Signifier In Gillette Advertisement
Semiotics is defined as the study of symbols and signs as elements of communicative behaviour (Nöth
476). A sign comprises of two main parts, namely signifier and signified. The signifier refers to any
objects, image, or words on a page whilst signified is the concept the sign reflects.
Gillette Advert The signifier in the Gillette advertisement is represented by a naked man s torso with
contours similar to a landscape. It is clear that the torso is of man not a woman because of the
masculine physique. It is also appears that the model chosen for the image could be of Caucasian,
Hispanic or Asian descent and not of an African decent because the contrast between his skin s colour
and the contours is very pronounced, an indication of two contrasting hues or colour shades. Also, the
lighting of the image provides a 3 dimension view of the man s torso to highlight hidden areas that are
hard to reach with normal shaving razors. There is also an image of the shaving razor that is being
advertised. The image is of the product as the customer will find it in the nearest retail outlet. Besides
the images, the advertisement also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A human body has areas, such as armpits and the navel, which are hard to reach with normal razors.
As such, a rounded head helps to navigate these areas with ease without causing any bruises or cuts.
Also, the razor has 3 lubricating strips for more glide on a man s body to avoid nasty cuts. Lubrication
is necessary when shaving, hence 3 lubricating strips offer more comfort when shaving. The razor also
has an anti slip grip for a firm grip that gives the user ultimate control whilst shaving. When shaving,
it is of utmost importance to be in control of the razor to avoid mistakes that could lead to injuries. By
focusing on a firm grip, the advertisement invokes memories of nasty cuts caused by a shaving razor

General Education Essay
With living costs as high as they are in this day and age, it is completely unreasonable to expect the
average individual to squander already limited resources. Receiving a bachelor s degree today requires
an assortment of classes that often are not directly related to one s career objectives. For some, they
find this to be an enjoyable adventure, broadening their knowledge and learning about new aspects of
life, but for others this is just burdensome. However it is looked upon, the college curriculum still
requires a diverse selection of courses to develop well rounded, responsible individuals, but in turn
creates added pressure upon students.
Is it the job of secondary education to start developing all inclusive students who have ... Show more

Or for the individual who find one s true interest, general education is more than worth the two years
it takes to get through. So although the couple of years a college student spends in general education
may seem useless, it is important to recognize the value of it. It helps individuals by showing them an
array of possibilities that should be explored before one decides on his or hers life s career. It also
builds interesting people who are not just specialists, but who have a better understanding and
appreciation for the world around them. Even though, as explained previously, general education is
valuable it does create stress for the student who is set on his/her major. For many students, especially
those who go to state universities, the probability of graduating with a bachelor s degree in four years
is highly unlikely. For those students who have to fight to get into the classes they need to graduate,
general education is a villain. The victim of this system can t see the importance of taking a variety of
courses. Zinsser recognizes this problem in his essay College Pressures, which talks about the stresses
that college students face. He quotes a dean of Yale University talking about his students: They ought
to take chances. Not taking chances will lead to a life of colorless mediocrity. They ll be comfortable.
But something in the spirit will be missing. (452)

LRINEC Score
Blood sampling is also useful, and protein and cell levels can be used to calculate a LRINEC score.
LRINEC stands for Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis and is a great tool for
distinguishing common skin infections from necrotizing fasciitis. In addition, its score is used to
determine if immediate surgical debridement is necessary. Measurements included in the LRINEC
score is C reaction protein, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, sodium, creatinine, and glucose (16).
CRP levels vary drastically among cellulitis and necrotizing fasciitis. CRP stands for C reactive
protein, which is a naturally produced chemical in the liver that serves as a blood test marker for
inflammation throughout the body. A high CRP level indicates

Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space Exploration
Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space
Space exploration is something that has intrigued mankind ever since science fiction writers of old
sparked the imagination of the people. Since then, we have made leaps and bounds towards space
travel with landing people on the moon, sending satellites to Saturn, the photos from the Hubble
Telescope and the rover, Curiosity, on Mars. These advances have provided information that will
prove to be beyond measure. While the cost of such information has been high, the benefits of the
information has been irrefutable. Ultimately, this information goes to support not only further
exploration of space, but also towards technologies that will benefit Earth directly. Two such projects
deal primarily with solar power and nuclear waste disposal. Both of these industries would benefit
immensely from such a service and would also generate the need for many space flights
(Coopersmith, 2012). According to Coopersmith (2012), Space based solar power (SBSP) promises
gigawatts of electric power with minimum environmental damage. Example like this go to show that
the inventions and benefits realized through space exploration reach far beyond the cosmos and into
the everyday lives of people.
Right off the bat, the question for most is, with all the benefits realized through space exploration
aside, what is the actual cost of these endeavors. The space shuttle program (now retired) was the
primary consumer when it came to taxpayer funds. According to

The Importance Of Environmental Change On The Environment
Environmental change on the planet can be caused by different exercises. At the point when
environmental change happens; temperatures can expand a significantly. At the point when
temperature rises, a wide range of changes can happen on Earth. For instance, it can bring about more
surges, dry seasons, or extraordinary rain, and in addition more continuous and extreme warmth
waves. Seas and icy masses have additionally encountered a few changes: seas are warming and
ending up more acidic, ice sheets are dissolving, and ocean levels are rising. As these progressions
regularly happen in future decades, they will probably exhibit difficulties to our general public and
condition.
Amid the previous century, human exercises have discharged a lot of carbon dioxide and other nursery
gasses into the air. The vast majority of the gasses originate from consuming petroleum derivatives to
deliver vitality. Nursery gasses resemble a cover around the Earth, catching vitality in the climate and
making it warm. This is known as the nursery impact and it is characteristic and important to help life
on earth. Be that as it may, while nursery gasses development, the atmosphere changes and result in
perilous impacts to human wellbeing and biological communities. Individuals have adjusted to the
steady atmosphere we have appreciated since the last ice age which finished a few thousand years
back. A hotter atmosphere can bring changes that can influence our water supplies, horticulture,

Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
In the 1950s, Leon Festinger had come up with this theory of Cognitive Dissonance when a cult leader
had persuaded his followers to believe that life on earth was going to end, and that those who were
believers would be rescued by aliens. When this did not occur, they rationalized their beliefs by
instead coming to the conclusion that aliens, rather, had saved the entire world. Cognitive Dissonance
occurs when we hold a strong belief about something and then do something else that contradicts that
belief. Look at a person who smokes cigarettes, but knows that the nicotine and all that goes inside
one cigarette are bad. The tension they feel is dissonance, and to ease that tension they can do one of
three things: change their behavior, justify their behavior by changing their conflicting thoughts, or
justify their behavior by adding on new thoughts. This paper will use research articles that were
previously written, to explain the relationship between dissonance and moral/non moral ... Show more

Festinger wanted to test if the presence of a reward would influence the participant into changing his
private opinion closer to the opinion that was desired which contradicts the participant s original
beliefs. His findings saw that a large reward produced less subsequent opinion change than did a
smaller reward. The conclusion of the study was that the findings were unequivocal, however in the
three conditions: the baseline (control), one dollar (small reward) and twenty dollar (large reward),
cognitive dissonance was lessened in the small condition but when it went beyond the minimum
reward needed to elicit it, the weaker the tendency was to change their private opinion and perform the

The Impact Of Remittances
In recent times, overseas workers have been sending larger remittances annually to their home
countries. These remittances proves to be a vital source of foreign exchange for developing countries.
The overall development impact of remittances, however, has not been well established. Remittances
are spent primarily on day to day consumption expenditures, housing, land purchase, and debt
repayment. Remittances are also directed into productive investments. Remittances spent on domestic
goods and services in Pakistan provide motivation to domestic industries. From a macroeconomic
perspective, remittances can boost aggregate demand and thereby GDP as well as a catalyst for
economic growth.
Background of the Study:

For many recipients, remittances provide food security, shelter, clothing and other basic needs.
Consumption smoothing . Many recipients of remittances, especially in rural areas, have highly
variable incomes. Remittances allow better matching of incomes and spending, the misalignment of
which otherwise threatens survival and/or the taking on of debt.
Education. In many developing countries, education is expensive at all levels, whatever the formal
commitments of the State. Remittances can allow for the payment of school fees and can provide the
wherewithal for children to attend school rather than working for family survival.[2]
Housing. The use of remittances for the construction, upgrading and repair of houses is prominent in
many widely different circumstances.
Health. Remittances can be employed to access preventive and ameliorative health care. As with
education, affordable health care is often unavailable in many remittance recipient countries.
Debt. Remittances provide for the repayment of debts and for the means to avoid the taking on of debt

The Red House Research Paper
Victorian architectural styles are used in modern residential construction of today. The alluring
attraction of the Victorian house has made the Victorian era a traditional symbol of elegance and class.
Architects like Philip Webb embraced the essence of the Victorian architectural style. Known as the
father of the Arts Crafts Movement, along with his friend and designer William Morris. Philip Webb is
most famous for his comfortable, unpretentious country homes, and urban terraced houses. Philip
Webb also designed furniture, wallpaper, tapestries, and stained glass.

The single family home was created for Morris and his wife. The two story red brick and masonry
home was designed in Bexleyheath, a southeastern suburb of London, England. The English Romantic
style house serves as a essential structure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Building on the Red
House was completed in 1860.
The Arts and Crafts Movement started in England during the 19th century evironmental effects from
the simple and repetitious designs that were derived from the machine made products during the
industrial revolution. Philosophers of the Arts and Crafts movement determined that designs being
created lacked aesthetic value. During that time the dull designs associates to the extensive use of
machinery and the loss of the personal human touch.
The Red House is one of the first designs of architecture in the Arts and Crafts Movement. In the
summer of 1858, William Morris decided that he would have his dear friend Philip Webb design him a
house on an orchard in the hamlet of Upton at Bexleyheath. Morris was an architect himself.
However, his lack of experience and success led him to hire Webb as the lead architect on the project,
with Morris as the driving inspiration. The location was an ideal site for Morris new home because it
was far enough from the nearest metropolis, London. However, the adjacent railway made the home

Essay On Tchaikovsky s Piano Concerto No. 2 In C Minor
sister s house in Ukraine, he began work on Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, which he finished that year.
Three years later, in the Mariinsky Theatre, in St. Petersburg The Oprichnik was performed. At the
time, the opera was not well regarded by critics, and Tchaikovsky eventually agreed with them. His
next opera, Vakula the Smith, later recomposed as Cherevichki, was criticized in much the same way
as The Oprichnik. Tchaikovsky as a budding composer encountered hardship in finding a happy
medium between his creative drive/fervor and his capability to judge his works still in development.
Despite the bad press from his operas, his orchestral compositions started to gain him fame, and, at the
end of 1874, Tchaikovsky wrote his Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat Minor. At the ripe age of thirty

Queenie in A P
Flat characters are minor characters in a work of fiction who do not undergo substantial change or
growth in the course of a story. A minor character in a story is not the leader of the story, they are a
supporting character to the protagonist and they give a contrast to the protagonist in a story. In the
story A P by John Updike, the story begins by illustrating Sammy as a young cashier who is cynical
and loathsome of his current situation. He is infatuated by a pretty young girl, the minor character,
who is referred to as Queenie. Queenie is very important in this story because of the conflicts she

Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper
Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus
GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH).
FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the
developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds the
lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus
from the first day of the cycle.
There are countless follicles in the ovaries and only some will mature and only one of these will
ovulate and produce an egg.
FSH will enter the follicles and stimulate maturation of the primary ... Show more content on

A secondary corpus luteum develops
Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase) progesterone
levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will diminish the
release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle).
Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline.
The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted there.
The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with
nutrients from the mother.
The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a
period.
If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature.
All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease.
Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so
GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted into
the ovarian capillaries.
This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

Difference Between Public And Public Health Care
Health care is often seen as an important topic in political terms, more specifically people are
concerned about public vs. private health care. Public health care is often associated with welfare state
liberalism, this is because public health care is generally provided through the government and
national healthcare systems. The welfare state system is one that focuses on the physical and economic
well being of it s citizens. In contrast to this, the private health care system is associated with neo
conservatism. This is because neo conservatism has principles which include wanting to keep their
funds within the country and not altered by outside influences, as well, they tend to distrust
international organizations such as the United Nations. Throughout the paper there will be evidence
and examples to explain each system and how they are related to either the welfare state or neo
conservatism. The citizens of each country, these being Canada and the United States, both have their
own ideas of which system would be favourable. Canada s health care system is public, this means
that Canada is associated with welfare state liberalism. For example, Ontario has their own insurance
plan called Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which is otherwise known as OHIP. OHIP does not allow
for charging or selling private insurance to cover medically necessary services that are covered by
OHIP. The National Health Institute has been influenced by the constitution in the way which they

College Student Athletes
The ongoing debate of the idea whether or not college student athletes should get paid has been dated
back to the first intercollegiate competition. This occurred during a series of boat races between two
major Ivy League schools, Harvard and Yale University. Similar to today s world of entertainment,
one of the main objectives was to please a sponsor of the boat races. By doing this, Harvard used a
non student as a steersman of the boat to participate in the regatta (Parent, 2004).
College sports were becoming popular, but dangerous as well. Many fans enjoyed the violent sport of

players died playing the sport. At the time of his presidency,

Character Analysis Of Gene Forrester In A Separate Peace...
Gene Forrester is a character developed through his actions, dialogues, and thoughts that contribute to
his personality traits. Gene s thoughts and actions distinguish his personality from that of other
characters. Gene hides his true nature in the environment of the novel but exposes himself to the
reader through his thinking and reflection. Gene is revealed to be insecure and jealous through his
narration of the story. Firstly, Gene s insecurity and jealousy are unveiled through his actions,
thinking, and dialogue. By deciphering his reasoning behind his actions, the reader discovers Gene s
insecurity thriving beneath the surface. This is seen when Gene s close friend Phineas jokingly admits
that Gene becoming valedictorian would make him jealous and Gene reacts by thinking, Then a
second realization broke as clearly and bleakly as dawn at the beach. Finny had deliberately set out to

He describes this realization as clear and bleak which indicates he feels it is obvious that Finny intends

one of his classes; he blames Finny for this. Gene s conjecture is a result of his attempt to defend
himself. Insecurity breeds defensiveness as his poor self confidence allowed him to feel threatened by
Finny s joking remarks and took his words sincerely. Due to Gene s defensive response, it displays his
weak self confidence, proving his insecurity. Another personality trait Gene possesses is jealousy. His
jealousy is exemplified in Gene s reaction when Finny is about to get in trouble, and he responds, This

writing sessions in an apartment. They begin to find a friendship within themselves due to their same
abilities as writer, and begin to trust one another in keeping secrets solely just inside Forrester s
apartment. Both characters really show the true meaning of what a friendship should be between two
people no matter if they have the same interest or are different from one another. Jamal is a kid from
the Bronx who is shown to be an African American student that seems to be an average student that
receives C s in his classes. From the town he is from many people believe that during this time a guy
who is African American was not educated and would not go far in anything they do but to be in jail.
For Jamal at the age of 16 he didn t believe that he had a plan of what he wanted in life so he lived as
if he was a regular kid going to school. Jamal lived up to the belief at that time that African Americans
were not intelligent enough and lacked ambition to make something of themselves. He pretends to be
much less than he truly is capable of being and doesn t feel like he needs to express how well of a
writer he can be. Although he portrays this character of being an average student at his school his test

Boston Beer Company SWOT Analysis
The Boston Beer Company is currently the largest craft beer company in the United States, however,
the craft beer industry is growing in an otherwise shrinking market increasing the amount of serious
competition that The Boston Beer Company is facing.
In order to stay on top of the industry, The Boston Beer Company needs to find new, innovative ways
of being the most appealing craft beer available to the average consumer. While The Boston Beer
Company offers many different varieties of seasonal beer, they should begin to shift their focus to year
round specialty beers, such as a line of regional flavors based on their consumer s regional taste
preferences.

The committee will then determine the cities with the most potential to move forward with.
Representatives from the Real Estate Department will search the area for existing small, already
existing brewery locations available to lease or rent. If no pre existing locations are available, then
competitors with the potential to buy out will be identified. Ideally, leases will be signed for a 7 year
term, with the option to extend the lease after 5 years. All locations should be determined by the end
of the third quarter. As soon as the areas are identified, members of the Human Resource Department
will begin searching for Brew Master to run and operate each of the new nano brewery locations.
These Brew Masters can be identified from current brewery locations or from competitors local to the
new locations. Training on the methods and policies of the Boston Beer Company should be

Boston Beer Company should then conduct regional market studies to determine potential flavors for
each specific region based off existing local craft breweries and popular regional flavor combinations.
Each smaller market study should be conducted by local consulting firms who already have an
understanding of the demographics and culture of the region they are studying. These studies should

Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior
Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to
a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A
healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial
behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in
general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an
automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or
she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is
developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the
feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents
that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower
academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of
developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the
inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Some
behavior, such as being disobedience or defiant, can be considered as normal behavior in adolescents,
however it can also be a strong predictor of adjustment difficulties adolescents may face in their

Demian Hermann Hesse
In life, everyone is searching for something. Some people search for things like money, love, power,
and fame while others are just simply searching for themselves. Published in 1919, Hermann Hesse s,
Demian, tells the story of an older man s reflection on his childhood. Throughout the novel, main
character Emil Sinclair struggles to find a purpose and meaning for his life. He faces many difficulties
in an attempt to find himself. This is a novel of self discovery and the pursuit of happiness. Because
Hesse displays a power struggle between two elements of binaries, the binaries mirror the struggles
that Sinclair faces and his final acceptance of this. The novel begins with recollections of 10 year old
Sinclair. Hesse illustrates the two realms or worlds that Sinclair is aware of at this age. One world is of
light and one world is of darkness. The world of light consists of everything good, pure, and innocent
while the world of darkness is everything evil, sin and deceit. It was wonderful that here among us
there was peace, order, and repose, duty and a clear conscience, forgiveness and love and wonderful
that all the rest existed, all those noisy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having grown up in the world of light, Sinclair believed in the bible and all things God. This also
means he believed in the Devil. When he enters the dark world, he begins to experience the Devil
more than God for the very first time. This is really hard on Sinclair and he was living as frightened
and tormented as a ghost (Hesse 15). It isn t until he learns about Abraxas that he finally understands
the purpose of these two binaries. But it seems that Abraxas has a much greater significance. We may
look upon the name as that of a deity who had the symbolic task combining the godlike and the
devilish (Hesse 60). Understanding Abraxas and his significance is able to put Sinclair at some peach

The Iranian Hostage Crisis Of Iran
In 1979, the United States of America was presented with a situation unlike any before: they received
word that their embassy in Tehran, Iran, had been overtaken and all members of the embassy save six
were being held hostage by Iranian revolutionaries. The road leading to this climactic period in
American and Iranian history led back to almost thirty years of growing anti American resentment.
The Shah and the Supreme Ayatollah of Iran were at odds, creating a power struggle unlike any seen
in modern history. The interaction of Western influence and Islamic culture and social structure
reacted in an explosive way, culminating in what is now called the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The

In response, the rest of the world started a boycott of Iranian oil, and the British began planning a
military operation to wrest control from Mossadegh. They worked with President Dwight Eisenhower
and the American CIA to organize a coup of sorts, by funding and inciting pro shah supporters to take
to the streets and demand the removal of Mossadegh, who was an erratic and unpredictable ruler. The
operation was successful and threw Mossadegh out of power, but not without many unintended
consequences (Farber, 56). Within Iran, Islamic fundamentalists following Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini were greatly angered by the American influence and disruption, and the seeds of revolution
were planted. Fast forward twenty five years, and we arrive at the beginning of the Iranian Revolution.
In August of 1978, riots and civil violence were escalating dramatically within Iran, as supporters of
the Iranian Shah and the Supreme Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini clashed in demonstrations that
frequently turned lethal. The problem for American President Jimmy Carter was that both sides
represented different evils, as the Shah employed the use of the SAVAK, the Iranian secret police, as
well as torture to maintain control; but Khomeini represented a vehement hatred for all Western
influence in his country, and his supporters often lit cinemas and other Western symbols on fire
(Farber, 92). One incident in particular sparked the beginning of a

Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
Immediately in viewing this passage from Lars Eighner s On Dumpster Diving it can be gathered that
Eighner is judging the college students in the area he frequents. Eighner states, the Dumpsters in this
area are very rich . This quote implies that the Dumpsters themselves hold rich food and items much
like the students who empty their items in these college Dumpsters. This quote in its entirety suggests
that Eighner, as the dumpster diver, is a very smart and calculated individual. He recognizes that,
Students throw out so many good things, including food , and they tend to throw everything out when

Eighner begins his essay by drawing attention to various words through italicization. This initial start
to the essay helps Eighner defamiliarize the idea of dumpster divers since they are usually seen as
uneducated or lower beings. Eighner demonstrates methods and knowledge when eating from
dumpsters through his calculations in reference to finding the best food. For instance, he often
frequents pizza parlours and college student residences. Although he writes to inform the reader, he
ultimately pushes self reliance, where those who choose to Dumpster dive should think for themselves
when determining what to take from Dumpsters. Next on Eighner s list is the psychological process of
becoming a diver . Everyone is very different on their route in becoming and continuing as a
Dumpster diver. Some trade their thoughts with others. Eighner identifies these people in some
categories: Can scroungers, pack rats, and the literate and educated. Through these types Eighner
provides a space to explain and interpret the different types, highlighting how he feels about each type
and where he fits in. In his conclusion Eighner unpacks his experiences with his trusty canine and he
acknowledges what he has covered and gives more hints that dumpster diving was not his first choice

Pleistoina Hypothesis
Through the Pleistocene, the human race witnessed a remarkable integer of extinctions of huge earthly
species. In this extinction Australia nineteen genera while the Americas lost over seventy genera.
Almost all of these were animals of virtually large sizes (Donald, 1991). The North America witnessed
the loss of elephants, camels, horses ground sloths, pronghorn, ovibovids, peccaries and the giant
beaver. On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of
camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials
larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main
hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the
Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal
species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter
gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. Nevertheless, a close examination of
these two theories discloses that neither climate changes nor human overkill was likely to be
independent to blame for the Pleistocene exterminations. The two were intertwined thus a synthetic
theory that comprises both theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Selective evolution came into play favoring one species and driving the other away. Due to their
bigger size the megafaunal were more affect by the competition than their smaller existing species.
The above is because the large animals need more primary habitats for forage and more water to keep

forced large animals into co habituating smaller regions, holding inadequate wherewithal to sustain
them all. The outcome was the removal of some species due to

Essay on Voting Behavior in the United Kingdom
Voting Behavior in the United Kingdom
When voting, people are usually going to vote for their own personal well being. Although voters may
agree that there should be improved services for everyone, when it comes to voting, it is likely they
will vote for what is best for them personally I.e. lower tax. This is known as issue voting. E.g.
whether a candidate will support a ban on fox hunting. It is agreed that issues do have an effect on
voting but the significance of an issue in contributing to electoral swing depends on three factors.
First, how important the issue is to the voters, second, which party is preferred and by how much and
third how these factors have changed since the last election. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By party identification, political scientists mean a psychological attachment to a party rather than a
rational choice based on the party s aims, promises or practises. It has a lot to do with a party s public
image which is also a big deciding factor amongst non partisan voters.
The media has a lot to do with a party s image, as it is the main and often only way many people
receive information about politics. The media in Britain is free, and is not controlled by the
government, meaning broadcasters are able to decide the content of political broadcasts. However
guidelines issued by the IBA and BBC ensures political balance and impartiality. A channel will
normally present balanced argument by using representatives of different political parties or groups.
How a party is perceived through the media is vital for gaining public support. The national press
often shows strong party bias. Many people read newspapers and until recently many actively
supported the Conservative Party and urged readers to vote Conservative. Tabloid newspapers tend to
be highly partisan with news, opinion and party propaganda mixed together. Many national
newspapers since 1997 have supported labour , one of the biggest shifts being in the Sun s support.
It is through the media that a party s public image is formed. Voter perceptions of the competence or
personality of a party

Rasputin Was An Infamous Siberian Holy Man
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was an infamous Siberian holy man , whose ability to cure the Tsar and
Tsarina s son of haemophilia led to him becoming an important friend and spiritual advisor to the
Romanov royal family (Duffy, 2009). Rasputin was a paradox, by day he was a supreme mystic at
court and at night he obtained a reputation as a notorious drunk and philanderer (Rae Thompson,
2014). By 1916 Rasputin was viewed by many as a malevolent puppeteer who infiltrated his way into
the royal family, pulling the strings of the Tsar s wife and manipulating the regime (Rae Thompson,
2014). While his influence and status may have been overstated Rasputin became an obvious
scapegoat for Russian aristocrats, liberals and nationalists, synonymous with debauchery, lust and
power his presence brought considerable shame and discredit to the tsarist government (Moss, 2003).
The dominant viewpoint that Rasputin was the sole reason behind the decay of the Romanov reign is
presented by Mikhail Rodzianko, Chairman of the Duma, who stated that The appearance in [the
royal] court of Grigory Rasputin, and the influence he exercised there, mark the beginning of the
decay of Russian society and the loss of prestige for the throne and for the person of the Tsar himself .
However, although Rasputin s company played a significant role in the increasing unpopularity of the
Imperial couple, he was purely a symbol of Russian despotism and not a central character in the
downfall of the Romanov

Truth about Autonomous Cars Vehicles that drive themselves is a concept that is often thought about
in futuristic movies or science fiction novels. Throughout, history mankind has been fascinated with
robots and cars that could work without humans. Advanced technology is getting closer to making
these futuristic ideas the real thing. Living in an advanced technological time would society be ready
for this to happen and how far away is this from becoming a reality? One of the biggest challenges
facing autonomous cars is legal issues. As of right now computer technology and artificial intelligence
face numerous legal battles. Most people have heard of the technology that Google is creating in an
attempt to make a driver less car. As the technology gets more attention in the news Google s
driverless car has become a very opinionated and sensitive topic. People often ask questions like What
if Google s car hit someone? Who would be at fault for the accident Google or the owner of the car?
These questions are currently being debated at the state and federal levels. As of right now states are
actively seeking to regulate autonomous cars much more than the federal government is. Currently
only California, Florida, Nevada and the District of Columbia have successfully created

The Rhodes Must Fall Movement
This essay will attempt to give a response of the Rhodes Must Fall writings. It is clear that the rising
of movements like Rhodes Must Fall, has been a result of a wave of philosophies of Fanon and Biko
who share a highly similar pedigree in their interests in the philosophical psychology of consciousness
and desire for a decolonising of the mind (). Their ideologies have the interest of young South
Africans. The essay will be done by looking into how the movement wants the university to be
decolonised, the statue of Rhodes, alienation the students are experiencing, curriculum change, the
university s lack of cultural space and representation of blacks, racism in the university and
social/systematic exclusion of black students. In order to understand what the movement wants to
achieve, it is relevant to provide a background of its insurgence. The Rhodes Must Fall Movement is a
collective movement of students and staff members mobilizing for direct action against the reality of
institutional racism at the University of Cape Town (The Johannesburg Salon, 2015:6) .The movement
aims to advance black students interests by ending the oppression they experience in the university

Symptoms Of Hypoglycemia
Symptoms of hypoglycemia can be very subtle and difficult to recognize. Many people with
hypoglycemia have become so used to their symptoms that often, they don t even recognize their own
abnormality. This is especially true when it comes to behavioral changes.
There is a whole variety of symptoms that can be caused when the body cells are deprived of sugar or
when blood sugar drops too quickly. The most common symptom of hypoglycemia is fatigue. When

By simply switching for a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates to one that is comprised of protein
and complex carbohydrates, one can bridge the gap between a dysfunctional life and a rich one. In
order to determine whether you have hypoglycemia, you must first examine your eating habits. Simple
facts like what and when you eat can directly affect how you feel. Anyone who has unexplained
fatigue, depression, crying spells, anxiety, or apprehension should investigate low blood sugar levels
as a potential culprit. You should also look into your family history, as hypoglycemia tends to run
within families.
Those people who are chronically stressed and often find themselves on a roller coaster of blood sugar
going up and down are especially prone to dips in energy at certain times of the day. These people
have adrenals that are not functioning optimally, causing them to want sugar when they hit a real low
point. Usually, in the mid afternoon, adrenal glands are at their lowest level of functioning. If you do,

Intel in DRAM business:
The strategies employed by Intel for DRAM business focussed on:
1. Pushing the envelope of product design

Intel realized the advantage of partnering with IBM and initiated projects like Crush and Checkmate to
counter Motorola to ensure microprocessor supremacy. With the success of securing IBM contract
along with more wins, Intel was on set on track to ensure industry dominance.
Exit from DRAMs
Intel TMT had an emotional connect with the DRAMs business. Successful development of 1M
DRAM was traded off for microprocessor development more on the behest of the middle line
managers who developed the microprocessor technology over time with resources allocated for
DRAM research. This was in line with Intel s entrepreneurial culture which encouraged strategic
planning through all functions. By 1986, Intel s TMT officially approved middle managers pursuit to
exit from the DRAM business and focus on the microprocessor.
Intel as a Microprocessor company
Intel began supplying microprocessor to IBM. To meet the demand, Intel licensed to as many as 12
other companies to produce 8086 chips, which left Intel with just 30% of the total revenues and profits
for that product. Gradually, they reduced the number of licensee to only IBM. Thus they retained the
profits pool within their value chain.
Meanwhile, IBM, who was Intel s star customer, decided to produce own proprietary components.
This was an inflection point for Intel. It partnered with Compaq and Microsoft, to break the hegemony
of IBM. Though Microsoft products did not

The Influence Of Neorealism On The World War II
Neorealism came to fruition as a result of classical realism. While classical realism was based on the
inclinations of human nature, neorealism proposed the structural constraints determined the behavior
of states in the international realm. After World War II, the call for a politically and economically
integrated Europe was of utmost importance among European leaders because of the brutal human and
economic cost of the war. The idea of integration came in order to maintain the balance of power in
the region, specifically regarding the rise of another expansive Germany type state and to guard
against the rise of the nuclear armed Soviet Union. The idea of integration started with the European

This rationality means they will pursue interests in terms of power according to offensive neorealism,
or in terms of security according to defensive neorealism (Collard Wexler, 2006). These two strands
have been heavily debated within neorealist theory, particularly by Mearsheimer in favor of offensive
neorealism and Waltz in favor of defensive neorealism. John Mearsheimer believes that the goal of
states is to maximize power while Waltz believes the goal of states is to maintain their positions in the
system (Snyder, 2001). There is no punishment for irrational or aggressive behavior because of the
anarchic nature of the system so states must rely on themselves for survival, through the use of power.
Due to anarchy, states will balance against their peers by imitation, by boosting their national assets
(internal balancing), forming alliances with other states (external balancing) or by adopting the
successful power generating practices of the prospective hegemon (emulation) (Wohlforth et.al, 2007)
and these 3 processes will prevent hegemony. Neorealism relates to European integration most
specifically in terms of the aforementioned balance of power. Nations tend to balance among
dominant powers rather than ally with them because they fear that the powerful ally of today could
become the menacing rival of tomorrow (Collard Wexler, 2006). This balance, however, should not be
confused with cooperation because

Abstract No one on earth can escape the sounds of noise an unwanted, disturbing sound that causes a

This type of exposure to noise does not have to be as loud as a gun being fired; it can be as simple as a
person shouting across the room. The type of hearing loss is any degree from partial to complete
hearing loss. This loss, usually, is permanent and is not satisfactorily corrected by any devices such as,
hearing aids. The loss is caused by the destruction of the delicate hair cells and their auditory nerve
connections in the Organ of Corti, which is contained in the cochlea (Bugliarello, et al., 1976). Every
exposure to loud noise destroys some cells, but prolonged exposure damages a larger amount of cells,
and ultimately collapses the Organ of Corti, which causes deafness.
Most of society is now aware that noise can damage hearing. However, short of a threat that disaster
would overtake the human race if nothing is done about noise, it is unlikely that many people today
would become strongly motivated to do something about the problem. Yet, the evidence about the ill
effects of noise does not allow for complacency or neglect. For instance, researchers working with
children with hearing disorders are constantly reminded of the crucial importance of hearing to
children. In the early years the child cannot learn to speak without special training if he has enough

History of the Modern Bathing Suit
Imagine this, you see a woman at the beach sporting a thick, black dress and a bonnet. It seems odd
initially; however it gets even odder when she walks into the water wearing it. Well, a little over one
hundred years ago this was the norm. If a woman were to wear a bikini, well, the consequence could
be her being arrested. Believe it or not, in 1919, a woman was arrested for wearing a bathing suit
beneath her clothes.
So, what is a bathing suit exactly? Well, a bathing suit is a garment that is worn during water activities
like swimming, diving, surfing, water polo, and water skiing. Bathing suits can also be worn for
activities such as sunbathing. Bathing suits come in a variety of styles for men and women. The most
popular worn by women are the bikini and one piece. Bathing suits are worn in not just America but
all over the world.
Now that you know exactly what a bathing suit is, let s get into the history. Women s bathing suit
fashion in the 1900 s was very conservative. The laws stated that bathing suits must be a certain length
and had to cover a lot of the body. If a woman were not to abide the laws, she could be arrested.
Bathing suits could not be more than six inches above a woman s knee. Women typically wore black
or navy, knee length puffed sleeve wool dresses trimmed with ribbon and adorned with bows. Long
black stockings, fancy caps and lace up bathing slippers were commonly worn with bathing suits.
Long bathing coats were often worn from the bathhouse up

Business Financing For Small Businesses Essay
Small Business Loans
Starting a business requires capital so as to run and steer the business to profitability. There are many
sources of financing tailored to meet the needs of start ups and small businesses. Business financing
usually varies depending on factors such as source of funds and the size and type of business. The
process of securing funds can also be problematic for most start ups and small business because of the
unwillingness of most traditional banks to provide funds to small borrowers. Here are some of the
main non banking financing options for startups and small businesses:

This orphanage, which housed over 400 other abandoned babies and children, took her in and cared
for her. Ten months later, she was adopted by an American couple, with two biological daughters of
their own. This baby was me and this I believe: Whether a child is adopted or blood related to the
parents, the love and connection between the family remains the same.
I was born in Fu Ling, China, and adopted on October 17th, 2003. I have grown up in America, raised
by a caucasian family. I ve known that I was adopted ever since I could comprehend the true meaning
of adoption. My family and I have received a countless number of confused stares; curious as to why I
looked different than the rest of my family. As a child, my friends would ask why my hair was so
much darker, or why I was so much shorter compared to my sisters. They would often ask why I had
such an American name, since I clearly was not from America. ... Show more content on

I felt pressured to dress, act, and look the same as my family. I often wondered if my parents loved me
and sisters equally, or if they viewed me differently. Eventually, I became embarrassed to go out with
my family, even if just a quick trip to the grocery store. I felt as if everyone around me was silently
judging me and spotting all of my differences. I thought that my parents would be humiliated to be
seen with me, since I was didn t have straight, blonde hair or pale, green eyes like

Harley Davidson
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Harley Davidson is the largest market share holder of motorcycles over
750cc in the United
States. After the expansion of our production and distribution capacity, we will be in the position to
meet the increasing demand for our motorcycles and other products. Growth potential appears very
good especially in the overseas market. Gaining a larger market share in these area may require a
further increase in production and distribution capacities. We must plan for expansion now and
continue to grow as a company.

Sales of Buell motorcycles (which are distributed through select Harley Davidson dealers) increased
to $14 million in 1995 as compared to $6 million in 1994. The Company began 1995 at a scheduled
motorcycle production rate of 395 units per day. As the implementation of the manufacturing strategy
continued, the rate increased to 470 units per day by the end of the year. The Company exceeded its
production goal of 100,000 units in 1995 and anticipates 1996 production will reach at least 115,000
units.
The Company is currently reviewing alternative sites for the construction of a new manufacturing
facility to enable it to achieve its long term goal of doubling motorcycle production by 2003. Year end
data indicates that the domestic (United States) motorcycle market continued to grow throughout
1995.
Compared to 1994, industry registrations of domestic heavyweight (engine displacements in excess of
751cc) motorcycles were up 11.3% . The Company ended 1995 with a domestic market share of
55.8% compared to 56.1% in 1994. This decrease is a reflection of the Company s constrained
production capacity in a growing heavyweight motorcycle market. Demand for the Company s
motorcycles continues to exceed supply with nearly all of the Company s independent domestic
dealers reporting retail orders on all of their remaining 1996 model year motorcycle allocations
(production through June, 1996). Export revenues totaled $394.8 million during

The Use Of Glycerol Residue
ABSTRACT: The use of glycerol residue, a palm oil waste from Oleochemical industries as a raw
material for the production of succinic acid with immobilized cell fermentation process was
investigated. In this work, the raw material, immobilized cells to produced succinic acid were
characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscope
instruments. Based on the results, the functional group appearing for treated and commercial glycerol
is the hydroxyl, aromatic methoxyl, alkenes, soap, carbonyl and alcohol group. The hydroxyl group
which is O H appeared at a spectra value of 3394.2700 cm 1for the treated glycerol and 3299.9600 cm
1 for the commercial group. Respectively. From the analysis of SEM for bead, it was found that
majority of pores fall within range and the shapes was ellipsoid and a thick skin around strains was
detectable, therefore indicating that immobilized cell prepared for fermnatation process is an attractive
source for succinic acid applications. . Key words: succinic acid, immobilized cell, glycerol residue,

Escape In Romantic Poetry
Repression and the Desire to Escape in Romantic Poetry
Romantic poetry encompasses many things, involving, but not limited to; nature, the sublime, and
strong senses of emotion. Many of the romantic poets wrote about nature, and how nature strongly
relates to that sense of emotion. Of course when you lack emotion, or you are struck with many
negative emotions, romantic poetry shows that nature itself is the remedy that you may require. Not
only does romantic poetry show that nature can cure, but it shows that an escape to nature is required
in order to understand it, and receive the cure that you seek. It shows that you must abandon your past
struggles, and learn to embrace nature. This begs the question; how does romantic poetry attempt to
show that nature is the cure to the issues that you currently face? Many of the romantic poets attempt
to show that through an escape to nature, you are able to become enlightened. William Wordsworth s
The Ruined Cottage exhibits a woman (Margaret) who is surrounded by romantics, which is used to
contrast that which are her struggles, and her lack of romanticism. This essay will look at the desire to
escape the struggles that the characters are facing through a romantic escape to nature. It will display
how Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage conveys a message of escapism to nature as a cure to hardship
through a character that fails to escape, as well as how John Keats Ode to a Nightingale shows a
character who succeeds with

Abstract
The aim of this paperis to propose a framework to evaluate the awareness of digital literacy among
students. This paper mention about the ways to develop the knowledge performance towards students
by practicing good skills to deal with the appropriate digital tools and knowing variety types of digital
tools which can be use in digital literacy among students.
Keywords: awareness; digital literacy; digital tool; information literacy; knowledge performance
1. Introduction
Nowadays, in dealing with the rising of the technologies, students need to be encouraged to be ready
to obtain lifelong knowledge and skill in the learning environment. The understanding of the concept
of digital literacy has to go through long term development and its current appearance is characterized
by complexity and technology skills but also cognitive and attitudinal components of behavior.
(Reynolds, 2008 ; Reynolds, 2016) notes that definitions of digital literacy are often skills, and
practically in uses of related technologies, thus tethering them to a given historical moment in time.
The definition frequently used is a confident and important use of ICT for work, leisure, learning and
communication (European Commission, quoted in JISC InfoNet, 2012; Hall, Nix Baker,

Animal Farm Torture
Torture for Traitors and Prizes for Partisans
In the fable Animal Farm, George Orwell expresses a clear representation of the Russian Revolution in
the form of animals on a farm rebelling against the leaders, pigs. Napoleon s treatment of the animals
is dependent on the way Napoleon perceives the animal s dedication. If they accept his leadership they
receive their basic needs; whereas, if they rebel against him, their basic needs are not met. This results
in all the animals accepting Napoleon s leadership in order to receive their fundamental needs. This is
only possible if Napoleon has followers that will aggressively support him or even die in order for
Napoleon to succeed. Through Old Benjamin, the hens and the pigs viewpoints on Napoleon s
tyranny, it is easily identified which animal supports Napoleon s way of ruling the farm, which oppose
him and which animal simply has no opinion.
The pigs on Animal farm are among the most loyal supporters of Napoleon s tyranny, which provides
them with their basic needs and more. The pigs have no reason to be afraid of Napoleon because since
they are on his side, he will always treat the pigs well. This is exemplified when ...the milk and the
windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs
alone. (Animal Farm, Page 26). Furthermore, the animals that support Napoleon are treated better and
provided with more than their basic needs. This treatment shows the other animals that

Essay On New York Charity
In New York after 1815, there seemed to be a flood of individuals that stormed into the city walls. The
spread of a more urban area and a large numbers of immigrants that stormed into New York created a
dynamic of both benefits and downfalls for the government of New York. The force that was coming
for workers provided employers extremely cheap day workers, with the belief that the exponential
growth of pauperism represented an unnecessary and eradicable evil (pg. 577). Associations were
formed for problems across the board, to assist widows and orphans, immigrants and Negroes, debtors
and prisoners, aged females and young prostitute . In January of 1805, there was a report of 10,000
residents that were on some form of charity in New York ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, New York was against slavery and wanted to help free slaves. New York established an
Emancipation that would free slaves, but it would limit them the right to vote. The blacks would have
other restrictions such as not being able to hold public office, being able to testify in state court, or
even marry whites. The emancipation was denied and sent back to be revised. With the new revisions,
the slaves would not be able to vote and the Assembly agreed on the bill, but it was denied by the
Senate. In 1785, there was an organization called the New York Manumission Society that was created
to help abolition slavery. This organization began to instill fear into newspaper editors against
advertising slave sales. The organization threatened auction houses and ship owners. The organization
also provided legal services to slaves that wanted to pursue in suing their slave owners (Cash, 2008).
Apparently, the organization began to shed light in New York and slavery began to decrease. While
these changes were happening, whites began to take over some of the jobs that were given to slaves
for lower wages. Some of the whites were unemployed and need a job to provide for their

Notes On Mergers And Acquisitions
Table 1 1 shows the summary of mergers and acquisitions activities in Malaysia for the year of 2011
and 2012. Based on the table, there is an increment of transaction value (in US$m) for both announced
and completed mergers and acquisitions in Malaysia. The value of announced mergers and acquisition
increase 20.14% from year 2011 to 2012. While the value of completed mergers and acquisitions in
Malaysia increase about 48% from year 2011 to 2012.
Based on table 1 1, although not all the announced mergers and acquisitions are completed during a
year, the percentage of completed mergers and announcements for both years 2011 and 2012 is more
than 70% (2011 = 70.32% and 2012 = 72.77%). This is a good indication to a developing country like
Malaysia because more than 70% of announced mergers and acquisitions are completed during a year.
The increasing value of mergers and acquisitions over the years has motivated this study to examine
whether the mergers and acquisitions activities does provide a fair return to the acquirers companies
especially in term of the share prices changes. Therefore, it is important to examine whether there is
any abnormal returns around the announcement period. However, if the market is efficient, we should
expect the impact of mergers and acquisitions only take place on the day of announcement while the
other days around the event windows will not generate significance different in abnormal returns.

  • 2. Signifier In Gillette Advertisement Semiotics is defined as the study of symbols and signs as elements of communicative behaviour (Nöth 476). A sign comprises of two main parts, namely signifier and signified. The signifier refers to any objects, image, or words on a page whilst signified is the concept the sign reflects. Gillette Advert The signifier in the Gillette advertisement is represented by a naked man s torso with contours similar to a landscape. It is clear that the torso is of man not a woman because of the masculine physique. It is also appears that the model chosen for the image could be of Caucasian, Hispanic or Asian descent and not of an African decent because the contrast between his skin s colour and the contours is very pronounced, an indication of two contrasting hues or colour shades. Also, the lighting of the image provides a 3 dimension view of the man s torso to highlight hidden areas that are hard to reach with normal shaving razors. There is also an image of the shaving razor that is being advertised. The image is of the product as the customer will find it in the nearest retail outlet. • 3. General Education Essay With living costs as high as they are in this day and age, it is completely unreasonable to expect the average individual to squander already limited resources. Receiving a bachelor s degree today requires an assortment of classes that often are not directly related to one s career objectives. For some, they find this to be an enjoyable adventure, broadening their knowledge and learning about new aspects of life, but for others this is just burdensome. However it is looked upon, the college curriculum still requires a diverse selection of courses to develop well rounded, responsible individuals, but in turn creates added pressure upon students. Is it the job of secondary education to start developing all inclusive students who have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or for the individual who find one s true interest, general education is more than worth the two years it takes to get through. So although the couple of years a college student spends in general education may seem useless, it is important to recognize the value of it. It helps individuals by showing them an array of possibilities that should be explored before one decides on his or hers life s career. It also builds interesting people who are not just specialists, but who have a better understanding and appreciation for the world around them. Even though, as explained previously, general education is valuable it does create stress for the student who is set on his/her major. For many students, especially those who go to state universities, the probability of graduating with a bachelor s degree in four years is highly unlikely. For those students who have to fight to get into the classes they need to graduate, general education is a villain. The victim of this system can t see the importance of taking a variety of courses. Zinsser recognizes this problem in his essay College Pressures, which talks about the stresses that college students face. He quotes a dean of Yale University talking about his students: They ought to take chances. Not taking chances will lead to a life of colorless mediocrity. They ll be comfortable. But something in the spirit will be missing. (452) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space Exploration Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space Space exploration is something that has intrigued mankind ever since science fiction writers of old sparked the imagination of the people. Since then, we have made leaps and bounds towards space travel with landing people on the moon, sending satellites to Saturn, the photos from the Hubble Telescope and the rover, Curiosity, on Mars. These advances have provided information that will prove to be beyond measure. While the cost of such information has been high, the benefits of the information has been irrefutable. Ultimately, this information goes to support not only further exploration of space, but also towards technologies that will benefit Earth directly. Two such projects deal primarily with solar power and nuclear waste disposal. Both of these industries would benefit immensely from such a service and would also generate the need for many space flights (Coopersmith, 2012). According to Coopersmith (2012), Space based solar power (SBSP) promises gigawatts of electric power with minimum environmental damage. Example like this go to show that the inventions and benefits realized through space exploration reach far beyond the cosmos and into the everyday lives of people. Right off the bat, the question for most is, with all the benefits realized through space exploration aside, what is the actual cost of these endeavors. The space shuttle program (now retired) was the primary consumer when it came to taxpayer funds. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance In the 1950s, Leon Festinger had come up with this theory of Cognitive Dissonance when a cult leader had persuaded his followers to believe that life on earth was going to end, and that those who were believers would be rescued by aliens. When this did not occur, they rationalized their beliefs by instead coming to the conclusion that aliens, rather, had saved the entire world. Cognitive Dissonance occurs when we hold a strong belief about something and then do something else that contradicts that belief. Look at a person who smokes cigarettes, but knows that the nicotine and all that goes inside one cigarette are bad. The tension they feel is dissonance, and to ease that tension they can do one of three things: change their behavior, justify their behavior by changing their conflicting thoughts, or justify their behavior by adding on new thoughts. Three years later, in the Mariinsky Theatre, in St. Petersburg The Oprichnik was performed. At the time, the opera was not well regarded by critics, and Tchaikovsky eventually agreed with them. His next opera, Vakula the Smith, later recomposed as Cherevichki, was criticized in much the same way as The Oprichnik. Tchaikovsky as a budding composer encountered hardship in finding a happy medium between his creative drive/fervor and his capability to judge his works still in development. Despite the bad press from his operas, his orchestral compositions started to gain him fame, and, at the end of 1874, Tchaikovsky wrote his Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat Minor. Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH). FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A secondary corpus luteum develops Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase) progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle). Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline. The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted there. The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with nutrients from the mother. The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a period. If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature. All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease. Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted into the ovarian capillaries.

  • 16. Difference Between Public And Public Health Care Health care is often seen as an important topic in political terms, more specifically people are concerned about public vs. private health care. Public health care is often associated with welfare state liberalism, this is because public health care is generally provided through the government and national healthcare systems. The welfare state system is one that focuses on the physical and economic well being of it s citizens. In contrast to this, the private health care system is associated with neo conservatism. This is because neo conservatism has principles which include wanting to keep their funds within the country and not altered by outside influences, as well, they tend to distrust international organizations such as the United Nations. Throughout the paper there will be evidence and examples to explain each system and how they are related to either the welfare state or neo conservatism. The citizens of each country, these being Canada and the United States, both have their own ideas of which system would be favourable. Canada s health care system is public, this means that Canada is associated with welfare state liberalism. For example, Ontario has their own insurance plan called Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which is otherwise known as OHIP. OHIP does not allow for charging or selling private insurance to cover medically necessary services that are covered by OHIP. Gene s thoughts and actions distinguish his personality from that of other characters. Gene hides his true nature in the environment of the novel but exposes himself to the reader through his thinking and reflection. Gene is revealed to be insecure and jealous through his narration of the story. Firstly, Gene s insecurity and jealousy are unveiled through his actions, thinking, and dialogue. By deciphering his reasoning behind his actions, the reader discovers Gene s insecurity thriving beneath the surface. This is seen when Gene s close friend Phineas jokingly admits that Gene becoming valedictorian would make him jealous and Gene reacts by thinking, Then a second realization broke as clearly and bleakly as dawn at the beach. However, this is evidently uncharacteristic of Finny, and implies Gene is misreading and unconsciously manipulating the situation to justify the fact he does not have an A in one of his classes; he blames Finny for this. Gene s conjecture is a result of his attempt to defend himself. Insecurity breeds defensiveness as his poor self confidence allowed him to feel threatened by Finny s joking remarks and took his words sincerely. Due to Gene s defensive response, it displays his weak self confidence, proving his insecurity. Another personality trait Gene possesses is jealousy. Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. In this extinction Australia nineteen genera while the Americas lost over seventy genera. Almost all of these were animals of virtually large sizes (Donald, 1991). The North America witnessed the loss of elephants, camels, horses ground sloths, pronghorn, ovibovids, peccaries and the giant beaver. On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. This type of exposure to noise does not have to be as loud as a gun being fired; it can be as simple as a person shouting across the room. The type of hearing loss is any degree from partial to complete hearing loss. This loss, usually, is permanent and is not satisfactorily corrected by any devices such as, hearing aids. The loss is caused by the destruction of the delicate hair cells and their auditory nerve connections in the Organ of Corti, which is contained in the cochlea (Bugliarello, et al., 1976). Every exposure to loud noise destroys some cells, but prolonged exposure damages a larger amount of cells, and ultimately collapses the Organ of Corti, which causes deafness. Most of society is now aware that noise can damage hearing. However, short of a threat that disaster would overtake the human race if nothing is done about noise, it is unlikely that many people today would become strongly motivated to do something about the problem. Yet, the evidence about the ill effects of noise does not allow for complacency or neglect. For instance, researchers working with children with hearing disorders are constantly reminded of the crucial importance of hearing to children. In the early years the child cannot learn to speak without special training if he has enough hearing loss to interfere effectively with the hearing of words in context ... • 48. Escape In Romantic Poetry Repression and the Desire to Escape in Romantic Poetry Romantic poetry encompasses many things, involving, but not limited to; nature, the sublime, and strong senses of emotion. Many of the romantic poets wrote about nature, and how nature strongly relates to that sense of emotion. Of course when you lack emotion, or you are struck with many negative emotions, romantic poetry shows that nature itself is the remedy that you may require. Not only does romantic poetry show that nature can cure, but it shows that an escape to nature is required in order to understand it, and receive the cure that you seek. It shows that you must abandon your past struggles, and learn to embrace nature. This begs the question; how does romantic poetry attempt to show that nature is the cure to the issues that you currently face? Many of the romantic poets attempt to show that through an escape to nature, you are able to become enlightened. William Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage exhibits a woman (Margaret) who is surrounded by romantics, which is used to contrast that which are her struggles, and her lack of romanticism. This essay will look at the desire to escape the struggles that the characters are facing through a romantic escape to nature. It will display how Wordsworth s The Ruined Cottage conveys a message of escapism to nature as a cure to hardship through a character that fails to escape, as well as how John Keats Ode to a Nightingale shows a character who succeeds with ... • 50. Animal Farm Torture Torture for Traitors and Prizes for Partisans In the fable Animal Farm, George Orwell expresses a clear representation of the Russian Revolution in the form of animals on a farm rebelling against the leaders, pigs. Napoleon s treatment of the animals is dependent on the way Napoleon perceives the animal s dedication. If they accept his leadership they receive their basic needs; whereas, if they rebel against him, their basic needs are not met. This results in all the animals accepting Napoleon s leadership in order to receive their fundamental needs. This is only possible if Napoleon has followers that will aggressively support him or even die in order for Napoleon to succeed. Through Old Benjamin, the hens and the pigs viewpoints on Napoleon s tyranny, it is easily identified which animal supports Napoleon s way of ruling the farm, which oppose him and which animal simply has no opinion. The pigs on Animal farm are among the most loyal supporters of Napoleon s tyranny, which provides them with their basic needs and more. The pigs have no reason to be afraid of Napoleon because since they are on his side, he will always treat the pigs well. This is exemplified when ...the milk and the windfall apples (and also the main crop of apples when they ripened) should be reserved for the pigs alone. (Animal Farm, Page 26). Furthermore, the animals that support Napoleon are treated better and provided with more than their basic needs. This treatment shows the other animals that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The spread of a more urban area and a large numbers of immigrants that stormed into New York created a dynamic of both benefits and downfalls for the government of New York. The force that was coming for workers provided employers extremely cheap day workers, with the belief that the exponential growth of pauperism represented an unnecessary and eradicable evil (pg. 577). Associations were formed for problems across the board, to assist widows and orphans, immigrants and Negroes, debtors and prisoners, aged females and young prostitute . The emancipation was denied and sent back to be revised. With the new revisions, the slaves would not be able to vote and the Assembly agreed on the bill, but it was denied by the Senate. In 1785, there was an organization called the New York Manumission Society that was created to help abolition slavery. This organization began to instill fear into newspaper editors against advertising slave sales. The organization threatened auction houses and ship owners. The organization also provided legal services to slaves that wanted to pursue in suing their slave owners (Cash, 2008). Based on the table, there is an increment of transaction value (in US$m) for both announced and completed mergers and acquisitions in Malaysia. The value of announced mergers and acquisition increase 20.14% from year 2011 to 2012. While the value of completed mergers and acquisitions in Malaysia increase about 48% from year 2011 to 2012. Based on table 1 1, although not all the announced mergers and acquisitions are completed during a year, the percentage of completed mergers and announcements for both years 2011 and 2012 is more than 70% (2011 = 70.32% and 2012 = 72.77%). This is a good indication to a developing country like Malaysia because more than 70% of announced mergers and acquisitions are completed during a year. The increasing value of mergers and acquisitions over the years has motivated this study to examine whether the mergers and acquisitions activities does provide a fair return to the acquirers companies especially in term of the share prices changes. Therefore, it is important to examine whether there is any abnormal returns around the announcement period. However, if the market is efficient, we should expect the impact of mergers and acquisitions only take place on the day of announcement while the other days around the event windows will not generate significance different in abnormal returns. 1.2 Abnormal Returns from Mergers and ...
