Liberalism and Mercantilism
Liberalism and Mercantilism
International political economy is an important subdiscipline of international relation. It has three
main ideologies, Liberalism, Mercantilism and Marxism. In this essay there will be three parts, first
part is to demonstrate what the Liberalism and Mercantilism are on the perspective of international
political economy and then the second part is to compare and contrast these two ideologies of political
economy. At last, give a conclusion to the Liberalism and Mercantilism.
Liberalism
The liberal perspective on political economy is embodied in the discipline of the Western economics
(Gilpin, 1987). It emphasizes the individual interests, the freedom and the maximization of economic

Sustainable Income From Offshore Sustainable Agriculture
SUSTAINABLE INCOME FROM
OFFSHORE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Here at International Coffee Farms we believe that owning sustainable offshore agriculture for a long
term sustainable income is the...
Opportunity of the Decade
For almost 3 years now we have been putting our money where our mouth is...since the summer of
2012 until April 2014 as consultants to a developing coffee farming enterprise in Colombia, and since
June of 2014 as Principals in our own specialty coffee farms here in Boquete, Panama.
The notion that investing in agricultural land is a very good way to diversify a risky, highly correlated
and often manipulated portfolio of paper assets in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETF s, etc.

We also understand that the sustainability we talk about constantly is not only economic. Sure money
counts. But so does the environment and, very importantly, the people who are largely responsible for
growing and producing the specialty coffee we all desperately need every morning of our lives. These
are the people who produce our profits! Providing social sustainability is a critical pillar in any
business model that is going to last for generations to provide a legacy income for you and your heirs.
At International Coffee Farms we have set aside a full 20% of our coffee farm profits to ensure the
local indigenous Panamanian Indian farmers working for us are cared for properly.
That s true social sustainability!
Increased salaries, improved living and working conditions, new sanitary and laundry facilities and
helping with the kid s educational needs are but a few of the benefits we provide. This bonus pool
exists so that all workers can share in the value created by turning around poorly run existing
commercial coffee farms into professionally run specialty coffee farms. We invest in our people and
we believe they will return the favor by caring for our coffee.
Happy farmers = Happy coffee!
Our unique approach to Social Sustainability is a joint responsibility equally shared

Meet The Robins Comparison
A comparison of the Novel, Tomorrowland and the Film, Meet the Robinsons
Although a film and a novel are completely different works of entertainment they can also be very
similar in a variety of ways. They may share the same theme, use of imagery, characters, objective, or
even emotions. The novel Tomorrowland and the film Meet the Robinsons clearly show some
similarities. Tomorrowland and Meet the Robinsons share a type of narrative hero, one who takes on a
personal mission that results in a complete renewal of society, proving the value of a single life to the
greater whole.
Both of the heroes have goals to accomplish, yet face personal struggles. In Tomorrowland, Casey

another dimension called Tomorrowland after she was given a strange pin with a T on it. She realized
that every time she touched the futuristic pin her mind was taken to the beautiful futuristic land.
Unfortunately, Casey could never physically be there. It was only a realistic image in her head, and so
she thought! She tried to figure out why this would happen and was curious about where the pin had
come from. Casey searched for information on the web and after searching, she discovered that a
collector store was interested in the futuristic pin. Casey visited the collectors store and the employees
forced her to stay then attempted to kill her when suddenly a young girl named Athena saves Casey.
Athena tells her that Tomorrowland is real and promises to take her there and also tells her that the
future lies in her hands. In Meet the Robinsons, Lewis gets the idea that if his mother did not want him
as an infant than she would surely want him now as he has matured. Lewis gets the idea from one of
the characters in the film, Mildred, and she states, She may not have been able to take care of you. Did
you ever think of that? I am sure that she was only thinking about what was best for you. Lewis then
stated, I never thought of it that way You re right. My real mom is the only person who s ever wanted
me and if she wanted me then, she ll want me now I have to find her, Mildred, and when I do, she ll
take me back, and we ll be a family again! (Meet Web). Lewis believes that if he can see his mother
now she would accept him. He begins building a famous memory scanner. The scanner will take him
back in his memory to witness who his mother was. Lewis did not know that his invention held the

Stereotypes In Hailee Steinfeld s Most Girls
Can I be a girl without wearing the stereotypical girly clothes? Hailee Steinfeld s song Most Girls
talks about the two types of girls that exist. The first one is the girly girl that wear cute items:
skirts, dresses, heels, tight clothing, and piercings on the body. She is very pretty since she wears make
up, while the second on is a tomboy that dresses casual clothes, doesn t care what they wear, and is
most likely bisexual or lesbian. She defines these types by their wardrobe, actions, and how they want
to succeed in life through their own unique way. Society tells them that is how a girl should portray
herself. No matter how you act or dress, at the end of the day you are a girl and no one can tell you
otherwise. The artist is a female and her style can be girly and tomboyish because that s who she is.
When I first heard this song I felt like I was finally understood that I am a girl without those
stereotypes. This song helped me realize I should be comfortable with myself and knowing not all
girls, like myself, feel that they have to live up to the stereotypical expectation of being a girly girl and
shouldn t define by any stereotypes, free to live by her own expectation, not society. First time I heard
this song on the radio I was filled with so much enjoyment thinking it was my birthday and the
attention was all on me. I thought back to when I was a kid, I hated wearing skirts, dresses, Skorts
(shorts attach under a skirt) and wearing cute petite shoes. I was forced to wear these items, but mostly
I wore T shirts, jeans, sweats, and Chuck Taylor Converse in white, black, gray, black and white all the
time. I felt wearing sweatpants, looking like a princess was the person I felt comfortable as. My
grandma hated taking me shopping because I never wanted to go to the extremely girly section. I felt
like I was in a world of bubble gum with so much pink, unicorns, and all that girly stuff. I do not hate
pink, but I m not too fond of it. She tried to shape me into this cute little girl who loves dolls, pink,
and everything girly like my sister. I am not a little doll that she commands to wear and do whatever
she wants. I didn t know how to be the proper girl my grandma wanted me to be because I was

Energy Content Of A Food Sample
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment is to measure the energy content of a food sample and to determine the
efficiency of a calorimeter.
Materials:
1. 100 ml distilled water
2. A test tube
3. 1 almond
4. Calorimeter
5. A paperclip
6. A small aluminum foil dish
7. A scale
8. A graduated cylinder
9. A flask
10. Tongs
11. Safety glasses.
12. Lighter
Method: The first step was to push a single almond onto the end of a partially straightened paperclip.
And then we set the scale to zero, place a weighing dish and the almond/paper clip on the scale to
record the total mass (weight). Secondly, we measure out 100 ml of distilled water from the water
bottle and pour it into the flask. Place the flask stopper with thermometer inserted into the neck of the
flask. The place the neck of the flask through the hole in the calorimeter lid and rotate a quarter turn.
Then we measure and record the initial temperature of the water. (We record it after leave the
thermometer in the water for a while before reading the temperature.) Next, we position the weighing
dish in front of the calorimeter and put on safety glasses to light the almond. After a while, when the
almond catches fire, carefully position the paperclip with the burning almond on the weighing dish.
The set up should be such that any ash or broken pieces of almond will fall onto the weighing dish.
Then carefully slide the weighing dish with the burning almond into the calorimeter so that the

Witch Hunts of the Early Modern Period as the Result of Religious and Social Upheaval
The Early Modern Period was a time of great change in and around Europe. The people of the age
were faced with upheaval of all forms; religious, social, political and even economical.
Religious upheaval stemmed from changes in religious views and practises. The Reformation was a
hugely significant event that took place in the years spanning 1520 1650. It was a religious, and
political, movement in Europe that began as an attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church, but
ended in the establishment of Protestantism and Protestant churches. The aim of the reformers was to
restore the Church to its early Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without doubt, everyone s religious ideas were being influenced and changed by what was going on
around them. Concerning these changes, the Reformation caused a distinct change in the beliefs of the
devil amongst the Protestant formers. Roman Catholics believed in the devil but had always believed
they could defeat him, and had certain ways of protecting themselves from Satan s wickedness. In the
Catholic faith, it was common to deploy supernatural weapons against the devil, such as candles and
holy water. The weapons were thought to offer protection against evil spirits, and as Darren Oldridge
comments in his book; The Devil and the Reformation , even the ringing of church bells was accepted
as protection against flying demons. Catholics believed that their traditional rituals such as these
protected them from the evils of the devil and therefore they weren t as scared of him as they could
have been, these magical rituals that helped them face him. Consequently, with the Reformation, the
reformers decision to reject the practises of the Roman Catholic faith resulted in them losing these
magical rituals that had protected people from, and defeated , the devil for so many years. Protestants
believed that a person could not do anything to earn the love of God and therefore lived in devote
prayer, and worked extremely hard to try

The Manipulative Nature of Propaganda Essay
Though it may come as a surprise, many of your opinions on matters originated by means of
propaganda. Propaganda is a means to manipulate an audience in believing information they want
their audience to believe. In an effort to bring about the awareness of propaganda, writers George
Orwell, Newman and Genevieve Birk, as well as D.W. Cross, explain the various ways in which a
targeted audience may succumb to the manipulation of language and logic. Orwell Newman and
Genevieve Birk focus on the slanted information that we receive in our everyday lives. In fact, much
of the information we read and hear slants towards audiences having a specific response (Birk and
Birk). What take from that information is screened, slanted by selected facts, ... Show more content on

Cross in Propaganda: How Not to Be Bamboozled. This article announces the devices of trickery used
by propaganda in an attempt to appeal to audiences. Devices of trickery include name calling,
glittering generalities, plain folks appeal, argumentum ad populum, argumentum ad hominem, transfer
of guilt or glory, bandwagon, and false analogy, begging the question, false dilemma, and card
stacking. Name calling is mudslinging that we accept without further question. We need to become
aware of the negative name calling, and should question the verity of the statement instead of
assuming the information to be true. Glittering generalities are the opposite of name calling, in which
a positive connotation is used to make us agree without questioning the evidence. Typically, glittering
generalities have virtue words, that we have a deep connection to, but the words have no meaning
(Cross). We must ask ourselves what the words really mean and instead of assuming because it sounds
good that it must be true. Speakers typically use the plain folks appeal in order to make you feel they
are just like you. If you think that they are just like you, you would be more likely associate yourself
with them. You must ask yourself why you chose that person, and what do they stand for as

New York City Vs. Los Angeles
New York City vs. Los Angeles: East Coast to West Coast
For Christmas and my sixteenth birthday present my parents planned a trip for me to go to New York
City with my dad. Two days after Christmas me and my dad hopped on the plane and headed for New
Jersey and New York City. I was very excited because I had been to New Jersey but I never visited
New York City before. I also remember being excited because of that fact that I would actually get to
see snow in the winter since it rarely ever snowed in Houston during the winter. Then that next year
during my junior year in High School, I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Los Angeles with my
drill team. I was very excited to get to go to both of these huge awesome cities in that two year period.
Both of these cities were unique in their own way. So what makes a city similar to another city and
what makes a city different to another city? The people, the weather, the vibe, the monuments and
popular attractions are all some of the components of what makes a city unlike any other city. My two
favorite cities besides Houston are New York and Los Angeles. I have visited both and like them both
equally for different reasons. While New York and Los Angeles definitely have their similarities, they
also have many differences that set them apart from each other.
In New York they experience all four seasons. The leaves change colors in the fall, it snows in the
winter, the grass gets greener because it rains a lot in the spring, and

Deliberate Self-Harm Paper
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting
behavior. Past occurrences may cause someone to act in a certain way, especially within social
situations. Deliberate Self Harm (DSH) is a behavior in which a person commits an act with the
purpose of physically harming themselves with or without real suicidal intent. Self harm is most often
related to going through trauma in childhood rather than as an adult. There are many reasons why
people are known to self harm; a lot of the time it is to help feel the pain they are feeling on the inside
in another way. One of the reasons a person may self harm is due to a high rate of childhood sexual or
physical abuse within their past. Despite people s beliefs, people who suffer from a self harm disorder
are not doing it for attention. If someone sees cuts or scars on someone s wrists or legs, their
immediate reaction is that it is from attention. In reality people who self harm are not doing it for
attention and a lot of the time these people take every precaution to hide the cuts to not be questioned
about it. There has been research conducted on many aspects that tie into this behavior; research that
involves both men and women, the outcomes of childhood abuse, and more. Together, these articles of

Dangers Of Early Human Migration
Question 1: How and why did early humans migrate out of Africa and across the earth s varied
landscapes?
The Early human migration was an event that eventually led to all of the known world s current
human population and their various locations. Homo erectus (before Homo sapiens) began their
journey by migrating through both the Levantine corridor and the Horn of Africa all the way to
Eurasia during the Early Pleistocene. However, if we are to look at Homo sapiens and Neanderthals, it
is believed that they retreated back to Africa and did not proceed to go east across Asia until
approximately 75,000 years ago. They achieved this by wandering across the Bab el Mandib
connecting Ethiopia and Yemen. But, what caused them to make the journey across such vast lands?
Why bother making it at all? The answers to these questions can even be seen in the world of today.
War, Climate change, lack of food, and diseases are all reasons as to why the migration proceeded. As
soon as the risk of remaining in their current location exceeded the dangers of venturing to new lands
it was determined that moving on was the best option. This migration was begun through the hopes of

Analysis Of Barbara Gowdy s Frankenstein And The...
Emotional thinking is the systematic response in the brain that may influence false alarms when it
comes to specific scenarios. These alarms trigger one s emotional state into feelings such as
excitement, misery, and stress. Emotional people are stereotypically known to overanalyze situations
and create conflict with the reality of the situation. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, one can witness
that the two central characters have difficulty when it comes to their thought processes of one another.

An example of this is when the Creature is first introduced to Victor s younger brother, William, in the
fields where the Creature was attempting to seek refuge. The Creature attempts to stop the boy with
hopes of befriending him, when instead, the boy screams at the Creature, telling him he was the son of
a Frankenstein. This triggers the Creature, recognizing the name an becoming enraged. He proceeds to
kill the boy, with hopes this death will carry despair to [Frankenstein], and a thousand other miseries
shall torment and destroy him, (Shelley 155). These emotions internalized in the Creature cause him to
commit heinous acts in order to ruin the life of his nemesis. The negativity of the Creature
demonstrates an even further rise in his emotions, giving way to a tension between the characters that
is furthered as the text proceeds. Likewise, Victor Frankenstein allows his emotional senses to give
way to a hatred of the Creature without even giving the Creature a chance. After seeing the hideous
creation made by his own hands, Victor refrains from taking responsibility of the actions of the
Creature, even when his conscious tells him it is his duty to. On the night of the creation, Victor recalls
that the creature, who he emotionally describes as a monster, held up the curtain of the bed ... one

The Importance Of Motherhood
Being a mother is a lifelong commitment that will bring many smiles and tears; making this sacrifice
requires a person to always be on call, pull overtime daily, lose sleep at times, anddo daily chores that
come along with this lifestyle, making motherhood a full time job. Somemothers may have to work
for financial reasons or some may choose to work simply because it is what they love to do. Society
screams that it is no one s place to tell anyone who to be, where to work, or how to raise their kids, but
this is the mask they wear as they cultivate their own opinions. They teach the selfish way of thinking
as well as going against the natural when intruth there is nothing more natural than motherhood. In
fact, the words mother and selfish do not belong in the same sentence together. The decision of being
just a full time mom or to hold down a job, is up to an individual based from their opinions, and their
opinions alone; however, most women do not consider the fact that the choice they are making affects
more than themselves now that the life choices of another is in their hands. Society s view on women
has drastically changed in the last century. For example, acentury ago it was expected of mothers to
stay at home and care for their children; onlyunmarried women (also meaning women without
children) could be teachers. Whereas today many women and mothers alike are teachers, doctors,
lawyers, or hold one of many other positions that they once could not obtain. Feminist

Floating Wetlands
Floating treatment wetlands are a manmade ecosystem that mimic natural wetlands (David J. Sample,

serve many task such as creating habitat for a variety of organisms, such as birds, can add to the

The World A More Eco Friendly Environment
The society we live in today, has made efforts to make the world a more eco friendly environment. For
the most part, different industries have made a push to better the ecosystem. The oil industry
developed a clean fuel refinery, a design to eliminate or minimize solid waste. The automotive
industry has promoted cars that are fueled by power instead of gas, to decrease pollution, and the
manufacturing industry has gone green by developing new equipment that uses less energy. It is
almost as if going green has become trendy . Our society made it clear to corporate America that
living in a more environmentally sound world was important to them. In 2014 it was noted that an
estimated 17 to 20% of water contamination came from areas of the fashion industry, and that the
fashion industry, is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. Who would have thought that the
clothes we wear had such a colossal impact on the environment that surrounds us? However, just like
the oil, automotive and manufacturing industry, the apparel industry is continuing to make progress in
creating greener fashion. Social responsibility is the concept that drives industry s steps towards a
healthier environment. It is the ethical frame work that proposes that an organization needs to be
accountable for any action that affects society at large. It is the responsibility that individuals have to
preserve the balance between an ecosystem and the economy. On the contrary, the fashion industry has

except a football game. (chapter 3) The work almost deprived all of the energy of labours. The novel
also reflects the brutal competition which is full of deceit and dishonesty. Many people choose to
benumb themselves to be an alcoholic in order to avoid competition. For women who are lack of
advantages for competition, prostitution and degeneration become the only way to survive. The poor
are competing with each other for the sake of food and clothing, while politicians are bribing money
from the poor for defeating their rivals, and the police, the judges keep wages of the workers for their
own expense. The American society in the eyes of Sinclair hardly has charity, even if there have
charity, goodwill always comes from the lower class and the poorest. In fact, The Jungle is a visual
definition of the inconstant society, that the industrialization of America is a brutal and bloody jungle
world.

River Valley Civilization
The Yellow River Valley Civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is also the main
source of Chinese civilization. The Yellow River is not just a river, the name stands for the origins of
their culture and civilization. It has been referred to as the Mother River to the Chinese and the Cradle
of Chinese Civilization. The River was the birth place of ancient civilizations in the Xia and Shang
eras from 2100 1600 BC and 1600 1046 BC. The religions of the Chinese, were the most prosperous
in early Chinese history. The people regarded yellow as a color of ancient origins, an emblem of the
loess land the Yellow River flows through, the yellow skin of the Chinese, the legendary Chinese
Dragon from whom they are descendants from, and the emperor. The Yellow River Valley Civilization
had two main, more well known religions or belief systems; Confucianism and Daoism. Buddhism
was merged with native Daoism and folk religion. It is taught that Buddha, was not a god, but merely
an ordinary man who lived 2,500 years ago. He is known to have seen clearly into the true nature of
reality. His teachings are not set in stone rules someone must follow or the only wisdom in the world.
They believe the teachings should be advice that should be considered by us from one who has gone
beyond everyday views, ideas, and conceptions. Buddhism believes many things, one being that one s
afterlife depends on how they live this life. How they live here, will help them

How Does Shakespeare Use Gender Reversal In King Lear
Throughout history, society has always looked at itself with certain stereotypes in mind, which
encompass the behavior of classes, roles assumed by genders, or expectations of children. The motif
of role reversal exhibits prevalence in Shakespeare s King Lear. Shakespeare explores this motif to
discuss transformations in class, gender, and parent child relationships. The transformation in the
character of Lear can be traced from his position a king through his downward spiral into madness.
Using this degradation of position in society, Shakespeare establishes the context for both the main
plot and subplot. Initially, Lear overexerts his power as the King. Shakespeare demonstrates Lear s
abuse of power through the banishment of Kent and disinheritance ... Show more content on

The play begins with the reversal of stereotypical gender roles. Shakespeare portrays this reversal
initially through how Lear relinquishes his power and apportions it between his two daughters. In the
time period, it was uncommon for a king to step down prior to his death, even more so to his
daughters. Shakespeare uses this gender reversal for plot construction by initiating the class reversal,
and character development by unveiling Goneril s and Regan s true personalities. Shakespeare also
reverses the gender roles within a marriage. In Albany s marriage with Goneril, Albany does nothing
to prevent Goneril s actions. For the time period, a husband ignoring the actions of his wife was very
uncommon as women possessed less freedom than how Shakespeare portrays it. However,
Shakespeare reverses these initially reverse gender roles through Albany s abnegation of her actions.
Albany s line in 5.3 clearly demonstrates his rejection. Most monstrous! O! King Lear (5.3.191) This
rejection sets Albany apart from Cornwall, who does nothing to prevent his wife from committing evil
deeds. Shakespeare demonstrates this difference through the difference in their deaths; Albany doesn t

The History Of Product Design
The history of product design is a fickle subject. Through the years, the wheel has been invented and
re invented many a time. That is because design is fluid. But at the same time, design is constant.
Often the past inspires the present. Even more, the ideas of what the future can hold can end up
creating the future of design. These design ideas can be seen trickling into both the works of Vico
Magistretti and James Dyson. Often it is said that no one creates anything new anymore. It is true that
you can t reinvent the wheel, but it can certainly be seen that designs from the past often inspire the
future of design. Designs by Vico Magistretti in the 20th century have similar aesthetics to the designs
of James Dyson, a 21st century inventor, and designer. Designs of James Dyson show that the present
is rooted in the past. Designs and products of Vico Magistretti show that simple designs are timeless.
Designs and products of James Dyson show that basic design philosophies are often repeated through
time.
Vico Magistretti is best known not just as an industrial designer, but as an architect as well. It actually
seems like a natural combination. Even Frank Lloyd Wright is known to have designed the entire
living experience surrounding his architectural planning. While Magistretti did not so far as to even
design the clothes the homeowners were to wear, it only makes sense that Magistretti would envision
his designs housed within yet another one of his designs.

Evolution Vs. Creationism Debate
In this paper I will be explaining two sides of the evolution vs. creationism debate. The topics I am
going to write about are fossil evidence, the origin of life, and Darwin s theory of natural selection. I
will be presenting a view of both sides of the argument they will be on the creation side and evolution
standpoint. I would suggest that you, the reader, would have a previous knowledge of all the topics so
that you may get a full understanding of both sides. If there is no prior knowledge of one side or
another know that not all people that have beliefs in any of these topics agree with all of these
standings.
There will be three topics discussed that will provide a view of two sides of the argument on the way
that life happened upon earth. For the views of fossil evidence I will present the ideas of relative
dating, this is the assumption that the lower layers of strata are older than the ones atop. For the
creationist, view that a Great Flood happened. The next topic is the origin of life. For the two views I
will present the Miller Urey experiment why it proves evolution and why it doesn t. For my final topic
I will present Darwin s ideas of natural selection why it proves evolution and why it does not.
Fossil evidence is a leading example of why evolution is true. If you open any biology text book you
will find a section on fossils and relative dating. Relative dating is the science of taking fossils from
one sedimentary layer and comparing it to the ones

With this limited sort of resection the residual mid septal bulge still redirects flow posteriorly: SAM
persists because flow still gets behind the mitral valve. It is only when the deeper portion of the septal

With this in mind, a modification of the Morrow myectomy termed extended myectomy, mobilization

Chronic Insomnia
brain tumors or strokes (Epstein, p.249).
Chronic insomnia was revealed to be in direct relation to a neurochemical imbalance in 2008 that
makes it difficult for the brain to get ready for sleep. Someone who is affected for more than six
months has 30 percent less gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is chemically induced
throughout the brain to slow activity down (McKeever,2008). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter
that helps regions of the brain shut down by reducing electrical activity (Mehta,2008). This attributes
to overactivity being present at not only the level of excessive thoughts and emotions but at the
nervous system as well (McKeever,2008). Hyperarousal is also a neurobiological state of chronic
insomnia and lower GABA levels are found in people with a major depression disorder and anxiety
disorders that both factor into disturbed sleep (health.com). To support this theory, researchers

Charles Cholly Atkins was truly a class act. He definitely a leader in the entertainment industry, and he
knew it. Not only was he amazing at various types of dance, he was a gifted singer, and a superb
choreographer. His career started in the 1930s and the legacy of it extends even to today. His dancing
style was like no others; he combined standard tap dance with modern dance and ballet moves to
create amazing and eye catching tap techniques. Atkins performed in venues such as Broadway and
the Apollo theatre. He also choreographed performances for the likes of the Temptations, the Pips. the
Cadillacs and many others. His vocal choreography changed the way tap dance and dace ita=self was
perceived by performers. Even when tap almost died, Cholly never abandoned tap; when he started
choreographing for musical groups some of the moves he taught the group came from tap dance such
as the ball change and he taught the groups he worked with how to dance smoothly as if they were
doing the soft shoe. Charles Cholly Atkins was indeed an amazing performer and choreographer. He
was able to stay relevant in the entertainment industry, and because of this was a household name for
so long. He was able to morph his image to change the times, and that was the key to his success.

Coso Range Shamanism
The Coso Mountain Range is located at the intersection of the Great Basin and California culture area
just above the eastern California desert. This region was left with arroyo walls, lava flows and
pyroclastic boulders covered with petroglyphs of zoomorphic and anthropomorphic images (127).
Petroglyphs are images created by carving, pecking or incising images into rock surfaces. The most
common rock art element found in the Coso Range is that of bighorn sheep (129). Although bighorn
sheep images were common in other parts of the Great Basin and the Southwest, these elements were
seen in far greater quantities in the Coso Range. The bighorn sheep image represents more than half of
the 100,000 rock art elements discovered in this region. Many ... Show more content on

This model suggest that bighorn sheep represent mythical spirit helpers that were in the center of
shamanistic activities, including hallucinations and trances. Since bighorn sheep held a minimal role
in the diet during the late Haiwee and early Marana Period, rituals performed resulted in images of
bighorn sheep being carved to attract rain to the Coso Range as a means to increase productivity of
plants. It was said that Numic men would enter a dream states or drug induced trances during rain
rituals. The mental imprints obtained during these experiences were transcribed as rock art images.
These images were thought to portray transformation of men into spirit helpers or bighorn sheep.
These half anthropomorphic, half zoomorphic figures recorded were featured as evidence, however,
problems arose with this model. For instance, this model required the rock art to have been created
post 1000BP, since the model proposes that Numic groups from the Great Basin were the ones that
brought these rituals. However, the Numic Expansion did not occur until 1000BP and bighorn sheep
petroglyphs seem to have developed in the Coso Range prior to the Numic Expansion. Also, the
hallucinogens that produce the particular sequence that some have argued these images capture were
not available in prehistoric North America. In addition, the ethnographic footing of this model is
challenged since no ethnographic connection has been proposed between the native people and the
pecked images of bighorn sheep for rain making. Some ethnographic accounts connect shamanism
with the Coso region, weather control as a shamanic activity, rain shamans with bighorn spirit helpers
and rock art with shamans, but no particular ethnographic evidence has been made to connect all
concepts. This

Nixon was basically stating that he was a proven enemy of communists and that the democrats
assisted them. Finally, Nixon supports Eisenhower by showing that he is qualified to clean up
corruption and deal with communists. If one looks closely at Nixon s speech it has a very easy, logical
pattern to follow, and allowed him to achieve every goal that he set for himself. One of his main
intentions of his speech was to attack the democrats, but at the same time make republicans, including
himself, look good. After Nixon built up his own credibility, he began to bash the democrats. He
implied that Stevenson and Sparkman had something to hide, unless they do as I did and make their
finances pubic. Nixon encourages his audience to believe a lot of things that may or may not have
been true. One, that he has done nothing morally wrong with using the $18,000 fund because he made
his finances public. Two, he is an honest man, and he deserves to be retained as Vice Presidential
candidate. Three, rich men such as Governor Stevenson who inherited a fortune from his father should
not deserve to be president. But, a modest man such as himself or Eisenhower, a common man that
God must have loved, should have that chance at office. In general Nixon said that Eisenhower and he,

The Vietnam War On The Movie, Platoon, As A Portal
Platoon
The Vietnam War was one the most controversial wars in America. This paper is meant to examine the
Vietnam War using the movie, Platoon, as a portal. Analyzing scenes in the movie and how they
pertain to the films ideology. The paper will look at the struggles presented in war from the outlook of
the grunt. It will look at the pro war and anti war view of propaganda. It will look at the good and evil,
right and wrong, conflicts in the film. How do these messages reflect the reality of the war? Is the
agenda to create a vision of reality or is the film simply a form of entertainment?
The film, Platoon, is the perspective of the Vietnam War in 1967 through the eyes of Chris Taylor
(Charlie Sheen). Chris leaves school to enlist in combat and once he starts he quickly questions his
decision. He has two officers, Sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger) and Sergeant Elias (Willem Dafoe).
The two officers have different views; Barnes, who wants revenge because he believes that the VC
(Viet Cong) ground troops are being safeguarded by a local village, and Elias, who has a more
peaceful, less violent demeanor. Tension builds between Barnes and Alias until Barnes shoots a
villager in the head, Elias intervenes preventing annihilation of the village inhabitants. This event
causes the platoon to split into two camps which pit against each other, causing conflict with the
enemy and the men in the platoon.
The film will be examined using the ideological film theory. The film

The Tale Of True Grit
Set in the American frontier in the latter half of the eighteenth century, the tale of True Grit reads like
the diary of a precocious, headstrong, and mature fourteen year old girl. Mattie Ross, the main
character, recruits the callous, no nonsense U.S. Marshal Rooster, Cogburn to aid her in tracking down
Tom Chaney, her father s killer. Cocky, Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, needs Cogburn to guide him through
Indian Territory because he too seeks justice, as well as a monetary reward, for capturing the same
outlaw. Mattie demonstrates her strength of will as well as her resourcefulness, as the troupe takes on
the unexpected in their adventurous wilderness journey. The three main characters; Mattie Ross,
Rooster Cogburn, and Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, all demonstrate true grit in some similar and some
dissimilar ways in both the 1968 novel by Charles Portis and the 2010 film adaptation by the Coen
brothers.
After the Civil War, American society began to move into a new direction and expand. The mid
western and southern states growth is by the production of cotton and tobacco, while the distribution

roles were very distinct at this point in history. However in our story, Mattie Ross bends the rules and

novel this is a consistent character quality of hers. In the very beginning of the film, she

Imperialism In Africa
Imperialism was a time of new inventions, technology, and many other things. Imperialism had many
positive things like, transportation, spread of technology, and an increase in education. Because of
Imperialism transportation became a thing. Also communication with other foreign countries became a
thing. Then there was an increase in education too. Without imperialism transportation would not be a
thing. One example is railroads, railroads are used for transporting people to and from their
destinations. Another example are steamboats, without steamboats people would never be able to
transport their goods to and from. People will say but slaves made these railroads. Well without
transportation everyone would have to walk to every single place we wanted to go. Because of
imperialism spread of languages around the world started to happen. An example of this is that now
tribes can communicate with other foreign countries, this is good because now we can understand
tribes and what they are trying to say to us. Also other foreign countries can communicate with each
other, like africans can now learn and speak english because a lot of Africa s land in taken over by

Reminiscence By Elizabeth Jenning
Throughout Elizabeth Jenning s poem Reminiscence , she explores the changing nature of love and its
transformation between childhood and adulthood. She indulges in the purity of love that exists within
the simplistic aspects of children s lives as she discusses the loss of naivety during the ascendence into
the complexities of adulthood. Demonstrating the innocence of childhood, Jenning s displays a sense
of freedom associated with their lack of anxiety and nuances. In opposition to such, adulthood is
presented to confine Jennings as she deals with the concept of feeling trapped which results in her
conflicting emotions that lead to a celebratory recollection of childhood ease.

Breaking the enjambement that symbolises the innocence of freedom, Jenning s use of a caesura after
the line did not seek to find something they could not touch, illustrates the cruelty of matured
intimacy. Jenning s exposes her struggle to bear the complicated characteristics of the love she has
grown to become familiar with as she discusses her difficulty to whittle a pattern from the shapeless
stony stuff. Her use of sibilance indicates that she despises the bitter disappointment she experienced
with love as a grown woman. The harsh repetitive sound establishes the fact that adulthood
continuously hurts her which is further reinforced by the noun pattern. A pattern is a regular use of
colour or imagery which reflects the cycle of childhood to adulthood, a sequence of changing love that
Jenning s cannot prevent. A second interpretation to such would be the evidenced idea that Jenning s
battles with the incapability to relate the soft nature of childhood love to the viciousness of adulthood.
The connotations of a pattern are a beautiful childhood drawing which she cannot create out of the

The Theory Of The Natural Sciences
Knowledge, to me, can be defined as information that has been verified, either by self or by the group
and is something that we know and believe. Information on the other hand is not necessarily known by
us as individuals, but nevertheless, it does exist. The sum of all information is therefore our total
potential knowledge. This prescribed title not only implies that the only knowledge possible is shared
knowledge , but that knowledge itself is impossible for an individual to attain. This in turn discounts
hunches, suspicions and theories which are all seen as being forms of personal knowledge . This title
must be used in context for it to hold meaning. In context of the natural sciences, this title holds true
as greater society is not so naive as to believe as fact the thoughts of a single man. But when the
thoughts and ideas of a single man are put through a tried and tested method, such as the scientific
method, tests are carried out, criticism is allowed and improvement is made, only then, with the
relative evidence to back up this solitary man s claim, do we, the group, begin to accept his claim as
knowledge . On the other hand, knowledge of what we deem ethical and morally right, whilst we can
gain this from interaction with the group, is not typically verified by the group, but rather is verified
by ourselves, within our own heads. An important question to ask in conjunction with the prescribed
title is How does knowledge creation differ between areas of

The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable
The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible degradation. The
reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging the cell and then recharging it. The
irreversible forms of degradation vary depending on the types of electrodes and the application of the
battery. However, the irreversible forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of
the discharge/recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible
degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte, corrosion of the
nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative electrolyte, electrode poisoning,
and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal
runaway, which can be described as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and

cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed by a number of
safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured using an extremely toxic metal
cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened through regulation, keen monitoring during
manufacturing, and elevated recycling efficiencies. Currently, there are three major categories of the

Essay about Lesson Plans and Curriculum
Lesson Plans and Curriculum
Students often learn best when they can experience the interrelatedness of subjects within their
curriculum. This unit about the Food Guide Pyramid is designed to be taught to a class of third grade
students through several different disciplines within the school building. The students goal is to
become familiar with the Food Guide Pyramid and to understand its importance in helping them to eat
healthy.
As the unit begins these third grade students will gather a working knowledge of the Food Guide
Pyramid in Health Class. They will then learn to plan a healthy menu by referring to the food guide
pyramid and local restaurant menus. The nutritional values of vegetables will be explored in Social

F. Skinner in that the students responded to a teacher s questions and received positive reinforcement
when giving appropriate answers. As the lesson progresses, however, and the students work with
Microsoft Publisher to create their own menus, they experience a more constructivist approach. Each
group is encouraged to explore a variety of design options and choose one which will allow them to
work to their strengths. This provides a discovery approach to the design factor and allows the group
to learn through a collaborative exercise, emphasizing principles expressed by Brunner and Vygotsky.
Another example can be seen in Lesson Plan 5 in which the students have been motivated to write an
original story after having heard The Very Hungry Caterpillar and after learning about the
author/illustrator Eric Carle.
These third grade authors are invited to create a story emphasizing good nutritional habits and are
encouraged to do so with no other stipulations. This freedom to capitalize on individual strengths
could produce stories written in prose, a dramatic reading, a musical rendition, or a bound book with
illustrations that have been hand drawn or created with a program such as Kid Pix. The variety of
options available emphasizes Gardner s premise to allow a student s innate abilities to shine.
This trend of the lesson beginning as behaviorist in nature and progressing toward a more
constructivist approach can be seen in the other

The Holocaust And The Treatments Of The Holocaust
Imagine being in a place with horror, abandonment, torture, suffering, famine, and misery; in a place
of death, abuse, a hopeless state of mind; dying is better than going through something like this. This
is the exact portrayal of what the victims of the Holocaust have gone through. The Holocaust was the
mass slaughter of (mostly) Jews prior to World War II. They put them into concentration camps and
more than six million Jews were killed. The Nazi Party were heartless, immoral, and inhumane people
who treated the Jews like animals. They thought that the Jews were the reason for the failing economy
of Germany. The Nazi party believed they were doing the right thing to annihilate the race of Jews, but
no one ever has an excuse to torture people who have done nothing wrong; Jews were experimented
on, enslaved, brutalized, and killed; no one should ever go through something like the Jews have
during the Holocaust.
The Nazis performed sadistic experiments on victims during the holocaust without their consent for
the Nazi party advantages. Some victims were froze and heated to death with hypothermia and
sunlamp experiments. Two main ways they used to freeze the victim were to put the person in a icy
vat of water or to put the victim outside naked in sub zero temperatures. (Medical Experiments of the
Holocaust and Nazi Medicine, n.d.) To heat victims, they would put them under sunlamps and waited
until their skin was burned. One victim was repeatedly cooled to unconsciousness

Essay Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello and Iago in William Shakespeare s Play
Othello, the main character in the play is married to Desdemona. At the start of the play Othello is
seen as evil and bad by all the other characters and the audience. Brobantio (Desdemona s father),
dislikes Othello very much at the start of the play. This is because Othello married Desdemona
without her father s consent and Brobantio thinks Othello has used black magic to win Desdemona s
love. Whereas, this isn t the case, Othello married Desdemona because he loved her and she loved
him. Also, in the time period the play is set, women were never seen as very important people in
society and they were seen as the property of men. Usually their husband ... Show more content on

In other words, Desdemona loved Othello for the life threatening things he s done and Othello loved
Desdemona for pitying them. This remark clears his name for marrying Desdemona. The Duke and
Brobantio become convinced that Othello loves Desdemona enough, to set Othello free, without
facing any serious charges. We also learn, Othello is called on business to Cyprus and he has been
most hotly called for , in the court case. In other words, Othello has been called to Cyprus because he
is a very important soldier. Othello takes Desdemona to Cyprus with him. This shows Othello is a kind
and honest man because he is kind enough to take his wife with him, not to leave her behind like many
men would have.
On the other hand, however, the audience see that Iago is evil and bad, the first time they meet him,
whereas, all the characters see him as honest and good at the start of the play. Roderigo is easily
tricked into thinking Iago is going to help get him and Desdemona together, (even though Desdemona
is already married), if he keeps paying Iago to help. Iago is just conning Roderigo out of money; the
audience can see that Iago is evil and bad here but the character, Roderigo, doesn t.
The audience soon finds out that, Iago hates Othello because Othello gave Michael Cassio the job Iago
has been wanting for ages, (Othello s second man in command). Iago also tells the audience

Sinus Infections
A sinus infection, also known as sinusitis, occurs when nasal cavities become inflamed, swollen, and
infected. The condition typically results from a virus and often persists long after other upper
respiratory symptoms have passed. In some instances, fungus or bacteria may be to blame for
sinusitis. Other conditions, including tooth inflections, nasal polyps, and allergies may also contribute
to sinus symptoms and discomfort. Serving patients in Dalton, GA for over 20 years, the team at
Dalton Ear, Nose Throat Associates offers solutions and treatments to help alleviate sinus conditions

Research Paper On Aaron Akamu
I would without a doubt choose the head of the Social Studies department at my school to speak as a
part of Gonzaga s Presidential Speaker Series, Mr. Aaron Akamu. I was always a stickler to the motto,
age does not defy maturity, rather experience. This led me to further appreciate and admire Mr. Akamu
because regardless of his young age, his life experiences led him to the mature individual that he is
now small Hawaiian up bringing, world traveler, and dropped out of college. Yes, many would
question how an individual who dropped out of college could inspire any one, but it is why he dropped
out that made all the difference. Coming from a small, schoolhouse educated community, Aaron
Akamu was industrious and diligent enough throughout his

Operant Conditioning Methods And Research
Introduction
In the article, Operant Conditioning Methods Applied to Research in Chronic Schizophrenia, a study
is described where experimenters used operant conditioning methods to analyze the behavior of non
verbal, lowly motivated, chronic psychotic patients. (Lindsley 118 119) Before this study can be
understood, a brief description of operant conditioning is necessary.
Operant conditioning was a method developed by B.F. Skinner in 1938. (121) Prior to this year,
Skinner became very interested in analyzing the behavior of laboratory animals. He put the animal(s)
in a small enclosure, free to do whatever they wanted. Within the small enclosure, there was a device,
such as a light switch, that the animal could operate by turning it on and off. Every time the animal
turned the light switch on or off, an item that would reinforce the behavior of turning the light switch
on or off, such as a piece of food, would become available to the animal. Skinner believed that by
providing a reinforcing item to the animal every time it displayed the desired behavior of turning the
light switch on an off, the animal would continuously display the target behavior.
Research Questions
Since 1938, operant conditioning has been used extensively by many different professionals to control
many different types of behavior. In the study in this article, experimenters posed the question, How
would individuals with schizophrenia behave in an enclosed space with nothing but a stimulus

Analysing the Female Characters in Henry James Fiction Essay
Analysing the Female Characters in Henry James Fiction A woman it seems to me has no natural place
anywhere; wherever she finds herself, she has to remain on the surface and more or less to control
Discuss James representations of places for women in his novels.
There is an impressive range of female characters in Henry James fiction. Drawn to the world of
wealth and leisure as a subject, a world which was at the same time, ironically the context for his own
hermetic labours as a writer, James perhaps inevitably came to concentrate on the feminine.
Correspondingly, most of his male characters seem to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme so early recognised as particularly James own was the international one, and the expression
of this theme pivoted around the figure of the American girl. The critic W.D. Howells (1958 P.63)
credited James with being the inventor of the International American girl . The American girl, as she
appears in James early stories and novels is independent, moral, free, innocent, and her attractiveness
is either delicate or of a pale and rather asexual kind. In her less refined or serious form, she may be
ignorant, brash or simply naïve. She is, of course, as always unmarried. In using the American girl as
central to his exploration of the interaction of American and European society, it was not at first in the
girl herself that James placed the distinguished American moral consciousness, and when she was

with moral seriousness the conscious response to its clash with social convention was again, in the
early work, usually located in a male onlooker. Her self consciousness according to Habegger (1960,
P.67) developed out of a line of American girls who were absorbed by Europe, withdrew from it, or
were destroyed by it, and this is the reason

transport, storage), which date back to the earliest forms of organised trade (Lambert et. al. 1998, p.
5). The term was initially developed in the context of military activities in the late 18th and early 19th
centuries. A key element of logistics, the trade off between transport and inventory costs, was formally
recognised in economics at least as early as the mid 1880s (Langley 1992, pp. 19 20).
Definition
The concept of logistics has evolved over time in response to factors such as changes in the business
environment. Grunnet (1996, p.32) notes that the focus was inventories in the 1950s, distribution in
the 1960s, production in the 1970s, purchasing/production/sales in the 1980s, and business process in
the 1990s. Logistics can be defined as that part of the supply chain process that plans, implements, and
controls the efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from the
point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customer s requirements.
There are many different types of logistics service providers (LSP s). Prime Assed Provider, Third
Party Logistics Provider or Outsourcing (3PL), Lead Logistics Provider (LLP), Fourth Party Logistics
Provider (4PL), Joint Service Company (JCS) and Virtual Network Consortium are some of the key
types of LSP s.
Out of these types of LSP s, Third Party Logistics or Logistics Outsourcing is the most important and

to know at least something about every aspect of the music business. Gathering content from various
sources leaves you not only with an incomplete picture; but also is a very inefficient use of your
valuable time and energy. In light of that we have put together the perfect knowledge resource for
theArtist Management; saving you valuable time, effort and money so that you can leverage the
information into actionable intelligence and generate income for yourself and your artists or clients.
The logical sequence in a how to manner that you can use much like a to a to do list; making sure all
the important aspects are taken care of before you move on to the next task.
The information of the artists are stored in the database, FAME can access the database where they
can achieve the business goals of the customers and to act on the artists within the budget. The
application helps managers to set the new goals for the artists to assign new assignments by creating

Polar Bears In Canada
Canada is home to many species of rich heritage, cultural significance and meaning to the Canadian
people. Of the many species, one holds a strong iconic significance that plays a vital role in the very
ecosystem it resides in. The polar bear species are undoubtedly the apex predator of its food chain and
a culturally significant species to the indigenous people. With both these traits, it makes the polar bear
a true Canadian symbol which is further emphasized by its very place on the Canadian two dollar coin
to the strength and endurance represented by this majestic species. However, no matter how strong
and enduring the polar bears are to the arctic, such resilience is not as effective against the harsh
changes their environment has gone through. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

were not for the disadvantageous situation the species currently face, it would likely not pose a threat
at all. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the threats faced by polar bears in Canada
such as global warming, bioaccumulation of mercury, biomagnification of polychlorinated biphenyls

  • 5. Stereotypes In Hailee Steinfeld s Most Girls Can I be a girl without wearing the stereotypical girly clothes? Hailee Steinfeld s song Most Girls talks about the two types of girls that exist. The first one is the girly girl that wear cute items: skirts, dresses, heels, tight clothing, and piercings on the body. She is very pretty since she wears make up, while the second on is a tomboy that dresses casual clothes, doesn t care what they wear, and is most likely bisexual or lesbian. She defines these types by their wardrobe, actions, and how they want to succeed in life through their own unique way. Society tells them that is how a girl should portray herself. No matter how you act or dress, at the end of the day you are a girl and no one can tell you otherwise. The artist is a female and her style can be girly and tomboyish because that s who she is. When I first heard this song I felt like I was finally understood that I am a girl without those stereotypes. This song helped me realize I should be comfortable with myself and knowing not all girls, like myself, feel that they have to live up to the stereotypical expectation of being a girly girl and shouldn t define by any stereotypes, free to live by her own expectation, not society. First time I heard this song on the radio I was filled with so much enjoyment thinking it was my birthday and the attention was all on me. I thought back to when I was a kid, I hated wearing skirts, dresses, Skorts (shorts attach under a skirt) and wearing cute petite shoes. I was forced to wear these items, but mostly I wore T shirts, jeans, sweats, and Chuck Taylor Converse in white, black, gray, black and white all the time. I felt wearing sweatpants, looking like a princess was the person I felt comfortable as. My grandma hated taking me shopping because I never wanted to go to the extremely girly section. I felt like I was in a world of bubble gum with so much pink, unicorns, and all that girly stuff. I do not hate pink, but I m not too fond of it. In the Catholic faith, it was common to deploy supernatural weapons against the devil, such as candles and holy water. The weapons were thought to offer protection against evil spirits, and as Darren Oldridge comments in his book; The Devil and the Reformation , even the ringing of church bells was accepted as protection against flying demons. Catholics believed that their traditional rituals such as these protected them from the evils of the devil and therefore they weren t as scared of him as they could have been, these magical rituals that helped them face him. The Early human migration was an event that eventually led to all of the known world s current human population and their various locations. Homo erectus (before Homo sapiens) began their journey by migrating through both the Levantine corridor and the Horn of Africa all the way to Eurasia during the Early Pleistocene. However, if we are to look at Homo sapiens and Neanderthals, it is believed that they retreated back to Africa and did not proceed to go east across Asia until approximately 75,000 years ago. They achieved this by wandering across the Bab el Mandib connecting Ethiopia and Yemen. But, what caused them to make the journey across such vast lands? Why bother making it at all? The answers to these questions can even be seen in the world of today. War, Climate change, lack of food, and diseases are all reasons as to why the migration proceeded. How Does Shakespeare Use Gender Reversal In King Lear Throughout history, society has always looked at itself with certain stereotypes in mind, which encompass the behavior of classes, roles assumed by genders, or expectations of children. The motif of role reversal exhibits prevalence in Shakespeare s King Lear. Shakespeare explores this motif to discuss transformations in class, gender, and parent child relationships. The transformation in the character of Lear can be traced from his position a king through his downward spiral into madness. Using this degradation of position in society, Shakespeare establishes the context for both the main plot and subplot. Initially, Lear overexerts his power as the King. Shakespeare demonstrates Lear s abuse of power through the banishment of Kent and disinheritance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The play begins with the reversal of stereotypical gender roles. Shakespeare portrays this reversal initially through how Lear relinquishes his power and apportions it between his two daughters. In the time period, it was uncommon for a king to step down prior to his death, even more so to his daughters. Shakespeare uses this gender reversal for plot construction by initiating the class reversal, and character development by unveiling Goneril s and Regan s true personalities. Shakespeare also reverses the gender roles within a marriage. In Albany s marriage with Goneril, Albany does nothing to prevent Goneril s actions. For the time period, a husband ignoring the actions of his wife was very uncommon as women possessed less freedom than how Shakespeare portrays it. However, Shakespeare reverses these initially reverse gender roles through Albany s abnegation of her actions. Albany s line in 5.3 clearly demonstrates his rejection. Most monstrous! O! • 24. The History Of Product Design The history of product design is a fickle subject. Through the years, the wheel has been invented and re invented many a time. That is because design is fluid. But at the same time, design is constant. Often the past inspires the present. Even more, the ideas of what the future can hold can end up creating the future of design. These design ideas can be seen trickling into both the works of Vico Magistretti and James Dyson. Often it is said that no one creates anything new anymore. It is true that you can t reinvent the wheel, but it can certainly be seen that designs from the past often inspire the future of design. Designs by Vico Magistretti in the 20th century have similar aesthetics to the designs of James Dyson, a 21st century inventor, and designer. Designs of James Dyson show that the present is rooted in the past. Designs and products of Vico Magistretti show that simple designs are timeless. Designs and products of James Dyson show that basic design philosophies are often repeated through time. Vico Magistretti is best known not just as an industrial designer, but as an architect as well. It actually seems like a natural combination. Even Frank Lloyd Wright is known to have designed the entire living experience surrounding his architectural planning. While Magistretti did not so far as to even design the clothes the homeowners were to wear, it only makes sense that Magistretti would envision his designs housed within yet another one of his designs. ... The topics I am going to write about are fossil evidence, the origin of life, and Darwin s theory of natural selection. I will be presenting a view of both sides of the argument they will be on the creation side and evolution standpoint. I would suggest that you, the reader, would have a previous knowledge of all the topics so that you may get a full understanding of both sides. If there is no prior knowledge of one side or another know that not all people that have beliefs in any of these topics agree with all of these standings. There will be three topics discussed that will provide a view of two sides of the argument on the way that life happened upon earth. For the views of fossil evidence I will present the ideas of relative dating, this is the assumption that the lower layers of strata are older than the ones atop. For the creationist, view that a Great Flood happened. The next topic is the origin of life. For the two views I will present the Miller Urey experiment why it proves evolution and why it doesn t. For my final topic I will present Darwin s ideas of natural selection why it proves evolution and why it does not. Fossil evidence is a leading example of why evolution is true. Chronic insomnia was revealed to be in direct relation to a neurochemical imbalance in 2008 that makes it difficult for the brain to get ready for sleep. Someone who is affected for more than six months has 30 percent less gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is chemically induced throughout the brain to slow activity down (McKeever,2008). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that helps regions of the brain shut down by reducing electrical activity (Mehta,2008). This attributes to overactivity being present at not only the level of excessive thoughts and emotions but at the nervous system as well (McKeever,2008). Petroglyphs are images created by carving, pecking or incising images into rock surfaces. The most common rock art element found in the Coso Range is that of bighorn sheep (129). This model suggest that bighorn sheep represent mythical spirit helpers that were in the center of shamanistic activities, including hallucinations and trances. Since bighorn sheep held a minimal role in the diet during the late Haiwee and early Marana Period, rituals performed resulted in images of bighorn sheep being carved to attract rain to the Coso Range as a means to increase productivity of plants. It was said that Numic men would enter a dream states or drug induced trances during rain rituals. The mental imprints obtained during these experiences were transcribed as rock art images. These images were thought to portray transformation of men into spirit helpers or bighorn sheep. These half anthropomorphic, half zoomorphic figures recorded were featured as evidence, however, problems arose with this model. For instance, this model required the rock art to have been created post 1000BP, since the model proposes that Numic groups from the Great Basin were the ones that brought these rituals. However, the Numic Expansion did not occur until 1000BP and bighorn sheep petroglyphs seem to have developed in the Coso Range prior to the Numic Expansion. Also, the hallucinogens that produce the particular sequence that some have argued these images capture were not available in prehistoric North America. In addition, the ethnographic footing of this model is challenged since no ethnographic connection has been proposed between the native people and the pecked images of bighorn sheep for rain making. Some ethnographic accounts connect shamanism with the Coso region, weather control as a shamanic activity, rain shamans with bighorn spirit helpers and rock art with shamans, but no particular ethnographic evidence has been made to connect all concepts. • 38. The Theory Of The Natural Sciences Knowledge, to me, can be defined as information that has been verified, either by self or by the group and is something that we know and believe. Information on the other hand is not necessarily known by us as individuals, but nevertheless, it does exist. The sum of all information is therefore our total potential knowledge. This prescribed title not only implies that the only knowledge possible is shared knowledge , but that knowledge itself is impossible for an individual to attain. This in turn discounts hunches, suspicions and theories which are all seen as being forms of personal knowledge . This title must be used in context for it to hold meaning. In context of the natural sciences, this title holds true as greater society is not so naive as to believe as fact the thoughts of a single man. But when the thoughts and ideas of a single man are put through a tried and tested method, such as the scientific method, tests are carried out, criticism is allowed and improvement is made, only then, with the relative evidence to back up this solitary man s claim, do we, the group, begin to accept his claim as knowledge . On the other hand, knowledge of what we deem ethical and morally right, whilst we can gain this from interaction with the group, is not typically verified by the group, but rather is verified by ourselves, within our own heads. An important question to ask in conjunction with the prescribed title is How does knowledge creation differ between areas of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible degradation. The reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging the cell and then recharging it. The irreversible forms of degradation vary depending on the types of electrodes and the application of the battery. However, the irreversible forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of the discharge/recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte, corrosion of the nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative electrolyte, electrode poisoning, and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal runaway, which can be described as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and voltage. The batteries are also susceptible to gassing, which can lead to the buildup of pressure in the cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed by a number of safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured using an extremely toxic metal cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened through regulation, keen monitoring during manufacturing, and elevated recycling efficiencies. They thought that the Jews were the reason for the failing economy of Germany. The Nazi party believed they were doing the right thing to annihilate the race of Jews, but no one ever has an excuse to torture people who have done nothing wrong; Jews were experimented on, enslaved, brutalized, and killed; no one should ever go through something like the Jews have during the Holocaust. The Nazis performed sadistic experiments on victims during the holocaust without their consent for the Nazi party advantages. Two main ways they used to freeze the victim were to put the person in a icy vat of water or to put the victim outside naked in sub zero temperatures. Research Paper On Aaron Akamu I would without a doubt choose the head of the Social Studies department at my school to speak as a part of Gonzaga s Presidential Speaker Series, Mr. Aaron Akamu. I was always a stickler to the motto, age does not defy maturity, rather experience. This led me to further appreciate and admire Mr. Akamu because regardless of his young age, his life experiences led him to the mature individual that he is now small Hawaiian up bringing, world traveler, and dropped out of college. Yes, many would question how an individual who dropped out of college could inspire any one, but it is why he dropped out that made all the difference. • 45. Operant Conditioning Methods And Research Introduction In the article, Operant Conditioning Methods Applied to Research in Chronic Schizophrenia, a study is described where experimenters used operant conditioning methods to analyze the behavior of non verbal, lowly motivated, chronic psychotic patients. (Lindsley 118 119) Before this study can be understood, a brief description of operant conditioning is necessary. Operant conditioning was a method developed by B.F. Skinner in 1938. (121) Prior to this year, Skinner became very interested in analyzing the behavior of laboratory animals. He put the animal(s) in a small enclosure, free to do whatever they wanted. Within the small enclosure, there was a device, such as a light switch, that the animal could operate by turning it on and off. Every time the animal turned the light switch on or off, an item that would reinforce the behavior of turning the light switch on or off, such as a piece of food, would become available to the animal. Skinner believed that by providing a reinforcing item to the animal every time it displayed the desired behavior of turning the light switch on an off, the animal would continuously display the target behavior. Research Questions Since 1938, operant conditioning has been used extensively by many different professionals to control many different types of behavior. In the study in this article, experimenters posed the question, How would individuals with schizophrenia behave in an enclosed space with nothing but a stimulus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysing the Female Characters in Henry James Fiction Essay Analysing the Female Characters in Henry James Fiction A woman it seems to me has no natural place anywhere; wherever she finds herself, she has to remain on the surface and more or less to control Discuss James representations of places for women in his novels. There is an impressive range of female characters in Henry James fiction. Drawn to the world of wealth and leisure as a subject, a world which was at the same time, ironically the context for his own hermetic labours as a writer, James perhaps inevitably came to concentrate on the feminine. Correspondingly, most of his male characters seem to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme so early recognised as particularly James own was the international one, and the expression of this theme pivoted around the figure of the American girl. The critic W.D. Howells (1958 P.63) credited James with being the inventor of the International American girl . The American girl, as she appears in James early stories and novels is independent, moral, free, innocent, and her attractiveness is either delicate or of a pale and rather asexual kind. In her less refined or serious form, she may be ignorant, brash or simply naïve. She is, of course, as always unmarried. In using the American girl as central to his exploration of the interaction of American and European society, it was not at first in the girl herself that James placed the distinguished American moral consciousness, and when she was endowed Imran Hussain Henry James with moral seriousness the conscious response to its clash with social convention was again, in the early work, usually located in a male onlooker. Her self consciousness according to Habegger (1960, P.67) developed out of a line of American girls who were absorbed by Europe, withdrew from it, or were destroyed by it, and this is the reason ...
