Essay On Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Crafting an essay on "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be a challenging task that requires a
keen understanding of the text, literary analysis skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas.
The difficulty arises from the multifaceted nature of the story, which delves into themes such as
heritage, identity, and the clash between traditional and modern values.
One must navigate through the intricate characters, such as Dee, Maggie, and their mother, and
analyze their relationships and motivations. The symbolism woven throughout the narrative, like
the quilts and household items, adds another layer of complexity. Addressing Walker's use of
language, style, and narrative techniques further demands a careful examination.
Furthermore, an effective essay on "Everyday Use" requires the writer to engage deeply with the
cultural and historical context of the story, considering Walker's perspective as a Black feminist
author. This necessitates research and critical thinking to provide a nuanced interpretation.
Despite the challenges, writing an essay on this topic can be a rewarding intellectual exercise. It
allows the writer to explore the layers of meaning embedded in the narrative and to develop a
thoughtful analysis that goes beyond surface-level observations.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Everyday Use" demands dedication, critical thinking, and a
deep appreciation for the complexities within Walker's work. However, the process of
deciphering and interpreting the text can be intellectually stimulating, offering insights into the
broader themes and messages woven into the fabric of the story.

What Are The Effects Of The Bataan Death March
During the years of 1939 through 1945 a global war known as WWII or the
Second World War, was fought between great powers and nations. December 7,
1941, the date in which the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese surprised the
US and the rest of the world which also sparked the battle between the Japanese
and the allied forces of the Americans and Filipinos. The Bataan Death March, an
event that was part of WWII and ended with many American and Filipino lives lost
but also showed the world how strong and dedicated the US nation is. The Death
March was a forced march of American and Filipino POW s. The march had a

also on December 7th, the invasion of the Philippines began. A month later the
Japanese have managed to fully undertake the capital of the Philippines, Manila.
For the next three months Americans and Filipino forces combined to defend their
territory. On April 9th , the US and Filipino forces, consisting of about 75,000
troops, surrendered at Bataan from the orders of U.S. General Edward King Jr by
the reasons of starvation and disease. After the surrender, the Japanese separated
the troops into small groups of about 100 people and forced POW s to march a 65
mile journey into captivity in San Fernando where thousands more prisoners died
because of starvation, disease and mistreatment. Along the way many POW s were
treated poorly since there was a lack of food, water and resting time and the
Japanese believed that soldier must die before surrender. A great amount of the
prisoners also got bayoneted, shot, beheaded, or left to die on the side of the road.
The march lasted for five days and for some it lasted up to twelve days to get to
captivity. The significance of the march was that all the prisoners under the
Japanese were used as slaves and in terrible conditions and little food. The Bataan
Death March took place after Pearl Harbor and after both of these tragedies the
americans were angered and motivated to fight for their
True Flies Research Paper
True flies are insects of the order Diptera (from the Greek di = two, and ptera =
wings). The most obvious distinction from other orders of insects is that a typical
fly possesses a pair of flight wings on the mesothorax and a pair of halteres, derived
from the hind wings, on the metathorax. (Some species of flies are exceptional in
that they are secondarily flightless.) The only other order of insects bearing two
true, functional wings plus any form of halteres are the Strepsiptera, and in contrast
to the flies, the Strepsiptera bear their halteres on the mesothorax and their flight
wings on the metathorax. Contents [hide] 1 Order Diptera 2 Anatomy and biology

In some flies, this is a temporary rotation during mating, but in others, it is a
permanent torsion of the organs that occurs during the pupal stage. This torsion
may lead to the anus being located below the genitals, or, in the case of 360В°
torsion, to the sperm duct being wrapped around the gut, despite the external organs
being in their usual position. When flies mate, the male initially flies on top of the
female, facing in the same direction, but then turns round to face in the opposite
direction. This forces the male to lie on his back for his genitalia to remain engaged
with those of the female, or the torsion of the male genitals allows the male to mate
while remaining upright. This leads to flies having more reproduction abilities than
most insects, and at a much quicker rate. Flies occur in great populations due to their
ability to mate effectively and in a short period of time during the mating
Abigail Adams Letter To Her Husband Analysis

a.In the letter to her husband, John Adams in Philadelphia, serving the Continental
Congress, Abigail Adams refers unlimited power husbands exercise over their wives
to make a point about gender inequality between men and women in their society. As
in 1700s women were considered a second class citizen, where the husband (men) has

Discrimination In The Public School System
Discrimination in education goes further than the theory of the school to prison
pipeline. Discipline in schools raise several questions but one in particular, are
minority children punished more harshly than white children for the same
infractions? Most parent s response to that question would be home school. Common
among white Americans, is showing an increase among African American kids. The
government play a huge role in education, however what role does the government
and the Obama administration play in the matter of discrimination in schools? School
discipline, the law, and racism, how do they contribute to discrimination of education
in the public school system?

Majority of minority students are suspended or expelled. This pushes minority
students out of the classroom to the juvenile or prison system. If a white student pulls
the fire alarm and a minority student does the same offense, will each student get the
same punishment? Research says no, the white student usually gets a warning and the
minority student get a few days suspension or possibly expelled. Policies such as
these usually have destructive results, as reported most of these students who are
victimized usually drop out or are placed in the prison system. Many African
American parents turn to home schooling for their kids due to racism in the public
school system. This give African American parents the opportunity to teach their
child(ren) about the African/African American culture and history. Many parents
report that they have the chance and opportunity to also teach self esteem and pride
for their race. Many black parents that homeschool are women that engage in racial
protectionism, the knowledge and confidence to overcome racism that they may face.
Most of these parents go out their way to educate their youth about black people that
have achieved greatness in a specific domain such as literature, politics, science or

Some freed serfs migrated to towns, where they took up trades. The numВ ber of

Eventually, educated people began to question the teachings of the Church. A
movement called humanism developed, which praised the beauty and intelligence of

Barack Hussein Obama II, born August 4, 1961, a graduate of Columbia University
and Harvard Law School, is the 44th and current president of the United States. For
your information, he is also the first African American to hold the office.
He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He also

As a staffer for the Developing Communities Project, Obama worked with churches
on the city s industrial South Side to organize workers who had lost their jobs due to
the steel mill and factory closings.
After three years in some of the toughest neighborhoods of Chicago, Obama decided
to attend Harvard Law School, promising to return to these same streets. After being
elected the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama
could have turned his academic success into a six figure job with a prestigious law
firm.
Instead he chose to keep his promise. He returned to Chicago in 1991 where he
joined a small civil rights firm and ran a voter registration drive that put 150,000 new
voters on the rolls, helping Bill Clinton carry Illinois in 1992.
In 1996 he was elected state senator from his Chicago district. In the Illinois
Legislature, Obama worked with Democrats and Republicans to help working
families get ahead by creating a state Earned Income Tax Credit. He also pushed
through expansion of an early childhood education program.

Pablo Picasso And George Braque
1. Pablo Picasso and George Braque founded cubism in the early 20th century in
Paris. It was an artwork to be considered as the first radical approach in expressing
visual reality. According to Cubist, any perception of an object was a composite of
simultaneous and different perspectives. Cubism tries to help one understand the
world around them in a different way by changing their perspective on a certain
subject. It is an approach of art where a painter takes a real life object and changes
it in a completely different way to the way he or she views it in there mind and how
they perceive it. Cubismused geometric shapes to replace traditional forms. An
example of this type of art form is Picasso s 1907 painting, Les Demoiselles... Show

One of the most famous Surrealists was the Spaniard Salvadore Dali, who subverted
the sense of reality in his painting by using near photographic detail in presenting a
fantastic and irrational world. One of his most famous artworks was the persistence
of memory . It represented that time was fluid. What motivated him to draw this
picture was the Brie cheese that was melting in front of him while he was having a
picnic.
2. Technological achievements created a second stage of the Industrial Revolution
that transformed the human environment and led people to believe that their
material progress would improve world conditions and solve all human problems.
The invention of electricity was a major new form of energy that proved to be of
great value since it could be easily converted into other forms of energy, such as heat,
light, and motion, and moved relatively effortlessly through space by means of
transmitting wires. In 1910, hydroelectric power stations and coal fired steam
generating plants enabled entire districts to be tied into s ingle power distribution
system that provided a common source of power for homes, shops, and industrial
enterprises. Electricity procreated a whole series of innovative products such as the
incandescent filament lamp. This opened homes and cities to illumination by electric
Analysis Of Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing
Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing is remarkably different in tone from
the other plays discussed. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and
Merchant of Venice, there are far fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to
modern audiences. The film has much less violence in it than the others and even its
chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright evil manipulator.
The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard
III or Iago, but Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong
movie. He lurks in the shadows and is not really given a compelling motive for his
cruel actions. He does not even enact the rare few scenes of violence in the film. In a
different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain could ruin the whole production,
but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most important parts are
the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite well.
It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so
successful. Claudio s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and
it is quickly followed by a romantic scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore
the tone. It comes across well as a modern romantic comedy, with just enough
darkness to drive the plot forward. To make the film darker than it has to be would
diminish how enjoyable and fun to watch it is.

Themes Of The Lost Generation
The 1920s were times of loss for the United States. After seeing countless deaths of
soldiers in a war many didn t believe in, the years after World War I were times
when people lost hope in classic principles such as bravery and courage. The Lost
Generation were people who saw the horrors of the war throughout their life. Ernest
Hemingway shows major themes of the Lost Generation through his stories after the
war; he shows the pursuit of decadence in Hills of White Elephants, impotence
through Soldier s Home, and idealism through both stories (O Connor).
While there is always some pursuit of decadence in all people throughout the ages,
the years after World War Iwere times when hedonistic views were most prevalent.

Krebs no longer has motivation to try to date, Krebs did not feel the energy or the
courage to break into it (Hemingway). It being the complications and drama of
trying to have a real girlfriend. Krebs describes his need to live a life with no more
consequences: alone. Krebs is a great representation of many of the Lost
Generation, wanting to live the rest of his life in solitary to reduce complications.
Additionally, we see Krebs cope with the war by reverting back to his childlike
nature. This encounter between Krebs and his mother shows us that regression, I
know, Mummy, he said. I ll try and be a good boy for you (Hemingway); this act of
returning to childhood is a way he can justify his impotence. Many people in the Lost
Generation lost all motivation to go on with a normal life, Hemingway shows this
theme well through a lonely soldier named Krebs (O Conner).
Krebs and the man in Hills of White Elephants pursued life after World War I in
different ways, but they both idealized their relationships with women. Krebs liked
looking at the girls in his hometown, but he didn t want the drama of pursuing them.
He compares the normal women from his town to the women from France and
Germany whom he couldn t communicate with, which created a mainly friendly
relationship. Comparatively, the man from Hills of White Elephants romanticizes his
girlfriend Jig. The man is very
Hepatitis C Virus ( Hcv )
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a small (~55 to 65 nm), spherical enveloped virus that can
cause major illness. Hepatitis C was discovered after the intense investigations
between 1982 and 1988 in Chiron corporation. Michael Houghton discovered the non
A and non B hepatitis by using the molecular approach. Hepatitis Caffects liver
caused by the hepatitis virus; the virus can cause acute and chronic hepatitis
infection ranging from a mild illness to severity, lifelong illness. Mostly patients
are affected with acute infection; however, chronic hepatitis is caused by liver
cirrhosis a severe scarring which can lead to liver failure. HCV affects more than
185 million people worldwide. The rate of chronic hepatitis is affected by race,
gender, and viral immune response. Depending on the certain region, hepatitis C
infections can be concentrated in certain populations or in general populations. The
HCV have high genetic diversity which is characterized by regional variation which
makes treating the infection more challenging. Hepatitis patients are often prescribed
ribavirin and interferon; but current research is developing new therapeutic drugs
which will be less toxic and can be targeted to each genotype. This review will
provide the historical, and scientific aspects of hepatitis C virus.
The Discovery of Hepatitis C: Michael Houghton through the molecular biology
approach identified the cause non A and non B hepatitis. Before 1989, the

Brocklehurst Jane Eyre
Myriad stories incorporate the idea of the relationship between adults and children
into their plot, and Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyre fits this category through its
numerous scenes of adults and children interacting. In particular, Jane s relationship
with adults, especially Mrs. Reed and Mr. Brocklehurst in chapter four exemplifies a
particular type of relationship Jane often has with adults: one of powerlessness yet
conviction. In this particular passage, Jane first encounters Mr. Brocklehurst at
Gateshead Hall, and though Jane wishes to defend her character against the slanders
of Brocklehurst, she is forced to remain quiet while Mrs. Reed further impugns Jane s
character. Indeed, this passage indicates how BrontГ« portrays the relationships...

Brocklehurst exhibits a deep strain of enmity. After hearing Mrs. Reed s lie about
Jane, Mr. Brocklehurst remembers it in his attempt to humiliate and discredit Jane
at Lowood School. Calling her a liar and a servant of the devil in front of her new
schoolmates and teachers point to little else than utter contempt for Jane. While her
name is eventually cleared in front of the school s population of students and
teachers through the efforts of Miss Temple, the efforts of Mr. Brocklehurst to hurt
Jane in her time at Lowood School point to little else but enmity. As for Jane s
relationship to Mrs. Reed and Mr. Brocklehurst, she shares some of the deep
antipathy towards them as they do her. However, the authority the two adults have
over her, the child, prevents her from responding to their hatred of her in a
comparable manner. She does not remain silent, though, in one of her last encounters
with Mrs. Reed, in which she promises to reveal Mrs. Reed s improper treatment of
her and vows to never call her aunt again. While it shows the enmity runs both
between adult and child, only the adult has license to fully express

Geller Recommends Selecting the Best Approach When Trying to Improve Safety.
What Is The Best Approach, As Suggested by Geller, And Why? What Are the Other
Options Considered?
According to Geller, the perceived best approach to safety in the workplace might
not always be the right one. Most organization seek to have the quickest and cheapest
approach to improving safety, while others adopt an approach that offers the most
benefit but with the least effort (Geller, 2000). While both approaches to safety...

Geller argues that though repetition of a certain behavior (safe or unsafe) is
necessary for a habit to be formed, the number of repetitions vary from person to
person (Geller, 2000). In addition, there is a variation in behavioral types, as most
complex or inconvenient behaviors (like safety related behaviors) may never
become a habit despite the number of times that the behavior is repeated. Also for
some behaviors to be habitual, there might be a need for a conscious and deliberate
effort by the doer for a habit to be established (Geller, 2000).
Myth 5: We Can Only Motivate Ourselves, Not Others This fifth myth is also not
true. According to Geller, through motivation we are able to encourage people to
adopt safe behaviors rather than unsafe behaviors that are more convenient, efficient
and a habitual norm (Geller, 2000). Hence since an intervention can be made by
motivating others, the myth is a fallacy (Geller,

The Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass An...
In The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass An American Slave by himself,
the author asserts that no one should be held as a slave if they have the ability to
read, write, or think. Douglass, a former slave himself, was denied the simplest
knowledge other children were privileged. Douglass supports his claim by telling
the audience how one of his masters stopped teaching him because her husband
said that if you teach a slave they are unfit to be a slave, secondly by telling the
audience how he did not know his own birthday. The author s purpose is to show
how terrible slave is in order to bring slaveryto an end. Based on the purpose of this
book, Douglass has written to the people who have the power to abolish slavery.

Medieval Feudalism Essay
As children, we grew up with a picture of the medieval European society to be a
fairy tale, where everyone had wonderful lives. As it is also stated in the book about
how Disney interpretations ignores the level of oppression under feudalism. In the
medieval times the social and economic system ran based on the European feudalism,
which caused various problems for majority of the population. The Europeans
feudalism consisted of 90 percent of their population being peasant, then 5 percent
being knights, the other 5 percent being the nobles and royalty. This was the structure
of the medieval feudalism and what might have led to the Europeto colonization.

of the manors even had power to do what they wish, since they had the law at their

The Five Senses Of Touch Or Tactile Communication
Touch or tactile communication is described as the earliest and probably the most
basic form of communication. (Richmond, 2012, p. 174) From the first handshake
between professionals preparing to negotiate the terms of a business deal to the first
touch between the newborn and mother to the first kiss between new lovers, touch
can send a powerful and memorable message.
All know that the five senses are sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. However,
perhaps few have consciously considered that while the senses of sight, hearing,
smell, and taste are restricted to specific parts of the human body, the sense of touch is
the only sense initiated from all over the body. (Richmond, 2012, p. 175) From the

society into a mass state of touch depravation. (Richmond, 2012, p. 179) Research has
found that body contact is less frequent among North
Americans, who are often referred to as noncontact oriented.
(Richmond, 2012, p. 186) Touch depravation is problematic because it has been
shown that a lack of touch can negatively affect the ability to develop and can result
in a variety of health problems. (Richmond, 2012, p. 191) Touch depravation has led
to another phenomena among adults in Western society called touch substitution
wherein professional functional touch is substituted to play a very significant role
in everyday life. (Richmond, 2012, p. 179) Richmond also reports, adults often use
the services of licensed touchers to fulfill the body contact needs that result from
decreased adult contact in our society. We hire masseuses and masseurs, barbers, and
beauty specialists, and may sometimes even increase our visits to the doctor merely
to get a good dose of tactile medicine. (Richmond, 2012, p.
Change By John P Kotter
Introduction
The definition of change according to the Webster dictionary is to become different
or to make someone or something different. John P Kotter writes that change is
always about changing the behavior of people (preface XII) Kotter explains that
change is a concept that is used by organizations to restructure or improve their
business behavior. Many companies find it difficult to initiate change due to the lack
of motivating employees or leaders. In his book, Kotter proposes an eight stage
process that could help organizations that are looking for change.
Discussion
The Eight important stages of change by John P. Kotter
Stage one: Establishing a Sense of Urgency
In this stage Kotter shares business stories of successful companies that increased
urgency to spark a change. He explains that there are four behaviors which could
prevent change. Behaviors like complacency, immobilization, self protection, you
can t make me move deviance, and pessimistic attitude that leads to constant
hesitation. (Kotter and Cohen, p17) These four negative elements have to be
approached carefully because if they are not the employees wouldn t not have any
sense of urgency to perform any changes. To have a successful introduction to
change and for it to be received with urgency, it has to be presented in a way that the
leaders of an organization will back it up, because they are part of a larger activity
aimed at helping to lower feelings undermining urgency. (Kotter

The Blues: in Hughes The Blues I m Playing and Baldwin s Sonny s Blues
In Langston Hughes The Blues I m Playing, the blues are the source of Oceola s
life and her choices. Langston is trying to illustrate the conflict between life and art.
The art in this story is represented in a confined manner, as a disciplined career with
a white woman acting as the overseer in the young lady s life. Art to Oceola, with its
profit, convenience and privileges offers an array of benefits, but being embodied in
Dora Ellsworth, the art seems to drift away from life s vitality. Life in Oceola sings
itself in jazz and blues in Harlem, ignores the artistic East 63rd Street and the rules
by which are claims its superiority. There is a ... Show more content on

Oceola s final words, sketched according to mood, race, and sex, explain what blues
are. She says, Listen!... How sad and gay it is. Blue and happy laughing and
crying...How white like you and black like me... Warm as Pete s mouth... These are
the blues... I m playing.
In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues he deals with a man trying to find his identity in a
very hostile society. The blues in this story is used in a more emotional manner which
recollects the past. It also repairs the relationship between the two brothers who have
chosen two different ways of coping in their ghetto environment. The blues also
serves as a communication devise between the two brothers. Baldwin uses the blues
to state a fact; the ugliness and meanness inherent in the human condition. In order to
really understand the message of the blues you have to be one that has suffered just
like Sonny and the elder brother. The blues that they play also communicates to other
sufferers who have had their own trials, so they know what this music is all about.
Sonny s suffering are within himself, but deep suffering is common to all his
listeners. Even his brother can attune himself to this suffering, which is brought on by
the death of his little daughter Grace. When the brother is at the club listening to the
blues he recalls his mother, the moonlit road on
Representation Of African American Films
The medium of film and television have not been effectively coding the many
American conflicts of the past decades. The roles of superheroes, villains, and
antiheroes have always been used in every film and media directly or indirectly,
introducing which is which. Since the beginning of modern film, many movies plots
and conflicts have revolved around a protagonist or several protagonists faced with an
opposing force that is disturbing the order of things, usually another individual bent
on malicious intent. A battle between the good and the bad, the heroic and the
villainous. Unfortunately, the conflicts between good and bad have not been
effectively introduced through this medium. Throughout history, the definition of
what is good and what is bad has also changed slightly as a result of the effects of the
Sexual Revolution and the Judeo Christian ethic, and this has indeed been reflected in
the more modern movies of today.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, politics, most notably the presidential election, through the medium of
television has become very confusing and has turned audience s attention to subjects
that do not matter much. In addition, films about racism, particularly towards African
Americans, serve only as propaganda to feed SJW rhetoric into the minds of
Americans. Furthermore, the lack of films and media coverage of educational reform
has made audiences uninformed about this issue. On the other hand, the medium of
film has succeeded in providing an effective discussion of income inequality in
America. Although film and media has succeeded in providing accurate information
about income inequality in America, they have failed in effectively coding the
conflicts of politics, racism, and education
American Politics During The Vietnam War
Essay B
One of the most prominent influences of art throughout history has been politics. The
50s through 70s in America are a great example of this, for so many of this era s
songs were arguments against America s involvement in the Vietnam War and
criticisms of American politics at the time. However, this phenomenon was prominent
long before the Vietnam War and was not just an American trend; in fact, two of the
most influential and famous pieces of the early 20th century were products of
political oppression on the other side of the world. Both Paul Hindemith, under the
Nazi Regime, and Dmitri Shostakovich, under the communist reign of Stalin,
managed to fight political oppression through their music. The two composers had
very different ways of doing so. Hindemith wrote two separate pieces, one that
directly opposed the Nazi regime, and another that was so nationalistic he was
forgiven for his previous mistakes , whereas Shostakovich wrote a single piece which
seemed just as nationalistic as Hindemith s symphony yet it had a deeper, much more
rebellious underlying message. Even though their methods differed, both Hindemith
and Shostakovich were able to express their true feelings about the totalitarian
governments that were repressing their artistic ability.
Paul Hindemith had created many Romantic compositions and operas that were
very well received by the public before the Nazi s took power. Although some of this
work was seen as risquГ©, such as his opera Neues vom
1984 Doublethink Research Paper
Do you think that doublespeak is dangerous? Explain your opinion in a personal

Taking a Look at Niels Henrik Abel
Niels Abel s life was dominated by poverty and we begin by putting this in context
by looking briefly at the political problems which led to economic problems in
Norway. At the end of the 18th century Norway was part of Denmark and the
Danish tried to remain neutral through the Napoleonic wars. However a neutrality
treaty in 1794 was considered a aggressive act by Britain and, in 1801, the British
fleet destroyed most of the Danish fleet in a battle in the harbour at Copenhagen.
Despite this Denmark Norway avoided wars until 1807 when Britain feared that the
Danish fleet might be used by the French to invade. Using the philosophy that
attack is the best form of defence, the English attacked and captured the whole
Danish fleet in October 1807. Denmark then joined the alliance Britain Britain. The
continental powers blockaded Britain, and as a counter to this Britain blockaded
Norway. The twin blockade was a catastrophe to Norway preventing their timber
exports, which had been largely to Britain, and preventing their grain imports from
Denmark. An economic crisis in Norway followed with the people suffering hunger
and extreme poverty. In 1813 Sweden attacked Denmark from the south and, at the
treaty of Kiel in January 1814, Denmark handed over Norway to Sweden. An
attempt at independence by Norway a few months later led to Sweden attacking
Norway in July 1814. Sweden gained control of Norway, setting up a complete
internal self government for Norway with a government in

The Problem Of Homeless Heroin Injectors For A 10 Year
Period
The public rarely pays close attention to homeless people on the streets. There is
one kind of homelessness that have dedicated their lives to heroin; these people call
themselves righteous dopefiends . Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg became
part of the daily lives of these homeless heroin injectors for a 10 year period in
Edgewater Boulevard. Through various interviews with the addicts, we came to find
out their shocking personal histories that led to their addictionand homelessness.
These Edgewater homeless came from different ethnic backgrounds, however, they
shared two common things; all of them were homeless and were addicted to heroin.
They lived in dead end alleyways, storage lots, vacant factories, defective cars, and
highway embankments (4). The reason they labelled themselves as righteous
dopefiends was because believed they were worthy in society, despite their actions.
Going through ceaseless pain and anxiety of hunger, exposure, infectious diseases
was reasonable to them because of their commitment to heroin (5). Throughout my
paper, it will show that medication has an important implication in the lives of the
homeless heroin injectors.
Moral expectations in the Edgewater drug community is based on sharing, fairness,
and justice (6). This type of economy is perfect for small communal societies, where
their motto is to get mutual aid in order to avoid the free rider problem. Members of
the community pool their money together to purchase heroin, and
Rhetorical Analysis of the Children s Era by Margaret
Sanger
Rhetorical Analysis of The Children s Era Today, the availability of birth control is
taken for granted. There was a time, not long passed, during which the subject was
illegal ( Margaret Sanger, 2013, p.1). That did not stop the resilient leader of the
birth control movement. Margaret Sanger was a nurse and women s activist. While
working as a nurse, Sanger treated many women who had suffered from unsafe
abortions or tried to self induce abortion (p.1). Seeing this devastation and noting that
it was mainly low income women suffering from these problems, she was inspired to

4). To prove this point she demonstrated the inefficiency of the children s programs
that were already in place. She used another metaphor to show the logical
breakdown of efficiency in the system. Sanger (1925) went on to interpret the
children s charities that were currently in effect as the Grand Central Station of life,
with trainloads and trainloads of children being dumped off faster than anyone knew
what to do with them (para. 4). This analogy is influential because everyone in New
York, where the speech was delivered, was familiar with Grand Central Station and
how it was a hectic, main hub. Relating the amount of children to the overwhelming
atmosphere of the crowded station illustrated the difficulties and insufficiencies the
receiving committee faced as they tried to care for the massive amount of abandoned
children (Sanger, 1925, para. 4). Sanger proceeded to emphasize her points using
both emotion and logic. She used alliteration and powerful word choice to invoke
emotion about parentless children, listing out that the children were unwelcome,
unwanted, unprepared for, [and] unknown (Sanger, 1925, para 4). These are very
strong words to use to describe children. No one wants to think of children in these
ways because it is sad. Further explaining the ineffective system, she structured her

His dark umber eyes widened with fear and he could feel every heartbeat pounding

back, he could see a man limping closer and closer. A man with a white, rubber
mask that covered his face. He was dressed in a worn out cotton tank top and sagging

Landfill Gas Generation And Collection From Waste
2.2LANDFILL GAS GENERATION AND COLLECTION FROM WASTE
Landfills are designed structures built into or on top of the ground to ensure refuse
isolation. The design and operations act to ensure that there are minimal effects to
public and environmental health. MSW landfills have 6 components: 1] Bottom liner
systems, 2] Refuse wells 3] Storm water drainage system, 4] Leachate collection
systems, 5] methane collection systems, and 6] a covering cap. These components
promote methane capture [Sawyer, 2007].

Drainage pipes and storm water liners collect water from different areas in the
landfill and channel it to collection ponds before it is pumped off site [Freudenrich,

4.Leachate Collection systems optimize landfill systems and are designed as fail
safes for the storm water drainage systems. Whenever water permeates through the
landfill wells, it reacts with organic and inorganic contaminants and then becomes
leachate. It is treated as sewage or wastewater before it is released [Freudenrich,
2005].
5.Methane recovery systems are used to pump methane and carbon dioxide which is
then collected and then transported to processing stations [Guo Song, 1996].

Compare And Contrast Roosevelt And Wilson
The Progressive Era occurred between 1900 1917. This era brought many important
movements that challenged traditional relationships and attitudes. Great leaders like
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson served during this time. Theodore
Roosevelt was elected governor of New York in 1898. Became vice president in 1900
and took office in 1901 after the assassination of William McKinley. Theodore
Rooseveltbecame the 26th president. Woodrow Wilsonbecame governor of New
Jersey in 1910. Wilson defeated Roosevelt at the 1912 election becoming the 28th
president. Although Roosevelt and Wilson had their differences, we can all agree that
the most striking similarities among both presidents was their shared commitment to

Their personalities were complete opposite. Roosevelt came from a wealthy New
York family and was a war hero during the Spanish American War. Roosevelt s
flamboyance and ambitions made him the most popular politician of the time, and
enabled him to dramatize the issues of progressivism and to become the first
modern president (Goldfield, et al. p. 490) Roosevelts expansion of government
power and its consolidation in the executive branch were his most significant
accomplishments. The executive branch became reorganized by Roosevelt. To
promote rational policymaking and public management, Roosevelt staffed the
expanding federal bureaucracy with able professionals (Goldfield, et al. p. 490).
Roosevelt established the first White House press room. Roosevelt tripled the size
of the forest reserves to set aside acres valuable for minerals and petroleum, and to
establish dozens of wildlife refuges. Wilson however, combined public eloquence
with a cold personality; he balanced a self righteousness that led to stubborn
inflexibility with an intense ambition that permitted the most expedient compromises
(Goldfield, et al. p. 495) Wilson was a conservative. He was president of Princeton
University and became a prominent representative of middle class respectability and

Faulkner s Condemnation of the South in Absalom, Absalom
William Faulkner came from an old, proud, and distinguished
Mississippi family, which included a governor, a colonel in the Confederate
army, and notable business pioneers. Through his experiences from growing up in the
old South, Faulkner
has been able to express the values of the South through his characters.
William Faulkner s Absalom, Absalom offers a strong condemnation of the
mores and morals of the South.
Faulkner s strong condemnation of the values of the South emanates
from the actual story of the Sutpen family whose history must be seen as

To fulfill his quest, Sutpen
spends his entire life trying to repeat the past only to correct it (Bloom
38). He has a grand design to be the son who seized the power of his
father and then be the father to keep that same power from being seized by
his own son (Searle 23).
The first step of Sutpen s design includes marrying Eulalia Bon and
having a pure white son named Charles Bon. When Thomas Sutpen realizes
that Charles is partially Negro because of Eulalia s heritage, he rejects
them both and is forced to start his design over. This is Faulkner s way
of condemning racism in the South. Thomas Sutpen later marries Ellen
Coldfield and has a second son named Henry and a daughter named Judith.
Thomas Sutpen s design is nearly complete when Charles shows up from his
first marriage and falls in love with Judith, nearly uniting the two
families. This incestuous relationship causes Henry Sutpen to kill Charles
Bon to save his family from miscegenation. Using incest in this novel is
another way that Faulkner condemns the mores and morals of the South.
Thomas Sutpen tries two more times to fulfill his design by trying
to have a pure white son and refusing to let that son seize the power that
he had successfully seized from his father.

to be something you just made up yourself it can be a story you heard somewhere.
Well known author Jack London began writing his stories when he headed off to the
Klondike during the gold rush.
Jack London was born in 1876 in San Francisco, California. When his father
abandoned the family his mother remarried and he took his stepfather s last name.
London discovered early on that it was a struggle to make a living and he worked
various jobs like a sailor, oyster pirate and fish patroller. Troubles began in 1893
during the national economic crisis and London joined a march of unemployed
workers. After he was put in jail for vagrancy for a whole month he decided
Pros And Cons Of The Nba Draft
The one and done rule is a slang term used to explain an NBA player who stays in
college for at least one year before entering the NBA Draft. (Anon., n.d.) The NBA
draft is an annual event where 30 franchises in the National Basketball Association
(NBA) select new players for their teams. Eligibility rules for players to enter the
NBA draft have changed many times during the history of the league. No
basketballer may sign with the NBA until he has been entitled for at least one draft.
The rule has manufactured one and done players that play college basketballfor one
year before declaring for the NBA draft. (Anon., 2016) The one and done rule
provides benefits to the NCAA, the NBA, and the players involved, but they are not
equivalent across the board. The issues from the rule are becoming further noticeable
each season. (Dorji, 2015)

University of Kansas, hoping to avoid injury and revealing himself to a potential
decrease in his value. After all, there s nowhere for a projected No. 1 pick to go but
down. If Wiggins had been selected first overall pick in the most recent draft, he
would have become an immediate millionaire, gathering approximately $4.3
million in salary in 2013 14 with raises, qualifying offers and huge extensions
guaranteed to come after in following years. Wiggins is a top tier example of how
the one and done rule is unfair to players who are not only physically ready to
compete in the NBA, but who have nothing to gain and everything to lose by
undertaking the risk of attending college. (Hughes,

1. I believe that these values do accurately reflect what is of greatest importance to
me. There are alternate values that perhaps could have landed on this list, but these
values ring true to me and are an accurate portrayal of that which I hold dear to me
and use as guidance within my life decisions. 2. The most difficult values to discard
were forgiveness, loving, and nurturing. I had an arduous time ranking items such as
God s will and friendship. My predicament with God s will was my ruling on
whether it was legitimately very important to me, or whether I simply knew that it

Based on my week, I spend the bulk of my time on school associated activities.
This was not a surprise to me, what I was surprised by was the small amounts of
time that I devote to my religion. Although I attend seminary, read my scriptures,
and pray everyday, the accumulative time of all on these activities adds to just over
an hour a day. I am quite aware of how I spend my time, it is very unusual for me to
lay around and waste time of useless tasks.
2. Based on my week, I can only largely identify two main values from exercise #1:
knowledge and service. This makes sense because I spend 32 hours sitting in class a
week. This doesn t include time spent on homework or other corresponding activities.
Something that did not make too large of an appearance was my spirituality. I will
admit that my scripture studies and other related activities were extremely diminished
this week. But it is to be expected that my religion isn t quite as evident within my
daily schedule because it isn t practical to spend over 4 hours a day reading scriptures,
there simply isn t enough time. True spirituality is seen through more subtle actions
than in extravagant activities that draw large amounts of attention. With this
considered, I do still need to increase the amount of time I spend improving my
Why Employers Need To Be Defined Contributions
A pension is my first retirement plan. Pension is or can be one of the most
effortless retirement plan, because little effort is required of you. With a pension
the employer contributes all the money during employees working life. Usual a
fixed amount, paid at regular intervals to a person or surviving dependents. This
amount can also be paid by the government to a person who is old or sick and no
longer works.
Defined Contribution Plans is a type of retirement plan in which the employer,
employee or both make contributions on a regular basis. A certain amount of money
is set aside each year by company for the benefit of the employee. There are
restrictions as to when and how you can withdraw these funds without penalties. The

Decline Of The Liberal Party Essay
The decline of the Liberal party and the subsequent rise of Labour was caused by a
variety of intertwining factors. The Liberal Party to some extent played a part in
its own downfall but this essay seeks to explore this and other factors, such as the
role of the First World War and the electoral system, in the decline of the Liberal
Party and how they aided the rise of Labour. In my opinion, the First World War is
the over arching event, that set the decline of the Liberal Party in motion. When the
Liberal Party won the 1910 election it did not know that it would become the party
to lead Britain in the war when it started in 1914. For a party wedded to international
conciliation, personal liberty, free trade, social reform, and voluntary... Show more

However, they did not really have a choice because not only was joining the war
was the popular sentiment, but Great Britain also had a commitment to ensure
Belgium s neutrality by the Treaty of London which had been violated by the
Germans. However, the Liberal Party was very reluctantly committed and Asquith
was not a war leader. He was indecisive and failures very early on in the war forced
him to form a coalition government in order to prevent attacks from the
Conservatives and the media. War brought about the need to take state action
which trampled individual liberties deemed important to Liberal ideology
(Black,2000:186) and David Lloyd George rose as a key figure in the liberal Party
willing to trample these liberties for the good of the country, and arguably for his
political career, but to the detriment of the Liberal Party. He wanted to mobilise all
resources for war and he was an advocate of conscription which most Liberals were
very strongly opposed to as it was seen as opposed to the Liberal tradition of civil
liberty (Black,2000: 184) and this effectively put him and his supporters on the side
of the Conservatives and opposite to Asquith. This internal conflict eventually led to
the split of the

Star Wars Argumentative Essay
Can two items be drastically different, but still attract a large audience? Most
people would say yes, but is this limited to television programs? It s definitely not,
nor is it limited to the ownership by the same company. Star Wars productions with
completely different aspects receive a great amount of popularity all the time. Star
Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, while similar in many ways, are vastly
different programs. Star Wars the Clone Wars is an animated television
program that
was released in 2008 on cartoon network. While Star Wars Rebels is also an
animated program, but was release in 2014 on Disney Channel. Despite their
differences, the two shows are immensely popular and will create a legacy in the Star
Wars universe. Most notably, the Clone Wars and Rebels differ in animation
,
improvement as time went on, and their length, yet the two come together to form a
fan favorite production. The first difference between the Clone Wars and Rebels is
the animation; while both are enjoyable, each show has their own personal and
unique style. The Clone Wars began with 2D animation, but as time continued, their

While Clone Wars focused on physical and character development, while also
having a longer series, Rebels prefers to stay where they are comfortable and move
at a fast pace in an episode, thus ending the series faster. In some ways their
differences help grow their popularity. The differences also show how Lucasfilm
sometimes strays from normality and tries something new. Though they have
different physical appearances, expectations, and they move at their own rate, they
both easily please their intended audience with their characters and Star Wars relation.
This shows how two items can be significantly different, but still be immensely
The Roles Of The Indus River Valley And Egyptian...
Rivers are the key aspect of civilization. The early civilizations are usually found by
rivers. The reason is these rivers give early civilizations certain gifts, or the
essentials for survival. The rivers give people silt. Silt is a very wet clay the makes
soil fertile for farming, no matter your location. In turn, the plans grown in silt give
the civilizations food and items to trade. Another, gift is fresh water. You cannot
drink salt water, or water your plants with salt water or they would die. The fresh
water allows civilizations to use irrigation systems to move the flooding of the rivers
to the plants to water them. With the fresh water, they can even clean themselves
with it. Along with silt, the river provides food by giving fish... Show more content on

The geography was a huge aspect of the civilizations way of life. The Indus River
Valley was a very peaceful civilization. There was little to no weapons found in the
civilization. They faced so much time with no attacks they had no army. The reason
the Indus River Valley could remain untouched because of its natural barrier. The
Hindu Kush Mountains surrounded the civilization to the north and the rest was
surrounded water. The rivers provided transportation out of the civilization and
acted as a trade route for the people. Despite their communication with the outside
world, the civilization remained peaceful because no civilization was going to
climb mountains to conquer it. One civilization did cross the mountains. They
were called the Aryans. The Aryans combined with the civilization presently there
and created one huge civilization. The disadvantage of the location of the Indus
River Valley Civilization was monsoons. Monsoons were strong seasonal winds
that gave the civilization two seasons: the wet and the dry. The wet season was
during the summer and it blows moist air eastward causing floods. The dry season
was during the winter months and it blows dry air westward causing droughts.
Although there was a disadvantage of living in the Indus River Valley Civilization,
it was still a very peaceful civilization to live in. Out of these civilizations, I would
rather live in the Indus River Valley. One reason is the Indus River Valley

abnormally shaped proteins called prions, it occurs in both humans and animals.
One of the most common types of human prion diseases is sporadic Jakob

According to the book Neurological Eponyms , in 1921, Jakob described four

previously published cases about a young twenty two year old woman described
by Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt in 1920. Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt was born in
Harburg, near Hamburg, on June 2, 1885. During World War 1, he was a German
naval officer in the North Sea. Jakob later released his fourth case of human prion

Jakob had released the fifth case in his book, he was able to examine Creutzfeldt s
slides and had received a preprint of Creutzfeldt s article in Nissel and Alzheimer s
1920 book. He noted that the changes were similar to those of his patients. Jakob
grouped them together as examples of spastic pseudo sclerosis. In turn, Creutzfeldt
agreed with Jakob that they appeared to be identical; he then insisted that their cases
constituted a completely new entity. Jakob and Creutzfeldt may disagree on many
things, but they both agree that each of the six cases are identical to the
Sheila Mant Comparison
I never made the same mistake again (Wetherell 35). A Sound of Thunder by Ray
Bradbury and The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant by W.D Wetherell are
contrastive short stories, but they have their similarities. The characters Sheila
Mant from W.D Wetherell s short story and Eckels from Ray Bradbury s short
story have some resemblance. The authors of both short stories use literary
devices, literary elements, and also express the theme of choices have
consequences. The narrator s affection for a girl named Sheila Mant in Wetherell s
short story and her actions foreshadows what later happens. On the way to the
concert, there was largemouth bass flipping around in the water, and Shelia made a
face and said, I think fishing is dumb. I mean, it s boring and all. Definitely dumb
(Wetherell 33). The narrator is passionate about fishing, and he finds out the girl he
has an enormous crush on did not have the similar enthusiasm for fishing as he does.

Characterization In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Exploring the idea that all men are born sinners, O Connor demonstrates immoral
indulgences entertained by various characters. Readers are introduced to
grandmother, an elderly woman whose consistent unscrupulous behavior exhibits
her inner motives. Grandmother uses subtle, indirect confrontation to get her way
until she is faced with The Misfit, a runaway criminal who believes that crime is a
justifiable. In A Good Man Is Hard To Find, Flannery O Connor uses
characterization to display a loss of morals, imagery to portray evil in society, and
symbolism to emphasize the struggle of obtaining grace to prove how life is
nihilistic without religion. Characterization is used not only to amuse readers, but
to also display an understanding of human nature, in this case a decline in values.

Martin Luther King Is A Hero Essay
In the letter, Letter from Birmingham Jail , Martin Luther King Jr. states that one
day the South will recognize its real heros. For Martin Luther King, he is shown to
be a hero because of his criteria and how he matches up with that criteria. As for
King s criteria, a hero needs to be intelligent, inspiring, determined, brave, honest
and decisive. Being intelligent and inspiring is one of King s criteria for being a
hero. For example, Martin Luther King and the leaders of the Alabama Christian
Movement for human rights decided to postpone the program to a date where the
most amount of people will be able to hear it. We decided to schedule our direct

For instance, Martin Luther King is shown being determined because he responds
back to every call for aid/help to achieve his goal of freedom. Like paul, I must
constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid (page 7 paragraph 3). For a hero,
being determined means that you are resisting against the negatives and the
obstacles you come up upon. It proves that the hero is committed and doesn t give
up easily. Arguably the most common and most important criteria of a hero is to be
brave, as Martin Luther King states that some people broke unjust laws to achieve
their goal. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is
unjust and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse
the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the
highest respect for law (page. 11 paragraph 20). It shows that this individual is
really brave enough to be imprisoned and accept the penalty of whatever law he/she
is willing to break. This fits into King s criteria as a hero must be brave brave to
sacrifice something or face a difficult/tedious task. This shows how being
determined and brave is part of King s criteria for being a
How Data Is Important Factor For Business Decisions
Today, our society is bombarded by data driven business society. Data are facts and
statistics collected together for reference and analysis. It can also be measurements,
values, words, observations or even descriptions. Data has a lot of use. Companies
can use data to gather information on how things work. It can even be used to
differentiate things and find their similarities. Data is basically a tool for research
purposes. Data became one of the prominent assets of the today s business industry.
From the traditional manual surveys and online surveys up to different types of data
gathering methods, big companies are spending millions and millions of dollars just
to improve their business through the use of data. Data became such... Show more

That is when gathering data comes in to disrupt that unwise business decision and
help managers make better decisions based on the data they gathered. One example
of how data is used to help manage an organization is how energy drink company
determined which type of people should they focused on targeting for their
products. A manager can determined who usually drinks their product by doing
surveys. Of course, most of people would assume that people who play sports are
the ones they should be focused on, but how about the others like people who late
overnight like security guards and call center agents; college students who do their
homework late at night; people working on a 24 hour retail store or just workaholic
guy who stays overnight working on his business presentation. Market segmentation
is very important for businesses and data plays a big role on how they can determine
their potential consumers. They are potential target, although not as big as athletes,
but no one knows their estimate number unless we do some research and that is
when data gathering methods like surveys kicks in. The manager can form a group
of survey makers to do some surveys to determine which type people, age, gender,
race and occupation drinks energy drinks. After they gathered the data and laid down
the details and convert it to a business language, the manager could determine the
potential market for
Reflection Of Job
Philosophically written by an anonymous author Job is a reflective book in the
Bible, focusing on common setbacks for Christian viewpoints. The author of Job
may be acknowledged through reading. The author specifically addresses
individuals with intimate faith in Yahweh (God). The author was also a well
traveled individual who could captivate on an abundance of knowledge and
experience. He knew the constellations (Job 9:9; 38:31 ESV), could discuss
meteorology (Job 38:22 38 ESV) or even describe a sophisticated mining operation
(Job 28:1 11 ESV). His effort of showcasing Job, is simply about God and man; it
was inscribed to individuals who battle with the righteousness of a sovereign God in
a world bursting with misery.
The book of Job discusses a blameless and upright man who feared God (Job 1:1
NKJV). Job was an astounding headman, who was protected in the center of family
and wealth. However, his faith and persistence were tried by Satan. Fortunately, Job
was victorious, with a remunerated faith. The author acknowledges that God never
forsakes the one amid suffering. Yet, all suffering is not inevitably due to the
individual sin of the one suffering. This was a way of displaying vindication from
God. Witch is contrary to the widespread concepts that have persevered from then
until now. The delinquent of suffering is timeless, whether national or individual.
Suffering allows people to obtain greater faith in God. Additionally, God requires his
saints a faith that

However, the fact that Fierro did away with citations to make the book more

Essay On Everyday Use By Alice Walker.pdf

  • 1. Essay On Everyday Use By Alice Walker Crafting an essay on "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker can be a challenging task that requires a keen understanding of the text, literary analysis skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas. The difficulty arises from the multifaceted nature of the story, which delves into themes such as heritage, identity, and the clash between traditional and modern values. One must navigate through the intricate characters, such as Dee, Maggie, and their mother, and analyze their relationships and motivations. The symbolism woven throughout the narrative, like the quilts and household items, adds another layer of complexity. Addressing Walker's use of language, style, and narrative techniques further demands a careful examination. Furthermore, an effective essay on "Everyday Use" requires the writer to engage deeply with the cultural and historical context of the story, considering Walker's perspective as a Black feminist author. This necessitates research and critical thinking to provide a nuanced interpretation. Despite the challenges, writing an essay on this topic can be a rewarding intellectual exercise. It allows the writer to explore the layers of meaning embedded in the narrative and to develop a thoughtful analysis that goes beyond surface-level observations. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Everyday Use" demands dedication, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for the complexities within Walker's work. However, the process of deciphering and interpreting the text can be intellectually stimulating, offering insights into the broader themes and messages woven into the fabric of the story. After the surrender, the Japanese separated the troops into small groups of about 100 people and forced POW s to march a 65 mile journey into captivity in San Fernando where thousands more prisoners died because of starvation, disease and mistreatment. This torsion may lead to the anus being located below the genitals, or, in the case of 360В° torsion, to the sperm duct being wrapped around the gut, despite the external organs being in their usual position. When flies mate, the male initially flies on top of the female, facing in the same direction, but then turns round to face in the opposite direction. This forces the male to lie on his back for his genitalia to remain engaged with those of the female, or the torsion of the male genitals allows the male to mate while remaining upright. This leads to flies having more reproduction abilities than most insects, and at a much quicker rate. Flies occur in great populations due to their ability to mate effectively and in a short period of time during the mating

  • 13. Analysis Of Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing Kenneth Branagh s Much Ado About Nothing is remarkably different in tone from the other plays discussed. Unlike the other two comedies, Taming of the Shrew and Merchant of Venice, there are far fewer comedic aspects that do not translate well to modern audiences. The film has much less violence in it than the others and even its chief villain is more like a cartoon villain than an outright evil manipulator. The tragedies are known for their fascinatingly complex villains such as Richard III or Iago, but Keanu Reeves Don John comes across as a character lost in the wrong movie. He lurks in the shadows and is not really given a compelling motive for his cruel actions. He does not even enact the rare few scenes of violence in the film. In a different play, the ineffectual portrayal of the villain could ruin the whole production, but Branagh understands that Much Ado About Nothing s most important parts are the dynamics between the two sets of couples, something this film does quite well. It is this toning down of violence and dark undertones that allows the film to be so successful. Claudio s striking of Hero is the most noticeable physical violence and it is quickly followed by a romantic scene between Beatrice and Benedick to restore the tone. It comes across well as a modern romantic comedy, with just enough darkness to drive the plot forward. To make the film darker than it has to be would diminish how enjoyable and fun to watch it is. Henry V is similar in some ways

After seeing countless deaths of soldiers in a war many didn t believe in, the years after World War I were times when people lost hope in classic principles such as bravery and courage. The Lost Generation were people who saw the horrors of the war throughout their life. Ernest Hemingway shows major themes of the Lost Generation through his stories after the war; he shows the pursuit of decadence in Hills of White Elephants, impotence through Soldier s Home, and idealism through both stories (O Connor). While there is always some pursuit of decadence in all people throughout the ages, the years after World War Iwere times when hedonistic views were most prevalent. The woman, ... Krebs and the man in Hills of White Elephants pursued life after World War I in different ways, but they both idealized their relationships with women. Krebs liked looking at the girls in his hometown, but he didn t want the drama of pursuing them. Hepatitis C was discovered after the intense investigations between 1982 and 1988 in Chiron corporation. Michael Houghton discovered the non A and non B hepatitis by using the molecular approach. Hepatitis Caffects liver caused by the hepatitis virus; the virus can cause acute and chronic hepatitis infection ranging from a mild illness to severity, lifelong illness. Mostly patients are affected with acute infection; however, chronic hepatitis is caused by liver cirrhosis a severe scarring which can lead to liver failure. HCV affects more than 185 million people worldwide. The rate of chronic hepatitis is affected by race, gender, and viral immune response. Depending on the certain region, hepatitis C infections can be concentrated in certain populations or in general populations. The HCV have high genetic diversity which is characterized by regional variation which makes treating the infection more challenging. Hepatitis patients are often prescribed ribavirin and interferon; but current research is developing new therapeutic drugs which will be less toxic and can be targeted to each genotype. Many companies find it difficult to initiate change due to the lack of motivating employees or leaders. In his book, Kotter proposes an eight stage process that could help organizations that are looking for change. Discussion The Eight important stages of change by John P. He explains that there are four behaviors which could prevent change. Behaviors like complacency, immobilization, self protection, you can t make me move deviance, and pessimistic attitude that leads to constant hesitation. (Kotter and Cohen, p17) These four negative elements have to be approached carefully because if they are not the employees wouldn t not have any sense of urgency to perform any changes. To have a successful introduction to change and for it to be received with urgency, it has to be presented in a way that the leaders of an organization will back it up, because they are part of a larger activity aimed at helping to lower feelings undermining urgency. However, this phenomenon was prominent long before the Vietnam War and was not just an American trend; in fact, two of the most influential and famous pieces of the early 20th century were products of political oppression on the other side of the world. Both Paul Hindemith, under the Nazi Regime, and Dmitri Shostakovich, under the communist reign of Stalin, managed to fight political oppression through their music. The two composers had very different ways of doing so. Hindemith wrote two separate pieces, one that directly opposed the Nazi regime, and another that was so nationalistic he was forgiven for his previous mistakes , whereas Shostakovich wrote a single piece which seemed just as nationalistic as Hindemith s symphony yet it had a deeper, much more rebellious underlying message. Taking a Look at Niels Henrik Abel Niels Abel s life was dominated by poverty and we begin by putting this in context by looking briefly at the political problems which led to economic problems in Norway. At the end of the 18th century Norway was part of Denmark and the Danish tried to remain neutral through the Napoleonic wars. However a neutrality treaty in 1794 was considered a aggressive act by Britain and, in 1801, the British fleet destroyed most of the Danish fleet in a battle in the harbour at Copenhagen. Despite this Denmark Norway avoided wars until 1807 when Britain feared that the Danish fleet might be used by the French to invade. Using the philosophy that attack is the best form of defence, the English attacked and captured the whole Danish fleet in October 1807. Denmark then joined the alliance Britain Britain. The continental powers blockaded Britain, and as a counter to this Britain blockaded Norway. The twin blockade was a catastrophe to Norway preventing their timber exports, which had been largely to Britain, and preventing their grain imports from Denmark. An economic crisis in Norway followed with the people suffering hunger and extreme poverty. Margaret Sanger was a nurse and women s activist. While working as a nurse, Sanger treated many women who had suffered from unsafe abortions or tried to self induce abortion (p.1). Seeing this devastation and noting that it was mainly low income women suffering from these problems, she was inspired to dedicate her life to educating women on family planning even though the discussion of which was highly illegal at the time (p.1). She used another metaphor to show the logical breakdown of efficiency in the system. Sanger (1925) went on to interpret the children s charities that were currently in effect as the Grand Central Station of life, with trainloads and trainloads of children being dumped off faster than anyone knew what to do with them (para. 4). This analogy is influential because everyone in New York, where the speech was delivered, was familiar with Grand Central Station and how it was a hectic, main hub. Relating the amount of children to the overwhelming atmosphere of the crowded station illustrated the difficulties and insufficiencies the receiving committee faced as they tried to care for the massive amount of abandoned children (Sanger, 1925, para. 4). Sanger proceeded to emphasize her points using both emotion and logic. She used alliteration and powerful word choice to invoke emotion about parentless children, listing out that the children were unwelcome, unwanted, unprepared for, [and] unknown (Sanger, 1925, para 4). These are very strong words to use to describe children. No one wants to think of children in these ways because it is sad. Further explaining the ineffective system, she structured her logical

  • 56. Martin Luther King Is A Hero Essay In the letter, Letter from Birmingham Jail , Martin Luther King Jr. states that one day the South will recognize its real heros. For Martin Luther King, he is shown to be a hero because of his criteria and how he matches up with that criteria. As for King s criteria, a hero needs to be intelligent, inspiring, determined, brave, honest and decisive. Being intelligent and inspiring is one of King s criteria for being a hero. For example, Martin Luther King and the leaders of the Alabama Christian Movement for human rights decided to postpone the program to a date where the most amount of people will be able to hear it. We decided to schedule our direct action program for the Easter season, realizing that except for christmas, this is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Martin Luther King is shown being determined because he responds back to every call for aid/help to achieve his goal of freedom. Like paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid (page 7 paragraph 3). For a hero, being determined means that you are resisting against the negatives and the obstacles you come up upon. It proves that the hero is committed and doesn t give up easily. Arguably the most common and most important criteria of a hero is to be brave, as Martin Luther King states that some people broke unjust laws to achieve their goal. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law (page. 11 paragraph 20). It shows that this individual is really brave enough to be imprisoned and accept the penalty of whatever law he/she is willing to break. This fits into King s criteria as a hero must be brave brave to sacrifice something or face a difficult/tedious task. This shows how being determined and brave is part of King s criteria for being a

That is when gathering data comes in to disrupt that unwise business decision and help managers make better decisions based on the data they gathered. One example of how data is used to help manage an organization is how energy drink company determined which type of people should they focused on targeting for their products. A manager can determined who usually drinks their product by doing surveys. Of course, most of people would assume that people who play sports are the ones they should be focused on, but how about the others like people who late overnight like security guards and call center agents; college students who do their homework late at night; people working on a 24 hour retail store or just workaholic guy who stays overnight working on his business presentation. Market segmentation is very important for businesses and data plays a big role on how they can determine their potential consumers. They are potential target, although not as big as athletes, but no one knows their estimate number unless we do some research and that is when data gathering methods like surveys kicks in. • 58. Reflection Of Job Philosophically written by an anonymous author Job is a reflective book in the Bible, focusing on common setbacks for Christian viewpoints. The author of Job may be acknowledged through reading. The author specifically addresses individuals with intimate faith in Yahweh (God). The author was also a well traveled individual who could captivate on an abundance of knowledge and experience. He knew the constellations (Job 9:9; 38:31 ESV), could discuss meteorology (Job 38:22 38 ESV) or even describe a sophisticated mining operation (Job 28:1 11 ESV). His effort of showcasing Job, is simply about God and man; it was inscribed to individuals who battle with the righteousness of a sovereign God in a world bursting with misery. The book of Job discusses a blameless and upright man who feared God (Job 1:1 NKJV). Job was an astounding headman, who was protected in the center of family and wealth. However, his faith and persistence were tried by Satan. Fortunately, Job was victorious, with a remunerated faith. The author acknowledges that God never forsakes the one amid suffering. Yet, all suffering is not inevitably due to the individual sin of the one suffering. This was a way of displaying vindication from God. Witch is contrary to the widespread concepts that have persevered from then until now. The delinquent of suffering is timeless, whether national or individual. Suffering allows people to obtain greater faith in God. Additionally, God requires his saints a faith that

Anony Anonymous Research Paper The hacktivist group Anonymous has recently terrified many corporations and operations with its ability to hack, publically humiliate and to release confidential information in the name of freedom of speech. Although participation is widely dissipated throughout the world and its current power is quite possibly uncontrollable, Anonymoushad humble beginnings and hasn t always possessed such a violently noble cause. The evolvement of Anonymous from its not so respectable intentions to its worldwide movement for uncensored speech has effectively thrust the nation into a new era of cyber hackers and indignant hacktivists. • 60. Maribel Fierro s Report Maribel Fierro s book Abd al Rahman III: The First Cordoban Caliph was first published in 2005, then again in paperback in 2007. The paperback version is 140 pages, not including the bibliography and index, and the cost of the paperback book was 19.95, in the US. It was originally published by Oneworld Publications in Oxford England, as an Islamic History book. The back cover, which I believe coincides with the author s goal, of the book claims this is meant to be a biographical work and a perfect introduction with an emphasis on readability . However, the fact that Fierro did away with citations to make the book more palatable to the general audience takes away from the credibility of the work. And while I do agree that the book is
