Mental Illness
Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Abstract
Mental illness is a prominent problem in today s troublesome world. Each day many people are
diagnosed with a mental illness, most commonly depression. The human mind becomes tarnished
when a person has a mental illness, and often the illness takes over a person s life completely. Mental
illness is a serious problem and often goes untreated or misdiagnosed. The darkness within a person s
mind is one of the toughest aspects of life for people to conquer and many lose themselves in the fight.
To further understand mental illness, it would be easiest to peer into the life of someone with one of
these illnesses. For example, taking a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While filming the movie, which eventually became one of his biggest successes, he fell in love with
his on screen wife Michelle Williams. The love sprouted after Williams had injured her knee and
Ledger took it upon himself to care for her. Their love grew so quickly that Williams was pregnant
before the film was finished. Their child, Matilda was born in October of 2005. The two girls were the
loves of his life which he was quite open about. During the following couple years, Heath s fame
increased and the demand for his work grew, keeping him away from home more and more. This led
to a break in the relationship between him and Michelle. They separated, and this sent Ledger into the
darkest place he d ever been. He was crushed and depressed over the fact that he couldn t spend time
with his daughter. This depression, coupled with anxiety and insomnia that he had experienced for
most of his adult life, led to him taking a plethora of prescription pills to counteract his illnesses.
Eventually, this barrage of medications on his body caught up with him, and he passed away due to
accidental overdose on January 22, 2008. The story of Ledger s life is saddening to say the least, and
just goes to show that mental illness is a silent killer that can take the life of any unsuspecting victim
caught in its path (Pendleton, 2008).

Thoreau’s Case for Political Disengagement by Carl Bankston
In the article Thoreau s Case for Political Disengagement, the author, Carl Bankston, examines
Thoreau s portrayal of having a moral conscience while being controlled by society. The author
distinctly explains Thoreau s ideas, while also giving his own opinion on the subject. Absorption in
civic involvement, from the point of view Thoreau gives us, dimin ishes the independent self and
therefore diminishes the ability to think for oneself, which is necessary for the use of the full range of
moral judgment. Moral judg ment, in turn, is essential for true service to civil society. Paradoxically,
only those who resist the state serve it with their con sciences, and only those who hold them selves
apart from civic cooperation can improve the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are not going to let anything get in the way of their moral decisions. They are all just willing to
go against society to be able to use their consciences. They are seen to be treated as enemies for the
fact that they are not going to change their opinion, although society wants them to. Thoreau presents
the concept that people who work for society, only think based on political conscience. In the passage,
it shares Others, as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office holders, serve the state
chiefly with their heads; and, as they rarely make any moral distinctions. (P.3) All of the jobs listed are
employed within society. All of their jobs depend on them knowing the laws of society. They even
make their moral decisions based on their perception of the opinion of society. In some circumstances,
Legislators will make moral decisions for the greater good of the community. Thoreau depicts the
soldier as an individual that who uses neither political nor moral conscience to make decisions. The
passage says, The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their
bodies. (P.3) Considering the government tries to transform the opinions of the soldier, they do not
have an opinion at all. When using the word mass to describe the group of soldiers, the definition of
the word brings up the idea that it is a larger body of matter with no shape. Society expects every
soldier who joins the army to

Is Afghanistan A Nation Of A Landlocked Country Located...
Afghanistan is a landlocked country located within South and Central Asia. It is an Islamic Republic
with the nation currently being led by President Ashraf Ghani. Afghanistan is a multiethnic society
with a population of approximately thirty one million people. In September 1996 to December 2001,
the Taliban, a political movement, formed a government and spread throughout Afghanistan. They
misinterpreted Islamic law and inflicted strict and unjust order amongst the Afghans, specifically
women. Even after the Taliban s fall from power, women are still being discriminated. Women s rights
in Afghanistan are violated, specifically in Article two of the Universal Declaration of the Human
Rights, through rape, forced marriage, and self immolation. Before the Taliban rule, women were
protected under the law and were afforded rights in Afghan society. Abdur Rahman Khan, who ruled
from 1880 to 1901, instituted several reforms for women because he wanted to consolidate the nation
into a centralized state. Two of the changes he made for women were that he abolished the custom of
forcing a woman to marry her deceased husband s next of kin and raised the age of marriage. Women
received the right to vote in the 1920s and the Afghan constitution provided equality for women
beginning in the 1960s. The Taliban emerged as a resistance movement aiming to remove the Soviet
troops from Afghanistan. It was a predominantly Pashtun group that began in Kandahar who came to

The Pros and Cons of Pornography Essay
For centuries, humans have been creating explicit images to depict their sexual fantasies and desires.
Times have drastically changed, however, since the first known sex guide, Kama Sutra, was illustrated
in 5th century India (King 412). The selling of sexually explicit material is a multibillion dollar
industry (King 411). Today, with just the click of a mouse, millions world wide are able to access
pornography and see their sexual fantasies come to life (King 418). According to King, One third of
all use of the internet is connected to porn sites, (419). With explicit sexual material nearly impossible
to avoid, it may be difficult to decipher between what is normal sexual behavior and what is merely
fantasy. There is belief that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is no wonder that many women think negatively about most pornographic material. After viewing
pornography, women tend to feel less confident and insecure about their bodies (King, 2012).
If pornography is degrading and uncomfortable for women to watch, why have 41% of women
intentionally viewed porn (King, 2012)? Contrary to the anti pornography feminism movement,
proponents of pornography believe that porn liberates women and allows them to take part in less
traditional sexual behavior (Evans Cicco, 2012). Some women agree with this claim and use porn to
explore their own sexuality (Paul 2012). Pornography for these women is a resource. It is a method for
them to discover new sex positions and ways to act sexy (Paul 2012). According to Paul, a [change] in
women s expectations and attitudes toward their sexuality are driving women to pornography. This
statement indicates that some women want to replicate acts that are presented in pornographic
material. It may also suggest that women believe sexual behaviors used in pornography are not only
the norm, but expected.
To discover if women and men s attitudes about female sexuality have been influenced by
pornography, I will conduct interviews based on the strategies that Sterk used when interviewing
prostitutes. Sterk made it easier for the women to speak about this difficult topic by first building
relationships with them. She also promoted conversations and

North Korea s Nuclear Weapons Program Essay
North Korea s Nuclear Weapons program is a major international crisis. In early September of this
year the radical regime of North Korea conducted a Nuclear Weapons test, which broke regional
stability and put the world on alert. North Korea continues to test intercontinental ballistic missiles
and develop more dangerous nuclear warheads to eventually strategically strike South Korea and the
United States. The test was later confirmed by many intelligence agencies as real and extremely
powerful. With current policies failing to address the issue of North Korean Nuclear weapons program
the international community should implement policies of coercive diplomacy, non government
organization executed soft power or putting pressure on China to end the threat of a nuclear weapons
attack. THE MAIN ISSUE North Korea said the test, which is the strongest for the country yet, was a
nuclear warhead that has been standardized to be able to be mounted on a strategic ballistic rockets
(BBC News 2016). The test in September is the second one already in 2016. In January North Korea
had a similar test, which put the region into a heighten state of alert with high tensions between North
Korea and South Korea. Many incidences played out over the spring and summer leading to their
second test of the year. Ian Bremmer, through intelligence sources, suggest this will not be last of
North Korea s tests and to expect more in the immediate future (Bremmer 2016). This test marks a

and understanding of varying experiences of archives should only strengthen these collaborations
through enabling clear communication. Moreover, archivists need to reconsider and develop new
approaches to the important issue of the use of archival material. Six approaches to this challenges are
suggested and discussed, developing better means of tracking research use, improving procedures for
interpreting and reporting on that use, promoting increased research use, emphasizing use as a means
of garnering program support, reaching out to the user community for assistance in dealing with
certain archival issues and expanding the concept of reference service to a broader notion of

The Age Of Jackson And Jacksonian Democracy
A. The usual labels The Age of Jackson and Jacksonian Democracy analyze Andrew Jackson with the
age in which he lived and with the improvement of political democracy. This esteem may amplify his
importance, but it also endorses the important truth that Jackson extremely contributed to building the
American nation and its politics. Just as contemporaneous artists so regularly characterized him
astride his horse overlooking the battlefield, Jackson bestride some of the key streams of nineteenth
century American political life. Jackson gotten some precise education at district academies and
schools, and following the Revolution, he left the Waxhaw community to review law with two
outstanding members of the North Carolina bar. In the 1780s, after discovering few legal work in
North Carolina, he emigrated to Tennessee, where he displayed the good sense to classify himself with
the Blount Overton faction, a group of outstanding men bound together by politics, land conjecture,
and, progressively, financial and banking interests. Military positions also came Jackson s way, and he
constantly advanced from his appointment as judge defender for the Davidson County militia in 1792
to be elected dominant general of the Tennessee militia a decade later. Further, there were few clear
cut affair dividing the applicant. Instead, popular attention was apprehended by a host of defamatory
charges that pulled the contest down to the level of mud slinging. Rachel, for example, was implicated

Witch Trials In The Late Medieval Era
It s the turn of an era, the Late Medieval era is ending and the Early Modern era is beginning, the
protestant reformation was happening causing widespread fear in Christians around the world as the
fear that the devil could be anywhere leading Christians away from the light of their lord, The most
feared sect of devil worshippers were the witches and sorcerers, who were believed to have given their
soul to the devil in return for wicked powers beyond the understanding and sight of man. The first
allowance of witch trials was by the Pope Innocent VIII s with his issuing of the Summis desiderantes
affectibus (in the late Medieval era) which declared that witches were real and that the Inquisition had
papal authority to try them, In 1542 England passed a law making it a crime to be a witch with the
punishment being death, later it was repealed, but was restored by a new act in 1562, Many laws and
decrees like these were issued throughout the Christian world from 1484 to the end of the witch trials
in 1782.
The early days of the Witch Trials in Europe and America were marked with many small trials held in
villages throughout both continents with the first being recognized as the burning of accused witches
in Valais Switzerland in 1428 with the estimated prosecuted being somewhere from 100 to 200 this is
the recorded estimate until 1430 thereafter there are no records, this occurred after delegates from
seven districts who urged authorities to investigate for sign of witchcraft

Effective and efficient administration plays an important role in the stabilisation of Bury Payplan.
1) Pay methods and pay distribution arrangements
Most of the Bury Payplan clients choosing BACS payment method and some of our clients are
interested to pay their employees via Cheque. To ensure on time processing and output delivery NGA
have implemented a schedule which is known as Master Schedule. Which consist of Name and
reference of payrolls, Frequency of payrolls, Pay Method, Pay date, Payroll Input due date, Preview
Date, Preview cutoff date, Payroll Final report due date , BACS submission date and current status of
payroll(Process pending, processing, processed, audit pending, auditing, audited, input awaiting, query
to client). NGA give different colours for each payroll status this help NGA to identify the payroll
status easily. To ensure on time processing of BACS NGA create another spread sheet called BACS
control sheet for BACS clients, which includes BACS transmission date, BACS processing date and
pay date. Both the schedule help NGA to process the payroll and pay the employees on time and this
ensure 100% Turn Around Time (TAT) for all payrolls. NGA sending each client s forthcoming period
s schedule along with their payroll output therefore our clients also aware about their schedule for
each pay period. NGA reduce the number of errors and TAT miss by implementing master schedule

Wilfred Owen s Life and Accomplishments
The First World War not only reshaped boundaries, watched empires rise and fall, but it also saw a
drastic change in the literary art, and the view of war and all its glory . With authors such as Wilfred
Owen, the world was beginning to get exposed to the brutality of war from the front line. Like most
poets of his time, Owen wrote in the modern period. And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood Come gargling
from the froth corrupted lungs (Dulce et Decorum Est). This gruesome line paints a picture of a gas
attack. Although his life on earth was cut short, Owen has truly made a spot for himself among the
greatest war poets in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GAS! GAS! (Owen) is a cry of warning, Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling (Owen), this is not a
description of slow nerves but, it is a description of exhausted soldiers, Men marched asleep... All
went lame, all blind Drunk with fatigue (Owen) and due to this extreme physical and mental
exhaustion the soldiers are deaf even to the hoots of gas shells dropping softly behind. (Owen) The
ecstasy of fumbling describes all the soldiers, waking from exhaustion into extreme fear, trying to
hurriedly put on their gas masks to save their own lives. Lines 12 14 compares succumbing to poison
gas to drowning. Symptoms of chlorine or phosgene gas are well described. The misty panes and thick
green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning (Owen), are accurate descriptions of the green
poison gas covering the land. Medically speaking the gas causes lungs to fill with fluid and the gassed
soldiers drown from liquid in their own lungs. The phrase gargling from the froth corrupted lungs
(Owen), describes the gassed lungs filled with fluid, producing the same effects as when a person
drowns in water. Describing a new terror of warfare. Stanza three mirrors Owen s nightmare memories
of this gas attack. As a part of his therapy at Craig Lockhart, psychiatric hospital in Edinburgh, Owen
s doctor, encouraged him to translate his experiences, specifically the experiences he relived in his
dreams, into poetry. Wilfred

Computer Vs. Personal Computers
Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that the
personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers were a big
deal, but now it s all about smart phones and new ones that are launching soon. People may not think
so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart phones now. I
understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree with what I m saying,
but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers is a better, electronic than
smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and are a lot more helpful. First,
personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need access to Wi Fi in order to do
anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi Fi then you can t access your social
media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have
Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social
media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This
electronic is also good for when doing homework because you can listen to music, type better, and
faster on the keyboard. In contrary, smartphones are very distracting. Smartphones can be helpful
when you can t access Wi Fi for google maps or just looking up a store for hours, email and other
notifications. Smart phones

Symbolism of Nature in Poems
In literature, writers often use symbols of nature to symbolize emotion and reflection. Flowers may
symbolize life as drought may symbolize death and a loss of hope. In the poems The Road Not Taken,
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, and A Poison Tree, Frost and Wordsworth use the shallow
image of a flower and the woods to symbolize a change of emotion and thought in one s life. Two
roads diverging in different directions lead to an unknown destination because no one knows where
the paths will take them. The two paths in the woods are symbolic for there being many choices in
life. The speaker also depicts the two paths with leaves covering both equally, which shows that both
are mysterious and lead to somewhere unknown to the person traveling it. Also, that no matter what
choice is made do not look back, but to keep moving forward. For example in the poem the speaker
says, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (536) it depicts that the
person is picking the path not commonly chosen by others even if it does not lead to good things. It
may be much more difficult, and although it is going against everyone it has set the speaker apart from
others. The woods are used as a symbol of a passage to temptation and darkness in the poem, Stopping
by Woods on a Snowy Evening . It is also described as a place of glamour that has diverted the
speaker from fulfilling the promise. The poem uses the horse with the bell attached to it as a

Hemophilia
Introduction to Hemophilia
Hemophilia is term coined by Johann Schönlein is derived for Greek and Latin words that refer to one
who loves to bleed or hemorrhage (Carson DeWitt, 2014). Hemophilia is a disorder in the body s
mechanism of clotting. In simpler terms, people afflicted with hemophilia have a risk of bleeding out
from minor injuries.
Types of Hemophilia
There are three types of hemophilia (hemophilia A, hemophilia B, hemophilia C). Hemophilia A is
more common and it is caused by a deficiency of factor VIII (Carson DeWitt, 2014). This deficiency
can vary in severity. This is why each case of Hemophilia varies in each case. Most people have
severe Hemophilia which means that the factor is functioning at a hundredth of what it should be. ...

Hemophilia like many diseases doesn t have a cure at the moment. There are treatment plans available.
A doctor will prescribe transfusions usually. Factor replacement therapy injects the missing factor into
the system which immediately provides the missing blood clotting factor the afflicted person is
missing. These transfusions can be made from human blood or blood from an animal. When the
transfusion is from a human, the proteins extracted for the transfusion are sterilized to prevent any
blood related diseases. When the transfusion is taken from an animal, the factor desired to be produced
is injected into the animal, so it can then produce large amounts of it. After that, the factor is extracted
and it is then stabilized so it can be used in humans. The reason why a doctor must be seen for
hemophiliacs to be treated is that, hemophilia varies in severity from case to case. This is because
every person produces a different amount of the blood clotting factor. One hemophiliac may produce
15% of what a normal person produces while another hemophiliac may produce only 1% of what a
normal person produces (HoG) . The amount and regularity of transfusions depend on severity of

Carmen Opera Sparknotes
The original Carmen opera was set in Spain and was about the defeat of a soldier who was seduced by
the intensity of the gypsy known as Carmen. After he deserts his long time love and quits his military
duties, he still loses Carmen s love, as she fell in love with another man. The soldier then stabs and
kills her in a jealous rage. Ramaka was able to adapt this renowned play and transform it into one that
politically targets and addresses post colonial issues in Senegal such as: government corruption, the
use of public resources for gain, and loss of freedom. He essentially uses Karmen as a flow to portray
that the government in Senegal has taken public resources for person gain. It principally follows the

By making Karmen such a strong character, Ramaka transforms her into something larger than life
almost mythical, like Ramatou from Hyenas. The main difference about Karmen compared to other
strong female characters from the films that we have watched, is her sexuality. Her mother is a strong
female character, as is apparent from the immense amount of respect that people have from her; such
as when the mother tells off the police and everyone stands by her side and work to get kick out the
cops. The other women seem to see her as some type of idol or hero. I am assuming this is because
Karmen does everything we only wish we could do (as was mentioned by one of the translators in
class). Women look up to her; especially due to the face that pride, dignity, and beauty are all traits
that are greatly admired in Senegal. Interestingly, Karmen is in no ways unaware of this bold quality
of hers, but she is also not arrogant about it. This became apparent when she said I m no more women

Comprehensive Sexual Education Should Be Mandatory In Schools
More than 1 million American teenage women become pregnant each year. Why is this happening
when there are so many contraceptives at everyone s fingertips? Why do so many people have
unrecognized STD s? The initial thought that comes to mind is stupidity, but after looking into the
topic, the real problem happening is that teens are uneducated when it comes to safe sex. The average
age of first sexual intercourse is 16.2 for women and 15.7 for men. That s a pretty young age to be
having sex. Comprehensive sexual education should be mandatory in schools standard curriculum. It s
not necessarily unethical for teens to be having sex, others may have different beliefs and that s okay

With abstinence only sex education teens wouldn t be learning about STD prevention or pregnancy
prevention and if they did decide to have sex, they wouldn t know much about STDs and how
devastating they can be and that would eliminate their fear factor and they wouldn t really worry about
getting them. At the moment the favored approach is called comprehensive sex education. The nation
s highest ranking health officer, Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, has endorsed this approach as the
chief way to reduce unwed childbearing and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among teenagers.
(Whitehead). The big controversy is that parents don t want some stranger teaching their children
about sex, but instead they want to be the ones that educate their children when they feel like the time
is right. Yeah that s great and all but the problem is that when the teens parents teach them about sex,
they often times miss some key information and that could leave the teen confused, or they could give
information that is structured based on an opinion and could mislead the teen to perceive sex as a bad
thing which can t be true because it s the root of life. When comprehensive sexual education is taught
in school it s information is 100%

hours watching it. During the story Harrison Bergeron, it s shown that the society watching TV is
manipulated into thinking the opposite way that today s society is. Modern day society has many
bright and creative thinkers that think outside the box with creative ideas that further improve the
society. For example, Bill Gates, the world s richest man wouldn t be where he is without his creative

Just like television, it was first something that only had black and white shows showing about 5 shows
daily that would play on repeat. Now if you switch to any channel you will most likely see something
that you haven t seen before. It may or may not be interesting, but it at least caught the attention of the
viewer to maybe come revisit it. Television hasn t desensitized the society; its rather though further
improved it. It s become something that inspires people s lives and makes them show their full
potential. People have become such bright and creative thinkers from something so simply like the
television. Now it s not that everyone succeeds and becomes inspired by television, but there are
people out there that have come out of their shell and become something that has impacted our world

Short Essay About The Tango
The tango is Argentina s national dance. The tango is a dance that defies description. It can be fast and

Disadvantages Of Crude Oil
1. Introduction: Crude oil Crude oil is a mixture of molecules bonded together in chains called
hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbons, and mostly consists of a family of hydrocarbons called alkanes
(CnH2n+2). Figure 1 1 displays a type of hydrocarbon. As a leading product on the global market we
think of crude oil as a valuable substance, but are there more efficient materials, less pollutant
substances and more reliable constituents that can support our future? Crude oil is formed from the
remains of deceased fauna and flora which were compressed under large segments at excessive
pressures and temperatures. Crude oil is known as a non renewable or finite resource and will
eventually deplete making it a limited resource that takes hundreds of years to develop, so finding a
replacement to help transition the reliance on crude oil is crucial. Crude oil is used in a range of
everyday items such as plastics, fuel, heating oil and other important products. If the price of crude oil
rises the prices of fuel, food, clothing, everything rises with it. This could result in a major global
crises but using alternatives would ease or even erase this problem. [1] 2. Industry and producer

Integrity and Success
What is the line between cheating and just helping out? Is there a hierarchy of honesty which places
people into categories based on the extent of their cheating? Whether or not there are different levels
of dishonesty, people often sacrifice their integrity in order to succeed. However, is this always the
best method of getting ahead in life? While it may be easier to excel in the professional world by
cheating, Tom Hanks, Simon Cowell, and Malala Yousafzai have proven that success can come from
being honest, and that one does not have to sacrifice his integrity to achieve.
Actors and celebrities may enjoy the spotlight constantly surrounding them, but their massive fame
and success never come without a backstory of hard work and dedication. While sometimes, fame
comes easier by cheating, being dishonest, and using unfair advantages to get ahead, there are some
celebrities whose brutal honesty and integrity have helped them gain fame and respect from their
followers. One prime example would be actor Tom Hanks, whose success in movies cannot be
understated. Hanks was ranked number one on the Forbes E Score list of most trustworthy celebrities

How Linguistic Ethnographers Blommaert And. Borba...
In the present essay, we have seen how linguistic ethnographers Blommaert and
Borba conceptualize ethnographic research in their two works, what function language had in the
observed, situated interactions and how it was approached to further investigate larger frameworks.
Besides the more technical aspects, we have seen that in both accounts, language plays a crucial role
in the reproduction of inequality and some sociologic and ethnographic concepts, when applied to
observation of linguistic forms, can help to grasp the larger structures regimenting institutional
practices.

My 3 Values Essay
Maturity is achieved when a person postpones immediate pleasures for long term values, according to
Joshua Liebman. Values can be just about anything that you can imagine. My 3 values are respect,
loyalty, and honesty. I believe that my three values are what describe me and will help me when I m
older with the decisions that I make.
Respect is one of the most important values to me because they mostly matter in the way that if
someone shows no respect for you or others they more than likely have no respect coming to
themselves or showing it to others. To be respected, learn to respect others to show growth and
maturity. If we don t learn at an earlier age to respect others, such as our peers, adults, or parents, we

The Life Of A Soccer
The life of a soccer (overlap lesson) I do not know whether it has been out of our little childishness or
foolishness at a young age, but for some reason, I was never able to see nor relate the future to
whomever I was or what I was doing at the present not until they happen to me; the point where it is
impossible to ignore them. I remembered the laugh and sweat out in the plain, in that sunny day, not a
green or regulated field, but a beautiful barren and grassless field, a virtual desert, but I always rather
chose to spend my time on that wrenched and beautiful than other place. From far a distance, one will
be able to see something like a pile of rectangular shape at the end of the field and to the other field as
well. Sometimes, a circulation of dirt and people almost smashing into each other. My mom knew that
I would rush to the field rather than to home when every kid at the village would quicken to home at
the end of school. I would quicken to the field to enjoy the sweat and laughter. On that sunny day, no
one will not be able to find water other than on my shirt that is filled with the wet of a sweat. Then, I
did lie down on the field and laugh after all the run and playing soccer. This constant action of rushing
to the field, generating sweat and going home at the dawn of the night is an continuous activity that I
did while growing up. And though, I think it of as a child s hobby, it may be far more than that.
Unbeknownst to me was that playing soccer was not a

Henry James The Aspern Papers
Henry James The Aspern Papers
The Aspern Papers by Henry James illustrates a classic opposition throughout the story: the
underestimation of the old by the young. The narrator, Aspern s publisher, sets himself to the task of
retrieving several mysterious papers from a former lover of his idol, and goes in with the easy
confidence of a young man who never dreams that anyone, much less an elderly lady, could be not
one, but in fact several, steps ahead of him at all times in his hunt for literary gold. The relationship
between Miss Bordereau and the narrator is that of the cat and the mouse, with the narrator believing
he is the cat, and Miss Bordereau knowing that she has the upper hand by the simple fact of
possession. The narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that if Miss Bordereau had thought it would get rid of him, she would have told him directly
that, yes, she had the papers, and no, she had no intention of giving them up. However, because their
relationship actually began with Miss Tina s terse reply to the narrator s associate, telling him that
under no circumstances were the two Bordereau s interested in any nonsense as frivolous as a dead
author s romantic entanglements. This response comes back to haunt the narrator as he buries himself
deeper and deeper in intrigue to keep his true identity a secret from Miss Bordereau. When they
converse, the narrator is on his toes and very aware of the effect of every word, while Miss Bordereau
throws out tidbits to entice him into an indiscreet comment or demand for the papers. For example,
she deliberately declines to give him a receipt for his rent payment, prompting the narrator to conclude
She had given me a part of her house, but she wouldn t add to that so much as a morsel of paper with
her name on it (James, 27). While she is ostensibly neglecting only a nicety of business, in truth it
seems she is teasing him, saying that if she will not even give him her signature on a receipt, there is
nothing on earth that might compel her to part with the Aspern papers.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the competitive relationship between Aspern s publisher and
Miss Bordereau is the inclusion of a

What Is The Chinese Parenting Style In The Roar Of The...
Title
Every parent always wants what is best for their children. But what is the best way to go about this?
There are so many ways one can go and never know if you are right or are doing the right thing. You
might believe you are doing what is best for your child or children, but other parents don t see that so
it can be conflicting at times. In the essay, The Roar of the Tiger Mom Amy Chua explains with great
detail, the many differences between Chinese mothers and western parents have in the upbringing of
their children trying to prepare them for the real world. Amy Chua puts in her own insight of Chinese
mothers trying to justify the Chinese parenting style, however, many western parents would defy
Chinese parenting style .
Amy Chua formed a list of the things she would never allow her children to do. These things may
seem like the normal thing for some, but seem completely bizarre for others. Chua does not allow her
children to:
Attend a sleepover, have a playdate, be in a school play, complain about not being in a school play,
watch TV or play computer games, choose their own extracurricular activities, get any grade less than
an A, not to be number 1 student in every subject except gym and drama, play any instrument other
than the piano or violin, not play the piano or violin (Chua 305). These are just a few of the many
things that Amy Chua and Chinese mothers forbid their children from doing. Many Chinese mothers
would most likely agree with these few basic

Reaction Paper On Guitar
Music is a language utilized by most of the people around the world. It s not only a way of

Some people think that their hand are too small to play guitar. Often people get frustrated because
their hands can t make the big stretches that playing guitar sometimes requires. They mistakenly think
that their hand are too small to play guitar well. For most people, the issue is not hand size, but hand
and finger flexibility. This latter, is the first and the most important, phase in guitars world. All the
hard work should be aimed on getting flexible hands and fingers. It s is the key to success. Basically,

The last one is the equilibration which Piaget believed that a child at this point has the abilities to
balance information back and forth in order to practise and get the information restored. And the child
does it by accommodation and assimilation (Carlson, 2010). In other hand, Vygotsky suggest that
language is the fundamental basis for the children cognitive development (Gross, 2010). Also,
language is one the factors that influence children to use inner speech when learning new objects or
words (Gross, 2010). But there is problem with this theory because other psychologists do not support
this theory. Instead, Piaget argued and suggested that children at that stage are egocentric and have
some form vocabulary limitation. Further, this might explain the children self talk (Gross, 2010). In
another Process which Vygotsky explained was the Zone of Proximal development which the child
learn skills with help of adults to expand their knowledge (Carlson, 2010). Further, Vygotsky also
suggested that by children interacting with their family members helps them to become better verbally
(Beck, 2004). Furthermore, Vygotsky come with theory of scaffolding which is explained that parents
or adults should support their children y solving problem step by step without causing them
frustration. By doing that when children show some form of improvement of master those skills,
parents should then leave the children by themselves (Carlson, 2010). But

Death is Unpleasant, My Friend
The Litigator got what he wanted. A copper tinted key that appealed small in his palms, yet was as
heavy as a stone. While looking at an unmarked gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six foot
hole. Despite the man s dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood had flown
out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed the left
side of his stubble with the tip of his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally interrupted his
finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen. Moonlight was all that

The man in the grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw and responded calmly with,

Space Shuttle Challenger Failure Essay
Cause(s) of Accident
The reason space shuttle Challenger went down was caused by a failure in the joint between the two
lower segments of the right rocket motor. The specific failure was the destruction of the seals that are
intended to prevent hot gases from leaking through the joint during the burn of the rocket motor.
Unfortunately, a combustion gas leak through the right Solid Rocket Motor aft field joint initiated
shortly after ignition eventually weakened and penetrated the external tank starting the breakup and
loss of the Challenger. The evidence assembled by the Commission indicates that no other element of
the Space Shuttle system contributed to this failure. The failure was due to a faulty design sensitive to
a number of factors. ( CHALLENGER EXPLOSION, n.d.)
Structural and Mechanical Factors
There was a fundamental design flaw in the joint that engineers had grown accustomed to and had
learned to live with. Although the boosters were not designed to work this way, it was not uncommon
for the booster casing to balloon under the stress of ignition, causing the metal parts of the casing to
bend away from each other, creating gaps through which hot gases could leak. In prior flights, the

The major contributing factor that caused the O ring to fail was a cold launch temperature
experienced. The O ring would be very slow in returning to its normal rounded shape. The ambient
temperature at time of launch was 15 degrees lower than the next coldest launch. A warm O ring that
has been compressed will return to its original shape much quicker than will a cold O ring when
compression is relieved. ( Spaceline: The Challenger Legacy,

  • 2. Mental Illness Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Abstract Mental illness is a prominent problem in today s troublesome world. Each day many people are diagnosed with a mental illness, most commonly depression. The human mind becomes tarnished when a person has a mental illness, and often the illness takes over a person s life completely. Mental illness is a serious problem and often goes untreated or misdiagnosed. The darkness within a person s mind is one of the toughest aspects of life for people to conquer and many lose themselves in the fight. To further understand mental illness, it would be easiest to peer into the life of someone with one of these illnesses. For example, taking a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While filming the movie, which eventually became one of his biggest successes, he fell in love with his on screen wife Michelle Williams. The love sprouted after Williams had injured her knee and Ledger took it upon himself to care for her. Their love grew so quickly that Williams was pregnant before the film was finished. Their child, Matilda was born in October of 2005. The two girls were the loves of his life which he was quite open about. During the following couple years, Heath s fame increased and the demand for his work grew, keeping him away from home more and more. This led to a break in the relationship between him and Michelle. They separated, and this sent Ledger into the darkest place he d ever been. He was crushed and depressed over the fact that he couldn t spend time with his daughter. This depression, coupled with anxiety and insomnia that he had experienced for most of his adult life, led to him taking a plethora of prescription pills to counteract his illnesses. Eventually, this barrage of medications on his body caught up with him, and he passed away due to accidental overdose on January 22, 2008. The story of Ledger s life is saddening to say the least, and just goes to show that mental illness is a silent killer that can take the life of any unsuspecting victim caught in its path (Pendleton, 2008). Thoreau’s Case for Political Disengagement by Carl Bankston In the article Thoreau s Case for Political Disengagement, the author, Carl Bankston, examines Thoreau s portrayal of having a moral conscience while being controlled by society. The author distinctly explains Thoreau s ideas, while also giving his own opinion on the subject. Absorption in civic involvement, from the point of view Thoreau gives us, dimin ishes the independent self and therefore diminishes the ability to think for oneself, which is necessary for the use of the full range of moral judgment. Moral judg ment, in turn, is essential for true service to civil society. They are all just willing to go against society to be able to use their consciences. They are seen to be treated as enemies for the fact that they are not going to change their opinion, although society wants them to. Thoreau presents the concept that people who work for society, only think based on political conscience. In the passage, it shares Others, as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office holders, serve the state chiefly with their heads; and, as they rarely make any moral distinctions. (P.3) All of the jobs listed are employed within society. All of their jobs depend on them knowing the laws of society. They even make their moral decisions based on their perception of the opinion of society. In some circumstances, Legislators will make moral decisions for the greater good of the community. Thoreau depicts the soldier as an individual that who uses neither political nor moral conscience to make decisions. The passage says, The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. (P.3) Considering the government tries to transform the opinions of the soldier, they do not have an opinion at all. When using the word mass to describe the group of soldiers, the definition of the word brings up the idea that it is a larger body of matter with no shape. It is an Islamic Republic with the nation currently being led by President Ashraf Ghani. Afghanistan is a multiethnic society with a population of approximately thirty one million people. In September 1996 to December 2001, the Taliban, a political movement, formed a government and spread throughout Afghanistan. They misinterpreted Islamic law and inflicted strict and unjust order amongst the Afghans, specifically women. Even after the Taliban s fall from power, women are still being discriminated. Women s rights in Afghanistan are violated, specifically in Article two of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights, through rape, forced marriage, and self immolation. Before the Taliban rule, women were protected under the law and were afforded rights in Afghan society. Abdur Rahman Khan, who ruled from 1880 to 1901, instituted several reforms for women because he wanted to consolidate the nation into a centralized state. Two of the changes he made for women were that he abolished the custom of forcing a woman to marry her deceased husband s next of kin and raised the age of marriage. Women received the right to vote in the 1920s and the Afghan constitution provided equality for women beginning in the 1960s. The Taliban emerged as a resistance movement aiming to remove the Soviet troops from Afghanistan. It was a predominantly Pashtun group that began in Kandahar who came to ... • 5. The Pros and Cons of Pornography Essay For centuries, humans have been creating explicit images to depict their sexual fantasies and desires. Times have drastically changed, however, since the first known sex guide, Kama Sutra, was illustrated in 5th century India (King 412). The selling of sexually explicit material is a multibillion dollar industry (King 411). Today, with just the click of a mouse, millions world wide are able to access pornography and see their sexual fantasies come to life (King 418). According to King, One third of all use of the internet is connected to porn sites, (419). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is no wonder that many women think negatively about most pornographic material. After viewing pornography, women tend to feel less confident and insecure about their bodies (King, 2012). If pornography is degrading and uncomfortable for women to watch, why have 41% of women intentionally viewed porn (King, 2012)? Contrary to the anti pornography feminism movement, proponents of pornography believe that porn liberates women and allows them to take part in less traditional sexual behavior (Evans Cicco, 2012). Some women agree with this claim and use porn to explore their own sexuality (Paul 2012). Pornography for these women is a resource. It is a method for them to discover new sex positions and ways to act sexy (Paul 2012). According to Paul, a [change] in women s expectations and attitudes toward their sexuality are driving women to pornography. This statement indicates that some women want to replicate acts that are presented in pornographic material. It may also suggest that women believe sexual behaviors used in pornography are not only the norm, but expected. To discover if women and men s attitudes about female sexuality have been influenced by pornography, I will conduct interviews based on the strategies that Sterk used when interviewing prostitutes. Sterk made it easier for the women to speak about this difficult topic by first building relationships with them. She also promoted conversations and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medically speaking the gas causes lungs to fill with fluid and the gassed soldiers drown from liquid in their own lungs. The phrase gargling from the froth corrupted lungs (Owen), describes the gassed lungs filled with fluid, producing the same effects as when a person drowns in water. Describing a new terror of warfare. Stanza three mirrors Owen s nightmare memories of this gas attack. • 13. Computer Vs. Personal Computers Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that the personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers were a big deal, but now it s all about smart phones and new ones that are launching soon. People may not think so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart phones now. I understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree with what I m saying, but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers is a better, electronic than smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and are a lot more helpful. First, personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need access to Wi Fi in order to do anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi Fi then you can t access your social media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This electronic is also good for when doing homework because you can listen to music, type better, and faster on the keyboard. In contrary, smartphones are very distracting. • 14. Symbolism of Nature in Poems In literature, writers often use symbols of nature to symbolize emotion and reflection. Flowers may symbolize life as drought may symbolize death and a loss of hope. In the poems The Road Not Taken, Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, and A Poison Tree, Frost and Wordsworth use the shallow image of a flower and the woods to symbolize a change of emotion and thought in one s life. Two roads diverging in different directions lead to an unknown destination because no one knows where the paths will take them. The two paths in the woods are symbolic for there being many choices in life. The speaker also depicts the two paths with leaves covering both equally, which shows that both are mysterious and lead to somewhere unknown to the person traveling it. Also, that no matter what choice is made do not look back, but to keep moving forward. For example in the poem the speaker says, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (536) it depicts that the person is picking the path not commonly chosen by others even if it does not lead to good things. It may be much more difficult, and although it is going against everyone it has set the speaker apart from others. The woods are used as a symbol of a passage to temptation and darkness in the poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening . It is also described as a place of glamour that has diverted the speaker from fulfilling the promise. The poem uses the horse with the bell attached to it as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Hemophilia Introduction to Hemophilia Hemophilia is term coined by Johann Schönlein is derived for Greek and Latin words that refer to one who loves to bleed or hemorrhage (Carson DeWitt, 2014). Hemophilia is a disorder in the body s mechanism of clotting. In simpler terms, people afflicted with hemophilia have a risk of bleeding out from minor injuries. Types of Hemophilia There are three types of hemophilia (hemophilia A, hemophilia B, hemophilia C). Hemophilia A is more common and it is caused by a deficiency of factor VIII (Carson DeWitt, 2014). This deficiency can vary in severity. This is why each case of Hemophilia varies in each case. Most people have severe Hemophilia which means that the factor is functioning at a hundredth of what it should be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hemophilia like many diseases doesn t have a cure at the moment. There are treatment plans available. A doctor will prescribe transfusions usually. Factor replacement therapy injects the missing factor into the system which immediately provides the missing blood clotting factor the afflicted person is missing. These transfusions can be made from human blood or blood from an animal. When the transfusion is from a human, the proteins extracted for the transfusion are sterilized to prevent any blood related diseases. When the transfusion is taken from an animal, the factor desired to be produced is injected into the animal, so it can then produce large amounts of it. After that, the factor is extracted and it is then stabilized so it can be used in humans. The reason why a doctor must be seen for hemophiliacs to be treated is that, hemophilia varies in severity from case to case. This is because every person produces a different amount of the blood clotting factor. One hemophiliac may produce 15% of what a normal person produces while another hemophiliac may produce only 1% of what a normal person produces (HoG) . The amount and regularity of transfusions depend on severity of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After he deserts his long time love and quits his military duties, he still loses Carmen s love, as she fell in love with another man. The soldier then stabs and kills her in a jealous rage. Ramaka was able to adapt this renowned play and transform it into one that politically targets and addresses post colonial issues in Senegal such as: government corruption, the use of public resources for gain, and loss of freedom. The other women seem to see her as some type of idol or hero. I am assuming this is because Karmen does everything we only wish we could do (as was mentioned by one of the translators in class). Women look up to her; especially due to the face that pride, dignity, and beauty are all traits that are greatly admired in Senegal. And the child does it by accommodation and assimilation (Carlson, 2010). In other hand, Vygotsky suggest that language is the fundamental basis for the children cognitive development (Gross, 2010). Also, language is one the factors that influence children to use inner speech when learning new objects or words (Gross, 2010). But there is problem with this theory because other psychologists do not support this theory. Instead, Piaget argued and suggested that children at that stage are egocentric and have some form vocabulary limitation. Further, this might explain the children self talk (Gross, 2010). In another Process which Vygotsky explained was the Zone of Proximal development which the child learn skills with help of adults to expand their knowledge (Carlson, 2010). Further, Vygotsky also suggested that by children interacting with their family members helps them to become better verbally (Beck, 2004). • 38. Examples Of Three Times When I Have Been Afraid Three Times When I Have Been Afraid Every person everywhere has experienced fear. Whether it is a car crash, a bad grade, or getting pulled over by a cop; everyone has a moment in their life where they have been afraid. The three times in my life where I have been extremely afraid were when I sank a sailboat, started a brush fire, and crashed my car. The first example is the time my dad and I sunk a sailboat. The day before the fourth of July my family and I went on a Vacation to Hilton Head Island. While we were on the beach, my dad and I decided to rent a sailboat with some of our friends. My dad gave the unexperienced lifeguard forty five dollars for thirty minutes of sailing time. The lifeguard helped us put the boat in the water and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon the whole neighborhood was crowding around the retention pond. A couple of minutes went by, and the fire truck arrived. The firemen went to work putting out the fire which ended up only feet away from the woods. My last example involved a serious car crash. I had just received my driver s license a week before this day of the wreck. My mom wanted me to drive to the other side of town and drop something off to one of her friends. When I arrived her friend was just getting ready to leave. I gave him my mom s item and went on my way as he left out the neighborhood behind me. I came to a stop sign and I admittedly was not paying very much attention to what I was doing. I looked one way, but not the other and began to make a left hand turn across traffic. Once I realized what was about to happen, it was too late. I had pulled out in front of a moving truck, and it plowed into me on the driver s side door. The force of the impact pushed me into a ditch across the road into oncoming traffic. I was frozen in fear and didn t know what to do. Luckily my mom s friend saw the whole thing and raced over to the car to help me. I had already climbed out of the car, and he helped me call my mom. The police arrived shortly before my parents did and asked for my drivers and registration. I told him what happened and he filed an accident report. My family arrived glad to see I was not hurt in any way. The tow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether volunteering on their free time or getting paid, the leaders at SUN school all value the same thing, equality. All of the students enrolled in this program speak english, however, a large percentage come from different cultures and backgrounds than their fellow classmates. For example, I have a student who s great, great, great.... grandfather (she wasn t sure exactly what generation he was, but knew that he was from her maternal side of the family) was a president in Laos. On the other hand, one of my other students who transferred to a different class is from Mexico and remembers she and her mother sewing her clothing. While these are only two out of many students, it just goes to show that all come from different cultures and live different lifestyles, which is great! • 40. Death is Unpleasant, My Friend The Litigator got what he wanted. A copper tinted key that appealed small in his palms, yet was as heavy as a stone. While looking at an unmarked gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six foot hole. Despite the man s dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood had flown out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed the left side of his stubble with the tip of his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally interrupted his finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen. Moonlight was all that provided a visionary source in Portland. Once you enter, you will see why they are sixes and sevens. The man in the grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw and responded calmly with, Your comments won t matter once you re down there forever. Alone. Six feet under. Where nobody can here peep a word. he paused momentarily. Death is unpleasant my friend The man became fearful after hearing this sad, yet true comment that his chest reacted with a small reflex, causing goose bumps to form everywhere on his body. The Litigator reached for his black pistol in the back pocket of his jeans. He aimed the barrel at the man s forehead. Giving a slight force on the trigger, a bullet gusted out of the gun and penetrated into the man s forehead. Blood quickly pooled from his head. The Litigator was not interested in staying at the cemetery for too long, so he took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Space Shuttle Challenger Failure Essay Cause(s) of Accident The reason space shuttle Challenger went down was caused by a failure in the joint between the two lower segments of the right rocket motor. The specific failure was the destruction of the seals that are intended to prevent hot gases from leaking through the joint during the burn of the rocket motor. Unfortunately, a combustion gas leak through the right Solid Rocket Motor aft field joint initiated shortly after ignition eventually weakened and penetrated the external tank starting the breakup and loss of the Challenger. The evidence assembled by the Commission indicates that no other element of the Space Shuttle system contributed to this failure. The failure was due to a faulty design sensitive to a number of factors. ( CHALLENGER EXPLOSION, n.d.) Structural and Mechanical Factors There was a fundamental design flaw in the joint that engineers had grown accustomed to and had learned to live with. Although the boosters were not designed to work this way, it was not uncommon for the booster casing to balloon under the stress of ignition, causing the metal parts of the casing to bend away from each other, creating gaps through which hot gases could leak.
