Power Of Book Holes By Louis Sachar
The Power Of Books
Hello. If you are reading this, you are part of the society that has been broken by greed, torn
apart by corruption, and riddled with dishonesty. You are part of a world where the war has
destroyed our earth, and we are the only ones left. In order to restore the peace and rebuild our
country, every citizen is required to read these books: Wouldn t take nothing for my journey
now , Holes , and The Hunger Games. These books will teach important lessons from our past
and give hope for our nation s future. If this project is successful, and it will be, our world will be
restored to it s former glory. These books will help rebuild our society, teach us about the beauty we
failed to see, and give us direction so we will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hopefully this will remind us to never return to our past. By reading this we will be reminded of
our past mistakes so we will be sure to never repeat them. By reading about katniss s bravery, we
can emulate it ourselves. It shows that one person really can make a difference. For example, in
the beginning Katniss was a scared girl and throughout the book you can slowly see her
changing into a fearless leader that is the influence of Panem. This just goes to show that one act
of bravery can go a very long way. In conclusion, these books all teach very different lessons
about life that will help better our society. These lessons of charity, generosity, hope, faith,
bravery will save us from the turmoil we are currently in. Books can heal, inspire hope, and save.
That is the ultimate goal of this project. We were told that books were once very common and
saved millions. So if that is true, then something in these three books has to have the power to
save all of us. These books will help rebuild our society, teach us about the beauty we failed to see,
and give us direction so we will not make the same

Main Theme Of Shrek
Vincent Garcia Lisa Smith English 101 7 November 2017 Shrek The movie Shrek is a fairytale
that you can watch with family. It s a movie that not only entertains, but it also teaches valuable
lessons. Shrek puts the viewers in awe and gets them excited, so this movie is definitely worth
watching! One of the main themes in this movie is the acceptance of people for who they truly
are. In this movie we witness a lot of prejudice, or just assumptions. People assume that because
someone looks a certain way that they are dangerous. Appearances are deceiving, and this movie
shows us exactly that. To begin, you should all know that Shrek is not your normal fairytale. This...

it is his turn to be sold, he is asked to talk but he doesn t. Lucky for him Tinker Bell was nearby

Wonder Woman is an iconic superhero with her lasso of truth she is able to make anyone tell the
truth. It sounds farfetched but for William Mouton Marston it wasn t. Marston was one of the main
developers who worked on the polygraph. After the polygraph was finished was ridiculed and went
on to create Wonder Woman (Dujack). The polygraph is what Marston based Wonder Woman s
lasso of truth on. In reality both the polygraph and the lasso of truth are fictitious dreams that might
one day rid the world of criminals and lies.
There are many instances in which the polygraph is proven to be at fault such as with Cleve
Backster. He was a polygraph examiner and believed strongly in the polygraph and its results.
Backster one day decided to attach a houseplant that was in his office to the machine. He then
would light the plants leaf on fire to see if the polygraph would have a spike in action. To his
surprise as he struck the match the polygraph jumped signifying a response (Eells). Instead of
considering that the polygraph went off randomly Backster instead assumed the plant had feelings
and could even read his mind. This discovery lead to many scientific research projects in which
scientists were unable to replicate Backster s results. Rather than dismiss the event and polygraph
as unreliable Backster dedicated the rest of his life to proving his discovery. The polygraph has

Deep Brain Stimulation
Presently, deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery predominates the field as the premier surgical
intervention for the treatment of advanced PD. It is most ideal for those PD patients whose disease
has insufficient or sporadic responses to medication. This technique involves the insertion of
permanent electrodes into a specifically targeted region of the brain and continuous administration
of high frequency of electrical stimulation. Currently, no evidence exists that suggests a specific
target for DBS surgery may be more beneficial; there was no marked difference in motor

Pros And Cons Of Drinking Water
The Carlsbad desalination idea is not a practical way to get drinking water for the people of
California. Obviously, it is a serious risk to the environment, and comes with many more cons than
pros. Why damage our world long term not that we haven t done that already when we can just find
other ways to get water for the Californians?
First of all, desalination is highly expensive. According to the NewsELA article titled, California
Tries One Solution to Water Problems Treating Seawater, by the Sacramento Bee staff, getting
water will cost $2,257 per acre foot. This is double the price of the authority s most expensive
supply of water now. Double! Already the U.S. is investing too much money in things that could
be solved in a much more practical way. We don t need desalination to provide water to people.
Clearly, desalination is not a realistic idea, due to the cost of it. People s water bills will go
shoot through the roof, and the project is expected to cost $1 billion. One acre foot can only
serve two average homes per year, meaning that desalination will only meet 7% of San Diego s
annual water needs. 7% is not worth it. 7% will do nothing but damage the oceans and ocean life.
Think about it this way: say that a county has 150 homes in it (which isn t even a close number,
by the way). Now take those 150 homes and multiply that by 2,257. The total is 338,550, meaning
it will take approximately $350,000 to supply these homes with only 7% of the water that they

California Heritage Language
The United States is known as the world s melting pot. However, California adopts this title to a
greater extent, as California accepts immigrants from a variety of different countries. Heritage
languages specifically have impacted the state of California as the diverse languages enable first,
second, and third generation speakers to all connect and communicate. Throughout California, there
are specific regions in which a particular languageis most prevalent. Languages like Hebrew, Italian,
Armenian, Korean, and variations of Chinese are represented with their own sector in California.
These areas strengthen the ethnolinguistic vitality of these languages. Previously to this class, I was
not aware of the different dialects that were common in California. If I were to hear someone
speaking Chicano English or African American English I would unrightfully assume that they were
speaking English incorrectly. However, throughout this course I learned each of these dialects
contains their own unique rules, which make them grammatically and linguistically correct. Even
though these dialects are linguistically equal, that does not make them socially equal. Besides
accented English, non English speakers are generally judged based on their accent. This however,
is linguistic profiling, which is illegal in the United States. It is hard... Show more content on

How Did Castles Change In England Between 1066 And 1500
Explain why castles changed in England between 1066 and 1500
Castles were extremely important during 1066 1500 and they changed overtime to get more
protection. A castle is a fortification that was used in the middle ages to protect territory against an
invasion. They were important during these times because many kings and lords wanted to show
off how wealthy they are and they used them as bases, controlling their land and people from a
higher point.
The first stage of the castle development is the motte and bailey castles. The motte is a hill or a
mound with a flat surfaced top and it is the hardest point to attack. Whereas the bailey is inside
the wells were people lived and the cops were grown. The King and lords who built castles used
them as bases from which they could control their land and people, furthermore it also protected
them from wars and showed people how powerful and rich they were. Examples of motte and
bailey castles are Windsor castle, Lincoln castle, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wooden towers of a motte and bailey castle were removed and replaced with stone, because
the towers were hollow, it was called a shell keep. Castles with a shell keep were better than the
early Norman motte and bailey castles because it was an expensive way of strengthening the
motte, the fragile wooden fence around the motte was replaced with a stone wall. The castle
engineers during the Norman period of time did not trust the motte to support the enormous
weight of a stone keep, but the a common solution to that problem was to replace the wooden
stakes enclosing the castle with a stone wall then building wooden buildings backing onto the
inside of the wall. This construction was great because it meant that the walls could be thinner
and lighter. The shell keep castles were less popular and were relatively short lived, the style
stopped being popular very quickly. Castles like York castle Clifford tower have a stone

How Did The Relationship Between 1925 To 1950
In China between the years 1925 to 1950 myriad changes were occurring. Chinese peasants and the

relationships between the Communist Party and the peasants grew through the defense against a

Essay about Colonial America
Religious Freedom in colonial America
Religion was a very important part of everyday life in colonial America. Sometimes people were
not allowed to question what they were taught, and if they did so they were punished
accordingly. Before 1700 some colonies had more religious freedom then others. While others
colonies only allowed religious freedom to a select group, others allowed religious freedom to all
different kinds of religions. In the overall there was quite a bit of religious freedom in colonial

These laws however were not re instituted to the Catholics and Jews. Even though Catholics and
Jews were deprived of freedom of worship. Pennsylvania was still democratic; it was founded for
civil and religious freedom. People there had more freedoms in Pennsylvania then they would have
if they lived in England.
Rhode Island and Pennsylvania were examples of the two most democratic colonies of colonial
America. Not all of the colonies were like this. For example, in (1629) non separatists Puritans
left from England and started a new colony called the Massachusetts Bay Colony. People who
did not agree with their views were often banished. Anne Hutchinson was one of these people
who were banished. She was banished because she argued against the Puritan belief of
predestination. She had a trial and from there was forced out of the colony. Another person that
was kicked out of the colony was a man named Roger Williams. Williams was exiled from the
colony because he was found to have new and dangerous opinions that disagreed with already
established Puritan beliefs. Also, men that were not a part of a Puritan congregation could not vote
in provincial elections. Freedom in this colony was somewhat limited.
Colonies of colonial America had different views when it came to religion, but they all had one
thing in common. All of the colonies had to some extent,

Synthesis Essay On The Melting Pot
The United States has a motto, e pluribus unum, that suggests that in America, embracing diversity
creates unity. Long ago, during the 1900s, assimilation was considered to be crucial in order for a
naturalization process to occur. Immigrants were forced to assimilate and adopt to the American
culture, in which they had never been introduced to before. Over time, things evolved and changed
to the point where people began to assimilate to a certain point, but still have their cultural
traditions, giving America a nickname known as the Melting Pot. America being known as The
Melting Pot, defends the claim that in today s society, The United Statesof America is moving
toward a new standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more than uniformity
and conformity. Before a naturalization ceremony occurs, the United States citizens still have their
cultural ideas and languages being spoken along with them. In Source 1, it s a picture of citizens all

The Macro Environment
The macro environment
Introduction
Marketing s role is to match the capabilities and resources within the organisation with market
opportunities external to the organisation. Understanding customer needs is central to achieving
this aim, but marketers must also be aware of factors that can cause customer needs to evolve. A
change in customer needs will impact upon the organisation s ability to serve its customers. This
means that marketers have to be knowledgeable about what is happening in the external
environment, or macro environment.
Beyond the organisations that immediately influence a company s operations lies the macro

Nations have different levels of income:
Subsistence economies consume what they produce, so provide limited market opportunities.
Industrial economies offer rich markets with varied goods.
The operation of the economic environment is affected by government economic policy. In
struggling economies, consumer purchasing power is reduced. Consumers at different income
levels spend their money on different things. Economic variables affect these spending patterns.

The economic problems faced by some countries have meant that some international marketers
cannot be paid in hard currency. To make sales, therefore, they have had to barter their products.
An example of this was the barter of Pepsi Cola for Russian vodka by the Pepsi company and the
former Soviet government.
Nature
This is important to marketers insofar as it is the source of many raw materials and fluctuation in
supply can affect the prices paid for purchases. Furthermore, the increasing cost of some raw
materials has meant that recycling of some materials, such as aluminium, has become economic.
There is increasing pressure from public opinion as to where raw materials are sourced from, and
their effect on the natural environment. Paper manufacturers have had to pay attention to sourcing
pulp from renewable forests, where trees are replanted to make up for those which have been
felled. There is also pressure on them not to use chemicals and bleaches in their

Issue of Tuition Free Public College
Money seems to be a big problem here in America according to Vermont Senator, Bernie Sanders.
He s urging Californians to vote for a new direction in the Democratic party (Sanders Ad), and by
virtue of that, put an end to the apparent corruption and misappropriation of this prized token of
trade. In a rousing and inspirational commercial the Senator wanted us, as citizens of the Golden
State, to not only vote for Bernie on June 7, but to get excited and maybe even a little angry about
how money is the biggest and most corrupt problem here in America, particularly in regards to the
issue of Tuition Free Public College, where he encouraged us to fight for our right to free higher
education and the promise of a greater nation. With better educated citizens strengthening our
future economy, and a solid plan to fund tuition free college for everyone by taxing the abundance
of dollars being traded in Wall Street, Mr. Sanders has a confident and trustworthy proposal to get
more Americans into a degree, however in the context of this 30 second television commercial he
seems to fall short on his reasoning to back these ideas, and relies chiefly on the emotions of his
constituents by simply reminding them of his views.

lower income citizens, of all major ethnicities, who are

Political Compromises
The effectiveness of the political compromises that were taken during 1820 to 1861 did little
enough to impact sectional tensions in the United States. Sectional tensions had caused a severe
division between the North and the South. Political compromises were purposed to resolve the
issues between the regions, but only lead to a temporary fix. Slaverywas one of the major causes of
sectional tensions. With the South in need of a large free labor force in the cotton industry, the
North was quickly transitioning to industrialization. The Compromise of 1820, the Kansas
Nebraska Act, and the Compromise of 1850, were political compromises that were to weak to
reduce sectional tensions during 1820 to 1861.
The Compromise of 1820 was one of the first temporary political compromises made to relieve
tensions between the North and the South. It was created by Henry Clay, or also known as The
Great Compromiser . He created it to position a boundary line to balance the number of the free
and slave states. This prohibited slavery above the 36 30 Parallel, north of the Louisiana Territory.

The level playing field catch word distracts attention from the monstrous discrepancy between the

The Radio And Its Impact On America
In the 1920s there was no ABC news. No sports announcements. No CD players. No television.
Before the 1920s they only had newspapers and live sports. Then, the radio came. In the 1920s and
30s the radio impacted culture by informing the public of news, bringing together America s music
and sports, and even uniting America to stop the Great Depressionand restore faith in government.
The radio was first invented in 1895. At first, people were unaware of the possible uses radios
would eventually have. Twenty five years after the radio was invented, the beginning of commercial
broadcasting radio stations began with the KDKA in Pittsburgh. During that time, the war began
a mass production of radios which let more common households own them instead of radios
being a rich people s toy, as they were considered previously. Radios sales spread as radios were
cheaper and people had more money to spend in the 1920s. By the end of the decade more than
twelve million households owned radios.
Radios changed America through news as people changed from reading newspapers to listening
to the radio starting November 2, 1920, which was more convenient and frequent. Unlike
newspapers, radios could broadcast information live instead of waiting for the next day s paper,
therefore they began to rival the popularity of newspapers (Britannica). People could hear events
immediately and could do so while cooking or doing other activities. This allowed America to be
more informed more efficiently

Karl Marx Vs Durkheim On Religion
The analysis and comparison of Karl Marx and Emile understanding of religion
Introduction
This essay analyses and compares the views of both Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim on religion.
It encompasses the views of other scholars on the same subject. For instance scholars like Gorsuch
(1988) saw religion as an important variable in people s lives and yet Marx and Durkheim view
religion absolutely in an unexpected way, nevertheless both of them concur that religion is a vital
part of a general public. Amid his profession, Marx talked little on the subject of religion.
Notwithstanding, what is inadequate in volume is compensated for in power and exhaustiveness.
As stated by Bell (2008) some of Marx s best known obitera are about religion. It is the murmur of
the persecuted animal, the fanciful satisfaction of men. It is the reflex of this present reality and
best of all it is the opium of the general population. Marx (1972). ... Show more content on

The theory of the weak Roman Emperors was one of the top three reasons for the fall of Rome
because its vast empire fell due to the weak and unstable government that was established by the
emperors who ruled during the fifty year period that lasted from 235 C.E. to 285 C.E. A powerful
empire consisted of a long lasting and strong government that was supported by a ruler who was
present to rule over the people and had the will to carry out reforms to improve the lives of citizens.

How Did Roman Music Influence Ancient Greek Culture
When a person hears Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome he probably envisions great military battles

times. While knowledge of ancient Greek and Roman musicis limited to fragments of old music
scores from the era, literary references, and the actual remains of musical instruments, society will
still benefit from studying these rich ancient cultures. Obviously, music from both these

that music played an important role in the Greek perception of how their race had come into

Asbestos And The Clean Air Act Of 1970 ( Caa )
Asbestos
Asbestos has been being used in the construction industry for decades. It dates back all the way to
the Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks. Asbestos is a natural occurring mineral made up of six
sets of fibrous mineral: chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite, anthophyllite, tremolite and actinolite.
Asbestos is a compound that is very versatile. In the 1800s, during the Industrial Revolution,
asbestos was being widely used throughout companies for various reasons. Companies like Ford
Motor Company, General Electric, General Motors, and Mobil Oil Corporation were all
companies using asbestos in their products. Companies used this fibrous mineral as a insular in
houses, schools, steam engines, fire proof ocean vessels, and even in the brakes of automobiles.
Construction workers can become deathly ill after long term exposure to this mineral.
When it was known about the effects of the exposure to asbestos, the Clean Air Act of

What caused these hairstylesthat are rooted from Africato somehow be manipulated and transition

Theory of Operant Conditioning
Theory of Operant Conditioning
Instrumental conditioning, otherwise known as operant conditioning is a theory that B.F Skinner
came up with and is defined as a learning process by which the consequence of an operant response
affects the likelihood of the response recurring in the future. Basically, operant conditioningis a
stimulus response prototype that when reinforced, conditions individuals or organisms response to
a desired behavior (Huitt, W., Hummel, J., 1997) Our behaviors are shaped to be desirable or
undesirable through reinforcements, punishment and extermination. Overall, operant conditioning
is seen to be voluntary reaction that precedes the stimulus and the reinforcement. Classical
conditioning is one of the techniques used in behavioral training. The process of classical
conditioning works with the introduction of neutral stimuli before the original stimulus and the
same reaction is elicited from the organism even without the presence of the original stimulus.
The Pavlov dog salivated with every sight of food as the original stimulus for the salivation.
When a neutral stimulus was introduced like a bell that was rang each time before it was fed, the
dog started salivating at the ringing of the bell even before the food was availed.
Positive and negative reinforcement
Introduction of the negative reinforcement to construe behavior entails removal of an unfavorable
events or outcomes after the display of a behavior. A response is strengthened by the

A balanced scorecard is a tool to provide management a way to bridge the gap between the
organization s strategy and vision and the operational processes used to do business. It enables the

as customer service, internal business processes and more. These intangible measures provide better

These financial measures may be appropriate for short term goals, but not provide enough focus on
long term outcomes.
The customer perspectives strengths are that these measures focus on customer satisfaction. These
measures address the link between customer complaints and profitability. It is expected that as
complaints are reduced, sales will increase. The weaknesses of the customer perspectives are that
the focus on customer complaints does not address the silent customers; that just go to a competitor
when they become dissatisfied with Frieda Fizz products. These measures are appropriate for
managers focus on product quality and the related sales growth. Managers may want to expand the
customer perspective measurements to include measures on customer service as they expand into
more geographic areas.
The internal business perspectives strengths are that they address capacity and production cost
efficiencies. These measures are weak in that they do not necessarily ensure quality of production
or effective use of the production line. Supervisors may be tempted to overproduce product. The
managers may want to focus on where there is a bottleneck in production or how long stock sits in
the warehouse. These measures are appropriate as it addresses controlling waste and ensure the
plant is optimally utilized.
The learning and growth perspective strengths address controlling costs through reduction of
injuries and improving job performance through training.

Narrative Frames and Interpretive Models in Troilus and Criseyde
Interpretive certainty is purposely elusive in Geoffrey Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde . Meaning
within the text is convoluted and continually renegotiated. Any attempt to design a singular
coherent stable source of meaning is problematic at best. Throughout the work, narrative frames are
broken and reordered and the validity of any fixed interpretive model is challenged. Virtually every
broad thematic discussion developed is potentially qualified or compromised by the presence of a
key figure, the narrator of the poem. As an ever present observer, the narrator is both author and

The personality of the narrator is foregrounded and exists as a character engaged in an open
dialogue with the reader. The narrator is thoroughly unreliable in his ability to serve as the sole
source of information and insight, a figure possessing absolute control of the text. The authority of
the narrator is paradoxically undermined and underscored by admission of his own inadequacies in
shaping the text.
Whether from mythological beings, ancient writers, a fictitious mentor, or the actual reader of the
poem, the narrator claims to need support from outside sources in order to effectively tell the tale.
The narrator portrays himself alternately as reluctant, ignorant, or simply incapable of fulfilling
his duties. He invokes the powers of the Furies, Cleo, Venus, and the Fates at the beginning of
each book to inspire and enhance his narrative skills. The invocations not only serve as symbolic
bridges to the actions that follow in each book, but also allow the possibility of distance to develop
between the narrator and his creative responsibility to the work. By invoking the gods, the narrator
could be seen as an intermediary, a conduit, a pawn, rather than an active participant.
The narrator does not, however, wish to completely shirk his creative contribution to the text.
Instead, he attempts to qualify it. He likens his skill

During the late nineteen forties, it was common for playwrights such as Tennessee Williams to use
symbolism as an approach to convey personal thoughts, through the attitudes of the characters and

accommodate the needs of their conservative audience. A Streetcar Named Desire has a few
complicated character traits and themes. Therefore, they have to be symbolised using figures or

Stella: What? Stanley: Meat! From these two brief extracts, the keynote is that the red meat is a
symbol used to show Stanley s bestial attitude, which is also in another of Blanche s dialogues:
Blanche: There s something downright bestial about him! The image Blanche creates of Stanley
(him being an animal an ape) is coincidental to the fact that she is actually describing her brother
in law, throwing red meat to his wife in an unacceptable fashion. We know that Blanche had not
been present, at the time of the event. This clearly proves that Stanley s bad actions are so
obvious, even other characters in the play can predict his actions. It is just like saying a tiger
arrives at his habitat with red meat and feeds his cubs, similar to what any other animal would
do. Basically, Stanley tossing the pack of meat at his wife could symbolise that he is not a
normal human being! He is an animal, a caveman, or even a madman , as Blanche prefers calling
him! (Page 158) Blanche: In my opinion? You re married to a madman! However, the red stained
package might mean something completely different. Perhaps the playwright is symbolising a
new entry; trying to describe an early impression of Stanley. The colour red could suggest a hot,
passionate and sexy character, who does not care about manners as long as sex and women

The Mexican American war, also known as the Mexican war happened between 1846 and 1848

state, was the primary cause of the war. A series of disagreements had occurred between Texans and
the Mexican government leading to Texasdeclaration of its independence in 1836. Later, Texas

This treaty granted Texas independence from Mexico. Regardless of this, Mexico and Texas still
fought over border lines which brewed negative stereotype of the Mexicans from Americans. Later,

How it played out
The Mexican American war was a conventional conflict battled y traditional armies made up of

Essay on Human Factors in Long-Duration Spaceflight
A manned mission to Mars is an extremely dangerous excursion. Crewmembers can expect a six
month flight to the planet, one year of occupation, and a six month travel back. During this period,
numerous human factors challenges can complicate, and even ruin the entire mission. This paper
will identify human factors challenges the crew will face, describe why they are so dangerous, and
finally, identify ways to mitigate these challenges.
The first challenge in a long duration spaceflight is almost immediately apparent after lift off,

One way to do this is with extensive exercise. Not just two or three times a week for 30 minutes.
Crewmembers must exercise six times a week for almost three hours at a time using equipment
such as the ergometer, treadmill, and the Resistance Exercise Device (RED) ( Use It or Lose It,
2004). Another way to fight the effects of micro gravity is to create an artificial gravity. Creating
artificial gravity can be done using one of two techniques, a rotation or acceleration. The entire
spacecraft could rotate, or a single section of the spacecraft could do the rotation. This would give
the astronauts the opportunity to live or weight train in a non weightless environment (Hsu, 2010).
High acceleration and deceleration rates of the spacecraft could also provide a normal gravitational
environment ( Space Travel, n.d.).
Once the mission leaves the Earth s atmosphere and travels into space, the next challenge awaits.
The Earth s atmosphere and magnetic field act as a shield and deter a large portion space radiation.
Space radiation comes from our Sun in the form of solar radiation and also comes from outside our
solar system in the form of cosmic rays (Gray, 2013). Radiation may be the most dangerous
phenomenon a long duration spaceflight could face. Solar flares erupt from the Sun and send
millions of tons of charged particles into space at speeds

The North was blessed with an abundance of natural resources and a growing population which led
to industrialization. This caused an increase in immigrants and no more demand for slavery. In the
South the fertile soil and the hot temperature made it ideal for farming and growing crops like
cotton and tobacco. Since agriculture was so profitable Southerners didn t really see a need for
industrial development. This meant that their whole society was completely based on farming and
on slaves doing the work. The North and South differences didn t just involve slavery but it also
included cultural, economic, political, and power differences. A major disputation between the two
sides was whether the new territories and states should have legalized slavery. Northerners worried
that if slavery crept northward, slaves would take jobs that white workers might otherwise be hired

worried that free states and territories abutting slave states might harbor fugitive slaves and

Edward had the closet door opened just a crack, and it was just enough to see William standing over
his desk. Edward readied his handgun, intent on fulfilling his contract. Just then, Edward began
hearing the whispering again. Suddenly, One began speaking, sounding as if

Video Game Violence And Its Effects On Gamers
Video Game Violence and its effects on Gamers In recent years there has been a significant
increase of shooting incidents, specifically in America. When there is a shooting event the media
is quick to question if the suspect had a history of playing violent video games. There is already the
initial connection between video game violenceand aggression; but is this connection scientifically
correct? This topic interests me because of the increase in school shootings and violence. I have
personally heard many times that video game violence has led to many adolescents to extreme
forms of violence. Through what has been said in the media I decided to research the topic myself.
This is a current event issue that is a present reality for many college students. Does video game
violence directly relate to human violence? Does video game violence effect aggression? Does
technological advances and violent content effect humans and their aggression? Does violent video
games cause hostel thoughts? While researching the connection between video game violence and
violence in children I came across communication theories that can help us understand how these
two connect and effect people. From the text, Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond: An
Introduction to Modern Electronic Media there was research done to settle a debate coming from
research done in the early 60 s. The second round of research results came with two conflicting
theories. Catharsis theory and stimulation

Waterfall Short Story
Waterfall The story of how I jumped off a waterfall starts one brisk morning in Costa Rica. My
brother, my dad, and I woke up pretty early given the fact that we were on vacation. I wasn t too
thrilled about losing out on a few hours of sleep, but my brother didn t seem to mind. As I
stepped out into the cool Costa Rican air I wasn t sure I was going to enjoy the hike we would
be going on. My dad said There is a waterfall at the end of the trail, and I think we can swim in
the water beneath it. None of that really excited me. I had seen quite a few waterfalls on other
trips that I had been on and didn t think they were anything super special. On top of that, I could
walk down to the beach and swim if I really wanted to. I would much rather go to the beach and
boogie board than go see a waterfall. After a short discussion, I reluctantly got in the car. It was a
long ride to the start of the trail, so I was able to get a little more sleep. For most of the ride I
looked out the window at the infinite amount of trees. I don t think I had ever seen more trees in
my life. They were everywhere. On both sides of the road there were tall trees with long vines
hanging from them. The thing that I found more amazing was how dense the forest was. I could
barely see five feet into the trees because it was so dark. The trees blocked out just about every
inch of sunlight. I remember my brother asking What happens if you get lost in there? . I answered
Well you would probably never

Types Of Conbols And Definition
C CONSTANTS
These are also known as literals and are defined as the fixed values. This means they cannot be
altered. They may be floating type, integer type, character type etc. It may also be defined as
Variables, but there values cannot be changed.
The string literals are written in the double quotes. These characters may be plain characters or
may be escape characters also.
Defining Constants
пѓјThe #define Preprocessor
It is one of the way to define constants as...
#define value of identifier
Example illustrating as....
#include
#define VARIABLE ONE 20
#define VARIABLE TWO 60
#define NEWLINE n int main() { int ADD; ADD = VARIABLE ONE + VARIABLE TWO;

Just as in case of mathematics we can make calculations, similarly here also we can do same. It
may also be noted that it is one of the simplest task that the C programming performs. There are
following types of operators as...
пѓјArithmetic Operators
It performs the simple mathematical addition, subtraction, division, modulus, multiplication,
incremental and decrement operators. Example illustrating it as....
#include int main()
{
int a = 11; int b = 110; int c ; c = a + b; printf( addition is %dn , c ); c = a b; printf( subt. is %dn ,
c ); c = a * b; printf( multip. c is %dn , c ); c = b / a; printf( div. is %dn , c ); c = a % b; printf(
modulus is %dn , c ); c = a++; printf( inc. is %dn , c ); c = a ; printf( decr. is %dn , c );
}
Result...
sum is 121 sub. is 99 multip. is 1210 div. is 10. modulus is 0 inc. is 12 dec. is 10
пѓјRelational Operators
This simply relates the operators as which includes greater than, less than, not equal to, greater than
or equal to, less than or equal to as....
#include int main()
{
int a = 21; int b = 10; int c ; if( a == b ) { printf( a is equal to bn ); } else { printf( a is not equal to
bn ); } if ( a b ) { printf( a is less than bn ); } else { printf( a is not less than bn ); } if ( a b ) {

Essay on Reality Television Shows
In 1968 American artist Andy Warhol said In the future, everybody will be famous for 15 minutes.
The expression is normally linked to people in the entertainment industry and more recently related
to those figures, involved in Reality TV.
There is no exact definition of Reality Television and people also have different opinions of what
it is. But it tends be a combination of genres such as: documentary, drama and many other genre s
depending on the type show. It can also be described as a hybrid of non fiction and entertainment
elements .

This deliberate manipulation begins to question the authenticity of reality TV. In almost every
episode of MIC there is some sort of gathering where the majority of the cast get together and either
resolve or worsen current issues.
Observation and surveillance is an element of documentaries, reality television is dependant on
observation. The constant visuals, allows us into the peoples live and eventually lead us to form
emotional connections with them. Professor of media studies Mark Andrejevic, this is a natural
outcome of the culture of CCTV we live in now.
Reality television is suggesting that surveillance can be fun! .
Voyeurism. A voyeur is a peeping tom. Many commentators believe that reality television has
moved beyond surveillance into voyeurism. Audiences are positioned as peeping toms who gain
pleasure from the exhibitionism of the participants. There is also voyeuristic pleasure to be gained
from knowing the emotions displayed are real. If someone is crying, for instance, it means they are
really upset.
We enjoy the dramatization performed in each episode, this eventually hooks us and you feel as if
you must continue watch to find out what happen in the next episode to fill a void created by not

Married With A Family Vs Single Life
Married with a family Vs Single life. Marriage is a beautiful aspect in a persons life. When a
person is single they tend to live a life that is a different kind of lifestyle. Marriage is when one
person scarifies their needs to help fulfill the other person s needs that they love and care for.
While being single, that person only cares about themselves and fulfill s their own needs with what
makes them happy. The contrasts between being married with a family and being single are
freedom, communication, and financial issues. To begin with, being married with a family comes
with responsibilities such as having less freedom. By having less freedom the wifeor husbandtakes
care of the kids which takes a lot of the time. Also having jobs can take up the freedom of a
marriagecouple. When a person is single they have all the freedom they want. Being single they
can do whatever they desire such as going out, having the time of their life. Also, they are not
tied down to another person. In some situations if a married couple doesn t have kids that can
mean here freedom consist of spending time with there spouse which take up the other spouse or
both of there time and freedom. With being single they don t have the responsibility for no one
but themselves. Also with being single has the advantage of the person who doesn t have to worry
about pleasing there freedom for there spouse. In addition, being married with a family or being
single, communication is a big part of keeping

Sociological Theories Essay
Sociological theory creates ways to understand the social world by having different theories to
explain understand social life. It aids to make sense of this social world. It draws together a wide
range of perspectives to help provide the fullest picture. (Macionis Plummer p.36) It shows that one
theory can explain something that another cannot. My aim is to answer this question with reference
to both functionalism and conflict theory. This will be done by comparing and contrasting both
theories in relation to their perspectives on both suicide and gender discrimination as social issues
relevant to this day and age. Functionalism and conflict perspectives are both macro theories. This
means that they focus on the big picture, for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Turner, p.112) Functional analysis established itself as a way of bringing to light the
significance of the institutional order and connecting it with the unintentional consequences of
social action. (Turner, p.121) On page 35 of Back et al. it states that Durkheim s argument is
that classification is a process of marking off , of showing things that are related, but have
distinct points of difference to another. Functionalism assumes that society s social institutions
perform important functions to help ensure social stability. Rapid social change threatens social
order, but slow social change is desirable. Durkheim believed that the individual has no way of
limiting passions, so the moral authority of society must do this. Individual aspirations are
limited two ways, by socialisation and social integration. Socialisation helps us learn the rules of
society and the need to cooperate. Social integration allows us to integrate into society and
reinforce our respect for its rules. These both, as stated by Durkheim create a strong collective
conscience. Suicide, as an example of a social issue, is explained with the functionalism
perspective by not focusing on the individual unhappiness, but instead on the group rates of suicide
resulting form external forces. This may be caused by normlessness, which may result from
periods of rapid social change, and people find it hard and unclear about how to deal with problems
in their life. This frustration

Malaria Case Study
Following the infected female Anopheles mosquito bite the incubation period varies. The type of
Plasmodium parasite responsible for the infection plays a big factor in the time frame. Antimalarial
drugs may also increase the length of the Malaria incubation period. Estimated time frame is 9 14
days for Plasmodium falciparum, 12 18 days for Plasmodiumvivax and Plasmodium ovale and 18
40 days for Plasmodium malarie. Delays between exposure and development of symptoms in
patients can result in misdiagnoses or delayed diagnosis because of reduced clinical suspicion of
the healthcare provider (CDC, 2017. It s important to remind healthcare providers of any recent

Patients with Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium ovale infections may experience additional
relapses after months or even years without symptoms. Relapses occur because these two parasites
have dormant liver stage parasites that may reactivate (CDC, 2017). Treatment to prevent chances
of relapse is available. Patients should follow the treatment of their first attack.
Diagnosis
It is critical to obtain a history of recent or remote travel to an endemic area for patients with
suspected Malaria. Also, it is important to acquire about the patient s immune status, age,
pregnancy status, medications, allergies and any medical conditions he or she may have.
Diagnosis of Malaria depends on the demonstration of parasites in the blood, usually by
microscopy (CDC, 2017). Workup for Malaria depends on patient s chief complaint. Patients will
get labs drawn to check their hemoglobin, liver function, renal function, electrolytes, and white
blood cells. Rapid HIV test may be ordered in select cases. There are alternative diagnostic methods
to blood smear testing. Alternative methods are typically used if laboratory does not have sufficient
experience in detecting parasites in blood smears. Rapid diagnostic tests give results within 15 20
minutes and are considered qualitative tests. These tests detect one or more of the following
antigens; Histidine rich protein 2, Plasmodium Lactate Dehydrogenase and Aldolase. Three other
alternative tests are molecular techniques

Prelude To A Kiss
Prelude to a Kiss by Craig Lucas, is about a newly married couple that experiences a supernatural
event that will test their love and commitment towards each other. This play was a very
interesting and comedic read. Prelude to a kiss is a play any audience would enjoy and get
something out of it . Therefore, UNI ought to produce Prelude to a Kiss next year or at least
soon. It is a great romantic comedy for the audience to see and will leave the audience
appreciating their life more. Prelude to a Kiss is set in the modern times, probably around the
1990 s for it has some modern elements but some of the jokes they give or things they talk about
seem dated. The time span of the play is the time it takes to perform it, but it usually has... Show

The author Craig Lucas never gave an explanation on why there was a supernatural element just
there was one and it made the conflict. Beside the supernatural aspect there was some spirituality
in the play. Craig Lucas never mentioned in the play that they were religious but they had a
christian wedding so there must have a spiritual element in there beside the supernatural. The
language of the play was very modern, but when Rita and the Old Man changed bodies, the Old
Man would say many oldish sayings or just many things that didn t fit with how Rita and Peter
talked. Also, many times when one of the characters were speaking, other characters speak over
them so they did a lot of overlapping. At times it was kind of confusing and chaotic but it just
added a human element. The way they spoke made them seem nervous and willing to fill up
empty void as to not have awkward silence. The nature of the play was very evident in the script.
Peter was the only one who ever acknowledged the audiences, in fact he spoke directly to the
audience in several different occasions. So this play has a presentational contract with a non
realistic vibe due to having a supernatural occurrence happen on stage. Craig

Literature Review On Pancreas
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
1.Pancreas
1.1. Anatomy and History of Pancreas:
The pancreas is an organ situated just below the stomach and it contributes to the digestion of
foodstuffs and metabolism regulation. The pancreas was first described by the Greek anatomist,
Herophilus of Chalcedon around 300 B.C. and later named by Rufus of Ephesus around 100 AD
with the Greek term for all (pan) flesh (creas) because of its fleshy appearance . However, the
function of this tissue wasn t known until the 1850 s when Claude Bernard demonstrated that
pancreatic juice could digest fats and starches. Then, in 1869, Paul Langerhans described islands of
cells embedded within the fleshy tissue and these were later named islets of Langerhans in his
honour. Research by von Mering and Minkowski in 1889 was the first to connect the pancreas to
Diabetes Mellitus and later Eugene Opie provided evidence that it was the islets of Langerhans that
were involved in diabetes. (Busnardo et al.,1983). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Glucose is transported into the pancreatic ОІ cell by type 2 glucose transporters (GLUT2). Once
inside, the first step in glucose metabolism is the phosphorylation of glucose to produce glucose 6
phosphate. This step is catalyzed by glucokinase; and its further metabolism in mitochondria alters
the adenosine triphosphate (ATP)/ adenosine diphosphate (ADP) ratio that leads to closure of ATP
sensitive K+ channels. It results in membrane depolarisation and opening of voltage gated calcium
channels. The subsequent increase in cytosolic free calcium ion (Ca2+) cause phosphorylation of
protein kinase which induce insulin secretion via exocytosis [(Ashcroft et al., 1994; Lang, 1999 and
Henquin, 2000) as shown in fig.

Review Of The City Of Ladies
The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is
acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine
numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the
City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men
have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will
serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the
argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to
accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect
because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance
because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is
essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues
with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in
the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very
well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a
crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn
womankind. She convinces herself that women must

Violence And Violence Among Children
Introduction While the rate of crime in the United States has decreased overall an increase in
senseless violence being committed by young people leaves individuals trying to understand what
is to blame. It is encouraging that the rate of crimes of violence in the United States has dropped
about 15 percent since 1999. However, self reported violent offending by American youth has not
declined. (Funk et al. 1) Work place violence, road rage disputes and mass school shootings are
just a few examples of violence that has become common place in society. Adolescent
perpetrating violent crimes has been on the rise as is evident with the number of shootings and
physical altercations in recent years. Many have tried to identify what is causing this increase in
violence among children. The growing problem of violence and aggressive behavior in society is
speculated to be credited in part to the rise of violent video games.
Background
Over the past few decades the average person s daily routine has changed drastically through the
rapid development and advancements in technology. Most people living today can remember a time
when not every person had a cell phone and smartphones sounded more like science fiction than a
reality. As technology has made advancements the world of entertainment and the way people
spend their free time has changed. One sector that has seen drastic improvements is that of the
world of video games. The interaction levels, intricacies, complexity and

Obviously, it is a serious risk to the environment, and comes with many more cons than pros. Why damage our world long term not that we haven t done that already when we can just find other ways to get water for the Californians? First of all, desalination is highly expensive. According to the NewsELA article titled, California Tries One Solution to Water Problems Treating Seawater, by the Sacramento Bee staff, getting water will cost $2,257 per acre foot. This is double the price of the authority s most expensive supply of water now. Double! Already the U.S. is investing too much money in things that could be solved in a much more practical way. We don t need desalination to provide water to people. Clearly, desalination is not a realistic idea, due to the cost of it. People s water bills will go shoot through the roof, and the project is expected to cost $1 billion. One acre foot can only serve two average homes per year, meaning that desalination will only meet 7% of San Diego s annual water needs. 7% is not worth it. 7% will do nothing but damage the oceans and ocean life. Think about it this way: say that a county has 150 homes in it (which isn t even a close number, by the way). Now take those 150 homes and multiply that by 2,257. How Did Castles Change In England Between 1066 And 1500 Explain why castles changed in England between 1066 and 1500 Castles were extremely important during 1066 1500 and they changed overtime to get more protection. A castle is a fortification that was used in the middle ages to protect territory against an invasion. The Macro Environment The macro environment Introduction Marketing s role is to match the capabilities and resources within the organisation with market opportunities external to the organisation. Understanding customer needs is central to achieving this aim, but marketers must also be aware of factors that can cause customer needs to evolve. The operation of the economic environment is affected by government economic policy. In struggling economies, consumer purchasing power is reduced. Marketing The economic problems faced by some countries have meant that some international marketers cannot be paid in hard currency. To make sales, therefore, they have had to barter their products. An example of this was the barter of Pepsi Cola for Russian vodka by the Pepsi company and the former Soviet government. Nature This is important to marketers insofar as it is the source of many raw materials and fluctuation in supply can affect the prices paid for purchases. Furthermore, the increasing cost of some raw materials has meant that recycling of some materials, such as aluminium, has become economic. He s urging Californians to vote for a new direction in the Democratic party (Sanders Ad), and by virtue of that, put an end to the apparent corruption and misappropriation of this prized token of trade. In a rousing and inspirational commercial the Senator wanted us, as citizens of the Golden State, to not only vote for Bernie on June 7, but to get excited and maybe even a little angry about how money is the biggest and most corrupt problem here in America, particularly in regards to the issue of Tuition Free Public College, where he encouraged us to fight for our right to free higher education and the promise of a greater nation. With better educated citizens strengthening our future economy, and a solid plan to fund tuition free college for everyone by taxing the abundance of dollars being traded in Wall Street, Mr. Sanders has a confident and trustworthy proposal to get more Americans into a degree, however in the context of this 30 second television commercial he seems to fall short on his reasoning to back these ideas, and relies chiefly on the emotions of his constituents by simply reminding them of his views. Then, the radio came. In the 1920s and 30s the radio impacted culture by informing the public of news, bringing together America s music and sports, and even uniting America to stop the Great Depressionand restore faith in government. The radio was first invented in 1895. At first, people were unaware of the possible uses radios would eventually have. Twenty five years after the radio was invented, the beginning of commercial broadcasting radio stations began with the KDKA in Pittsburgh. During that time, the war began a mass production of radios which let more common households own them instead of radios being a rich people s toy, as they were considered previously. Radios sales spread as radios were cheaper and people had more money to spend in the 1920s. By the end of the decade more than twelve million households owned radios. Radios changed America through news as people changed from reading newspapers to listening to the radio starting November 2, 1920, which was more convenient and frequent. Unlike newspapers, radios could broadcast information live instead of waiting for the next day s paper, therefore they began to rival the popularity of newspapers (Britannica). Theory of Operant Conditioning Theory of Operant Conditioning Instrumental conditioning, otherwise known as operant conditioning is a theory that B.F Skinner came up with and is defined as a learning process by which the consequence of an operant response affects the likelihood of the response recurring in the future. Basically, operant conditioningis a stimulus response prototype that when reinforced, conditions individuals or organisms response to a desired behavior (Huitt, W., Hummel, J., 1997) Our behaviors are shaped to be desirable or undesirable through reinforcements, punishment and extermination. Overall, operant conditioning is seen to be voluntary reaction that precedes the stimulus and the reinforcement. Classical conditioning is one of the techniques used in behavioral training. The process of classical conditioning works with the introduction of neutral stimuli before the original stimulus and the same reaction is elicited from the organism even without the presence of the original stimulus. The Pavlov dog salivated with every sight of food as the original stimulus for the salivation. When a neutral stimulus was introduced like a bell that was rang each time before it was fed, the dog started salivating at the ringing of the bell even before the food was availed. Another way to fight the effects of micro gravity is to create an artificial gravity. Creating artificial gravity can be done using one of two techniques, a rotation or acceleration. The entire spacecraft could rotate, or a single section of the spacecraft could do the rotation. This would give the astronauts the opportunity to live or weight train in a non weightless environment (Hsu, 2010). Video Game Violence And Its Effects On Gamers Video Game Violence and its effects on Gamers In recent years there has been a significant increase of shooting incidents, specifically in America. When there is a shooting event the media is quick to question if the suspect had a history of playing violent video games. There is already the initial connection between video game violenceand aggression; but is this connection scientifically correct? This topic interests me because of the increase in school shootings and violence. I have personally heard many times that video game violence has led to many adolescents to extreme forms of violence. Through what has been said in the media I decided to research the topic myself. This is a current event issue that is a present reality for many college students. Does video game violence directly relate to human violence? Does video game violence effect aggression? Does technological advances and violent content effect humans and their aggression? Does violent video games cause hostel thoughts? While researching the connection between video game violence and violence in children I came across communication theories that can help us understand how these two connect and effect people. From the text, Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond: An Introduction to Modern Electronic Media there was research done to settle a debate coming from research done in the early 60 s. The second round of research results came with two conflicting theories. Catharsis theory and stimulation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Waterfall Short Story Waterfall The story of how I jumped off a waterfall starts one brisk morning in Costa Rica. My brother, my dad, and I woke up pretty early given the fact that we were on vacation. I wasn t too thrilled about losing out on a few hours of sleep, but my brother didn t seem to mind. As I stepped out into the cool Costa Rican air I wasn t sure I was going to enjoy the hike we would be going on. My dad said There is a waterfall at the end of the trail, and I think we can swim in the water beneath it. None of that really excited me. I had seen quite a few waterfalls on other trips that I had been on and didn t think they were anything super special. On top of that, I could walk down to the beach and swim if I really wanted to. I would much rather go to the beach and boogie board than go see a waterfall. After a short discussion, I reluctantly got in the car. It was a long ride to the start of the trail, so I was able to get a little more sleep. For most of the ride I looked out the window at the infinite amount of trees. I don t think I had ever seen more trees in my life. They were everywhere. On both sides of the road there were tall trees with long vines hanging from them. The thing that I found more amazing was how dense the forest was. I could barely see five feet into the trees because it was so dark. The trees blocked out just about every inch of sunlight. I remember my brother asking What happens if you get lost in there? . I answered Well you would probably never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When a person is single they tend to live a life that is a different kind of lifestyle. Marriage is when one person scarifies their needs to help fulfill the other person s needs that they love and care for. While being single, that person only cares about themselves and fulfill s their own needs with what makes them happy. The contrasts between being married with a family and being single are freedom, communication, and financial issues. To begin with, being married with a family comes with responsibilities such as having less freedom. By having less freedom the wifeor husbandtakes care of the kids which takes a lot of the time. Also having jobs can take up the freedom of a marriagecouple. It aids to make sense of this social world. It draws together a wide range of perspectives to help provide the fullest picture. (Turner, p.112) Functional analysis established itself as a way of bringing to light the significance of the institutional order and connecting it with the unintentional consequences of social action. (Turner, p.121) On page 35 of Back et al. it states that Durkheim s argument is that classification is a process of marking off , of showing things that are related, but have distinct points of difference to another. Functionalism assumes that society s social institutions perform important functions to help ensure social stability. Rapid social change threatens social order, but slow social change is desirable. Durkheim believed that the individual has no way of limiting passions, so the moral authority of society must do this. Individual aspirations are limited two ways, by socialisation and social integration. Socialisation helps us learn the rules of society and the need to cooperate. Social integration allows us to integrate into society and reinforce our respect for its rules. These both, as stated by Durkheim create a strong collective conscience. Suicide, as an example of a social issue, is explained with the functionalism perspective by not focusing on the individual unhappiness, but instead on the group rates of suicide resulting form external forces. This may be caused by normlessness, which may result from periods of rapid social change, and people find it hard and unclear about how to deal with problems in their life. This frustration ... The language of the play was very modern, but when Rita and the Old Man changed bodies, the Old Man would say many oldish sayings or just many things that didn t fit with how Rita and Peter talked. Also, many times when one of the characters were speaking, other characters speak over them so they did a lot of overlapping. • 50. Literature Review On Pancreas REVIEW OF LITERATURE 1.Pancreas 1.1. Anatomy and History of Pancreas: The pancreas is an organ situated just below the stomach and it contributes to the digestion of foodstuffs and metabolism regulation. The pancreas was first described by the Greek anatomist, Herophilus of Chalcedon around 300 B.C. and later named by Rufus of Ephesus around 100 AD with the Greek term for all (pan) flesh (creas) because of its fleshy appearance . However, the function of this tissue wasn t known until the 1850 s when Claude Bernard demonstrated that pancreatic juice could digest fats and starches. Then, in 1869, Paul Langerhans described islands of cells embedded within the fleshy tissue and these were later named islets of Langerhans in his honour. Research by von Mering and Minkowski in 1889 was the first to connect the pancreas to Diabetes Mellitus and later Eugene Opie provided evidence that it was the islets of Langerhans that were involved in diabetes. • 51. Review Of The City Of Ladies The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in the story of The City of Ladies. However, she faces a crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn womankind. She convinces herself that women must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
