Why Is David Important In The Renaissance
In the renaissance there were many famous artists and masterpieces. One of the most famous
works of art is known as the statue of David, sculpted by Michelangelo. The statue of David is one
of the greatest works of art from the high renaissance for so many reasons, including the fact that it
is one of Michelangelos most well known works of art. Michelangelo was one of the greatest artists
from the high renaissance, along with many others. He created many masterpieces in his time and
the statue of David may only be one of them but it is considerably the best.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buanarroti Simoni was an Italian born sculptor, painter, architect, poet
and engineer. He was born on March 6 1475 in Caprese, Italy and died February 18 1564 in Rome,
Italy. His most famous works of art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a 17 ft marble statue representing the Biblical hero David. The statue was publicly unveiled
on September 8 1504, it was originally meant to be placed on the roof of Florence s Cathedral
Duomo but that became something they weren t able to do because of its size and mass. The
original location the statue was placed was in the public square outside the Palazzo della
Signoria. However, in 1873 it was moved to the Galleria dell Academia and in 1910 it was
replaced by a replica in the public square. Once the statue was unveiled it quickly became a
symbol of defense of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence. In 1499 Michelangelo
was asked by the consuls of the Guild of Wool to complete an unfinished project started 40 years
earlier. The project was started by Agostino di Duccio to create a colossal statue of David as a
symbol of Florentine freedom, and the project was eventually given to Michelangelo to complete.
Luckily Michelangelo was the one chosen to complete the project or the amazing statue that we all

Early Church Writings
I found the early Church writings interesting, because it gave me a clearer understanding of the
lattice weaving between the scriptures, catechetical manuals, witness statements, and liturgical
guides working together supporting each other within the Catholic Church. After the fall of
Jerusalem 70AD, the Holy Spiritwas obviously present for the Jewish rabbis to meet and agree on
what Old Testament books would be considered Sacred Scripture: The Law, or Torah is the first
five books of the Bible, the historical books, the Prophets, and the Writings. Because by the second
century the Church found itself being challenged by Marcion own interpretation of Godgoes against
the dogma of the Church therefore, twenty seven New Testament biblical books... Show more

Origen also taught three ways of interpreting Scripture; the literal (referring to the intention of the
author), the moral (our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, we should not desecrate our temple
with bad habits) and the allegorical, (eternal significance, the Church is leading us to Heaven).
1777 years later the Vatican II gave three very similar guidelines for interpreting the Bible: 1.
attention to the content and unity of the whole Scripture 2. adherence to the Church s Tradition 3.
mindfulness of the analogy of Faith. The analogy of Faith means the harmony or coherence of the
truths of Faith relative to one another and within the whole plan of Revelation. (CCC 112 114)
Presently the modern Church does offer a bible that has good footnotes, pictures, maps, and clear
explanation of scripture, more importantly to combat heresy; we must read the bible with a sense of
Tradition, from what the original author means to say, not what I think the reading means. Sadly,
our Protestant siblings have turned away from these sacred

Use Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter
Q.1 The meaning of irony is the expression by using language that usually means the opposite of
the meaning or what is being said which is said to be dark humour. Lamb to the Slaughter by
Roald Dahl uses irony when Patrick is hit on the back of the head by a frozen leg of lamb. It is
also ironic when the detectives were talking about how finding the weapon would help find the
suspect when they were actually eating the weapon. This technique is used by the author in order
to add more detail in the story and make it sound more ironic and interesting. This technique makes
the story more interesting and mocking so that the reader is more engaged? Q.2 A Daughter s

Normalization Is A Process Of A Composite Primary Key For...
Normalization is a process in the database design process which is done to ensure that the right
data is in the right table. It helps to overcome the update problems. There are various forms of
normalization namely 1NF, 2NF, 3NF, 4NF and 5NF. Another type of normalization is BCNF.
1NF ensures that there are no multi valued attributes in any table. 2NF is used to eliminate any
partial dependencies and ensure that all non key columns depend on the entire primary key. I
have used an auto incremental system assigned key to serve as a primary key for all the tables.
Hence the primary key can be modified if it is entered incorrectly or needs to be changed. This also
helps to uniquely identify each row in all the tables and avoids the use of a... Show more content on

In the department table, department id being the primary key needs to be unique, but a
department could have more than one product. Hence I gave a system assigned primary key to
the department table. Now, it leads to transitive dependencies as department name was
determined by department id and did not depend on the primary key. Hence to bring the table to
3NF I made a separate department table and added a junction table to link product and
department. (3) The employee table had a start and end date. This did not cater to the face that
multiple employs could have the same start and end date and also an employee could resign and
join again. Also, the salary could change depending on his tenure. To address this and get the
table to 1NF, I made a separate entity for employee tenure making employee id as the foreign
key linking the employee table. (4) The order table had a primary key order id and columns for
state and tax. The tax was dependent on non key column state and hence the table violated 3NF.
Hence I separated the state and tax columns in a separate column and linked it to the orders table.
(5) The order table initially was designed to include billing. With the provision of a bill to be
cleared in multiple transactions the billing could have multiple values and hence was made a
separate entity to bring it to 1NF. The new billing table also has various columns for billing date,

Anterograde Amnesia Case Study
Amnesia is common recognized psychological problem in daily life and according to Talmi,
Caplan, Richards, and Moscovitch (2015), amnesia is usually thought as abilities loss in long term
memory regardless of intact of short term memory. In other words, some people suffer from the
amnesia related with the impairment of short term memoryand the others suffer from the amnesia
related with the impairment of long term memory. Those amnesias can happen not only by
physical wound, but also psychological trauma. For example, A 34 year old man without past
history of any psychiatric or neurological disorder developed severe anterograde amnesia
following a psychological trauma (KUMAR, RAO, SUNNY, GANGADHAR, 2007). When it
comes to sorts of amnesias,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mental illness has a distinct point. The distinct point of anterograde amnesia is that it is
possible to list memories that the patients can remember based on a specific point in time. In other
words, only memory that had been acquired before hippocampus was damaged is remained.
Leonarde cannot remember the memory formed after his head is hit by robber. Every acquirable
memory in everyday life is not applicable to him. He cannot remember all about incidents
because memories formed just a few minutes before is cut off and get out of from his brain.
Therefore, he doesn t have any cause and effect thought process in recent incident and has absent
recognition of time and space. This is because his head is no longer working for memories
preservation. In regard to cause of anterograde amnesia, the reason of anterograde amnesia is due
to problem in hippocampal system and that evidence can be found in many psychological journals.
Saunder (1997) maintained that most of reasons in anterograde amnesia are due to damaged
hippocampus system and damage in hippocampal system can cause loses of episodic information.
AKYILDIZ et al. (2015) also mentioned that there is intensity variation in hippocampus, when
patient cannot accumulate new, recent memory. That is, the cause of anterograde amnesia
correlate with the impairment of hippocampal system. Those impairments can occur in various
reason: physical impact, psychological shock, overdose of drug, and so on. Anterograde amnesia
influences gives fatal influence in patient s lifestyle for lifelong. However, Duff et al. (2008)
provided one case of one woman named Angie, and she showed improvement of mental process
and perception ability. Her special case is give possibility to the patients of anterograde amnesia:

Frankenstein Essay
Mr. Pomakov
ENG 2D1 03
October 26th, 2015 In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, we discover that the search for now
knowledge has a good and a bad side. Suffering is something we all go through at some point. We
try to avoid it but our search for knowledge will always lead to suffering. In Frankenstein Victor had
set out on a search for knowledge, he was relentless. His search consumed all his time, destroyed
relationships, and lead to the death of not only himself but his friends and family. All of those
negative effects originated from the monster Victor had created on his search for knowledge.
Although Victor may have achieved his end goal, at what cost did this come to? Victor s search...

The monster is the product of Victor s search for knowledge, and the same thing that cause all the
havoc in the story. One of the largest examples of Victor s suffering was how fear and anger had
consumed him. All the monster has brought upon the world is destruction and fear; these are all
due to Victor s relentless search for knowledge. This daemon surpasses the body limits humans
have in almost every aspect and thus constitutes everything Victor had hoped to achieve with his
alchemical knowledge. (Kokotz 14) the author of this essay refers to the monster as daemon , the
quote talks about how Victor wished this upon the monster. He wished to create a being that could
bypass the limits humans are bound by. This quote shows significance because all these traits the

from waking up and reacting. If blood evidence was found it would the whole object would be
let to dry then packaged in a paper bag, and the paper bag slapped with an evidence tag and filled

they were taking the stuffed animals. If any were found they would also be photographed scaled

Scapegoats In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies Essay The use of scapegoats impacts our society to large extent because it
impacts many of our set ideals placed in American society today. Although there are different
sides of scapegoating, the one that falls into the parameters of prejudices in today s society.
Many innocent victims fall to the idea of scapegoating, by trying to avoid punishment. For
example: Are all Anglos, Republican? Are all Muslims, terrorists? Are all African Americans and
Hispanics in gangs? Are all minorities on welfare? Are all Italians in the Mafia? Are all Hispanics

cases profiling. Scapegoating is an act in which a person unfairly blames someone... Show more

The word scapegoat is described in the Bible s Book of Leviticus. The passage goes something
like this: On the Day of Atonement a live goat was chosen by lot. The high priest, robed in linen
garments, laid both his hands on the goat s head, and confessed over it the iniquities of the
children of Israel. The sins of the people thus symbolically transferred to the beast, it was taken
out into the wilderness and let go. The people felt purged, and for the time being, guiltless. Since
the biblical times the term/word scapegoat has changed to refer to individuals or people who are
made to suffer the problems and faults of others. Scapegoating seems to be a psychological act,
in which it allows the perpetrator to eliminate negative feelings about him or himself and provides
a sense of relief. There have been many incidents of scapegoating in the past year itself. One of the
most used scapegoats would be God , Conversely, God is also a convenient scapegoat. According to
people s logic, if God is so perfect, why does he allow bad things to happens to people who serve
him? In fact as many as в…” of americans surveyed have blamed god for their

Characterization For Disdemona And Desdemona By William...
Women are often held to different standards than men and an ideal woman is hard to describe,
even harder to find. This paper will explore the views and expectations of how woman are
portrayed in the sixteenth century. In Cinthio s, The Unfaithfulness of Husbands and Wives, Story
Seven, an ideal woman was said to be faithful and a faithful woman would rather commit suicide
than to commit adultery (Cinthio 32), while in Shakespeare s Othello, an ideal woman is said to
breastfeed and inquire about useless matters (2.1.159). Cinthio s and Shakespeare s use of
characterization for Disdemona and Desdemona, respectively, demonstrates that the wives of men
in the sixteenth century were to be gentle servants. Cinthio focuses more on the common
stereotypes about women, while Shakespeare challenges them.
In both text, the women are developed indirectly through their actions and how others view
them. In Cinthio s text, women are advised to stay home and take care of their household; they
are to marry who their parents approve of and are to be submissive and obedient at all times.
Disdemona went against all of these notions. She was deeply in love with the Moor, but she did
not fit the criteria of an ideal woman. Disdemona, for fear that she d be apart from the Moor,
wanted to go to war with him, she married the Moor despite her parent s approval, and she spoke
out of turn toward her husband for the defense of someone else, the Corporal. In the end
Disdemona advises marrying a partner

Alfred Hitchcock s Elements Of Suspense In Psychodo

Final Paper
Alfred Hitchcock was a renowned film director known for his elements of suspense and
psychological thrillers. His most popular work psycho uses the story of a phoenix secretary
(Marion Crane) who embezzled money from a client to unveil the psycho in the male character
(Norman Bates). The success of the film is greatly relied on Hitchcock s unique techniques in
creating tension and suspense. Elements that contributed to the success of the film include motifs
and parallels, and perspective used.
The most prominent motifs in psycho are birds, eyes and mirrors. Hitchcock uses birds to support
the theme of duality in the film. In one critical scene where Norman ... Show more content on

These instances lead to eyes taking significance in the film, and implicates the audience on the
note that the film is showing what should not be seen. Unlike Norman s other victims that were
not detailed, Mrs. Bates and Marion s eyes depict a watchful one that threatens Norman therefore
leading to their deaths. Mirrors were also used throughout the film to enhance the theme of
duality. After Marion stole the money, Hitchcock recurrently compares her with her reflection
(like in the used car lot), even though she rarely looks at it. Marion s refusal to look at own
reflection in the mirror underscores that she is going to keep going in the path that she has chosen
and not look back. Marion s denial of her reflection led her to the Bates Motel where she met with
her death.
The shift in narration of Psycho has been a topic worth discussing in the world of film making.
Most films employ a system of restricted narration, which conveys external events as well as the
knowledge, thoughts and feelings of one or two major characters without the intervention of an
explicit narrator. But there is a significant shift of narration from restricted to omniscient that
Hitchcock used to keep the audience engaged with the film. The early scenes and exposition of the
film is focused on Marion. The audience see things from the perspective of Marion her theft, her
relationships as an employee and as a woman. Different point of view shots highlights that the film
is focused on Marion s

Popsile Constraints
Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which
included 12 popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the
container had to fit the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of
water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we
wanted to do and soon we decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes
sense. Before building the container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from
bottom to top. So we started off with the base, but before we did that we had to make the
dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10 cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and
it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the materials, but we had to cut or bend them.
We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index cards at the 10 cm mark that we made
with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more
popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped the sides of the base and
started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards to the base and
taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. We place the bag inside and called it

Social Class Structure In America
The social class structure in America is generally divided into mainly three strata: The rich
constituting the upper class, the moderately affluent category comprising the middle class, and
financially and socially backward people who form the lower class. There are also superimposing
areas like the upper middle classand the lower upper class. The stratification is based on the social
as well as economic environments. Although these classifications and entry to these statuses are not
fixed, these three classifications give an overall perceptive of the social classification in the United
Statesof America. (study.com)
People who are deemed to be part of the rich upper class constitute the owners of manufacturing
units and they handle most of the country s private wealth by virtue of their enterprising nature.
They keep on increasing their wealth using the funds that are already available with them. Many
people in this category are key government personals, hefty entrepreneurs, or chief executives of
organizations. They manage an enormous amount of wealth and have control over the national
economy. They work on the principle that income is the earning or similar revenue that is

During the last several years America witnessed a scenario in which the volume of the rich is
drastically increasing. This happened at the cost of a breakdown in the volume of middle class
and an increase in the volume of the poor. The most commonly used tool for measuring social
inequality is the Gini coefficient. This is a scientific approach to finding the spread of wealth in a
given geography. If the Gini coefficient is zero, it is a clear signal of perfect equality. If the Gini
coefficient is one, it shows that the wealth in that area is not properly distributed. Studies show that
America has much to improve in terms of Gini coefficient.

The Puritanical Bans Introduced By The Almohads
In addition to the puritanical bans introduced by the Almohads, the movement also subjected the
dhimmi population to violence. Going further than the Almoravids, the Almohads were responsible
for massacres and forced conversions of Jews and Christians alike, driving them into Christian
Iberia. By 1200, the indigenous Christian inhabitants of al Andalushad, for the most part, been
forcibly converted or rooted out. The only Christians left in the area were prisoners of war,
mercenaries, and merchants. To emphasize the severity of the treatment of the dhimmis by the
Almohad rulers, in 1224, an Almohad chronicler, al Marrakushi, made the claim that, No pact of
protection has been signed between us and the Jews or the Christians since the rise of Almohad
power. It was not only the Christians who were persecuted by the Almohad movement, as Jews
were also the object of abject discrimination. In addition to his previous statement, al Marrakushi
also noted that In all the regions of the west there are no synagogues or churches. The Almohads
under Caliph Yaqub (1194 1199) became increasingly paranoid about crypto Judaism in Jewish
families which had converted to Islam. Such was his paranoia and contempt for these families that

Megacity And Megacity
There is no doubt that the world population is growing and growing rapidly but in order for the
world to hold the mass change there is a need for humanity to adapt. According to the UN
(United Nations) more than half of humanity today 3.9 billion people in 2014, today over 4
billion lives in urban areas (UN 2014, p. 1).This is a profound shift in the course of one century,
or within a single lifetime for some of the longer lived people. Not only is the world s urban
populationrapidly increasing, but cities themselves are growing larger and larger, with the number
of megacities (population at least 10 million) almost tripling from 10 in 1990 to 28 in 2014 (UN
2014, p. 13). To first understand how such mega urbanity affects humanity one first needs to
understand what a Megacityis. Once one understands this concept they will be able to indicate what
the development of cities and our urban past have to say for urban future, understand the concept of
a cityand its history, be able to explain the urban way of life associated with cities and finally be
able to assess the challenges and changes that cities and urban life face in modern day. Megacities
are for the most part a very modern concept, they are best described as any city that holds 10
million residents or more. Some examples of modern day mega cities are Shanghai, Paris and
London. A city typically defined as a large settlement of humans which holds extensive systems for

The Importance Of Technology On Social Communication
Technology has had a massive influence on earth, and social communicating, notably since newest
advances in technology have now been demonstrated. It s led in forming the way that individuals
communicate with each other. It s a debatable issue on perhaps the advances in tech has shifted
interpersonal communicationfor the better or, the worse. It s caused changes to the world that
empowers us to complete things time economically and efficiently. The more heightened
technology has become its enabled information to travel faster, it features an enormous effect on the
current generation, particularly with the latest obsession that people have with social networking.
Social media permits visitors to contact people they know, people they don t understand, and

Social media has most influenced the character of social communication, that is a result of how it

The Rise Of The Railroad System
At the start of every great advancement in society it is society itself that fails to realize the negative
repercussions the advancement might bring. While the rise of the railroad system through Texas
gave plenty of beneficial attributes, from faster transportation of goods and services to expansion of
Texan towns, which helped boom our population, it would seem that a number of things would be
drawbacks leading to the termination of many Texan ideologies. The railroad system stemmed

people from different ends of the country came seeking new life others came seeking new fortune
which lead to the demise of cowboys, instillation of cattle drives, and the Postbellum cattle boom.
In order to understand the negative attributes that the railroad brought we must go back and bring
our attention to the beginning which includes the original cowboys.
Despite the many riveting TV dramas that paint cowboys as fast men who love faster women
we now know in order to be historically accurate, we would have to trade these Clint Eastwood
fairy tales for less exciting ones of cowboys who were smelly lonely men who had no serious
work skills. These men would consist of workers who were generally under the age of twenty that
made 30 40$ a month. During this time period they would walk with and behind cattle for up to six

Kingsolver values interdependence the most as shown through her characters Taylor, Turtle, and
Lou Ann; these characters all try for independence or dependence before realizing that
interdependence is the right balance of the two. Complete dependence does not work for Lou Ann,
who struggles to know who she is without her husband, or Turtle, who cannot express herself after
becoming an orphan. At the beginning of the novel, Lou Ann says that she and her husband, Angel,

Here, Kingsolver shows that independence is imperfect because if you make a mistake there is
no one there to help you back up. In the end, Kingsolver proves interdependence is the best way
to survive by showing Taylor, Lou Ann, and Turtle as a family; she also uses rhizobia as a
symbol for interdependence at work. When Taylor and Lou Ann first meet, they instantly find a
connection. Taylor helps Lou Ann to become more confident by encouraging her to speak her
mind about how the door to the strip club makes her uncomfortable. Also, she tells Lou Ann to
stop putting herself down and thinking she is not as smart as Taylor or that Angel left because
she got drunk once. In return, Lou Ann helps Taylor by taking care of Turtle and supporting
Taylor as she learns how to be a good mother. Turtle, as a result of feeling loved and safe within
her new family, begins to speak and laugh. In return, Turtle gives Taylor a sense of purpose. The
results of this interdependence are all positive. Lou Ann becomes confident enough to get a job
she loves at a salsa factory, Taylor decides she wants to adopt Turtle, and Turtle is able to put her
past behind her by getting closure with how her mother died in

Hugh Hefner s Playboy
Introduction
Playboy has been a very controversial magazine over the past 50 years but has somehow
managed to become an important brand along with the man who created it, Hugh Hefner. Both
have come to obtain amazing status worldwide and have become symbols or icons in the United
States, Hef as a sexual icon, a ladies man who built the magazine s enterprise on his own and the
magazine has strived and produced interesting, unique and controversial topics for men around the
country. It s interesting to see how today, when magazines have been on the losing end of news
and entertainment it s still striving and has become ever so important in the American life, no
longer a simple magazine, playboy has become something much more and for that reason I have
decide to investigate how is it that a magazine as controversial as Playboy has become a national
icon in the US?
If one was to watch videos and read articles to understand Hugh Heffner s lifestyle, to see the
story behind his success and what lead to the creation of the magazine it would be easy to
understand how it stands out on a world scale. Through all this, people can truly understand what
makes the playboy unique and I have come to appreciate it for ... Show more content on

Why Teens Join Gangs
Many people wonder why teens would think of joining a gang. There are many different of teens
who join and they join for many different reasons; some of them include wanting power or having
status, looking for friendship or a family, peer pressure and wanting money and other materialistic
items.
Some teenagers join gangs because of family involvement. In many situations family members
already in gangs often recruit other family members. If a teenagers family is not in a gang and they
still join they might be seeking a family. Young teens who grow up without family support would
see the gang more like their second family because of all the support and attention they are
receiving that they never had before. Some even get involved with gangs because they are not
getting any attention from parents. Joining a gang provides negative attention; even though it is the
wrong kind of attention, the teens still see it as attention and to some teens any kind of attention is
better than none.
Teenagers would also join for respect. If a kid has low self esteem and don t feel good ... Show more

Many think they are going to become gang famous. Lots of youths join gangs to make fast
money. Young people who are not financially stable yet because of reasons such as struggling to
find a job or trying to help their parents would consider getting into a gang because it is fast and
easy money that can help support themselves and their family. Financially disadvantaged young
people would also rather look for a fast way to earn money. In the gang life they can participate in
things like one drug deal and make enough money to get materialistic items such as clothes and
sneakers than actually having a real job that would take a full months earnings. The appeal of
obtaining money fast can be overwhelming for children and gangs are involved in drugs and other
criminal activities that give children opportunities to get money

similarities and differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There are also many
differences that separate the three major religions of the world. This paper will delve into all
three of them. The major similarities that all three religions share are that they are all
monotheistic. This all means that they believe in one god and that he is the supreme ruler of all
things. They also believe that all things are created equal under one god. They all have books of
what they believe to be God s word. The Jews have their book known as the Torah. The Christian

There are two parts in Jerusalem. There is the New City and the Old City. In the Old city there
are many temples, one of the most important being the Haram esh Sharif, or Venerable
Sanctuary. In the Old City there is also the Christian Church of Holy Sepulchre, which is the
place where they believe Jesus Christ was buried after coming off the Cross. There is also the
Wailing Wall that the Jews go to pray at. The Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque are
there for the Muslim community. Jerusalem is the third holiest site for the Muslim population
behind Mecca and Medina. Other things that the religions all share are that they all have their
sacred places of worship. For the Christians there is the church. For the Jewish people there is
the synagogue and then for the Muslims there is the mosque. They also all have their Sabbath or
day of rest that they take time to go to their holy place of worship. The Jewish Sabbath is on
Saturday while the Christian Sabbath is on Sunday. All three of these religions started off small
and a long time ago. Judaism started a long time before the birth of Jesus Christ. Christianity
started after the birth of Christ but was not really known about or taught until after Jerusalem was
destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. Islam was started later on but still a long time ago. It is
thought to be started in 622 A.D. by a man known as Muhammad. Seeing how many similarities

Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath
Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath
On Maslow s hierarchy of needs, the need for belongingness and love ranks only below the need
for survival, making it one of our most basic needs (Weiten 267). Many people fill this need for
affection by participating in a family unit. However, as the 20th century continues, the emphasis on
family in America is decreasing. Divorce rates, single parent households, and children born out of
wedlock are all increasing. Furthermore, instead of the network of aunts, uncles, grandparents,
cousins, and other relatives that was prevalent in early America, Americans today are more distant
from their extended family. As sociologist David Elkind said in a 1996 interview with... Show more

Today s nuclear family with mom, dad, 2.3 kids, and dog only came into being just after the
Industrial Revolution (Swerdolow 15). This leads to the idea that perhaps the desengration of the
nuclear family isn t necessarily a negative things, but more of a retirement of a one way of life in
favor of a new one. Even if this is true, the current period of decline still spurns numerous problems
and attempted solutions.
The changing family isn t a new issue. Over twenty years ago, Kurt Vonnegut presented the idea
of the artificial family in his book Slapstick. President Wilbur Swain, the central character in the
novel, inacts a plan to bring all people in America together by giving them artificial families
based on randomly assigned middle names; the program reaps both positive and negative results.
Despite the many science fiction devices used in the book, the story shows Vonnegut s deep
concern for the family unit. After being asked what was happening to America in an interview,
Vonnegut responded by saying, We re lonesome. We don t have enough friends and relatives
anymore (qtd. in Reed and Leeds 116) Almost twenty years before Vonnegut started publishing,
John Steinbeck began to explore the changes taking place in the family during the Great
Depression in The Grapes of Wrath. Though the book has many layers and themes, one of the
major one s is the changing family. In 1933, six years before

Financing and Structuring Health Care
Financing and Structuring Health Care
(1) Three main types of Health Insurance:
The three major types of health insurance available in the US are Health Maintenance
Organizations HMOs, Point of Service plans POS, Preferred Provider Organizations PPOs. (Health
Insurance Coverage, 2010) All the three coverage options come under managed care plans wherein
the health insurers collaborate with healthcare providers to build networks. HMOs offer the most
economical health insurance coverage, however their plans are not always flexible. As they come
under HMO purview the insured has to pay monthly premium while the co payments are
relatively low for hospital and subsequent office visits. When an insured belongs to an HMO,
there is a restriction to visit doctors within his network only and any failure will entail footing the
bill by the insured himself. Prior to visiting Specialist Doctors, HMOs often need the insured to get
referrals. Even visiting the Emergency Room needs approval if one belongs to an HMO. (Health
Insurance Coverage, 2010)
Nevertheless HMOs fixed rates encourage them to offer outstanding coverage for health
improvement as well as preventive care services. POS plans are comparable to HMOs on the
aspect that their domain is healthcare networks. In case the insured primary care doctor refers him
to a doctor outside the network, the insurance company will honor major part of the bill. Also, if
the insured refers himself to a doctor outside his network, the

Near Field Communication ( Nfc )
NFC Report Name Date Near field communication (NFC) Near field communication (NFC) is a
set of protocols that allow communication between two electronic devices. Most commonly this
technology is used for communication between portable devices like smartphones. Even though it
is a contact less system of communication, it requires that the devices are within 4 cm or 1.57
inch distance from each other (Carter Faulkner, 2015). Basically, this technology relies on
creating a low speed connection between the devices which has a very simple setting up
procedure. It has found application in a vast variety of applications, ranging from contact less

Homelessness Under The Mckinney Vento Homelessness...
Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s
been recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of
homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual:
who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime
residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides
a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place
not designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.
Homelessness is basically another form of poverty except more extreme, yet society treats it as if
it was on another spectrum of problems. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying
things like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work
and just live off the government for free. What many forget to think about are the factors that have
these people on the street, or the fact that they are not only experiencing personal hardship by being
without a permanent residence but emotional ones as well. Add the fact they are sometimes
discriminated against and excluded by society, and you will realize you are looking at one of the
most vulnerable populations.

Analysis Of Kenneth D Scott Jr.
Grenada, Senior Seminar Paper
Kenneth D Scott Jr.
SUNY Old Westbury
The specific group that is being studied is Grenadians, mainly Grenadian Americans. Unfortunately
due to its small size, there are not a lot of records of Grenadians immigrating to the US until
around 1950. During that time there was a huge influx of Grenadian women looking to start their
lives anew. Still then the number of Grenadians emigrating weren t as great in reference to the
other Caribbean countries. After the passing of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 (Hart
Celler Act), it increased the amount of people allowed to emigrate from Caribbean countries (Love
Andrews, 2003). Unlike some countries people leaving Grenada to live in America wasn t
necessarily for economic reasons. One of the main reasons is because of the communist views of
the government during the 70s and 80s. According to the U.S. Census Bureau American

Antony In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar
Antony was a very diverse character in the play Julius Caesar. He starts out as a small character
who is only mentioned once or twice an act. Later he is portrayed as a hero for the people.
Towards the end he is depicted as a liar and a cheat whose only goal is to attain power. As you
look over Antony throughout the play, you slowly start to see the real him which only comes
out when he is given the chance to rise up on the political chain. In the beginning of the play, you
hear very little of Antony. He is first mentioned during a scene where Caesar is in public about
to watch men race. Antony is asked to touch Caesar s wife, Calpurnia, as he is running so that
she may become pregnant. He agrees and is believed to have done so. After that, not much is
heard of Antony up until the point where Caesar is killed. There it is debated whether or not
Antony should be killed. It is decided that he will be spared because it is overkill to cut off arms
and legs after the head has already been removed. After this, Antony flees until the next scene where

The second biggest advantage of working out with a fitness training professional is the motivation

The psychological aspect of working out with a trainer is even more important than getting an

The Pros And Cons Of The Social Learning Theory
The social learning theory in criminology states that people learn by observing others, then
attempt to replicate those behaviors they observed. These behaviors are learned through three
different ways according to the social learning theory. The first says that people learn by
observing others behaviors, and the rewards they receive by doing them. The second says that
people learn from observing others behaviors and the punishment that follows. The third way says
that people learn by observing others and receive no consequences for their actions. This paper will
attempt to show the pros and cons of social learningtheory in criminology, and how it relates to

completing his daily list of jobs and tasks. At the end of the day, he finally returns home where
he spends an hour or so with his wife and children before calling going to bed to rest before
another cycle of work. But what does it matter that some guy in some corn growing city delivers
mail and cuts down trees? Well, Don has utilized his work and the attitude he approaches his work
with as a means of expressing his moral and spiritual principles as well as a tool for influencing
members of his familyand community.

Although, his motive can often be misinterpreted as he speaks with insensitivity. wears an intense
expression on his face and , frequently, oversteps social boundaries, his approach to social
interaction enables him to express his concern for others. Don s blunt responses, for example,
enable him to be completely honest with his family and co workers. At the same time, his
threatening facial expressions demonstrate the passion and thought put into his words. Most
importantly, lacking a fear of hurting another person s feelings, Don is able to overcome the
restrictions of polite conversation and clearly deliver the truth to whomever he is speaking. His
rude remarks and borderline impolite phrases demonstrate that he loves his family and friends so
much that he is willing to hurt their feelings to ultimately build them up to be better people. He has
taught me that accepting the consequences of truth is worth building strong relationships founded

The Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Essay
Abstract Mobile ad hoc networks will appear in environments where the nodes of the networks are
absent and have little or no physical protection against tampering. The nodes of mobile ad hoc
networks are thus susceptible to compromise. The networks are particularly vulnerable to denial of
service (DOS) attacks launched through compromised nodes or intruders. This work proposed a
new DOS attack and its defense in ad hocnetworks. The new DOS attack, called Ad Hoc
Flooding Attack(AHFA), can result in denial of service when used against on demand routing
protocols for mobile ad hoc networks, such as AODV, DSR. The intruder broadcasts mass
Route Request packets to exhaust the communication bandwidth and node resource so that the
valid communication cannot be kept.
After analyzed Ad Hoc Flooding Attack, we develop
Flooding Attack Prevention (FAP), a defense against the Ad Hoc
Flooding Attack in mobile ad hoc networks. When the intruder broadcasts exceeding packets of
Route Request, the immediate neighbors of the intruder record the behavior of sender and check its
trust by a trust function . Once the threshold is exceeded, nodes deny any future request packets
from the intruder. The results of this implementation show FAP can prevent the Ad Hoc Flooding
attack efficiently.
Index Terms Ad Hoc Network, MANET, Flooding Attack
I. INTRODUCTION
Ad hoc networks are wireless networks where nodes communicate with each other using multi hop
links. There is no stationary infrastructure or

Skok Freedom Speech
Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, Every step we take towards making the State our Caretaker of
our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master. The First Amendment to the
Unites States Constitution has been under much scrutiny and had much heat of late. Returning to
its pure roots, National Socialist Party of America v. Village of Skokie describes how the U. S.
Government must allow freedom speech, even if it is evil, to protect the democracy. When the
National Socialist Party of America (NSPA), a professed Nazi group, applied for a permit to
demonstrate in the highly Jewish city of Skokie, the town refused to grant the permit. NSPA took
their case to the county court which granted them the ability to peacefully protest... Show more

This case points back to the purpose of government. Dwight D. Eisenhower as did many Unites
States presidents, stated countless times that a democracy can only stand with virtuous people
as its citizens. If evil people fill the country, only a dictatorship can bring order. This case
demonstrates that America is built upon allowing the free speech of controversial and opposing
views. Limiting the rights of the NSPA would pave the way for other types of speech to be
limited. My initial view was of course that anyone promoting Nazis views should not be allowed
to march, especially considering the town s Jewish population. After further consideration, I
realized that if the government has the ability to restrict Nazis protests, they have the ability to
silence me if I am trying to share my faith with a Nazi and it offends them. If we give this power
of limiting free speech to the government, they will basically be able to limit it however they so
choose. If we allow the government to specifically certain types of speech, that power will
invariably grow and power that is once tasted is not given back. We would most definitely loose
freedom in other areas of speech. The speech, though I m sure it caused emotional distress, did not
physically harm the citizens of the town. I do think that the banning of the swastika was
appropriate. At popularly agreed times, it is not appropriate to demonstrate with the Confederate
Flag or other symbols that can inferred with extreme

Differences Between Cesna And Embraer
Cessna and Embraer offer aircraft for commuter, business and private use. Currently, Cessna
offers 9 business jets in their fleet. A 10th aircraft is in production, with an unknown maximum
passenger capacity and the longest distance capability of 4,500 nautical miles. The Citation
Mustang, the smallest of the Cessna aircraft, carries a maximum of 5 passengers at a maximum
distance of 1,200 nautical miles. The largest aircraft in the Cessna fleet, the Citation Longitude
has a capacity of 12 passengers and a range of 3,400 nautical miles. (Cessna 2016). Embraer
offers 7 executive jets for purchase, ranging from 4 to 19 passengers. The largest of the fleet, the
Lineage 1000E is able to fly a maximum of 4,600 nautical miles, with 13 to 19 passengers on
board; the smaller aircraft, the Phenom 100 is able to fly 4 7 passengers, based on configuration, a
maximum of 1,178 nautical miles (Embraer 2016). Each manufacturer provides the highest quality
of furnishings and avionics in each aircraft. Both offer living quarters in the larger aircraft, as well
as a food preparation area. Cabin entertainment and communication networks are supplied in...

However, both Cessna and Embraer are very competitive with the other high end luxury brands
of Gulfstream and Dassault Aviation. While the Gulfstream G650 and the Dassault Falcon
2000LXS are larger aircraft with a heftier price tags ($65 million and $33 million, respectively),
the operating costs are higher compared to Cessna and Embraer. (Cessna 2016, Embraer 2016).
The Cessna and Embraer aircraft are capable of flying at the same cruising altitudes as their
competitors, as well as flying at relatively same operating speeds of 0.8 Mach (Cessna 2016,
Embraer 2016); Dassault (Dassault 2016) and Gulfstream (Gulfstream 2016) are capable of 0.9 and

Native American Modern Art
Modern is a term that can hold many different meanings. In order for something to be modern it
must be created or inspired by the experiences of living in modernity. A period of social, political,
and economic change that began in the eighteenth century. Since the definition of modern is so
broad it allows for lots of controversy about whether or not something is necessarily modern. When
it comes to modern artthis especially is an issue. In most of the worlds eyes modern art is a
european practice that came from artists like Van Gogh and his contemporaries. But in reality many
other artists and cultures developed their own forms of modern art. Many Native North American
artists participated in this movement of modernism, using the same conceptual... Show more content

Howe s painting style was very modern, stemming from both the style he was taught at the Studio
School and modern geometric shapes. His piece Rider, a mural that he painted at the University of
South Dakota, portrays Sioux dancers and riders as explosive fractures of color. This painting is
very abstract with bright colors and sharp geometric shapes. The styles used in the painting are very
similar to that of many other European modern artists. Regardless of this neither the modernist
movement nor the traditional indian painters accepted Howe s work. When Howe attempted to
enter his work in the 1958 Philbrook Annual he was told that his paintings did not represent Indian
style. He explained that though the image may not look like it hold traditional meaning that these
explosive figures were connected to the Sioux trickster and shape shifter Iktomi, and thus were
influenced by traditional Native American culture. Howe also explained to the curator that Native
American Art is much more than pretty stylized pictures and that Indian art must develop in the
same way that European art

Felons Should Be Abolished
For centuries, criminals have been punished in ways not limited to physical incarceration. In
Babylonian times, the Code of Hammurabi guaranteed justice by ensuring the perpetrator s
punishment was commensurate to his or her crime; for example, an eye for an eye. A punishment
such as that was the cornerstone of justice because it removed what the culprit robbed from his or
her victim. In other cases, much like the one currently in place in the United States, a convicted
felon is not only physically imprisoned, but also civilly and mentally incarcerated. Even after a
citizen convicted felon is released from prison, his or her civil duties are no longer required by
society, duties such as voting, a fundamental part of the American democratic... Show more content

In fact, most states have already taken the initiative of allowing their convicts to vote after the
completion of his or her sentence. In Arizona, voting rights are automatically restored to first time
offenders after the completion of his or her sentence; however, repeating offenders must be given a
Governor s pardon (NCSL np). California not only automatically restores voting rights after the
completion of a sentence, being either parole or probation, but also, the State of California does not
disenfranchise convicts in county jails (NCSL np). Many other states restore rights after the
completion of the sentence, but in every state, the rules and processes are different. For example, in
Tennessee, convicted felons are permanently disenfranchised if he or she committed a heinous crime
such as murder, rape, treason, voter fraud, or a violent sexual offense; whereas other states
enfranchise its convicts immediately after the completion of the sentence regardless of their crime

The original location the statue was placed was in the public square outside the Palazzo della Signoria. However, in 1873 it was moved to the Galleria dell Academia and in 1910 it was replaced by a replica in the public square. Early Church Writings I found the early Church writings interesting, because it gave me a clearer understanding of the lattice weaving between the scriptures, catechetical manuals, witness statements, and liturgical guides working together supporting each other within the Catholic Church. After the fall of Jerusalem 70AD, the Holy Spiritwas obviously present for the Jewish rabbis to meet and agree on what Old Testament books would be considered Sacred Scripture: The Law, or Torah is the first five books of the Bible, the historical books, the Prophets, and the Writings. Origen also taught three ways of interpreting Scripture; the literal (referring to the intention of the author), the moral (our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, we should not desecrate our temple with bad habits) and the allegorical, (eternal significance, the Church is leading us to Heaven). 1777 years later the Vatican II gave three very similar guidelines for interpreting the Bible: 1. attention to the content and unity of the whole Scripture 2. adherence to the Church s Tradition 3. mindfulness of the analogy of Faith. The analogy of Faith means the harmony or coherence of the truths of Faith relative to one another and within the whole plan of Revelation. (CCC 112 114) Presently the modern Church does offer a bible that has good footnotes, pictures, maps, and clear explanation of scripture, more importantly to combat heresy; we must read the bible with a sense of Tradition, from what the original author means to say, not what I think the reading means. It helps to overcome the update problems. There are various forms of normalization namely 1NF, 2NF, 3NF, 4NF and 5NF. Another type of normalization is BCNF. 1NF ensures that there are no multi valued attributes in any table. 2NF is used to eliminate any partial dependencies and ensure that all non key columns depend on the entire primary key. I have used an auto incremental system assigned key to serve as a primary key for all the tables. Hence the primary key can be modified if it is entered incorrectly or needs to be changed. In the department table, department id being the primary key needs to be unique, but a department could have more than one product. Hence I gave a system assigned primary key to the department table. Now, it leads to transitive dependencies as department name was determined by department id and did not depend on the primary key. Hence to bring the table to 3NF I made a separate department table and added a junction table to link product and department. (3) The employee table had a start and end date. This did not cater to the face that multiple employs could have the same start and end date and also an employee could resign and join again. Also, the salary could change depending on his tenure. To address this and get the table to 1NF, I made a separate entity for employee tenure making employee id as the foreign key linking the employee table. (4) The order table had a primary key order id and columns for state and tax. The tax was dependent on non key column state and hence the table violated 3NF. Hence I separated the state and tax columns in a separate column and linked it to the orders table. (5) The order table initially was designed to include billing. With the provision of a bill to be cleared in multiple transactions the billing could have multiple values and hence was made a separate entity to bring it to 1NF. • 10. Characterization For Disdemona And Desdemona By William... Women are often held to different standards than men and an ideal woman is hard to describe, even harder to find. This paper will explore the views and expectations of how woman are portrayed in the sixteenth century. In Cinthio s, The Unfaithfulness of Husbands and Wives, Story Seven, an ideal woman was said to be faithful and a faithful woman would rather commit suicide than to commit adultery (Cinthio 32), while in Shakespeare s Othello, an ideal woman is said to breastfeed and inquire about useless matters (2.1.159). Cinthio s and Shakespeare s use of characterization for Disdemona and Desdemona, respectively, demonstrates that the wives of men in the sixteenth century were to be gentle servants. Cinthio focuses more on the common stereotypes about women, while Shakespeare challenges them. In both text, the women are developed indirectly through their actions and how others view them. In Cinthio s text, women are advised to stay home and take care of their household; they are to marry who their parents approve of and are to be submissive and obedient at all times. Disdemona went against all of these notions. She was deeply in love with the Moor, but she did not fit the criteria of an ideal woman. Disdemona, for fear that she d be apart from the Moor, wanted to go to war with him, she married the Moor despite her parent s approval, and she spoke out of turn toward her husband for the defense of someone else, the Corporal. • 11. Alfred Hitchcock s Elements Of Suspense In Psychodo Busayo Oladipupo Professor K. Lyon Cinema 101 01 Dec 13th, 2017. Final Paper Alfred Hitchcock was a renowned film director known for his elements of suspense and psychological thrillers. His most popular work psycho uses the story of a phoenix secretary (Marion Crane) who embezzled money from a client to unveil the psycho in the male character (Norman Bates). The success of the film is greatly relied on Hitchcock s unique techniques in creating tension and suspense. Elements that contributed to the success of the film include motifs and parallels, and perspective used. The most prominent motifs in psycho are birds, eyes and mirrors. Hitchcock uses birds to support the theme of duality in the film. In one critical scene where Norman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These instances lead to eyes taking significance in the film, and implicates the audience on the note that the film is showing what should not be seen. Unlike Norman s other victims that were not detailed, Mrs. Bates and Marion s eyes depict a watchful one that threatens Norman therefore leading to their deaths. Mirrors were also used throughout the film to enhance the theme of duality. After Marion stole the money, Hitchcock recurrently compares her with her reflection (like in the used car lot), even though she rarely looks at it. Marion s refusal to look at own reflection in the mirror underscores that she is going to keep going in the path that she has chosen and not look back. Marion s denial of her reflection led her to the Bates Motel where she met with her death. The shift in narration of Psycho has been a topic worth discussing in the world of film making. Most films employ a system of restricted narration, which conveys external events as well as the knowledge, thoughts and feelings of one or two major characters without the intervention of an explicit narrator. But there is a significant shift of narration from restricted to omniscient that Hitchcock used to keep the audience engaged with the film. The early scenes and exposition of the film is focused on Marion. The audience see things from the perspective of Marion her theft, her relationships as an employee and as a woman. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. We planned to use all of the materials, but we had to cut or bend them. We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index cards at the 10 cm mark that we made with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath On Maslow s hierarchy of needs, the need for belongingness and love ranks only below the need for survival, making it one of our most basic needs (Weiten 267). Many people fill this need for affection by participating in a family unit. However, as the 20th century continues, the emphasis on family in America is decreasing. Divorce rates, single parent households, and children born out of wedlock are all increasing. Furthermore, instead of the network of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and other relatives that was prevalent in early America, Americans today are more distant from their extended family. Even if this is true, the current period of decline still spurns numerous problems and attempted solutions. The changing family isn t a new issue. Over twenty years ago, Kurt Vonnegut presented the idea of the artificial family in his book Slapstick. President Wilbur Swain, the central character in the novel, inacts a plan to bring all people in America together by giving them artificial families based on randomly assigned middle names; the program reaps both positive and negative results. Despite the many science fiction devices used in the book, the story shows Vonnegut s deep concern for the family unit. After being asked what was happening to America in an interview, Vonnegut responded by saying, We re lonesome. We don t have enough friends and relatives anymore (qtd. in Reed and Leeds 116) Almost twenty years before Vonnegut started publishing, John Steinbeck began to explore the changes taking place in the family during the Great Depression in The Grapes of Wrath. (Health Insurance Coverage, 2010) All the three coverage options come under managed care plans wherein the health insurers collaborate with healthcare providers to build networks. HMOs offer the most economical health insurance coverage, however their plans are not always flexible. As they come under HMO purview the insured has to pay monthly premium while the co payments are relatively low for hospital and subsequent office visits. When an insured belongs to an HMO, there is a restriction to visit doctors within his network only and any failure will entail footing the bill by the insured himself. Prior to visiting Specialist Doctors, HMOs often need the insured to get referrals. Even visiting the Emergency Room needs approval if one belongs to an HMO. (Health Insurance Coverage, 2010) Nevertheless HMOs fixed rates encourage them to offer outstanding coverage for health improvement as well as preventive care services. POS plans are comparable to HMOs on the aspect that their domain is healthcare networks. Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s been recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual: who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place not designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying things like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work and just live off the government for free. The Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Essay Abstract Mobile ad hoc networks will appear in environments where the nodes of the networks are absent and have little or no physical protection against tampering. The nodes of mobile ad hoc networks are thus susceptible to compromise. The networks are particularly vulnerable to denial of service (DOS) attacks launched through compromised nodes or intruders. This work proposed a new DOS attack and its defense in ad hocnetworks. The new DOS attack, called Ad Hoc Flooding Attack(AHFA), can result in denial of service when used against on demand routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks, such as AODV, DSR. The intruder broadcasts mass Route Request packets to exhaust the communication bandwidth and node resource so that the valid communication cannot be kept. After analyzed Ad Hoc Flooding Attack, we develop Flooding Attack Prevention (FAP), a defense against the Ad Hoc Flooding Attack in mobile ad hoc networks. When the intruder broadcasts exceeding packets of Route Request, the immediate neighbors of the intruder record the behavior of sender and check its trust by a trust function . Once the threshold is exceeded, nodes deny any future request packets from the intruder. The results of this implementation show FAP can prevent the Ad Hoc Flooding attack efficiently. NSPA took their case to the county court which granted them the ability to peacefully protest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This case points back to the purpose of government. Dwight D. Eisenhower as did many Unites States presidents, stated countless times that a democracy can only stand with virtuous people as its citizens. If evil people fill the country, only a dictatorship can bring order. This case demonstrates that America is built upon allowing the free speech of controversial and opposing views. Limiting the rights of the NSPA would pave the way for other types of speech to be limited. My initial view was of course that anyone promoting Nazis views should not be allowed to march, especially considering the town s Jewish population. After further consideration, I realized that if the government has the ability to restrict Nazis protests, they have the ability to silence me if I am trying to share my faith with a Nazi and it offends them. If we give this power of limiting free speech to the government, they will basically be able to limit it however they so choose. If we allow the government to specifically certain types of speech, that power will invariably grow and power that is once tasted is not given back. We would most definitely loose freedom in other areas of speech. The speech, though I m sure it caused emotional distress, did not physically harm the citizens of the town. I do think that the banning of the swastika was appropriate. At popularly agreed times, it is not appropriate to demonstrate with the Confederate Flag or other symbols that can inferred with extreme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Native American Modern Art Modern is a term that can hold many different meanings. In order for something to be modern it must be created or inspired by the experiences of living in modernity. A period of social, political, and economic change that began in the eighteenth century. Since the definition of modern is so broad it allows for lots of controversy about whether or not something is necessarily modern. When it comes to modern artthis especially is an issue. In most of the worlds eyes modern art is a european practice that came from artists like Van Gogh and his contemporaries. But in reality many other artists and cultures developed their own forms of modern art. Many Native North American artists participated in this movement of modernism, using the same conceptual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Howe s painting style was very modern, stemming from both the style he was taught at the Studio School and modern geometric shapes. His piece Rider, a mural that he painted at the University of South Dakota, portrays Sioux dancers and riders as explosive fractures of color. This painting is very abstract with bright colors and sharp geometric shapes. The styles used in the painting are very similar to that of many other European modern artists. Regardless of this neither the modernist movement nor the traditional indian painters accepted Howe s work. When Howe attempted to enter his work in the 1958 Philbrook Annual he was told that his paintings did not represent Indian style. He explained that though the image may not look like it hold traditional meaning that these explosive figures were connected to the Sioux trickster and shape shifter Iktomi, and thus were influenced by traditional Native American culture. Howe also explained to the curator that Native American Art is much more than pretty stylized pictures and that Indian art must develop in the same way that European art ... • 45. Felons Should Be Abolished For centuries, criminals have been punished in ways not limited to physical incarceration. In Babylonian times, the Code of Hammurabi guaranteed justice by ensuring the perpetrator s punishment was commensurate to his or her crime; for example, an eye for an eye. A punishment such as that was the cornerstone of justice because it removed what the culprit robbed from his or her victim. In other cases, much like the one currently in place in the United States, a convicted felon is not only physically imprisoned, but also civilly and mentally incarcerated. Even after a citizen convicted felon is released from prison, his or her civil duties are no longer required by society, duties such as voting, a fundamental part of the American democratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, most states have already taken the initiative of allowing their convicts to vote after the completion of his or her sentence. In Arizona, voting rights are automatically restored to first time offenders after the completion of his or her sentence; however, repeating offenders must be given a Governor s pardon (NCSL np). California not only automatically restores voting rights after the completion of a sentence, being either parole or probation, but also, the State of California does not disenfranchise convicts in county jails (NCSL np). Many other states restore rights after the completion of the sentence, but in every state, the rules and processes are different. For example, in Tennessee, convicted felons are permanently disenfranchised if he or she committed a heinous crime such as murder, rape, treason, voter fraud, or a violent sexual offense; whereas other states enfranchise its convicts immediately after the completion of the sentence regardless of their crime (NCSL ...
