“Greasy Lake” Essay
Greasy Lake by T. C. Bolyle narrated from the perspective of an unnamed narrator, told as a reflective
account of his youth. In the story, he recounts details of his experiences on a summer evening with
two friends. The reader experiences the misadventures of the protagonist that night along as told from
the viewpoint of the now mature narrators retrospective. Exposed in the story are two character traits
of the protagonist. Those traits are immaturity and rebellion, along with the trait of introspection on
the part of the narrator. Accordingly the protagonist s lack of maturity is shown in a lack of concern
for the consequences of his actions combined with his belief that a bad reputation was all he needed

The protagonist holds to his immature beliefs that by looking, acting and maintaining a false façade as
a dangerous character (Boyle,114) it would bestow on him an the badness he desires. Additionally we
see his rebelliousness, targeted at what he views as a life that is normal and boring. He rebels by
dressing in punk style clothes, paid for by his parents.he read s book s by author such as André Gide
(Boyle, 115) who was noted for works that explored conflict and rebellion. His behaviors and those of
his friends are used to set themself s outside of society , to be perceived as rebels .With their use of
drugs ,drinking, cruising all night long and gliding off to the hoped for glory of Greasy Lake. They
strike a pose of teenage rebellion ,all paid for by their parents. By being expert in the social graces
(Boyle, 115) they are slick and quick (Boyle, 115) in an rebellious stand against what their parents
want for them Thus the narrator of the story, as an older and more mature man, tells the story as an
introspective look back at his misadventures. The protagonist begins to gain some insight into his
possible future while in the primordial ooze (Boyle, 119) of Greasy lake .After finding the floating
body and dealing with the destruction of his mothers battered station wagon he is mre reflective of the
situation he is in. The narrator, looking back at

Information Lifecycle Management
Information Lifecycle Management
How do you think information lifecycle management will affect coordination and conflicts between
operations managers and information technology managers?
It has become progressively more documented that information is the most important strategic
resource that any organization has to deal with. Key to the compilation, analysis, production and
allocation of information within an organization is the quality of IT services provided to the business.
It is necessary that it is recognized that IT services are vital, strategic, organizational assets and
consequently organizations must invest suitable levels of resources into the support, delivery and
management of these vital IT services and the IT systems that support them. The challenges for IT
managers are to co ordinate and work in collaboration with the businesses to deliver high quality IT
services. This has to be accomplished while adopting a more business and customer oriented approach
to delivering services and cost optimization (Cartlidge, Hanna, Rudd, Macfarlane, Windebank Rance,
2007). On strategy that businesses can use is that of Information Life Cycle Management (ILM) which
is a broad approach to managing the course of an information system s data and related metadata from
formation and early storage to the time when it becomes outdated and is done away with. Different
from earlier approaches to data storage management, ILM involves all facets of managing data,

Essay On Implicit Authentication
There are several efforts done to give solutions for restrictions on the implicit authentication. These
efforts will be discussed in this section. Traditional authentication methods depend on possession of
private data (i.e. passwords, pattern). Also, physiological biometrics based on algorithms that use
distinct personal features, such as fingerprints or iris patterns. Lately, behavior based authentication
uses the private behavior for users, e.g., gestures and gaits. Currently, there are many different
physiological biometrics for authentication, such as fingerprints and face patterns [2], and iris patterns
[3]. However, physiology based authentication requires user help in the authentication. For example,

They review methods and features used for this field. They suggested an approach in which a user
must enter gesture in any direction to build user s model to be matched later through a score
computation. However, no implementation is done to show accuracy achieved by the proposed
framework.
Jain et al. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from the
touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed keyboard
application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that uses a keyboard.
The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class SVM. This method
achieved EER of 10.5% for keystroke data, 3.5% for touch data and 2.8% for all data (touch and
keystroke). However, Additional sensors on the devices, such as gyroscopic and rotational sensors, are
ignored in this study. These sensors could differentiate accurately touch data from the keyboard timing
data.
Feng Yao el al [12] have proposed and evaluated a Fuzzy Logic based implicit authentication scheme
for mobile access control. That can maintain a high recognition of legal user activities while enabling
timely detection of adversary user behavior by feeding dynamically computed aggregate score and
threshold based parameters into Fuzzy Logic system to determine the trust status of current user
activity. The proposed Fuzzy Logic based authentication

Pros And Cons Of Global Warming
First Draft As global warming continues to rise and endangers the world, humans within the United
States should raise up and prevent this problem by reducing our carbon footprint to stabilize our
world. As long as global warming is still within the world, it will threaten the human race as well as
every other organism. There are many ways to prevent this destruction from occurring such as
controlling our carbon footprint, reducing CO2 emissions and changing our lifestyles. If everyone
contributes to these methods, we can reduce global warming and save the world for more generations.
1.Global warming is very dangerous and can harm many people. According to the article, Europe s
Hot, Fiery Summer Linked to Global Warming, Study Shows, author Bob Berwyn and Insideclimate
News claims that global warming is affecting Europe in devastating ways, such as wildfires. The
authors state how as temperatures go up we are approaching very high heatwaves. They then provide
information about previous heatwaves that have killed 70,000 people in Europe. This shows that this
could happen again if the temperature raises high enough in 2017. Temperature has raised so much
that it isn t surprising in 2017. If 2 percent celsius were to raise having a heat wave summer goes up
almost 50%. 2.Society also must reduce our carbon footprint to make warming better. This ted talk

6.5% yearly. The figure also shows that aviation sector will continue growing for the next 30 years
almost at same level. In 1994, the aviation sector provided 24 million jobs globally and financially
provided $1,140 billion in annual gross output (Lee, September 2000). The companies operating
aircrafts look for aircrafts with highest performance to make the best profit. The key performance for
that is the fuel consumption per passenger kilometre. Figure 2 shows that from 1960 to 2008 the fuel
consumed per passenger kilometre has been reduced almost to half, almost 27000 new commercial jet

Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory
who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster
than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to
constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can
lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There
are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness
(answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal
effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is
distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on
learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly
identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand
the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system
has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory
actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism
social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the
social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is

Essay On Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a major cause of worldwide vision loss with a rate of
0.012% in the US.1 It is associated with retinal breaks, posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), and
vitreoretinal traction.2 During a PVD, the posterior vitreous cortex separates from the internal limiting
membrane of the retina. Areas of traction exist at sites of strong vitreo retinal adhesions and may lead
to a retinal tear as the vitreous pulls on the retina. RRD occurs when a tear in the retina leads to
subretinal fluid accumulation in the space between the neurosensory retina and the underlying retinal
pigment epithelium (RPE).2 Symptoms of RRD may include photopsia, floaters, and a curtain over
the vision. The greatest risk is found in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atrophic holes caused by the atrophy of the sensory retina have a low risk for a subsequent RD.6 In
contrast, retinal tears, such as horseshoe tears, are caused by vitreous traction and have a higher risk of
a subsequent RD.6 Scleral depression is used to examine the peripheral retina that may be hard to
access with indirect ophthalmoscopy alone in order to identify all retinal breaks.1 OCT is useful in
differentiating between a macula on and macula off RRD, as well as revealing the presence of any
subretinal fluid. The prognosis for a macula off RRD is typically worse than that of a macula on RRD.
The standard of practice in a macula on RRD is to maintain baseline vision and operate within 24
hours to reduce the possibility of macular detachment.7 In a macula off RRD, the liquefied vitreous
enters the subfoveal space, leading to photoreceptor death and retinal anoxia, which may cause
permanent vision loss.7 Multiple studies have shown that surgery should be performed within a
window of 7 to 10 days to maximize visual outcome because the longer the photoreceptors are
separated from the underlying RPE, the greater the atrophy.5 Kim et. al. showed that the cumulative
mean BCVA rapidly worsened when the detachment period exceeded 6 days.8,9 This implies that
surgery after a macula off RD should be done within 7 days.9,10 Hassan et. al. showed that surgery
performed within the first 10 days of macular detachment achieved excellent

called nerve impulses or action potentials. Neuron is the main cellular component of the nervous
system, a specialized type of cell that integrates electrochemical activity of the other neurons that are
connected to it and that propagates that integrated activity to other neurons. They are the basic
information processing structures in the CNS. There are as many as 10,000 specific types of neurons

Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with the
appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes a
computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are
mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal
produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over
the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the
electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference
electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating
properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the
electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation
is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because
conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more
slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate
overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. The electrical current activates nerves in the

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to
contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to
stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my eyes
Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to videos,
which contain knowledge that would be much harder to obtain ... Show more content on

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have too
much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through emotional
stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us down really
easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an arguement,
but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a
game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life
things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. Games are
great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that stack of
homework done, I can always do it later, but then later I ll say the

Test The Water Usage Of The Smart Agricultural System
To test the water usage of the smart agricultural system, data was collected for the three different types
of algorithms implemented for this project: timed based, reactive, and proactive control of the
environment. The timed based algorithm turns the water pump on based only on the time of the day.
The reactive algorithm turns the water pump on only if the soil moisture falls below a certain
threshold. The first two algorithms only consider one type of data for their algorithms, either time or
soil moisture. Comparatively, the proactive algorithm actively monitors the environmental conditions
to determine the best time to turn the water pump on. The proactive algorithm monitors the soil
moisture, temperature, humidity, pressure, time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be compared to high temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius and low temperatures of 18 degrees
Celsius in the indoor environment. The reduced temperature variation helps to protect the plants from
the extreme weather conditions that the proactive, smart algorithm is able to compensate for.
However, since extreme environments would be difficult to reproduce accurately, this factor was not
considered for this test. Additionally, because the temperature variation would be applied equally to
each of the environments, it was deemed a non significant factor for the purposes of this test.
Rain however, was deemed a significant factor for this test. This test is centered on the water usage of
the system and as a result, it is important to see the effect of rain on the system. To accurately simulate
rain, 20mL of water was dispensed to each of the environments on the 3rd day of the test. The water
was dispensed using a measuring cup containing the set amount of water. The weather data was also
spoofed to change the weather status to rain. This was accomplished by replacing the weather JSON
file that would have been requested from openweather.org, with a fake weather JSON file with the
spoofed values. Finally, it should be noted that the sensor module pushes new data to the Webserver at
a rate of one packet every minute. Since the Webserver only updates the turn water on command when
new data is

What is leadership? Leadership is both a process and a property. As a process, leadership involves the
use of non coercive influence. As a property, leadership is the set of characteristics attributed to
someone who is perceived to use influence successfully. (Moorhead and Griffin, 1998) This book was
written by Oren Harari, a management professor and consultant. He said he met Powell years ago after
hearing him speak to an audience on his audacious Wall Street Journal speech. He claimed this speech
inspired him to write this great book about the great successor. He also felt a leader of this magnitude
should be admired and heard worldwide. I t was then, Harari began to write. Harari considers Powell
as one of the world s most effective, bottom line leaders. Throughout this book, Harari displays
Powell s key to loyalty, entrusting his staff, valuing opinions of others, and establishing respect for
authority figures. In The Leadership Secrets of Colin Powell, Harari gives a unique perspective on the
many roles of Colin Powell and the way he became the great leader he is today. The book provides
excellent food for thought, while describing the benefits and difficulties faced by managers,
supervisors, and leaders at all levels of any kind of organization. Harari takes the concept of leadership
off its pedestal and shares the most important attributes and qualities that bring leaders success,

A Discussion Of Constitutional Law And Its Relationship...
A Discussion of Constitutional Law and Its Relationship with Education Education is not explicitly
mentioned in the United States Constitution, but instead, education is one of the powers reserved to
the states. Power not specifically given to the federal government is reserved for the states through the
Tenth Amendment of the Unites States Constitution. Therefore, states have plenary, or absolute, power
in the area of education. While states may hold this reserved power, with regard to education the
federal government has found power through mandates that must be met in order for states to receive
federal funding for education. Texas has one of the longest Constitutions in the nation and reads

Constitution). While not specifically mentioning education, this amendment guarantees that any child
in Texas has the right to free education given to any other child regardless of nationality. The First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution has been examined extensively with regards to education. Most
notably the clause in the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of speech , has been
scrutinized through the judicial system. While students and educators do not shed their constitutional
rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate (Tinker v. Des Moines), in the
educational setting an individual s rights cannot interfere with the schools educational mission. The
U.S. Constitution separates powers between the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
Federalism guarantees that power is shared between national and state governments. The judicial
branch often acts as a referee between the federal and state governments when deciding on issues that
seem to cross jurisdictions. Texas Constitution While the U.S. Constitutions assigns power of
education to states, Texas Constitution assumes that power and prescribes the structure and operation
of Texas public schools. Article VII in the Texas Constitution establishes public schools, asylums and
universities. The Texas Constitution guarantees free public education for all students. Public lands are

Paper One: People of color
Why do people think just by passing laws that the issues are resolved? Lauryn Hill is an African
American legend who was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She is famous for her wonderful music
and her marvelous poems. Ms. Hill is very multi talented, due to her singing, writing, and guitar skills.
Ms. Hill wrote one of her famous poems called Mystery of Iniquity. Her poem Mystery of Iniquity
was about her critique of the criminology of criminal justice system. The poem Mystery of Iniquity
was written May 7, 2008, and made a huge effect of African Americans. During the 2008 era black
people were moving on up toward victory because we had our first African American president Barack
Obama.
A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa park
is a perfect example of the definition iniquity. Rosa is an activist who had to give up her seat an
educated black woman to a white man on a public bus. She was treated with an unfair lack of justice.
People of color have been discriminated all of their lives due to the fact that they are born darker then
others. Black people get discriminated against every day because we are always being accused of
breaking the law when in reality we really are not doing anything. People of color have no justice
when it comes to the law. Black people has been treated fairly when it comes to anything. People of

Drill and discipline, are what make it possible for a victory in battle. If warriors going into battle are
not accurately trained in the practice of drill and discipline it can result in a mere senseless blood
brawl ending with large amounts of casualties and grave losses. In the battle of Agincourt 1415 is was
a battle between King Henry V of England whom wanted to reclaim lands both won and lost during
the previous century from France which was under the rule of King Charles VI although the army
outnumbered the English, it was in this battle the French suffered many casualties due to poor strategy.

battle must have put pressure of numbers and desperation [which evenly] caused the French to spill

Waterloo there are noticeable changes compared to the battle of Agincourt besides the change in
weapons. The first is the size and organization of military units on the field as show in John Keegan s

units, this is has created a spread out line rather than a tight knit line used in the battle of Agincourt,
allowing more movement and opportunity to inflict more damage on the enemy. The second

Perseverance Book Report
This year, I came across a book titled Perseverance! The Story of Thomas Alva Edison (Murray,
1997). This book is a short timeline of Thomas Edison that highlights his many achievements along
with his many failures in his pursuit of accomplishment. I read this to my students in hopes they
would recognize the importance of having the courage to take a risk and the resilience to keep trying.
My students loved this book and we referred back to it throughout the year. In combination with a
growth mindset, I encouraged them to take risk, even though it might result in failure, and learn how
to persevere. I agree that there is a decline in the measure of grit in today s classroom, but also

I will admit this is something I have expressed my opinion about as well. My kids are very involved in
sports, especially competitive baseball. I have mixed feelings about this. When competing in a
tournament, there are no participation medals or such thing as third place. I have two boys, both with
different levels of self confidence, and see not only the difference in their attitude, but also in how I
respond to their disappointments. Is this fair? I am not sure it is, but in one child I am still developing
resilience and determination, and in the other I am further building on his desire to achieve. I have
raised them both with the same values and have supported their self worth the same, however, where
one is lacking in courage and resilience, the other has endurance and drive. My eldest boy is not
confident and is afraid of failure. I often add yet when encouraging him to try again. He is prone to
give up and assume there is no chance of success. My youngest son is determined, confident, and
driven. I find myself using the term next time quite often and not really focusing on the individual
aspect. This begs to question, how is grit cultivated? As discussed in our text, the affective domain
represents a time for emotional development and coping strategies (Kostelnik, Soderman, Whiren,
Rupiper, 2015). During this time, it is essential that teachers are able to recognize a child s emotions,
help to develop resilience, and promote self worth. Providing an environment where children feel safe

Both the Western and the Eastern halves considered themselves Roman s even though Eastern Rome

Manufacturing Dutch wooden shoes and aprons
Stacie Hart
Trine University
Introduction
Mass manufacturing entails the production of products in large quantities and it s the advantages that
come with such kind of production that makes it attractive to many manufacturing companies
(Libralato et al., 2012). One of the advantages of mass production is that all equipment, material and
labor required are located under the same roof. Mass manufacturing is profound in various industries
including the automobile industry, textile industry, and telecommunication industry among others
(Qiao et al., 2006).
This essay will delve on mass manufacturing of Dutch wooden shoes and aprons including
presentation of budget estimates where applicable. An in depth analysis was conducted on existing
literature on the same in order to understand the traditional process of manufacturing these products
followed by an analysis of some recent literature explaining the modernized process of manufacturing
these products. In addition to that, the review of these literatures helped in understanding how the use
of these products has evolved over the years.
1st division: Wooden shoe manufacturing
The wooden Dutch clogs were water proof, which made them very useful while working in marshy
fields. Besides being used in fields while working, some of the wooden shoes were made to look
colorful so that they could be used to attend occasions and even go to church. With industrialization,

Hank Williams Influence On American Music
Despite Hank Williams rough childhood and spina bifida, he made a lasting impression on American
music and is still inspirational to young musicians.

Once Hank picked up the style that Rufus was doing he made it famous and this is the first time that

Figurative Language In Mirrors By Justin Timberlake
The song Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of figurative language I will prove a couple cases
where that is true.
Mirrors by Justin Timberlake has a lot of simile. A simile is a figure of speech involving the
comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind. It is used to make a description more
empathic or vivid. The quote it s like you re my mirror from the song is a simile you know for a fact
that it is a simile because a person cannot be a mirror. So Justin Timberlake is comparing a mirror to a
person. A mirror and a person are nothing alike so you can automatically see that it is a direct
comparison.
This song also has a lot of symbolism. Symbolism is an artistic and poetic movement or style using
symbolic ages and

In the novel, Passing Time, Ehrhart experiences change. For instance, Ehrhart begins to realize that the
war was a huge mistake on the government s behalf. Ehrhart believed that the government shouldn t
have taken part in the Vietnamese war due to the innocent deaths that developed over the years. Many
of the soldiers, including Ehrhart, were traumatized by the killings during the war. Ehrhart often

The police treated the protest as if it was a riot. The police didn t give a reasonable warning, but
insisted on beating civilians to death because the police didn t agree with the anti war members
protest. For instance, Ehrhart describes that one woman was being beaten to death by a police officer
and Ehrhart tackled the police officer to the ground (Ehrhart 166). A man had to help Ehrhart drag the
woman to safety after the woman was saved from being beaten to death. Another event that showed
the effects of the anti war movement well after Ehrhart returned from the war was when Ehrhart was
at another anti war protest. Ehrhart was explaining to the public why he decided to go against the war.
Ehrhart explained that he couldn t support something so pointless (Ehrhart 177). Ehrhart believed the
government had made the people believe that they were trying to stop the vast spread of communism.
Ehrhart believed that the government was lying and that President Nixon wanted to start and win
another war (Ehrhart 169). Ehrhart often expressed his anti war movement views to his crew mate,
Roger. When talking to Roger, Ehrhart explains his theory on why he feels lied to by the government.
Ehrhart explained to Roger that Vietnam is nothing but a way for the United States to express their
dominance and control. For example Ehrhart says, what we want is freedom to do business on our
own terms and as much of the damned pie we can grab (Ehrhart 181).

The Silence And Serenity Of The St. Joseph s Abbey Property
From the moment that I stepped out of the car and onto the St. Joseph s Abbey property I noted that
there was a silence, which was peaceful and unusual for me. The dichotomy between the loud sounds
of students walking out of Hogan and cars speeding by at Holy Cross and the silence of the monastery
apart from our group of students conversing with one another was particularly striking. This really
surprised me because it was unusual for me to be in such a calm and silent place and I instantly felt a
feeling of peace come over me. I think that this silence and serenity is indicative of a simpler and
purer life in which one is able to block out all the distractions of the world around them and focus on
their connection with God, which is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reminded me of the humility and simplicity that governs monks lives and was outlined in the
Rule of Saint Benedict. Also, as we entered the church I noted that the seats faced each other, which I
thought was different from my own Catholic church where the pews face the front of the church. The
striking of the bells in the bell tower prompted the monks and other visitors to enter the church. The
order of the service consisted of readings from various scriptures. The first part of the prayer consisted
of the readings of the introductory verse, followed by the hymn of the Office of Holy Virgins, Psalm
134, Canticle: Christ the Image of God, the Magnificat Antiphon, the Canticle of Mary, and finally the
Commemoration of the Blessed Virgin. Prior to entering the church for the service, Brother Francis
pointed out that Cistercian monasticism s prayer service was highly influenced by Gregorian chants.
Accordingly, the service consisted of a Gregorian chant like singing and the monks often stressed
syllables for long periods of time, which made it initially difficult to follow. Moreover, the chanting of
the prayers was accompanied by one of the monks playing an organ in a very repetitive pattern
consisting of only several notes. During the service there was a constant transition between standing
and sitting which occurred during the first reading and

Beyond Analysis Of The Book Beyond The River Chebar Essay
Beyond the River Chebar
Young Hoon (John) Kim
This book, Beyond the River Chebar, is a collection of articles that talks about the kingship and
eschatology in Ezekiel. Block wants to show the proper interpretation of the book of Ezekiel by
providing different views on the interpretation of certain passages and different theological views.
Moreover, Block provides history and other aspects for the better understanding of the book of
Ezekiel.
Daniel Block starts by introducing Zion theology. Zion theology is the Israelites religious attitude
toward Jerusalem. Scholars recognize some Israelites thoughts regarding to the Zion Theology. First,
since worshipping of Yahweh at the national temple in Jerusalem, the Israelites thought that the deity s
enthronement is a central feature. Second, since the Location of the temple is on the peak of Zaphon,
they assume that Zion is the center of the universe. Last, The election of Zion by YHWH is closely
tied to the election of David. From Zion Yahweh s reign of peace and justice extends to the entire
world.
Additionally, Yahweh s kingship, which is the one of the core aspects of the Zion Theology, has poor
evidences in Ezekiel s ministry. The word malak has been used to refer to Yahweh once (Ezek. 20:33).
However, the context does not provide any element that has to do with the enthronement of Yahweh.
In second chapter, the author deals with the royal ideology in Ezekiel. Block briefly talks about the
history of Israel s monarchy

The history of a barn can tell someone a lot about a place and the values of that place. Restoring a
barn takes time and effort, just like anything good in life. Barns are used for much more than just a
storage place, and they can describe a location or be part of a place s history. An old barn could just be
a pile of rotting wood, but by the same token, the Mona Lisa could simply be described as a piece of
canvas with some pigments attached. As one can see, when looking at barns through different
perspectives, one might gain a new appreciation. Barn preservation is an important way for the values

Phaedo by Plato Essay examples
Phaedo by Plato
The opening of Plato s Phaedo finds Socrates constructing a defense of the philosophical life.
When consideration is given to the status of philosophy in Greece at the end of the fifth century
BCE, such a defense seems unnecessary and, at the same time, difficult. This is because ancient
Greece provides us with the origins of philosophy, and yet this particular period in history serves as a
good demonstration of the public s general distaste for and persecution of it. Several philosophers,
including Pythagoras, Anaxagoras, and Protagoras, were ridiculed and attacked for their beliefs. In
spite of these social deterrents, Socrates remained faithful to his life long pursuit, even though it led to
his demise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates believes that the entire philosophical endeavor is a preparation for death and that the true
philosopher looks forward to dying. His students, however, cannot understand why the philosopher
should want to die, and Socrates hopes to dispel their fears of death while bringing them to an
awareness of a figurative death where desires cease to control the soul . In addition to noticing the
figurative nature of death, he also wants them to give further consideration to the literal death as well.
The distinction between these two types of death, figurative and literal, creates two possible avenues
for the philosophical life. Socrates defines death as the release of the soul from the body . This
definition implies both a view of death as placing distance between the soul and the body during this
life and a complete separation at the moment of death. The responsibility of the philosopher is to seek
liberation here in this life and, in so doing, to prepare for the afterlife, as preparation for both the
literal and figurative deaths coalesce into a single activity.
Liberation here in the visible realm comes from recognizing the hindering function of the body in the
soul s search for knowledge. Socrates comments that a soul associated too closely with the body will

Lower Body Adaptations For Power Lifting ( Squats )
Lower Body Adaptations to Power Lifting (Squats) Power is arguably the most important attribute for
an athlete. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic
sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that
function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power
means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for
power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power
training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to
reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and
velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to
produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same
amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that
athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because
gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as
well. It is important to focus your training on the muscle groups and movements that are most alike
the type of sport you are playing. In most cases, the core and lower body

The Value Chain Of Tesco
INTRODUCTION
Large business organisations constitute not only a single strategic business unit, but a culmination of
several business units. The business units which may number anywhere from 4 to as many as 20 or
more cannot be considered as a single, separate and disparate entity. Rather the business units are
attached to each other like a string completing a full circle, where each complements the predecessor
and the successor. The breakdown of any one entity in the chain can have a telling effect on the whole
chain itself. Now depending on the type of sector chosen the units in the business chain vary in
number and complexity. For example unlike a software company the units/ operational units in
company which deals with products/goods are much larger in number. As explained in the previous
lines the units in operation are linked and performance of one affects the performance of the other
units linked to that unit. Value chain management comes in this picture. ... Show more content on

Hope Was Here Character Analysis
Have you ever faced hardship in your life but found your way through it? Well, in the novel Hope Was
Here by Joan Bauer many of the characters go through tremendous obstacles in their life but
eventually overcome them. Examples like Hope and Addie are characters in the novel that faced
struggles but both found ways to overcome them. Their struggles can even be personally related to my
life. While many people see an obstacle and run, Hope and Addie find there ways to overcome them,
and even if things do not always go as planned, things always turn out for the better.
Hope was a character in the novel Hope Was Here who showed struggles throughout the book and
overcame them. She struggled because she lived her life with a mother who was barely with her and a
father who was unknown to both Hope and her mother (Bauer 6,59). She overcame her struggle with
her mom never being there by just accepting that she wasn t the right person to be a mother and that
she would not be around much. Hope knew she would have to get used to Addie being the mother
figure in her life which was not a big challenge for her. Overcoming the absence of her father was
harder for Hope then overcoming her struggles with her mom. Hope knew that her father was out
there somewhere and that he was the perfect father she had daydreamed about. She would cut out

Technological Innovations During World War One
How Significant were Technological Innovations during World War One? World War One brought a
completely new form of warfare. Gone were the old ways of cavalry and slow firing bolt action rifles.
The war symbolised a change in the way we understand and fight wars. Leon Trotsky said that War is
the locomotive of history . This was certainly true. The war was a catalyst for change. I am going to
highlight three areas in which technological innovations made an impact the development of
submarines, the use of gas and the building of railways. I have chosen these three examples to
demonstrate the different ways in which technological innovations affected the course of World War
One. Gas had a huge psychological impact on the soldiers; submarines had a great economic impact,
and the railways allowed the war to be fought on a vast scale never seen before. Significance can be
understood in many different ways. I am going to understand significance by establishing criteria that
will measure significance. These are tactical, military, psychological, economic and social
significances. I believe that the most important measure of significance in World War One is the social
significance because in this war of attrition numbers killed was of great importance. The technological
innovation of the submarine was most significant from an economic perspective because it was crucial
in stopping the flow of supplies across the sea. The submarines impact was felt both during the war,

Not long after, he accidently killed a member of the community and was sent away to live with his

Charlie Fish Use Of Foreshadowing In Death By Scrabble
Charlie Fish s story Death by Scrabble is a suspenseful story about how much a husband wanted to
kill his wife. Fish uses foreshadowing, red herring, and sensory imagery in his story. The use of these
Art of Suspense techniques can inspire readers to continue to the end, wondering what will happen
next.
Foreshadowing is a common technique used in stories, whether it is fiction or nonfiction. In the story,
Death by Scrabble, the author makes it that for every word played in the game, the word, in a way,
comes true. When the husband plays ZAP, his wife gets an electric shock. As well as when he plays
EXPLODES, the air conditioning unit explode[d] (Fish 2). The author hints that the wife is aware of
what her husband is planning when she plays CAUTION as one of her words. When Fish writes about
how much the husband wants to kill his wife, he writes: Maybe I should kill her, if only I had a D,
then I could play MURDER (Fish 1). This leads us, the readers, to believe that the husband wants to
kill his wife and is, in some way, excited to do so. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ron in my life who lives for excitement. As described in the article, they like to smoke, drink, do
drugs, party every weekend and just live it up every day. So I ever wonder what makes someone a risk
taker. Someone who is a risk taker is someone who has a personality trait called sensation seeking.
The traits are the pursuit of novel, intense and complex sensations and experiences, and the

The environment outside of the home, such as accidental life experience and friends is accountable for
40% of the environmental contribution to sensation seeking. Genes are involved due to the personality
traits they influence that is associated with risk taking like the traits of aggression, agreeableness,
aggression, sociability, the main component of extroversion. However, it is noted genes make proteins
that shape our nervous systems, but not directly make traits. Some biological correlate of sensation
seeking is dopamine and enzyme monoamine oxidase. Dopamine is an important brain
neurotransmitter awhile enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO) is a regulator keeping neurotransmitters
in balance. Both of these biological genes are found in high impulsive sensation seeking individuals.
Dopamine is active in the brain s intrinsic reward and pleasure centers, and also found in high
proportion of opiate drug abusers. To high sensation seekers, enzyme monoamine oxidase is low,
implying a lack of regulation without any regard for consequences, which is why men are proved
higher risk takers than women. Since women levels of enzyme monoamine oxidase are higher than
men meaning the imply regulation. There is always a positive and negative to everything, negative in

low risk taking individuals have as much experience like high risk taker. Some people find it in

When a president makes his inauguration speech, it usually talks about what is going on with the

reason that he might have said more about his presidency by saying less. Trump opened his speech,

and should be treated with the same amount of respect as any other. He finished the speech with a
rally of chants that are similar to his slogan Make America Great Again. It made people excited and
pumped up but did not have a very impactful meaning overall. The ending summed up the speech in

  • 3. Information Lifecycle Management Information Lifecycle Management How do you think information lifecycle management will affect coordination and conflicts between operations managers and information technology managers? It has become progressively more documented that information is the most important strategic resource that any organization has to deal with. Key to the compilation, analysis, production and allocation of information within an organization is the quality of IT services provided to the business. It is necessary that it is recognized that IT services are vital, strategic, organizational assets and consequently organizations must invest suitable levels of resources into the support, delivery and management of these vital IT services and the IT systems that support them. The challenges for IT managers are to co ordinate and work in collaboration with the businesses to deliver high quality IT services. This has to be accomplished while adopting a more business and customer oriented approach to delivering services and cost optimization (Cartlidge, Hanna, Rudd, Macfarlane, Windebank Rance, 2007). On strategy that businesses can use is that of Information Life Cycle Management (ILM) which is a broad approach to managing the course of an information system s data and related metadata from formation and early storage to the time when it becomes outdated and is done away with. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from the touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed keyboard application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that uses a keyboard. The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class SVM. This method achieved EER of 10.5% for keystroke data, 3.5% for touch data and 2.8% for all data (touch and keystroke). Pros And Cons Of Global Warming First Draft As global warming continues to rise and endangers the world, humans within the United States should raise up and prevent this problem by reducing our carbon footprint to stabilize our world. As long as global warming is still within the world, it will threaten the human race as well as every other organism. There are many ways to prevent this destruction from occurring such as controlling our carbon footprint, reducing CO2 emissions and changing our lifestyles. If everyone contributes to these methods, we can reduce global warming and save the world for more generations. 1.Global warming is very dangerous and can harm many people. According to the article, Europe s Hot, Fiery Summer Linked to Global Warming, Study Shows, author Bob Berwyn and Insideclimate News claims that global warming is affecting Europe in devastating ways, such as wildfires. The authors state how as temperatures go up we are approaching very high heatwaves. They then provide information about previous heatwaves that have killed 70,000 people in Europe. This shows that this could happen again if the temperature raises high enough in 2017. Temperature has raised so much that it isn t surprising in 2017. The figure also shows that aviation sector will continue growing for the next 30 years almost at same level. In 1994, the aviation sector provided 24 million jobs globally and financially provided $1,140 billion in annual gross output (Lee, September 2000). The companies operating aircrafts look for aircrafts with highest performance to make the best profit. The key performance for that is the fuel consumption per passenger kilometre. Figure 2 shows that from 1960 to 2008 the fuel consumed per passenger kilometre has been reduced almost to half, almost 27000 new commercial jet aircraft sold since 1950s (Daniel Rutherford, Mazyar Zeinali, November 2009). • 7. Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness (answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. • 8. Essay On Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a major cause of worldwide vision loss with a rate of 0.012% in the US.1 It is associated with retinal breaks, posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), and vitreoretinal traction.2 During a PVD, the posterior vitreous cortex separates from the internal limiting membrane of the retina. Areas of traction exist at sites of strong vitreo retinal adhesions and may lead to a retinal tear as the vitreous pulls on the retina. RRD occurs when a tear in the retina leads to subretinal fluid accumulation in the space between the neurosensory retina and the underlying retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).2 Symptoms of RRD may include photopsia, floaters, and a curtain over the vision. Atrophic holes caused by the atrophy of the sensory retina have a low risk for a subsequent RD.6 In contrast, retinal tears, such as horseshoe tears, are caused by vitreous traction and have a higher risk of a subsequent RD.6 Scleral depression is used to examine the peripheral retina that may be hard to access with indirect ophthalmoscopy alone in order to identify all retinal breaks.1 OCT is useful in differentiating between a macula on and macula off RRD, as well as revealing the presence of any subretinal fluid. The prognosis for a macula off RRD is typically worse than that of a macula on RRD. The standard of practice in a macula on RRD is to maintain baseline vision and operate within 24 hours to reduce the possibility of macular detachment.7 In a macula off RRD, the liquefied vitreous enters the subfoveal space, leading to photoreceptor death and retinal anoxia, which may cause permanent vision loss.7 Multiple studies have shown that surgery should be performed within a window of 7 to 10 days to maximize visual outcome because the longer the photoreceptors are separated from the underlying RPE, the greater the atrophy.5 Kim et. al. showed that the cumulative mean BCVA rapidly worsened when the detachment period exceeded 6 days.8,9 This implies that surgery after a macula off RD should be done within 7 days.9,10 Hassan et. al. showed that surgery performed within the first 10 days of macular detachment achieved excellent ... Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with the appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes a computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. Ehrhart believed that the government was lying and that President Nixon wanted to start and win another war (Ehrhart 169). Ehrhart often expressed his anti war movement views to his crew mate, Roger. When talking to Roger, Ehrhart explains his theory on why he feels lied to by the government. The Silence And Serenity Of The St. Joseph s Abbey Property From the moment that I stepped out of the car and onto the St. Joseph s Abbey property I noted that there was a silence, which was peaceful and unusual for me. The dichotomy between the loud sounds of students walking out of Hogan and cars speeding by at Holy Cross and the silence of the monastery apart from our group of students conversing with one another was particularly striking. This really surprised me because it was unusual for me to be in such a calm and silent place and I instantly felt a feeling of peace come over me. I think that this silence and serenity is indicative of a simpler and purer life in which one is able to block out all the distractions of the world around them and focus on their connection with God, which is in ... Also, as we entered the church I noted that the seats faced each other, which I thought was different from my own Catholic church where the pews face the front of the church. The striking of the bells in the bell tower prompted the monks and other visitors to enter the church. The order of the service consisted of readings from various scriptures. The first part of the prayer consisted of the readings of the introductory verse, followed by the hymn of the Office of Holy Virgins, Psalm 134, Canticle: Christ the Image of God, the Magnificat Antiphon, the Canticle of Mary, and finally the Commemoration of the Blessed Virgin. Prior to entering the church for the service, Brother Francis pointed out that Cistercian monasticism s prayer service was highly influenced by Gregorian chants. Accordingly, the service consisted of a Gregorian chant like singing and the monks often stressed syllables for long periods of time, which made it initially difficult to follow. Moreover, the chanting of the prayers was accompanied by one of the monks playing an organ in a very repetitive pattern consisting of only several notes. Beyond Analysis Of The Book Beyond The River Chebar Essay Beyond the River Chebar Young Hoon (John) Kim This book, Beyond the River Chebar, is a collection of articles that talks about the kingship and eschatology in Ezekiel. Block wants to show the proper interpretation of the book of Ezekiel by providing different views on the interpretation of certain passages and different theological views. Moreover, Block provides history and other aspects for the better understanding of the book of Ezekiel. Daniel Block starts by introducing Zion theology. Zion theology is the Israelites religious attitude toward Jerusalem. Scholars recognize some Israelites thoughts regarding to the Zion Theology. First, since worshipping of Yahweh at the national temple in Jerusalem, the Israelites thought that the deity s enthronement is a central feature. Second, since the Location of the temple is on the peak of Zaphon, they assume that Zion is the center of the universe. Last, The election of Zion by YHWH is closely tied to the election of David. From Zion Yahweh s reign of peace and justice extends to the entire world. Additionally, Yahweh s kingship, which is the one of the core aspects of the Zion Theology, has poor evidences in Ezekiel s ministry. The word malak has been used to refer to Yahweh once (Ezek. 20:33). However, the context does not provide any element that has to do with the enthronement of Yahweh. • 29. Phaedo by Plato Essay examples Phaedo by Plato The opening of Plato s Phaedo finds Socrates constructing a defense of the philosophical life. When consideration is given to the status of philosophy in Greece at the end of the fifth century BCE, such a defense seems unnecessary and, at the same time, difficult. This is because ancient Greece provides us with the origins of philosophy, and yet this particular period in history serves as a good demonstration of the public s general distaste for and persecution of it. Several philosophers, including Pythagoras, Anaxagoras, and Protagoras, were ridiculed and attacked for their beliefs. In spite of these social deterrents, Socrates remained faithful to his life long pursuit, even though it led to his demise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates believes that the entire philosophical endeavor is a preparation for death and that the true philosopher looks forward to dying. His students, however, cannot understand why the philosopher should want to die, and Socrates hopes to dispel their fears of death while bringing them to an awareness of a figurative death where desires cease to control the soul . In addition to noticing the figurative nature of death, he also wants them to give further consideration to the literal death as well. The distinction between these two types of death, figurative and literal, creates two possible avenues for the philosophical life. Socrates defines death as the release of the soul from the body . This definition implies both a view of death as placing distance between the soul and the body during this life and a complete separation at the moment of death. The responsibility of the philosopher is to seek liberation here in this life and, in so doing, to prepare for the afterlife, as preparation for both the literal and figurative deaths coalesce into a single activity. Liberation here in the visible realm comes from recognizing the hindering function of the body in the soul s search for knowledge. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as well. It is important to focus your training on the muscle groups and movements that are most alike the type of sport you are playing. In most cases, the core and lower body ... Well, in the novel Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer many of the characters go through tremendous obstacles in their life but eventually overcome them. Examples like Hope and Addie are characters in the novel that faced struggles but both found ways to overcome them. Their struggles can even be personally related to my life. While many people see an obstacle and run, Hope and Addie find there ways to overcome them, and even if things do not always go as planned, things always turn out for the better. Hope was a character in the novel Hope Was Here who showed struggles throughout the book and overcame them. She struggled because she lived her life with a mother who was barely with her and a father who was unknown to both Hope and her mother (Bauer 6,59). She overcame her struggle with her mom never being there by just accepting that she wasn t the right person to be a mother and that she would not be around much. • 34. Technological Innovations During World War One How Significant were Technological Innovations during World War One? World War One brought a completely new form of warfare. Gone were the old ways of cavalry and slow firing bolt action rifles. The war symbolised a change in the way we understand and fight wars. Leon Trotsky said that War is the locomotive of history . This was certainly true. The war was a catalyst for change. I am going to highlight three areas in which technological innovations made an impact the development of submarines, the use of gas and the building of railways. I have chosen these three examples to demonstrate the different ways in which technological innovations affected the course of World War One. Gas had a huge psychological impact on the soldiers; submarines had a great economic impact, and the railways allowed the war to be fought on a vast scale never seen before. Significance can be understood in many different ways. I am going to understand significance by establishing criteria that will measure significance. These are tactical, military, psychological, economic and social significances. I believe that the most important measure of significance in World War One is the social significance because in this war of attrition numbers killed was of great importance. The technological innovation of the submarine was most significant from an economic perspective because it was crucial in stopping the flow of supplies across the sea.
