What Is The Key Principle Of Functionalism
This paper will review the key principle of functionalism and the theories associated with it,
specifically Humanistic Theory. Then I will explain how the past has influenced how the past has
influenced how we use and research this perspective in the twenty first century. I will discuss the
profession of psychologyand how it has grown across the history and how it has grown across the
history of the field, and how these urges towards the professional organization, ethics and inclusion
of minority views have influenced the various ways of completing psychological work.
Functionalism is the doctrine that what makes something a thought, desire, pain (or any other type
of mental state) depends not on its internal

The Bible Passage Judges Chapter Fourteen
I have selected the Bible passage Judges Chapter Fourteen verses One Twenty and have analyzed
and interpreted this specific passage by using the King James Version Study Bible. I have also
read the article, A Black Feminist Approach to Biblical Studies by Wilda Gafney, which also
interprets and analyzes this specific Biblepassage. After interpreting this passage myself and then
reading Gafney s work, I can see that we had both seen the story pretty similarly except for that she
noticed some specific details in the passage that failed to catch my attention. Her points are strong
and compelling but is she looking too deeply into the story?
The Book of Judges is thought to be possibly written by Samuel and the purpose of this book is
stated to be, to show that God s judgement against sin is certain, and his forgiveness of sin and
restoration to relationship are just as certain for those who repent (KJV Study Bible). Judges
Chapter Fourteen verses One Twenty is specifically the story of Samson s Feast and Riddle. The
author of this passage (thought to be Samuel) is saying that you should not use God s blessings
for selfish purposes. It is a special gift for God to give you these strengths and abilities and to use
them selfishly is robbing God, the church, and his fellow believers (KJV Study Bible). As you
use the gifts God has given you, you should be sure that you are helping others as God would want
you too, not just yourself. This specific Bible passage tells the story

Why Are Hawaiian Animals Endangered
Imagine that Hawaii the tropical 50th state is losing all of it s natural animal species because
either animals had to migrate here or be brought over here by humans for a purpose which
causes new or exotic invasive species to kill off many of the local endemic animals on Hawaii.
Hawaii has lost many native animal species, including bird, reptile, and mammal species due to the
very dangerous invading animals that cause countless problems such as predation, environmental
harm, or human health issues. Throughout the years, many native animals are declining because
of many reasons and that is why preserving Hawaiian species is a worldwide problem. The
purpose of this paper is to share the history of why most of these animals are endangered through
factual evidence. First, the Monk Seal (Monachus schauinslandi) or Ilio holo I ka uaua is the only

Male Homosexual Roles Amog the Isthmus Zapotec of Southern Mexico
Carlos and Javier are two men living in the city of Juchit #8747;n, Mexico. They work at a small
hotel just off the z calo, the main town square. Sometimes they converge with other men outside the
hotel to watch people as they walk past in the z calo. As nearly anywhere in Mexico, the men
comment and nudge each other when an attractive woman passes, but Carlos and Javier remain
silent throughout the exchange. It is not until an attractive young man walks by that they speak up.

MuxeГѓВўs typically occupy work that would otherwise fall into the female sphere, such as selling
in the marketplace and operating cantinas, though some do take work that falls into the male
category, as with those who work in the petroleum industry. Carlos and Javier, however, fall into
neither group. Their work cooking and cleaning at the hotel generally falls into the category of
womenГѓВўs work, but few self respecting Zapotec women would do such work as a profession,
outside her own home. Jobs like these, mainly involving housekeeping, are dominated by
muxeГѓВўs, as is the highly specialized and respected field of dance instruction, according to my
informants.
Sexual relations among the muxeГѓВў seem to be most public with mayates, though some
muxeГѓВўs may enter into relations with other muxeГѓВўs. MuxeГѓВўs and mayates attend
fiestas, weddings, and dances together as would a heterosexual couple, and their presence is not
viewed as unusual. As many women dance with each other rather than with men, so too are
muxeГѓВўs often seen dancing with other muxeГѓВўs, though this does not indicate a sexual
relationship. MuxeГѓВўs and mayates can occasionally be seen kissing in public places as would
many heterosexual couples.
MuxeГѓВўs interact freely with both men and women, entering into scenarios in both the male and
female spheres with relative ease. MuxeГѓВўs often enter into joking banter with

1984 George Orwell Privacy Analysis
In the book 1984, by George Orwell surveillance has many similarities in our society today. Now a
day the government can spy on anyone they want which means nobody has privacy on their
phones. Surveillance is something most people do not believe because most people believe that
when they are on technology they have all their privacy. Technology takes us closer to the world of
big brother because through technology Big brother watches them through surveillancecameras.
Big Brother and his government have power all over his citizens. There is no privacy in Oceania
because big brother watches them through a telescreen. A telescreen is placed in every single room
in Oceania for Big Brother to observe them through a surveillance camera. Every move someone
makes in Oceania means that big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States surveillance cameras are not the same as it is in Oceania. In Oceania
everyone on technology is being watched through a telescreen. The long beach police chief Jim
McDonnell believes that the cameras will monitor what people are doing in Oceania. He also
claims that a surveillance camera will not be a case of Big Brother is watching because a
central control center will enlist the private cameras only when police know an incident is
unfolding in a certain area . The long beach police are using every technology advantage to
improve safety in the city. It is hard to find Privacy in Oceania because of the cameras watching

Essay on Organizational Change at NASA
NASA Organizational Change
A review of the external and internal threats will help determine the weakness of the problem
analysis related to the launching of space shuttle Challenger. At the time of the accident, the country
was experiencing an economic slowdown. Considering the economic climate, Congress wanted to
know if the American people still support the huge requirements of the program. The government
ruled out increase in taxes being an election year. Simultaneous to the congressional investigation
was a launch of space shuttle Challenger. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) wanted a successful launch. A no launch situation might convince Congress to slash the
program s budget. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other possible outcomes could have surfaced with the reframing of the problem. At this point, it is
not important if ultimate problem was one of the possible outcomes. What is valuable to NASA is
that there is free flow of communication among its employees who are receptive to ideas due to the
logic of any proposed outcome.
The group of administrators led by Dr. Loyal downplayed the technical considerations and
believed launch should proceed. It got support from smaller groups involved in the lobbying
efforts who naturally would like the launch to proceed as scheduled (confirming evidence trap).
Getting the support was a selfish move since the outcome would definitely be in Dr. Loyal s favor.
The internal goals of each group should have been considered in the decision. The administrative
group anted a launch while the engineering group wanted a postponement. Are they the only groups
a giant organization NASA has? Truly, other groups in NASA, with their respective interest, exist
and who may help add to the factors for consideration. On these bases, alternatives generation can
improve. Two questions that may have cropped up: Will a launch postponement result in a budget
slash? Will a launch problem endanger the very existence of the space shuttle program?
Some theories in organizational behavior stress the importance of organizational

Perception And Perception Of A Human Mind
This topic is specifically interesting because I want to do a research on how human mind perceives
things as it happens, and the kinds of role that perceptions play in human mind. Perception of things
cannot be true at all the time. It might be illusional. Perception of a certain element/event of life is a
natural cause. It is an instantaneous action inside the brain s functional parts. Consequently, it gives
awareness or consciousness to the mind. The topic is specifically relevant today because perception
is a natural cause, it cannot be evaluated to its full potential. There are always flaw in decoding
perception of a human mind. The significance of this topic is to inform people about direct and
indirect form of perception. Visual perception is a learning process which can be modified at
particular instant of time.
Some of perspectives to support the essay is to inquire how does human perceive information with
development of mind via multi sensory perception, self awareness/consciousness, and indirect
perception. Most of the perspective will concern about the effect of mind perception on particular
age group; infant, child, adult and elder. There will be a detail research on how does the
development of mind with an age can affect our reasoning and perception.
Human beings perceive/drive meaning through senses, ears, eyes and touch. There are different
type of perception especially in psychology that include amodal, color, depth, form, speech,

Technological Singularity
In a guest column, Computers vs. Brains on the Opinionator of The New York Times, Sandra
Aamodt and Sam Wang analyzed some of the arguments by inventor Raymond Kurzweil, one of the
leading inventors of our time, in his most recent futurist manifesto: The Singularity Is Near: When
Humans Transcend Biology (2005). Kurzweil estimates that machines will inevitably be able to
surpass our thinking capabilities within a few decades. Kurzweil s speculative reasoning has been
heavily debated and challenged. In Aamodt and Wang s article they point out that there are
fundamental differences between our brains and computers that makes Kurzweil s predictions
improbable. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the arguments of sides, Kurzweil s book...

New revolutionary technologies are emerging fast to address this issue of increased electrical
power generation and storage needs. An example is teams of MIT scientists that have created a
synthetic, self assembling chloroplast that can be break and reassemble repeatedly, a self
restoring solar cell. (Dillow, 2010). Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which
is producing tiny fuel cell boxes called Bloom Boxes. Two of these can power an average U.S.
home. Each device is about the size of a standard brick. Although they need to be surrounded by a
larger unit that takes in an energy source, they are still about the size of a refrigerator. This
alternative is already being tested by companies such as Google and eBay (Siegler, 2010). One
striking feature of brain tissue is its compactness. The memory capacity in this small volume is
potentially immense. For computer capacity, to begin to approach that of a human brain, as we get
closer to the physical limits of silicon and other materials used in current computing components
like computer chips and memory; manufacturers would possibly need to experiment with other
production techniques and materials. As humans have evolved, we have developed the ability to
make fast inferences in very complex situations. We can make logical approximations and find
good enough solutions. This type of decision making will undoubtedly be hard to match but there
are already robots

Construction Of The Nannobody Library Report
Construction of the nanobody library
Overlapping PCR method was performed for the construction of CDR3 region from degenerate
primer (Fig.2a). Degenerate primer in CDR3, according to NKK number in primer, determined
diversity of the library. The diversity of the library theoretically could be 10 24, but practically it
was estimated to be 5Г—1011CFU/ml. By PCR assembly approach, CDR3 region was linked to
the framework using primer listed in table1 (Fig.2b). In order to obtain acceptable diversity, after
insertion and ligation of sequences obtained from overlapping PCR into pcomb3x vector, a total of

Cross Reactivity of C1 VHH Antibodies
C1 VHH was analyzed against several unrelated proteins. ELISA results showed that the C1VHH
has specificity against HABD and MDA MB 231 cell lysate (Fig. 4c). The nanobody did not show
significant binding toward unrelated proteins/cells.
Expression in E. coli
Transformation of non suppressor E. coli Top10F0 with C1 phagemid was produced a soluble
VHH, showing as an 18 kDa band on SDS PAGE . For overexpression of nanobody, the anti
CD44 VHH gene was subcloned into pET28a expression vector. Nanobody expression and
purification was confirmed by SDS PAGE and Western Blotting. Expression of the VHH antibody
fragments was resulted in a sharp18 kDa band (Fig. 5).

Kantian Ethics And The Land Ethic
There are many portrayals of the apocalypse in modern media, depicting gory battles and
desperate fights for life. But what people don t consider is what happens after the initial
destruction of civilization. For Joe, that is the world he lives in. Joe, has managed to become the
only human to survive the apocalypse, and now lives the rest of his days by himself. Eventually
and inevitably, Joe becomes bored, and in his post apocalyptic boredom, he decides to go on a
quest to kill all animals and plants left on earth. On the basis of Kantian ethics, Joe killing all
livings things on Earth is morally correct. The first reason this is considered right is because
Kantian ethics follows the Principle of Humanity. The Principle of Humanity states:... Show more

The Land Ethic states that an action is right if it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and
beauty of the biotic community (leopold 6). The biotic community includes soils, waters,
plants, and animals (Leopold 2) . When the Land Ethic is applied to Joe s action of killing all
plants and animals, he is committing a huge violation because he is not maintaining the balance
and beauty of the land, instead he is doing the exact opposite and destroying it by killing all
living things. He is also ignoring the holistic principle of the Land Ethic meaning that humans
are a members of the biotic community, not rulers (Leopold 2). When Joe decided to kill all
living plants and animals, he made his choice not as an equal member of the biotic, but as a
superior being. He also broke the Second Second Order Principle. The Second Second Order
Principle says that stronger interests take priority over weaker interests (Callicott 86). Stronger
interests include things needed for basic survival while weaker interests include less important
needs or wants (Callicott 87). In Joe s case, the plants and animals will to survive would be more
important than his lack of entertainment. Because of this, Joe broke the Second Second Order
Principle, and therefore violated the Land Ethic again. With this being said, according to the Land
Ethic Joe was wrong, both when he decided that he was above the rest of the biotic community, that
fixing his boredom was more important than the lives of all living organisms, and when ruined the
stability, integrity, and beauty of the land by killing all living plants and

and it shows the audience that a dead corpse can love a child as much as the living which shows
that anyone can be cherished or loved by anybody. I think it out does any other book in the genre

by doing that the book appeals to me both emotionally and logically because it makes you love

Herzberg Two Factor Theory
1.Job satisfaction:
Job satisfaction can be explained as a feeling of pleasure that one feels with his work, it is
fulfillment of one s needs and desires from his or her work and the environment of work. There
are several theories from past, which tries to explain the job satisfaction one of these theories is the
Herzberg s two factor theory. According to his theory, there are two basic types of work motivators
one is the intrinsic motivator and the other is the extrinsic motivator.
Intrinsic satisfaction is linked with the actual task of the job that is whether the person likes or
enjoys what he or she is actually doing. Does the task make him or her feel been utilized of do
they feel the work they do is helping them grow. The extrinsic motivation is more about the non job

Job dissatisfaction among nurses was highest in the United States (41%) followed by Scotland

Scotland and more than one fifth in the United States planned on leaving their job within 12 months

Why is it important to study a nurse s job satisfaction?
An increase in the studies related to the job satisfaction of nurses has been witnessed
(PIETERSEN, 2005) there are several reasons for this such as:
1.Several studies had shown a decrease in the job satisfaction of nurses in particular.
2.The decrease in the number of nurses worldwide, this decrease in the number of nurses is

How Did Alfred The Great Influence Society
The middle ages was a period of great territorial and social instability throughout Europe. After the
fall of Rome, the Byzantine Empire gained control in the east, while in the west however, no single
empire arose from Rome s ashes (citation). During the 800s or near the end of the early medieval
ages, Christians in southern England were in constant battle with the Danes who controlled
northern Europe. These groups of seven kingdoms in southern England were known as the Anglo
Saxons. Among the leaders of the seven Anglo Saxon kingdoms who were threatened by the Danes

Alfred accomplished this by the formation of a standing army whose main purpose was to provide

The Ethical Imperative Of Recovery Oriented Practices
The aim of the assignment is to critique two research articles; Mental illness and wellbeing: the
central importance of positive psychology and recovery approached (Slade, 2010) and Preserving
the Person: The Ethical Imperative of Recovery Oriented Practices (Atterbury , 2014)and its impact
on practice. For both articles the dominant theme which runs through is recovery.
There is no exact meaning of recovery in mental health. Professional meaning of recovery
differentiate between clinical recovery, where there is no symptoms, and social recovery, where
one live on their own even if symptoms continue (Social Care Institute for Excellence 2007).
Recovery is the process of coming back to a normal state. Other meanings see the growth of
people controlling their own life and the taking of responsibility for one s own behaviour and well
being as the basis of recovery. (Anthony, 1993)

My Family Cultural Analysis
My family mainly originates from the U.K, predominantly Ireland. Both sets of my Grandparents

were from the U.K which consist of Ireland, Scotland, and England. I myself like to think of
myself as Irish because, well, let s be honest, the Irish are pretty cool. This fondness of Ireland
helped me determine what images to use to represent my heritage and culture, these images consist
of the Irish flag, Shepard s Pie, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a rainy forest. I choose
these images because I thought they portrayed how I perceive my culture and heritage, beginning
with the guitars. My Mothers side of the familyholds a lot of musicians who played stringed
instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, or guitar. I myself play guitar and love stringed instruments,

An oligopoly is a market situation in which relatively few sellers [like Burger King, McDonald s]
compete and high start up costs form barriers to keep out new competitors [like Five Guys Burgers
and Fries] (Boone and Kurtz, 2012, p. 80). Within this competitive fast food burger industry, the
main product being offered is a hamburger.
However, one of Five Guys unique features compared to Burger King and McDonald s is to only
offer fresh, never frozen, eighty percent lean meat burgers that are made to order. Many of the
traditional fast food burger restaurants, only offer frozen patties cooked in advanced, and stored
under heated lamp until ordered by the customers. They also offer the customers seventeen free
toppings for their burgers. Additionally, they use the same kind of bun for the burgers; as well as
the original baker.
Subsequently, Five Guys does not sell dehydrated French Fries unlike its competitors. Their
potatoes are slowly grown in Northern Idaho, where the weather conditions are quite favorable for

Civil War Visual Analysis
The painting was very thought provoking and sprouted many ideas in my head, however, their was
one idea that stood out more than the others. I listed the thoughts below in the bullet points. The
color scheme of this painting was very chaotic. The outside areas were vibrants shades of yellow,
green, and some blue. The inner center section of the paintingwas dark red with a big blotch of
black covering it. Other students took the hidden shades of colors to stand for the bravery that
most citizens stereotype war with. However, in reality their is only blood stains that cover
everything and war is just an act of foolishness.
From my point of view, the outside colors stood for the different viewpoints that each individual
brings to the war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So if you look at the painting in this perspective, you can hypothesize that the red and green
viewpoints have collided making the big black blotch in the center.
So it is concludes that when these varying viewpoints collided you create a massive surge of chaos
and bloodshed.
The other thing interesting about the painting was the setting of the picture. Unlike most paintings
this one was set inside a frame that resembled a barrier. This was very creative and gave the
viewer the sense that all these soldiers are trapped in this vortex of unending bloodshed.
Their was a part of the canvas that seemed to run out of the boundaries of the frame. It was
interesting how the blue line leading away from the scene closely resembled a river.
It felt as if many of the soldier may have tried to escape from this gruesome setting by flowing out
of the picture and maybe forgetting all the memories. However, the experience war gives is rarely
forgotten and this clearly noticeable in the picture because the river does not end up leaving the
frame but comes to a standstill or

Child Labor Laws In 1900
Child Labor Laws In 1900, children as young as nine years old were once expected to work
sixteen hours a day in harsh conditions. They were useful because of their small size and the
owners being able to pay low wages. Child labor laws exist because brave men, women, and
children fought for these rights. The conditions of the children s working environment caused
Lewis Hine and the newsies to act upon it.
In 1900s about 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of sixteen. The educational
reformers of mid nineteenth century were convicted to be native born population that an education
from the school was a necessity to them. That led to several states to establish minimum wage for
labor and a minimal requirement for school attendance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But they were they poorest group in society, often were homeless and sleeping on the streets.
The general public also didn t like them. 1815 writer wrote that there are 10,000 children living
on the streets. So it rends the air and deafen you with their shrill cries. When you were walking
on the sidewalks they would surround you. They also would try to force you to buy their
newspaper. They looked ragged and dirty all the time. Newsie were employees of the publisher
and are not newspapers. They would buy paper from publisher and sell them, acting as
independent agents. Typically earning was about thirty cents per day. In 1898 publish raised
the cost of papers to newsboys from fifty to sixty cents per one hundred papers. Sense the
Spanish American was increased newspaper sold like crazy. Then strike began in July 1899
there was a large number of boys that refused to dispute the world. There was people who
protested on the Brooklyn bridge and stopped traffic and news distributers. Demonstrated by
cowling the paper cans and threatening the cart drivers. They threw rocks or beat up at those
who didn t honk. So they brought support to their cases. Then the strike ended after paper had
lost a lot of money. Newsboy strike of 1899 proved a big step in child labor rights. It inspired
strike such as the butte, Montana newsboys and the strike of 1914 and a 1920s strike in
Kentucky. Strikes proved that children had power. They could organize and make things happen
for themselves. The photos of Lewis Hine and the organization of a strike by the Newsie of the
New York due harsh working conditions of the children caused a major step towards enacting of
the child labor laws in the United States. Today s children s voices can be heard on basketball
courts instead of factories and in classrooms instead of workshops. Today s children are very

Girl Interrupted vs. The Yellow Wallpaper
The main character in Susanna Kaysen s, Girl, Interrupted and Charlotte Perkins Gilman s, The
Yellow Wallpaper are similar in the fact that they both were suppressed by male dominants. Be it
therapist or physicians who either aided in their mental deformities or created them. They are
similar in the sense that they are both restricted to confinement and must endure life under the
watchful eye of overseers. However similar their situations may be, their responses are different.
In the stories, there were both positive and negative aspects and characteristics that the two
protagonists possessed. Both women were thought insane and although they may not have been

She does rebel at times but for the majority of the book, she remains compliant. Gilman on the
other hand doesn t always respond positively to her physicians. Gilman is passive in this sense but
aggressive as well because she acts on her own beliefs. Throughout, The YellowWallpaper, Gilman
is forbidden to invoke her passion; writing. Her brother and husband, John are both highly
respected doctors that believe Congenial work, with excitement and change, would only worsen
her case. But in spite of them, she writes anyway making sure not to be seen. Gilman s character
is a little more manic than Kaysen because she is locked up in her own house alone for the
majority of her time. She is unable to leave without permission or write ever. In this aspect, I feel
that being passive aggressive is a positive characteristic because it allows Gilman to fool her
husband into believing she is improving. When in actuality, she s not and she may be going crazy
being cooped up in the house all the time. However it is a negative because unlike Kaysen, she acts
on her impulses without thinking them through. She doesn t take into consideration what the
consequences of her actions may be. For instance, when she starts to notice the figures behind the
wallpaper taking form, she starts to peel off the wallpaper. Although she says she is trying to rescue
the girl stuck behind the dreaded colored paper, this act does not show her husband she is not crazy.

Ethan King Persuasive Speech
Society generalizes first world teenagers, describing them as trapped inside a bubble, shielded from
harsh realities of impoverished nations and living with the delusions that their problems dominate
all others. While this stereotype does not hold true for all young adults, the unfortunate truth
remains: many do not count their blessings. Recently with our soccer team, we had the opportunity
to visit Vista Maria, a home and school in Dearborn for girls ages 11 to 17 coming from abusive
domestic environments, including sex trafficking and family deficiencies. Interacting with the
bright and beautiful girls felt incredible and encouraged us and the team to truly understand how
fortunate we live. This trip inspired us to plan on visiting Vista... Show more content on

Thomas Paine And The Age Of Revolution
Benjamin Franklin once said, Where liberty dwells, there is my country . What did he mean by
this statement? It s a way of saying that where he lives, America, there is liberty. To claim the
location of liberty to be one s country, is to say that the location of one s loyalty is dependent on
the location of liberty. The location of liberty was crucial to Franklin, to colonists. In the Colonial
Period, colonists arrived from Europe in search for religious freedom, land, and the chance for
wealth. But even so, Europe governed newcomers; this resulted in anger and rebellion. A period in
early American history that occurred in the creation of a new, independent nation. This then
extended to another important time in history, a time in which the first pamphlet to advocate
American independence was published and seen. Thomas Paine helped shape the ideas of the Age
of Revolution. He outlined ideas of the superiority of the monarchial system, the equality of right s
among citizens, and of the significance of the American Revolution. He was a man that fought for
freedom, fought for independence. Paine transformed the struggle over the rights of English
people into a contest with meaning for people everywhere (History). And as periods go by,
people similar to their pride and drive for free will live today. People tend to overlook the work
that soldiers put in everyday to maintain the freedom Americans have today. And to an extent it s
very human, but as a country it s important to

The Token Status Of Female And Female Relational...
The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets
and the existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures
experienced by token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of
West Point exacerbate female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in
an effort to be accepted by the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between
tokenism and female relational aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze
their experience as tokens and their experience with relational aggression. I will then draw from
these surveys to see if any connections exist between the two areas. Tokenism In Rosabeth Moss
Kanter s Men and Women of the Corporation, she lays out the theoretical framework of tokenism
through the evaluation of Industrial Supply Corporation, Indsco. In this corporation, women
held less than 10% of the salaried positions and no women were at the level reporting to officers
(Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a phenomenon that occurs in organizations where
groups of people are skewed in such a way that there is a large preponderance of one type over
another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Those who make up the numerical majority of the
group are labeled as the dominants and those who make up the minority are labeled as tokens.
Kanter indicates that they are labeled as such because

Clara Barton Women In The Military
Clara Barton, who was born in 1821, grew up in Massachusetts. Growing up with five siblings,
she was taught that women weren t supposed to do activities such as being a nurse or working in
the military. While this was not the norm, she wished to become a nurse as a child because she
was influenced by her father who worked in the military. She was a rebel. He would come home
to tell her tales of his time in the military which often included stories of his wounded cohorts. At
only ten years old, she took it upon herself to nurse her brother back to health after he fell off the
roof of their barn. Eventually, she turned to teaching as she got older. During her time as a teacher
her students were so well behaved the parents deemed her the best discipliner. Offended, she

Music does have an Effect on Peoples Moods, Emotions Actions Music has an exceptional way
of transcending feelings, emotions, and information across the world. It is a beautiful, yet
powerful force is composed of feeling, abundance, and raw emotion and influences our way of

walking on the planks of a deck, or as intricate as a twelve part symphony. This thesis will examine
how music as a whole, effects peoples mind, body, actions, moods and emotions. As music is also
an amazing persuasive device, this examination also answers three main underlining questions; does

When rock music had violent lyrics the people that was used for research there attitudes and
emotions were different then prior to listening to the song. All of them were more aggressive
towards political issues and towards there spouses, but necessarily in a negative way, but more
aggression in speech and in there attitude in how they approached situations that involved
emotional reaction (Anderson 121). As for the rap, genre people that were tested for this had
varied emotional differences. 29% seemed more aggressive, 15% had no change, 11% felt more
comfortable, 41% felt like it was a story telling session, and the other 4% and no data reported.
Can tempo and the change of beats in music change mood mediation? Beats and timing is the
basis of music. A little tap on wood is music. Anything rhythmic that changes emotion and moods
is what is being researched here. A fast paced rock or ska song makes people (in study shown
here by William Balch) want to get up and dance, but when it comes to a love Ballard by Luther
Vandros or Barry White, a feeling of warmth and longing for your significant other becomes
evident. When asked of what colors can be used to see how they feel when listening to those two
genre types, orange and red was used for rock and ska, blue was mostly used for the love Ballard.
Tempo and beats is what causes people to bounce there heads or to feel warmth within, causing

According to Rothwell, Resistance is a covert form of communicating noncompliance, and it is
often duplicitous and manipulative...when faced with a dominant individual (supervisor, parent, or
group leader), it is often safer to employ indirect means of noncompliance than direct confrontation
or open defiance (326). In the Milgram experiment, there was an authoritative figure giving
commands to the participants. Therefore, in order to resist, using indirect means of noncompliance
would be a more useful tactic. In addition, there are many different resistance techniques and out
of all of them I believe purposeful procrastination would have been the most suitable. Participants
could have procrastinated shocking their victims indefinitely, which would be a useful and subtle
means of defiance. Another reason this could prove useful is because some of the participants
could feel too intimidated by the authoritative figure. Lastly, everyone is different and we all have
different ways of balancing power. I simply would have used defiance and walked

The author of this passage, Ban Zhao, seemed to be very knowledgeable and influential to young

I think at the time the author may of tried to target an audience of young girls. Instead of writing a

from it or apply it to your life. An audience that lived in that time period may read this with a
different mindset than someone of this era.
The passage Lesson for Women was a very informative and interesting work to read about. After

Disillusionment In Frankenstein
Contemporary literature reflects on contemporary life and culture. It is sometimes reflected by a

Shelley s Frankenstein, the character of the creature discovers a lack of love and passion within
Victor toward him which represents that man s need to inspire love causes him to become evil. In
regards to the character of Victor Frankenstein, he show his love for science. Shelley portrays love

A Proposal For A New Factory
Introduction Longchamp is a French firm created in Paris in 1948, known for its luxury fashion
leather and canvas goods, such as handbags and luggage. Thanks to its expertise, Longchamp is
distributed in more than 275 stores worldwide. We would like to expand our production;
therefore we chose to open a new factory in Romania. In this report, we will explain the reasons
why we made this decision. 1)Tax costs Regarding tax costs, Romania is as a highly taxed
country, just like France. Indeed, income and capital gains earned by corporation are taxed at a
rate of 16%. More specifically, these data clearly demonstrate that Romania has payments
percentage and profit taxes higher than France. Even if Romania is more taxed than France
regarding corporate and income taxes, it is the opposite scheme for labor taxes and contributions.
This inversion is due to low labor costs. Certainly high tax costs can be a constraint to produce in
this country but we choose Romania for other reasons like the low labor cost and the proximity
with our primary market, France. 2) Legal environment Thanks to the accession to the EU and the
increasing integration in European markets, Romania s structural reform has progressed. Romania
s reform and liberalization process created large foreign exchange inflows and a positive view of
Romania s prospects. However, the judicial power is not entirely independent. It is very influenced

Importance Of Absolute Monarchy
Absolute Monarchy In all age rulers always wanted to be absolute monarchs, not only the kings
but also the queens. Their goal was to control every aspect of society. Throughout the 16th and
17th Century the rise of many absolute monarchies become a common phenomenon in many
European countries. The power controlling under one people s hand makes economic
development rapid, allows for long term goals to be planned and met and allows for quicker
decisions to be made. Among all the leaders, Peter the Great, Maria Theresa, and Louis XIV can
regard as the main representative. Admittedly, none of the countries will last long without a
long term plan of development. However, absolute monarchy is the best way to achieve this
goal. If the countries are under several parts of forces or a fatuous and self indulgent ruler, it
will be hard to take everyone s idea into consideration. And finally, the country will move towards
died. Nevertheless, if the country is an intelligent and powerful king s country, the country will
become flourish and develop rapidly. Peter the Great s example can be raised here. He has been
known as the great Russia reformer in the history. During that period of time, when all the other

Essay on A Fictional Account of Early Iceland
A Fictional Account of Early Iceland
The origin and evolution of saga writing in Iceland are largely matters for speculation. A common
pastime on Icelandic farms, from the 12th century down to modern times, was the reading aloud of
stories to entertain the household, known as sagnaskemmtun ( saga entertainment ). It seems to
have replaced the traditional art of storytelling (Hermann Palsson, pg. 1). Njal s Saga uses Old
Icelandic writing convention and historical data to give a fictional account of a generation s
lifestyle and struggles.
Icelandic literature has become very valuable because historians have realized the great amount of
truth that can be found in each saga. According to one historian, the sagas have proven to be ...

1). Animal products provided the mainstay of the Icelandic diet. An emphasis on dairy cattle and
sheep meant that lamb and beef and dairy products such as cheese and whey were relatively
plentiful, especially following good seasons (Gary Martin, pg. 2)
Despite the abundance of food, as more settlers came, the resources were slowly depleted:
The following episode from Grettir s Saga is likely to have been typical: as soon as Eirik knew
that Onund had arrived he offered to give him anything he wanted, and added that there was not
much land still unclaimed. Onund said he would like first to see what land was available. So
they went south across the fjords, and when they reached Ofaera, Eirik said, Now you can have
a look at it. From here on the land is unclaimed up to Bjorn s settlement. (Gary Martin, p.2).
Clearly this famine was a historical, recorded event since there are also reports of a shortage of
foodstuffs in Njal s Saga. This was a time of great famine in Iceland, and all over the country people
were going short of hay and food (Njal s Saga, Ch. 47). So it is clear that Njal s Saga includes
some factual information, yet still remains a fictional narrative.
Instead of creating a form of law enforcement, the Icelanders usually took matters into their own
hands. This is can be seen in the many killings that occur in Njal s Saga. The Icelandic people had
developed a feud system,

Causes Of Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin was a Marxian idealist who devoted the majority of his adult life to bringing
about a Socialist state in Russia. His years committed to the cause would culminate in the
October Revolution of 1917, during which the Lenin led Bolshevik party would seize upon a
weakened political regime and institute themselves as the ruling authority of Russia. With Lenin
leading the Bolshevik party, eager to usher in the doctrine he had faithfully subscribed to and
expounded upon for decades, his dream of a Russian Socialist state was now a humbling yet
exciting reality. How, then, did such a Marxian purist fall well short of the utopian vision
promised by his political ideology? Lenin s inability to successfully implement the policies which
would bring about the ever elusive socialist utopia can be directly attributed to a variety of factors
stemming from three root causes. The first, and most damning, predictor of imminent failure was
that, though Russia was ripe for revolution at the time of the Bolshevik takeover, the economy of
Russia was not yet ripe for the implementation of Socialist ideals and practices. The second and
third root causes of Lenin s ultimate failure are byproducts of the issues that arose from the initial
root cause just stated. Due to the impracticality of full scale implementation of Socialist policies in
Russia at the time, Lenin made the reprehensible, though practical, choice to utilize dictatorial
tactics of repression and force, often by way of

Lakeland High School FBLA Case Study
From the Big Apple to the Wind City Lakeland High School FBLA traveled the 815 miles to
attend the National Leadership Conference in Chicago Illinois. The National Leadership
Conference is the biggest and most anticipated conference of the year and is also where members
of FBLA have the opportunity to see who is the best of the best by competing in competitions that
they qualified for at the State LeadershipConference. This year Lakeland High SchoolFBLA had
seven competitors competing in Future Business Leader, Parliamentary Procedure Team, Job
Interview, Banking and Financial System and Help Desk. All our competitors spend a lot of hard
work and dedication studying for their competitions unfortunately however our competitors fell
short this year of getting on stage. Even though none of them placed at Nationals, Lakeland High
School is proud of them making it as far as they did and the hard work they put into their
competitions. In spite of that this year Lakeland High School had a lot to celebrate at the conference.

The Issue Of Abortion Laws
Denise Magana
ENG 102
Professor Brussin
2 October 2014
Abortion Laws are Unconstitutional The issue of abortion has always been rising throughout the
years. Is it power to the fetus or to the women? The famous Roe v. Wade trial, which was supposed
to settle the idea and was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court that was
supposed to decide the issue of abortion. It was ruled in 1973, that the right to privacy under the due
process clause of the 14th Amendment, extended to a woman s decision to have an abortion, but
that the right to privacy must be balanced between the woman s and the state s interests in
regulating abortions: which is to protect prenatal life and protecting the woman s health. Roe v.
Wade reshaped the nation s politics and divided the country into pro choice and pro life sides,
while at the same time, it also created hostile states toward abortion clinics and creates the challenge
of getting an abortion more difficult. Everyone has an opinion on abortion, whether or not they
want to voice it. Some people think it s immoral to kill a fetus, something that could potentially
gestate into a living, human being. Some people think that it is entirely up to the woman. And
others think that it s none of their business. Ever since Roe v. Wade, many states have been trying
to create a more difficult aversions to abortions in many ways. Some states tried to make it harder
by payment, such as restricting certain insurance payments. Other states

What Was The Impact Of The Magna Carta
As a result of civil unrest, the Magna Carta of 1215 not only documented the liberties held by free
men but it was also the first document to enforce law upon the sovereign. Written in Latin and not
in the best condition, the Magna Carta (or Great Charter) has succeeded to remain relevant to the
cause of human rights today, eight centuries after it was scrawled onto sheep skin and affirmed
with the sticky wax seal of the King John. Throughout this essay I will analysing the document and
exploring the effects it had on society.
The Magna Carta was a turning point in history, with the initiation of human rights, one of
legislations that was most significant was clause 39, No free man shall be arrested or imprisoned
... except by lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land. This deemed that
imprisonment should not occur without a legal process, this reshaped the legal process and
provoked the notion of trial by jury. Which effectively established the principle of the rule of law
and protecting individuals from arbitrary punishment. In theory, this would of course have created a
justice system, however the term free man has its limitations as it only referred to the minority of
the population of England at the time. Many of the people were unfree peasants known as villeins ,
who could only pursue justice through the courts of their own lords. This implies that that King
John hoped the Charter would become no more than a toothless symbol of his generosity to the

Theme Of Nature In The Red Pony
Ye Yang Zhang

Final Paper #6
Discuss Steinbeck s theme of nature and man s place in it in the Red Pony. Use specific quotes
/examples from the story to indicate the points the author is making.
Nature In the Red Pony
Nature ignores human desire. The Red Pony is a short novel that consists four stories of a family
living on a western American ranch. In the book, the central theme is the cycle of life and death.
All four stories center on the phenomenon of nature. The principal issue of The Red Pony is the
exploration of man s complicated relationship with nature. It is presented through Jody s
maturation. For Steinbeck, all life, including human, is bound together. Even though people can
occasionally make decisions and change the circumstances, nature, indeed, is the leader of the
whole novel and the world.
The Red Pony is filled with descriptions of natural phenomena weather, animals, and plants
reflecting events in the story. At the beginning of the Gift, Steinbeck emphasizes at daybreak Billy
Buck emerged from the bunkhouse, which shows that people wake up to work when the sun rises
and goes off to rest when the run draws. This indicates that nature controls human. As the story
flows, Steinbeck introduces the environment in the ranch as The Crow ... Show more content on

beast. And I was the head. It was westering and westering. Every man wanted something for
himself, but the big beast that was all of them wanted only westering. Jody finally learns that it is

  • 3. The Bible Passage Judges Chapter Fourteen I have selected the Bible passage Judges Chapter Fourteen verses One Twenty and have analyzed and interpreted this specific passage by using the King James Version Study Bible. I have also read the article, A Black Feminist Approach to Biblical Studies by Wilda Gafney, which also interprets and analyzes this specific Biblepassage. After interpreting this passage myself and then reading Gafney s work, I can see that we had both seen the story pretty similarly except for that she noticed some specific details in the passage that failed to catch my attention. Her points are strong and compelling but is she looking too deeply into the story? The Book of Judges is thought to be possibly written by Samuel and the purpose of this book is stated to be, to show that God s judgement against sin is certain, and his forgiveness of sin and restoration to relationship are just as certain for those who repent (KJV Study Bible). Judges Chapter Fourteen verses One Twenty is specifically the story of Samson s Feast and Riddle. The author of this passage (thought to be Samuel) is saying that you should not use God s blessings for selfish purposes. It is a special gift for God to give you these strengths and abilities and to use them selfishly is robbing God, the church, and his fellow believers (KJV Study Bible). As you use the gifts God has given you, you should be sure that you are helping others as God would want you too, not just yourself. This specific Bible passage tells the story ... What is valuable to NASA is that there is free flow of communication among its employees who are receptive to ideas due to the logic of any proposed outcome. The group of administrators led by Dr. Loyal downplayed the technical considerations and believed launch should proceed. It got support from smaller groups involved in the lobbying efforts who naturally would like the launch to proceed as scheduled (confirming evidence trap). Getting the support was a selfish move since the outcome would definitely be in Dr. Loyal s favor. The internal goals of each group should have been considered in the decision. • 10. Perception And Perception Of A Human Mind This topic is specifically interesting because I want to do a research on how human mind perceives things as it happens, and the kinds of role that perceptions play in human mind. Perception of things cannot be true at all the time. It might be illusional. Perception of a certain element/event of life is a natural cause. It is an instantaneous action inside the brain s functional parts. Consequently, it gives awareness or consciousness to the mind. The topic is specifically relevant today because perception is a natural cause, it cannot be evaluated to its full potential. There are always flaw in decoding perception of a human mind. The significance of this topic is to inform people about direct and indirect form of perception. Visual perception is a learning process which can be modified at particular instant of time. Some of perspectives to support the essay is to inquire how does human perceive information with development of mind via multi sensory perception, self awareness/consciousness, and indirect perception. Most of the perspective will concern about the effect of mind perception on particular age group; infant, child, adult and elder. There will be a detail research on how does the development of mind with an age can affect our reasoning and perception. Human beings perceive/drive meaning through senses, ears, eyes and touch. Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which is producing tiny fuel cell boxes called Bloom Boxes. Two of these can power an average U.S. home. Joe, has managed to become the only human to survive the apocalypse, and now lives the rest of his days by himself. Eventually and inevitably, Joe becomes bored, and in his post apocalyptic boredom, he decides to go on a quest to kill all animals and plants left on earth. On the basis of Kantian ethics, Joe killing all livings things on Earth is morally correct. The first reason this is considered right is because Kantian ethics follows the Principle of Humanity. The Principle of Humanity states:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Land Ethic states that an action is right if it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community (leopold 6). The biotic community includes soils, waters, plants, and animals (Leopold 2) . When the Land Ethic is applied to Joe s action of killing all plants and animals, he is committing a huge violation because he is not maintaining the balance and beauty of the land, instead he is doing the exact opposite and destroying it by killing all living things. He is also ignoring the holistic principle of the Land Ethic meaning that humans are a members of the biotic community, not rulers (Leopold 2). When Joe decided to kill all living plants and animals, he made his choice not as an equal member of the biotic, but as a superior being. He also broke the Second Second Order Principle. The Second Second Order Principle says that stronger interests take priority over weaker interests (Callicott 86). Stronger interests include things needed for basic survival while weaker interests include less important needs or wants (Callicott 87). In Joe s case, the plants and animals will to survive would be more important than his lack of entertainment. Because of this, Joe broke the Second Second Order Principle, and therefore violated the Land Ethic again. With this being said, according to the Land Ethic Joe was wrong, both when he decided that he was above the rest of the biotic community, that fixing his boredom was more important than the lives of all living organisms, and when ruined the stability, integrity, and beauty of the land by killing all living plants and ... Five Guys Burgers and Fries Five Guys Burgers and Fries: Ingredients for Success Dr. Etido Apkan BUS 508: Contemporary Business July 22, 2012 In 1986 when the two oldest sons of Jerry and Janie Murrell decided not to attend college, they made a decision that ultimately changed their family s lives forever. As supportive parents, the Murrell s used the money intended for their tuition to open a hamburger take out shop in Arlington, Virginia to keep the boys close to home and employed (Boone and Kurtz, 2012, p. 78). The restaurant was named Five Guys and a Burger, after their family of five sons. An oligopoly is a market situation in which relatively few sellers [like Burger King, McDonald s] compete and high start up costs form barriers to keep out new competitors [like Five Guys Burgers and Fries] (Boone and Kurtz, 2012, p. 80). Within this competitive fast food burger industry, the main product being offered is a hamburger. However, one of Five Guys unique features compared to Burger King and McDonald s is to only offer fresh, never frozen, eighty percent lean meat burgers that are made to order. Many of the traditional fast food burger restaurants, only offer frozen patties cooked in advanced, and stored under heated lamp until ordered by the customers. They also offer the customers seventeen free toppings for their burgers. Additionally, they use the same kind of bun for the burgers; as well as the original baker. Subsequently, Five Guys does not sell dehydrated French Fries unlike its competitors. Their potatoes are slowly grown in Northern Idaho, where the weather conditions are quite favorable for growing solid and tasty potatoes. Many of the competitors reduce their costs by purchasing potatoes from California or Florida, where they are grown fast and are a lot cheaper. Five Guys guarantees freshness by cutting the potatoes every morning while leaving slivers of skin on. Ethical and Social Practices of Five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Civil War Visual Analysis The painting was very thought provoking and sprouted many ideas in my head, however, their was one idea that stood out more than the others. I listed the thoughts below in the bullet points. The color scheme of this painting was very chaotic. The outside areas were vibrants shades of yellow, green, and some blue. The inner center section of the paintingwas dark red with a big blotch of black covering it. Other students took the hidden shades of colors to stand for the bravery that most citizens stereotype war with. However, in reality their is only blood stains that cover everything and war is just an act of foolishness. From my point of view, the outside colors stood for the different viewpoints that each individual brings to the war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So if you look at the painting in this perspective, you can hypothesize that the red and green viewpoints have collided making the big black blotch in the center. So it is concludes that when these varying viewpoints collided you create a massive surge of chaos and bloodshed. The other thing interesting about the painting was the setting of the picture. Unlike most paintings this one was set inside a frame that resembled a barrier. This was very creative and gave the viewer the sense that all these soldiers are trapped in this vortex of unending bloodshed. Their was a part of the canvas that seemed to run out of the boundaries of the frame. It was interesting how the blue line leading away from the scene closely resembled a river. It felt as if many of the soldier may have tried to escape from this gruesome setting by flowing out of the picture and maybe forgetting all the memories. However, the experience war gives is rarely forgotten and this clearly noticeable in the picture because the river does not end up leaving the frame but comes to a standstill or ... Her brother and husband, John are both highly respected doctors that believe Congenial work, with excitement and change, would only worsen her case. But in spite of them, she writes anyway making sure not to be seen. Gilman s character is a little more manic than Kaysen because she is locked up in her own house alone for the majority of her time. She is unable to leave without permission or write ever. In this aspect, I feel that being passive aggressive is a positive characteristic because it allows Gilman to fool her husband into believing she is improving. When in actuality, she s not and she may be going crazy being cooped up in the house all the time. However it is a negative because unlike Kaysen, she acts on her impulses without thinking them through. She doesn t take into consideration what the consequences of her actions may be. • 25. Thomas Paine And The Age Of Revolution Benjamin Franklin once said, Where liberty dwells, there is my country . What did he mean by this statement? It s a way of saying that where he lives, America, there is liberty. To claim the location of liberty to be one s country, is to say that the location of one s loyalty is dependent on the location of liberty. The location of liberty was crucial to Franklin, to colonists. In the Colonial Period, colonists arrived from Europe in search for religious freedom, land, and the chance for wealth. But even so, Europe governed newcomers; this resulted in anger and rebellion. A period in early American history that occurred in the creation of a new, independent nation. This then extended to another important time in history, a time in which the first pamphlet to advocate American independence was published and seen. Thomas Paine helped shape the ideas of the Age of Revolution. He outlined ideas of the superiority of the monarchial system, the equality of right s among citizens, and of the significance of the American Revolution. He was a man that fought for freedom, fought for independence. Paine transformed the struggle over the rights of English people into a contest with meaning for people everywhere (History). The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets and the existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures experienced by token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of West Point exacerbate female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in an effort to be accepted by the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between tokenism and female relational aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze their experience as tokens and their experience with relational aggression. I will then draw from these surveys to see if any connections exist between the two areas. Tokenism In Rosabeth Moss Kanter s Men and Women of the Corporation, she lays out the theoretical framework of tokenism through the evaluation of Industrial Supply Corporation, Indsco. In this corporation, women held less than 10% of the salaried positions and no women were at the level reporting to officers (Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a phenomenon that occurs in organizations where groups of people are skewed in such a way that there is a large preponderance of one type over another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Those who make up the numerical majority of the group are labeled as the dominants and those who make up the minority are labeled as tokens. Kanter indicates that they are labeled as such because ... In the Milgram experiment, there was an authoritative figure giving commands to the participants. Therefore, in order to resist, using indirect means of noncompliance would be a more useful tactic. In addition, there are many different resistance techniques and out of all of them I believe purposeful procrastination would have been the most suitable. Thanks to its expertise, Longchamp is distributed in more than 275 stores worldwide. We would like to expand our production; therefore we chose to open a new factory in Romania. In this report, we will explain the reasons why we made this decision. 1)Tax costs Regarding tax costs, Romania is as a highly taxed country, just like France. Indeed, income and capital gains earned by corporation are taxed at a rate of 16%. More specifically, these data clearly demonstrate that Romania has payments percentage and profit taxes higher than France. Even if Romania is more taxed than France regarding corporate and income taxes, it is the opposite scheme for labor taxes and contributions. This inversion is due to low labor costs. Certainly high tax costs can be a constraint to produce in this country but we choose Romania for other reasons like the low labor cost and the proximity with our primary market, France. 2) Legal environment Thanks to the accession to the EU and the increasing integration in European markets, Romania s structural reform has progressed. A common pastime on Icelandic farms, from the 12th century down to modern times, was the reading aloud of stories to entertain the household, known as sagnaskemmtun ( saga entertainment ). It seems to have replaced the traditional art of storytelling (Hermann Palsson, pg. 1). Njal s Saga uses Old Icelandic writing convention and historical data to give a fictional account of a generation s lifestyle and struggles. An emphasis on dairy cattle and sheep meant that lamb and beef and dairy products such as cheese and whey were relatively plentiful, especially following good seasons (Gary Martin, pg. 2) Despite the abundance of food, as more settlers came, the resources were slowly depleted: The following episode from Grettir s Saga is likely to have been typical: as soon as Eirik knew that Onund had arrived he offered to give him anything he wanted, and added that there was not much land still unclaimed. Onund said he would like first to see what land was available. So they went south across the fjords, and when they reached Ofaera, Eirik said, Now you can have a look at it. • 40. Causes Of Vladimir Lenin Vladimir Lenin was a Marxian idealist who devoted the majority of his adult life to bringing about a Socialist state in Russia. His years committed to the cause would culminate in the October Revolution of 1917, during which the Lenin led Bolshevik party would seize upon a weakened political regime and institute themselves as the ruling authority of Russia. With Lenin leading the Bolshevik party, eager to usher in the doctrine he had faithfully subscribed to and expounded upon for decades, his dream of a Russian Socialist state was now a humbling yet exciting reality. How, then, did such a Marxian purist fall well short of the utopian vision promised by his political ideology? Lenin s inability to successfully implement the policies which would bring about the ever elusive socialist utopia can be directly attributed to a variety of factors stemming from three root causes. The first, and most damning, predictor of imminent failure was that, though Russia was ripe for revolution at the time of the Bolshevik takeover, the economy of Russia was not yet ripe for the implementation of Socialist ideals and practices. The second and third root causes of Lenin s ultimate failure are byproducts of the issues that arose from the initial root cause just stated. Is it power to the fetus or to the women? The famous Roe v. Wade trial, which was supposed to settle the idea and was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court that was supposed to decide the issue of abortion. It was ruled in 1973, that the right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment, extended to a woman s decision to have an abortion, but that the right to privacy must be balanced between the woman s and the state s interests in regulating abortions: which is to protect prenatal life and protecting the woman s health. Roe v. Wade reshaped the nation s politics and divided the country into pro choice and pro life sides, while at the same time, it also created hostile states toward abortion clinics and creates the challenge of getting an abortion more difficult. Everyone has an opinion on abortion, whether or not they want to voice it. Some people think it s immoral to kill a fetus, something that could potentially gestate into a living, human being. Some people think that it is entirely up to the woman. And others think that it s none of their business. Ever since Roe v. What Was The Impact Of The Magna Carta As a result of civil unrest, the Magna Carta of 1215 not only documented the liberties held by free men but it was also the first document to enforce law upon the sovereign. Written in Latin and not in the best condition, the Magna Carta (or Great Charter) has succeeded to remain relevant to the cause of human rights today, eight centuries after it was scrawled onto sheep skin and affirmed with the sticky wax seal of the King John. Throughout this essay I will analysing the document and exploring the effects it had on society. The Magna Carta was a turning point in history, with the initiation of human rights, one of legislations that was most significant was clause 39, No free man shall be arrested or imprisoned ... except by lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land. This deemed that imprisonment should not occur without a legal process, this reshaped the legal process and provoked the notion of trial by jury. Which effectively established the principle of the rule of law and protecting individuals from arbitrary punishment. In theory, this would of course have created a justice system, however the term free man has its limitations as it only referred to the minority of the population of England at the time. Many of the people were unfree peasants known as villeins , who could only pursue justice through the courts of their own lords. This implies that that King John hoped the Charter would become no more than a toothless symbol of his generosity to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
