When it comes to rates, both of these companies vary in prices by just a dollar or a few. Some of the
services they offer have the same rates as well. But just recently, both these companies have adjusted
their pricing scheme due to increasing fuel prices. FedEx has slowly gained in competition with UPS
in terms of revenue. In a year, FedEx averages about $22 billion in sales while UPS averages $30
billion a year. Sometimes you just have to face the fact that a company s success is best measured by
its results of operations. When it comes to the selling rates of their shares in the stock market, UPS is
still number one with their stocks valued at $82 billion, while FedEx trails by a large margin selling
only $22 billion dollars in stocks.

At the same time, middle and upper class women were increasingly confined to the home with little to
do except to take care of their children. Their husbands no longer worked inside the house, but were
absent during most of the day. These idle women often played the role of frail, sensitive creatures who
had the vapours and fainted in any indelicate situation. On the other hand, many of them also became
critical of their position in society. They found time to devote themselves to various religious and
moral causes and even to become interested in abolition and the women s rights movement.
Eventually, both working class and bourgeois women insisted on change and contributed to the
success of feminism. This success still is not total, and, as we all know, even in the industrialized
countries women continue to fight for equal rights. Today, however, in addition to economic issues,
problems of sexual self determination have come to the foreground.
It must be remembered, of course, that the relatively liberated and affluent women of Europe and
North America are only a small minority of women in the world today. Women in many non Western
countries, and especially in the so called Third World generally live in a state of subjection and misery.
Most of their energy is consumed by a hard and unrelenting struggle for sheer survival. Thus, for
them, any talk about sexual liberation in the Western sense

Prosthetic Hip Dislocation And Its Effects
Prosthetic Hip Dislocation
A prosthetic hip dislocation means that your artificial hip joint (prosthesis) has moved out of place.
This can happen because of a hard, direct hit or injury (trauma) to the hip, such as a fall. A prosthetic
hip joint may be more likely to dislocate than a normal hip joint because a prosthetic hip joint does not
have all the structures that normally hold the joint in place.
After the prosthetic hip is moved back into place, you will generally recover fully. Prosthetic hip
dislocation is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.
CAUSES
This condition is often caused by trauma to the hip. Trauma may be caused by:
Falls, especially falls from a height.
Motor vehicle accidents.
Contact sports.
Industrial accidents.
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in:
People over 60 years of age.
People with bone loss (osteoporosis).
People who lack vitamin D.
People who are overweight or obese.
People who lack hip strength and flexibility.
People with poor vision.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of this condition include:
Severe pain in the hip area. Pain may get worse when you move or try to put weight on the hip.
Inability to move the hip.
The leg on the side of the dislocated hip appearing shorter than the other leg.
The foot on the side of the dislocated hip turning inward.
Loss of feeling in your lower leg, foot, or ankle.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition is diagnosed based on

An Essay About Angels
You are never alone in this life, do not give up, ask the Angels for help. They will answer. Ask for

Angels are constantly around us, so feel free to call upon them for help. That is a joyful work for them

careful that you know exactly what you are asking for. Careful what you wish for, it just might come

The Goals of Hinduism and Buddhism Essay
2. Hinduism and Buddhism are traditions that originated from the Vedic sacrifice practice, and they
share a common foundation in their view of existence. What are the similarities, and very importantly,
the differences in their respective focuses and goals? Also included in this topic: For a time, Buddhism
became a dominant tradition in much of India, but then Hinduism rose to become the dominant
tradition. There are relatively few Buddhists in India today, especially in comparison to the number of
Hindus. Why did Buddhism lose favor , and Hinduism become dominant? Discuss this historically
(what happened and when did it happen) and analytically (why did most Indian people find Hinudism
more attractive).

Buddhism has a similar concept, dhamma (note even the linguistic similarity). Dhamma does not
imply specific biological or social obligations, but maintains a comparable philosophical construct.
The Buddhist definition of right conduct and personal obligation, dhamma is the path which must be
taken to escape the suffering of worldly life.
Other similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism are more apparent. Both religions maintain a
broad perspective of religious worship. Hinduism is polytheistic while Buddhism maintains no
structured belief in an independent, sentient god like entity (especially in human form). Either of these
concepts yields a malleable religion which can adjust and conform to local tradition and fluctuations
in intellectual and spiritual thought. Both religions believe in a system of reincarnation, and both
religions emphasize the community over the self. The major rift between the two religions seems to
stem from the role of social structure in the two religions. Hinduism s caste system perpetuates a
fatalism and apathy toward social rights and advancement while reinforcing the ruling establishment.
Buddhism concentrates on the individual s release from suffering, implying no overriding social
definition. The outstanding example of Hinduism s establishment tendencies is the caste system. The
caste system divides the Hindu people into four major classes, Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and
Shudra, and untouchables, or people outside of

Summary Of Man Ray s Disarming Venuses
In the essay, Man Ray s Disarming Venuses: Deconstructing the Classical Torso in Surrealist
Photography, the author, Kirsten A. Hoving, examines photographs created by Man Ray and how it
relates to the classical Venus sculptures. By using Man Ray s idea of deconstructing the classical
female torso in fragments, body doubling corsets, and formless figures, the author argues how those
characteristics communicate the meaning of eroticism and power within Surrealist photography and
literature. Within the first argument, the author explains how the Surrealist artists drew their
inspiration of the female torso from the ancient mythological god, Venus. Hoving noted that the artists
explored ways which the human body can appear as fragments and how it could be used
systematically. Hoving stated how the Surrealist found the female torso as a metaphor and
metamorphosis (123). The Surrealist artist went further through the exploration of the human figure,
and shocking the viewers in their depiction of mutilated, or distorted bodies. In the 1930s, such visions
have had provided the artist due to the horrors that were placed upon World War I veterans, as they
were left limbless or using prosthetics. Hoving provided an example of physical deformity depicted in
art. She talked about how one of Man Ray s photographs of Lillian Strauss. To support his argument,
Hoving discusses how Man Ray achieved the beauty of physical deformity by deconstructing the

Vampires Vs Modern Vampires
Vampires are popular in contemporary culture. They are the go to creatures, the phenomenon people
love featuring in tv shows and movies such as The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. They both show
modern depictions of what vampires would be like in this day in age. Though, both shows embodied
the idealism of modern age vampires; they each have their own depiction on how they should act,
look, and how each plot of the show should be carried out. True Blood s involvement in these
elements is what made the show successful, not only that, but they even explored social issues about
discrimination, religion, and equal rights. Each tv show was a success on its own.
True Blood is one of the most talked about tv shows today. Alan Ball, the creator of the series, wanted
to illustrate these fictional vampires as these lifeless creatures with pale like skin, razor sharp fangs,
and a lust for blood. They are normal in appearance, making it impossible to detect who they were
unless you triggered their inhumane nature. These characters were assimilating with humanity, trying
to disguise their inhumane nature. Whereas in The Vampire Diaries, Julia Plec, writer, and creator of
the show, made her characters appear stranger. Their eyes would change according to their hunger,
their pale and cold skin would mimic a dead corpse, and their canine teeth would go smoothly through
warm blooded bodies. The vampires in each show are intended to appear as humanly as possible,
whilst experiencing

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the removal (resection) of part of the gland that
produces semen (prostate gland). This procedure is done to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
BPH is an abnormal, noncancerous (benign) increase in the number of cells that make up the prostate
tissue. BPH causes the prostate to get bigger. The englarged prostate can push against or block the
tube that drains urine from the bladder out of the body (urethra). This can cause bladder infections and
difficulty controlling and emptying the bladder. The goal of TURP is to remove enough prostate tissue
to allow for a normal flow of urine.

The history of Canadian immigration highlights that the immigration policies has been selective about
the immigrants coming to Canada. The basis of the choice of immigrants and corresponding policies
and laws were motivated and shaped by the political, social and economic position of Canada
throughout the decades. Through the historical records the Canadian immigration policies had been
heavily influenced by ethnicity, race and religion factors.
The most unconcealed act of discrimination of excluding immigrants on basis of their ethnicity was by
implementing the Chinese Immigration Act of 1885. The restrictions on Chinese immigrants were

One of the common themes in both The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God s Wife is strong women.
All the women in both generations in each book gain strength through different experiences. These
experiences range from a war ravaged China to the modern day stresses of womanhood. Though
different experiences have shaped each woman, they are all tied together by the common thread of
strength.
The Joy Luck Club portrays strong women. The examples that come across most strikingly to the
reader are the women who lived in traditional China. An Mei Hsu gained her strong will from her

Her life has been a series of struggles and hardships, which she has kept from her daughter Pearl.
Winnie s only companion as a child was her mother, who abandoned her just before adolescence, at
the time when Winnie needed her most. Her departure marked the beginning of Winnie s long journey
with many disappointments and tribulations.
Winnie s next hardship came when she was forced to live with her aunt, uncle, and spoiled cousins.
Winnie felt unwanted and unloved. Winnie is older than her cousin Peanut, but because she is a bad
child, soiled by her mother s bad name, she is looked down on. When she became the right age, the
family gave her to the family of Wen Fu, who was to become her new husband. At first, Wen Fu was
loving and gentle. But as time went on, he became increasingly aggressive with Winnie. The first
example of this is shortly after their new union, when they are in bed together. Winnie tells Pearl that
Wen Fu was kissing my nose, my cheeks and shoulders, telling me how beautiful I was, how happy I
made him. Within the next ten minutes, Wen Fu has turned into a tyrant. He whispered for me to say
dirty words, words for women s body parts not any woman s body parts....the kind (of woman) who
would give her body to foreign sailors. From this point on, Wen Fu s abuse becomes more extensive
and frequent.

Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769 in Ajaccio (Capital of Corsica) which is an island 70 miles
west of Italy. His parents were Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. They got married when Carlo
was 18 and Letizia was 14, this was in 1764. Letizia was the one who was always putting food on the

Napoleon got sent to military school (Brienne Military Academy) in 1778. He hated it; his peers were

1788, when he was supposed to be sent to return to duty he actually got sent to the Artillery Training
School at Auxonne. During that year he learned all he needed to know about cannons. The more he
learned about them, the more he liked them. He called them Engines of Death which protected the
brave soldiers. He studied many books about war, geology, and other subjects. His favorite book was
the Social Contract written in 1762 by Jean Jacques Rousseau. Because of this book he hoped for a
constitution limiting the kings power and guaranteeing people rights. Which is ironic because
Napoleon would later be a dictator and the book is based on aristocracies and democracies.
At the end of the eighteenth century the French revolution had spread chaos across France. Lazy King
Louis XVI did little to help France. It is said that his favorite pastimes were hunting, where he killed
1,274 deer and 189,251 smaller animal, this would take a lot of time doing. His other favorite pastime
was rolling pellets of dirt from between his toes and flicking them at anyone who came in his range.
He spent France s money on his personal luxuries. His wife and daughter were the same way. They
were always buying expensive jewelry and expensive dresses. Nobles were also treated very well.
That is the reason why 21 million

Gender Roles And The Media
In the 21st century, we see women in the media have many roles that men have, such as, police officer,
doctor and running to become president, while a nurse and teacher have emerged as both men and

Kate Chopin lived from 1851 until 1904. She was born Katherine O Flaherty and was raised in post
Civil War St. Louis by parents who were on the upper end of society. She married Oscar Chopin,
moved to New Orleans, and had six children. After her husband died, Chopin moved back to St. Louis
to start her writing career at age 33. She incorporated many taboos about literature into her writing.
Some of these taboos were female sexuality, struggles, and triumph over the stereotypes that had been
placed on them over the centuries. She was a very popular writer until 1898 when she wrote about
even more controversial issues in Awakening. Many people felt that her views were very feminist ...

They mention that there is someone (wife/mother) waiting at home for them but they don t put that
much effort into attempting to get home. They seem to believe that everything will be all right if they

unconcerned about the welfare of the mother. The only thing that they do that is seen as kind and
thoughtful is when the father purchases a can of shrimps to take home for her.
The next section of the story shows Calixta, the mother, sitting at a window sewing. She isn t
concerned for the safety of her family and doesn t realize that there is a storm approaching. Like many
relationships, things may be going along just fine until opportunity flashes, like lightening, and a
decision has to be made that will change the future. Calixta s opportunity is in the shape of a man
named Alcee Lavalliere. He shows up at her gate as she is attempting to get her husband s clothes off
of the porch. He asks for shelter and Calixta offers to let him wait out the storm inside. She realizes
that she hasn t been alone with Alcee since she was married and feels the temptation that she knows
she must suppress. At this point, Chopin takes a little time from the action of the story to give a

Leonardo Da Vinci was a True Renaissance Man
Leonardo Da Vinci was a true Renaissance man. He was an inventor, a scientist, a mathematician and

of people in the future significantly, but his inventions did not impact much of world history.
Leonardo Da Vinci s life began as an average but poor child in the midst of the Italian Renaissance. A
period where the main focus wasn t on religion and was more focused on secular themes and
creativity. He was born in 1452 in Vinci Italy and was raised on an estate belonging to his father, while
his uncle also helped raise him. Da Vinci never received a full education like others, but his artistic

college right now, they may define it as a four to eight year money sucking hole. College is one of the
most expensive, and most important, things that you will ever put your money into. The average cost
of a four year degree is ten to twenty thousand dollars. Schooling beyond those four years can be as
expensive as up to thirty thousand dollars a year, based on the kind of degree you are working for.

do with music, theatre, and my academics. I will have to accomplish many things throughout college
to maintain these scholarships, but it will all be worth it when I am able to accomplish my schooling
without any major debts. Working through school is the next way that I am going to earn money so
that I can finish my schooling without an enormous pile of debt. I will work a job or possibly even two

enough scholarships that I won t have to work more than one job to keep up with my expenses. The

The Change in Method of Suffragettes Between 1903 and 1915 From 1903 through to 1915, the
methods that the suffragettes used to gain the right to vote dramatically changed. In my essay I will
explain how and more importantly why the suffragettes went through several methods to get
themselves noticed by the male government. It was in 1903 when the suffragettes started to try and
gain enough publicity so that they were recognised. This tactic mainly consisted of ineffectual
activities like producing and then distributing leaflets. Most people would just discard or throw these
away. The newly founded WSPU, (which was formed by Emily Pankhust) would also make pointless
petitions and organise moves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They did this by heckling MP s. This meant that they would chain themselves to MP s houses, their
limo s or anywhere else the MP s were, especially David Lloyd George. They also organised large
scale demonstrations that would hold up traffic for hours and deliberately get themselves arrested to
gain publicity. All of these things were done to show the government that they were not to be messed
with, but unfortunately the women were only charged with petty vandalism. This is why Christabelle
Pankhurst decided the suffragettes would call the government s bluff and begin their third campaign,
violence. Not only this but they also changed tack because of the situation concerning the conciliation
bills. Lloyd George promised to present a conciliation bill to parliament if they called off their
militancy campaign. They agreed to this but the bill presented was simply talked out . Another two
bills suffered the same fate until the women again felt betrayed by the Liberals and David Lloyd
George in particular. Because of this the womens militancy campaign got worse not better, but at least
womens emancipation was being discussed where it mattered most, parliament. From 1911 the
suffragettes went up a gear and tried to call the governments bluff. They started to cause a real stir and
politicians took notice, for the wrong reasons.

Introduction. As Various Operational Concepts Are Discovered
Introduction As various operational concepts are discovered in their application to organizations, the
discovery also lends credence that these concepts can work in accordance with each other,
simultaneously, or in synthesis with processes or procedures at a multitude of stages. While many of
these concepts are borne out of the manufacturing sector, the concepts in this research are applied to
the service sector, or more specifically, a healthcare organization. Most of the function and form of a
healthcare organization is service based, but a medical center gravitates at times to a production
organization in a broader sense. An illness, injury, or debilitation, can be improved, corrected, or made

Southwest Airlines Seniority
Southwest is the fourth largest carrier in America
The Southwest AirTran merger valued at over $3billion. (Pearlson and Saunders 97)
With very little route overlap between Dallas based Southwest and Orlando based AirTran, the
acquisition could increase Southwest s network by 25% and boost its weekly departures already more
than twice those of any other LCC to about 26,000. Southwest generated $11.2 billion in revenue for
the 12 months ending June 30; AirTran generated $2.5 billion (Compart, 2010)
AirTran had flights to International vacation destinations such as Aruba, Puerto Rico and the
Bahamas, (Perlson Saunders, 2013, p 97)) Airtran also had its services to a few more international
destinations such as Cancun, Mexico, and many Caribbean destinations, this would give Southwest

This is absolutely true and there cannot be a debate on this. The pilots of Southwest expect to be on
top of the list in terms of seniority because Southwest is the parent company, AirTran have pilots with
international destination experience and these pilots will want to head the list as they have more real
time experience. Southwest had to decide whether to merge pilots from both the organizations
together or to place AirTran s pilots below the Southwest pilots. Either way, either of the organization
s pilots would be affected. It was a very crucial decision for Southwest because they have to keep in
mind both the employees before coming up with a result. In November 2011, Southwest Airlines more
than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways 1,700 pilots overwhelmingly approved a plan to combine the
seniority lists of the two carriers, with five out of six pilots voting in favor (Perlson Saunders, 2013, p

Summary of The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay examples
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson, by Toni Cade Bambara, portrays a group of children
living in the slums of New York City around 1972. They seem to be content living in poverty in some
very unsanitary conditions. One character, Miss Moore, the children s self appointed mentor, takes it
upon herself to further their education during the summer months. She feels this is her civic duty
because she is educated. She used F.A.O. Schwarz, a very expensive toystore, to teach them a lesson
and inspire them to strive for success and attempt to better themselves and their situations. At the
beginning of the story, the author gives us the feeling that a child is narrating this story. She also
shows that the child, Sylvia, is at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So this one day Miss Moore rounds us all up at the mailbox and its purdee hot and she s knocking
herself up about arithmetic. And school suppose to let up in summer I heard, but she don t never let
up. (Bambara 470) Miss Moore hailed the group two cabs, and they were off. When they arrive at
their destination, the author gives up another clue toward the extent of the childen s poverty. Then we
check out that we on fifth avenue and everybody dressed up in stockings. One lady in a fur coat hot as
it is. White folks crazy. (Bambara 471) At the store, it is not long before the children begin seeing
things that interest them. The first of these is a microscope that costs $300. Miss Moore comments on
the educational value of microscopes but the children poke fun at the idea. Hey, I m going to buy that
there. That there? You don t even know what it is, stupid. I do so, he say punchin Rosie Giraffe. It s a
microscope. Whatcha gonna do with a microscope, fool? Look at things. (Bambara 471) The next
interesting item that the kids find is a very expensive paperweight. While discussing it, Miss Moore is
sure to convey that while the object is very expensive, it s purpose is very trivial. This here costs $480
dollars, say Rosie Giraffe. So we pile up all over her to see what she pointing out. My eyes tell me it s

My Favorite Archaeological Site In Japan
Japan is a country well known for the preservation of cultural places. In such a small country, there are
many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve.
While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese
culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever
get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the
Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the
main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters
wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took
about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world,
the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt.
Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no
guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most
powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the
tomb was built for him. His actual burial site has not been confirmed, as is the norm for tombs in
Japan, as they are protected by the government from looters and foreign

The Knights Of The Golden Circle
The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) originally began in the arrangements of the Southern Rights
Clubs in the mid 1830s. KGC was a secret society in the United States with the original objective to
annex a golden circle of territories in Mexico, northern South America, Central America, and Cuba
and the rest of the Caribbean for enclosure in the United States as slave states. After branching off
from the Southern Rights Clubs, KGC reorganized in Lexington, Kentucky, by five men, on July 4,
1854. Evidence advocates that Albert Pike (1809 1891) was the mastermind behind the KGC.
Whereas Gen. George W. L. Bickley (1819 1876), was considered the societies chief organizer and
leading promoter. The overall goal for the Knights of the Golden Circle was to become the most
prevailing secret and revolutionary organization in the history of the United States with supporters in
every state and territory before the end of the Civil War. The primary economic and political goal of
this group was to produce a wealthy, slave holding Southern Empire spreading in the shape of a circle
from their projected capital at Havana, Cuba, through the southern states of the United States, the Gulf
of Mexico, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The plan also called for the attainment of
Mexico which was then to be separated into fifteen new slave holding states. The purpose of this
being to move the balance of power in Congress in favor of slavery. Fronting the Gulf of Mexico,

Antonin Dvorak was a Pariotic, Classical Music Composer
Does the idea of a patriotic classical music composer sound a little odd? Believe it or not, the talented
Antonin Dvorak was one such composer. Born in Czechoslovakia, his works were largely inspired by
the multitude of folk music presented in his home land, and also by the incredible Christian Reformer
John Huss. Even though he was a Czech, he did live in America for about 3 years, and from here he
created one of his best works: From the New World symphony. Overall, he can be considered a very
key composer in the Romantic period of music. The famed Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak, was
born in a Bohemian village of Czechoslovakia on September 8th, 1841 (Carlson Smith, 154). After
several years of living and learning music in his home village, eventually Dvorak moved to Prague at
the age of 16 to continue his education in music. Pursuing his studies diligently, and after working
various odd jobs, he eventually became a professor of music at the Prague Conservatory (Pogue
Speck, 64). While in Prague, he married his lovely wife Anna Cermakova in the November of 1873,
and was happily married for the rest of his life to her (Encyclopedia Britannica). Performing all over
Prague, eventually Dvorak s incredible work was discovered by the famed composer Johannes
Brahms, who recommended Dvorak to Brahms publisher Simrock. Simrock took to liking Dvorak s
works so much, that he agreed to publish works like the Moravian Duets in 1876, and the Slavonic
Dances in 1878. These works

This particular book collected data from the students about which type of food they liked most and
used pictures of the food to represent that number.
The bar graph was introduced after the picture graph. The information used in the picture graph was
transferred to a bar graph to show the students the same information in a different format.
The line graph was introduced at the end of third grade, but not in much detail. In this edition, the line
graph is used to display a person s height from birth to 10 years of age.
The circle graph, also known as a pie chart or graph, was introduced after the line graph. The example
in the book was someone keeping track and showing how they spend their day. This is a good example
of how to get the students involved. They could easily keep a schedule of their day and make a circle
graph. That sounds like a great extra credit project to me.
Other skills introduced in this book includes using tally marks to collect the data for your charts, using
number lines to introduce negative and positive numbers, and using that number line to solve
problems.

Fanny Taylor s False Claim in Rosewood Report and Film
January of 1923 became one of the most horrific times in U.S. history and for hundreds of African
Americans, when a white women named Fanny Taylor falsely claimed that she had been beaten at the
hands of a black man. Outraged at these alleged allegations, white men of rosewood would parade the
town in search for the person responsible. According to the rosewood report these angered mobs had
killed about eight blacks including Sam Carter who supposedly knew where the acclaimed suspect
was headed. There were numerous reports of the massacre from newspapers, citizens, and later the
survivors of the rosewood events. Many if not all would offer there bias opinion as to what happen in
the events of Rosewood, It was said in the report that Most major Florida and Southern white
newspapers ran the AP stories but did not editorialize. They expressed alarm at the extent of racial
violence, but generally said it resulted from an attack on Fannie Taylor and blamed the subsequent
deaths on the action of black residents (Rosewood report, p.28) Many of these newspapers in the south
and some in the north would try to justify the violence of the massacre, some like the Tampa Morning
Tribune stating that it was the abuse of a defenseless white women that stirred up the white men to
cause the violence they did. It was also said in the report that African American newspapers

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, diseases are grouped by causes: genetic (adibalapravritta), congenital
(janmabalapravritta), constitutional (doshabalapravritta), traumatic (sanghatabalapravritta), seasonal
(kalabalapravritta), infectious and spiritual (daivabalapravritta), as well as natural
(swabhavbalapravritta) (Warrier, 1997, p. 130). They can also be classified depending on their effect,
intensity, cause, what part of the body is affected, and what treatment is best. Examples of genetic
ailments include asthma, tuberculosis, asthma, epilepsy and some mental disorders. Congenital
disorders include deafness and blindness. Seasonal disorders include frostbite. Most diseases are
considered to be caused by spiritual means, especially according to those strictly rooted in their Indian
culture. Ayurvedic treatment depends on the disease, prognosis, and state of the patient but usually
consists of drugs and diet. Plant based medicines are at the center of the Ayurveda healing process.
Various herbs and medicines are commonly used for treatment including taleespatradi vatakah, which
is used to treat kapha related illness (Warrier, 1997, p. 140). Other common medicines and herbs are
trivrt, rasna, candana, bala, anu taila, and pasamoola rishtum to name just a few of the many options
available. Common diseases or illnesses that occur in India include fevers, malaria, headaches, heart
problems and many other diseases (Albert et al, 2015). According to the Khasi and Garo tribes of

The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold Essay
Question 1 The Land Ethic written by Aldo Leopold was critiqued by J. Baird Callicott. The Land
Ethic in short explained the idea that humans are not superior to animals or species on earth, but
humans should live on earth as simple members. (Leopold, 2013) Callicott found three things that lead
to the confusion, contempt, and contempt of Leopold s writings. The first thing that Callicott
discussed in reference to the neglect of Leopold s writings was the fact that they could actually be
done in a phrase or even one or two sentences. Leopold generalizes Darwin s writings and the
extended paradigm. Leopold states that all ethic s so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the
individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts (Leopold, 2013). Callicott explains
that this basic phrase comes up again in The Land Ethic multiple times. This theory provides a link of
the community concept that all plants, animals, and birds are interconnected with earth other.
(Callicott, 2012) The second thing that Callicott discussed is that Leopold departs from contemporary
philosophical ethics paradigms and patterns. The Land Ethic follows the paradigm that was
constructed by Charles Elton, but the fact is that the writings follow more in line with that of F. E.
Clements and S.A. Forbes paradigm. Leopold states that there are the same repeated paradoxes, man
versus the biotic citizen, land the slave versus the collective organism. The focus on death and health

Essay about Social Media s Affect on Mixed Martial Arts
Introduction
In this research proposal, we aim to discuss the role social media has on the growth of Mixed Martial
Arts. This study was chosen because there is no getting around the fact that social media has changed
the way we communicate and interact. The biggest change is the sheer number of people using social
media websites and the interaction with each other.
The genre of MMA was chosen because it is a relatively new sport, but despite that, it has been
gaining grave amounts of publicity in the sporting world. Unlike other long established, mainstream
sports such as soccer and basketball, the sport of MMA only commenced approximately 20 years ago,
back in 1993. The power of social media has revolutionised the way humans ... Show more content on

Although its negativity has simmered slightly throughout the years, it has not entirely been gone.
With that said, I believe recent advancement of web 2.0 and social media has a huge part to play in the
rapid development of MMA. In this research proposal, we aim to understand the different arguments
and opinions of this topic. Some ideas may be biased, but they stand firm to what they believe in.
Research topic and field
The main research in the literature review will be broken down into two different fields, social media
and MMA. For social media, we will look into the various aspects of social media. Topics such as
social media marketing, advertising and how it integrates perfectly within a business organization will
be covered. We will also be covering the social media aspect of public relations and how it helps
organisations communicate with its public. As for MMA, we will understand and study the history of
MMA and how the sport has used social media to improve the development of the sport. In the
literature review, I would first start by giving a brief history of MMA, how it all started, and
subsequently go into the discourse of social media; the marketing and advertising aspect, and how it
has help the growth of MMA.

How Does Prospero Meet Caliban
The first mention of Caliban occurs before we meet the character, when Prospero tells Miranda the
story of the damned witch Sycorax, a blue eyed hag was hither brought with child (1.2.269). This hag
s child is Caliban, who Prospero highlights was not honoured with / a human shape. (1.2.283 4). Our
primary knowledge of Caliban other than who his mother is is that he is subhuman, which instantly
labels him as inferior. Having a human shape is an honor that Caliban was not given due to his
parentage. The reader is automatically set up to agree with this opinion and it is uncontested
throughout the play. When we do meet Caliban several lines later, he is addressed by Prospero as slave
(1.2.345) and by Miranda as a savage (1.2.355). As a method of constantly and continually demeaning
him, Caliban is never called by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero and Miranda are both civilized, like the Europeans Montaigne refers to. Caliban, on the other
hand, is more akin to the cannibals whose life Montaigne writes about and lauds. In the essay,
Montaigne argues in favor of the cannibal way of life by asserting its proximity to nature, and nature s
inherent superiority. He compares the cannibals to wild fruit and the Europeans to those that we have
changed artificially and led astray from the common order that we should rather call wild . He states
that the laws of nature still rule [the cannibals] very little corrupted by ours; and they are in such a
state of purity that I am sometimes vexed that they were unknown earlier (153). He hails purity as part
of nature s superiority and the ruling of natural laws as supreme. This brings us back to The Tempest,
where natural laws so clearly rule Caliban. It is no coincidence that the name Caliban is almost an

investigation in social science. After further examination of the relevant literature, a pragmatic
approach has also been taken into consideration within this paper. I will discuss in detail about human
perception and assumption and the impact that this can have on research investigation. I will critically

Creswell (2003) refers to paradigms as worldviews which he believes to have four elements; post
positivism, constructivism, transformative and pragmatic. Guba (1998) refers to positivism as a
separate entity from other paradigms such as post positivism and constructivism. Tashakkori and
Teddlie (1998) talk about those paradigms discussed by Guba with an addition of pragmatism and
(Shadish, 1995) talks about the concept of logical positivism . Bryman (2004) refers to positivism and
interpretivism and differentiates these from its variations; phenomenology and symbolic
interactionism. To clarify and make myself feel slightly better Morgan (2007) explains that social
scientists can talk about paradigms and each easily mean something entirely different. Morgan talks
about four versions each version treating paradigms as shared belief system influencing the knowledge
that researchers seek. He uses this concept of a paradigm as his main basis for discussion within his

epistemological views and therefore present differing assumptions of reality and knowledge which is
embedded within their research approach. Kuhn (1970) details paradigms as epistemological stances

Dilemmas Facing the People of Norway Today Essay examples
Norway is a country with a long and interesting history. They are the descendants of Vikings. They
managed to survive being occupied by Germans in World War II, even fighting back as well as they

with the rest of the world in this new age of global connectivity. They are trying to find the balance
between progress and trying to maintain their cultural uniqueness. In this increasingly technologically

The Psychology Of Mental Illness
The history as well as the present study of psychological disorders is confusing and
intriguing.Psychological disorders have been misunderstood since the 4th century BC. Throughout
history knowledge and science have presented various causes, treatments and diagnoses. With the
basic idea proposed by Hippocrates of the connection of our mood to the color of our bodily fluids to
today s modern and scientific diagnoses and treatments , psychological disorders can now be
effectively treated ( The History Of The Psychiatric Diagnostic System, 2013). The psychological
disorders videos in MyPsychLab were all informative. Out of the 10 videos I found the History of
Mental Illness , Personality Disorders and Tami Greens Congressional Briefing on Borderline
Personality to be informative and created awareness in different areas and ways.
The History of Mental Illness is an informative podcast based off of an interview with Dr. Rodger
Christenfeld, the research director at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center located in Poughkeepsie,
NY. Dr. Christenfeld spoke of the psychiatric centers change of names over time from an Insane
Asylum to the present name Psychiatrist Center as well as the possibility of different labels in the
future. He discussed a time of social reform approximately 50 years before Freud in which Charles
Dickens presented the idea of psychological disorders being an illness . Christenfeld addressed the
treatment of the mentally ill throughout history.

Unit 6 Assignment 1 Csh Level 6
Local planning departments can in some instances specify that CSH level 6 is met in specific areas,
this is where the need has been outlined within the local planning policy. However I believe that
obtaining level 6 will be difficult across the board, we would need to practically reach the maximum
number of credits in all of the nine categories which are laid out in the code. There is evidence to
show that the level can be achieved, though it seems there are a lot of hoops to jump through along the

A Fluorescent Mirna Sensor For The Study Of Exrna And Drug...
A Fluorescent miRNA Sensor for the Study of exRNA and Drug Delivery
Abstract: Increasing evidence suggests cell to cell communication is possible through extracellular
RNAs (exRNAs). RNA (including mRNA, miRNA, or lincRNA) has, on many accounts, been found
packaged inside extracellular vesicles (EVs) which may traverse through a variety of bodily fluids to
be taken up by a recipient cell. The biological significance of exRNAs is largely unknown. However,
preliminary studies suggest they may play a role in a variety of important biological processes,
including stem cell maintenance, apoptosis, and cancer metastasis. Furthermore, there is much hope in
eventually utilizing EVs as a drug delivery vector to supply damaged tissues with therapeutic RNAs.
Such a system could overcome the immunological challenges associated with viral vectors. Advances
in understanding the biology of exRNA transfer have been hindered by a lack of dynamic methods for
detecting changes in RNA concentration in vivo. Northern blotting, microarray, and PCR based
approaches are invasive, and sometimes lack sensitivity when dealing with small quantities of RNA.
While evidence of their significance is growing, to date no exRNA has been shown to enter and
function in a cell in vivo. To address these issues, I have been working on the development of a sensor
system for detecting exogenous small RNAs. This molecular sensor will exploit the ability of
microRNAs (miRNAs) to bind to, and repress, target

Trace the evolution Buddhism through the early portrayals of Buddha in Indian art. Use as many
examples as possible in your response.
Throughout time, Buddhism has had a significant influence within Indian art. The evolution of
Buddhism can be examined through the use of Buddha in Indian Art. Through detailed research and
analysis, the influence Buddha portrayed can be examined through the various pieces of Indian art.
Within some of the earliest works of Indian art, Buddha was not shown in the human form. Much of
his appearance was shown through a pair of footprints or an empty seat. (Heilbrunn Timeline of Art

of Qin Dynasty) Qin Shi Huang died on September 10th, 210 B.C. (Clara) It is said that around
700,000 laborers worked to build his burial site at Xian. (Xian Tombs of Qin Dynasty) There was
indeed said to be estimated, 8,000 army figures buried there with the Emperor to guard him in the
afterlife. (Xian Tombs of Qin Dynasty) In March, 1974, peasants had begun working on a field just 20
miles east of Xian. (Xian Tombs of Qin Dynasty) They had soon realized that it was the Tomb of the
Emperor and excavations started immediately. Around the Tomb, many offices, storehouses, sacrificial
alters and cemeteries were found. It is presumed that some of the workers were killed while trying to
protect the grave site. (Xian Tombs of Qin Dynasty) These soldiers found within the Tomb were
known as the terra cotta army, created to accompany the Emperor into the afterlife. (Emperor Qin s

At the same time, middle and upper class women were increasingly confined to the home with little to do except to take care of their children. Their husbands no longer worked inside the house, but were absent during most of the day. These idle women often played the role of frail, sensitive creatures who had the vapours and fainted in any indelicate situation. On the other hand, many of them also became critical of their position in society. They found time to devote themselves to various religious and moral causes and even to become interested in abolition and the women s rights movement. Eventually, both working class and bourgeois women insisted on change and contributed to the success of feminism. This success still is not total, and, as we all know, even in the industrialized countries women continue to fight for equal rights. Today, however, in addition to economic issues, problems of sexual self determination have come to the foreground. It must be remembered, of course, that the relatively liberated and affluent women of Europe and North America are only a small minority of women in the world today. Dhamma does not imply specific biological or social obligations, but maintains a comparable philosophical construct. The Buddhist definition of right conduct and personal obligation, dhamma is the path which must be taken to escape the suffering of worldly life. Other similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism are more apparent. Both religions maintain a broad perspective of religious worship. Hinduism is polytheistic while Buddhism maintains no structured belief in an independent, sentient god like entity (especially in human form). Either of these concepts yields a malleable religion which can adjust and conform to local tradition and fluctuations in intellectual and spiritual thought. Both religions believe in a system of reincarnation, and both religions emphasize the community over the self. The major rift between the two religions seems to stem from the role of social structure in the two religions. Hinduism s caste system perpetuates a fatalism and apathy toward social rights and advancement while reinforcing the ruling establishment. Buddhism concentrates on the individual s release from suffering, implying no overriding social definition. The outstanding example of Hinduism s establishment tendencies is the caste system. Hoving, examines photographs created by Man Ray and how it relates to the classical Venus sculptures. By using Man Ray s idea of deconstructing the classical female torso in fragments, body doubling corsets, and formless figures, the author argues how those characteristics communicate the meaning of eroticism and power within Surrealist photography and literature. Within the first argument, the author explains how the Surrealist artists drew their inspiration of the female torso from the ancient mythological god, Venus. Hoving noted that the artists explored ways which the human body can appear as fragments and how it could be used systematically. Hoving stated how the Surrealist found the female torso as a metaphor and metamorphosis (123). They are the go to creatures, the phenomenon people love featuring in tv shows and movies such as The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. They both show modern depictions of what vampires would be like in this day in age. Though, both shows embodied the idealism of modern age vampires; they each have their own depiction on how they should act, look, and how each plot of the show should be carried out. True Blood s involvement in these elements is what made the show successful, not only that, but they even explored social issues about discrimination, religion, and equal rights. Each tv show was a success on its own. True Blood is one of the most talked about tv shows today. Alan Ball, the creator of the series, wanted to illustrate these fictional vampires as these lifeless creatures with pale like skin, razor sharp fangs, and a lust for blood. They are normal in appearance, making it impossible to detect who they were unless you triggered their inhumane nature. These characters were assimilating with humanity, trying to disguise their inhumane nature. Whereas in The Vampire Diaries, Julia Plec, writer, and creator of the show, made her characters appear stranger. In my essay I will explain how and more importantly why the suffragettes went through several methods to get themselves noticed by the male government. It was in 1903 when the suffragettes started to try and gain enough publicity so that they were recognised. This tactic mainly consisted of ineffectual activities like producing and then distributing leaflets. Most people would just discard or throw these away. All of these things were done to show the government that they were not to be messed with, but unfortunately the women were only charged with petty vandalism. This is why Christabelle Pankhurst decided the suffragettes would call the government s bluff and begin their third campaign, violence. Not only this but they also changed tack because of the situation concerning the conciliation bills. Lloyd George promised to present a conciliation bill to parliament if they called off their militancy campaign. They agreed to this but the bill presented was simply talked out . Another two bills suffered the same fate until the women again felt betrayed by the Liberals and David Lloyd George in particular. Southwest had to decide whether to merge pilots from both the organizations together or to place AirTran s pilots below the Southwest pilots. Either way, either of the organization s pilots would be affected. It was a very crucial decision for Southwest because they have to keep in mind both the employees before coming up with a result. In November 2011, Southwest Airlines more than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways 1,700 pilots overwhelmingly approved a plan to combine the seniority lists of the two carriers, with five out of six pilots voting in favor (Perlson Saunders, 2013, p 97)). Summary of The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay examples The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson, by Toni Cade Bambara, portrays a group of children living in the slums of New York City around 1972. They seem to be content living in poverty in some very unsanitary conditions. One character, Miss Moore, the children s self appointed mentor, takes it upon herself to further their education during the summer months. She feels this is her civic duty because she is educated. She used F.A.O. Schwarz, a very expensive toystore, to teach them a lesson and inspire them to strive for success and attempt to better themselves and their situations. • 26. My Favorite Archaeological Site In Japan Japan is a country well known for the preservation of cultural places. In such a small country, there are many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve. While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world, the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt. Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the tomb was built for him. • 27. The Knights Of The Golden Circle The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) originally began in the arrangements of the Southern Rights Clubs in the mid 1830s. KGC was a secret society in the United States with the original objective to annex a golden circle of territories in Mexico, northern South America, Central America, and Cuba and the rest of the Caribbean for enclosure in the United States as slave states. After branching off from the Southern Rights Clubs, KGC reorganized in Lexington, Kentucky, by five men, on July 4, 1854. Evidence advocates that Albert Pike (1809 1891) was the mastermind behind the KGC. Whereas Gen. George W. L. Bickley (1819 1876), was considered the societies chief organizer and leading promoter. The overall goal for the Knights of the Golden Circle was to become the most prevailing secret and revolutionary organization in the history of the United States with supporters in every state and territory before the end of the Civil War. The primary economic and political goal of this group was to produce a wealthy, slave holding Southern Empire spreading in the shape of a circle from their projected capital at Havana, Cuba, through the southern states of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The plan also called for the attainment of Mexico which was then to be separated into fifteen new slave holding states. • 28. Antonin Dvorak was a Pariotic, Classical Music Composer Does the idea of a patriotic classical music composer sound a little odd? Believe it or not, the talented Antonin Dvorak was one such composer. Born in Czechoslovakia, his works were largely inspired by the multitude of folk music presented in his home land, and also by the incredible Christian Reformer John Huss. Even though he was a Czech, he did live in America for about 3 years, and from here he created one of his best works: From the New World symphony. Overall, he can be considered a very key composer in the Romantic period of music. The famed Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak, was born in a Bohemian village of Czechoslovakia on September 8th, 1841 (Carlson Smith, 154). After several years of living and learning music in his home village, eventually Dvorak moved to Prague at the age of 16 to continue his education in music. Pursuing his studies diligently, and after working various odd jobs, he eventually became a professor of music at the Prague Conservatory (Pogue Speck, 64). While in Prague, he married his lovely wife Anna Cermakova in the November of 1873, and was happily married for the rest of his life to her (Encyclopedia Britannica). Performing all over Prague, eventually Dvorak s incredible work was discovered by the famed composer Johannes Brahms, who recommended Dvorak to Brahms publisher Simrock. Simrock took to liking Dvorak s works so much, that he agreed to publish works like the Moravian Duets in 1876, and the Slavonic Dances in 1878. These works ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold Essay Question 1 The Land Ethic written by Aldo Leopold was critiqued by J. Baird Callicott. The Land Ethic in short explained the idea that humans are not superior to animals or species on earth, but humans should live on earth as simple members. (Leopold, 2013) Callicott found three things that lead to the confusion, contempt, and contempt of Leopold s writings. The first thing that Callicott discussed in reference to the neglect of Leopold s writings was the fact that they could actually be done in a phrase or even one or two sentences. Leopold generalizes Darwin s writings and the extended paradigm. Leopold states that all ethic s so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts (Leopold, 2013). Callicott explains that this basic phrase comes up again in The Land Ethic multiple times. This theory provides a link of the community concept that all plants, animals, and birds are interconnected with earth other. (Callicott, 2012) The second thing that Callicott discussed is that Leopold departs from contemporary philosophical ethics paradigms and patterns. The Land Ethic follows the paradigm that was constructed by Charles Elton, but the fact is that the writings follow more in line with that of F. E. Clements and S.A. Forbes paradigm. Leopold states that there are the same repeated paradoxes, man versus the biotic citizen, land the slave versus the collective organism. The focus on death and health of ... • 42. A Fluorescent Mirna Sensor For The Study Of Exrna And Drug... A Fluorescent miRNA Sensor for the Study of exRNA and Drug Delivery Abstract: Increasing evidence suggests cell to cell communication is possible through extracellular RNAs (exRNAs). RNA (including mRNA, miRNA, or lincRNA) has, on many accounts, been found packaged inside extracellular vesicles (EVs) which may traverse through a variety of bodily fluids to be taken up by a recipient cell. The biological significance of exRNAs is largely unknown. However, preliminary studies suggest they may play a role in a variety of important biological processes, including stem cell maintenance, apoptosis, and cancer metastasis. Furthermore, there is much hope in eventually utilizing EVs as a drug delivery vector to supply damaged tissues with therapeutic RNAs. Such a system could overcome the immunological challenges associated with viral vectors. Advances in understanding the biology of exRNA transfer have been hindered by a lack of dynamic methods for detecting changes in RNA concentration in vivo. Northern blotting, microarray, and PCR based approaches are invasive, and sometimes lack sensitivity when dealing with small quantities of RNA. While evidence of their significance is growing, to date no exRNA has been shown to enter and function in a cell in vivo. To address these issues, I have been working on the development of a sensor system for detecting exogenous small RNAs.
