Work-based learning involves making work-related learning both conscious and deliberate by finding ways to apply new learning to improve work outcomes. It occurs through opportunities like work placements, mentoring, and instruction in workplace competencies, and can provide credit towards academic awards. The most important part of work-based learning is applying new skills and understandings gained to benefit individuals, work groups, and organizations.

1. Every day, in the normal course of work, we are learning. We solve problems, encounter new situations, and figure out ways to reapply the things we already know. 4. In what situations can it occur For both secondary and postsecondary students that provide opportunities to achieve employment-related competencies in the workplace. In conjunction with classroom or related learning, and may take the form of work placements, work experience, workplace mentoring, instruction in general workplace competencies, and broad instruction in all aspects of industry.

5. And.......... Learning gained from work experience that involves the development of programme content from work roles. Based on the principle that learning, wherever it takes place and provided that it can be assessed, can be used to provide credit towards the achievement of academic awards

6. And........ At the job site and would include job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, and cooperative work assignments.

7. And finally That which benefits the individual, the work group and the organisation. It is achieved mostly through work related activities and can be directly applied to improve current or future work outcomes.

8. VET Based Learning Since the 1990's work based learning has been the preferred model of staff development in the VET sector nationally. It embraces a range of different methodologies and techniques, including facilitation, mentoring, action learning and communities of practice.

9. The most critical element The true value of work based learning is realised from the application of the newly acquired skills or understandings.
