I chose to attend service at two different Jewish churches. The first one was Congregation Gesher
L Torah in Alpharetta, Georgia and the second was Congregation Beth Hallel in Roswell, Georgia.
Though both were of the Judaism religion, there were some differences. I attended a Friday night
service at Congregation Gesher L Torah. My apprehensions about being black and going to a
Jewish church made me invite a friend to go with me. I was glad I did, as the stares and long looks

The church was rather small, but quite modern. There was a small playground in the back for
children to play. All of the windows were made of beautiful stained glass. As we approached the

Roland Barthes The Rhetoric Of The Image Analysis
In his essay The Rhetoric of The Image, Roland Barthes explores the relationship between image
and meaning. He centres his discussion around the advertisement as advertising is a medium in
which there is an intended message being sent to the viewer. Barthes puts forward that if an image
contains signs, in advertising the signs are full , as these signs are formed with the viewer in mind
so that the intended message is not missed.
Barthes states that there are three messages that comprise a reading of an image:
The Linguistic message
The Iconic (symbolic/ connotated) message
The Denotated message (comprised of the physical objects within the image)

The set, costume, and props were visually pleasing and apt for the historical mood of the movie.
Also, familiar faces were seen some of them are; ER Estregan, with the main role; Christopher de
Leon, Cesar Montano, and Nora Aunor. Despite the massive effort used to present this period film,
somehow it failed to deliver a message to the viewers. El Presidente centers on controversial figure
in the Philippine history, Emilio Aguinaldo. There are two different sentiments of the Filipinos
when he is the topic of discussion. He is either seen as a hero or an indecisive person, also known
as a balimbing. The storytelling was not tight; it lingered too long on scenes that are not that
essential example are the battle scenes. With their two hours running time, they could have had
added more relevant historical events. The narrative could have been effective if the story gave
more depth to the character, rather than the almost paralyzed expression of the actor. Speaking of
the actor, I believe that ER Estregan failed to effectively portray the character. Aside from the age
discrepancy wherein they could have had a younger actor for the role, his acting was repetitive, and

agree that Abraham Lincoln was one of the best presidents that our country had. There are many
reasons why Emancipation Proclamation changed the civil war on a liberation of slaves. In order to

importance to the past because the slaves were free and they could work, had their own money and

This Earth of Mankind has been a cruel yet memorable story by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This
Earth of Mankind, the first in a collection of four novels, gives the readers a glimpse into the
colonial period of the Dutch Indies. Minke, a young Native man, narrates the story and shares his
thoughts throughout the novel. The basic premise of the story revolves around Minke experiencing
many social injustices, meeting remarkable characters, and developing his own opinion on the
world around him. Tragedy strikes Minke when his wife, Annelies, is forcibly taken away shortly
after their marriage. The plot, however, is not the highlight of the novel. The star of the story is the
underlying message. From the very front cover of the novel is a clue into what it is about.
Pramoedya littered the story with themes and ideas that tackle the issue of social discrimination and
