Red Mangroves
Mangroves are trees and shrubs that grow in saline coastal habitats in the tropics and subtropics
mainly between latitudes 25В° N and 25В° S. The saline conditions tolerated by various species
range from brackish water, through pure seawater (30 to 40 ppt), to water of over twice the
salinity of ocean seawater, where the salt has become concentrated by evaporation (up to 90
ppt).[1][2]
The many species of trees and shrubs adapted to saline conditions are not all closely related, and
the term mangrove may be used for all of them, or more narrowly only for the mangrove family of
plants, the Rhizophoraceae, or even more specifically just for mangrove trees of the genus
Rhizophora.

Shrimps and mud lobsters use the muddy bottom as their home.[10] Mangrove crabs mulch the
mangrove leaves, adding nutritients to the mangal muds for other bottom feeders.[11] In at least
some cases, export of carbon fixed in mangroves is important in coastal food webs.
Mangrove plantations in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and India host several commercially
important species of fish and crustaceans. Despite restoration efforts, developers and others have
removed over half of the world s mangroves in recent times.

Of the recognized 110 mangrove species, only about 54 species in 20 genera from 16 families
constitute the true mangroves , species that occur almost exclusively in mangrove habitats.[3]
Demonstrating convergent evolution, many of these species found similar solutions to the tropical
conditions of variable salinity, tidal range (inundation), anaerobic soils and intense sunlight. Plant
biodiversity is generally low in a given mangal.[1] This is especially true in higher latitudes and in
the Americas. The greatest biodiversity occurs in the mangal of New Guinea, Indonesia and
Malaysia.[12]

Cultural Relativism Used To Oppress Women
Cultural Relativism is the idea that right and wrong are only specific to a culture and because of
this it can be extremely oppressive to women. Accepting the rules and laws that are used to oppress
women because of the belief in cultural relativism is not just harmful to women but can also be
dangerous. Cultural Relativism, in its most common definition can be quite alluring, because it
seems it teach us that we must be tolerant of other cultures, it most cases that is a good thing, but it
the cases of rights of women it is downright inhuman. Cultural Relativism is a flawed concept,
because it is assumed that there is no set of universal moral standards, so we should just accept
things like genital mutilation and arranged marriage that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cultural relativism cast a shadow on the issues that effects women. Cultural relativism does not
allow us to have an open discussion about how we can help women in oppressed societies.
Women are most likely to be harm by this flawed philosophy because it does not take in account
that women rarely get to speak on behalf of themselves. As you look over the arguments against
cultural relativism we see that is has little to do with tolerance, the way we treat each other, and
more to do what a person believes to be true and these are two different sides of the coin.
Tolerance is what we want everyone to have because it teaches us how we should treat one
another. Beliefs can be flawed and because of this it allow bad things to happen. Cultural
Relativism is all about beliefs and not how we should treat our fellow man and that is why it is so
dangerous and harmful to

The Effects Of Smoking On The United States
Smoking is established as a recognized cause of cancer, lung disease, coronary heart disease, and
stroke(US Public Health Service,1964,Doll R 1976,1994, US Department of Health and Human
Services,1989).it is considered to be the single most important avoidable cause of premature
morbidity and mortality in the world. WHO has estimated that there are about 1100 million
smokers worldwide; this represents about one third of the global population aged over 15 years
(WHO,1997). About 73% of these smokers (700 million males, 100 million females) are in
developing countries; in industrialized countries there are 200 million male smokers and 100
million female smokers. In the over 15 year old population of developing countries, it is
estimated that about 48% of males and 7% of females are smokers. The corresponding figures for
industrialized countries are 42% for males and 24% for females (WHO,1997).
Logistic Regression Model: The logistic regression models has wide ranging applications from
determining the population growth and its determinants to applications for predicting and
analyzing qualitative data and in epidemiological studies. Logistic regression model postulates
relationship between the log odds of a disease and the risk factors. A regression predicts the
probability that an observation falls into one of two categories of a dichotomous dependent variable
based on one or more independent variables that can be either continuous or categorical.

The Rise And Fall Of Robert Schumann
Jonathan Villatoro 12/14/14 FINAL TERM PAPER: (THE RISE AND FALL OF ROBERT
SCHUMANN)
Robert Schumann is regarded as one of the most influential and recognized composers and critics
in history. He was born in Zwickau Germany and was most prominent during the romantic era,
writing what many consider some of the greatest but also worst music of his time. He was married
to Clara Wieck and they had eight children. Even though Schumann was able to accomplish plenty
during his music career, his life is considered short lived. Robert Schumann was extremely talented

Robert was very talented, already attending school for piano by the age of six.
Music, writing, and literature were all a consistent and integral part of Schumann s upbringing
and stayed in his life well into his adulthood. His skills as a pianist were growing and he also
started to gain an interest in writing novels as he was getting older. Robert faced his first great
hardship at the age of sixteen when his father and sister both died. His sister tragically ended up
committing suicide. Before his father died he conditioned that in order for Schumann to receive
his inheritance he would have to attend school at a university. He reluctantly accepted and ended
up enrolling in the University of Leipzig to study law under his mother s wishes. Then in 1827 he
became influenced by the Austrian composer Franz Schubert along with the literary influence of
the German poet Jean Paul Richter. He began to compose songs not long after that. Even though
Robert was at Leipzig to study law most of his time was spent composing and thinking about
music. Around this time he also began to take the piano more seriously and started studying with a
celebrated and decorated teacher, Friedrich Wieck. This is when Robert was first introduced to
Wieck s nine year old daughter Clara, his future wife. Clara was an extraordinary pianist who had
just recently begun a successful concert career under her father s teachings. Ironically Robert

have in common? All of these animals are listed under the ESA. The ESA, or Endangered Species
Act, is an act set in place to protect endangered or threatened animals. For over 43 years the ESA
has listed around 2,245 species, 43 of these are listed internationally ( Endangered SpeciesAct
(ESA) 1). Being listed means the animals are eligible for critical habitat designation ( Listing and

Although, some argue that the act is only successful with 2 percent ( Endangered Species Act

supported by the ESA is the West Indian manatee. During the time the manatee was on the list, the
population in Florida had a 500% increase (Grinberg 2). Also, the ESA puts regulations in place to
protect the candidates for the list. They use privately owned grants and programs like, Candidate
Conservation Agreements and Candidate Conservation Agreements with Assurances ( U.S. Fish

successful with more than just the listed species, and should not be disbanded because of the great

Wife Role In Japanese Family
The wife role is centered more around the children and the household. That she is the most
informed about what is best for her children and will explore all options for them. They do not
usually let their children go to a babysitter or daycare because they feel that they can nurture
their children best. Also, the mothers consider motherhood to be highly valued and is
considered the most important thing. The mother knows all that is going on with their child
and has the ultimate authority in their education and attends to all their academic needs.
(Japanese Family) Japan has many traditions that are deep rooted in their religions such as,
Japanese Tea Ceremony, Noh drama, Kabuki Drama, as well as holidays like Japanese New
Year celebration, Coming of Age Day, Shunbun no hi/Higan no Chu Nichi as well as Christmas.
Japanese Tea Ceremony where they bring tranquility to the people involved in it. Noh drama
and Kabuki dramas are dramas combing music, dance and lyrics with ritualistic presentations
and kabuki is the combination of Noh drama combined with folk theater. Though Kabuki dramas
are usually performed by men impersonating women to do the performance. (Traditions) Then for
the holidays such as the Japanese New year celebration that is from January 1st to the 15th.
There is the Coming of Age Day January 15th to celebrate the birthday of everyone who turn 20
over the year because that is when children are an adult. As for Shunbun no hi/ Higan no Chu
Nichi on the days many go visit the tombs of the deceased family members and take care of the
tombs of the deceased. Then they celebrate Christmas as well though it is not a religious holiday
but rather a day to spend with family and friends. (Traditions)
United States America The United States the family structure has changed over the years. The
elderly does not get as much respect as they had once. Families will take care of their elderly
family members some of the time, but there can be resentment to the person. Elderly are not seen
as knowing people in the society but as burdens for some of the people. Gender roles have also
started to change as well though there are still some thoughts that women should stay at home and
take care of the children, women are

Essay on China s Air Pollution Conundrum
Choking To Death: China s Air Pollution Conundrum Long gone are the days when China is
mostly rural with a population consisting of farmers. In the late 1970s, Deng Xiaoping loosened
the controls on economic life, and began a period known as reform and opening. China has not
looked back, and industries continue to develop and millions of people migrate to cities to work
in one of the many factories. China is experiencing record breaking economic expansion. They are
one of the world s largest manufacturers and exporters. However, the citizens of China are living

There is a 97% increase in China s industrial production since 2007, reaching a value of $3.7
trillion (Ross). This historic, exponential growth over the past decade is mainly because of
monstrous expansion of industry and urbanization. However, this requires a tremendous use of
energy, most of which China generates from coal, the most readily available, yet dirtiest, source.
Coal is a cheap, yet harmful, fossil fuel for generating electricity and China is home to one of the
world s largest coal reserves. China burns four billion tons of coal each year, more than the United
States, Europe, and Japan combined (Kahn and Yardley). Most homes, power plants, and factories
run on energy from coal. In fact, 70% of China s energy three quarters of electricity generation come
from coal (Larson). These energy requirements are remarkably high because China must power its
heavy industry plants. China s steel makers, for instance, use approximately one fifth more energy
per ton than the national average, and cement makers require 45% more power. Furthermore, the
amount of energy consumed by the aluminum industry is comparable to the amount used by the
entire country s commercial sector (Kahn and Yardley).
In comparison to the rest of the world, Chinese factories are inferior. Many do not operate or
control pollution efficiently, which aggravates the pollution problem even more. Few coal driven
power plants use modern

significantly degrades the visibility of outdoor scenes. It is due to the atmosphere particles that
absorb and scatter the light. Removing haze means increases the visibility of the scene and
applicable for both color and gray images. The method is a fusion based strategy that derives the
inputs and weight maps only from the original degraded image. To minimize the artifacts introduce
the weight maps. The information of the derived inputs to preserve the regions with good visibility,

The Marshall Plan and Accomplishments of George Marshall...
George C. Marshall was an essential player in the mid twentieth century. His military expertise
and planning abilities led us to victory in world war two. The same made the Marshall plan so
effective in reviving Europe s down economy and standard of living. As secretary of state and
defense his leadership skills and reputation as an honest man made him the perfect fit for the job.
To say the least, George Marshallhad a vast influence over this country while he was in power. On

Fearing the war would go on forever, Marshall came up with a plan to end it. His plan was
dubbed operation overlord, or the D Day invasion of the beaches of Normandy which took place
on June 6, 1944. Nine months later, Germany surrendered, bringing peace to Europe. George
Marshall truly lived up to being the architect of victory that President Truman called him.
Following the war, Marshall made a plan to rebuild and restore stability to Europe. Marshall s
European Recovery plan, or the Marshall plan, was all about the aid of self help, not doing
everything for them. The initiative to rebuild came from participating countries, not the US. The
plan established the Economic Cooperation Administration which provided 13.3 billion dollars to
the participating countries. Although Marshall tried to include the Soviet Union in all this,
Moscow rejected the plan, thereby excluding them from the arrangement. The objectives were to
increase productivity, stimulate economic growth, and to promote trade. All of these goals were
realized by December 31, 1951, when the aid ended. The Marshall plan was one of the most
successful foreign policy initiatives in United States history, and led to a strong NATO alliance. In
order to become the secretary of defense, George Marshall needed a congressional waiver because
the National Security Act prohibited anyone who was an active duty military officer

and wellness, could possibly have to do with each other? And it is indeed a good question.
Somewhere in the early 70 s, when the world was recovering from war and recession, there was
some time to look around and be aware of the overall situation. Clinical psychologists noticed that
people were far less attentive to their surroundings and almost oblivious to the things happening in
their life with every passing second! This may not seem like a problem when we talk on a second
to second basis, but when we take into account an entire day or week or even months, it becomes a
form of unconscious neglect. We start neglecting small things and soon we start neglecting
important things. Mindfulness is a concept, appropriated from ancient Buddhist roots, and
clinically innovated by Jon Kabat Zinn. The idea of mindfulness involves being aware moment to
moment, of one s subjective conscious experience from a first person perspective. It involves
having absolute focus on our actions and as someone wisely said, Actions

China And Saudi Arabi A Comparative Advantage
There is a reason countries trade, countries cannot achieve total economic self sufficiency, most
countries need goods and services that other countries have. As a result, countries must trade to
get all the goods and services they need. Trade is the exchange of an item for another, nowadays
we trade by exchanging money for items. Countries have different distributions of resources,
and countries have comparative advantages in the production of certain goods and services,
therefore they specialize in the production of that good or service. For example, Canada has to
trade with Ecuador or Brazil for coffee beans because of the different climates it s much easier
for countries with a temperate climate to grow coffee beans, therefore Canada exchanges
money or other goods or services for the coffee beans. Another scenario is the different
allocation of resources such as China and Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia has a comparative
advantage in the production of oil, so it would be more efficient for China to buy their oil off
Saudi Arabia in exchange for money or goods and services. Countries can also specialize in
labor intensive industries, for example India have relatively cheap labor, thus other countries
open plants in India to make use of the cheap labor. Such as Coca Cola, an American company
opened plants in India to exploit the cheap labor. Even if a country has an absolute advantage in
all products it would still gain from trading because if they specialize they d be more

vacation. This year, there was additional price pressures as the industry recovered from the hard
winter in the Northeast and Asia continues to recover from it currency crisis induced recession. As
people in affected regions have more discretionary income, they spend greater portions of it on
gasoline for their own cars (Brodrick, 2000).
William Berman is editor of Pump Price Report in Fairfax, Va., and retired energy director for
the AAA, and says that consumers get nervous as gas prices rise. Conventional wisdom is that
families indulge in fewer weekend getaways and long driving vacations with the family
(Brodrick, 2000; p. 000215d), but there is evidence that such is not the case. Rather, Americans
generally will not change travel plans unless gas is over $1.50 a gallon, which of course it is now
(Brodrick, 2000).
Even then, relatively few cancel travel plans. Unless there is a gas shortage so that availability is
uncertain, Americans generally continue with their plans regardless of price.
Gasoline generally is seen as a necessity. Going to a family reunion once a year may be an
option, but going to work each day is not. There is also no option for landscaping businesses and
farmers to defer purchase in response to price. Higher prices encourage conservation, but

Sales of Illegal Goods on the Internet Essay example
Sales of Illegal Goods on the Internet
With the increase of on line crimes and fraud, stricter laws must be placed on the sale of such
problematic items as guns, prescription drugs, and human blood and organs over the Internet. The
selling of these and other items has created many problems in recent months. Most of these items
are auctioned online through popular sites such as e bay. This is a somewhat complicated issue
due to the fact that they are many conflicting opinions. In addition, the laws for and against the
marketing of these products online are very uncertain. There are many activists and liberals in
favor of selling organs and blood online in order to save lives. Many gun advocates such as the
NRA are greatly in favor of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Selling guns online only simplifies this. It will be interesting to see what comes of this as stricter
laws are placed on guns.
Selling prescription drugs online has also become extremely popular within a short period of time.
It is so popular in fact; the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has just set up a new board
that certifies online pharmacies and calls them Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. To
date, there are only four such sites. They are: CVS.com, Drugstore.com, MerckMedco.com, and
PlanetRx.com. This is not to say that no other websites are safe, just that the Food and Drug
Administration does not accept them. People are advised to buy only from the four acceptable
websites. One problem with online pharmacies is that there are only four approved ones. Any
others may be potentially dangerous. These other websites, though they may be completely
legal, and they may be only selling prescription drugs, might not be safe. They don t carry your
medical information only your physician does. Most prescription drugs have precautions and
drug interactions making them unsafe for some people. A simple trip to the doctor s office may
take the risk out of these websites. This view is easily argued by people with little time on their
hands to go to the pharmacist or the doctor s office. They allow people to just fill out a simple
form online to order all their prescriptions. For the time being, making the short trip to your

Zora Neale Hurston Influence
Many writers allow their personal experiences to influence their writing, but Zora Neale Hurston
used her life to influence others. Hurston took her personal experience and used it to show
impoverished black youth that they can be successful. The way she was raised influenced her
and created a woman who would pave the way for feminists to be recognized as a respectable
group. Hurston had a way with words that still, to this day, have an affect on youth and will affect
future generations.. Her childhood and her introduction to average American society developed
Hurston into a preacher of equal rights, a teacher of confidence, and a writer ahead of her time.

Hurston intended to show the beauty and wealth of genuine Negro material as a response to the
stereotyping of black people in literature (Draper 1068 1069). Sykes is shown as a successful
independent black man which was something not seen often in Hurston s time. Her material
mainly focused on black and black relations over black and white relations. By focusing on the
successful side of black life that she grew up with, Hurston was able to show black youth a
potential future for themselves that they may not have thought possible with their current
situation. Condemning those who oppressed African Americans and defying traditional norms
was Hurston s way of disrupting the social climate of the time (Champion). In her works, she
was able to shine a light on societal problems that she believed needed fixing. Literature was the
only way to fight because as a black woman she had no other ways to fight without incarceration.
Hurston intended to present the side of black people that many white people did not see, her
writings were important because they...[presented] characters who...[were] undeniably and
realistically human (Draper 1068). Hurston had to provide realistic black characters in a time
that black people were still seen as worthless by many. She wanted people to understand that
white people and black people were just people. Hurston wrote good characters, not good people,
to show that all races of people had bad eggs. The characters in Sweat were very realistic,
whether they be gossiping on the porch or abusing their wife, they are acting as real people do.
They may not be doing things that are morally right, i.e. being abusive, but that is a fault in
humanity that all races are guilty of. Hurston had seen many different types of people throughout
her life and was able to express these different personalities with expertise. Knowing how to write a

Death By Sophocles And The Holy Bible
Death is a very popular theme in world literature; authors seem to feed off the anguish it causes
readers. However, there are many types of deaths from many different eras. For example, in its
broadest sense death has two forms homicide and suicide. Homicide for instance, dates all the way
back to the two earliest works of literature known to man; The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Holy
Bible. Suicideis also ancient, but has a much darker feel to it. Despite deathbeing universal
throughout time, there are some striking similarities in today s world. Firstly, the story of Antigone,
written by Sophocles in 441 B.C., is the epitome of literary death. One of the main homicides in the
story is the main character s brother, Polynices. In summary, King Oedipushad four children
Antigone, Ismene, Polynices, and Eteocles. Moreover, upon the king s death it was decided that
his sons would cycle leadership each year. However, Eteocles refused to step down, and after a
fierce duel, both brothers were dead. Furthermore, this makes Polynices death an honorable death
in battle. Polynices died fighting for something he believed in and while essentially fighting a war.
In modern day, this death is comparable to that of a solider. The United States has lost many brave
men and women over time in the line of duty. Furthermore, all of these individuals died fighting for
what they believed in: the safety and security of the United States. Towards the end of the story, one
death causes a domino

IBM Case Study Analysis
Introduction:In 2000 the Microelectronics division of IBM found itself struggling as an
unexpected rapid rise of demand overwhelmed the company s capacity. Chris King and her team
had put a lot of effort and time into making the Network Technology Unit into what it had become.
King and her team had started out by setting very bold targets (a BHAG if you will) of achieving
growth levels that were unimaginable at the time and most importantly of becoming a leader in the
business of microchip technology. In order to accomplish this, the teamstarted the planning process

She seemed to have the necessary interpersonal skills, the drive and the ability to build strong
relationships with clients who were somewhat outside the box for IBM, whilst also being a
talented engineer with extensive knowledge of the business. Nevertheless, she lacked some
critical skills such as being systematic, detail oriented, methodical basically the key skills needed
to construct a solid working plan. King was result oriented, therefore once the preliminary
research was conducted and the team had a clear idea of who to target, they had the green light to
aggressively achieve sales any way possible. The driving idea was the audacious goal of becoming
the leader in the business, whereas the exact route to how this would be reached wasn t clearly
outlined.
The first of the line of mistakes was the proposition to the client that with IBM anything was
possible. King promised products that hadn t even fully been developed yet and agreed to supplying
shipments that the company had no capacity for. This for one created some internal discontent as
manufacturing couldn t come to terms with King s requirements. Communication became an
internal issue between the departments. Moreover, the clients became accustomed to the unit
considering and providing for their every need. In reality these promises weren t backed up and
functioned solely due to King s persuasive powers and the ability to maintain strong relationships in
and outside the company.

Alcoholism Addiction And An Addiction Essay
Traditionally speaking, alcoholism is an addiction to consuming alcohol. There are some
organizations and people out there that would combat that widely accepted thought, and consider it
a disease over an addiction. What is the difference between a disease and an addiction? To
determine the appropriate label, both definitions and the actions that give them that specific
definition must be examined. There is a line that separates what is a disease and what is an addiction
and there are many different forms of each. Alcoholismis one that is categorized as both, but often
it falls into the category of an addiction. According to the American Society of Addiction

recognition of significant problems with one s behaviors and interpersonal relationships; and a
dysfunctional emotional response. On the contrary the definition of a disease, according to
Oxford Dictionary, is a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially
one that produces specific symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct
result of physical injury. Both definitions can greatly relate to what alcoholism is and as to why it

Implications Of Dual Language Immersion
Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners
with a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will
explore the Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual
language education has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its
height of popularity in the 1970s, the use of dual language educationin public schools has declined
significantly in recent decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When
used, dual language education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking
students, or students who are not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to
succeed in and complete their education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of
dual language strategies, each with its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically
designed to simultaneously develop English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language

BP Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill
CASE STUDY MINI CASE: BP GULF OF MEXICO OIL SPILL
CASE SUMMARY
1.In a narrative format, summarize the key facts and issues of the case.
In the case of the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill, we examine the effects of an organization not being
prepared for this particular crisis. The world scrutinized the actions, inactions, and the human
decisions made by BP that led to a major catastrophic crisis. The organization was not prepared for
a crisis of this magnitude. Our text stated that this type of negligence has been coined the term
sloppy management. They were oblivious to the issues pertaining to the deep waters, the ocean
wildlife and the habitats of those marine animals. They were not knowledgeable of several things,
along with their initial conundrum of frantically searching for a way to stop the continued spilling
of the oil into the ocean. One article quoted an official saying, We knew how to respond to a
surface spill, but this is completely different. (Bond, D. 2013).
With the modern technology we have, and the easy access, also known as, information age , the
media and social media only seemed to intensify the effects of the crisis (Crandall, W, Parnell, J.
Spillan, J. 2013). This broadened the awareness of certain environmental issues and caused a panic
among the populations. The elite scientists were faced with new issues due to the oil spill that they
too had never intended. After these type of major crises, it creates a learning opportunity for

Glancing around the house, I envisioned myself as a child chasing my cousins in and out of

Falling Is A Crucial Issue Among The Hospitals Essay
Falling is a crucial issue among the hospitals. Even the hospitals make all the efforts to prevent
falls, falls still occur frequently and some repeatedly. According to Currie (2008), approximately
700000 to 1000000 individuals fall in the United States hospitals each year. A fall in a health care
organization is considered a never event by Medicare and Medicaid services(CMS) (Cox et al.,
2015). As the result, health care facilities are not reimbursed for hospitalized falls which increase
the economic burden of hospitals.
Background of study
Falls can be categorized into unanticipated physiologic, anticipated physiologic, accidental or
intentional (as cited in Cox et al., 2015). Furthermore, the causes of inpatient falls include patients
intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors as well as organizational or workforce factors (Cox et al., 2015).
The methods of fall prevention are tailored to patients unique intrinsic or extrinsic risks;
however, fall prevention tactics are not created for an individual, they are used in various
patient populations (Cox et al., 2015). Moreover, the scale from the fall risk assessment tools, for
example: Morse Falls Risk Assessment Scale and the Hendrich I Falls Risk Assessment Scale, do
not specify the type of fall for individual, making it hard to design or direct fall prevention
approaches by individual s physiological or environmental risks (Cox et al., 2015). According to

Charles Engen initiates us positively by encouraging us to think what if each church would begin

church to become in fact what it is by faith, a marvelous statement. Further insights come from
statistical analysis, probing questions of eccesiology directed at questioning if we superimpose
ourselves in areas of polity, form, structure or tradition upon the cultures we reach. I agree
completely that making cosmetic changes or restructuring the denomination may not translate into
crossing barriers from church to non church for the sake of the gospel. The church is compared

Being There By Jerzy Kosinski
Being There is a book that takes a deep dive into philosophical thought and touches on many of
the branches of philosophy. The author, Jerzy Kosinski, tells the story in such a way that many
parallels can be drawn between: epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and politics and events or
ideas that are addressed in the book. By looking at the idea that we don t have to be known by
others to exist as well as that knowledge is in all of us, it is easy to see how the book touches on
the fact that we are all capable of making the right choices and that maybe the best government

what actually makes a person. This is where metaphysics comes into to play for the answer to that
question. One of the most famous philosophers, Plato, defined that a person exists as long as he
thinks I think therefore I am . Even though he doesn t exist in any records he still is a being because
he is seen throughout the book thinking and making actions, which according to Plato means he

So far, I ve set many goals not only on the degree and jobs associated with it, but also goals for the
years to come in my life. Of course there will be a lot of responsibilities and hard work to come
with this major, but in the end hopefully all the hard work and dedication will pay out. I grew up

Associative and Time Series Forecasting Models
Forecasting Models: Associative and Time Series
Forecasting involves using past data to generate a number, set of numbers, or scenario that
corresponds to a future occurrence. It is absolutely essential to short range and long range planning.
Time Series and Associative models are both quantitative forecast techniques are more objective
than qualitative techniques such as the Delphi Technique and market research.
Time Series Models
Based on the assumption that history will repeat itself, there will be identifiable patterns of
behaviour that can be used to predict future behaviour. This model is useful when you have a short
time requirement (eg days) to analyse products in their growth stages to predict short term
outcomes.
To use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be analysed using either the multiplicative or additive method. In the additive version,
seasonality is expressed as a quantity to be added to or subtracted from the series average. For the
multiplicative model seasonality is expressed as a percentage (seasonal relatives or seasonal
indexes) of the average (or trend). These are then multiplied times values in order to incorporate
seasonality.
Associative Models
Also known as causal models involve the identification of variables that can be used to predict
another variable of interest. They are based on the assumption that the historical relationship
between dependent and independent variables will remain valid in future and each independent
variable is easy to predict. This form of analysis can take several months and is used for medium
term forecasts for products in their growth or maturity phase.
The procedure for this model is to collect several periods of history relating to the independent and
dependent variables themselves, establish the relationship that minimizes mean squared error of
forecast vs actual using linear or non linear and singular or multiple regression analysis.
So you first predict the independent variable, then look at the established relationships between that
independent variable and the dependent ones to predict what the dependent variables will be. You
then develop an equation that summarizes the effects of predictor variables.
To do this you will need aggregate data which

Examples Of Chivalry In The Return Of King Arthur
The code of chivalry was developed in Europe during the medieval ages as a system of ethics to
hold knights responsible for their actions. The perfect knight was ideally humble, subservient to his
king, skilled in warfare, and a good Christian. Many Arthurian poets incorporated the ideas of
chivalry into their works. Ultimately, the code of chivalryleft a lasting mark on European culture.
The book The Return of King Arthur touches on the subject of chivalry in modern day practices:
From Arthurian legend, writers and artists took the situations, themes, and motifs which had the
most meaning for them, by means of which they could give new and symbolic expression to their
own experience. King Arthur and his indomitable Knights can be found in modern ideals, ethics,
and art. Literary works in the Arthurian tradition were composed by multiple authors over many
years. In particular, there are four texts that demonstrate the Arthurian concept of chivalry: Morte D
Arthur, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Story of the Grail, and The Song of Roland.
In the tale of Morte D Arthur, King Arthur s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Knight s chivalry depends on the merit of his word. The chivalric code actually limits the power
of nobility. Amanda Whilhite states, It is the addition of the chivalric code which, when analyzed in

aristocrats power. Consequently, a knight s word of honor is meant to bind him to his King. Sir
Gawain would not have been considered honorable if he had not kept his word to the Green
Knight. The power of a promise is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight when Gawain

The Innocence Of Crime In America
Today, our country is filled with a lot of crimes and drugs. According to Numbeo, our
country is in the 78 th ranking of the countries with the highest crime rates. People may think that
just by being in the 78 th place means it isn t that dangerous in it, but as for the people who
occupy our country we know how dangerous it is. Crime can happen anywhere even if you are
just coming home from the super market. The people are scared and are very conscious of what
is happening. Everyday in the news there are stories about crimes, killing, drugs, snatching and
others.
Extra Judicial killing is the act of killing a criminal even before he is presented in trial to

their it makes people think why even lock criminals, if they are not repenting instead indulging
more in their money.
Many people have already suffered from criminals. Some people may have already lost
an important member of the family, Gotten their objects or hard earned stolen, Suffered
themselves on the hands of these criminals. After experiencing these events we cannot help if
they feel hatred for criminals for doing all these, however wouldn t that make us the same as
them if we just kill even just if we suspect them?
In my opinion we should at least think of their side or at least give them the right to prove
they are innocent. We may think of criminals as if they are not humans, but are we also humans
if we can kill them without even hearing them out and just walk away without batting an eye?
I am not fully in favor of extra judicial killing, because it is not justified if we just kill
even in mere suspicion it is not right just to kill someone suddenly we should is not right just to
kill someone suddenly we should get his/her side of the story or at least let him defend himself in

Australian Politics And Its Impact On Social And Economic...
Australian and American politics are both polarised by clashing philosophies between two major
parties dominating the system, however, the United States is faced with a greater political
dichotomy stunting the growth of legislation on social and economic issues. In Australian politics,
these parties are the Australian Labor Partyand the Liberal National Party and in the United States
the Democratic Party and the Republican Party clash. These parties lie on opposite ends of the
traditional political spectrum. The ALP and the Democratic Party both lie on the left, liberal end

The social problem of immigration has manifested through the treatment of asylum seekers and
refugees in Australia. In the United States immigration has divided citizens as Republican have
advocated tightening border control from Canada and Mexico. Both countries struggle to find a
policy that advocates positively for the citizens of their countries and these individuals coming to a
new country. Economic issues also divide parties and can range from taxation to setting budgets.
Parties must use economics both to protect their citizens and maintain their place in the global
world. Economic issues have the tendencies to stem from social issues. Defence spending is an
economic issue that is highly divisive between political parties in Australia and the United States.
No international definition of military expenditures exists; however, the Stockholm International
Peace Research Institute defines it as all costs incurred as a result of current military activities
(Monitoring Military Expenditures para 1). Australia and the United States both face polarisation
between their two major parties in setting the defence budget. Australia faces a polarisation based
on budget setting and parties perceptions of the essentialness of being prepared to handle being a

Can Students Really Improve Academic Performance by...
By wearing school uniforms, students can improve the learning environment. Uniforms increase the
students belongings and school prides. School uniforms reduce undesirable behavior because they
put students in the right frame of mind to learn (Portner). Uniforms can be a useful tool in
improving children s learning skills and attitudes toward school. It increases the student
achievement and level of preparedness. School requires children to put on the uniforms in a
reasonable way to improve learning skills, discipline, and focus (Kelly). Students can consider the
uniform as their school s physical awarded icon just for going to that particular school. Although
this could create the students to discriminate the schools for which the school is betteror worse, they
can be proud of themselves for being a student and be motivated every day to study.
Uniforms also make students to prepare to dress like a professional. Students who learn to dress
appropriately in school also can do so in a professional setting, such as offices (Prill et al).
Uniforms help students to learn how to dress appropriate clothes. Since they are wearing uniforms,
they will get the ideas on how the professional places want to dress. Uniform decreases the student s
behavior problem such as attendance rates and suspension rates (Brunsma and Rockquemore).
Uniforms instill discipline help students focus on their studies and eliminate pressure on parents to
outfit their kids (Kelly). Academic performances

Summary Of Ray Bradbury s Destroy This One Man
We start off with the exposition where Eckels is taking part in a business transaction in exchange
to go back in time for a hunting expedition for dinosaurs. The man behind the desk gives brief
outlines of rules for Eckels, and together with the safari guide (Travis), they travel back to the past.
The rising action starts when Eckels is in the timemachine, with visible signs of anxiety. Bradbury
starts building on our extent of knowledge by letting more concise details roll in along with the
plot. Essential information is given when Travis clearly define the reasons of not straying from the
path , Destroy this one man, and you destroy a race, a people, an entire history of life .

Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment...
Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment
This paper on equal opportunity employment will show a few different types of discrimination that
would impede on a person from getting hired into an organization. It also shows some of the
different Acts from the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prevent discrimination when hiring workers
into an organization.
Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment
Equal employment opportunity involves both workplace nondiscrimination and affirmative action.
Equal opportunity has changed the way businesses and organizations recruit, hire, and even act in
the working environment. These changes have been put in place due to the increasing numbers of
women, people with different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women mainly held low paying jobs and never really worked in a position of authority. The
research on working women in general tells us that there are very few differences between men
and women that affect job performance. Thus, men and women show no consistent differences
in their problem solving abilities, analytical skills, competitive drive, motivation, learning
ability, or sociability. However, women are reported to be more conforming and to have lower
expectations of success than men do. Also, Women s absenteeism rates tend to be higher than
those of men. This latter finding may change, however, as we see men starting to play a more
active role in raising children; absenteeism is also likely to be less frequent as telecommuting,
flexible working hours, and the like become more prevalent. In respect to pay, women s earnings
have risen slowly from 59 percent of men s in 1979 to 76 percent most recently (2003,pg.63).
This research is basically showing that once men and women start acquiring the same roles in the
work and home environment, there is nothing excluding a woman from working a mans job.
Companies may soon realize it might be helpful to have a woman in a certain position to acquire a
certain goal in mind.
Another aspect of equal opportunity in the working environment is the differences between racial
and ethnic groups.

Glass Ceiling Thesis
Abstract
The glass ceiling is an expression used to describe the unseen barrier preventing women and other
minorities from reaching the top executive levels. This problem solution research paper represents
the allegations argued by the critics of the glass ceiling accentuating on the reasons why women
are not able to reach top positions, such as lack of time and family responsibilities. However, it
also represents ways to shatter the glass ceiling such as offering formal educations for women,
helping women with dual roles, and applying proactive recruitment. It is based on several studies
and experiments aim to prove that women do have powerful skills that authorize her to reach top
levels and should not be discriminated against men.

that a family. is built from the union. of a mother and a father, a female and a male. Men are away
from home, most of the time. Then why should women be forbidden from going out to work then?
Nonetheless, with help and support of the other partner, women can manage between the family
responsibilities and the business life. Furthermore, this world has developed and technology has
pervaded it. Then, women have the ability to handle all the managerial work. from behind a screen
at home near her family. Women can separate between family time and work time with the help of
the other partner. Then, they should be given the fair opportunity to express themselves and reach
the top executive levels of management just as men. Another reason that supports why women
should be treated equally. as men is the idea that gender should not be taken as a discrimination
tool. Gender the state of being a male or a female does not reflect the actual capabilities between
women and men. The main reason why females act differently than men is that they are raised in a
way to behave in a certain manner especially in the discriminating countries. That does not show
that women are less than men mentally or biologically. In fact, some women do have higher
intelligence quotient higher than men. (Cowling Taylor, as cited in Jacques,

Depression In William Wordsworth
I have been seeing three new patients recently, all Romantic poets who appear to be suffering
from various levels of melancholy. Although each one of these poets is highly successful and
influential in the Romantic Movement, each has experienced bouts of dejection, loneliness, and
disillusionment with reality. However, this melancholy seems different from cases I have
encountered in the past. Strangely, none of these clients show symptoms of the excessive black
bile that typically associated with melancholy such as apathy, lack of motivation, and
hopelessness (Brady, Haapala). In fact, while all of these clients experience melancholic
thoughts, these emotions appear to be more complex than depression as they allow the
pleasures of deep reflection and often lead to feelings of sublime joy and inspiration. Instead of
suffering from a clinical form of melancholy or depression, these clients appear to be
experiencing a complex emotion of joypain which they believe has the capacity to reveal the
infinite powers of the self or the imagination (Murray, 722). Yet, while all of these poets seem to
believe in the importance of melancholy as inspiration for their work, each of these poets also
seems to express this emotion in different ways. While one of these poets, Mr. William Wordsworth
,
often turns his negative ruminations into positive reflections on nature and memory, Mr. Coleridge
instead experiences deeper melancholic moments that he cannot dispel quite so easily. Mr. John

The Use Of Gothic Elements In Dracula By Bram Stoker
Vampires: How They Were Made
Most people wonder where the idea of vampires came from and how did the first one come about.
The novel, Dracula, is set and written in the nineteenth century during the Victorian era. The
Victorian people had certain beliefs about Christianity and the roles of men and women in society.
Women were allowed only to do certain things and were expected to do specific things in regards to
men. The Victorian people also had their own interpretation of superstitions. Stoker introduced the
Victorian people to gothic elements in his literary works. In literature, gothic novels often use
gothic elements to support their themes and the mood. Since Dracula is a gothic novel Stoker used
the same gothic element ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the gothic element of degeneration and decay supports the theme of good versus evil
throughout the novel. Stoker also uses the atmosphere throughout the novel to establish the vampire
tradition. This gothic element is displayed in Jonathan s journey to Bistritz: As we wound on our
endless way, and the sun sank lower and lower behind us. This was emphasized by the fact that
the snowy mountain top still held the sunset, seemed to glow out with a delicate cool pink...goitre
was painfully prevalent (Stoker 8). Usually the atmosphere of the book is filled with degeneration
and decay, so both of these gothic elements play a role in making a gothic novel. These gothic
elements also establish the vampire tradition of the setting and superstition. This atmosphere
concept is used in other novels as well like the novel Moby Dick: ...its [the ship s] weather stained
hull, its venerable bows, its grotesqueness and somber picturesqueness (Magistrale 203). In this
quote, Tony Magistrale is comparing a ship at sea, the Pequod, to a haunted house on land.
Magistrale s purpose of comparing the ship to the house is to present the use of gothic elements to
build up the setting for a gothic novel. Stoker uses this concept of gothic elements, specifically the
atmosphere, to establish the vampire and gothic tradition of literature. The gothic atmosphere can
set a theme for the superstition of certain atmospheres.

Beta Carotene
As stated in Diet, nutrition and the prevention of cancer by Timothy J Key et.al, Researchers
estimate that 80 90% of all cancers are environmentally related. In that broad category termed
environmental, the National Cancer Institute lists diet as the number one contributing factor. If
someone is ill/has cancer, nutrient supply must be increased for the body to recover and get well.
Certain nutrients may help boost immune systemefficiency which is difficult to accomplish if the
diet of a cancer patient, or someone trying to prevent cancer, consists of high sugar and high fat
diets. In terms of preventing cancerous formations, dietary changes are crucial for those who are
used to the Standard American Diet. Some nutrients/foods that scientists have studied to be... Show

Laboratory and animal research has shown that exogenous antioxidants can help prevent the free
radical damage associated with the development of cancer. (Dr. Walter Willet, 2015). A major
antioxidant study is beta carotene. Beta carotene has shown the ability to scavenge free radicals
as well as inhibit new cancerous cell production. We always hear how vegetables are essential to
a healthy diet but may not understand why. Vegetables contain high amounts of antioxidants, such
as beta carotene, and an extensive amount of vitamins. In green, yellow, and red fruits and
vegetables, beta carotene is present and contains the ability to be converted to Vitamin A, if
needed by the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that converts free radicals to harmless waste and
is said to detoxify carcinogenic compounds. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and free radical
scavenger. It has been shown in studies to inhibit tumor growth and enhance the effects of cytoxic
drugs that block the growth of cells in the body, allowing a reduction of the dosage. (Calbom,
1992) Vitamin D has been studied by exposure of the skin to sunlight as well as

Now that you know which is more dense, what must be true of the particles that make it more
dense?
Prior to completing this lab I believed the nail would be more dense than the stopper. After
performing the experiment, the iron nail contains more particles by volume than the rubber stopper
does.
Part IV
10. The accepted value for the density of aluminum is 2.699 g/cm3. Using this density and the
masses of your two samples of aluminum foil, calculate the volume of aluminum in each sample:
the regular vs. the heavy duty. (Note: You will have to use a bit of algebra and the formula D = m
/v for this calculation!) You must show all your work. (15 pts)
Regular Aluminum Foil:
2.699 g/cm3=0.67g/volume
2.699 g/cm3 x 0.67g= volume
Volume= 1.81 cm3
Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil:
2.699 g/cm3=0.97g/volume
2.699g/cm3 x 0.97g=volume
Volume= 2.62 cm3
11. Using the volume(s) you just calculated for regular vs. heavy duty samples as well as your
dimensional measurements (length and width in cm) from Part IV of this experiment, calculate
the height, or thickness, of each sample of aluminum using the formula V = l x w x h. In the
formula, V stands for volume, l for length, w for width, and h for height. Once again, you will
have to use your algebraic skills to manipulate the formula, to solve for height. You must show all
your work. (15 pts)

The Longest-Personal Narrative

only a sophomore that season. In Montana, the 800m race at the state meet had been dominated
by seniors for decades. The echoing silence filled the arena after the starter yelled, set!. If I were

  • 2. Red Mangroves Mangroves are trees and shrubs that grow in saline coastal habitats in the tropics and subtropics mainly between latitudes 25В° N and 25В° S. The saline conditions tolerated by various species range from brackish water, through pure seawater (30 to 40 ppt), to water of over twice the salinity of ocean seawater, where the salt has become concentrated by evaporation (up to 90 ppt).[1][2] The many species of trees and shrubs adapted to saline conditions are not all closely related, and the term mangrove may be used for all of them, or more narrowly only for the mangrove family of plants, the Rhizophoraceae, or even more specifically just for mangrove trees of the genus Rhizophora. Plant biodiversity is generally low in a given mangal.[1] This is especially true in higher latitudes and in the Americas. The greatest biodiversity occurs in the mangal of New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia.[12] [edit] Adaptations to low oxygen Pneumatophore penetrates the sand surrounding the mangrove tree. • 3. Cultural Relativism Used To Oppress Women Cultural Relativism is the idea that right and wrong are only specific to a culture and because of this it can be extremely oppressive to women. Accepting the rules and laws that are used to oppress women because of the belief in cultural relativism is not just harmful to women but can also be dangerous. Cultural Relativism, in its most common definition can be quite alluring, because it seems it teach us that we must be tolerant of other cultures, it most cases that is a good thing, but it the cases of rights of women it is downright inhuman. Cultural Relativism is a flawed concept, because it is assumed that there is no set of universal moral standards, so we should just accept things like genital mutilation and arranged marriage that... Cultural relativism does not allow us to have an open discussion about how we can help women in oppressed societies. Women are most likely to be harm by this flawed philosophy because it does not take in account that women rarely get to speak on behalf of themselves. As you look over the arguments against cultural relativism we see that is has little to do with tolerance, the way we treat each other, and more to do what a person believes to be true and these are two different sides of the coin. Tolerance is what we want everyone to have because it teaches us how we should treat one another. Beliefs can be flawed and because of this it allow bad things to happen. There is a 97% increase in China s industrial production since 2007, reaching a value of $3.7 trillion (Ross). This historic, exponential growth over the past decade is mainly because of monstrous expansion of industry and urbanization. However, this requires a tremendous use of energy, most of which China generates from coal, the most readily available, yet dirtiest, source. Coal is a cheap, yet harmful, fossil fuel for generating electricity and China is home to one of the world s largest coal reserves. China burns four billion tons of coal each year, more than the United States, Europe, and Japan combined (Kahn and Yardley). Most homes, power plants, and factories run on energy from coal. Furthermore, the amount of energy consumed by the aluminum industry is comparable to the amount used by the entire country s commercial sector (Kahn and Yardley). George Marshall truly lived up to being the architect of victory that President Truman called him. Following the war, Marshall made a plan to rebuild and restore stability to Europe. Marshall s European Recovery plan, or the Marshall plan, was all about the aid of self help, not doing everything for them. The initiative to rebuild came from participating countries, not the US. The plan established the Economic Cooperation Administration which provided 13.3 billion dollars to the participating countries. Although Marshall tried to include the Soviet Union in all this, Moscow rejected the plan, thereby excluding them from the arrangement. The objectives were to increase productivity, stimulate economic growth, and to promote trade. All of these goals were realized by December 31, 1951, when the aid ended. And it is indeed a good question. Somewhere in the early 70 s, when the world was recovering from war and recession, there was some time to look around and be aware of the overall situation. Clinical psychologists noticed that people were far less attentive to their surroundings and almost oblivious to the things happening in their life with every passing second! This may not seem like a problem when we talk on a second to second basis, but when we take into account an entire day or week or even months, it becomes a form of unconscious neglect. We start neglecting small things and soon we start neglecting important things. Mindfulness is a concept, appropriated from ancient Buddhist roots, and clinically innovated by Jon Kabat Zinn. • 18. China And Saudi Arabi A Comparative Advantage There is a reason countries trade, countries cannot achieve total economic self sufficiency, most countries need goods and services that other countries have. As a result, countries must trade to get all the goods and services they need. Trade is the exchange of an item for another, nowadays we trade by exchanging money for items. Countries have different distributions of resources, and countries have comparative advantages in the production of certain goods and services, therefore they specialize in the production of that good or service. For example, Canada has to trade with Ecuador or Brazil for coffee beans because of the different climates it s much easier for countries with a temperate climate to grow coffee beans, therefore Canada exchanges money or other goods or services for the coffee beans. Another scenario is the different allocation of resources such as China and Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia has a comparative advantage in the production of oil, so it would be more efficient for China to buy their oil off Saudi Arabia in exchange for money or goods and services. Countries can also specialize in labor intensive industries, for example India have relatively cheap labor, thus other countries open plants in India to make use of the cheap labor. Such as Coca Cola, an American company opened plants in India to exploit the cheap labor. Gas Price Elasticity Essay Gas Price Elasticity The Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy began tracking weekly gasoline prices in 1990 by means of a survey of 800 service stations around the country. The average retail price for unleaded gasoline posted its fourth record high during the week of June 12, 2000, increasing 5 cents a gallon to an average of $1.681. The price at the pump is higher than the same period last year by 56 cents and has risen 16.2 cents over the past month (Anonymous, 2000). How far will it rise? The end result is that there is little price competition at retail (Brodrick, 2000a). Price increases are normal in the summer months as families pile into cars for the family vacation. As people in affected regions have more discretionary income, they spend greater portions of it on gasoline for their own cars (Brodrick, 2000). William Berman is editor of Pump Price Report in Fairfax, Va., and retired energy director for the AAA, and says that consumers get nervous as gas prices rise. Conventional wisdom is that families indulge in fewer weekend getaways and long driving vacations with the family (Brodrick, 2000; p. 000215d), but there is evidence that such is not the case. Rather, Americans generally will not change travel plans unless gas is over $1.50 a gallon, which of course it is now (Brodrick, 2000). Even then, relatively few cancel travel plans. Unless there is a gas shortage so that availability is uncertain, Americans generally continue with their plans regardless of price. Gasoline generally is seen as a necessity. Selling prescription drugs online has also become extremely popular within a short period of time. It is so popular in fact; the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has just set up a new board that certifies online pharmacies and calls them Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. To date, there are only four such sites. They are: CVS.com, Drugstore.com, MerckMedco.com, and PlanetRx.com. This is not to say that no other websites are safe, just that the Food and Drug Administration does not accept them. People are advised to buy only from the four acceptable websites. One problem with online pharmacies is that there are only four approved ones. Any others may be potentially dangerous. These other websites, though they may be completely legal, and they may be only selling prescription drugs, might not be safe. They don t carry your medical information only your physician does. Most prescription drugs have precautions and drug interactions making them unsafe for some people. A simple trip to the doctor s office may take the risk out of these websites. Condemning those who oppressed African Americans and defying traditional norms was Hurston s way of disrupting the social climate of the time (Champion). • 22. Death By Sophocles And The Holy Bible Death is a very popular theme in world literature; authors seem to feed off the anguish it causes readers. However, there are many types of deaths from many different eras. For example, in its broadest sense death has two forms homicide and suicide. Homicide for instance, dates all the way back to the two earliest works of literature known to man; The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Holy Bible. Suicideis also ancient, but has a much darker feel to it. Despite deathbeing universal throughout time, there are some striking similarities in today s world. Firstly, the story of Antigone, written by Sophocles in 441 B.C., is the epitome of literary death. One of the main homicides in the story is the main character s brother, Polynices. In summary, King Oedipushad four children Antigone, Ismene, Polynices, and Eteocles. Moreover, upon the king s death it was decided that his sons would cycle leadership each year. However, Eteocles refused to step down, and after a fierce duel, both brothers were dead. Furthermore, this makes Polynices death an honorable death in battle. Polynices died fighting for something he believed in and while essentially fighting a war. In modern day, this death is comparable to that of a solider. The United States has lost many brave men and women over time in the line of duty. Furthermore, all of these individuals died fighting for what they believed in: the safety and security of the United States. Towards the end of the story, one death causes a domino ... These are then multiplied times values in order to incorporate seasonality. Associative Models Also known as causal models involve the identification of variables that can be used to predict another variable of interest. They are based on the assumption that the historical relationship between dependent and independent variables will remain valid in future and each independent variable is easy to predict. This form of analysis can take several months and is used for medium term forecasts for products in their growth or maturity phase. The procedure for this model is to collect several periods of history relating to the independent and dependent variables themselves, establish the relationship that minimizes mean squared error of forecast vs actual using linear or non linear and singular or multiple regression analysis. So you first predict the independent variable, then look at the established relationships between that independent variable and the dependent ones to predict what the dependent variables will be. You then develop an equation that summarizes the effects of predictor variables. To do this you will need aggregate data which

Consequently, a knight s word of honor is meant to bind him to his King. Sir Gawain would not have been considered honorable if he had not kept his word to the Green Knight. The power of a promise is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight when Gawain says, I shall grudge not the guerdon grim though it prove; and you may lay on as you like till the last of my part be paid. The Arthurian concept of obligation is clearly seen in Gawain s refusal to retreat from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After experiencing these events we cannot help if they feel hatred for criminals for doing all these, however wouldn t that make us the same as them if we just kill even just if we suspect them? School uniforms reduce undesirable behavior because they put students in the right frame of mind to learn (Portner). Uniforms can be a useful tool in improving children s learning skills and attitudes toward school. It increases the student achievement and level of preparedness. School requires children to put on the uniforms in a reasonable way to improve learning skills, discipline, and focus (Kelly). Students can consider the uniform as their school s physical awarded icon just for going to that particular school. Although this could create the students to discriminate the schools for which the school is betteror worse, they can be proud of themselves for being a student and be motivated every day to study. Uniforms also make students to prepare to dress like a professional. Students who learn to dress appropriately in school also can do so in a professional setting, such as offices (Prill et al). Uniforms help students to learn how to dress appropriate clothes. Since they are wearing uniforms, they will get the ideas on how the professional places want to dress. Uniform decreases the student s behavior problem such as attendance rates and suspension rates (Brunsma and Rockquemore). Women mainly held low paying jobs and never really worked in a position of authority. The research on working women in general tells us that there are very few differences between men and women that affect job performance. Thus, men and women show no consistent differences in their problem solving abilities, analytical skills, competitive drive, motivation, learning ability, or sociability. However, women are reported to be more conforming and to have lower expectations of success than men do. Also, Women s absenteeism rates tend to be higher than those of men. This latter finding may change, however, as we see men starting to play a more active role in raising children; absenteeism is also likely to be less frequent as telecommuting, flexible working hours, and the like become more prevalent. In respect to pay, women s earnings have risen slowly from 59 percent of men s in 1979 to 76 percent most recently (2003,pg.63). • 50. Depression In William Wordsworth I have been seeing three new patients recently, all Romantic poets who appear to be suffering from various levels of melancholy. Although each one of these poets is highly successful and influential in the Romantic Movement, each has experienced bouts of dejection, loneliness, and disillusionment with reality. However, this melancholy seems different from cases I have encountered in the past. Strangely, none of these clients show symptoms of the excessive black bile that typically associated with melancholy such as apathy, lack of motivation, and hopelessness (Brady, Haapala). In fact, while all of these clients experience melancholic thoughts, these emotions appear to be more complex than depression as they allow the pleasures of deep reflection and often lead to feelings of sublime joy and inspiration. Instead of suffering from a clinical form of melancholy or depression, these clients appear to be experiencing a complex emotion of joypain which they believe has the capacity to reveal the infinite powers of the self or the imagination (Murray, 722). Yet, while all of these poets seem to believe in the importance of melancholy as inspiration for their work, each of these poets also seems to express this emotion in different ways. While one of these poets, Mr. William Wordsworth , often turns his negative ruminations into positive reflections on nature and memory, Mr. Coleridge instead experiences deeper melancholic moments that he cannot dispel quite so easily. • 51. The Use Of Gothic Elements In Dracula By Bram Stoker Vampires: How They Were Made Most people wonder where the idea of vampires came from and how did the first one come about. The novel, Dracula, is set and written in the nineteenth century during the Victorian era. The Victorian people had certain beliefs about Christianity and the roles of men and women in society. Women were allowed only to do certain things and were expected to do specific things in regards to men. The Victorian people also had their own interpretation of superstitions. Stoker introduced the Victorian people to gothic elements in his literary works. In literature, gothic novels often use gothic elements to support their themes and the mood. Therefore, the gothic element of degeneration and decay supports the theme of good versus evil throughout the novel. Stoker also uses the atmosphere throughout the novel to establish the vampire tradition. This gothic element is displayed in Jonathan s journey to Bistritz: As we wound on our endless way, and the sun sank lower and lower behind us. This was emphasized by the fact that the snowy mountain top still held the sunset, seemed to glow out with a delicate cool pink...goitre was painfully prevalent (Stoker 8). Usually the atmosphere of the book is filled with degeneration and decay, so both of these gothic elements play a role in making a gothic novel. These gothic elements also establish the vampire tradition of the setting and superstition. This atmosphere concept is used in other novels as well like the novel Moby Dick: ...its [the ship s] weather stained hull, its venerable bows, its grotesqueness and somber picturesqueness (Magistrale 203). In this quote, Tony Magistrale is comparing a ship at sea, the Pequod, to a haunted house on land. Magistrale s purpose of comparing the ship to the house is to present the use of gothic elements to build up the setting for a gothic novel. Stoker uses this concept of gothic elements, specifically the atmosphere, to establish the vampire and gothic tradition of literature.
