Language variation in Dutch: A Case Study Conducted in Brabant Province, The
Netherlands
Introduction
The study of sociolinguistics has become interesting due to the scope of its study is
very wide. Its study is not only about the study of the language itself but also the
context where the language is being used and the society who use the language.
Therefore, there are many aspects that can be taken into consideration when the
study of sociolinguistics is going to conducted. Those aspects are the social context
as well as social factors including social distance, social status, age, gender and class.
Furthermore, a language also appears varieties such as dialects, registers, and genres.
Before speaking, we tend to consider any aspects as part of social values in the
community. This can appear in a language we use in which we tend to speak
differently in term of different dialects, or genre in a different context for example,
we speak differently to a teacher, close friends, elderly people, or to our parents.
The way we treat people differently in term of the use of language is might be to
show a respect, solidarity, or even a distance. In term of a distance, both social and
psychological distance can be shown through a language for instance, a student who
speaks to a friendly professor that is socially distant but psychologically close and to
a very respected professor that is socially and psychologically distant.

3. The Knowledge Of One s Self Essay
The ability to understand the knowledge of one s self is a helpful skill and can be
very useful in life and in new situations. When one becomes aware of their own
cognitive process, it helps them to fully understand how their brain interprets
information and how they can retain that information, leading to a clear advance in
their academic performance. Many strategies can be used to develop the skill of
metacognition, but the main ones include questioning one s thoughtprocess, using and
organizing one s notes in a way to effectively collect the information that was given,
and developing a level of critical thinking when analyzing material.
A student that is able to analyze key information from material will be able to gain
a better understanding of it and will be easier to remember. Questioning main
concepts that are present within the reading help to break down the significant
material into easier to remember information. Asking questions such as What is the
main idea the material is trying to portray? can help to initiate the thinking process
that the reader needs to use when analyzing a piece of reading (2016). This helps
the reader to get a main idea of the topic and analyze the material they are reading,
triggering an easier response when a student comes across the subject on a test. A
student that tries to interpret the way the writer thinks is able to grasp the style and
ideas that the writer is showing within a text. A similar question that can be asked is

4. Why Is Criminal Law Wrong
Criminal law is one we hear the most about. Criminal law are wrongs that are social
evils or threats against society. It can be petty offenses, misdemeanors, or felonies.
A good example of this could be anything from shoplifting to someone killing
someone else. These crimes could mean staying in jail for a short period of time to
getting life in prison. Civil law covers civil matters. Civil law is done to an
individual that isn t breaking the law. Like I said in class I had a surveyor come
out and survey my land and the surveyor noticed a mistake and moved my uncle s
corner stob 2 feet over and my uncle had a fit on me and called the police, who told
him that I hadn t broken any law and it was considered a civil matter not a criminal
matter. Long story short he took me to court to fight over 2 feet of land to which he
lost. The judge ruled in my favor.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common form of constitutional law that we see in the US involves cases

example can be even though we have freedom of speech a lot of places such as

my opinion is wrong. They don t want it because they are afraid you might offend

governs activities of administrative agencies of government. One example of this is
if someone applied for Social Security Disability benefits and has been denied. They
follow the appeals process, but is denied again. They can then request a hearing

5. The Requirements Engineering Phase Within A Software...
The requirements engineering phase within a software project is a heavily
knowledge driven, collaborative process that typically involves the analysis and
creation of a large number of textual artifacts. We know that requirements engineering
has a large impact on the success of a project, semantic recommender support,
especially for stakeholders during requirementelicitation is still lacking.
This paper proposes an approach for recommendation systems that enable semantic
interoperability with content base filtering technique to manage stakeholders
requirements, avoiding analysts to receive incompatible requirements. This ensures
them that the received requirements are trusted, completed and compatible with each
other. This may prevent analysts from effort loads that they always get stacked in
during requirement elicitation process. The study incorporates ontology for
enhancing user profiles that are mapped to ontology concepts, and thus utilize
ontology relations to present more fine grain recommended concepts for enhancing
requirements.
Keywords requirment elicitation; requirment engineering; recommendation
system;semantic recommender system, ontolgical base requirment engineering.

6. The Life of Saint Anthony
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other
person than St. Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored
all areas where St. Anthony was modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this
essay states that classical genres to which St. Athanasius modelled the Life of St.
Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures.
Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these
models. To this end, this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed
to these models. One of the first ways St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius
model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26).
Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his
parents. The death of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and
taking care of the vast property that belonged to the family.
However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on
stepping into the church, he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read
instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and sell of his property and distribute
the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the Gospel was meant
for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the
property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church
again and after listening to the Gospel again, he said he
7. Reflection Paper On My Writing Process
Reflective Memo
Description of my Writing Process
In my writing process, pre writing was my initial step where I had to find the
narrative to write. I had numerous stories in my mind, but I had to get the best, which
draws inspiration to me, and the one that could teach valuable lessons to my audience.
So, I had to refer from that childhood memory regarding the most significant
narrative. However, I had to build up on the story. Therefore, I had to use the myth
worksheet issued at class, to make sure that my story meets all the course
requirements. Apparently, I had to make some changes (revise) the narrative, to
deliver the most intended life lesson to my audience. That is when I decided to plan
and structure on what to write down in particular.
The actual writing was my second step, where I had to start writing my draft.
However, I had several challenges at this phase, such as word count, grammar issues,
among others. Apparently, I had to write several rough copies of my narrative. Again,
I had to get the best time and location to eliminate any potential distractions. In fact,
at this stage, I had no confidence with my narrative on whether it will convey a
relevant meaning to my audience.
But now the writing process was advancing well, and I started revising my paper.
When revising my narrative, I had to adapt A.R.R.R.R approach where, I had to add
some words, rearrange my paragraphs and sentences to consider flow, pacing, and
sequencing of my story. Again, I had to remove the irrelevant parts, considering
whether the reader will acquire the required message. Finally, replacing them with the
relevant words and phrases.
My final step was editing and proofreading. At this phase, I had to check for clarity,
grammar, repetition, punctuation, and spelling. Editing and proofreading were
detailed processes since they were the last step in my writing process. At this
moment, I had gained confidence in my paper, since I had read it several times,
affirming that it made some sense. Furthermore, I gave it to my friend who is a
professional to proofread, and he assured me that the paper was sensible.
Revising the Narrative
Apparently, I had to review my story to convey the message swiftly. In the initial
story,

organization. Provide a brief description of why these elements have been identified
as critical to TCO. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is framework for understand the
hidden costs and benefits of technology that may not necessary be apparent in the
initial expense procuring certain technical solutions (Hockel Hamilton, 2011). An
example may be upgrade costs associated with acquiring a new computer. The initial
pricing for the computer may be apparent, but the future costs that will be incurred to
improve the unit or make more robust and proficient must also be considered.
Administrative elements within our organization include training, support and
maintenance. Training is critical in consideration of TCO because if not accounted
for correctly and provided, end users are more likely to resist changes to new
systems, platforms and, slowing adoption of a new solution and adversely impacting
productivity (Hockel Hamilton, 2011). General support is a critical part of TCO
because unexpected needs may arise that can jeopardize performance of solutions.
For instance, system downtime can negatively impact the bottom line of the business.

In her work, Butler examines earlier forms of feminism and their frequent use of
social constructions of binary gender ideals. Butler maintains her argument that
feminists in particular should abandon this idea of sharing this universal common
gender identity (Seidman, 216). Butler is very critical of this perspective because she
finds that it undermines the experiences of all women and generalizes them into one
cohesive experience. In this sense, feminism is essentially reinforcing binary gender
ideals by feminists identifying themselves solely as women they are only
perpetuating social productions of gender that have been constructed through a male
dominated context. Although feminism is uniting women through this sense of
sharing a common identity that distinguishes them from their male counter part, it
also however, misinterprets and generalizes the experiences of women while
simultaneously excluding and discrediting other women. Evidently, according to
Butler s argument abiding by a unitary gender identity, rejects any other sexuality
and regards them as deviant and improper to the norm. (Seidman, 217). It is often
difficult to abandon such universal ideals especially because of how deeply and
successfully they have integrated into modern day society. This idea of perceiving
men and women as two distinctive and opposite types of

decreased and commodity prices began to dwindle. In addition, 7,675 refugees

Guiding the nations monetary systems rests in the hands of the Central Bank of

Australia serves to oversee and stabilize the countries economic prosperity, welfare

14. Food Insecurity
Food insecurity is a big problem, but to understand, decrease, and solve it some big
questions need to be asked, answered, and talked about. These questions include:
Who does it affect and why? What s happening locally to help alleviate the problem?
And, what are the best solutions? This hunger problem has been around too long and
the time to solve it is now. MANNA, a local food bank, is dedicated to solving food
insecurity in Western North Carolina by keeping food pantries supplied and ready to
serve the population in need.
Need
Hunger and food insecurity are big problems in America and all around the world.
To understand food insecurity, one must know how it is defined. Food insecurity
is defined by the United States Department of Agriculture as a lack of consistent
access to enough food for an active, healthy life. (What 1) Hunger is not a new
problem in America, and though the problem is still prevalent, the food insecurity
rate among most Americans has decreased in recent years because of economic
boosts (WorldHunger.org). Even though the economic boost has helped alleviate the
overall problem, the increased expectations for how people spend their money and
live their lives as consumers can also contribute to food insecurity. Some of the
reasons that an individual or family would be food insecure are car repairs, medical
bills, loss of income or other emergencies.(Valentine 1)

Introduction
The independence of Scotland, a current affair and highly interesting topic. In this
paper I will not be discussing the current political arrangements between Scotland
and England nor will I be discussing what can be expected of the true separation of
Scotland from the U.K. in the future. In this paper I will research what led up to the
citizens of Scotland to feel so culturally different from the rest of the U.K. Why they
do not want to be a completely united country anymore. I will look at the different
aspects that define a country and its citizens. Look into the political system, language,
border lines, history and traditions from both Scotland and England. After looking
into this matter I will decide whether I would vote for or against the independence of
Scotland and why.

task of scholarship is to develop objective, unbiased tools of science to measure these

an inevitable outcome of rejecting a positivist science(Collins, 80). Collin comments
about how each group had their own separate ideas, and both ideas are valid and
important to the construction of the truth, but relativism contradicts scientific
ideologies of objectivity. Collins states that As epistemological stances, both positivist
science and relativism minimize the importance of specific location

In Marie Lu s dystopian book Legend, there are a wide variety of characters with
varying and backgrounds. Although the tale follows the lives of young girl June and
outlaw Daniel (nicknamed Day), many side characters are also introduced and
developed throughout the course of the book. All of these characters possess
interesting names that enhance the plot in certain ways, and while most of the
characters names fit them, some do not.
To begin with, the name of the main character June refers to the month of the same
name, which in turn was named for the Roman Goddess Juno. Furthermore, the
exact meaning of Juno is not fully known, but it may be related to an Indo European
root that translates to youth . Additionally, Juno was the queen of the heavens in
Roman mythology. She was also the protectress of women and marriage, as well as
the goddess of finance. June s name does a good job reflecting her personality, and
matches many of her actions during the novel. To begin with, June is rather young at
the point in time in which this story takes place, being about fifteen. However, the
protectress quality functions as the central plot point in the book. Although June does
not protect specifically women or marriage, she strongly believes in protecting what
is right, and the shift in what she perceives as right drives the main plot between her
and Day, as well as their connections to the Republic. At the beginning of the book,
June is completely loyal to the Republic. When she

An Immortal Soul: Why Dracula is the Most Famous Literary Vampire
The title character and antagonist of Bram Stoker s 1897 novel Dracula is an easily
recognizable character in the Western canon. Without ever reading the book or
watching any of the countless movie adaptations, people will craft vampire characters
with feelings and behaviors nearly identical to those of Dracula. However, Dracula s
success is not because it was the first novel of its kind. Vampiric literature had been
around for at least a century, and two works, Varney the Vampire and Carmilla, were
popular at the time of Dracula s publication. Why has Dracula become the
stereotypical vampire figure when there are other well rounded characters of the

In their article, they compare and contrast the characters of Dracula and Carmilla.
Their argument emphasized the prototype theory, which can explain why some
figures are more important than others in tropes. Carmilla is less thought of a
prototypical vampire because she is unfathomably beautiful by human standards, is
only able to become animalistic by turning into a panther, and valued sexual
intimacy over blood. Dracula is the target in a monster slaying narrative, a plot that
fosters more creativity. Audiences were intrigued by a story where humans kill
monsters instead of the other way around. Dracula became more famous than
Carmilla and its other predecessors because the former was one of the first books to
conform to the plot of monster hunting narratives, and because humans are afraid of
ugly, nefarious beings (par. 6 7, 13 14 ). A critic may, however, use their own
perspective to counteract the argument about why Dracula is a better monster. Fans
of other classic vampiric figures would be swift in defending their beloved characters
if such a situation arose.
Le Fanu s Carmilla, unfortunately, does not get the recognition it deserves. The
book has many adaptations as does Dracula, but is not as universally recognizable.
It can be argued as a more enjoyable text using the same explanations Saler and
Ziegler used to denounce it. While Carmilla is not the prototype for all vampires, she

Technology and its impact on Retail stores The owner of a top retailer wants to see
which merchandise is selling which isn t, or maybe the owner wants to know their
overall margin costs in relationship in to which products on their shelves are more
profitable then the others. In the not so distant past these types of reports would
have required a lot of people, processing large amounts of data, and requiring
lengthy delays in the results from weeks to even months. In the end, by the time the
data was of any use it would have been out dated. In today s markets, such retailer s
like Target rely on technology. With the current economy, and the number of business

accounted for 20% of the companies sales. In 2005, Wal mart reported $312
billion in sales, more than 6,000 facilities world wide, of which approximately 3800
were in the United States alone, and currently employing about 2.1million associates
world wide. When you re talking about world domination, Wal mart comes pretty
close. Currently serving 100 million weekly customers, is difficult fathom this many
people, but to put it in perspective this is equivalent to a third of the United States
total population. Also, of interest is the target demographic of the Wal mart
clientele. The average US Wal Mart customer s income is below the national
average, and analysts recently estimated that more than one fifth of them lack a bank
account, which is twice the national rate. A Wal Mart financial report in 2006 also
indicated that Wal Mart customers are sensitive to higher utility costs and gas prices.
Therefore, strategically placing stores in low to poverty stricken demographic areas,
Wal mart has capitalized its position by being conveniently located for those
customers who have limited resources or the ability to travel to a other stores. With
Wal mart target clientele being on a limited financial means, the

The Glass Roses
Day to day, people attempt to live unconstrained by convention or circumstance.
Often the people around us hold us back from thinking and feeling the way we
truly do; However, there will come a time when we will need to say what we truly
believe. In this story, The Glass Roses , the main character, Stephen, is faced with the
issue regarding his father, a real man . When faced with his father telling him how to
live and what to believe. Stephen is a young man working with his father and several
other men as pulp cutters. These men barely talk and they spend the time they aren t

Stephen then begins to define his own personal beliefs and how he thinks it is like
to live his life as a man. Because of Leka, Stephen is no longer fearful of accepting
the beauty the world has within and Stephens thoughts are now in a whole new light.
Stephen s father begins to notice all the time his son and Leka spend together
talking, laughing, and enjoying each other s company and so do the other pulp
cutters. They make ridiculous assumptions as to why Stephen and Leka spend so
much time together, and they judge Leka, saying he is odd and has weird
intentions just because he s from another country. Stephen s father orders his son
to quit spending time with and talking to Leka because of the embarrassment it is
causing him. At this moment Stephen feels scared and pressured by his father to
obey because he is his father after all, and in the end he is convinced to distance
himself from Leka. Although Stephen makes this decision that appears to show he
s reverted to his old ways and beliefs of his father, we are given hope as we see
Stephen still cares enough to wake Leka from a nightmare. Stephen grew up
surrounded by men who believed they needed to be strong and fearless to be the
best men they could be. He adopted these beliefs as his own because he didn t know
any better. When Leka began sharing his stories, Stephen was exposed to
22. Comparative Essay Comparing Ovid And Hesiod
In the works of Greek and Roman literature many aspects of their writings are
similar. For example, in both Greek and Roman literature universality is stressed
which means that we are only moved by the fall of the heroes in their plays
because we can relate to their situations and project ourselves into similar
circumstances. I believe that is completely true, only through the fall of our heroes
we see ourselves in the characters. Before their downfalls, we don t see us in them
because they seem basically perfect. Since none of us are perfect it is only when
they make mistakes leading to their downfall we see that the heroes are like us. Not
only are Greek and Roman literature alike in the way that their stories end but also by
the way that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although they are different and have unique components that make them unique
in their own way, they do share many similarities. Hesiod came before Ovid which
means, it would be accurate to say that Ovid may have been inspired by some of
Hesiod s work. In both creation myths, we can see Jupiter/Zeus punishing man for
various acts. In the stories of Ovid and Hesiod they act spiteful towards mankind
showing how he may have taken some ideas from Hesiod s previously written
stories. There are many aspects of Greek and Roman literature that are similar, but
there are also lots of ways that show that their literature differs. For example, there
are very different takes on their mythologies like in Greek mythology the afterlife is
not stressed as important while in Roman mythology the afterlife is very important.
Another example that shows how Greek and Roman literature are different is how
they have different is how they have different named Gods and Goddesses of the
same domain. Such as the God of Love in Greek literature is Eros while the God of
love in Roman literature is

Happy Birthday! It was October 2, 1957 and the day I became a teenager. I didn t
have much of a worry in the world and really only cared if the surf was up and
whether my favorite song, All Shook Up by Elvis Presley would become a gold
record. Little did I know, but it would be a day that would change my life and world.
It would be infamously known as the day the Soviet Unionsuccessfully launched
Sputnik. Looking back, I realize it not only scripted my mentality but America s
mentality for the 1960 s. My family gathered on the deck to see Sputnik. We didn t
see Sputnik in the night sky but it was more what we felt in the air; hurt pride. But
I also felt like it was the beginning of a great competition, one that I would have the
privilege of competing in. I grew up in an environment of competition with three
older brothers in Cocoa Beach Florida. I would often walk to the beach or sit on
our deck with my brothers to watch the rocket launches from the launch pad in
Cape Canaveral. Then we would go and launch our model rockets on our street. We
would look forward to the weekend cookouts in which our neighborhood gathered to
launch model rockets. The majority of our neighbors worked at the Cape Canaveral
Air Force station and would relate to us kids how the V 2 rocket projects were going,
then they would tell us when the next launch would happen so we could watch it. A
few months after the launch of Sputnik my family was anxiously awaiting the launch

25. Summary Of The Sludge
In the article, The Sludge at the Bottom of the Sea, author Damiano Marchetti
explains where human waste is going once it leaves the sewers of New York City s
streets. The authors main claim is human waste being dumped into the Atlantic Ocean
and how it has affected activity down on the sea floor. Marchetti continues on about
how the EPC told environmentalists not to worry about the sludge, because it wouldn
t affect the ocean since it cannot reach the bottom. And lastly the author finishes up
by stating how the incoming wastehas increased the food production on the sea floor.
Moreover, New York began loading up human waste and disposing it into the Atlantic
Ocean. They found no reason to believe there was a problem with dumping poop into

There was a team, which consisted of ecologists, bacteriologists, biologists, chemists,
and ecologists, who took part on this adventure to prove the EPC wrong. After
searching and collecting data, they soon found that the sludge had affected the ocean.
Finding it settled meters down, while leaving a vast footprint covering the area. To
end this destruction of the sea creatures home, the congress had been notified of the
effects of the sludge. Immediately a stop was put to the disposal of sludge into the
water, but the sludge that had been dumped previously was still out there.
On the contrary, the waste was said to had doubled the amount of food on the sea
floor by doubling the amount of carbon. As a result, to this massive amount of
carbon, animals that feed on organic matter rushed into this carbon rich environment
and began multiplying. After seeing this take place, the ecologists who attended to
expedition, said that some animals may love the human waste being there.
The waste was thought to be affecting the sea animal s food chain, but after some
deep searching it was soon realized that some of the smallest surface deposit
feeders may have loved it. Wondering where does the human waste go after it has
left the sewers is not uncommon, especially since it cannot just pile up down there.
But the disposal of sludge into vast areas like the ocean can cause environmentalists
to have an uproar. So where should we be disposing of this
26. Boy Gas Lift Case Study
Well economics were viewed to assess and justify a poor boy gas lift/ plunger lift
install on the potential candidate. WI and NRI were taken into account as well. It
was found that TRE maintains a 93.1 % WI on the plunger candidate with a NRI
of 69.8 %. The NRI to WI ratio is found to be 75 %. Common NRI/WI ratios range
from 75% to 87.5%, so this well would fall at the lower end of the spectrum. The
candidate well has a lot of problems with salt. It is the only well with a packer in
the area so water and soap cannot be pumped down the backside under current
conditions, however, the packer is removable. Field operators are hesitant to apply

The well (BOE 16 16) is deep and it is thought that the plunger will need extra
assistance to operate properly. It is important to note that there is a high pressure
line next to the well. The current set up will allow for an easier and cheaper poor
boy gas lift installation. In addition, a poor boy gas lift system will allow chemical
and foamer injection into the well as needed. These injections would help correct
the salt build up issues that the candidate well experiences. The idea is to try a
poor boy gas lift before installing a plunger lift. This may be a case where a plunger
lift is not needed in conjunction with a poor boy gas lift. Judging from Cygnet and
discussions with field personnel, swabbing typically occurs every couple of weeks
on the plunger candidate but has decreased to once a month since March of 2015. See
Fig. 1 for current Cygnet data. The current cost for swabbing this well is about $4,000
monthly. Additionally, the well is offline and not producing during these treatment
and swabbing periods, which amounts to 1 3 days per month. Cygnet analytics
suggest shut in times of 24 to 72 hours each time swabbing occurs. Each time shut ins
occur on the candidate the field operations say that it becomes harder to get the well
started again. It is thought that these issues further compound the monthly cost of
maintaining this well at its current

Looking back, it is clear now that hypnosis has been around for many centuries and
the use of hypnotic states can be traced back to Shamans or Witch Doctors. In the
1700 s Franz Anton Mesmer produced his theory of animal magnetism in which he
believed healing forces could be transferred through cosmic fluid there is no
evidence to support the transfer of the healing energies devised by Mesmer but his
success rate was high which lead to his patients being described as mesmerized and

Once hypnotised suggestion can be used to present a range of physical responses
including the slowing of breathing and heart rate, desensitisation of limbs and
changes in body temperature as well as response to other external stimuli. Often
during a hypnotic induction, the subject will be encouraged to disregard external
sounds and smells or to simply allow them to further assist with the relaxation and
journey into the subconscious. I myself have experienced a complete loss of
awareness of external sounds during hypnosis missing an entire firework display
outside the window of the room in which I was being treated.
Module 1 (1.4) Explain the role of relaxation in hypnotherapy.
As mentioned above hypnosis can provide a feeling of deep relaxation and
revitalisation but to be successful it must begin with relaxation. Life is busy!
Whilst in our busy lives we may drift in and out of a natural trance state, to support
effective therapeutic change it is essential to enter the trance calm and relaxed and
free from the burdens of tension and stress that people often carry with them. This is
most often achieved through the use of a Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR).
The PMR can be delivered in the form of a screed or script guiding the subject
through their body releasing the tension in the muscles.
28. The Power Of Love By Huey Louis
Title: Identity When I was about three or four, my parents had both their church
and my grandparent s church pray over me. My mother is fond of telling this story
to me because we re a religious family, and she says that it sets up a good example
of what prayer can really do. She told me that most of the congregation had laid
their hands on me, one by one, to pray that God would change me into a more kind
and loving child. Whenever I think back on that particular story, the song The Power
of Love sung by Huey Louis, always runs through my mind, and reminds of the
power of love my family had for me.
During this time, we were living in Detroit, Michigan. As a kid, none of my
siblings ever wanted to play with me or include me in any of their games. I was a
self centered, vindictive, stubborn child who always had to have things done my
way. At that time if I didn t get what I wanted, then anybody in my way had better
watch out. I truly was a horrid child. I didn t have any friends because I was too
young to go to school and we weren t allowed outside the house unless we had an
adult with us. And even then we were extremely cautious, due to the infamous city
we lived in. So the only people I really had any contact with or influence from, was
from my family. By the time I was six we had moved to Texas, and I was enrolled
in a private school, and made friends very easily there, considering I never had the
opportunity to in Detroit. I think being in a school surrounded by
29. La Horde Movie Analysis
La Horde is a film that I ve been looking at for a while, but negative reviews have
kept me at bay. Something I m a little ashamed about because despite a handful of
obvious flaws, La Horde is a Zombie flick that does an admiral job keep its head
above water. La Horde would have done better at this if they had chucked off the
more annoying characters, rather than make them front and center. But I ll complain
about that later. The idea behind the filmis great and the zombies really add to the
film, over being just fodder.
The film opens with officers Ouessem (Jean Pierre Martins), Tony (Antoine
Oppenheim), Aurore (Claude Perron), and Jimenez (Aurelien Recoing) going rogue
assaulting an abandoned apartment complex to kill local drug dealer Adewale (Eriq
Ebouaney) for the murder of a fellow officer. When they arrive to his door their

Small groups cut off from outside help are forced to fight off overwhelming odds
and since the films are all the same principle. It s the characters and their
motivations that make the film work... or don t. As is the case here, as most of the
characters are simply awful. But luckily Rene is in this film for a long portion and
Yves Pignot really makes all the scenes he s in work.
I liked the derelict apartment complex... which is more a tower than a complex now
that I think about it. It provides a great backdrop and the poor tentents that remained
after the building was condemned add a great deal of character to the otherwise drab
backdrop.
The zombies are, well zombies. Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher (the films
directors) didn t try to reinvent the wheel here. My only issue is are the characters in
this film the only people left? Because I cant but help think that there are a lot of
zombies in an abandoned part of town. I mean this is hours into the zombie
apocalypse

the Renaissance. He was born in Florence, Italy in 1377a.d though the exact of his
birth is still unknown. He died April 15, 1446a.d, yet the whereabouts of his death is

A decision was made to reject the traditional Gothic buttresses design, in order to re
intergrade with the classical Mediterranean dome. This architectural decision was one
of the first events of the Italian Renaissance. However this decision was extremely
contradictory to popular ideas and wants. The construction of such a masonry (stone)
dome posed many technical problems.
As earlier stated, Filippo s took inspiration from his trip to Rome in order to design
his ideal Dome, more specifically in fact he took motivation from the magnificent
dome of the Pantheon in Rome for solutions. Pantheon s dome consisted of a single
shell of concrete the formula which had long been ignored. The dome needed his
engineering skills as well as his vision; Filippo invented and patented a new hoisting

Treaty of Versailles: Historical Context Ninety eight years ago, after the fighting of
World War I subsided, the Treaty of Versailles ( the Treaty ) was signed at the
Palace of Versailles in France by the Allied powers and Germany. The compromise
of the Treaty is that it ended World War I. The conflict of the Treaty is that it fed
the German s hate for the Allied Powers and, in turn, was the cause of World War
II. In their hearts was a stern resolution that the fiasco of November 11, 1918,
would not be repeated for all serious people in America, as in all nations, remembered

32. Social Research On Natural Disasters And The Disaster
Kathleen Tierney s article explains the ways in which social research on natural
disasters came to be and how it is currently at the threshold of much needed
evolution. Beginning during the Cold War, research on natural disasters began to
take place. The US government and military leaders were concerned on how the
public would react during times of social crisis, particularly during the event of a
nuclear strike. Government and military officials were concerned about possible
panic and the breakdown of society. They wondered if citizens would rise to the
occasion and help in recovery efforts, or if they would become unstable and
destructive in their response to sociological breakdowns. While much researchhad
already been done during World War II, it was believed that more research was
necessary to establish a clearer idea of how citizens would react in the face of social
upheaval. To provide these answers, officials believed that they could evaluate the
aftermath of natural disasters. Funders of such potential research believed that
...natural and technological disasters provided useful laboratories for studying social
behavior under conditions of large scale physical destruction and social disruption
(Tierney, 2007, p. 504).
Stemming from the need of this information came the creation of various research
centers such as the DRC, or the Disaster Research Center. One of the Founders of
the DRC was E. L. Quarantelli, who was highly influenced by ...research traditions
in collective behavior and symbolic interactionism (Tierney, 2007, p. 504). Two
other founders of the DRC, Russell Dynes and J. Euguene Haas, were
...organizational researchers (Tierney, 2007, p. 504). The influence of the founders
of the DRC enabled many studies to be conducted on the ways society handled
natural disasters. The DRC was focused on conducting studies that were more
qualitive than quantitative, meaning they were more focused on observational
studies that included interviews, field observations, and the collection of archival
materials than on traditional surveys and statistics (Tierney, 2007, p. 505). These
approaches allowed researchers to go into the field and conduct studies on various
types of social crises. Research was

author of the popular saga, majored in English literature at Brigham Young
University. After graduating in 1997, Meyer chose to be a stay at home mother to
her three sons. The concept of the whole saga came to her in a dream one night.

No one besides her sister knew that she was writing a novel, little known at the time,
but the masterpiece known as Twilight. Since Meyer is a mother of three, and is busy
with her kids needs and wants all day, she would take time late at night to work on
writing her novel. And in three short months, she completed Twilight, regardless of
her insignificant amount of experience in writing. In all four works, Bella Swan in the
protagonist. The story is centered around her life. All four books are written in her
perspective. Meyer usually tends to write all her stories as first person narratives,
including books that are not related to the Twilight Saga like The Host. When
Meyer writes, she becomes completely engrossed in the characters. The main
reason why she writes is because of the characters she creates. She envisions them
in her brain. She talks to them all day, and they talk back. Coming up with the
perfect names for the two main characters was a very tough process. She wanted a
name that was popular decades ago, but at the same time, she wanted a name that
was romantic for the vampire. Since Meyer grew up reading Charlotte Bronte and
Jane Austen, she used the characters Mr. Ferrars and Mr. Rochester from their
works as an inspiration; thus leading her to choose the name Edward. After coming
up with the names for the twosome, and was still in the process of creating their
story, they would constantly talk to her. She heard their voices all day, so Meyer

34. Why Cell Phones Should Not Be Allowed In Summer Camps
Cell phones can be an exciting way to communicate with others; however, there are
certain times and places where they should not be permitted. Do you think summer
camp is one of the places a teen should be permitted to carry a cell phone with
them? Teens should not be permitted to have access to cell phones during summer
camps, as a cell phone can distract them from staying engaged. For instance, teens
can lose interest in making friends and doing activities, since they will be texting
friends from home or spending time on social media. If a teen does not bring his or
her cell phone to summer camp, they will be attentive and appreciate what is actually
occurring in real life.
First, a cell phone should not be permitted at summer camp since it can inhibit a
teen s social interaction. According to journalist Regan McMahon, she states that
You ve sent your son or daughter off for a new experience, and for a reason. Having
your kids spend time with their fellow campers rather than texting friends back home
will ensure a more valuable camp experience (Common Sense). Furthermore, when a
teen brings a cell phone to summer camp, they risk missing out on group activities
and making new friends. Louis Bordman, senior director of the Eisner Camp ... Show

36. Blood Glucose Research Paper
Blood glucose levels and their regulation can be influenced by alcohol (ethanol)
consumption. Although consuming alcohol can initially create a rise in blood
glucose levels because of its carbohydrate content, excessive alcohol consumption
can cause blood glucose levels to drop to dangerously low levels. When alcohol is
consumed, it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream from the stomach and
intestines; and then travels to the liver to be metabolised. Liver cells contain
enzymes which metabolise the alcohol; they break down the alcohol into other
chemicals which are in turn broken down into water and carbon dioxide. These are
then excreted from the body in the urine and from the lungs. The liver can process
only a certain amount of alcohol per... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if blood glucose levels rise too steeply, there can be an overproduction of
insulin; which lowers blood glucose levels excessively below the set point. Because
alcohol is toxic and there is no way to store alcohol in the body, it must be
metabolised as quickly as possible. This means that the liver must prioritise
metabolising the alcohol over any other tasks; including regulating blood glucose
levels. Although the liver usually releases glucose into the bloodstream (from its
stored glycogen) when blood glucose levels fall below the set point; while there is
alcohol in the blood it has less capacity to do this. This results in hypoglycemia.
Long term consumption of large amounts of alcohol damages the liver and can lead
to liver disease, which interferes with many aspects of metabolism including
metabolism of glucose. In frequent drinkers the body can also become less sensitive
to insulin; meaning muscle, liver and fat cells will not respond effectively to insulin.
This can lead to long term

39. The Bridge on the River Kwai
The film I have chosen for my 1950 s film analysis is The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Directed by David Lean, The Bridge on the River Kwai follows a battalion of British
soldiers who find themselves trapped in a Japanese POW camp during WWII in
1943. The British soldieries are led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is
ordered by the commandant of the POW camp, Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa), to
build a railroad bridge over the Burmese river Kwai.
Colonel Nicholson refuses to help build the bridge based on the fact that the Geneva
Convention strictly forbids using officers as laborers. After a lengthy battle of wills
between Saito and Nicholson, Saito, realizing that the bridge will never be completed

I agree with the majority of critics that the film is very good even compared to
more modern war films such as Lone Survivor. Like Lone Survivor the genius of
The Bridge on the River Kwai is that it focuses on the individual soldiers and their
struggles not on the war itself. This allows you to empathize with the characters; even
the Japanese soldiers who run the camp.
Nicholson and Saito encompass the values that a solider and a man should have
specifically duty, honor, purpose, and loyalty. Saito has a duty to complete the
bridge while Nicholson has a duty to ensure the survival of his men. Honor is best
displayed by Saito who is prepared to kill himself if the bridge isn t completed on
time as missing his deadline would dishonor him. According to the code of Bushido,
which Saito and the Japanese subscribe to, the righteous thing to do when you
dishonor yourself is to kill yourself. Purpose is shown by Nicholson when he states
to Saito There are times when suddenly you realize you re nearer the end than the
beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life
represents. For Nicholson the one physical thing that gives his life meaning, that
represents him, is the bridge. By completing the bridge he proves to himself and
everyone else that his life had purpose; that he accomplished something meaningful.
The final value displayed is loyalty.

Who...
Purpose
The Book of Judges bares witness to the simpleness of humans and sets forth God
s mercy, compassion, longsuffering, patience and love for His people no matter
how depraved they may be. Along with the aforementioned purposes, one of the
main aims of Judges was to demonstrate divine judgment of the apostasy of Israel.
Israel s continual disobedience to God and worship of Canaanite gods resulted in
their failure to experience divine blessing in the full conquest of her enemies.
Canaanite influence in moral and social areas lead to the apostasy and anarchy of
Israel. Therefore, the oppressors pictured and the powers of this world sought and
still seek to bring people into bondage. Judges acts as a warning to those who turn
away from God to idol worship.
Author
Though the author of the Book of Judges in unknown, internal evidence suggests
that it was written during the early days of the monarchy after the coronation of
King Saul, but before the conquest of Jerusalem by king David. For example, the
phrase, there was no king in Israel, is repeated four times toward the end of the
book (Jdg 17:6; 18:1; 19:1; 21:25). It evidently looks backward to when Israel did
have a king. Secondly, in chapter one verse twenty one , we re told that the Jebusites
are still living in Jerusalem. Apparently, that must have been written before King
David s conquest to the city (2 Sam. 5:6 7). Lastly, the reference to Canaanites in
Gezer (Jdg 1:29) suggests a date before the time the

The People s Republic of China is a socialist country led by the working class, based
on the worker peasant alliance and practicing people s democratic centralism. The
socialist system is the primary system in China.
The Constitution
The Constitution is the fundamental law of the state. It usually stipulates a country s
social system and basic principles of state system, the basic principles of activities

citizens. Some constitutions also legalize the national flag, anthem, emblem, capital,

For example, the duties for the Standing Committee of National People s Congress
include interpreting the Constitution and supervising its enforcement, enacting and
amending laws with the exception of those which should be enacted by the NPC,
and report to the NPC on every piece relevant work.
The basic functions and powers of the NPC are to amend the Constitution, to
supervise the enforcement of the Constitution, to enact and amend basic laws
covering crucial matters, and to decide on the major national leaders. Strategic
development plans for the national economy and social affairs have been vital
towards advancing China s social progress. But these plans are only in effect after
approval from the NPC. The law in China stipulates the major state leaders, such as
the President and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, must be
nominated and elected by the NPC. The Premier of the State Council and Ministers of
the government must also be appointed by the NPC. The NPC can also remove the
elected Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, the President and the Premier through
lawful procedures.

The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is honoured to present an exhibition titled
Image and Text: A Feminist Narrative , with which it will be opening its door to the
public on the 12th September and closing on the 15th October. When image and text
are integrated with one another in the creation of contemporary art, artists are able to
produce powerful and extremely effective messages of their choice. However, just
because the image and text are displayed together, does not mean they relate to each
other, as the text can either support the image, or contradict the image in order to
demonstrate the transparency of either or both elements (Williams and Simpson,
1994). Two artists who have been able to incorporate image and text in their pieces
are, contemporary American artist, Barbara Kruger and contemporary Australian
artist, Jenny Watson. Here at GOMA were have created the Image and Text: A
Feminist Narrative to displays the provocative and stimulating ways Kruger and
Watson have used both text and image to convey personal, dream, socio political and
feminist narratives. Whilst Barbara Kruger is an American feminist whose work is
centred around critiquing advertising culture and the representation of women during
said advertising, Jenny Watson is an Australian feminist who uses expressive
figurative images and incorporates text panels similar to autobiographical diary
entries. The combination of these two artists display strong messages to their
audience, doing so in an

We stole, robbed and mugged people day in and day out. Life seemed so beautiful

44. The Argument Against The Naturalism s View Of God
The Holy Bible revealed to us that God is a symbol of goodness. He likes creating
good things. He declared each day work as good in His own sight. He finally
pronounced all His creation as being good and complimenting each other. Almighty
God forever, remains the highest good any human could seek and a standard to
measure goodness.
Against the naturalism s view of man is that Human beings are complex machines;
personality is an interrelation of chemical and physical properties we do not yet fully
understand (Colorado Christian University, 2014). In the Bible, God revealed himself
as the creator of earth and created He man in His own image. God is the creator of
heaven and earth and all that dwells in it, including human, animals, nonliving
45. Taking a Look at Impulse Buying
The American Marketing Association defines impulse buying as a purchase made
without planning. Frequently, the purchase is an emotional reaction to a
marketing stimulus the latter Centre. Impulse buying has been considered a
pervasive and distinctive phenomenon in the American lifestyle and has been
receiving increasing attention from consumer researchers and theorists (Youn
Faber, 2000, p.179) . Despite the negative aspects ofthe impulse buying behavior
from past research, defining impulsive behavior as anirrational behavior (Ainslie,
1975; Levy, 1976; Rook Fisher, 1995; Solnick,Kannenberg, Eckerman, Waller,
1980), resulting from a lack of behavioral control (Levy, 1976; Solnick et al.,
1980), resulting from a lack of behavioral control(Levy, 1976; Solnick et al., 1980),
impulse purchases account for substantial sales acrossa broad range of product
categories (Bellenger at al, 1978; Cobb Hoyer, 1986; Han,Morgan, Kotsiopulos,
Kang Park, 1991; Kollat Willet, 1967; Rook Fisher, 1995;Weinberg Gottwald,
1982). A study found that impulse purchases represented between 27% and 62% of
all department store purchases (Bellenger et al., 1978). Rook and Hoch (1985)
assert that most people have experienced an impulse purchase. Other research
findings support this assertion revealing almost 90% of respondents have made
grocery purchases on impulse occasionally (Welles, 1986), and between 30% and
50% of all purchases can be classified by the buyers themselves as

Juveniles and the Death Penalty
Today, minors are using their age as a shield against capital punishment.
Adolescents believe that since they are not eighteen they will not be punished for
the crimes they commit. The death penalty is appropriate for juveniles in certain
circumstances, such as murder and brutal crimes that are considered capital
offenses. The rate at which the death penalty is carried out, as well as inconstancies
in sentencing does not make it a deterrent. There should not be an age limit in all
capital offenses for those who could face the death penalty. Adolescents should know
what he or she are doing is wrong, and is a crime. An age limits does ... Show more

The vote was 5 3, Justice Kentucky not participating, and the fifth vote was cast by
Justice O Connor, who concurred only because Oklahoma capital punishment law
specified no minimum age. In Stanford, O Connor and Kennedy supported the
death penalty for defendants who were 16 or 17 years old at the time of the crime,
and the four justices who had written the lead opinion in Thompson dissented
(Latzer, Barry). Since juveniles are beginning to get more violent in their acts,
should the age be lowered? If a look is taken at the juvenile criminal statistics today
and compare to twenty years ago, a dramatic decrease would be seen in violent
crime and an increased use of death penalty sentences. For example, Professor Victor
Strieb stated juveniles are one to two percent of all people on death row in the United
States. Throughout the history of juveniles sentenced to death, the rate has been
steady because it has fluctuated more than five percent. The history of the death
penalty for juveniles began around 1642 with the execution of Thomas Graunger.
Thomas Graunger was executed in Plymouth Colony Massachusetts for a crime he
committed when he was sixteen years old. He was the first recorded juvenile in what
for offenses committed under the age of eighteen (Randa, Laura E.). There were 343
executions of juveniles before the Supreme Court repealed the death penalty.
Therefore, what keeps the juvenile from assuming the responsibilities for his
