madonna Essay
Have you ever heard a song once and was never able to get the tune out of your head no matter how
hard you tried? I know that has happened to me on several occasions. Whether we enjoy the songs or
not, there is something about music within popular culture that drives the American public wild.
Sadly, for quite sometime the music industry was largely closed off to women. Of course there were
obvious exceptions to this, since talented female artists have existed through the ages, but on the
whole there were not many female artists that got a lot of airplay and certainly none were considered
significantly influential in the music industry.
Recently the United States has begun to experience a women s musical renaissance. Women s roles in

Not surprisingly, Madonna has set many of the standards for music videos, and has had over 10
number one singles (Madonna fan club n. pag.). At the time Madonna first arrived on the scene there
hadn t been a strong female icon in music since Billie Holiday. Like Holiday, Madonna turned heads
with her sexy attitude and approach to life, love, and sex. Think what you might about her musical
talent, she pushed the power of female sexuality to the forefront of the public eye, taking it so far as to
present her sexual manifesto in a self published soft core pornography book, entitled quot;Sex quot;.
Anyone who has done the math can figure out that Madonna s days as an active sexual icon are
becoming numbered; add to that her relatively new role as responsible mother, and you now see a new,
cleaned up version of Madonna emerging to take her through the next decade.
The current generation just seems so weak compared to the gains made up until Madonna. don t
constitute great jumps in feminine power, they are wonderful examples of the natural freedom that
Madonna inspired in the generation that watched her on MTV between cartoons.
Although Brittany Spears and Madonna made very different career choices, aspects of their lives and
influence are very similar. Both artists moved to New York at a very young age and performed at
small clubs and bars. Another thing

Limited Liability
Discussion Assignment
You own and operate a small store. Currently, you are a single proprietor.
What kinds of risks and liabilities are you facing?
When a business is run as a single proprietor means that the owner is solely responsible and liable for
the actions of the company. The risk and the liability are that the personal assets such as house, car,
land, or bank savings are also part of the business. There is no legal separation of the assets between
the business and the owner of the business. For example, if the single proprietor defaults on a bank
loan or there is an accident on one of the employees, the owner is the sole responsible. The bank can
seize and liquidate the personal assets for the debts. In addition, the employee who suffered injury for
in a work related accident can sue and held the owner liable. The sole proprietor risks all the personal
assets if there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this risk can be addressed by incorporating the business. There are various options of
incorporation depending on the type of business and goals. The most common are the Limited
Liability Company (LLC), Limited Partnership (LP), Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or
Nonprofit Corporation.
When the sole proprietor incorporates, it gives advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that
the owner can sales shares to investors and raise capital. Moreover, with an incorporated business the
owner and the employees can benefit from health insurance, workers compensation, insurance against
accidents, etc. Another advantage of incorporating the business is that it guarantees the safety of the
personal assets. For example, if there is an accident or the business defaults on the bank loan, only the
business will be liable. The personal assets such as your house or car will not be

Women s Influence On Women Essay
Women s Essay History Sarah Anne Cairns Question: Women received the vote based on their
contribution to the war effort . How accurate is this view that women gained the vote based solely on
war work? 20 marks Attitudes towards women in 1900 were very different from attitudes today. In
1900 women s personality traits were traditionally that they were emotional, untruthful immature, and
so they were seen unfit and unworthy of the vote by men at that time. Many historians argue that there
were many factors which led women to receiving the vote Martin Pugh says the Suffragists were most
important, Paula Bartley argue that pre war changes were important, and Arthur Marwick argues that
war accelerated changing attitudes and believes in the reward theory. Women played many vital roles
in jobs which had to be filled as men left for war, these jobs were dangerous and many women died,
newspapers at the time branded women as heroines for their hard work, as so it can be argued they
were given the vote as a reward. However, there are other factors that may have led women to
receiving the vote, such as pre war attitudes as women were beginning to be better educated and have
better jobs, the Suffragettes and Suffragists were important as they campaigned for women to have the
vote, and finally Foreign Influence as other countries such as Finland had already given women the
vote. Therefore, they may not have received the vote solely on their war effort. Firstly, it can be

Factors That Increase Out Rates And The Importance And...
Literature Review One of the many problems our youth is affected by is the decision not to, or
inability to graduate high school. This paper will emphasize the issues that can influence drop out
rates and the importance and need of an appropriate intervention. Drop out rates, whether difficult to
measure accurately, continue to steadily increase, especially for minorities (low SES students, African
Americans, and Hispanics). Dropping out of high school is a very significant issue, not just for the
individual itself, but also for society (Rumberger, 1983). Research shows that students who drop out
are more likely to be unemployed, or have low skilled/low paying jobs (Christle, Jolivette, Nelson,
2007). The problems do not stop there; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychological factors also play an important role in Rumberger s study; findings have shown that high
levels of confidence, sociability and educational aspirations can distinguish graduate students from
dropouts. Among other important factors linked to possible dropouts are family backgrounds, and
school settings. Families have a great impact when it comes to school interest and the motivation to
stay in school. One study by Hill and Stafford (1977) shows that better educated parents have shown
to influence their children s educational aspirations and drive to stay in school (Rumberger, 1983). In
addition, a strong parent children communication about their parental expectations for their children s
education has shown a relationship to school achievement (Strom Boster, 2007). And important
finding shows that even if children are doing poorly in school, those whose parents were involved in
their children s education and decisions, were less likely that those with low parental involvement, to
drop out of school (Rumberger, Ghatak, Poulos, Ritter, Dornbush, 1990). Schools play a very
important role as well; students can lose motivation and become less engaged in school if they cannot
find a connection with their school. Studies show that the majority of high school dropouts are
associated with disengagement from school (Christle et al., 2007). Teachers have the ability to
influence their students motivation to stay in school as well. Students who

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that
were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The
Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for
ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us
abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system.
If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have
common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well
put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager
of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the
ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because
ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of
us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer
for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but
because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to
succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.
Specifically, I am going to look at the writing that we

Teaching English As A Language Essay
INTRODUCTION
English seems to have joined this list of basic skills. Quite simply, its function and place in the
curriculum is no longer that of foreign language and this is bringing about profound changes in who is
learning English, their motives for learning it and their needs as learners. (Graddol, D, page 72)
If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in
particular for native speakers of English.
The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who
speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can
bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118)
English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use
with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on.
The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new
knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese
and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the
multifunctional use that characterizes English today.
Graddol (2006:62) also states that English is no longer the only show in town . It is convenient for
many learners have few grammatical endings and vocabulary derived from both Romance and
Germanic root, but it is

How Reading And Writing Has Affected My Life
Reading and writing is a significant component of life; in fact, an enormous amount of people benefit
from the ability to read and write. Books may either express a story or may enlighten a person on a
certain subject; just as, writing gives people the ability to express their feelings or write a story for
entertainment. Likewise, there are numberless ways reading and writing can either express feeling or
generate hours of entertainment. Writing is a way I keep myself busy when I have something on my
mind. In addition, reading and writing has impacted my life by helping to improve my speech,
expanding my knowledge, allowing me read the letters I received from my grandparents and write
them back and providing countless hours of entertainment. First, Reading has aided my speech since I
was a young child. As a young child, I had issues pronouncing words which made it difficult for
people to understand what I was saying; therefore, I was enrolled in speech therapy to help resolve the
problem. In addition, a segment of my speech therapy was reading books out loud. Subsequently, I
learned that reading out loud forces me to slow down when speaking and pronounce ... Show more

Reading those letters made me happy as a kid and without the ability to read I would not have those
memories. In addition the skill of writing provided me with a way to write my grandparents back.
Similarly, writing them back was a highlight of my childhood due to the fact I got to talk to them. I
still have the letters they sent and I will always have them, exposed to reading and writing as a young
child improved my vocabulary by a tremendous amount, while it brought me closer to my
grandparents. I improve my vocabulary every day by reading a book or looking up the word of the day

What Does Masculine Mean To Me
Masculine to me means that not only are you physically strong mentally and emotionally strong. It
also means that you carry yourself with confidence and humility and compassion. To me it s important
that a male is able to express his emotions without feeling weak. To me, masculine, means to respect
others no matter what circumstance and be responsible.
I get my idea of what it means to be a good man from my own believes, some of my family ideas, and
from the Bible. I believe that these characteristics decide what a man is: Educated, hard working,
compassionate, humble, taking responsibility for their own , loving, and brave. Even being
emotionally vulnerable is another characteristic that describes a man to me.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd )
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder:
A Brief Overview Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder that is characterized
by constant intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that normally cause anxiety or distress which can only be
alleviated by performing repetitive actions (compulsions) (Rahimi, Haghighi, and Shamsaei, 2015).
Nearly everyone has experienced something similar to these obsessions and compulsions at some
point in their life but this experience can only be labeled as OCD when it occurs at least one hour per
day and correlates with high levels of distress (Abramowitz et al., 2010). It s important to distinguish
the differences between the actual psychological disorder and informal use of the term OCD. For
example, many people claim they have OCD because they are particular about how something is done
such as doing the dishes or making the bed in the morning. However, true sufferers of this disorder
suffer from great anxiety and torment from their obsessions and cannot restrain themselves from
giving in to their compulsions (Huffman Dowdell, 2004, p. 462). OCD, according to the World Health
Organization, is among the top ten most disabling medical conditions (Rahimi et al., 2015). There are
two main components to obsessive compulsive disorder: obsessions and compulsions. The first
component, obsessions, are unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that will constantly plague
an individual s mind and cause tem a great source of anxiety and

Before a participation process can be designed and implemented, one must determine if there is a
problem to begin with. I would argue the need for judgment links to tyranny. The person setting the
table for a potential process has control over how the problem is framed and if there is a problem to
begin with. Perhaps the public needs to be involved in even the planning process of the process itself?
Could this look like a group of stakeholders? If the goal is to create a horizontal, people controlled
system of decision making? A compromise that deals with the challenge articulated above is some
form of power devolution. It s not an invitation to have too many cooks in the kitchen ; rather
devolution promotes the decentralization of power and decision making. The creation of public action
unites in neighborhoods or delineated ecosystems habits addresses the need to get the public involved
and may increase the perceived legitimacy and hope that the community could actually effect change.
All of this exists within the context of the state and under guidelines to support accountability. ...

Compare And Contrast The Movie And Beowulf Essay
Comparative Essay: Beowulf The Book and The Movie
Beowulf, a hero, which is a savior figure. He stands up for a cause and belief against great odds. When
Beowulf was composed, England was changing from a pagan to a Christian culture. Beowulf reflects
both pagan and Christian traditions. In this essay, I will compare the 2007 British American 3D
motion film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Neil Gaines And Roger Avary, and also the
book version mentioning the personality of Beowulf, Grendel, Grendel s mom and the battle with the
dragon. In the movie and poem Beowulf s personality is shown differently and expressed in a different
form. In the movie and poem Beowulf there was many differences and similarities that were
noticeable such as the portrayal of Grendel s mother, Grendel being the son of Hrothgar, and Beowulf
s battle with the dragon.
In the 2007 movie, other than the setting and plot, it was totally different from the original poem, It
was very entertaining but didn t follow the original poem. Grendel s mother was a beautiful Angelina
Jolie while in the book she was very often described as a grimy slimy monster. The similarities were
when Beowulf s heroic characteristics and the severing of Grendel s arm ; however, the movie
mentioned the seductive scene of Grendel s mother and how the product of this sin is his son the
dragon, while in the text this beast is regarded as a rogue monster. As mentioned in the poem, Beowulf
arose, with his men around him,

Summary Of The Essay Homeless Man Interviews Himself
Erin Powell
Rhetoric Composition 101 001
Ms. Armstead
January 17, 2015
Homeless Man Interviews Himself? by Albert Bliss
Based on reading the article, Homeless Man Interviews Himself by Albert Bliss, I have come to the
conclusion that this is overall an example of Closed Form Writing. I firmly believe that this article
conforms to the basis of the closed form writing style but it dabbles in the open formed style of
writing. There are several examples in the essay that convince me of this.
First of all, there is a thesis in the first paragraph of the article letting the reader know what is going to
happen. The thesis was I have just finished lunch and I feel like interviewing myself. Since the
interviewer and interviewee is the same person, I have split myself in half. I call the interviewer
Mister Bliss and the interviewee Al. This lets me as the reader know that I am going to be reading an
interview. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance the article is set up a question and answer format, which guides me through the interview.
Secondly every question the interviewer asked was based off of the previous answer given by the
interviewee . By doing this the writer has given the reader a clear guide and a deeper understanding of
the essay. For example when the Mister Bliss asked Al why he felt like the homeless men he had once
spied on as an adolescent he considered heroes. Al responded with great reasoning that he felt as if
those men had reminded him of the some of the great pioneers he was learning about in school; Daniel
Boone, Davy Crockett, and Jim

Kandinsky Vs Klee
Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had started
their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is easier to
compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by each other. Such
as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s Black Increasing and
Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four painting would be the artworks to compare. Two artists
have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but
also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red
sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute;
Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the
pause in a harmonious melody. (Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same
way, Klee was a musician which found the resemblance between art and music.

The Gospel Of Luke And The Gospel Of Luke
The Gospel of Luke is the third book in the canon of the New Testament and the final of the synoptic
Gospels. While the Gospel of Matthew does contain more chapters, Luke is the longest of the four
Gospels, with the most verses and most words out of all four Gospels in the New Testament. Luke
encompasses the full lifespan of Christ: his conception, birth, childhood, adulthood, ministry,
crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The Gospel of Luke also contains many parables that Jesus
told during his earthly ministry, along with miracles that Jesus performed during this time. The Gospel
of Luke is a vibrant book that gives believers insight in the life of Jesus Christ.
Authorship Though the author of the Gospel of Luke is not named within the Gospel itself, critics
agree that the author of the Gospel of Luke is Luke, a physician. Paul refers to Luke as the beloved
physician in Colossians 4:14. Luke is credited as being the author of the book of Acts, and was a
frequent companion of the Apostle Paul; there is evidence that Paul was with Luke during both of his
Roman imprisonments (2 Timothy 4:11 and Philemon 24). The reason for the anonymity of authorship
is likely that the recipient (Theophilus) would know who the author was, and thus there was no need
for self identification during the time of composition. Luke may have also acted out of humility by not
identifying himself as the author of this Gospel.
Luke, being a physician and a learned man, possessed tremendous

Marcus Linius Crassus
The Life of Marcus Linius Crassus
Marcus Linius Crassus was one of the most rich and powerful Romans during his time. He was rich
with both money and slaves, but mostly in victories, for he won many battles as a general whilst
working for Sulla. This man made a phenomenal impact on the lives of many Romans, including his
colleagues Gaius Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompey, but he also destroyed many as well. In the year of
115 BC, Marcus was born, taking his place in his miniscule house that already held two of his
brothers, and their families, and both of his parents. Though born within a minute household, that did
not stop Crassus from doing great things, for when Crassus was in his late twenties, he and the

The History Of Heroin
Heroin, which is a very popular drug of choice in the American drug culture today, is not a new drug
that just showed up in the late 1960 s, nor are its negative effects unique to modern times. Heroin is an
opium derivative and, as with any of the opium derivatives, there is a severe physical/mental
dependency that develops when Heroin is abused.
The Birth of the American Heroin Addict
In the mid to late 1800 s, opium was a fairly popular drug. Opium dens were scattered throughout
what we know today as the Wild West. The opium influx during this period was due in large part to
the drug being brought into the country via Chinese immigrants who came here to work on the
railroads.

Even though no actual statistics were kept on addiction at this time, the problem had grown to large
enough proportions to raise serious concerns from the medical profession. Doctors became perplexed
and were completely in the dark as to how to treat this new epidemic.
By 1874 the answer to this increasing problem was thought to be found in the invention of a new drug
in Germany. This new wonder drug was called Heroin, after its German trademarked name. Heroin
was imported into the United States shortly after it was invented. The sales pitch that created an
instant market to American doctors and their morphine addicted patients was that Heroin was a safe,
non addictive substitute for morphine.
Hence, the heroin addict was born and has been present in American culture ever since.
From the late 1800 s to the early 1900 s the reputable drug companies of the day began manufacturing
over the counter drug kits. These kits contained a glass barreled hypodermic needle and vials of
opiates (morphine or heroin) and/or cocaine packaged neatly in attractive engraved tin cases.
Laudanum (opium in an alcohol base) was also a very popular elixir that was used to treat a variety of
ills. Laudanum was administered to kids and adults alike as freely as aspirin is used

Zealand. This review will be looking specifically at the effects of new technology which could
revolutionise milking on dairy farms through the use of robots milking cows in situ in the paddocks.
To explore the change issues related to this, this review explores its potential effects on labourers
within the farming sector, farm managing change, the relationship between farmer and animal (farmer
cow), impact on current farming practices, and costs versus return on investment into new technology.
The study of the topics at hand are of importance, as critically assessing and informing technological
innovation processes, and to assess if both cows and farmers will lead better and healthier lives or is
the current information on automated milking systems merely formed from consultants sales pitch
(Drissen.C Heutinck.L.H.M 2014)? There is however during the research process it was revealed that
there is a sever lack of literature on robotic milking of cows when in situ, studies into this should be
conducted to further this product. Technological advancements and its effects Neil Postman (1998)

Economic Liberalisation Of India And India
Economic liberalisation in India
India is a country which was and still is diverse in terms of cultures, languages, ethics and beliefs.
During the 1970 1990 when the British rule had just been over in India, it soon started to face
problems in their balance of payments. By the end of 1990, it was in a serious economic crisis. The
government was close to bankruptcy, the central bank of India had refused new credit and foreign
exchange reserves had been depleted to a point where India could barely finance three weeks worth of
imports which made the Indian government airlift the nations gold reserves as a pledge to the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) in exchange for a loan to cover its balance of payment debts.
The main causes of the crisis was 1) currency overvaluation,2) the current account deficit, and the
confidence of investors played a significant role in the sharp exchange rate depreciation/devaluation.
The economic crisis was primarily due to the large and growing fiscal imbalances over 1980 1985...
During 1985 1886, India started to have balance of payments problems. Precipitated by the Gulf War,
India s oil import bill increased, exports decreased, credit dried up, and investors that had invested
their money in India took their money out. Large fiscal deficits, over the time, had a huge spill over
effect on the trade deficit, culminating in an external payments crisis. By the end of the 90 s, India was
in deep economic trouble. The gross fiscal deficit of the

states in the Western bisection would be recognized as acts of animosity, requiring U.S. mediation. The

Jean Pierre Corteggiani From The French Institute Of...
Jean Pierre Corteggiani from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology states that the Nile is
therefore life itself to Egypt. He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing
without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian
civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers
from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile
river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried to
keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases in the
water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was that gods
spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to agriculture. As new
techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production increased as well.
Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden age of ancient
Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a pharaoh could
have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. Under their commands, gigantic pyramids
were constructed. However, the logic of the edification of those pyramids and their builders are still a
mystery. All that is known is that the construction of the mausoleum required high technical

Language Delays In Autism
Language Delays in Autism Spectrum Disorder
Bethany Perez
Colorado State University Autism spectrum disorder is caused by abnormalities in the brain. Many
children that qualify under the autism spectrum disorder, often experience developmental delays in
three areas of development. Socially/emotionally, as well as cognitively, children with ASD are unable
to progress at a normal rate of development compared to their peers. The level of communication due
to language delays can be severely affected as well for children with autism. Children can also exhibit
repetitive, unusual behaviors. Those affected by the disorder thrive on consistency, and predictability
in the classroom setting. Because of the impaired language skills, visual approaches to classroom
instruction are very beneficial for the students (Ormrod, 2011). When considering the development of
someone with autism, a common issue is the social stimuli associated with language development.
Often the social effects of having autism affect other areas of development as well. Researchers have
related the increased viewing of stimuli to skin conductance responses, and their association with
language development in autism. A study was conducted on 32 children with ASD; this set of children
was divided into two groups based on their language histories, and how they acquired their onset of
symptoms. A typically developing set of children was matched with the group of 32. Skin conductance

Essay on Bus310 Accounting Theory and Accountability
BUS310 ACCOUNTING THEORY AND ACCOUNTABILITY WORKSHOP 1 SOLUTIONS 1)
GHHT: Chapter 1: Theory in Action 1.1 The article describes how a particular theoretical approach
has been replaced by another. Explain why one theory replaces another, and who, or what, determines
whether an existing theory survives. A theory is primarily meant to explain or predict an event,
behaviour or outcome. Proponents of a theory look for evidence to support the theory. This evidence
should be independently observed and consistent after repeated observations. Some theories are
speculative or ideas or guesses floated to encourage researchers to undertake the observations required
to prove or disprove the theory. The question often debated is what comes ... Show more content on

Theories about how the economy works and what will happen in the economy where there is
monetary policy or fiscal policy intervention are appropriate in assisting policy makers understand the
possible implications of decisions they make or are under consideration. However, they are rarely
complete models and often outcomes cannot be predicted. Reintroduction of a theory suggests that
new evidence in support of the theory has been reported. 3. Should a theory be discarded if it does not
specify the means of achieving a stated objective? Explain your answer. The theory itself doesn t have
to specify the means of achieving a stated objective; however, it has to provide a sound basis for
explaining, defining and predicting behaviour. The application of the theory can have many elements
and it is in the interpretation of what will induce the predicted effects in the economy predicted by the

The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves
Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric
charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely
portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions, which were
obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and
movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate
Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well
as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the electrical in electrical designing
and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his
famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic
waves in every day life (Becker Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was
that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even
though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in
space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with
the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has

This could potentially be the vacuum or circuit in Hurston s life that attested for her fame in the
Harlem Renaissance. The war generals were also very significant people in the development of
Eatonville and neighboring towns. Now, these founders were, to a man, people who had risked their
lives and fortunes that Negroes might be free. Those who had fought in the ranks had thrown their
weight behind the cause of Emancipation (5). This demonstration of leadership and uncertainty are
characteristics that Hurston posses. So, in a raw, bustling frontier, the experiment of self government

Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And...
Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely
completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation
of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in
first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the
culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole
continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A
satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild
landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying
babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain
light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in
general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in
particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved
and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. A recent

Yersinia pestis Bacteria Virulence and Symptoms
Yersinia pestis appeared fairly early in history and is still prevailing today. Humans have come in
contact with this bacterium in massive outbreaks throughout history, including the most famous Black
Death of the 14th century. From the lack of knowledge of the bacteria and its ability to infect
populations rapidly, the human race has suffered immensely. The bacterium is specialized with
specific plasmids, Yersinia outer proteins as well as other toxins that it uses to disrupt the body s
immune response. Through this, Yersinia pestis avoids harm and effectively infects the circulatory
system of its host causing three forms of the plague: Bubonic, Pneumonic and Septicemic. Each form

This rapidly deadly disease, characterized by these certain factors, enable the bacterium to eventually
lead the host into a painful death. 2
The bacteria, Yersinia pestis, is encoded with two specific plasmids that aid in the transfer and survival
of the bacteria, especially in the wild. Both of these plasmids must be present on the bacteria for full
virulence of the organism. The largest of the extrachromosomal elements, with typical strains of ~100
kb, is the Murine toxin plasmid (pFra), a capsule protein. pFra is characterized by two specific factors:
FI capsular protein antigen and YMT. The second plasmid, Pesticin plasmid named pPla after the
plasminogen activator, happens to be the smallest of the plasmids. The bacteriocin (pesticin;Pst) and
the bilanolysin and coagulase activities are found to be connected with one another and aids the
former organism of Yersinia in the invasion of the host from peripheral sites (Carniel 41). After the
bacteria is injected through a bite of the rat flea, Yersinia pestis affects the immune system similar to
the bacterial agent, Bacillis anthracis. By having a Type III secretion system, the bacteria are able to
find a means ? to target virulence factors directly at host cells . The common Yersinia encoded plasmid
molecule, pYV (or pLcr), found on the bacteria specifically aids in the injection of cytotoxic proteins
into the macrophages, preventing the

Symbolism and the Concious and Uncounsius Mind in The...
Symbolism has a powerful effect on both the conscious and unconscious mind. Conspicuous
symbolism engages the conscious mind making one think about the many clever connections the
author has made. Symbolism of the more subtle variety can have just as much of an effect on the
reader; even though the reader may miss an intentional connection made by the author, they are likely
to detect it subliminally. This can have a profound impact on the readers understanding and impression
of a work. In his novel The Assault, a novel about the consequences of a particular dramatic event that
occurred during World War II where the main character s house was incinerated and all of his close

wisdom of Truus. Anton strengthens Truus s assertion by commenting on the antithesis, But if that s

at the end of episode 2 when Anton entertains Fake Ploeg, Ploeg is introduced as having come in from
the night from the chaos of a riot. This emphasizes his disorganized mind as he tries to explain to
Anton the innocence of his father. However, he is unable to convince Anton because his origins seem
to come from the darkness of the past, and because what he says is directly contrary to what Truus

example of how Mulisch is able to either support or discount an argument he presents by the
symbolism associated with the character making it.
Mulisch uses references to darkness as well as small seemingly unimportant details that reach in a
conspicuous manner to impact the reader. The most important instance of this is the referenceto the
darkness within the neighboring houses, as the windows are closed in covered to avoid any
confrontation with the Krauts. During the original description of the assault nothing is revealed about
what is happening within the neighboring houses the only description of the actual houses was that

Academic Characteristics Of Hip Hop Culture
The purpose of this paper is to explore the major characteristics of hip hop studies, how they have
evolved over the years, and how hip hop can be used to teach others. To begin, a great summary of the
major characteristics of hip hop studies is The Kaledioscope of Writing on Hip Hop Culture by Gail
Hilson Woldu. For instance, in his book Woldu discusses the academic characteristic of hip hop
studies (Woldu, 10). The author gives several examples of major works that have come from academic
writing. He also goes into great detail about what they each focus on. For example, Woldu mentions
Black Noise from author Tricia Rose as being a book that falls into the academic characteristic of hip
hop studies (Woldu, 13). Woldu states, .... this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, these are simply a few the many examples provided by Woldu. All of these examples go to
show that the journals are a major characteristic.
Finally, the last major characteristic of hip hop studies that Woldu discusses is what he calls the
devotees (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, All are clearly more than devotees in the sense that they are far
more than fans or hip hop groupies (Would, 30). Examples that he provides are, for instance, Bill
Adler (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, Bill Adler, a former rap publicist...wrote a biography of rappers Run
DMC (woldu, 31). Another example is Nelson George. According to Woldu, the recipient of two
ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards and an American Book Award, George is the author of eight nonfiction
books on African American culture... (Woldu, 31). Again, these examples go to show that this is a
major characteristic of hip hop studies.
Aside from simply looking at the major characteristics, one can also examine the ways in which they
have evolved. For instance, one can dive into the evolution of the academic characteristic. One major
way in which these characteristics have evolved is simply by the topics they cover. When looking at
what was commonly talked about back in the early days of hip hop, and then compare it to the topics
discussed today one will notice a difference. That main difference being that the topics are very
thoughtful and look for deeper meaning.

In a world where trade is increasingly becoming digitalized online, there are new and challenging
strategies emerging. This essay aims to analyze and determine these strategies. Considering the

them to decide which strategies work in this market and how, in the future, they can keep a
competitive edge as the market continuously changes. However, as Amazon and eBay have eventually

EBay s business strategy originally used a two sided platform, founder, Pierre Omidyar (1995),
developed the firm out of, what he saw as a, need or niche in the market that needed accommodating.
This niche was to develop lower search costs and find a way to determine a fair price in the industry.
(I.e. a working price mechanism) Due to high search costs the used goods and collectables market had
suffered a stifled growth. Whereas the lack of a price mechanism in the market meant products were
sold primarily through bilateral negotiation, through buyer and seller. This was an issue as it didn t
reveal the true prices in the market as little or no competition prevented competitive pricing strategies
from emerging. However, the emergence of eBay s auctions feature transformed Bi Lateral trades into
Multi Lateral trades, facilitating efficient price discoveries. (R.Salehnejad, 2012, Note 3) In 2003 eBay
introduced fixed prices using the buy it now function in which eBay still benefited from a listing and
commission fee. This effectively ensured that the merchant always got the price they wanted for a
good, not necessarily the market price it deserved. Furthermore, in 2001 eBay introduced eBay Stores
allowing firms to offer its products at fixed prices through the eBay site, such as the Home Depot in
the USA. Here it is clear that eBay was moving into Amazon s territory as an online retailer and

The Lament Of The Queen Of Sweden
The Lament of the Queen of Sweden
Luigi Rossi was employed in the Borghese court in Rome in 1620. The seventeenth century in Rome
marked an increase in the level of musical productivity. Some of the finest musicians including
Frescobaldi, Marlo Mazzocchi, Savioni and Carissimi were active in Rome at this time. Another
incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by Rossi s
works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. In 1641, Ottavio Castelli sent
Cardinal Richelieu a copy of Ferito un cavaliere, (a Wounded Knight) recommending it to Jules
Mazarin. This piece was composed by Rossi as a lament of the Queen of Sweden set to a text by Fabio

Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by this
time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant downward
motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence became so strongly
associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or further embellishments was
not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the lament to be heard and identified. The
ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in
particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara
Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the
Queen of Sweden lament seems to be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she
sings in a sort of emotional frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! (datemi per
pietade un che m uccida) The music of the refrain also corresponds with the emotions using affective
dissonances The idea that the queen wishes for someone to kill her rather than live in a world without
her King husband is an indicator of how distraught and hysterical she had become and hints at her
mental instability in the period after his death. The lament itself is moving and effective. As rage
overcomes the queen at the injustice of Gustavus death she implores the people to take up arms and
submerge the earth in torrents of blood, may every town be torched at your hands, may every province
burn, kill, wound, do not spare the wicked ones in order to avenge his death. The music changes to
highlight her rage and then her incessant despair appropriately matching her tone lending a unique air

Hellenistic Monks
A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and
chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This
brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three characteristics
of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life.
Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours of the
day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the Rosary,
Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and Offices as
spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the Office, the
observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the heart of the
Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of the Church
that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This profile is on the black tailed prairie dog. It will be introducing their background, life cycle,
structure and function, evolution and an additional interest. It will also be going over their unique
social structure and the way they form communities called prairie towns, which are a large system of
burrows. The importance of burrows, in particular, to the black tailed prairie dog cannot be overstated.
Black Tailed Prairie Dogs
The black tailed prairie dog s scientific name is Cynomys ludovicianus that, colorfully, means dog
mouse of Louisiana. It lives in North America in the Great Plains region of the United States. Its
territory stretches all the way to the borders of Canada and Mexico, but not to the coasts. The black
tailed prairie dog is the most common and prolific of all prairie dogs, and has the largest territory.
Prairie dog towns, a system of burrows that are close together and can span miles, are subdivided into
wards, coteries, and individuals on a downward sliding scale depending on population size.
Life Cycle
Mating
The breeding season of black tailed prairie dogs varies depending on the temperature of their locale. In
warmer climates, breeding season may begin in what is still technically the winter. In colder climates,
the breeding season may not come until March. The breeding season is a once a year event that starts
when the lengthening hours of daylight after the winter solstice trigger onset of estrus (Graves, 2001).

was an accomplishment as far as the overarching markets conditions, unmistakably Information and
Communications Technologies ( ICT ), E Commerce and Advancement in Software give the chance to
drastically adjust the path in which people and undertakings can seek after their goals. ICT has
evacuated the land and fleeting obstructions that oblige the operations of any undertaking. Among the
improvements of ICT is the presentation of better, quicker and less expensive PCs that everybody
could have admittance to, scaling down and versatile/compact PCs and progression in transmission
media. Quicker and all the more capable PC has been ascribed to individuals like Moore s (see Moore
s Law chart beneath) and nanotechnology (fabricate PC frameworks with mole amounts of rationale
components that are atomic in both size and accuracy and are interconnected in complex and
exceedingly eccentric examples). Scaling down innovation has presented the scratch pad or portable
PC phone is lightweight yet as capable as normal desktop PC. Tablet PC then again is an exceptional
sort of journal that uses an advanced pen. A significantly littler form of the Tablet PC is the secluded
PC. Three prominent cell phones these days are handheld PC, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and

Essay On The Equality For All Act
DISCUSSION The state of North Carolina infringed upon Joe Smith s 14th Amendment rights. In
addition to this, the state disregarded their own statute recognized as The Equality for all Act. North
Carolina violated this statute by discriminating against Joe Smith based on his race, gender, national
origin, religion, and financial means. This will be substantiated by exercising three components, strict
scrutiny (race, national origin, and/or religion), intermediate scrutiny (age and/or gender), and rational
basis (everything else). # 1. Strict scrutiny: A socially non discriminating law that is implemented in a
discriminatory modus operandi on the basis of race, is an infringement on the Equal Protection Clause
of the 14th Amendment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Washington Superior Court sided with DeFunis and instructed the University of Washington Law
School to admit him in the fall of 1971. The Washington Supreme Court reversed this ruling of the
prior court. With this in mind, the law school had done nothing unconstitutional. In regards to, their
admissions policy. In DeFunis v Odegaard, 416 U.S. 312 (1974) did the law school deny DeFunis
equal protection. The simple answer would be yes, nonetheless, because he was in his last year and
going to receive his degree anyway, the case was ruled moot. Supreme Court Justice Brennan
dissented from this case. Under the pretense that, if DeFunis flunked out of school or became ill and
could not return, he would have to go through the admissions process all over again. In addition to
this, ruling the case not moot would save the court from repetitious litigation in future cases.
Consequently, this would not be the last time that the University of Washington Law School would
racially discriminate against an individual. See Smith v. University of Washington Law School, 392
F.3d 367 (9th Cir. 2004). In a news release, The Washington State Office of the Attorney General
stated that, The Smith case stems from a former UW Law School admissions policy under which the
school sought to promote ethnic diversity in the student body by considering an applicant s race as one
of several plus factors in decisions on law school admissions . Even though, race or nationality

Young People Need To Be Done In The World Today
In the world today, there are many things that are needed to be done in the lives of people and in the
environment. This world needs leaders and people who are willing to stand up for things that need to
be done to make this world better. For instance, there are many young people today who are being
influenced in the wrong way, such as smoking, selling drugs, and sex, that is leading them down the
wrong path for their future. Imagine if a team of leaders are engaging with the young people to help
them enjoy life and leading them down the right path to be very successful in the future. As a result,
this would bring tremendous impact to the world on the youth. Even though, this is not the only thing
that needs to be done in the world today, this

Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Nicolo...
When you do something wrong and you are afraid of the consequences, there is usually one parent
that you would prefer to get scolded by. This is because they are the one that is more lenient or
clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The
Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises.
Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In
the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect
based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel
because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him.
Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his
subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at
night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his
mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two
so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile
time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate.
(Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at
Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment.
Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to
demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too
much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss
clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a
prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty;
because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow
disorders to arise... (Machiavelli 1). What the quote means is that there

Essay The Current Status of Medical Marijuana
In the year 2008, Michigan voted in the use of marijuana for medical purposes. I will be exploring two
papers, the first is Prohibition Works: Keeping Marijuana Illegal, the second is Legalization of
Marijuana. In the paper Prohibition Works the author discusses numerous reasons marijuana should be
kept illegal, and the second paper Legalization of Marijuana the author makes many valid points on
why marijuana should be legalized for medical use. Michigan now joins 15 other states that have
passed laws for consumption of marijuana for medical purposes. Both marijuana and medical
marijuana are the same substance. In this paper I will discuss how the federal government views the
use of marijuana, how doctors argue their case whether they are ... Show more content on

WebMD has an article that lists the psychological effects of marijuana over a short time are: paranoia,
time distortion, anxiety, depression random thoughts, and memory loss. There is also withdrawal in
some patients can include: appetite loss, anxiety, depression, and aggression (Amal Chakraburtty,
2010). These side effects hold true to users of marijuana whether they use it legally with the medical
marijuana card or if they are using this drug without the medical marijuana card.
The federal government does not seem to be changing their laws when it comes to marijuana. Andre
Kratzer makes reference to some doctors that believe marijuana is good for pain reduction, it can
increase appetite, and calms down nausea (Kratzer, 2004). Even though some of the side effects are
negative doctors look at the negatives and positives and weigh them out. If the positive effects are
more of a benefit than the negative then they will suggest medical marijuana for that patient. The list
for benefits of marijuana include but are not limited to cancer patients being treated with
chemotherapy, AIDS patients that have lost their appetite, it is also said to be helpful in the relief of
pain for MS patients, along with helping to slow the progression of glaucoma. However, doctors that
are against the use of marijuana look at the bad side effects and decide that there is no medical

Running Shoes Research Paper
Running is a great way to keep fit and can be a lot of fun, too. It is very important to make sure you
have the correct equipment before you start and one of the most important investments is a good pair
of running shoes. They can improve your running gait and prevent injuries. There are thousands of
different running shoes to choose from and most of the big sports manufacturers invest money into the
science and technology of running shoes.
Running Shoe Components
A running shoe comprises an outsole, a midsole, an upper, a heel counter and a post or footbridge.
Apart from that, running shoes vary enormously in design and color. A running shoe has to be flexible
and durable, control motion and absorb shock. It is best to buy your shoes from a specialist running
shop, or at least a sports shop, so you can get good advice from the sales staff. Try on shoes in the
afternoon, when your feet are slightly larger.
Each person has slightly different feet, so a great shoe for someone else might not necessarily be the
best one for you. The shape of your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have a look at your wet footprint on the bathmat when you get out of the bath. If you see a full
imprint, this means you are flat footed. If there is an arch cutaway, your foot is normal. If there is a
very narrow band or no band between the front and back of the foot, you have high arches. Foot type
affects which sort of running shoes will be better for you. The normal foot tends to be the most
biomechanically efficient and you will need shoes with moderate motion control. If you have high
arches, avoid stability or motion control shoes, as these will limit foot mobility. If your feet are flat,
high stability or motion control shoes with firm midsoles will reduce the amount your foot naturally
rolls in and be more comfortable and better for you. Avoid highly curved or cushioned shoes if your
feet are flat, as they will restrict

Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, And Frederick...
When a group of people get together, with the same wants and needs, they become so motivated that
they will not be stopped by anyone to change what must be changed. Throughout the mid 1800 s, to
the mid 1900 s, black men and women, along with white women, were all struggling to change what
they believed was wrong. While white women and African Americans both struggled to have equality
with white men. Historic leaders like Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Frederick
Douglass, are only three people, but influenced an entire nation to help make a great changes. In
Sojourner Truth s speech, Ain t I a Woman? , Truth speaks out about women s equality. Truth tells her
audience, And ain t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and
gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain t I a woman? (2). Sojourner Truth is telling
the crowd that men aren t even on the same level as women. During this time period women were
looked at as dainty, and sub men, but Truth explains to the audience that women are definitely equal, if
not greater, than men. Truth proves women are equal to men once again by stating that, ... he says
women can t have as much rights as men, cause Christ wasn t a woman! Where did your Christ come
from?... From God and a woman! (2). Truth uses a great tool here to grab her audience s attention. By
tying religion, a credible topic, to her argument of equality, she practically squashes any doubt in the

Cultural Norms And Expectations In Dead Poet s Society
Critically acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle as absolutely marvelous affirmation of
independent spirit, Dead Poets Society follows a group of teenage boys in a New England preparatory
school setting. Robin Williams stars as a poetry professor, whose unorthodox teaching style urges his
students to discover and reach their own self actualization through understanding poetry. While this
film culture may seem to be an inaccurate representation of the majority of the population, themes of
Social Psychology successfully portray how people interact everyday. Examples such as minority
influence, how a person can influence a situation and vice versa, and the need to be individual often
proceed unnoticed in our everyday life, despite being prevalent quite frequently in our daily
interactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, he is often trivialized as daft, but quickly gains the respect of his students. Williams teaching
style differs from the norm, which attracts the unwanted attention of other teachers at the school, who
scorn Williams for breaking the culture of the school. Because this is a preparatory school, as opposed
to a public school, the situational strength to conform to the norm is quite high, but Williams does not
conform to a simplistic teaching style. Self actualization is reached by specific characters who follow
Williams character of a charismatic leader, who later rebel against the majority of the culture and seize
the day, while Williams is banished from the school for threatening the established culture of the

Whether we enjoy the songs or not, there is something about music within popular culture that drives the American public wild. Sadly, for quite sometime the music industry was largely closed off to women. Of course there were obvious exceptions to this, since talented female artists have existed through the ages, but on the whole there were not many female artists that got a lot of airplay and certainly none were considered significantly influential in the music industry. Recently the United States has begun to experience a women s musical renaissance. Women s roles in pop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not surprisingly, Madonna has set many of the standards for music videos, and has had over 10 number one singles (Madonna fan club n. pag.). At the time Madonna first arrived on the scene there hadn t been a strong female icon in music since Billie Holiday. Like Holiday, Madonna turned heads with her sexy attitude and approach to life, love, and sex. Think what you might about her musical talent, she pushed the power of female sexuality to the forefront of the public eye, taking it so far as to present her sexual manifesto in a self published soft core pornography book, entitled quot;Sex quot;. Anyone who has done the math can figure out that Madonna s days as an active sexual icon are becoming numbered; add to that her relatively new role as responsible mother, and you now see a new, cleaned up version of Madonna emerging to take her through the next decade. The current generation just seems so weak compared to the gains made up until Madonna. don t constitute great jumps in feminine power, they are wonderful examples of the natural freedom that Madonna inspired in the generation that watched her on MTV between cartoons. When a business is run as a single proprietor means that the owner is solely responsible and liable for the actions of the company. The risk and the liability are that the personal assets such as house, car, land, or bank savings are also part of the business. There is no legal separation of the assets between the business and the owner of the business. How accurate is this view that women gained the vote based solely on war work? 20 marks Attitudes towards women in 1900 were very different from attitudes today. In 1900 women s personality traits were traditionally that they were emotional, untruthful immature, and so they were seen unfit and unworthy of the vote by men at that time. Many historians argue that there were many factors which led women to receiving the vote Martin Pugh says the Suffragists were most important, Paula Bartley argue that pre war changes were important, and Arthur Marwick argues that war accelerated changing attitudes and believes in the reward theory. Women played many vital roles in jobs which had to be filled as men left for war, these jobs were dangerous and many women died, newspapers at the time branded women as heroines for their hard work, as so it can be argued they were given the vote as a reward. However, there are other factors that may have led women to receiving the vote, such as pre war attitudes as women were beginning to be better educated and have better jobs, the Suffragettes and Suffragists were important as they campaigned for women to have the vote, and finally Foreign Influence as other countries such as Finland had already given women the vote. Therefore, they may not have received the vote solely on their war effort. Firstly, it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Factors That Increase Out Rates And The Importance And... Literature Review One of the many problems our youth is affected by is the decision not to, or inability to graduate high school. This paper will emphasize the issues that can influence drop out rates and the importance and need of an appropriate intervention. Drop out rates, whether difficult to measure accurately, continue to steadily increase, especially for minorities (low SES students, African Americans, and Hispanics). Dropping out of high school is a very significant issue, not just for the individual itself, but also for society (Rumberger, 1983). Research shows that students who drop out are more likely to be unemployed, or have low skilled/low paying jobs (Christle, Jolivette, Nelson, 2007). The problems do not stop there; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychological factors also play an important role in Rumberger s study; findings have shown that high levels of confidence, sociability and educational aspirations can distinguish graduate students from dropouts. Among other important factors linked to possible dropouts are family backgrounds, and school settings. Families have a great impact when it comes to school interest and the motivation to stay in school. One study by Hill and Stafford (1977) shows that better educated parents have shown to influence their children s educational aspirations and drive to stay in school (Rumberger, 1983). In addition, a strong parent children communication about their parental expectations for their children s education has shown a relationship to school achievement (Strom Boster, 2007). And important finding shows that even if children are doing poorly in school, those whose parents were involved in their children s education and decisions, were less likely that those with low parental involvement, to drop out of school (Rumberger, Ghatak, Poulos, Ritter, Dornbush, 1990). Schools play a very important role as well; students can lose motivation and become less engaged in school if they cannot find a connection with their school. Studies show that the majority of high school dropouts are associated with disengagement from school (Christle et al., 2007). Teachers have the ability to influence their students motivation to stay in school as well. Students who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House. The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together, who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us into a well put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the boss/manager of the kitchen and Josh who was the other person who ran the kitchen with me. Josh and I were not the ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that happened because ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something. Between the three of us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money throughout the summer for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure people were satisfied but because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is key in every group to succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system. Specifically, I am going to look at the writing that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Teaching English As A Language Essay INTRODUCTION English seems to have joined this list of basic skills. Quite simply, its function and place in the curriculum is no longer that of foreign language and this is bringing about profound changes in who is learning English, their motives for learning it and their needs as learners. (Graddol, D, page 72) If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in particular for native speakers of English. The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118) English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on. The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the multifunctional use that characterizes English today. Graddol (2006:62) also states that English is no longer the only show in town . Books may either express a story or may enlighten a person on a certain subject; just as, writing gives people the ability to express their feelings or write a story for entertainment. Likewise, there are numberless ways reading and writing can either express feeling or generate hours of entertainment. Writing is a way I keep myself busy when I have something on my mind. • 11. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A Brief Overview Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder that is characterized by constant intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that normally cause anxiety or distress which can only be alleviated by performing repetitive actions (compulsions) (Rahimi, Haghighi, and Shamsaei, 2015). Nearly everyone has experienced something similar to these obsessions and compulsions at some point in their life but this experience can only be labeled as OCD when it occurs at least one hour per day and correlates with high levels of distress (Abramowitz et al., 2010). It s important to distinguish the differences between the actual psychological disorder and informal use of the term OCD. For example, many people claim they have OCD because they are particular about how something is done such as doing the dishes or making the bed in the morning. However, true sufferers of this disorder suffer from great anxiety and torment from their obsessions and cannot restrain themselves from giving in to their compulsions (Huffman Dowdell, 2004, p. 462). OCD, according to the World Health Organization, is among the top ten most disabling medical conditions (Rahimi et al., 2015). There are two main components to obsessive compulsive disorder: obsessions and compulsions. The first component, obsessions, are unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that will constantly plague an individual s mind and cause tem a great source of anxiety and ... I would argue the need for judgment links to tyranny. The person setting the table for a potential process has control over how the problem is framed and if there is a problem to begin with. Perhaps the public needs to be involved in even the planning process of the process itself? Could this look like a group of stakeholders? If the goal is to create a horizontal, people controlled system of decision making? A compromise that deals with the challenge articulated above is some form of power devolution. In this essay, I will compare the 2007 British American 3D motion film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Neil Gaines And Roger Avary, and also the book version mentioning the personality of Beowulf, Grendel, Grendel s mom and the battle with the dragon. In the movie and poem Beowulf s personality is shown differently and expressed in a different form. In the movie and poem Beowulf there was many differences and similarities that were noticeable such as the portrayal of Grendel s mother, Grendel being the son of Hrothgar, and Beowulf s battle with the dragon. In the 2007 movie, other than the setting and plot, it was totally different from the original poem, It was very entertaining but didn t follow the original poem. Grendel s mother was a beautiful Angelina Jolie while in the book she was very often described as a grimy slimy monster. The similarities were when Beowulf s heroic characteristics and the severing of Grendel s arm ; however, the movie mentioned the seductive scene of Grendel s mother and how the product of this sin is his son the dragon, while in the text this beast is regarded as a rogue monster. I firmly believe that this article conforms to the basis of the closed form writing style but it dabbles in the open formed style of writing. There are several examples in the essay that convince me of this. First of all, there is a thesis in the first paragraph of the article letting the reader know what is going to happen. The thesis was I have just finished lunch and I feel like interviewing myself. Since the interviewer and interviewee is the same person, I have split myself in half. Two artists have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees colours as different moods but also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each colour: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody. • 17. The Gospel Of Luke And The Gospel Of Luke The Gospel of Luke is the third book in the canon of the New Testament and the final of the synoptic Gospels. While the Gospel of Matthew does contain more chapters, Luke is the longest of the four Gospels, with the most verses and most words out of all four Gospels in the New Testament. Luke encompasses the full lifespan of Christ: his conception, birth, childhood, adulthood, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The Gospel of Luke also contains many parables that Jesus told during his earthly ministry, along with miracles that Jesus performed during this time. The Gospel of Luke is a vibrant book that gives believers insight in the life of Jesus Christ. Authorship Though the author of the Gospel of Luke is not named within the Gospel itself, critics agree that the author of the Gospel of Luke is Luke, a physician. Paul refers to Luke as the beloved physician in Colossians 4:14. Luke is credited as being the author of the book of Acts, and was a frequent companion of the Apostle Paul; there is evidence that Paul was with Luke during both of his Roman imprisonments (2 Timothy 4:11 and Philemon 24). The reason for the anonymity of authorship is likely that the recipient (Theophilus) would know who the author was, and thus there was no need for self identification during the time of composition. Luke may have also acted out of humility by not identifying himself as the author of this Gospel. Luke, being a physician and a learned man, possessed tremendous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Massey University has been presented with a world first robotic device that is said to revolutionize the milking industry process, addressed to Associate Professor Bridges. Technological advancement has transformative effects within the agricultural sector of dairy farming in New Zealand. This review will be looking specifically at the effects of new technology which could revolutionise milking on dairy farms through the use of robots milking cows in situ in the paddocks. To explore the change issues related to this, this review explores its potential effects on labourers within the farming sector, farm managing change, the relationship between farmer and animal (farmer cow), impact on current farming practices, and costs versus return on investment into new technology. The study of the topics at hand are of importance, as critically assessing and informing technological innovation processes, and to assess if both cows and farmers will lead better and healthier lives or is the current information on automated milking systems merely formed from consultants sales pitch (Drissen.C Heutinck.L.H.M 2014)? He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried to keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases in the water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was that gods spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to agriculture. As new techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production increased as well. Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden age of ancient Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a pharaoh could have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. • 26. Language Delays In Autism Language Delays in Autism Spectrum Disorder Bethany Perez Colorado State University Autism spectrum disorder is caused by abnormalities in the brain. Many children that qualify under the autism spectrum disorder, often experience developmental delays in three areas of development. Socially/emotionally, as well as cognitively, children with ASD are unable to progress at a normal rate of development compared to their peers. The level of communication due to language delays can be severely affected as well for children with autism. Children can also exhibit repetitive, unusual behaviors. Those affected by the disorder thrive on consistency, and predictability in the classroom setting. Because of the impaired language skills, visual approaches to classroom instruction are very beneficial for the students (Ormrod, 2011). When considering the development of someone with autism, a common issue is the social stimuli associated with language development. Often the social effects of having autism affect other areas of development as well. Researchers have related the increased viewing of stimuli to skin conductance responses, and their association with language development in autism. Theories about how the economy works and what will happen in the economy where there is monetary policy or fiscal policy intervention are appropriate in assisting policy makers understand the possible implications of decisions they make or are under consideration. However, they are rarely complete models and often outcomes cannot be predicted. Reintroduction of a theory suggests that new evidence in support of the theory has been reported. 3. The theory itself doesn t have to specify the means of achieving a stated objective; however, it has to provide a sound basis for explaining, defining and predicting behaviour. • 28. The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions, which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the electrical in electrical designing and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). Her autobiography entails the very candid moments of the Harlem Renaissance. As the novel is exposed in the opening chapter the subject matter is revealed and it entails Zora Neale Hurston s life. This could potentially be the vacuum or circuit in Hurston s life that attested for her fame in the Harlem Renaissance. The war generals were also very significant people in the development of Eatonville and neighboring towns. Now, these founders were, to a man, people who had risked their lives and fortunes that Negroes might be free. Those who had fought in the ranks had thrown their weight behind the cause of Emancipation (5). This demonstration of leadership and uncertainty are characteristics that Hurston posses. So, in a raw, bustling frontier, the experiment of self government for Negroes was tried. White Maitland and Negro Eatonville have lived side by side for fifty five years without a single instance of enmity. The spirit of the founders ha reached beyond the grave (6). Hurston s opening exposition reveals only partial of what could be the remaining events in the novel. However they do parallel with the theme of an individual versus society. This being said because she has become a product of her environment and her environment has shaped her in many ways as a writer. She was fortunate enough to grow up in a very influential area. She prepares the reader for potential conflict with her environment because her environment is so historic and classic. • 31. Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And... Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. Humans have come in contact with this bacterium in massive outbreaks throughout history, including the most famous Black Death of the 14th century. From the lack of knowledge of the bacteria and its ability to infect populations rapidly, the human race has suffered immensely. The bacterium is specialized with specific plasmids, Yersinia outer proteins as well as other toxins that it uses to disrupt the body s immune response. This rapidly deadly disease, characterized by these certain factors, enable the bacterium to eventually lead the host into a painful death. 2 The bacteria, Yersinia pestis, is encoded with two specific plasmids that aid in the transfer and survival of the bacteria, especially in the wild. Both of these plasmids must be present on the bacteria for full virulence of the organism. The largest of the extrachromosomal elements, with typical strains of ~100 kb, is the Murine toxin plasmid (pFra), a capsule protein. pFra is characterized by two specific factors: FI capsular protein antigen and YMT. The second plasmid, Pesticin plasmid named pPla after the plasminogen activator, happens to be the smallest of the plasmids. The bacteriocin (pesticin;Pst) and the bilanolysin and coagulase activities are found to be connected with one another and aids the former organism of Yersinia in the invasion of the host from peripheral sites (Carniel 41). After the bacteria is injected through a bite of the rat flea, Yersinia pestis affects the immune system similar to the bacterial agent, Bacillis anthracis. By having a Type III secretion system, the bacteria are able to find a means ? to target virulence factors directly at host cells . Academic Characteristics Of Hip Hop Culture The purpose of this paper is to explore the major characteristics of hip hop studies, how they have evolved over the years, and how hip hop can be used to teach others. To begin, a great summary of the major characteristics of hip hop studies is The Kaledioscope of Writing on Hip Hop Culture by Gail Hilson Woldu. For instance, in his book Woldu discusses the academic characteristic of hip hop studies (Woldu, 10). The author gives several examples of major works that have come from academic writing. Finally, the last major characteristic of hip hop studies that Woldu discusses is what he calls the devotees (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, All are clearly more than devotees in the sense that they are far more than fans or hip hop groupies (Would, 30). Examples that he provides are, for instance, Bill Adler (Woldu, 30). Woldu states, Bill Adler, a former rap publicist...wrote a biography of rappers Run DMC (woldu, 31). Another example is Nelson George. According to Woldu, the recipient of two ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards and an American Book Award, George is the author of eight nonfiction books on African American culture... (Woldu, 31). Again, these examples go to show that this is a major characteristic of hip hop studies. Aside from simply looking at the major characteristics, one can also examine the ways in which they have evolved. For instance, one can dive into the evolution of the academic characteristic. One major way in which these characteristics have evolved is simply by the topics they cover. When looking at what was commonly talked about back in the early days of hip hop, and then compare it to the topics discussed today one will notice a difference. (I.e. a working price mechanism) Due to high search costs the used goods and collectables market had suffered a stifled growth. Whereas the lack of a price mechanism in the market meant products were sold primarily through bilateral negotiation, through buyer and seller. This was an issue as it didn t reveal the true prices in the market as little or no competition prevented competitive pricing strategies from emerging. Another incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by Rossi s works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by this time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant downward motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence became so strongly associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or further embellishments was not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the lament to be heard and identified. The ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the Queen of Sweden lament seems to be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she sings in a sort of emotional frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! (datemi per pietade un che m uccida) The music of the refrain also corresponds with the emotions using affective dissonances The idea that the queen wishes for someone to kill her rather than live in a world without her King husband is an indicator of how distraught and hysterical she had become and hints at her mental instability in the period after his death. The lament itself is moving and effective. As rage overcomes the queen at the injustice of Gustavus death she implores the people to take up arms and submerge the earth in torrents of blood, may every town be torched at your hands, may every province burn, kill, wound, do not spare the wicked ones in order to avenge his death. • 46. Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Nicolo... When you do something wrong and you are afraid of the consequences, there is usually one parent that you would prefer to get scolded by. This is because they are the one that is more lenient or clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises. Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him. Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate. (Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment. Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty; because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow disorders to arise...
