A very large and important idea in the political texts of philosophers is freedom, and the ways in
which a society may be considered free in the first place. Two philosophers stand out in terms of their
ideas of political freedom: John Stuart Mill and John Rawls. Rawls and Mill both strive to convince
us,
the reader as to what form a society must take in order to maximize its freedom. Mill argues that the
only restraints set upon people are those in order to prevent someone from doing direct harm to
another1
. Rawls goes one step further, where he solves not only the idea of freedom but also the issue
of equality in freedom that is not touched upon by previous philosophers. Although the ideas
presented by John Rawls may seem far fetched in their mechanisms, I feel that his method of
approach towards the idea of modern freedom not only builds upon the ideas of Mill, but also offers

From the moment I walked into St. Mary s Cathedral, I felt out of place. I thought that I would know
what to expect since I have gone to Lutheran churches my entire life. To start with, I was unsure what
to do with the font of holy water when I walked to into the cathedral. I later found out that people who
enter are supposed to dip their fingers in it, and they are to make the sign of the cross with their
fingers. Then as I saw others approach their pews they did some sort of one legged kneel before sitting
down, which I unsuccessfully attempted. Once the service started, I became increasingly lost. I have
grown accustomed to following along to the liturgy in either a bulletin or a book, but there were
neither to be found. The priest would say phrases from his service book, and then everyone in the
congregation would respond with what I assume to be memorized responses. The only times I
absolutely knew what was going on was during the hymns and the readings due to both of these being
in the hymnals in the pews. To make matters worse, there were various portions of the worship service
such as the Apostles Creed or the Lord s Prayer where I thought I knew what to say, but the wording

Alcohol, like many other drugs, is dose dependent, readily absorbed, and widely distributed. As a
result, alcohol affects many organ systems of the body, including the central nervous system (CNS).

that metabolize alcohol than men, and the fact that women have more body fat than men. The blood
supply to fat is much less than that found in muscles. Therefore, alcohol does not get metabolized as
quickly in individuals with a higher fat content. When alcohol is metabolized, acetaldehyde, a
poisonous byproduct, is formed. Alcohol dehydrogenase breaks down alcohol into acetaldehyde.

In the city of New Orleans emerged one of the most influential music genres in U.S. history. At the
time, New Orleans was known for being a melting pot of people or rather, a region where people from
all over the world came together in one place. This city served as a key seaport in the U.S. allowing
for goods to be imported and exported. The purpose of this city was not only strategic to the growth of
the country, but also, the atmosphere allowed for the incredible mixing of cultures, customs, and
traditions that led to the creation of one of our nations most cherished genres of music: jazz.
Jazz emerged towards the beginning of the 20th century, but didn t just spring up out of nowhere.
Instead, it was a creation that developed from popular music styles of the 19th century that were
blended and combined to entertain not only the social dancers, but also, the nation as a whole. The two
main music styles that jazz evolved from were ragtime and the blues. Both ragtime and the blues had
their beginnings in African American communities. While both of these music styles strongly
contributed to the creation of jazz and have a lot of similarities, they do have their differences. These
differences lie within their origins, their instruments, the elements of the music styles and how these
elements influenced jazz, and their artists and composers.
