Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment
For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab
period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was
there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer
as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was
instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer
reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip
from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near
the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling
the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table.
Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident.
During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density
and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the
pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty
trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial
numbers were short of our goal of finishing all of the trials for both turbulent laminar for that day
because of the accident

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Negotiation
Negotiation could be seen in any aspects, any activities of our real life. Negotiations happen
when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of
negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do
that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our
counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self
assessment is the first and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is
exploring my past experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing
so. As mentioned earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can
negotiate at home, in our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. The
participants, the interests, the motivations of each party vary from case to case. Sometimes we
have time to prepare for the negotiation, sometimes we are just pushed to do it. Sometimes you are
totally aware that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I acknowledge that I have got a lot of weaknesses in negotiation. More specifically, I often
conduct negotiation without collecting sufficient information about the situation and developing
a clear negotiation strategy. Let me take my aforementioned annual salary review as an example.
I did not fully understand our company s salary review policy (actually, the top executives tried
to complicate the salary policy and was not transparent about it). Besides, I did not carefully
consider the timing of the negotiation, or to which level of salary increase could my boss make
decisions and to which level he had to get his superiors approvals. Consequently, I did not know
what and how to talk with my boss about this topic in an effective manner. I just let my boss to
decide my salary increase on his own and no negotiation was

Immanuel Kant And Kant On Morality
The general definition of morality is the rules for right action and prohibitions against wrong acts.
Sometimes morality is the single set of absolute rules and prohibitions that are valid for all men
at all times and all societies. More loosely, a morality can be any set of ultimate principles, and
there may be any number of moralities in different societies. Examples would be don t cheat, don t
steal, and treat others as you would want to be treated. When dealing with the philosophers take on
morality, there are two which are usually compared to one another, Immanuel Kantand David
Hume. Immanuel Kant had many theories throughout his philosophical time. Here are some of
his ethical works, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), the Critique of Practical
Reason (1788), and the Metaphysics of Morals (1797), which contains both the Doctrine of Right
and the Doctrine of Virtue. He also had some other works of importance to his moral philosophy
including the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790), Religion within the Boundaries of Mere
Reason (1793), and Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View (1798). Here are some of
Hume s main ethical writings, A Treatise on Human Nature (1739 40), especially books two and
three, and in An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (1751). Also relevant to Hume s ethics
are various essays, such as Of Suicide (1777), parts of An Enquiry Concerning Human
Understanding (1748), and his Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion

Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism
Creationism View
When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective
looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to
understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why
there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different
ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in
six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. While others know
as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall,
the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in
Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be
completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation:
plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to
their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced
vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow
faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against
Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7
8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God
planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every
beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and
formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that
it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire
connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within
just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth
Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more
plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were
over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours
would not make sense. (Old Earth

The Federal Bureau Of Investigations
Matt Fox Mr. Huggins U.S. History 21 November, 2014 The FBI The Federal Bureau of
Investigations was initially a group of secret agents created in 1908 by Attorney General
Charles Bonaparte. Bonaparte created the FBI under direction of 26th president, Theodore
Roosevelt. For the first couple of years, the amount of federal crimes was very low. The Bureau
spent most of their time investigating things such as national banking, bankruptcy,
naturalization, antitrust, peonage, and land fraud. In June of 1910, the FBI grew larger
because the Mann Act. The Mann Act made it a crime to transport women to other states for
immoral reasons such as what would be labeled as prostitution in modern terms. The FBI could
now prosecute people who tried to flee over states lines. Because of its continued worth and
effectiveness, the FBI s number grew to over 300 special agents and 300 support employees
over the next few years. (FBI. FBI, 08 May 2013. Web. 02 Nov. 2014) When The FBI first
started, it required little to know specific training. However, it was a group of undercover agents
at the time so there weren t very many kids who wanted to grow up and become something that
they have never even heard about. Today, however, there are a series of long and challenging
tests to become an FBI Agent. In order to qualify for the FBI s Academy in Quantico, Virginia,

I Am Responding To Question Number 2. “Retirement Is The
I am responding to question number 2. Retirement is the period of life, usually starting between age
60 and 65, during which an individual stops working in the paid labor force. (Lecture slides)
According to our text, the concept of retirement is a relatively recent phenomenon in Western
society. (Hooyman, Kawamoto, Kiyak. Aging Matters: An Introduction to Social Gerontology)
People used to work until they died, but people also used to die much earlier in their lives, so that
could partly explain why that was the case. Retirementalso used to be mandatory at age 65 for most
jobs, but people usually retired before then around age 60. The average American now (in 2013)

It is based on how much you paid into through taxes and not by your income. Social Security is
the major source of income for about 66% of older beneficiaries. For about 24% of beneficiaries
it provides 90% or more of their yearly income. (Study Guide) This is alarming because the
average yearly Social Security benefit in 2013 was about $14,144 a year or about $1179 per
month. (Study Guide) This might be a little hard to live comfortably from. Another form of
incentive was pensions and health insurance sponsered by employers. Pensions are usually offered
in white collar jobs. These are usually based on your earnings, unlike Social Security. The baby
boomer generation wasn t very lucky with how their hopes for retirement would be ruined. The
baby boomer generation thought they would have enough economic resources when they reached
retirement, and they thought if they did work in retirement, it wouldn t be because they had to.
This is not the case for the baby boomers due to global economic downturn and the recession.
Instead, they are more likely to put off retirement got financial reasons. In a 2011 survey, 25 percent

enough money to retire comfortably. (Hooyman, Kawamoto, Kiyak. Aging Matters: An

Should Quebec (or other provinces) Separate From Canada In Order To Best Protect
Its Constitutional Rights?
In my opinion, all provinces in Canada, including Quebec should not separate. Quebec has been
one of the provinces of Canada for a long period of time. Most people in the world view that it is
one of the component in Canada.
French Canadian and English Canadian seem to live together peacefully without conflict, even
many people with different cultures and languages come to Canada in recent years. I thick Quebec
has no reason to become independence from a multicultural nation.
Some people who agree Quebec to separate state that separation can protect their French culture and

Quebec separation is also a morality problem. In fact, it is part of Canada.
People in a nation are like brothers and sisters, they should help and protect each other. If Quebec
separates, it will act like one of the family members leave the family and no longer maintains his
last name. Nobody wishes to have this happens in his family.
Beside, identity of a nation is very important. It makes difference between country and country.
People in the world know that Canada is mainly formed by
French Canadian and English Canadian, and it has bilingual and muiltcultural culture. Most French
Canadian lives in Quebec. If Canada loses Quebec, the
French Canadian culture will surly be lost. If there is no French Canadian culture, then the identity
of bilingual will no longer need. Multiculturalism will no longer support by the French culture.
Canada will hurt a lot because it loses one of the most special identities.
Canada, including Quebec belong to every Canadian, not only the Quebecers.
Every Canadian should have the right to determine Quebec should leave or stay.
It is normal in a democratic country and government should respect to what the citizens say. In
Canada, only 22% of people agree that Quebec should separate, as well as 27% in Alberta. By
these percentages, we can see that most people disagree Quebec to separate. Moreover, 80%
people in Alberta oppose letting a separate Quebec use the Canadian money dollar, and 69% against
letting Quebecers

Case Study Of Senator Sanders
TAIWO OLADUNNI. The two potential reasons why Senator Sanders supports increasing top
tax rates is so as discourage greed which is broadly defined as extracting income at the expense
of the rest of the economy as opposed to real productive behavior. This plan would result in an all
in tax rate of over 65% on income between $500,000 and $2 million which would definitely push
rates near the revenue maximizing level. Mr. Sanders tends on counting on those high incomes to
generate the high receipts needed to fund his single payer health plan which is a problem. The other
reason is that higher taxrates on the highest earners can generate revenue to pay for new programs,

Benefits Of Companion Animals
Anatole France once said, Until one has loved an animal, a part of one s soul remains
unawakened. Everyone who has ever become fond of an animal knows how much one small
aspect of your life can impact so many things. I have a cat and I can honestly say I would not be
the person I am today without her. Unlike human connections, communication is more difficult
due to the fact that animals don t speak English; A simple glare or rub from an animal means a
million times more to most than a well constructed conversation between peers. Bonding with
companion animals will benefit your overall wellness. According to ASPCA, a companion
animal is a domestic animal that can safely interact with humans physically and emotionally
(Definition of Companion). This means they have been known to work with humans without
being a threat. Wild animals and hybrid mixes are not considered companion animals due to the
fact that they could be dangerous (Species Specific). Common household pets like guinea pigs,
fish, some reptiles, cats, dogs, and other mammals of a smaller size are examples of valid
companion animals; Horses and other farm animals bred specifically to be a companion animal
are also valid (Species Specific). Loneliness is an aspect of life everyone dreads feeling but cannot
suppress. Lacking love or even just a friend can cause unimaginable ache and heaviness. Humans
are social creatures so when they do not get the necessary interactions they feel empty in a sense.

An Age Of Mass Migration And International Terrorism
In an age of mass migration and international terrorism, the intersection of liberty and equality
while also pursuing domestic security and efficiency is a major concern. The ability to untangle
these forces is critical to national identities and to resolving contradictions between these
principles in order to strengthen the values of justice. The values of liberty, equality, security and
efficiency have different weights, but all of these have come to characterize the modern state,
have guided the formation of domestic public policy and continue to constitute the criteria by
which policy success is judged. This paper aims to outline the national policy objectives and the
value oriented solutions of societal problems like the ones mentioned above. Since September 11
2001, the type of terrorist attacks which have emerged have begun to have major ramifications on
how states are able to aspire to the ideals of liberty, equality, security and efficiency. States have
changed the way they conduct policy and focus on efforts to face the challenge of how efforts to
increase security may have curtailed citizens liberties (Haubrich, 400). The anti terrorismstrategies
and tactics that democratic states have employed in order to neutralize terrorist threats have varied
widely. Some have been reactive, others proactive or preventative. However, all measures have
been concerned about the trust citizens have in those in power and the legitimacy of their rule as
well as protecting

Holquest On Armenia
In Peter Holquest s The Politics and Practice of the Russian Occupation Armenia, he examines the
changes and goals of the Russian policies towards the Armenian community. Holquest begins to
explain that Russian policy towards Armenia during World War 1 was to dupe the Armenians. The
policy was to allow the Russians to use the Armenians against the Ottoman Turks; this was also a
means to annex Turkish Armenia. The policy remains unchanged from 1912 to early 1916; the
Russian government avoid any measures that might antagonize the Ottomans (3). The Russian
government began to realize that pressing reforms would antagonize the Ottomans and only cause
them to reject any sort of treaties or advice. As Turkey began to implement military operations
against in 1914, Russian looked at Armenians as allies and as an threat to the Ottomans. Nicholas II
proclaimed that a brilliant future awaits Armenia which was not entirely true due to anger under
tsarists rule. An interesting part of his writing is about colonization; Holquest tells the audience that
there were accounts that called for a Russian plan to prevent the return of Armenians (17). It came
from a memorandum which did not rely on Russian government s policy, but stems from the
Ministry of Agriculture s overarching agenda. The agenda was occupied lands and seek any means

The Importance Of Dual Professionalism
Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy
and Bank Managers were worthy of the title of being called a Professional . However they go on
to say that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are
describing themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term
becomes meaningless. That said, they do agree that a professional should hold a set of specific
skills and knowledge that are gained through a certain amount of training and should be used for
the benefit of society . Teachers, lecturers and trainers clearly fit within this remit. Scales (2008)
lists professionalism as one of the traits of an effective teacher. He goes on the say that
professionalism is multi faceted, citing the way teachers behave, look, the way interact with their
students, how they talk and how they prepare and plan their work all form what he believes
makes a professional. In education and training, teaching alone is not merely enough. To be seen
as being knowledgeable within a specialist area is also needed to be able to teach that subject and
therefore teachers in this area of education are seen as dual professionals. The Institute for
Learning (IFL) (2012) considers that Dual professionalism relates to many teachers within Further
Education, both as a Teacher and as a proficient and knowledgeable individual in their own subject
specialism. Machin et al (2017) go a step further

ISO compliance has become the gold standard for businesses. It is like wearing a badge of honor
that proclaims any company that wears it will ensure a minimum level of quality and safety for its
entire product line. Before the onset of ISO, quality between companies was difficult to maintain as
so many companies in different countries had varying degrees of quality control. A million
certificates earned, in 178 countries worldwide, demonstrates the impact of ISO on global trade.
The Benefits of International Standardization? Corporations that wish to become global
manufacturers, such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin, may be wary of quality control and safety
practices of a company it has never done business with. For operations managers, it should be
important to deliver safe and quality products as well as receive the same level of product from
other companies (Heizer Render, 2014). ISO did not exist pre 1947; therefore, trading between
companies posed a risk of poor quality goods. Without global standardization, one company s
definition of quality may be vastly different than another. The formation of ISO and its
standardization has created a certain level of confidence in global commerce. A company can
pledge its commitment to quality and safety by earning an ISO certification. Consequently, fewer
quality issues will result in increased productivity. According to ISO, it helps companies gain

My Learning Experience
In the last year, I have moved from New Jersey to New York to Iowa. Moving away from your

Moving multiple times for the same reason, hockey, can be mentally and physically tough, but the
outcome and experiences that you will encounter will make up for it. Moving is hard but can be
overcome and can be viewed as a learning experience. Being born and raised in New Jerseyhas
impacted my life in a very special way. From kindergarten through eighth grade, I was in the
same school called St. Paul s, which is located in Princeton. I made some amazing friends during
my time in middle school. During this time, I was playing hockey for a team called The Little
Flyers, which was just outside of Pennsylvania. We were a remarkable team that won many games
and championships over the years. The coach was a former player in the National Hockey League
named Stephane Charbonneau. He was a special coach who had exceptional advice and
knowledge of the game. Two days out of the week, when I did not have team practice, I would

Essay On The Sandman
The Sandman, A Hand crafted Nightmare A bedtime story is meant to guide children into a
peaceful sleep. That, however, is not the case when one talks about Paul Berry s The Sandman.
According to a friend of his, the late internationally respected animator Paul Berry started his
career in his home country the United Kingdom. There, he had worked on The Wind in The
Willows and The Fool of the World, done solely in stop motion. His Oscar nominated short The
Sandman placed his name onto the global stage and led him to many opportunities oversea,
including a position in Nightmare Before Christmas production team. Since its release in 1992,
The Sandman had become the recipient and winner of many film awards around the world
(Purves). With its story based on E.T.A. Hoffmenn s novella Der Sandmann (Willig), the magical
nighttime fairy is not what viewers typically know him for. A dark twist to a gentle bedtime story,

The Death Of A Great Deal
Once there was a man, wise, good looking, and overall extraordinarily successful. One might not
consider it when looking upon him, but he had suffered a great deal is his life thus far.
Everything was about to change yet again for him with the appearance of the instruments of his
oldest hardship. His brothers. As can be plainly seen, this is the life of Joseph, and at this point in
the narrative his brothers have just arrived on the scene. Backing up a tad, at the outset of Genesis
42, Jacobis admonishing his eleven sons to head to Egypt to buy food. They agree and all head to
Egypt save Benjamin, Joseph s only full blood brother. Benjamin did not make the trip because his
father worried excessively over him. They made it to Egypt and... Show more content on

This is a bit contradicting and shows the lack of Jacob s faith in the Lord at this time in his life.
In accordance, it is quite mystifying as to the exact necessity of all ten brothers actually making
the journey. Were they afraid they would become lonely or was the food in Egypt metered out
according to persons present? A passage such as this also begs the question, why would did the
brother s first response to accusation include family details and intimate information? Does this
have something to do with the previous question about quotas of food being dependent upon the
number of family members? Was it really the best way they could think of to show an Egyptian
official their innocence? Also, it is a bit puzzling why they would sort of admit to Joseph s
demise by saying he is no more versus, a wild beast has devoured him as they told their father
(Gen. 37:33). Notions such as these can be more fully understood by looking into a solid Bible
based commentary. After consulting Paradise to Prison, by John J. Davis, concerning Genesis
42:1 15, the text became quite clearer on the whole. Joseph s true motive in all of this seems to be
to humble his brothers (279). A sentiment such as this is a bit hard to see in the text, but in
hindsight truly acknowledges every facet of Joseph s behavioral eccentricities. Joseph, while he has

Null Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis: The amylase will have no effect on the starch or fail to digest it and the Lugol s
will cross the membrane causing a color change.
Hypothesis: The amylase will digest the starch, so when the Lugol s crosses the membrane, there
will be no color change. In this lab experiment, we were testing diffusion across a plasma
membrane using starch, amylase and Lugol s. The results from the experiment supported my
hypothesis. The amylase did in fact digest the starch. The control in our experiment without the
amylase confirmed this. In the original beaker, filled with 2/3 water and 4 pipettes of Lugol s,
was a tied off plastic tubing (dialysis tubing) filled with starch and amylase. In the control beaker,

The Density Of Water Is Its Mass Divided By Its Volume
The density of water is its mass divided by its volume. In this case, the mass of water was
determined by subtracting the final mass of the glassware with water by the initial mass of the
glassware without water. The volume was determined by observing closely which line (marked
on the sides of each glassware) the water reached and reporting the most precise measurement.
Based on the class data, the average densities of water and its standard deviations were: 50 mL
beaker avg: 0.90 g/mL, stand dev: 0.12, 10 mL graduated cylinder avg: 0.980 g/mL, stand dev:
0.0600, 10 mL volumetric pipette avg: 0.9800 g/mL, stand. dev: 0.06499, 50 mL burette avg:
0.969 g/mL, stand. dev: 0.140. The average densityof water compares our experimental value to the
true value. This means that the closer our values are to the true density of water, which is
approximately 0.998 g/mL at 18.89В°C, the more accurate our data is. Furthermore, the standard
deviationmeasures how precise our results are with one another. Based on the four data sets of the
class, the most precise volumetric glassware is the 10 mL graduated cylinder because its standard
deviation is the lowest. This lower value indicates that this glassware consistently yielded similar
densities of water more often than other glassware. Although tied with the volumetric pipette, the
graduated cylinder is also the most accurate volumetric glassware because the resulting average of
its water densities is closest to the real density of

Xenotransplantation Essay
Moral, Environmental and Cultural Issues
From the beginning, xenotransplantations have been an ethically controversial procedure and for
many diverse reasons. Diverse groups are fervently opposed to it: animal rights groups, for instance,
are undoubtedly against butchering animals to collect their organs for some human s sake. Although,
most major religions aren t resistant to the use of genetically modified xenografts to save human
lives, the proscription of pig consumption poses some dilemmas for the Jewish and Islamic
communities. When divine providence is not being used to justify the genetic engineering of
animals, then some evolutionary ethic of the strongest calls the tune or might is right seems to
obtain (Sherlock Morrey, 2002, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients, in that case, must be entirely aware of what the procedure implies, without any outside
influence affecting their choice, and must, themselves, understand the risks and benefits of this
type of transplantation.
Also, some have suggested that family and close friends of the patient should also give consent
because of the magnitude of repercussions xenografts imply; the great possibility of diseases and
viruses crossing over to humans make the patients closest contacts at risk as well. Therefore, it is
important that those contacts be monitored to assure that a xenozoonosis is not happening. This
proposal arise another ethical question: the consent of the patient can turn out to be narrowed down
if the family and friends don t agree with putting themselves at risk and the confidentiality
principles would also be broken.
Evidently, the public s safety remains a significant element to be measured. Procedures must be in
place to protect the public from any risk due to possible outbreaks. Ergo society must understand
the risks and benefits of xenograft and consent to its application. This societal response is a very
important ethical issue according to the Ethics Committee of the International Xenotransplantation
Association and it will be hard to overcome until researches proves the achievement of a low risk
graft, resulting from genetically modified

money. He doesn t take the settlement or tell the Donaheys about it which he is supposed to tell
them. He also stole mail from Maureen Rooney to get ahold of Kaitlin Costello Pryce. Frank did
all of this because the end would justify the means. Even though some of the things he did weren t
right he wanted to do the right thing by providing justice for Deborah Ann Kay.
Concannon takes a Utilitarian standpoint and only cares about winning and money he doesn t

pays for the work they do with the poor, for law to be practiced, for general needs, and the leisure
to do nice things. He also pays Laura to spy on Frank to make his job easier and see what Frank s
tactics are.
Laura Fischer takes a Utilitarian standpoint for most of the movie. She wants to be apart of law
again and is hired by Concannon to spy on Frank. Laura then begins to care about Frank and they
fall in love. She cannot bear what she is doing to Frank anymore and tries to tell him but he is too
busy. By doing this she is trying to do the right thing. In the end she betrays Concannon and doesn t

The Downward Spiral Analysis
In 1994, Nine Inch Nails released a dark, desolate album called The Downward Spiral. The songs
are known to alternate violently between too low volumes with sweet melody (along with that
soft ragged voice characteristic of grunge) and too high volumes with many layers of white
noise, screaming, and distortion layered over hard rock instrumentals (Gold). The message of the
album is as disturbing as the audio: It tracks the narrator s path of self destruction through
attempting to find satisfaction in religion, sex, and drug abuse ( Interview ). The album, while
rife with emotional significance on its own, acts as both a prophecy and a cry for help. It
followed a junkie s painful lifestyle, the addiction and abuse functioning solely as a metaphor for
Reznor s internal strife ( Interview ). But soon after releasing The Downward Spiral, Reznor would
turn to drugs and alcohol, later surviving a heroin overdose in the... Show more content on

The first lyric sets the tone for the whole song: I hurt myself today/To see if I still feel . That first
verse later goes on to describe the narrator s usage of drugs (likely heroin): The needle tears a

hurt himself (either indirectly through drugs or by actually inflicting pain), uses the pain and
high to try to forget his situation, but apparently still remembers everything. The narrator is
disgusted with how everything has turned out, and asks in a refrain, What have I become? He
is miserable, and considers his life and accomplishments (his empire of dirt ) worthless. To mark the
very end of this sorrowful soliloquy, Reznor softly adds If I could start again/ A million miles away

Summary Of Pinnocchio And The God Of Small Things
The Oxford Dictionary defines a bildungsroman as A novel that has as its main theme the
formative years or spiritual education of one person , and in this essay, I am going to prove that
both Carlo Collodi s The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) (hereafter referred to as Pinocchio ) and
Arundhati Roy s The God of Small Things (1997) are both bildungsromans. To prove this argument
is correct, I will: concentrate on the experiences of the children within Roy s work (Estha, Sophie
Mol, and Rahel), focus on the responses from other characters to Pinocchios choices to form a
judgement as to whether the children in the selected texts do positively develop or regress in their
education, and analyse the narrative style of the two aforementioned texts.
It is important to consider that whilst The God of Small Things was written in a third person
omniscient narrative, Pinocchio was written in a third person limited narrative, and both narratives
enable the reader to clearly understand the motives behind the actions and decisions of the
characters. Both Richard Wunderlich and Thomas J. Morrissey argue that Pinocchio for adults, he
had written successful political commentary and satire whilst For children, he had translated fairy
tales and written school textbooks (pg. 5). Therefore, it depends on the reader s age which
influences whether they believe that Pinocchio learns or does not, since Pinocchio can be regarded
as a school textbook or a fairy tale . Wunderlich

Physics of Mountain Biking Essay
Mountain biking is enjoyed by millions of people throughout the year, and is attracting more and
more people everyday. Physics plays a vital role in this sport and without it, mountain biking
would have no challenges and would cease to exist. The concept of mountain biking is simple.
Just take your primitive bike riding skills, and ride trails found off the beaten path. From this
notion of riding a bike, an Olympic sport has evolved and many people have found meaning and
joy in their lives.
m = mass of bike and rider g = gravitational force
A= acceleration mu = kinetic friction coefficient
В· Inertial Forces = m *A
В· Frictional Force = mu * m * g * cos(theta)
В· Gravitational Force = m * g * sin(theta)
Gravity is the force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case gravity is working to your advantage and is pulling you down the hill. So, as you bike
down hills, you can accelerate due to your own power as well as accelerate due to the force of
gravity.
Lets take a more in depth look at this force called gravity!
The force of gravity exerts a constant acceleration of 9.81 m/sec^2 towards the center of the
earth. While gravity is being exerted downward, a normal force is being exerted on the rider
opposing gravity. This normal force acts perpendicular to the earth s surface, and for our
purposes the trail a biker is riding. So for example, if a biker were on a flat surface, both gravity
and the normal force would be acting upon the biker, but in opposing directions, thereby canceling
each other out and can be ignored. However, this combination of gravity and the normal force is
what makes climbing up hills difficult, and riding down hills a breeze.
In the sport of mountain biking you experience both accelerations and decelerations. This is
what makes mountain biking so exciting, but it also the reason why you should always wear a
helmet! Acceleration is defined as a change in velocity divided by a given amount of time. A
rider accelerates as he or she exerts energy and starts to pedal, but can also accelerate as he or she
rides down a hill, and this acceleration is due to the force of gravity mentioned earlier. As you
accelerate, the weight of the wheels affects the

greenish discoloration, and skin slippage on the corpse. The child s mother was a heroin user, and
worked as a street prostitute. The father had been arrested for theft 5 months before. According to

After a few minutes, these larvae were fixed in 70% ethanol and shipped to the forensic
entomologist. From the genital area, third instar larvae of Muscina stabulans (false stable fly) and
Fannia canicularis (little house fly) were identified. From the face, maggots of Caliphora vomitoria
(bluebottle) were identified. No Lucilia or Phaenicia (greenbottle) individuals were found.
Both M. stabulans and F. canicularis adults can frequently be found in local apartments in which
they are attracted to rotten organic matter. From second instar onwards, M. stabulans larvae
prey on other larvae. F. canicularis showed a delay of initial colonization of 3 10 days post
mortem and it is strongly attracted to both urine and feces. M. stabulans is strongly attracted to
human faeces but lesser to corpses. The conditions were compared with those reported by
Nuorteva as only few observations on the development of M. stabulans were available. Conditions
were found to be quite similar for an estimation of a post mortem interval of between 7 21 days,
most likely around 14 days that is on 27th June 2000. This quite conservative estimate was because
of the fact that it was uncertain whether a fly population may already found inside of the flat a few
months before. Therefore, it is important that the forensic entomologist is at the crime scene to

The Influence Of The British African Colonies On The...
With more of an idea of what the inland was like, the powers decided to meet up and split Africa
among themselves. It was at this meeting of nations that Britain (the main English speaking
empire of the time) collected around 20 colonies in Africa. Each of these colonies were operated
under the English language. Additionally, English speaking immigrants flooded these newly
organized colonies. This influx of the English language not only spread the English language, but
it also influenced it. Again the powers that conquered were influenced by the places that they
conquered. The influences that were given by the British African colonies were much more direct
now. Now English had been formed, and they were spoken together with the indigenous
languages. As with Aramaic and Latin, the invading force picked up several words and language
additions. Africa offered a plethora of indigenous languages to influence the English language.
Inland Africa also exposed the English speaking colonists to various things that they had never
witnessed before. For example Zebra was a word with African origins, because to this point the
Europeans had not seen this creature. They took what the locals called it and added it to the
English language. This happened with a lot of words that are now commonly used in the English
language. Banjo, banana, chimpanzee, impala, jazz, jenga, jumbo, safari, tango, tilapia, yam, and
zombie are all examples of African words that were added to the English language.

The Press Released Horror Stories
United States. In Kenya, the press released horror stories of what the Mau Mau rebels did to
colonists to destroy support for them among both the British back home, and potential rebels in
Kenya. International news reported Kikuyu attacks on settlers as fanatical, degraded, bestial, and
satanic (Robbins 295). Such press reports denied the Mau Mau rebels their own voice in the
international conversation and turned potential sources of support against them.
However, just as the press has the power to deny support to indigenous resistance, so it can lend

However, all responses from governments and capitalists have not been violent. Native Americans
have ongoing, nonviolent struggles with the United States government over land, money,
education, healthcare, and legal rights. Maxus has regular dealings with ONHAE that are
nonviolent, yet they are a form of resistance because ONHAE is in itself a resistance.
Those that are protested against may not understand the protest; Robbins writes that the British
could think of no reason that the Mau Mau would rebel, and so they blamed the Mau Mau oath
(Robbins 297). When two cultures collide, it is reasonable to assume that one (or both) will not
understand the other; there is often little attempt to understand the indigenous culture, as shown by
missionary attempts to educate indigenous people away from their traditional cultures. The
inability to understand each other, or perhaps the lack of an attempt to, may also be a leading cause
for the violent reactions that foreign parties have had to indigenous resistance.
The Huaorani are such a small group that open rebellion like the Mau Mau s would be totally
illogical. Instead, they have tried going the legal route, and, in doing so, have attempted to create a
cross cultural understanding by educating the leaders of ONHAE to interact with outsiders.

Character Analysis Of Bushberry s Bushwick
Bushwick, directed by Johnathan Milott and Cary Murnion, is a frantic storyline of cat and mouse
and becomes obnoxious the more you watch. The storyline premises more excitement than is
displayed, and the characters fail the glue this story together.
A college student named Lucy (Brittany Snow) comes back to her hometown in Brooklyn on a
subway, when she walks into a civil war outbreak within the streets of Brooklyn s Bushwick
neighborhood. The state of Texas is abiding by the government operations and militia forces have
been sent to destroy and wreak havoc in the streets of Brooklyn, so that they can claim this
territory as their East Coast base. Lucy then becomes acquainted with a burly war veteran, Stupe
(Dave Bautista), who helps her travel across the city into safety. The intense escape extends for a
treacherous five block course and becomes bloodshed after each block. Lucy and Stupe must
depend on each other to survive the militia forces.
Brittany Snow and Dave Bautista do a great job showing their emotion throughout the film, yet it
might have been too much. This film was directed poorly, after every ten to fifteen minutes, the
characters would cry hysterically, even while the war is going right outside the door. This made it
difficult to watch, because the characters would stop to talk about their personal lives, yet their
major priority should be getting to safety. This was one of the major faults throughout this film.

generations held. The job one obtains after graduation would probably not be the last job of his/her
lifetime, that is in today s corporate race, a job becomes more of a pit stop one to stay in until either
the employer or employee feels dissatisfied rather than a final destination. Given this condition, a
person must constantly show their worth and perform better than others to stay employed, but it
seems that the situation is not that simple; many stumble over transitions between jobs, falling off
tracks just the slightest and finding themselves unable to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman in The Atlantic article The Confidence
Gap , confidence is a belief in one s ability to succeed, a belief that stimulates action (Kay and
Shipman 151). As important it is to be knowledgeable with a warehouse full of experiences, if
one only keeps the knowledge to him/herself, this knowledge will not have the chance to be
applied, or let alone appreciated. This would clearly be more difficult for introverts and women
than for extroverts and men, but we must overcome this barrier to have a successful career. Due
to both nature and nurture, women tend to internalize their failures and mistakes, falsely blaming
themselves for being incompetent, resorting to being even more careful and shy in taking
actions, which stops them from taking risks that might be the key to stand out and succeed. To
overcome the lack of confidence, we need to swallow our doubts, stop thinking so much and just
act (Kay and Shipman 153). Confidence is the language needed to deliver our skills, and at the
end of the day, confidence can also be self perpetuating, and having confidence could help us better
recover from failures and be a better person as a

The French Revolution
The French Revolution first began in 1789 when ideas from the age of Enlightenment crept into
France. The American Revolution had just occurred and come to a close, so the people of
France picked up on the ideals of freedom and balanced power. The amount of assistance France
had given to the Americans and also put towards their own Seven Years War left the country in
shambles, with famine spreading and economical problems being rampant. Nobility and royalty,
who held the majority of the money left in France, paid no taxes and lived lavishly while
peasants starved to death and suffered in the economical crisis. The king, Louis XVI, and his wife,
Marie Antoinette, lived an incredibly luxurious life in Versailles and used excessive funds for their
lifestyle, while the citizens of France lived in deplorable conditions. Ideas of Enlightenment spread
among the peasants. They could be free from kings, priests, and people in absolute power. The
people could rule themselves. An emergency meeting was called to discuss the state of affairs in the
country. The Convocation of the Estate s General formed, representing all three established estates
in France. The Clergy had 300 representatives, Nobility had 300 representatives, and the third estate
insisted on having 600 representatives, since the third estate encompassed the vast majority of the
French population. The Convocation met at Versailles. The third estate was angry about the
economic state of France, so things escalated

Consumerism In America
Why the American culture of consumption is destructive to individuals and society.
Consumerism in America has been at an all time high for years now. Consumerism refers to the
consumption of goods and services at an ever increasing rate. It is one of the many things that
America is know for. Our economy is judged by how much people spend, and if it is high then
our economy must be well off (Shukla 1). This ideology is purely materialistic and pushes people
towards higher consumption than is needed. It transforms others into overly materialistic people
who cannot distinguish the difference between wants and needs, and negatively affects those
around them including the environment because of the glorification of material wealth. It is
highlighted that in a year an American consumes 275 pounds of meat, 635 pounds of paper,
energy equivalent to 7.8 metric tons of oil, while 45 years ago, it was once the consumption of
197 pounds of meat, 366 pounds of paper, and energy equivalent to 5.5 metric tons of oil
(Goodwin, et al 1). These numbers have nearly doubled within 45 years. That is not to mention the
fact that there is a car for every two Americans. Over consumption is very real, and resources are
constantly being burned through.
However, consumerism is enjoyed by America, and there are many other countries who wish to
consume as we do. David Masci said, Indeed, more than two thirds of America s $8 trillion
economy is tied to the selling and buying of goods (1003).

Traumatic Dental Injury
Traumatic dental injuries are the most common of all the facial injuries and majorly involve
maxillary incisors because of its position in the arch (4). Luxation injuries occur commonly in the
primary dentition and mainly due to the resiliency of the alveolar bone (5). Treatment decisions for
primary teeth are based on the degree of displacement, root formation and the ability of the child to
cope with the emergency situation. Immediate repositioning and stabilization of laterally luxated
teeth in their anatomic position are essential for the healing of periodontal ligament and to maintain
esthetics and functional integrity (6, 7). Indications for extraction are severe injury or if the tooth is
nearing exfoliation. In the present case, maxillary

Shel Silverstein Research Paper
Shel Silverstein is a very popular children s poetry book author, a songwriter, and a playwright. He
was a very private man who did not entertain interviews and left most of his life in the shadows
away from media attention. Shel Silverstein instilled the love of reading into the hearts of young
American children through his short and silly poems filled with dark humor and outrageous,
invented cartoon characters.Shel Silversteinwas born during the Great Depression in 1930 in
Chicago, Illinois. He started drawing at young age, because according to him, he was not
popular with the girls and was not good at sports. (Encyclopedia of WB, 341) He had a unique
style of illustration and writing that mimicked no other author of his time. During the 1950 s he
served in the Army in Korea and Japan. While enlisted he drew cartoons for the Pacific Stars and
Stripes magazine. (ECWB, 341) Ironically, Silverstein never planned on writing children s
books. When his enlistment in the Armed Forces ended he began drawing cartoons and small
articles for Playboy magazine. (ECWB, 341) It was not until he met Ursula Nordstrom that he
thought about writing children s books. (ADD CITATION) Shel Silverstein wrote plays, songs,
and many award winning children s book. Sadly, he passed away in 1999 at the age of 67, but his
legacy lives on through his still popular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cartoons go along with the poems and help the reader visualize as well as further understand
the poems. His style of poetry is rhythmic and metered like song lyrics with a combination of
serious and silly word play. His poems often include outrageous scenarios and characters chant like
verses and rhymes and are often compared to those of Dr. Seuss. There are many controversies on
multiple of his works on whether his deeper symbolism and dark humor is educational or harmful to

A Study Of The Trinity
Hey small group dwellers, I Can not wait to continue our bible study of the four gospels this
week, I hope to see you all there. Before we continued on to the next part of our bible study I
wanted to make sure we were on the same page since I knew a few of you had questions about
the trinity last week. Let me start with thanking all of you for being so gracious with me. Before I
answered your questions I wanted to make sure I had done the adequate amount of research. The
topic of the trinityis often taught wrong and is equally confusing at times. The four major
questions that I wanted to tackle are: (1) Is there only one God, (2) Are all three figures of the
trinity divine, (3) Is the father not the son, who is not the spirit, (4) How... Show more content on

1 Corinthians emphasizes that there may be other fake gods but there is only one truth God. A
really God whom all things came from. The question Is there only one God gets complicated when
wondering how Jesus can be God when there is also Father God and the Holy spirit which brings us
to our next question I want to tackle.
Are all three figures of the trinity divine? First I wanted to identify the three figures in the trinity.
Jesus Christ, The Father, and the Holy Spirit are the divine trinity. Colossians 2:9 (NIV) helps us
understand who Jesus Christ is more; For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily
form (Bible Gateway). This text shows us that Jesus Christ is 100% divine and 100% man. Another
text that helps us understand more is Hebrews 1:2 3 (NIV):
But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and
through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided
purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Bible Gateway).
Hebrews helps us understand that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father and who is on the
right hand

Buddhist Crisis
The Buddhist Crisis as a Turning Point in the Vietnam War
Anonymous
March 24, 2013
There were several events during the Vietnam War that can be considered turning points , which can
be described as the occurrence of an event that changed the course of history. One such event was
the Buddhist crisis in 1963. The Buddhists of South Vietnamhad experienced decades of religious
persecution during French colonialism that continued with the Catholic government, which was
backed by the United States (Toong, 2008). The demonstrations, protests and self immolations that
followed as a result of this religious persecution and the media coverage it generated encouraged
the Kennedy administration to back a coup d Г©tat against Ngo ... Show more content on

Diem s reaction to this event was denying responsibility and he put the blame on communists.
Despite repeated encouragement from the United States government to reconcile with the
Buddhists, Diem remained unyielding and asserted that there was no presence of religious
persecution (Toong, 2008). The height of the Buddhist crisis was reached when Thich Quang Duc
ignited himself and burned to death in as a protest in the street in front of a large crowd in Saigon
(Moss, 2010). The appalling images of the self immolation of Thich Quang Duc were spread
throughout the world by international media coverage. Demonstrations by the Buddhists and
retaliation by the GVN continued to escalate to a point where the United States could no longer
support the Diem government, which despite financial assistance that amounted to over $1,000,000
per day and the support of the American military, refused to cooperate (Toong, 2008).
Subsequently, and dependent on Diem s lack of response to pressure from the United States
regarding the Buddhist crisis, the Kennedy administration decided to participate in a coup to
overthrow him (Toong, 2008). The final straw was the pagoda raids on August 21 and Diem s
declaration of martial law with threats to shoot and kill Americans on the

  • 2. Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident. During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial numbers were short of our goal of finishing all of the trials for both turbulent laminar for that day because of the accident ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Negotiations happen when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self assessment is the first and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is exploring my past experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing so. As mentioned earlier, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can negotiate at home, in our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. • 4. Immanuel Kant And Kant On Morality The general definition of morality is the rules for right action and prohibitions against wrong acts. Sometimes morality is the single set of absolute rules and prohibitions that are valid for all men at all times and all societies. More loosely, a morality can be any set of ultimate principles, and there may be any number of moralities in different societies. Examples would be don t cheat, don t steal, and treat others as you would want to be treated. When dealing with the philosophers take on morality, there are two which are usually compared to one another, Immanuel Kantand David Hume. Immanuel Kant had many theories throughout his philosophical time. Here are some of his ethical works, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), the Critique of Practical Reason (1788), and the Metaphysics of Morals (1797), which contains both the Doctrine of Right and the Doctrine of Virtue. He also had some other works of importance to his moral philosophy including the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790), Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason (1793), and Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View (1798). Here are some of Hume s main ethical writings, A Treatise on Human Nature (1739 40), especially books two and three, and in An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (1751). Also relevant to Hume s ethics are various essays, such as Of Suicide (1777), parts of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (1748), and his Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion ... • 5. Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism Creationism View When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. While others know as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours would not make sense. (Old Earth ... The policy remains unchanged from 1912 to early 1916; the Russian government avoid any measures that might antagonize the Ottomans (3). Was it really the best way they could think of to show an Egyptian official their innocence? Also, it is a bit puzzling why they would sort of admit to Joseph s demise by saying he is no more versus, a wild beast has devoured him as they told their father (Gen. 37:33). Notions such as these can be more fully understood by looking into a solid Bible based commentary. After consulting Paradise to Prison, by John J. Davis, concerning Genesis 42:1 15, the text became quite clearer on the whole. Joseph s true motive in all of this seems to be to humble his brothers (279). A sentiment such as this is a bit hard to see in the text, but in hindsight truly acknowledges every facet of Joseph s behavioral eccentricities. Joseph, while he has ... Hypothesis: The amylase will digest the starch, so when the Lugol s crosses the membrane, there will be no color change. In this lab experiment, we were testing diffusion across a plasma membrane using starch, amylase and Lugol s. The results from the experiment supported my hypothesis. The amylase did in fact digest the starch. The control in our experiment without the amylase confirmed this. • 23. The Density Of Water Is Its Mass Divided By Its Volume The density of water is its mass divided by its volume. In this case, the mass of water was determined by subtracting the final mass of the glassware with water by the initial mass of the glassware without water. The volume was determined by observing closely which line (marked on the sides of each glassware) the water reached and reporting the most precise measurement. Based on the class data, the average densities of water and its standard deviations were: 50 mL beaker avg: 0.90 g/mL, stand dev: 0.12, 10 mL graduated cylinder avg: 0.980 g/mL, stand dev: 0.0600, 10 mL volumetric pipette avg: 0.9800 g/mL, stand. dev: 0.06499, 50 mL burette avg: 0.969 g/mL, stand. dev: 0.140. The average densityof water compares our experimental value to the true value. This means that the closer our values are to the true density of water, which is approximately 0.998 g/mL at 18.89В°C, the more accurate our data is. Furthermore, the standard deviationmeasures how precise our results are with one another. Based on the four data sets of the class, the most precise volumetric glassware is the 10 mL graduated cylinder because its standard deviation is the lowest. This lower value indicates that this glassware consistently yielded similar densities of water more often than other glassware. Although tied with the volumetric pipette, the graduated cylinder is also the most accurate volumetric glassware because the resulting average of its water densities is closest to the real density of ... Diverse groups are fervently opposed to it: animal rights groups, for instance, are undoubtedly against butchering animals to collect their organs for some human s sake. Although, most major religions aren t resistant to the use of genetically modified xenografts to save human lives, the proscription of pig consumption poses some dilemmas for the Jewish and Islamic communities. When divine providence is not being used to justify the genetic engineering of animals, then some evolutionary ethic of the strongest calls the tune or might is right seems to obtain (Sherlock Morrey, 2002, ... Patients, in that case, must be entirely aware of what the procedure implies, without any outside influence affecting their choice, and must, themselves, understand the risks and benefits of this type of transplantation. Also, some have suggested that family and close friends of the patient should also give consent because of the magnitude of repercussions xenografts imply; the great possibility of diseases and viruses crossing over to humans make the patients closest contacts at risk as well. Therefore, it is important that those contacts be monitored to assure that a xenozoonosis is not happening. This proposal arise another ethical question: the consent of the patient can turn out to be narrowed down if the family and friends don t agree with putting themselves at risk and the confidentiality principles would also be broken. Evidently, the public s safety remains a significant element to be measured. Procedures must be in place to protect the public from any risk due to possible outbreaks. Ergo society must understand the risks and benefits of xenograft and consent to its application. This societal response is a very important ethical issue according to the Ethics Committee of the International Xenotransplantation Association and it will be hard to overcome until researches proves the achievement of a low risk graft, resulting from genetically modified ... The songs are known to alternate violently between too low volumes with sweet melody (along with that soft ragged voice characteristic of grunge) and too high volumes with many layers of white noise, screaming, and distortion layered over hard rock instrumentals (Gold). The message of the album is as disturbing as the audio: It tracks the narrator s path of self destruction through attempting to find satisfaction in religion, sex, and drug abuse ( Interview ). The album, while rife with emotional significance on its own, acts as both a prophecy and a cry for help. Summary Of Pinnocchio And The God Of Small Things The Oxford Dictionary defines a bildungsroman as A novel that has as its main theme the formative years or spiritual education of one person , and in this essay, I am going to prove that both Carlo Collodi s The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) (hereafter referred to as Pinocchio ) and Arundhati Roy s The God of Small Things (1997) are both bildungsromans. To prove this argument is correct, I will: concentrate on the experiences of the children within Roy s work (Estha, Sophie Mol, and Rahel), focus on the responses from other characters to Pinocchios choices to form a judgement as to whether the children in the selected texts do positively develop or regress in their education, and analyse the narrative style of the two aforementioned texts. It is important to consider that whilst The God of Small Things was written in a third person omniscient narrative, Pinocchio was written in a third person limited narrative, and both narratives enable the reader to clearly understand the motives behind the actions and decisions of the characters. Both Richard Wunderlich and Thomas J. Morrissey argue that Pinocchio for adults, he had written successful political commentary and satire whilst For children, he had translated fairy tales and written school textbooks (pg. 5). Therefore, it depends on the reader s age which influences whether they believe that Pinocchio learns or does not, since Pinocchio can be regarded as a school textbook or a fairy tale . Just take your primitive bike riding skills, and ride trails found off the beaten path. From this notion of riding a bike, an Olympic sport has evolved and many people have found meaning and joy in their lives. m = mass of bike and rider g = gravitational force A= acceleration mu = kinetic friction coefficient В· Inertial Forces = m *A В· Frictional Force = mu * m * g * cos(theta) В· Gravitational Force = m * g * sin(theta) Gravity is the force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case gravity is working to your advantage and is pulling you down the hill. So, as you bike down hills, you can accelerate due to your own power as well as accelerate due to the force of gravity. Lets take a more in depth look at this force called gravity! The force of gravity exerts a constant acceleration of 9.81 m/sec^2 towards the center of the earth. While gravity is being exerted downward, a normal force is being exerted on the rider opposing gravity. This normal force acts perpendicular to the earth s surface, and for our purposes the trail a biker is riding. So for example, if a biker were on a flat surface, both gravity and the normal force would be acting upon the biker, but in opposing directions, thereby canceling each other out and can be ignored. However, this combination of gravity and the normal force is what makes climbing up hills difficult, and riding down hills a breeze. In the sport of mountain biking you experience both accelerations and decelerations. This is what makes mountain biking so exciting, but it also the reason why you should always wear a helmet! Acceleration is defined as a change in velocity divided by a given amount of time. A rider accelerates as he or she exerts energy and starts to pedal, but can also accelerate as he or she rides down a hill, and this acceleration is due to the force of gravity mentioned earlier. As you accelerate, the weight of the wheels affects the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was at this meeting of nations that Britain (the main English speaking empire of the time) collected around 20 colonies in Africa. Each of these colonies were operated under the English language. Additionally, English speaking immigrants flooded these newly organized colonies. This influx of the English language not only spread the English language, but it also influenced it. Again the powers that conquered were influenced by the places that they conquered. The influences that were given by the British African colonies were much more direct now. Now English had been formed, and they were spoken together with the indigenous languages. As with Aramaic and Latin, the invading force picked up several words and language additions. Africa offered a plethora of indigenous languages to influence the English language. Inland Africa also exposed the English speaking colonists to various things that they had never witnessed before. For example Zebra was a word with African origins, because to this point the Europeans had not seen this creature. They took what the locals called it and added it to the English language. This happened with a lot of words that are now commonly used in the English language. Banjo, banana, chimpanzee, impala, jazz, jenga, jumbo, safari, tango, tilapia, yam, and zombie are all examples of African words that were added to the English language. ... The American Revolution had just occurred and come to a close, so the people of France picked up on the ideals of freedom and balanced power. The amount of assistance France had given to the Americans and also put towards their own Seven Years War left the country in shambles, with famine spreading and economical problems being rampant. Nobility and royalty, who held the majority of the money left in France, paid no taxes and lived lavishly while peasants starved to death and suffered in the economical crisis. The king, Louis XVI, and his wife, Marie Antoinette, lived an incredibly luxurious life in Versailles and used excessive funds for their lifestyle, while the citizens of France lived in deplorable conditions. Ideas of Enlightenment spread among the peasants. They could be free from kings, priests, and people in absolute power. The people could rule themselves. An emergency meeting was called to discuss the state of affairs in the country. The Convocation of the Estate s General formed, representing all three established estates in France. The Clergy had 300 representatives, Nobility had 300 representatives, and the third estate insisted on having 600 representatives, since the third estate encompassed the vast majority of the French population. • 43. Consumerism In America Why the American culture of consumption is destructive to individuals and society. Consumerism in America has been at an all time high for years now. Consumerism refers to the consumption of goods and services at an ever increasing rate. It is one of the many things that America is know for. Our economy is judged by how much people spend, and if it is high then our economy must be well off (Shukla 1). This ideology is purely materialistic and pushes people towards higher consumption than is needed. It transforms others into overly materialistic people who cannot distinguish the difference between wants and needs, and negatively affects those around them including the environment because of the glorification of material wealth. It is highlighted that in a year an American consumes 275 pounds of meat, 635 pounds of paper, energy equivalent to 7.8 metric tons of oil, while 45 years ago, it was once the consumption of 197 pounds of meat, 366 pounds of paper, and energy equivalent to 5.5 metric tons of oil (Goodwin, et al 1). These numbers have nearly doubled within 45 years. That is not to mention the fact that there is a car for every two Americans. Over consumption is very real, and resources are constantly being burned through. However, consumerism is enjoyed by America, and there are many other countries who wish to consume as we do. David Masci said, Indeed, more than two thirds of America s $8 trillion economy is tied to the selling and buying of goods (1003). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Traumatic Dental Injury Traumatic dental injuries are the most common of all the facial injuries and majorly involve maxillary incisors because of its position in the arch (4). Luxation injuries occur commonly in the primary dentition and mainly due to the resiliency of the alveolar bone (5). Treatment decisions for primary teeth are based on the degree of displacement, root formation and the ability of the child to cope with the emergency situation. Immediate repositioning and stabilization of laterally luxated teeth in their anatomic position are essential for the healing of periodontal ligament and to maintain esthetics and functional integrity (6, 7). Indications for extraction are severe injury or if the tooth is nearing exfoliation. In the present case, maxillary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. A Study Of The Trinity Hey small group dwellers, I Can not wait to continue our bible study of the four gospels this week, I hope to see you all there. Before we continued on to the next part of our bible study I wanted to make sure we were on the same page since I knew a few of you had questions about the trinity last week. Let me start with thanking all of you for being so gracious with me. Before I answered your questions I wanted to make sure I had done the adequate amount of research. The topic of the trinityis often taught wrong and is equally confusing at times. The four major questions that I wanted to tackle are: (1) Is there only one God, (2) Are all three figures of the trinity divine, (3) Is the father not the son, who is not the spirit, (4) How... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1 Corinthians emphasizes that there may be other fake gods but there is only one truth God. A really God whom all things came from. The question Is there only one God gets complicated when wondering how Jesus can be God when there is also Father God and the Holy spirit which brings us to our next question I want to tackle. Are all three figures of the trinity divine? First I wanted to identify the three figures in the trinity. Jesus Christ, The Father, and the Holy Spirit are the divine trinity. Colossians 2:9 (NIV) helps us understand who Jesus Christ is more; For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form (Bible Gateway). This text shows us that Jesus Christ is 100% divine and 100% man. Another text that helps us understand more is Hebrews 1:2 3 (NIV): But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Bible Gateway). Hebrews helps us understand that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father and who is on the right hand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Buddhist Crisis The Buddhist Crisis as a Turning Point in the Vietnam War Anonymous March 24, 2013 There were several events during the Vietnam War that can be considered turning points , which can be described as the occurrence of an event that changed the course of history. One such event was the Buddhist crisis in 1963. The Buddhists of South Vietnamhad experienced decades of religious persecution during French colonialism that continued with the Catholic government, which was backed by the United States (Toong, 2008). The demonstrations, protests and self immolations that followed as a result of this religious persecution and the media coverage it generated encouraged the Kennedy administration to back a coup d Г©tat against Ngo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diem s reaction to this event was denying responsibility and he put the blame on communists. Despite repeated encouragement from the United States government to reconcile with the Buddhists, Diem remained unyielding and asserted that there was no presence of religious persecution (Toong, 2008). The height of the Buddhist crisis was reached when Thich Quang Duc ignited himself and burned to death in as a protest in the street in front of a large crowd in Saigon (Moss, 2010). The appalling images of the self immolation of Thich Quang Duc were spread throughout the world by international media coverage. Demonstrations by the Buddhists and retaliation by the GVN continued to escalate to a point where the United States could no longer support the Diem government, which despite financial assistance that amounted to over $1,000,000 per day and the support of the American military, refused to cooperate (Toong, 2008). Subsequently, and dependent on Diem s lack of response to pressure from the United States regarding the Buddhist crisis, the Kennedy administration decided to participate in a coup to overthrow him (Toong, 2008). The final straw was the pagoda raids on August 21 and Diem s declaration of martial law with threats to shoot and kill Americans on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
