Description
Tearing Strength Testing
• Tear Strength :Tear Strength is the force required either to start or to
continue tear in a fabric under specific condition.
• Tearing Force: Tearing force is the avg. force required to continue tear
previously started in a fabric.
• Tearing resistance: Tearing resistance is one of the important
properties of a textile fabric. The tear strength of a fabric force indicates its
resistance to tearing.
Types of Tear Test
1. The Tongue Tear Test
2. The Tongue Double Tip
3. The Trapezoid Tear Test
4. The Ballistic Tear Test
5. The Ring Rip Tear Test
Method of Measuring Tongue Tear Test
The Tongue Double Rip Test
At First Cut the Specimen (6 inch /3inch)
The Specimen Making Template is placed on the
specimen & Cut with edge AD taught BC in folds
As the jaws separate the fabric tears starting
from the ¼ inch cut
The avg. strength is determined on five specimen
in Each direction.
Trapezoid Tear Test
Ballistic Tear Test
The Elmendorf Tear Test
 Cut the specimen 100mm/75mm
At the middle point of the specimen a 20 mm slit
is cut
Distance between end of the slit to opposite edge
is 43mm.pendulum lever mechanism is used.
The Elmendorf Tearing Tester
Bursting Strength Test
Types Bursting Test
Hydraulic Burst(Mullen Type)
Ball Burst (Required special attachment in the
tester)
