Schools that pay attention to transition and have an intentional transition plan see more success in increasing achievement and reducing retentions. Having an effective transition program contributes to developing a positive learning environment. Both sending and receiving schools need to work collaboratively with each other, and with families to provide ongoing support for students as they experience the transition to the middle grades.
Infant mortality is an issue that plagues the world. With the development of social media, many advocates for ending infant mortality are being labelled as "mom-shamers."

Daycare has both positive and negative effects on children's development. And the effects vary and depend on various factors. According to NICHD, over 70% of children are in child care arrangement because both of their parents are working. So if you're planning to send your baby to daycare, you must know the pros and cons of of a day care & also the criteria for choosing a good quality day care center. Check the slides here to know.
Protective factors are conditions in families and communities that, when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. These attributes serve as buffers, helping parents to find resources, supports, or coping strategies that allow them to parent effectively,

Outline
As you go through the presentation, you all will understand my purpose for conducting this professional development. I will provide a general overview of why following each step is imperative to closing the literacy gap. I will discuss how teaching resilience, building relationships, building culturally responsive classrooms, and RTI supports closing the literacy gap among young children. Finally, resources will be provided in order to support educators in closing the gap.

My Purpose
Advocating for young children should be a leader’s main priority to ensure that they become lifelong learners beyond the classroom. There are a plethora of ways to ensure success amongst young learners. Many leaders advocate for change in ways that they see as best or are passionate about. When someone is passionate about a particular change, they will do what is needed to promote change. I have always been passionate about closing the literacy gap amongst young readers. I have noticed that there is a major gap in literacy, especially in low economically challenged communities. I have taught second-grade EIP self-contained classrooms for years. Every year, I have heard from the administration that I should expect little to no growth from these students because they are too far behind or not capable of making real growth. I couldn’t believe what I heard because all children are capable of learning if given the necessary tools to succeed. Therefore, I am providing this professional development to give teachers tools for advocating for young children and supporting closing the literacy gap. This will hopefully change the mindset of all educators as well as administrators who believe children are just too far behind to catch up or able to learn.

It is often said that there is much similarity in adolescent and toddler development. In fact, some say that the toddler you had comes back as a teenager. Given what you have read about parenting the toddler (Week 3) and the adolescent (Week 5) describe at least one similarity and one difference and describe how parenting is both the same and different. Please note in your post the relevant developmental stages and how parents effectively meet them.
Parenting changes as children get older, offering new challenges to parents at home. School-age children spend more time away from home, and their interactions with others become increasingly complex. Parents maintain many of the same fundamental responsibilities with school-age children as they did with preschoolers. They need to continue to provide love and affection, to set age-appropriate rules and boundaries, and to support physical, cognitive and social development.
Topics to be covered include:
Normal physical, emotional and social development in during the elementary school and early teen years
Ways parents can support their child’s development during the elementary school and early teen years
Techniques to help parents maintain positive relationships with their adolescents as they become more independent and move toward adulthood
Techniques to help school-age children develop positive relationships with family and peers
Ways parents can promote healthy lifestyles with school age children
Effects of media use on children’s development
· Sleep
· Sleep helps attention, emotional well-being, and learning. Adequate sleep helps the body regulate its metabolic processes and weight control. Parents should establish a consistent bedtime schedule as well as bedtime routines to help children develop the habit of sleep. Parents who adopt positive and nurturing parenting styles support healthy sleep patterns in children.
· School-age children usually sleep independently; however, maintaining a normal bedtime routine is part of good sleep hygiene. Sleep hygiene includes a number of practices that support healthy sleep, like avoiding caffeine in the afternoon, having a cool, dark room, and a relaxing bedtime routine. For school-age children, this might involve a shower or bath, a snack, and reading time, either alone or with a parents. It is best to avoid screens, including smartphones and tablets, before bed.

CDC RECOMMENDATIONS
· The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2013) recommends that newborns sleep between 16–18 hours per day. A preschool-age child should sleep between 11–12 hours per day. It is recommended that school-age children get nine to 11 hours of sleep per night. There is some room for individual variation between children, with some managing well on eight hours and others needing 12 hours a night to feel well. If a child is consistently sleeping less than seven hours or more than.

· What is advocacy?
Advocacy is how we support our children. We as teachers give advice for our children or we listen. We let the children and families know that we believe in them and we will be there for them. Teachers, admin, staff can advocate for children as long as they are in school. Advocates are also trained people and they are not lawyers. One of their responsibility is to stay up to date with the regulations of the educational laws.

Its important to help the families because they might be vulnerable in society. We as teachers need to make sure our children and families are being heard. We as teachers need to make sure their wishes and views are being considered when it’s about their child or family. Its because we are helping the family make life decisions about their children and even their family life. Its also important to make sure we are not judging the family or having or our own personal opinions about what is going on when we are helping advocate for the family, we need to make sure we are stating the facts for the family.
· What is your role as an early childhood educator in making legislative changes?
Our role is to be able to email them or decide how to get a hold of them and let them know our questions, comments or suggestions on things that need to be changed, updated. We need to let them know so we can support our school, children, and families. It is our role as educators to stay aware of the laws. The Federal laws we need to make sure we are aware of the

· Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
With these laws and many more they need to hear from schools in the United States. The federal laws mean we need to address the issues. These issues usually involve infringement of the student’s rights and they are to protect the rights. The state laws depend on the state you are in. Our mission is to engage the students and their families in the learning process. We want to make learning fun and challenging for our children through the arts, and creative play. Each child is thought of as an individual so, we strive to meet their needs through lessons that are geared toward each child without making them feel different or separated from the other children in our care.
The assessment characteristic I will be using to focus on defining quality as a continuum is an ongoing assessment. The Early childhood Assessment is a tool I will be using as an ongoing assessment tool to collect information concerning each child for teachers, and the families of the children in my center. The information I gather will be used daily by myself, teachers, and parents to assess and assist children in the growth and develop process of each child, create a curriculum, set goals, and create an environment that is conducive for them cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally, and language wise. This assessment involves the teachers first observing the children and then documenting their findings. This assessment process will help us to run a more efficient and quality program for children and their families. By using this ongoing assessment tool we will be required to
· keep a record of each child’s growth and development
· specify the children that require extra support
· create an individualized plan for each child
· take note of their strengths and weaknesses
· ensure communication is strong between teachers, parents and other necessary staff members on a regular basis through home visits, parent conferences, and parent involvement activities in the center.

It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
