on the amount of solutes added, not necessarily their identities (LibreTexts, 2018). A fascinating concept related to freezing points is Supercooling. Supercooling is a state where liquids do not form ice even when they reach temperatures below their normal freezing point; they are trapped in a metastable state (Esrf.eu, 2018). The best example of this is clouds at high altitudes: they contain tiny droplets of water that do not have seed crystals, and therefore do not form ice despite the low temperatures (Esrf.eu, 2018). The concept of freezing point depression is applicable in many parts of everyday life. The most common example of freezing point depression is in the salting of roads when it snows (Kimbrough, 2006). As the melting of the first flakes on the warm road occurs, a solution of salty water is created which has a lower freezing point than pure snow (Kimbrough, 2006). Now, the temperature will not get cold enough to freeze the salty solution the way it can freeze water, keeping ice and snow from bonding to the pavement (Kimbrough, 2006). When people fled their homes in search of a new place, one of the many reasons was due to religious freedom. Almost immediately conflicts arose between religions, and their belief systems. No problems seem to arise with teaching religionto children in school until the 1900 s. That is when the courts decided religious instructions in public schools would be deemed unconstitutional. Court cases started around the country with people fighting against religious instruction in public schools, many accusing teachers of putting their beliefs in their teachings. The young, and impressionable minds of children should not be exposed to another persons religious beliefs because they can easily be swayed in a certain direction. This is why religious practices, such as prayer, and the teachings of creationism should not be allowed in public schools. However many people even today still consider the african americans under the bindings of slavery and barred from true freedom. They were sold into slavery to carry out often harsh chores and tasks for their owner. Eventually, a civil war broke out between the north and south over the south not wanting slavery to be abolished. However, the south lost and President Lincoln established the Emancipation Proclamation, which completely freed the slaves. The period following the civil war, known as reconstruction, was a failure due to the fact that the newly freed slaves still experienced inequality, racism, and exclusion. It is also used as a method for engaging in social interaction (Morely, 1986, p. 22), and this digital divide of interaction is what harms the television industry. The launch of streaming services not only confronts the traditional linear TV format by allowing users to select what they want to watch and when they want it, it also broadens the offering to almost any device (Spooner, 2015).
