Nestle Global Strategy
Introduction International business has seen a significant surge over the past few decades.
Contemporarily, it is now commonplace for large businesses to operate in many countries and serve
many markets (Bird Mendenhall, 2015). Companies that operate in numerous countries while
providing the same services world wide as in their home country are called global organizations. An
example of one such global organization is Nestle. Nestle is a food and beverage company that
operates in every continent on the planet. They operate in 21 African countries, 26 North, South, and
Central American countries, 30 Asian countries, 33 European countries including their home country,
and six countries in Oceania. Nestle was founded 150 years ago in ... Show more content on

Trending Topics Upon researching the consumers perspectives about Nestle through social media
platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, it is evident that the trending topics related to Nestle are
regarding genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and the privatization of water. Genetically
modified organisms have been a nutrition topic of concern over the past decade. Despite scientific
consensus to the contrary, consumers remain concerned about potential health risks of consuming
genetically modified foods. The recent trending stories against Nestle are consumers that are
concerned with Nestle s stance on blocking GMO labeling laws. Likewise, consumers are also
distraught over the perception that Nestle is selling water. Many consumers feel as though access to
safe, sanitized water should be a human right and water should not be sold, but rather readily
accessible to everyone. Moreover, these customers believe that Nestle s participation in the sale of
water is immoral and inhumane and these customers may be choosing to purchase from other
companies who do not participate in the private sector vending of water.

born to Joseph Ruggles Wilson and Janet Woodrow Wilson. Joseph was a Presbyterian minister.
Woodrow was raised in the religion of Presbyterian because of his father. Most of Woodrow s early
schooling came from his father. He enrolled in Davidson College, North Carolina at the age of 17 in
1873. At the age of 19 he transferred to the College of New Jersey in 1875. That college later became
known as Princeton University. That same year, Woodrow registered in the law school of the

Smallpox Vaccination History
Throughout history, smallpox has been one of the dreaded scourges that inflicted mankind. World
Health Organization (WHO) stated that smallpox is responsible for the 300 million death cases
worldwide in the twentieth century. (Fenner, Henderson, Arita, Jezek , Ladnyi, 1988) (Plotkin, 2004) It
was only after Dr Edward Jenner s development on the principle of vaccination that provided the only
accurate technique for the prevention of smallpox. The introduction of vaccinia vaccine enabled the
global eradication of naturally occurring smallpox in 1970, it is recorded that the last known smallpox
case recorded was in Somalia after the eradication. (Rappuoli, Miller, Falkow, 2002) Jenner s
procedure has been a highly effective immunizing agent, however, it seemed that it isn t a successful
fighter to disease because it carries high incidence of adverse side effects and severe complications.

(Madigan, Martinko, Stahl , Clark, 2012) Unfortunately, the threat of the smallpox vaccination also
increased in individuals that have skin conditions such as eczema or atopic dermatitis (AD). The
vaccine is also not recommended for persons with heart disease, pregnant women and those with
immune systems compromised by immunosuppressive drugs or infections, as the live virus inoculum
might overwhelm the suppressed immune system. (Weiner, 2003)
About 1,000 people in every 1 million vaccinated for the first time experience serious reaction, though
not life threatening, while 14 and 52 people in every 1 million vaccinated for the first time
experienced life threatening reactions. In severe cases such as post vaccinal encephalitis (12 cases per
million) and progressive vaccinia (1.5 cases per million) can lead to death. (Plotkin,

Definition Of Effective Leadership And Leadership
Scripture has much to say in regards to leadership and those in positions of leadership. The Bible tells
us that leaders are to lead with integrity and values that govern the heart. So he shepherded them
according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with skillful hands. (Psalm 78:72 NKJV)
Unfortunately, that is not the practice of many in leadership, often leaders operate with a public set of
values that differs from that of their private life. The definition of effective leadership has changed
from character driven leadership to results oriented leadership and is now determined by the results a
leader produces, as long as the leader is producing good results, the private life of a leader has no
bearing on the situation. (Rima, 2000) While it is true, that leaders can, for a time, engage in a quality
practice of leadership that differs from their personal life and produce positive results, eventually, the
destructive behaviors of their personal life will affect and influence their public life and may result in
failure and scandal.
The dangers of this dichotomy are leaders that are emotionally or psychologically unhealthy and the
end result is leaders that lack integrity and depth of character. The consequence of this philosophy is
failed businesses and churches, ineffective governments, broken marriages and families. This
disconnect between the public and private life has led to a major distrust and wariness of public
leaders. Rima believes that the root cause

Controlling, HR Management, Warehouse Management and Project System.
Fulfillment, Production and Warehouse management processes are concerned with goods movement
that triggers goods issue that will be further discussed.
Goods Issue
There are four types of goods movement types: goods receipt, goods issue, goods transfer and transfer
posting. Goods issue process plays a key role in fulfillment process (indicating a goods shipment to a
customer s sales order) and production (issuing of raw or semi finished materials to a production
order) and is triggered by warehouse management. Goods issue results in decrease of inventory levels.

Candidiasis And Diabetes
Candidiasis is a disease in which a fungal infection of the mucous membranes is found in the mouth
and throat. The organism may cause infections in other locations, such as nails, skin (diaper rash),
vagina, and the gastrointestinal tract. There are many types of fungus that live in the human body
including candida. Candida is a type of yeast that normally lives in small amounts in areas like your
mouth and belly, or skin without causing any issues. The immune system and the body s bacteria
usually keep Candida in balance. When this balance is interrupted, it can result in an overgrowth of
the Candida fungus, causing it to get infected. The infection is called Candidiasis. There are several
different types of candidiasis, such as Thrush (Oropharyngeal Candidiasis), Genital Yeast Infection
(Genital Candidiasis), Diaper Rash From Yeast Infection, and Invasive Candidiasis. ... Show more

Essay about Systems Theory
Systems approach is based on the fundamental principle that all aspects of a human problem should be
treated together in a rational manner (Healy, 2005). I have divided this essay into relevant sections that
cover an overview of systems ideas, general systems theory and ecological systems theory. This
assignment will also include Germain and Gittermans life model, and it will be related back to the
case study that has been provided. Limitations of systems theory will also be discussed.
Systems ideas is referring to three different types of systems, each created in a different era; general
systems theory, ecosystem perspectives and complex systems theory (Healy, 2005). Systems Ideas in
social work originated with general systems theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Healy stated the original proponents of general systems theory used biological terminology to explain
client needs, situations and the purpose of social work practice (2005). The term that is applied for
systems theory is for all systems in general. All systems have boundaries within which both physical
and mental energy is exchanged. There are two types of systems that this applies to. Closed systems
have no interchange across the boundaries whereas open systems have permeable boundaries or
guidelines but there is also some room for movement, within reason.
With the second wave of systems theory came about the idea of the ecological perspective, named
ecological systems theory. It is the combining of general systems theory with an ecological approach.
Ecological systems theory uses ideas that link together four different social systems that surround an
individual; these systems are known as, micro systems, meso systems, exo systems and macro systems
(Healy, 2005). The ecological model is used as a tool. These systems are very structured and use
certain processes as guideline. Different processing concepts are used in systems theory. These
concepts explain how the system works. Input is the energy being fed into the system across
boundaries. Throughput is how the energy is used within the system and output is the

Pros And Cons Of Obamacare
In Chapter four of Ten Letters , there is a letter to President Obama written by Natoma Canfield, a
woman whose health insurance became increasingly unaffordable after she survived cancer. After
receiving Natoma s letter, Obama often carried it with him as he spoke of the need to reform
healthcare to make it more affordable to those who needed it the most and to expand coverage to those
who could not get it. The Affordable Care Act, which came to be called Obamacare in the news media,
passed through both houses of congress without a single Republican vote in favor and was signed into
law by President Obama in March 2010. Obamacare aims to let citizens have their own health care
and to make health care more affordable. According to CNN, when ... Show more content on

the Senate instead of in the House of Representatives, and it was a rewriting of an old bill about
providing veterans with welfare which had been passed by the House. (CATO, October 2013) The
Majority Leader Harry Reid changed some contents of the old bill and added new provisions, so this
old bill became the Affordable Care Act. The process of passing Obamacare was therefore careless

Pulau Ubin Essay
Pulau Ubin is an island at the east of Singapore and often regarded as the last kampung village in the
country. Strolling through the roads of Ubin literally takes you back in time, back to the Singapore in
the 1960 s where life was so much simpler. Your adventure begins the moment you queue up for the

Ubin is a great place for you to stroll or cycle through rustic roads under coconut palms swaying in the
cool breeze, traversing shady trails in overgrown rubber plantations, surveying undisturbed beaches
and thriving mangroves. On Ubin, food is delicious, air is cooling and sights and sounds so refreshing
to the soul.

America with an absent father, an abusive brother and a distant mother. These stories show how

How Photography Affects The Social And Political Arena
Photography had been around more than 20 years before the Civil War began. When pictures were
taken, they showed colonels, bodies that were on the battlefield, even soldiers that were around the
camp tent. A few photographers that will be discussed are Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner, George
Barnard and Timothy O Sullivan. I will talk about how their photography affected the social and
political arena as well as how photography in contemporary society provides the public with an up
close testimony to recent wars and global strife.

In the social arena, Mathew Brady photographed people bringing them into his photography studio
and they were connected, for example, that is where Mathew Brady met his wife Juliette Handy.
Alexander Gardner worked for Mathew Brady as his assistant photographer. Although it was Brady s
name on most of the photographs, it was Gardner that took the photographs. When the Civil War
started, portrait photography s demand increased. Soldiers wanted to leave photographs and images
behind with their loved ones as they posed before going to war. (Group of officers at Headquarters

Alexander Gardner was more so known for his photographs of scenery instead of the troops. While he
worked with Mathew Brady that was his focus, but once he departed from Mathew, Alexander began
taking photographs of the scenes.
Other photographers took pictures of the troops and men during the Peninsula Campaign in Virginia,
but it was Alexander Gardner that took them of the scenery; which is how he affected the political

The Marbles And The Parthenon
For nearly 2500 years the Parthenon, located in Athens, Greece has manifested the ancient Greek
notions of justice, freedom and artistic excellence. One of the most well known artifacts that were
once on the Parthenon s exterior were the Elgin Marbles. These sacred marbles were crafted by the
well regarded Phidias, consisting of an extensive amount of Greek ideologies and exceptional artistic
impressions. The Elgin marbles were taken from the Parthenon by Lord Elgin and brought to Britain.

migrated artifacts, these individuals have grown to become well recognized artists and writers from
the influence of the Elgin marbles. (Hitchens, Christopher, Robert Browning, and Graham Binns. The

The Elgin marbles were anticipating 3 possible outcomes; destruction by natural causes, destruction
by war, or rescued by the British. Fortunately, the marbles were saved and guarded by the British,
preventing any possible destruction. Lord Elgin did not only legally retrieve the marbles but he had
entirely good intentions as he was clearly captivated by classical Greek design. At the time, Greece

in order to make mortar.(Sultan, Nancy, Illinois Wesleyan University. Should the Elgin Marbles be

Companion animals are the hosts for many different parasites. Animal parasitism is a way of life in

Several sub topics can be identified when discussing companion animals and their companion
parasites. One of which focuses particularly on dogs, what parasites they are susceptible to, how they
fall victim to these parasites, how to identify and treat them, which is the most common parasite to
dogs and can dogs pass their parasites to other animals or possibly even humans.
The most common parasite found in dogs is the roundworm (Ascaris Lumbricoides). Roundworm will
typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or after they are born when drinking
their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s milk the puppy is actually consuming larvae of the
parasite in the form of very small eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively. This means
that they will need to be consumed by the next host if transmitted to another dog. The dog could

Harriet Tubman And The Brave Rebel
Two of the most well known, moving women in history are Harriet Tubman, the slave freer, and Rosa
Parks, the brave rebel. Many people know about these two women, but have more than likely not
drawn a connection between the two of them. There are a few different areas that can help to develop
one s perception about the impact of these two women. As children these two women were raised to
be strong, independent, and influential. These childhoods led to their participation in two massively
important movements in American history. On top of all of these areas, an understanding of the
similarities and differences between the two can help one to realize the relationship that they share.
The last facet to the understanding of these historic leaders is to comprehend their involvement in
society and their movements at a detailed level. Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman are two highly
influential women in United States history who have some noticeable similarities and differences.
Harriet Tubman was born a slave around 1820 in Maryland. Even though she was given the name
Araminta by her primary owner, she decided to go against him and name herself after her mother,
Harriet Ross. Harriet never received an education because she was a slave, but she was recognized for
her usual strength and put into the field to work (Kranz and Koslow). In 1826 when Harriet was six
years old, just old enough to have a sense of family, she was sold to a woman with little money

Although there are advantages and disadvantages to both a representative government and deliberative
democracy the benefits are largely dependant on the context of policy making and whose interests are
being considered. A representative democracy is one that is currently in place across Australia and, for
the most part, the rest of the world whereby a group of representatives deliberate without unequal
distributions to power on behalf of the nations citizens by denoting their beliefs, attitudes and
perspectives. Recent and ongoing concerns regarding the self interested, bureaucratic nature of
government has lead to increased interest in a more classical deliberative form of democracy
particularly at the idea of public participation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument being that representative democracy allows for politically educated and aware elected
representatives, who have the resources and expertise, to make informed decisions. This views the
decision to allow the general public who may lack political awareness or inclination to make rational,
well considered judgments, incredibly detrimental as average citizens may not consider long term
solutions or may marginalise individuals and minorities. Begging other questions in regards to
whether elected officials should utilise their skill and knowledge to lead the public through more
informed decision that may be better for the greater good of the community by acting independently
or operate merely as relay mechanisms for the views of their constituents (Australian Politics 2010).
Some advocates of representative democracy acknowledge its limitations, but argue that deliberative
democracy is simple unfeasible in modern conditions. A direct government with high levels of
participation may be possible amongst relatively small communities, because personal communication
can take place between and amongst its citizens, however it is impractical and ineefgctive when it
comes to larger nations or states. The idea of consulting the general public on all issues, sanctioning
wide ranging discussion and debate, and holding mass meetings conducted in modern

What Caused The 981 Airplane Crash
March 3, 1974 a catastrophe occurred outside of Paris. Turkish Airlines flight 981 out of Paris
experienced a chain reaction of unfortunate events, that lead to the eventual crash of the plane, and the
complete fatality of every passenger on board the plane. The DC 10 aircraft, designed by the plane
company McDonnell Douglas, crashed in a forest 10 minutes after taking off from Paris. People who
have analyzed this accident, have looked into what caused this plane to crash and take the life of all
346 passengers on board? Among the analysts are three different types of accident theories that try to
explain why the plane crashed and how the crash could have been avoided and spared the life of
hundreds. The High Reliability Organization (HRO), Natural Accident Theory (NAT), and Social

10 minutes after take off the cargo door on the underside of the plane opened and got ripped off. The
cause for this was the locking pins that were supposed to lock in the latch on the plane locked, but the
latch had not latched onto the bar so the plane s cargo door was not locked and due to the g force on
the plane during takeoff and ascent into the sky the door was compromised. This event caused a chain
reaction of events to occur. After this happened the pressure from the outside acclimated with the
cargo bay which caused there to be too much of a pressure differential between the cargo bay and the
cabin. This caused the floor of the cabin to collapse, which then broke all three of the control cables.
With all the cables torn and broken the pilot lost control of the plane. The plane then crashed and
caused everyone on board to die. The overall crash of the DC 10 could have been avoided had specific
points of failure throughout the plane been fixed by an

Computer Input Technologies By Alan Turing
Computer Input Technologies
Introduction The interaction between humans and the machine is a relatively new science. When
considering how the inputs to a computer started out, it is interesting to observe just how little has
changed. For example, the QWERTY keyboard as part of the typewriter invented in the 1870s(2) far
predates the concept of the modern digital computer as described by Alan Turing in 1936(3). Our tools
to interact with our own machines have however been refined to be more convenient for the average
user with interfaces such as optimised USB and layout studied for ergonomy. In recent years, input
technologies have not only been improved but brand new ones have emerged like motion control for
example. The future is bright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, trackballs are still quite common as scrollwheels in computer mouse devices.
Interestingly, the invention of the computer ball mouse in 1968 sprang directly from the invention of
the trackball. In a sense, the ball mouse is a reversed version of the same device. The trackball rolls on
the surface instead of the user s hands, however the tracking operates in the same way(1). This
innovation in existing technology meant that the handheld type design would later be upgraded as
newer technologies took its place. Today, the ball mouse has been largely replaced by the optical and
laser mouse. These types of mouse devices use LEDs to emit light onto the surface on which it sits,
the reflected light is analysed by a set of photodiodes. Whether the mouse is laser or not depends on if
the LEDs emit coherent light (laser) or not (optical). The main drawback of the optical mouse is that
they only function on opaque and matte surfaces as they depend on the light reflecting the surfaces
imperfections. The precision however is much improved from the ball mouse. Furthermore, less
moving parts means more durability. The mouse really opened up the horizon for user interface
navigation making it a key turning point in the history of input technologies.

While remaining a superior global food company, Kellogg s management realized that they had to
have the strongest possible resources to support their business growth in a diverse and competitive
environment (Kellogg, 2009). Likewise, Starbucks is managing its competition challenges; the current
economic conditions are factors that Starbucks needs to consider in order to market the new products
to preserve its clientele and bring in new customers. Hence, Starbucks is wise to use the four P s
model; Price, Product, Place, and Promotion, to determine the course of action best suited to stay
ahead of the competition. To be clear, both Kellogg and Starbucks are managing the effects of
postmodernity; that is, postmodertnity describes our time and situation today s world in flux, with
people on the move who have learned to manage multiple identities depending on place and context
(Kottak Kozaitis, 2003, Ch. p. 29). To manage the influence of postmodernity within the context of
demographic factors, Kellogg and Starbucks are implementing strategic approaches to aid them in
their success involving global and cultural diversity. For example, Kellogg committed itself to
developing a comprehensive and ground breaking supplier diversity program. This program was to
cultivate strategic procurement relationships with W/MBE owned, controlled and operated

Max Weber Political Authority Essay
According to Max Weber in his work of politics as a Vocation , he states that political authority can be
broken up into three different types. He defines these three types as Traditional authority, charismatic
authority and rational legal authority. Charismatic authority comes from a person s special qualities
and ability to hold followers because of them. Charismatic individuals may use their authority over a
whole society or even just a specific group within a larger one. These individuals can use their
authority for good and sometimes bad. Some examples of these leaders can be: Adolf Hitler, Mahatma
Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. As you can see in the people who were listed, they all had
amazing personal qualities that led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This person could be anywhere from a child of the leader or someone the leader knows and trusts.
This in turn leaves a significant danger on the belief because the new leader may lack the required
ability to persuade the same followers. For reasons, Weber recognized that charismatic authority
ultimately becomes more stable when it in turn changes into a traditional or rational legal authority. A
way that a charismatic leader can transform into a traditional authority is by accepting their bloodline,
so that their authority passes to their children and then further down the line. Transformation into a
rational legal authority occurs when the society that they were leading would in turn develop rules and
a bureaucratic structure that is often partnered with a government. Weber defined this as routinization
of charisma.
When we compare this to democratic leaderships, the similarities tend to be that both give their
leaders a ton of responsibility, but with similarities comes its differences. Democratic leaderships
often require their individuals to have a high level of skills along with the will to work, the leaders are
also rational and deliberate. While charismatic leaders appeal to the emotions of the people around
them, and they are often seen as working towards the greater good.
Traditional authority is seen as power that is rooted in regular and long standing beliefs of society.
This authority is assigned to particular individuals because of the

Chemical Contamination In Marine Mammals
Abstract Dating back to the 1970s when people began to realize the toxic effects pollutants like PCBs
and DDT were having on all kinds of organisms, marine mammals came into focus as particularly
vulnerable and at risk for adverse health effects with exposure to these contaminants. Since then
researchers have worked to determine exactly what harm these animals are succumbing to. The
chemical properties of persistent organic pollutants along with the biomagnification of
organochlorines through the trophic levels and the bioaccumulation of these chemicals in the blubber
of marine mammals, explain why these animals are significantly affected by these hazardous
chemicals. Bioaccumulation can also explain important trends in PCBs and DDT concentrations ...

Marine mammals can live for decades and have large blubber layers that attract and store fat soluble
chemicals. They also feed at the top levels of long food chains and therefore act as and end point for
much of the accumulation in food webs (O Shea, 1999). This concept encompasses two major
principles of contamination in marine mammals: bioaccumulation and biomagnification. The latter is
described as the tendency of organochlorines to concentrate as they are moved up the trophic levels (O
Shea, 1999). An evaluation of the chemical contaminants found in marine mammals from Washington
state found that PCB concentrations in seal blubber were 110 times higher than levels found in their
fish prey in the Puget Sound, and 56 times higher than their fish prey in Hood Canal (Calambokidis et
al., 1984). Calambokidis et al. (1984) concludes there was a significant percentage of organochlorines
in fish prey being absorbed and stored by adult male seals. Biomagnification relates to the various
diets of marine mammals at different levels in a food chain. Odontocetes and pinnipeds who feed on
higher trophic levels such as fish, invertebrates, squid, and other marine mammals, tend to have higher
organochlorine concentrations than Mysticetes or low trophic level feeders (O Shea, 1999). A prime
example of this is comparing two eco types of Orcinus orca, transient and resident, from the Kenai
Fjords/Prince William Sound, AK region (Ylitalo et al., 2001). Although there are many distinctions
between these two groups such as habitat use, the main one is that transient killer whales are marine
mammal eaters and resident killer whales are fish eaters. This difference causes much higher
concentrations of organochlorines in transient killer whales than in resident groups, indicating species
who feed in higher trophic levels collect more organochlorines (Ylitalo et al., 2001). O Shea (1999)

Why Do Marine Animals Use Sign Language
Humans communicate by making sounds that are part of an entire language that can be spoken,
written, and read, using body language, and, in some cases, using sign language. Marine animals have
a slightly different approach, although they use sound to communicate as well. There are many things
that affect the messages marine animals send to each other. The main factors are the rate, pitch, and
structure of the sounds they make. Whales and dolphins can use echolocation to locate food and other
objects. Echolocation is the process in which an animal makes a sound and listens to see how long it
takes to make it be reflected back to them when it comes into contact with an object. This tells the
animals many things about the object, such as how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Salinity, temperature, and the depth of the water can affect the speed of sound in the ocean. The ways
in which humans and marine animals produce sound is very different. Humans produce sound by
expelling a lot of air over their vocal chords. Dolphins and other marine animals cannot afford to
waste such precious oxygen, so they have engineered other ways to accomplish this goal. Whales and
dolphins pass air through air sacs they have in their heads to produce noises. Some fish vibrate their
swim bladders, crustaceans close their claws at high speeds to make air bubbles that pop and produce
noise, and seals and sea lions move their larynx to produce growling sounds. Humans and marine
animals also hear noises differently. Humans can hear sounds when sound waves strike our ear drums,
causing bones in our ears to vibrate. This then makes the fluid in our inner ear vibrate, and vibrates the
hair cells as well. The hairs that are vibrating are connected to neurons that lead to the auditory nerve
and sends signals to our brain. Our brain then interprets the signals into information from the sound
waves. Dolphins and whales have a different process for interpreting sound. Their lower jaw, called a
mandible, carries sound to the bones in their middle ear and from there the vibrations follow the same
path as the human hearing

The Panorama Of A Lost Cause
The Panorama of a Lost Cause Through the eyes of Samuel Watkins, there are sights of horror,
dismay, and affirmations for one s beliefs. As sectional conflicts of the American Civil War, the views
of death in common soldiers, are transforming Watkins accounts depict that most soldiers were
prideful and willing to die for their side s beliefs, however, at the end of the day these men are still
dying. As the war grew on, so did the realizations of the horrors of battle. For the soldiers who were
immersed with the realisms of battle day in and day out, there was a sense that death even more
inevitable than ever before. It is clear from Watkin s accounts that men were ready to die for their
country on both sides, but especially the Confederates in the South. There was a belief in the rights of
Southern states. Most of these men knew they would die in battle, and they were prepared to do so.
One account of this is Watkins recollection of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. They were just
beginning to fight on June 27th, and Watkins said, We all knew it was but the dead calm that precedes
the storm, (Watkins, 130). He mentioned that during the nights you could hear the shrieks and screams
of poor fellows left on the field, (Watkins, 131). Those screams of pain foreshadowed the official
outcome for most soldiers. It was as if there was no chance they would survive the war. Even before
the battles began, some men would just surrcumb to the fact that they weren t

Large Scale Change in Business
The business model is a design for a successful operation in business, identifying revenue sources,
customer base, product and details of financing. It describes the method of how an organization or
company creates, deliver and capture values in economics, social and cultural contexts. The business
model may also be used by the company to generate revenue and make profits from the operations.
The module, therefore, includes the components and functions of a business.
Large scale change
Short term plans There are several factors that should be considered before starting a business. These
factors could be personal, social, environmental, cultural among others. Some of these factors include
changing one s standard of living, start up cost among other factors. The financial state of the
company must be considered before starting a business or expanding it to other places. At this stage,
one considers business loans from financial institutions. Such institutions could be banks, finance
brokers and other loan brokers putting into consideration there different interest rates. For the business
to succeed there must be a plan as to what business of instance a franchise, buying into an existing
business or starting a business from the bottom. Expanding business in some new areas always
requires good research and proper design making. In this case, for instance opening a jewelry shop in
Shangai china will need some research done, and it is, therefore, important to try it in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Patents
1. The market reward rationale for the patent system is based on the ability of patents to reduce
transaction costs and serve as a transferable asset, thereby allowing for inventor to control the supply
of the technology, and for the technology to maintain competitive pricing in the marketplace and
recover costs of invention. Specifically, a patent allows for disclosure which prevents inventors from
overlapping efforts or from keeping the technology a secret, thereby reducing transaction costs and
making it easier to work with interested parties. The transferability of the patented technology further
eases collaboration and commercialization efforts, allowing inventors work with appropriate

If a company creates a new drug to treat a certain disease, for example, they can get a patent for it and

3. The Ex post rationale focuses on the economic functions of patents after they are granted, claiming
that the patent system incentivizes the technology to be constructively utilized, enhanced, and
commercialized post patent. In particular, this rationale holds that patents improve economic
efficiency (i.e. by reducing transaction costs, allowing for transferability divisibility, promoting
collaboration), allowing for a more efficient marketplace, and promoting investments in the patented
technology due to the chance of large rewards in the marketplace in return. For example, the
University of Illinois develops a significant amount of patented technology, including the Dry Grind
Corn Milling Process. The patent on this technology signifies to investors and other interested parties

the fact that it was developed at a credited institution, initiating outside firms to invest in, enhance,

since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive and in good health.
Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much more meaningful to me.
That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day like it was yesterday. The date
was August 8th 2015 and this photo was taken at my grandparent s farm. It was so humid that I took
about three showers. I felt sticky and fussy just like a baby. Although my kids didn t feel the weather

My Son The Fanatic Essay
My son the fanatic is a short story by the author Hanif Kureishi first published in The New Yorker
1994. In the story we meet the Pakistani immigrant Parvez and his son Ali. Parvez migrated from
Pakistan before he got his son. They now live in London, England, where Ali was born and raised.
Working as a taxi driver Parvez haven t had an ease getting money, but with dedication, he has raised
enough money for his son to get the dream education as an accountant. But lately Ali has acted
significantly different. A change from what you would call a normal Western cultured teen who plays
sports and video games to a muslim fanatic who prays five times a day. It is this change that starts the
statement of problems represented in the story. Parvez deeply wants to embrace his son with all the ...

Ali is remarkably dedicated and confident in his religion, and nothing can persuade him into another
assumption of life. It is evident that Ali has nothing left for Western people, in the way he behaves
towards his father when they talk/discuss life viewpoints. All things considered Ali is steadfast in his
faith, and doesn t seem likely to change.
Bettina works as a mirror in this story. She reflects the set of values that Parvez and Ali have. In their
opinions about her, we can clearly see the difference that Parvez s and Ali s philosophy of life
possesses. Bettina s character is within the culture clash of Parvez and Ali.
The thematic in this short story is definitely a culture clash between the West and the muslims. In the
right hand we have a father, Parvez who symbolize the Western culture, and in the left hand we have
Ali who represent the muslims. The story deals with a well known conflict, the divide between the
fundamentalists and the materialists. Not only this it also shows the generational conflict where a son

The God Yhwh In The Book Of The Bible
The god Yhwh goes through many changes throughout the books of the hebrew bible. For example, in
the book of Genesis, Yhwh makes the entire earth, but when Eve takes food from the tree of
knowledge, he is angry because she gained knowledge of right and wrong. He seems a little bit jealous
here because he punishes them for becoming more like him. This is shown when it says, Then Lord
God said, Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now lest he put
forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever therefore the Lord god sent
him forth from the garden of eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. (28) In exodus Yhwh
becomes very ruthless. The punishment for most crimes he talks about is death. Back then this may
have seemed okay, but now putting someone to death for hitting his parent is a bit extreme. In the end
he says, And if he cries to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate. (33) like it makes up for the cruel
punishments he just laid out. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yhwh seems much more compassionate in this book like when he says, When a stranger sojourns with
you in your land, you shall nor do him wrong. The stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as
the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself... (34) Similarly, in Deuteronomy Yhwh
talks more about being fair to other people and lays down rules for how you should treat people in the
court, and in life. This example is best seen when Yhwh states, You shall not oppress a hired servant
who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brethren or one of the sojourners who are in your
land within your

Christian Doctrine And The Doctrine Of A New Testament
THE POLEMICISTS
As the apostle passed from the scene, other leaders arose in the church to take their place. These
leaders are fathers because of the esteem in which they were held by loyal church members. They
were call bishops and had authority over an area to maintain discipline the church. These fathers can
be classified in certain times or divided into four groups. The first groups would be the apostolic
fathers, the apologists, the Polemicists, and the scientific theologians.
As like the rest of the early church fathers, The Polemicists raised up to defend the faith. Their
reaction by concern church fathers against the action of the heretic let to the development of Christian
doctrine and the formulation of a New Testament Canon. They fought the heresies that were damaging
the church. In refuting error, they used much of the New Testament as the source of the true doctrine.
The work of the Polemicists also gave rise to the concept of an orthodox catholic church which was
opposed to heresy. While most of the Apologists were from the East, most of the Polemicists were
from the West. The Eastern mind was more concerned with speculative theology, whereas the Western
mind was concerned with church organization and practical doctrine for solving problems. These were
the Polemicists. Irenaeus (A.D. 120 202): Irenaeus was born in Smyrna and later moved to Lyons in
Gaul, now France, where he became bishop. He wrote Against Heresies in five books, in which he

High Education Is A Modern Day Crisis
Tuition to attend a university or college in America has gradually been increasing making the pursuit
for a degree even more expensive than before. The escalation of the affordability of seeking a higher
education is a modern day crisis! A college degree is very important in today s fields predominantly
due to the increase in competition for a job. Degrees are viewed as a requirement for a numerous
amount of jobs even though one is not guaranteed work in that field. Compared to other countries
around the world, America has been gradually dwindling down the ranks in student s standardized test
scores in subjects taught in school. Why has this become a trend? The pursuit for a higher education in
America should be free for whoever meets admission standards, as well as maintaining state
requirements to their public college of choice, regardless of the applicant s ability to pay. Yes, the
government offers financial aid to students who qualify for it, but being drowned in an ocean of debt
after graduation is not ideal for anyone and actually discouraging. So why should one even attend
college in the first place? This is an easy question to answer if they have got what it takes to graduate.
Attending college is an investment in your education and statistically has a high return; a return higher
than an investment in the stock market or housing market on average. According to the classic
investment theory that describes the decision to attend college, individuals weigh the

Byzantine Influence On Christian Art
The first centuries were a period of turmoil as well as triumph for many empires, countries, rulers, and
religions. Rome experienced its first Christian emperor, Constantine, who transferred the capital of the
Roman Empire from the west to the east. Christianity replaced the gods of antiquity as the official
religion of the culturally and religiously diverse state in the late 300s (Brooks). This religious shift
resulted in a change in the subjects of artwork that was created across the empire. Furthermore,
Christian basilicas and churches were being built and decorated with a variety of Christian motifs
which sought to transport the viewer into a heavenly realm. With the mass amount of changes that
occurred within a short amount of time, the Roman Empire decreased in size and became known as
the Byzantine Empire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantinople is known today as Istanbul and is located in modern day Turkey. During the time of
the Roman Empire, Constantinople was an important port city in the middle of east west trade. Being
centrally located in trade as well as extending over various countries and cultures resulted in a variety
of artistic styles. The subject of many early artworks was the Virgin (Theotokos) and Child which
progressed to other Christian themes such as Christ the Good Shepherd and Christ the Judge. Many of
these artworks were done in mosaics and are found in basilicas and churches throughout the territory
of the Byzantine Empire. Due to Byzantine control over countries that were Christian and Islamic,
symbols from both religions became focuses of art and were able to join together to produce new art

The Perfect Concept Of Beauty In Edvard Munch s The Scream
As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art. Therefore,
does that mean that all art is supposed to be beautiful? During the time of the Renaissance, the
objective of beauty is vastly different compared to modern beauty. Even so, the ideal concept of
beauty for women during the Renaissance era was to be nothing more than sensual. Women in
paintings during the modern time are genuinely petite. That is what most would consider beautiful and
all women strive to be in order to one day wife a wealthy man. The painting called The Scream, is a
piece of art that could debatably be considered beautiful. Thus, what really determines if art is truly
beautiful? Edvard Munch s 1893 modern art painting called The Scream is one of the most famous
paintings of all time. Edvard Munch s painting is famous for its bountiful colors, the effulgent sky, and
not to mention the individual screaming in anguish all alone on the never before seen, dock. Like
Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch went through his life struggling with anxiety and ultimately
insanity. The painter was not only troubled with this disorder through his own ways, but also
witnessed his mentally ill sister be hospitalized around the same time as the magnificent painting was
made. With this information, Edvard Munch created The Scream as an autobiographical picture. The
painting is considered to be an expressionistic construction of Munch s real life experience of a
horrific scream

Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is considered to be one of the most radical
health care moves in legislation after Medicare. The reason being that it will provide universal health
coverage to everyone regardless of circumstance. An evaluation of ACA s influence on health care
will be evaluated in this paper. The Cost of Health Care As the new healthcare law takes effect
insurance premiums are expected to rise. On average for the last six years insurances premiums have
gone up six percent per year. The average annual cost that employers pay to cover their employees is
around $10,000 for each employee. Usually employees are responsible for 20 percent that total or
$2000. At this time the new law has done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Effect on Quality According to Chaffee, Mason, and Leavitt (2007) this act provides coverage for
up to 32 million of the 45 million uninsured by 2010. It prevents insurance companies from denying
coverage to those with pre existing conditions and also inhibits these companies from removing
coverage from people who develop serious illness (Open Congress, 2009). Moreover, it blocks
insurance groups from applying annual and lifetime caps on coverage (Chaffee, Mason Leavitt, 2007).
The mission of the ACA is to overhaul the inadequate health care system within the country by
providing affordable and accessible health care to everyone. Compared to other wealthy countries, the
United States ranks last in regard to the five indicators of high performing health systems access,
quality, equity, efficiency, and health status. This act has the ability to markedly improve health care.
Hence, average citizens embrace ACA because it enables them to receive coverage at an affordable
cost. Likewise, many nurses welcome ACA because it ushers in several innovative health care
programs that will enhance nursing practice and work environment (Hertel, 2011). The Affordable
Health Choices Act of 2009 allows nurses to focus on health care services as opposed to having to
battle with insurance companies regarding coverage. It allows more time to be spent in the delivery of
care, rather than focusing on the financial aspect. This bill improves

My Catholic Church Experience Paper
On April 11th, 2017, I attended mass in the Blessed Edmund Chapel. Unlike other weekday masses,
this one was scheduled at 7 AM because of it being Holy Tuesday. Never having been to a Catholic
mass before, all of this was a new experience. Growing up in a non denominational Christian
household, I did not have a clue what to expect. From this experience, I was able to gain insight into
the Catholic practices and how they conduct their masses. It also helped to expand on the teachings we
discussed in religion class. When you first walked into the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel, you see
chairs lined up in front of the altar and podium. Underneath a majority of the chairs, lay a bible to
follow along with the sermon of the mass. In front, in front of the altar, there were two candles that a
Brother lit during the mass. Even though the chapel being small might seem like a disadvantage, I
thought that this feature offered a more personal and close experience. Up on the altar, in between the
candles, there was a wooden figure of Jesus on the cross. It was in a way similar to churches I have
attended before, except there was no altar or podium, and was ... Show more content on

It was interesting to finally see the Catholic religion in practice rather than discussing it. I learned how
the worship differs from the fellowship church and at a Catholic Mass. This was my first time
experiencing music like this and also having a service conducted like this. It took a shorter period of
time than I was used to and involved less singing. Attending a Catholic mass definitely helped me to
better understand the practices of Catholics. It taught me more about scripture and also provided me
with an insight to a different religion s customs. From this experience I will take away a new
knowledge of the religion the college I attend represents. It also showed me what a Brother exactly

Selfhood In Charles Chesnutt s The Wife Of His Youth
Charles Chesnutt believes that the journey from freedom to selfhood is impossible for an individual to
complete without the willingness to accept one s own past. In the story, The Wife of His Youth,
Chesnutt uses Mr. Ryder to demonstrate the complexities involved in improving selfhood. Mr. Ryder
must decide whether to acknowledge his wife, Lisa Jane, and damage the image of himself he worked
so hard to create or to willfully ignore his past and lie to himself, but keep his reputation intact. Mr.
Ryder ultimately makes the choice to stop hiding from his past, and he reveals Lisa as his wife.
Chesnutt wants other people of mixed blood to follow Mr. Ryder s example and acknowledge their
pasts as well. He believes that is the only way to successfully move forward in life and advance
selfhood.

Contemporarily, it is now commonplace for large businesses to operate in many countries and serve many markets (Bird Mendenhall, 2015). Companies that operate in numerous countries while providing the same services world wide as in their home country are called global organizations. An example of one such global organization is Nestle. Nestle is a food and beverage company that operates in every continent on the planet. They operate in 21 African countries, 26 North, South, and Central American countries, 30 Asian countries, 33 European countries including their home country, and six countries in Oceania. Genetically modified organisms have been a nutrition topic of concern over the past decade. Despite scientific consensus to the contrary, consumers remain concerned about potential health risks of consuming genetically modified foods. The recent trending stories against Nestle are consumers that are concerned with Nestle s stance on blocking GMO labeling laws. Likewise, consumers are also distraught over the perception that Nestle is selling water. Many consumers feel as though access to safe, sanitized water should be a human right and water should not be sold, but rather readily accessible to everyone. Moreover, these customers believe that Nestle s participation in the sale of water is immoral and inhumane and these customers may be choosing to purchase from other companies who do not participate in the private sector vending of water. • 4. Smallpox Vaccination History Throughout history, smallpox has been one of the dreaded scourges that inflicted mankind. World Health Organization (WHO) stated that smallpox is responsible for the 300 million death cases worldwide in the twentieth century. (Fenner, Henderson, Arita, Jezek , Ladnyi, 1988) (Plotkin, 2004) It was only after Dr Edward Jenner s development on the principle of vaccination that provided the only accurate technique for the prevention of smallpox. The introduction of vaccinia vaccine enabled the global eradication of naturally occurring smallpox in 1970, it is recorded that the last known smallpox case recorded was in Somalia after the eradication. (Rappuoli, Miller, Falkow, 2002) Jenner s procedure has been a highly effective immunizing agent, however, it seemed that it isn t a successful fighter to disease because it carries high incidence of adverse side effects and severe complications. • 5. Definition Of Effective Leadership And Leadership Scripture has much to say in regards to leadership and those in positions of leadership. The Bible tells us that leaders are to lead with integrity and values that govern the heart. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with skillful hands. (Psalm 78:72 NKJV) Unfortunately, that is not the practice of many in leadership, often leaders operate with a public set of values that differs from that of their private life. The definition of effective leadership has changed from character driven leadership to results oriented leadership and is now determined by the results a leader produces, as long as the leader is producing good results, the private life of a leader has no bearing on the situation. (Rima, 2000) While it is true, that leaders can, for a time, engage in a quality practice of leadership that differs from their personal life and produce positive results, eventually, the destructive behaviors of their personal life will affect and influence their public life and may result in failure and scandal. The dangers of this dichotomy are leaders that are emotionally or psychologically unhealthy and the end result is leaders that lack integrity and depth of character. The consequence of this philosophy is failed businesses and churches, ineffective governments, broken marriages and families. This disconnect between the public and private life has led to a major distrust and wariness of public leaders. Rima believes that the root cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay about Systems Theory Systems approach is based on the fundamental principle that all aspects of a human problem should be treated together in a rational manner (Healy, 2005). I have divided this essay into relevant sections that cover an overview of systems ideas, general systems theory and ecological systems theory. This assignment will also include Germain and Gittermans life model, and it will be related back to the case study that has been provided. Limitations of systems theory will also be discussed. Systems ideas is referring to three different types of systems, each created in a different era; general systems theory, ecosystem perspectives and complex systems theory (Healy, 2005). Systems Ideas in social work originated with general systems theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Healy stated the original proponents of general systems theory used biological terminology to explain client needs, situations and the purpose of social work practice (2005). The term that is applied for systems theory is for all systems in general. All systems have boundaries within which both physical and mental energy is exchanged. There are two types of systems that this applies to. Closed systems have no interchange across the boundaries whereas open systems have permeable boundaries or guidelines but there is also some room for movement, within reason. With the second wave of systems theory came about the idea of the ecological perspective, named ecological systems theory. It is the combining of general systems theory with an ecological approach. Ecological systems theory uses ideas that link together four different social systems that surround an individual; these systems are known as, micro systems, meso systems, exo systems and macro systems (Healy, 2005). The ecological model is used as a tool. These systems are very structured and use certain processes as guideline. Different processing concepts are used in systems theory. These concepts explain how the system works. Input is the energy being fed into the system across boundaries. Throughput is how the energy is used within the system and output is the ... After receiving Natoma s letter, Obama often carried it with him as he spoke of the need to reform healthcare to make it more affordable to those who needed it the most and to expand coverage to those who could not get it. The Affordable Care Act, which came to be called Obamacare in the news media, passed through both houses of congress without a single Republican vote in favor and was signed into law by President Obama in March 2010. (U.S. Constitution, 1787) This is the Origination clause, which aims to keep taxing power for representatives and is meant to more closely represent citizens will instead of the Senators who serve in the government for six years. However, unlike the typical 1911 Supreme court case called Flint V. Stone Tracy Corp, which pointed out that the clause wasn t violated when the Senate amended a House passed bill to add a tax to it (Flint v. Stone Tracy Co., 1911), Obamacare began in the Senate instead of in the House of Representatives, and it was a rewriting of an old bill about providing veterans with welfare which had been passed by the House. (CATO, October 2013) The Majority Leader Harry Reid changed some contents of the old bill and added new provisions, so this old bill became the Affordable Care Act. One of which focuses particularly on dogs, what parasites they are susceptible to, how they fall victim to these parasites, how to identify and treat them, which is the most common parasite to dogs and can dogs pass their parasites to other animals or possibly even humans. The most common parasite found in dogs is the roundworm (Ascaris Lumbricoides). Roundworm will typically affect puppies before they are born when in the womb, or after they are born when drinking their mother s milk. When drinking the mother s milk the puppy is actually consuming larvae of the parasite in the form of very small eggs. Roundworm can only be transmitted passively. This means that they will need to be consumed by the next host if transmitted to another dog. The dog could contract the parasite through eating another small mammal that has an infestation such as a mouse or bird. There are a few different areas that can help to develop one s perception about the impact of these two women. As children these two women were raised to be strong, independent, and influential. These childhoods led to their participation in two massively important movements in American history. When considering how the inputs to a computer started out, it is interesting to observe just how little has changed. For example, the QWERTY keyboard as part of the typewriter invented in the 1870s(2) far predates the concept of the modern digital computer as described by Alan Turing in 1936(3). Our tools to interact with our own machines have however been refined to be more convenient for the average user with interfaces such as optimised USB and layout studied for ergonomy. The trackball rolls on the surface instead of the user s hands, however the tracking operates in the same way(1). This innovation in existing technology meant that the handheld type design would later be upgraded as newer technologies took its place. Today, the ball mouse has been largely replaced by the optical and laser mouse. These types of mouse devices use LEDs to emit light onto the surface on which it sits, the reflected light is analysed by a set of photodiodes. Whether the mouse is laser or not depends on if the LEDs emit coherent light (laser) or not (optical). The main drawback of the optical mouse is that they only function on opaque and matte surfaces as they depend on the light reflecting the surfaces imperfections. The precision however is much improved from the ball mouse. Furthermore, less moving parts means more durability. He defines these three types as Traditional authority, charismatic authority and rational legal authority. Charismatic authority comes from a person s special qualities and ability to hold followers because of them. Charismatic individuals may use their authority over a whole society or even just a specific group within a larger one. These individuals can use their authority for good and sometimes bad. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This person could be anywhere from a child of the leader or someone the leader knows and trusts. This in turn leaves a significant danger on the belief because the new leader may lack the required ability to persuade the same followers. For reasons, Weber recognized that charismatic authority ultimately becomes more stable when it in turn changes into a traditional or rational legal authority. A way that a charismatic leader can transform into a traditional authority is by accepting their bloodline, so that their authority passes to their children and then further down the line. Transformation into a rational legal authority occurs when the society that they were leading would in turn develop rules and a bureaucratic structure that is often partnered with a government. Weber defined this as routinization of charisma. When we compare this to democratic leaderships, the similarities tend to be that both give their leaders a ton of responsibility, but with similarities comes its differences. Democratic leaderships often require their individuals to have a high level of skills along with the will to work, the leaders are also rational and deliberate. While charismatic leaders appeal to the emotions of the people around them, and they are often seen as working towards the greater good. Traditional authority is seen as power that is rooted in regular and long standing beliefs of society. This authority is assigned to particular individuals because of the ... Chemical Contamination In Marine Mammals Abstract Dating back to the 1970s when people began to realize the toxic effects pollutants like PCBs and DDT were having on all kinds of organisms, marine mammals came into focus as particularly vulnerable and at risk for adverse health effects with exposure to these contaminants. Since then researchers have worked to determine exactly what harm these animals are succumbing to. The chemical properties of persistent organic pollutants along with the biomagnification of organochlorines through the trophic levels and the bioaccumulation of these chemicals in the blubber of marine mammals, explain why these animals are significantly affected by these hazardous chemicals. Bioaccumulation can also explain important trends in PCBs and DDT concentrations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marine mammals can live for decades and have large blubber layers that attract and store fat soluble chemicals. They also feed at the top levels of long food chains and therefore act as and end point for much of the accumulation in food webs (O Shea, 1999). This concept encompasses two major principles of contamination in marine mammals: bioaccumulation and biomagnification. The latter is described as the tendency of organochlorines to concentrate as they are moved up the trophic levels (O Shea, 1999). An evaluation of the chemical contaminants found in marine mammals from Washington state found that PCB concentrations in seal blubber were 110 times higher than levels found in their fish prey in the Puget Sound, and 56 times higher than their fish prey in Hood Canal (Calambokidis et al., 1984). Calambokidis et al. (1984) concludes there was a significant percentage of organochlorines in fish prey being absorbed and stored by adult male seals. Biomagnification relates to the various diets of marine mammals at different levels in a food chain. Odontocetes and pinnipeds who feed on higher trophic levels such as fish, invertebrates, squid, and other marine mammals, tend to have higher organochlorine concentrations than Mysticetes or low trophic level feeders (O Shea, 1999). A prime example of this is comparing two eco types of Orcinus orca, transient and resident, from the Kenai Fjords/Prince William Sound, AK region (Ylitalo et al., 2001). Although there are many distinctions between these two groups such as habitat use, the main one is that transient killer whales are marine mammal eaters and resident killer whales are fish eaters. This difference causes much higher concentrations of organochlorines in transient killer whales than in resident groups, indicating species who feed in higher trophic levels collect more organochlorines (Ylitalo et al., 2001). • 31. Why Do Marine Animals Use Sign Language Humans communicate by making sounds that are part of an entire language that can be spoken, written, and read, using body language, and, in some cases, using sign language. Marine animals have a slightly different approach, although they use sound to communicate as well. There are many things that affect the messages marine animals send to each other. The main factors are the rate, pitch, and structure of the sounds they make. Whales and dolphins can use echolocation to locate food and other objects. Echolocation is the process in which an animal makes a sound and listens to see how long it takes to make it be reflected back to them when it comes into contact with an object. This tells the animals many things about the object, such as how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salinity, temperature, and the depth of the water can affect the speed of sound in the ocean. The ways in which humans and marine animals produce sound is very different. Humans produce sound by expelling a lot of air over their vocal chords. Dolphins and other marine animals cannot afford to waste such precious oxygen, so they have engineered other ways to accomplish this goal. Whales and dolphins pass air through air sacs they have in their heads to produce noises. Some fish vibrate their swim bladders, crustaceans close their claws at high speeds to make air bubbles that pop and produce noise, and seals and sea lions move their larynx to produce growling sounds. Humans and marine animals also hear noises differently. Humans can hear sounds when sound waves strike our ear drums, causing bones in our ears to vibrate. This then makes the fluid in our inner ear vibrate, and vibrates the hair cells as well. The hairs that are vibrating are connected to neurons that lead to the auditory nerve and sends signals to our brain. Our brain then interprets the signals into information from the sound waves. Dolphins and whales have a different process for interpreting sound. Their lower jaw, called a mandible, carries sound to the bones in their middle ear and from there the vibrations follow the same path as the human hearing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As sectional conflicts of the American Civil War, the views of death in common soldiers, are transforming Watkins accounts depict that most soldiers were prideful and willing to die for their side s beliefs, however, at the end of the day these men are still dying. As the war grew on, so did the realizations of the horrors of battle. For the soldiers who were immersed with the realisms of battle day in and day out, there was a sense that death even more inevitable than ever before. It is clear from Watkin s accounts that men were ready to die for their country on both sides, but especially the Confederates in the South. There was a belief in the rights of Southern states. Most of these men knew they would die in battle, and they were prepared to do so. One account of this is Watkins recollection of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. They were just beginning to fight on June 27th, and Watkins said, We all knew it was but the dead calm that precedes the storm, (Watkins, 130). He mentioned that during the nights you could hear the shrieks and screams of poor fellows left on the field, (Watkins, 131). Those screams of pain foreshadowed the official outcome for most soldiers. It was as if there was no chance they would survive the war.
