Feminist Novel Like Water For Chocolate
Like Water for Chocolate is a novel which introduces many different types of women with different
capabilities and characteristics. These women possess the ability to make life work out for themselves
and disregard all of the obstacles in their way. People say that it is about Feminism. Feminism is the
belief that all women should be allowed the same opportunities, rights, and respect as men because
they are both human. It is for this reason that I believe that without a doubt, that Like Water for
Chocolate is a feminist novel.
Although others may disagree and say that it isn t a feminist novel because Tita in the end couldn t
resist to stay away from Pedro who was a very bad influence from her, Tita, don t go. Don t leave me

she says, I ve never needed a man for anything, all by myself, I ve done all right with my ranch and
my daughters (80). This shows that Mama Elena didn t need a husband to help her with anything,
although the man is suppose to be the hardworker. Another reason is when Mame Elena says, Men

End World Hunger
I went to Feed the Children for my community service which was a amazing experience because we
learned a lot about how the company works and when they are most busy and what they do. I made
several boxes of food for the homeless which included two boxes of cereal, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti
noodle, greens beans, and a lot of other food. We learned about the colors of the boxes and why they
are different colors. There are three colors of boxes green, blue, and pink. Green boxes are filled with
all the foods, blue is filled with stuff for hygiene, and pink is filled with extra stuff like perfume and
jewelry. The boxes that I packed were the green boxes which was really fun to do because ... Show

also ways the problem can be solved. Feed the Children has provided food to over 10 million families
annually through their agencies domestically. They also volunteer at food events and partner with

hunger there are also a lot of ways we can help the communities and take action. One thing you can do
to help end hunger and help an organization is volunteer on a food corporation and send food. You can

Comparison Of 1983 Scarace And Tony Montana
One big difference between the two movies is the main characters. 1932 Scarface s main character
goes by the name of Tony Comante. He is an Italian mobster making his way up in the mafia that is
based out of Chicago s south side. In contrast, the 1983 Scarface s main character is a Cuban refugee
named Tony Montana who is based out of Miami. Tony Montana is desperately trying to make it to the
top and he won t stop at anything to get there. Due to being fifty years apart, another big difference is
in the original tony is involved with bootlegging and selling beer. Where as, tony in the remake is
dealing cocaine. This difference shows light on the context of when each movie was produced and
how crime has changed over the years. A noticeable difference

Greed Being a Problem in Sold
All Lakshmi wants is a new tin roof for her little hut. But, her family does not have enough money to
buy one because of her stepfather s gambling problems. After people come for the money he owes
them, he forces Lakshmi to work in the city as a maid. Lakshmi and her stepfather visit a lady that will
take her to the city and he sells Lakshmi to her. Lakshmi and this new lady who is called Auntie travel
to the city and after a few days the pair ends up at The Happiness House ,a brothel, where we meet

One of these people is Lakshmi s stepfather, he sells Lakshmi, his daughter, to get more money for
gambling and alcohol. All he wants from lakshmi is money to live better even if it causes suffering to
his wife who is distraught because of Lakshmi leaving. Ama wipes her cheek with the hem of her
shawl. Your step father has said you must go to the city and earn your keep as a maid. ( McCormick

Mumtaz and forced to be with men so that she can make more money. All of this money is then given
to Mumtaz. Mumtaz forces these girls into being with men just so they are not kicked out and forced
to live on the streets. In the article Daughters For Sale: India s Child Slavery Scourge, Anne Backhaus
says Out of poverty and desperation, parents sell their daughters, and human traffickers wait at train
stations for runaways and scour for orphans in monsoon ravaged villages. This quote is similar to what
happened to Lakshmi at the beginning of Sold when her stepfather sold her so he could afford to pay
off his gambling debts. Greed is the main reason that people treat each other badly all so they can

Zara Global Chain Essay
Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer driven
global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy, product
design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results. Zara was the
largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on account being a better
established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara played the lead role in increasing
the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international operations and it continued to be the
principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected slight drop in the share of the group s total
sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic capability, core competences and assets routines
and values criteria, predominantly on resource based view. The resource based view can be described
as the competitive advantage of an organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities
(Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005). In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as
internally heterogeneous and possess exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010).
Furthermore, the resource based view emphasizes the internal capabilities of the organization in
formulation strategy to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in its markets and industries
(Henry, 2011). Strategic Capability Firstly, we assess and define Zara s strategic capability.

Essay about Wage Compression and Symbolic Egalitarianism
An organisations internal pay structure can affect the way employees perform to the business strategy.
Where a workers performance not only depends on the level of pay they receive (Solow, 1979, in
Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003), but also takes into consideration their pay compared to workers above and
below them, those within the same occupational group, and the external labour market (Akerlof and
Yellen, 1990). Pfeffer (2005) argues that wage compression, which is the act of reducing the size of
the pay differences among employees, improves productivity. To gain competitive advantage,
organisations need to acknowledge not only hierarchical wage compression (between management
and employees) but also the differences between individuals at ... Show more content on

There is also a range of returns employees can receive; the psychological relational returns (learning
opportunities, employment security), and total compensation returns which are transactional (benefits
such as work/life balance, allowances, as well as cash compensation and bonuses) (Milkovich,
Newman, Gerhart, 2011).
However, the validity of Pfeffers argument is contestable. Although compressing the pay structure
supports fairness and equality, there is also the problem of creating the opposite outcome. When wage
differentials are eliminated, it may not be perceived as fair and create a negative effect on effort and
motivation (Kraft, 1994). A Swedish study demonstrates this negative effect, whereby the higher paid
workers morale and effort subsided leading to lower outputs as they did not feel valued for their skills
(Hibbs and Locking, 2000, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003). Therefore, wage differentials aid in
distinguishing between workers abilities and responsibilities to organisational performance (Beaumont
Harris, 2003). Theorists have thus developed a counter argument, that it is in fact wage dispersion that
leads to increased effort and performance (Lallemand, Plasman, Rycx, 2004). Instead of emphasising
co operation, Lazear and Rosen s (1981) tournament theory highlights the need to differentiate pay, as
larger variations are more motivating than smaller or equal differences.

Huck Finn
Huckleberry Finn is a young boy who struggles with complex issues such as empathy, guilt, fear, and
morality in Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . There are two different sides to Huck.
One is the subordinate, easily influenced boy whom he becomes when under the guide of Tom
Sawyer. His other persona surfaces when he is on his own, thinking of his friendship with Jim and
agonizing over which to trust: his heart or his conscience. When Huck s ongoing inner struggle with
his own duality forces him to makes difficult and controversial choices, the reader sees a boy in the
throes of moral development. And it is, indeed, a struggle. Although Huck believes in the rules of the
harshly racist society in which he lives, a deeper and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene lets the reader have a peek at Huck s morality and sound heart. The next trick Huck plays
on Jim creates a lot of genuine fear and tension for Jim. It is right after Huck and Jim have gotten lost
in the fog and Huck finds and climbs onto the raft while Jim is sleeping. Jim is so relieved to find
Huck back safe and sound that he hugs and squeezes him for a long time until Huck tells him that they
were never separated. Jim believes this until he sees the evidence that they were, and then he
reprimands Huck.
Nonetheless, Huck feels terrible and says, It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go
and humble myself to a nigger but I done it, and I warn t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither. This is
the first time that Huck ever apologizes to or shows empathy towards Jim. In his previous tricks, he
either didn t care at all, or just felt guilty, but here he shows that he is actually concerned about Jim s
feelings. This progression in Huck shows that his morals are developing along with his friendship with
Jim.
As Huck and Jim s friendship develops, so does Huck s empathy for Jim. When Huck encounters the
two men on the river who ask if Huck s friend is white or black, Huck silently struggles between
following his conscience by turning Jim in, or trusting his loyal heart. Huck knows what will happen
to Jim if he turns him in.

Positive Aspects Of The Industrial Revolution
But with the Industrial Revolution and introduction of various industrial techniques... we have a
situation in which what we are consuming is not good nutritionally or ecologically. (Marvin Harris)
The Industrial Revolution was a dramatic change from farm to factory. During 1760 to about 1840
society transitioned to new manufacturing processes by using complex machinery. The explosion of
new inventions began in England because of the abundance of copper, iron, and tin that was mined,
several river, and bounties of woolen cloth and linen. These natural resources helped improve methods
of transportation, sources of energy and power, and where people got food and clothing. The
industrialization of towns across England happened because people ... Show more content on

AOL into the light for Time Warner. America on Line realizes the value of a company as established
as Time Warner. AOL is a New School organization. Steve Case and Bob Pittman also had the

The Power Of Love In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Love is a powerful emotion, capable of turning the most rational people into crazed, irrational lovers.
In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare centralizes his comedy around the theme of human love
as a powerful, transformative force. Through the use of a magical love potion, the characters within
the play are blinded by fierce passion and their sight is narrowed to see only what the lover selectively
chooses to see. As a result of the power of love, the sensible become irrational and emotions that stem
from love, such as jealousy and desperation, give birth to hysterical chaos. In A Midsummer s Night
Dream, Shakespeare presents love as an uncontrollable, indiscriminate, and transformative force that
prevents those infected with its power

Animal Abuse Is The Act Of Cruelty And Infliction Of Pain...

Animal Abuse Animal abuse is the act of cruelty and infliction of pain on non human animals. Dogs
are the most common victims of the abuse. How do you feel about people abusing poor, innocent
animals? I strongly believe there should be a greater punishment for the crimes committed. The
controversy has grown greatly in the last few years with the increase of most abuse cases. Animal
rights activists are working hard to bring success into the movement. In addition to being viewed as
thugs, activists are also seen as crack heads. This identity wasn t just given to them though. Not long
ago, they splattered red paint on unsuspecting pedestrians wearing fur coats in New York City. While
working with the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) activists showed that at least six
billion chickens will die in slaughterhouses this year. In the recent past, it has been hard to find legal
protection for animals; however, some of the nation s top law schools are beginning to offer majors in
animal rights law. This is a big step toward the future of defending animals in our country s federal
court. One of the most important victories for the animal rights movement happened in the month of
October in 2000. The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) agreed to settle a lawsuit that
was trying to broaden the view on the Animal Welfare Act of 1966. This act stopped the treatment of
large animals in

The Great Prince Of Denmark, Hamlet, By William Shakespeare
The Elizabethan era consisted of a time where women were viewed as minorities in society and were
often thought to have been devised in the weaker image of men. Being given limited political,
economical and social freedom led to their diminutive role in literature. In contrast to this degrading
trend, Shakespeare introduced femininity in a new light. He created female characters who contradict
the stereotypes of his time, impacting both the plot and surrounding characters of his plays. One of his
most famous tragedies, Hamlet, revolves around the great prince of Denmark, Hamlet, who encounters
the apparition of his deceased father, the former king. The ghost asks that Hamlet seeks revenge upon
Claudius, his uncle and new father, for it was he who murdered him and seduced the queen, as a plan
to gain top status in society. Faking madness, Hamlet strives to kill Claudius, and although successful,
many other lives, including his own, pass in the meanwhile . Ophelia, the daughter of the king s top
advisors, finds herself caught in the middle of this situation as people assume Hamlet has gone mad
out of pure love for her. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, soon faces the consequences of participating in
her husband s murder. Despite the women in Shakespeare s Hamlet being classified as fragile and
submissive, staying true to the beliefs of the time period, they are exceptionally significant figures in
the progression of the plot in this bloody tragedy. This is demonstrated by Gertrude

The Shepherd Motif In The Bible
Roman, in response to your thread you quote Laniak as saying Isaiah was clear about satire of biblical
leadership: to rule is to serve and to suffer, and to lead is to be both shepherd and sacrificial lamb
(Laniak, 129). This reference indeed is a clear demonstration of the shepherd motif in the Old
Testament. I believe I can rightly say that this text epitomizes the doctrine we have been surveying
through the reading of Laniak s book and the Bible. As we have been scouring through the Scriptures,
with the help of Laniak, we can easily find the shepherd metaphor used of God and of human leaders
throughout the Old and New Testament. Especially when it is used in referenced to the coming

you delve into the prophet Ezekiel, you make use of the verse that I have shortened to refer to the

Why Should We Have Mandated Early Intervention And Early...

Final Exam
Why should we have mandated early intervention and early childhood education for children with
disabilities and their families? Provide a rationale for each. 8 pts.
The benefits of early intervention (EI) and early childhood education (ECE) are very clear. They help
improve children s skills, knowledge, and way of navigating the world while having some form of a
disability. EI is usually provided in the child s home, giving their family the opportunity to learn more
about their child and how to assist in creating a better life for him/her. It also gets the entire family
involved in the care of the child, which is important for parents who feel that they may not be able to
make a difference in their child s life or for parents who believe it is their fault that their child has a
disability. Through education and services provided, the family will be able to function as efficiently
as would a family who doesn t have a member with a disability.
Early childhood education is especially helpful for each individual child with a disability. It puts them
in a place of inclusion while improving their language and social skills and gives them a place outside
of the home to achieve goals that are more individualized and about them rather than their family.
Being in an inclusive environment with peers their age would increase their social skills and help them
to navigate the world around with less barriers. These skills

How To Get Approved For Your First Mortgage
Do first time buyers have it desperately tough in this day and age? Darn right they do because the cost
on housing is subject to a massive unsustainable bubble, and yet government groups and even banks
keep trying to make it easier for first time buyers to get a mortgage, which in turn keeps the cost of
houses prohibitively high. If you are finding getting a mortgage really tough as a first time buyer, then
thank your lucky stars because it may mean that one day may you be able to afford a house of your
own because the price will have dropped. Here are some tips and plenty of advice to help you get your
first mortgage.
H3 Getting A Mortgage Is Harder These Days
Even though getting a mortgage is harder these days, it doesn t mean it is overly hard. In all honestly,
it is still pretty easy. The fact that a single parent of three with a full time job could buy a house that
was eight times his or her salary with no deposit was simply ridiculous. Those days are gone, but if
you have a 10% deposit on hand, then you can probably get a mortgage if your credit rating isn t too
bad.
Houses, apartments and most types of property are massively overpriced because it is so easy to get a
mortgage. Yet, if you want a higher chance of success and a higher chance of getting a good deal, then
you should plan ahead.

During an individual s lifetime the activities they involve themselves in impact on their many bodily

anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations. Subsequently
much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to

Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly short
but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the
archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section
(Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved
with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the
picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and
are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle
attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in
individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers
used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity
more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for

Analysis of Concrete Angel
Many generations view music as a form of entertainment only, so our society tends to overlook the
messages behind the music. Many artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners
about overlooked issues. Music spreads awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina
McBride used her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina
McBride recorded a song Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song is intended
for the general population that are bystanders because most people are aware of tragedies such as child
abuse, and most tragedies can be prevented. Through the elements of plot, character, and
foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young girl s abuse in order to call the
bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the song, the plot consists of multiple
bystanders. The bystander that is mentioned in verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t
ask/It s hard to see the pain behind the mask (lines 5 6). The teacher suspects the girl has an issue with
abuse, but she ignores her suspicions, assuming the girl is happy because she hides it well. The teacher
s reaction is a common experience for many adults because adults assume the child appears okay. The
following situation that involved a bystander was, Somebody cries in the middle of the night/The
neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16). The lyric states that

Fladeboes The Band of the Future.
The new Fladeboes factory will open up in Palmdale Ca. This location was selected because of its dry
weather; it has low levels of precipitation, and is close enough to Los Angeles to be marketed in major
city areas. Also, California has some of the major trade ports with China, so it would be very easy to
step into the foreign market. As this product would be marketed primarily to old people, California has
such a heavy population and a large part of that population consists or elderly people. Fladeboes
would be marketed in stores starting in L.A. and continuing up the beachside coast into Hollywood
and so forth. The land in Palmdale is quite cheap because of its dry climate, and thus would not cost as
much to open a factory there. Also, due to the relatively low unemployment rate in California areas, it
would be quite simple to find workers for the factory, as well as supervisors for the workers. In
addition, there is a recent major push in California for people to be healthy, organic foods and exercise
is a major motto of the Los Angeles people as well as the suburban areas outside the city. Therefore
people would be interested in the product, as it could track their health on a daily basis and could be
marketed in local health shops. The market in California for this product is huge, there is a common
stereotype that most people in Los Angeles areas are well to do and could definitely afford the
bracelet. Also, people in California seem to be wrapped up in fads, as well

Sherman Alexie s Subtle Sarcasm Essay
Sherman Alexie s Subtle Sarcasm
Sherman Alexie illustrates a subtle sarcasm that is very consistent among his stories. He conveys
many of the current social issues that seem to be constant among those of Indian heritage. His main
characters all have very similar characteristics: very laid back and socially conscious. An important
characteristic that his characters share is a sense of wit and cynicism which helps convey Alexie s
ideals in many regards.
The first rhetorical device Alexie utilizes is his methophorical use of his titles. In the piece The Lone
Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven he uses two characters from a movie that was very popular at
the time. However he puts the two characters against each other despite them ... Show more content on

The character is content with the notion that the clerk is observing him simple because he is Native
American despite the clerk also being Native American. He then also states a few sentences later: that
he also gives his girlfriend the same look that the clerk gives to him which seems to show that he
thinks that authority is corrupt. He shows his contempt for the clerk buy buying a creamsicle, which is
an ice cream bar that is orange flavored with a creamy white center, implying that the clerk is
attempting to be white. This way he ties the corruptness of authority with being white. He also shows
that this contempt of white authority is consistent among his people by telling the story of the two
boys who steal the car in This is what it means to say Phoenix, Arizona. The two are cheered for their
crime by the Native Americans in the reservation.
Alexie also illustrates throughout his stories the lack of community among his people. In This is what
it means to say Phoenix, Arizona he illustrates his opinion of the tribal council. In this case he shows
the robotic attributes of the council through the use of repetition when he asks the council for
assistance. Though his father is dead and the urgency of the matter the council still offers minimal
help. Alexie is also ardent in showing the hypocrisy that surrounds most of the situations in his stories,
such as the character that looks at his white girlfriend the same way the store clerk

Human Dignity in Relation to Universal Healthcare
Human Dignity is complex there is no solid definition but similar words such as value and worth arise
(ACU, 2014, 2.1.2) Many have different definition of what human dignity is these are two main
categories of what human dignity means to people: Category 1 Some understandings of human dignity
are based in the belief that it is something all humans already have, these are called Attributed Dignity
(Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Because we are human, OR Humans have special attributes
making us better then all living things Category 2 Other understandings of human dignity are based in
the belief that human dignity is something that people can acquire (or lose) this is known as Intrinsic
Dignity (Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Through their own sense of self worth OR Through
societies view and expectation of that person These categories are divide up into four sectors: 1A:
Humans have inherent worth simply because they are human. Many religious people hold this belief
as we are all created in God s image. Others claim we have priority over any other living thing on this
earth. 1B: Humans have inherent worth because they are distinctive and special. Through human
abilities (independent though that is rational and logical) makes us distinctive to any other species.
2A: People have dignity when I believe in my own worth. This takes into account the individuals
feelings, sense of pride and encouraging individuals to live a righteous life. 2B:

Influence of Ww1 on the Artwork of Early 20th Century
On August 1st 1914, Germany declared war on Russia, and on the 3rd, declared war on France.
Starting at the top of the previous page the first piece of artwork I chose to review is Max Beckmann s
piece Der Kriegsausbruch (Declaration of War), created in 1914 as the declarations of war had just
been announced. This is a drawing depicting the reaction of passers by in Berlin to the news of war
being declared. I chose this piece specifically because of the sketchy style of drawing. I find that the
looseness of his lines give the piece a feeling of anxiousness or even stress that I imagine many of the
citizens depicted in the piece were feeling at the time. The second piece I chose was created by artist,

Advantages Of Juvenile Delinquency
There are several ways that juvenile delinquency is measured in which each way consists of
advantages and disadvantages within the scope of measuring crimes and delinquency. The several
types of juvenile delinquency measuring crimes statistics are from collected from the Uniform Crime
Reporting Program (UCR), National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), Victimization
Surveys, and Self Report Studies.
The Uniform Crime Reporting Program consist of voluntarily combination reports from city, county
and state law enforcement agencies which are reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

the police whether it was from public citizen reporting or were discovered by the law enforcement
agency themselves. The collected data containing the number of arrests consist of individuals
committing the crime accounting for individual that may be arrested more than once within the time
frame between crimes. Then lastly, the persons arrested consisted of the actual number of person being
arrested and detailed personal information are collected such as the reasons for arrest, age,

Using Multiple Regression Project For New Stores
Multiple Regression Project Jay Ma MGSC6200, 50839 Facilitator: Ike Papadopoulos 05JUL2015
Introduction Pam and Susan s is a discount department store that currently has 250 chain stores
located throughout the South. To sustain its recent continuous expansion into the Border States and
Southwest, identification of the sites for new stores has become an essential factor of its increasing
strategic planning. The current store decisions are based on the traditional process of estimating sales
potential with demographic analyses, site visits and studies by the company s real estate department. A
subjective approach was developed to classify the potential sites to the competitive type of the trading
zone. However, there are ongoing concerns regarding the subjectivity of the competitive type
classifications, and whether this method can predict sales potentials at new sites. The goal of this
project is to build a multiple regression model based on the census data obtained from stores trading
zones and individual stores, to effectively predict sales potentials at new sites. Data The gathered data
contains demographics and economics of the trading zones, and size, composition and sales of the
store. There is a total of 13 major categories of variables including population (%black, % Spanish
speaking), total population , family income (in $1,000s: 0 10, 10 14, 14 20, 20 30, 30 50, 50 100, 100),

Genetically Modified Organisms Are Safe And Should Be Used
Day in and day out we are beginning to eat more and more foods with genetically modified organisms.
A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially
manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Although some see this as a bad thing, I
personally feel that GMOs are safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is something that
is used daily in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic modification is Bt
corn.
Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for humans. About eighty
million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1), Corn is an ingredient in a multitude of food
and manufactured products such as starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and rubbing alcohol
(Capehart 1). The first genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United States in 1996
(Thomson 20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn has increased
considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step is removing the desired
gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step due to the inadequate amount of
information known about certain genes needed to enhance the genetic makeup of plants (Romero 1).
Two main functions involved in this step are restriction enzymes and DNA ligase (Romero 1). The
DNA ligase puts the DNA fragments back together. The second step is cloning the desired gene. The
gene now undergoes a

Summary Of Destiny Of The Republic
Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Medicine, Madness, and Murder of a President by Candice Millard
is a non fiction book that explains the assassination of the 20th president of the United States, James
Garfield. President Garfield was the second president to be murdered while serving a term in office.
This book is exceptional because of the historical context it makes you feel as if Charles Guiteau is
standing right in front of you with a gun pointed at the president. Personally, I never knew much about
President Garfield, until I read Destiny of the Republic. The thing about this book is that Mr. Garfield
is a person who I have come to love. I admire his courage and honesty. President Garfield grew up
without much money but somehow managed to make it work; he did everything he could in order to
get a good education. President Garfield s honesty was prevalent in almost every part of the book.
There wasn t really any moment when Mr. Garfield wasn t honest. It was extraordinary how the author
was able to intertwine multiple different stories into one book. She included President Garfield s
assassination, Roscoe Conkling exploiting the spoils system in American government, Joseph Lister s
journey with attempting a sterile environment while operating, and Alexander Graham Bell making a
metal detector to try and find the bullet stuck inside the president.

Rollerblades Research Paper
One sunny day, I was speeding around my court with my rollerblades. I went inside to ask my parents
if I could go to my friend s house, and they both replied, Yes. Halfway to his house, I tripped, and fell
into the thin layer of grass. And this is when I recalled when I first started rollerblading.
My family and I were at a sports store in the mall, looking for baseball equipment for the upcoming
season. When I was walking the perimeter of the store, I saw the rollerblades. They were a bright lime
green in color, and were friendly looking, so I decided to ask my parents if we could purchase them.
They said Okay, we can, but they will be a birthday present.
I agreed with this statement doubting I could make them allow me to ride them when I got home. ...

After a few minutes, my grandparents were guiding me across the court. Everyday, I would go outside
and practice. I figured I should get to be good at it before summer came. Day by day, I was improving.
I dedicated many hours in a day to rollerblading. I got faster and faster after every dawn, and then the

Battle Of The Philippines Essay
The Philippines is a small island nation in Southeast Asia that normally has little consequence to the
rest of the world. During World War II however, it sat directly in Japan s oil shipping lanes. This made
it a strategic necessity for Japan to hold in order to maintain access to the natural resources that were
vital to the Japanese war effort. To compound the necessity of retaking the Philippines, General
Douglas MacArthur stated that the Allies had a moral obligation to liberate the islands as he had told
the people, I shall return, when he was forced to retreat to Australia in the winter of 1942. Other plans
to bypass the Philippines and attack Formosa (Taiwan) had been presented but due to the large amount
of Japanese air assets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Halsey s 3rd fleet, and Admiral Kinkaid s 7th fleet were called into action. This, along with Task Force
38, under the command of Vice Admiral Marc Mitscher would bring a total of over 300 naval vessels
to bear on the region. This immense swarm of ships would include eight fleet carriers, 8 light carriers,
18 escort carriers, 12 battleships, 24 cruisers, and 166 destroyers, escorts, and submarines. The carriers
would bring a full load of approximately 1,500 planes to the battles that would ensue. Opposing this
herculean force was the Japanese Northern Force under Vice Admiral Jisaburo Ozawa, Southern Force
under Vice Admirals Shoji Nishimura and Kiyohide Shima, and the most powerful Central Force
under the command of Takeo Kurito. Together these fleets comprised of one fleet carrier, three light
carriers, nine battleships, 14 heavy cruisers, 6 light cruisers, and over 35 destroyers. They would be
reinforced by nearly 300 land based aircraft from the nearby islands. With close to 400 naval vessels
and almost 2000 aircraft in total the Battle of Leyte Gulf would become the largest naval battle in
world history and the outcome could make or break the outcome of the war on either

These women possess the ability to make life work out for themselves and disregard all of the obstacles in their way. People say that it is about Feminism. Feminism is the belief that all women should be allowed the same opportunities, rights, and respect as men because they are both human. It is for this reason that I believe that without a doubt, that Like Water for Chocolate is a feminist novel. • 6. Zara Global Chain Essay Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer driven global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy, product design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results. Zara was the largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on account being a better established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara played the lead role in increasing the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international operations and it continued to be the principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected slight drop in the share of the group s total sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic capability, core competences and assets routines and values criteria, predominantly on resource based view. The resource based view can be described as the competitive advantage of an organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities (Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005). In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as internally heterogeneous and possess exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010). Where a workers performance not only depends on the level of pay they receive (Solow, 1979, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003), but also takes into consideration their pay compared to workers above and below them, those within the same occupational group, and the external labour market (Akerlof and Yellen, 1990). Pfeffer (2005) argues that wage compression, which is the act of reducing the size of the pay differences among employees, improves productivity. There is also a range of returns employees can receive; the psychological relational returns (learning opportunities, employment security), and total compensation returns which are transactional (benefits such as work/life balance, allowances, as well as cash compensation and bonuses) (Milkovich, Newman, Gerhart, 2011). However, the validity of Pfeffers argument is contestable. Although compressing the pay structure supports fairness and equality, there is also the problem of creating the opposite outcome. When wage differentials are eliminated, it may not be perceived as fair and create a negative effect on effort and motivation (Kraft, 1994). A Swedish study demonstrates this negative effect, whereby the higher paid workers morale and effort subsided leading to lower outputs as they did not feel valued for their skills (Hibbs and Locking, 2000, in Alexopoulos Cohen, 2003). Therefore, wage differentials aid in distinguishing between workers abilities and responsibilities to organisational performance (Beaumont Harris, 2003). Theorists have thus developed a counter argument, that it is in fact wage dispersion that leads to increased effort and performance (Lallemand, Plasman, Rycx, 2004). Instead of emphasising co operation, Lazear and Rosen s (1981) tournament theory highlights the need to differentiate pay, as larger variations are more motivating than smaller or equal differences. ... The Great Prince Of Denmark, Hamlet, By William Shakespeare The Elizabethan era consisted of a time where women were viewed as minorities in society and were often thought to have been devised in the weaker image of men. Being given limited political, economical and social freedom led to their diminutive role in literature. In contrast to this degrading trend, Shakespeare introduced femininity in a new light. He created female characters who contradict the stereotypes of his time, impacting both the plot and surrounding characters of his plays. One of his most famous tragedies, Hamlet, revolves around the great prince of Denmark, Hamlet, who encounters the apparition of his deceased father, the former king. The ghost asks that Hamlet seeks revenge upon Claudius, his uncle and new father, for it was he who murdered him and seduced the queen, as a plan to gain top status in society. Faking madness, Hamlet strives to kill Claudius, and although successful, many other lives, including his own, pass in the meanwhile . Provide a rationale for each. 8 pts. The benefits of early intervention (EI) and early childhood education (ECE) are very clear. They help improve children s skills, knowledge, and way of navigating the world while having some form of a disability. EI is usually provided in the child s home, giving their family the opportunity to learn more about their child and how to assist in creating a better life for him/her. It also gets the entire family involved in the care of the child, which is important for parents who feel that they may not be able to make a difference in their child s life or for parents who believe it is their fault that their child has a disability. Through education and services provided, the family will be able to function as efficiently as would a family who doesn t have a member with a disability. Early childhood education is especially helpful for each individual child with a disability. It puts them in a place of inclusion while improving their language and social skills and gives them a place outside of the home to achieve goals that are more individualized and about them rather than their family. Human Dignity in Relation to Universal Healthcare Human Dignity is complex there is no solid definition but similar words such as value and worth arise (ACU, 2014, 2.1.2) Many have different definition of what human dignity is these are two main categories of what human dignity means to people: Category 1 Some understandings of human dignity are based in the belief that it is something all humans already have, these are called Attributed Dignity (Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Because we are human, OR Humans have special attributes making us better then all living things Category 2 Other understandings of human dignity are based in the belief that human dignity is something that people can acquire (or lose) this is known as Intrinsic Dignity (Weisstub and Díaz Pintos, 2008, p 27) Through their own sense of self worth OR Through societies view and expectation of that person These categories are divide up into four sectors: 1A: Humans have inherent worth simply because they are human. Many religious people hold this belief as we are all created in God s image. Others claim we have priority over any other living thing on this earth. 1B: Humans have inherent worth because they are distinctive and special. Through human abilities (independent though that is rational and logical) makes us distinctive to any other species. 2A: People have dignity when I believe in my own worth. This takes into account the individuals feelings, sense of pride and encouraging individuals to live a righteous life. 2B: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Influence of Ww1 on the Artwork of Early 20th Century On August 1st 1914, Germany declared war on Russia, and on the 3rd, declared war on France. Starting at the top of the previous page the first piece of artwork I chose to review is Max Beckmann s piece Der Kriegsausbruch (Declaration of War), created in 1914 as the declarations of war had just been announced. This is a drawing depicting the reaction of passers by in Berlin to the news of war being declared. I chose this piece specifically because of the sketchy style of drawing. I find that the looseness of his lines give the piece a feeling of anxiousness or even stress that I imagine many of the citizens depicted in the piece were feeling at the time. The second piece I chose was created by artist, Alfred Kubin, entitled Die ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. Advantages Of Juvenile Delinquency There are several ways that juvenile delinquency is measured in which each way consists of advantages and disadvantages within the scope of measuring crimes and delinquency. The several types of juvenile delinquency measuring crimes statistics are from collected from the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR), National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), Victimization Surveys, and Self Report Studies. The Uniform Crime Reporting Program consist of voluntarily combination reports from city, county and state law enforcement agencies which are reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI compiles the detailed data collections of the Uniform Crime Report (URC) data from the law enforcement agencies based on three detailed part of crime groups. The crime data are group in three categorized topics starting with the crimes that are known to the police, the number of arrests made, and the person arrested. Crimes known to the police consist of the data which the crimes are known to the police whether it was from public citizen reporting or were discovered by the law enforcement agency themselves. The collected data containing the number of arrests consist of individuals committing the crime accounting for individual that may be arrested more than once within the time frame between crimes. Then lastly, the persons arrested consisted of the actual number of person being arrested and detailed personal information are collected such as the reasons for arrest, age, ... • 29. Using Multiple Regression Project For New Stores Multiple Regression Project Jay Ma MGSC6200, 50839 Facilitator: Ike Papadopoulos 05JUL2015 Introduction Pam and Susan s is a discount department store that currently has 250 chain stores located throughout the South. To sustain its recent continuous expansion into the Border States and Southwest, identification of the sites for new stores has become an essential factor of its increasing strategic planning. The current store decisions are based on the traditional process of estimating sales potential with demographic analyses, site visits and studies by the company s real estate department. A subjective approach was developed to classify the potential sites to the competitive type of the trading zone. However, there are ongoing concerns regarding the subjectivity of the competitive type classifications, and whether this method can predict sales potentials at new sites. The goal of this project is to build a multiple regression model based on the census data obtained from stores trading zones and individual stores, to effectively predict sales potentials at new sites. Data The gathered data contains demographics and economics of the trading zones, and size, composition and sales of the store. There is a total of 13 major categories of variables including population (%black, % Spanish speaking), total population , family income (in $1,000s: 0 10, 10 14, 14 20, 20 30, 30 50, 50 100, 100), average family size, median yearly income, median rent per month, median home ... • 30. Genetically Modified Organisms Are Safe And Should Be Used Day in and day out we are beginning to eat more and more foods with genetically modified organisms. A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Although some see this as a bad thing, I personally feel that GMOs are safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is something that is used daily in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic modification is Bt corn. Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for humans. About eighty million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1), Corn is an ingredient in a multitude of food and manufactured products such as starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and rubbing alcohol (Capehart 1). The first genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United States in 1996 (Thomson 20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn has increased considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step is removing the desired gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step due to the inadequate amount of information known about certain genes needed to enhance the genetic makeup of plants (Romero 1). Two main functions involved in this step are restriction enzymes and DNA ligase (Romero 1). The DNA ligase puts the DNA fragments back together. The second step is cloning the desired gene. The gene now undergoes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Summary Of Destiny Of The Republic Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Medicine, Madness, and Murder of a President by Candice Millard is a non fiction book that explains the assassination of the 20th president of the United States, James Garfield. President Garfield was the second president to be murdered while serving a term in office. This book is exceptional because of the historical context it makes you feel as if Charles Guiteau is standing right in front of you with a gun pointed at the president. Personally, I never knew much about President Garfield, until I read Destiny of the Republic. The thing about this book is that Mr. Garfield is a person who I have come to love. I admire his courage and honesty. President Garfield grew up without much money but somehow managed to make it work; he did everything he could in order to get a good education. President Garfield s honesty was prevalent in almost every part of the book. There wasn t really any moment when Mr. Garfield wasn t honest. It was extraordinary how the author was able to intertwine multiple different stories into one book. She included President Garfield s assassination, Roscoe Conkling exploiting the spoils system in American government, Joseph Lister s journey with attempting a sterile environment while operating, and Alexander Graham Bell making a metal detector to try and find the bullet stuck inside the president. ... • 32. Rollerblades Research Paper One sunny day, I was speeding around my court with my rollerblades. I went inside to ask my parents if I could go to my friend s house, and they both replied, Yes. Halfway to his house, I tripped, and fell into the thin layer of grass. And this is when I recalled when I first started rollerblading. My family and I were at a sports store in the mall, looking for baseball equipment for the upcoming season. When I was walking the perimeter of the store, I saw the rollerblades. They were a bright lime green in color, and were friendly looking, so I decided to ask my parents if we could purchase them. They said Okay, we can, but they will be a birthday present. I agreed with this statement doubting I could make them allow me to ride them when I got home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a few minutes, my grandparents were guiding me across the court. Everyday, I would go outside and practice. I figured I should get to be good at it before summer came. • 33. Battle Of The Philippines Essay The Philippines is a small island nation in Southeast Asia that normally has little consequence to the rest of the world. During World War II however, it sat directly in Japan s oil shipping lanes. This made it a strategic necessity for Japan to hold in order to maintain access to the natural resources that were vital to the Japanese war effort. To compound the necessity of retaking the Philippines, General Douglas MacArthur stated that the Allies had a moral obligation to liberate the islands as he had told the people, I shall return, when he was forced to retreat to Australia in the winter of 1942. Other plans to bypass the Philippines and attack Formosa (Taiwan) had been presented but due to the large amount of Japanese air assets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Halsey s 3rd fleet, and Admiral Kinkaid s 7th fleet were called into action. This immense swarm of ships would include eight fleet carriers, 8 light carriers, 18 escort carriers, 12 battleships, 24 cruisers, and 166 destroyers, escorts, and submarines. The carriers would bring a full load of approximately 1,500 planes to the battles that would ensue. Opposing this herculean force was the Japanese Northern Force under Vice Admiral Jisaburo Ozawa, Southern Force under Vice Admirals Shoji Nishimura and Kiyohide Shima, and the most powerful Central Force under the command of Takeo Kurito. Together these fleets comprised of one fleet carrier, three light carriers, nine battleships, 14 heavy cruisers, 6 light cruisers, and over 35 destroyers. They would be reinforced by nearly 300 land based aircraft from the nearby islands. With close to 400 naval vessels and almost 2000 aircraft in total the Battle of Leyte Gulf would become the largest naval battle in world history and the outcome could make or break the outcome of the war on either ...
