Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor s office, it was so dark in the streets I almost
tripped on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so
excited because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like
banners, streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
then JINKS. We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piГ±ata.] it was all so
fun. After the party while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when
me and Hunter where about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we
would open The Book of Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the
box was a lot of tissue paper and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the
box that held the book and brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it
was that book that had cased all that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell
out. We each took one, my paper said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter
both have powers, yours are Invisible, shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go
back in time, super speed, super strong, teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls,
and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed
feeling confused, and powerful if you know what I mean. 6

Elite Society In George Orwell s Animal Farm
In today s world it is quite common for there to be elite societies, whether it is a result from
power or intellect. The formation of an elite society is based on how others respond to others
actions. In the novel, Animal Farm, the elite society of Animal Farm is the result of the actions of
both the pigs and the lower animals as well. The pigs use their superior knowledge to manipulate
the lower animals, and the lower animals do not rebel against the pigs or recognize they are being
controlled.
The pigs create an elite society by using their superior knowledge to take advantage of the lower
animals. One example of the pigs creating an elite society is when they announce they can read
and write. The pigs reveal this to the lower animals by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of the lower animals allowing the creation of the elite society to occur is when the
pigs eat all of the milk and apples, and are not sharing the food equally between the animals.
Squealer explains to the lower animals why the pigs deserve the milks and apples by saying,
Milk and apples...contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig... [because]
the whole management... of this farm depends on us... [and] it is for your sake that we drink
that milk and apples (23). The lower animals did not rebel against this idea because they agree
that the pigs need to be healthy to run the farm. Squealer also uses fear to control the animals.
He mentions to the lower animals, if [the] pigs failed in [their] duty... Jones would come back
(23). The animals believe Squealer s statement and certainly do not want Jones to return so they
do not rebel. Another example of the lower animals allowing the creation of the society to
happen is when Napoleon executes some of the lower animals. After the execution the thoughts
of Clover are, There was no thought of rebellion or disobedience in [Clover s] mind. She knew
that even as things were they were far better off than they had been in the days of Jones (58 59).
The comparison of Napoleon and Jones makes Clover have faith in Napoleon instead of anger,
which allows the pigs to continue their elite

Metcalfe County is chiefly an agricultural one. The main crop is tobacco and there is considerable
beef and dairy cattle production here.
The population of Edmonton is variously put at between 800 and 1,100, depending upon whether
you accept the U.S. Census or local Chamber of Commerce contentions. Almost all are of Protestant
persuasions and most are good Christians, except some ten or twenty of the heathenish sort, about
which there is much doubt.
I am certain that there are groups here in Edmonton, Kentucky, who will very much want to
maintain communication with the Round Table in Edmonton in Middlesex.

Essay Of Eating Customs
Eating customs traditions in Great Britain
The usual meals in Great Britain are breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner; or in simplier homes,
breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. Breakfast is generally a bigger meal than you can have it on the
Continent, though some English people like a continental breakfast of rolls and butter and coffee.
But the usual breakfast is porridge or Corn Flakes with milk or cream and sugar, becon and eggs,
marmalade with butter toast, and tea or coffee. For a change you can have a boiled egg, cold ham,
or perhaps fish. Lunch is usually served between twelve and one o clock. The businessman in
London usually finds it impossible to come home for lunch, and so he goes to a cafГ© or to a

It is clearly that beverage sales are not only an important part of the sales mix of hospitality
establishments but also more profitable than food sales. Coffee is one of the most popular
beverages of the world. It is made from berries grown in tropical climates and shipped to the
country green that is unroasted. The berries produced vary in composition and the treatment
after picking. For this reason, Mocha, Java, Arabica and South American coffees are quite
distinct from each other. There are three main methods of preparing coffee boiling, percolating
and drip method. The coffee should not stand long before serving. Tea is made from the leaves
of tea bush which is indigenous to the Orient. Black tea is made from leaves which are
fermented before drying. Green tea is not fermented; the leaves are steamed and dried. There are
two main ways of serving tea: English tea is served in cups and with milk or cream; Russian tea
is served in glasses with a slice of lemon. Cocoa and chocolate. As beverages made from them are
generally made with milk, they are much more nutritious than the other beverages. Cocoa and
chocolate are made from beans or seeds of trees which grow in tropical countries. Also drinks can
be classified into soft drinks which contain no spirits (such as lemonades, Pepsi, Coke, etc.) and
strong ones, they contain some part of alcohol (such as whisky, gin, wine, liquor, beer). Tea in

Risk And Risk Of Risk
The risk score represents the criticality order of the risks, while the risk priority number is used
for assessing risk in a project and generally do not have a meaning on their own. In this case
some of the numbers are identical for the risk scores and priority numbers; however this is not
always the case. The reason for the duplicate numbers happens when the value is estimated to be
smaller and the impact is bigger in one riskthan the other with a smaller impact. As you can see
from the above charts it is critical for New Concepts to concentrate first and foremost on the
quality and labor risks, followed swiftly by the financial risk.
Risk Planning and Analysis Risk Planning and Analysis is used to develop risk responses which
are options and actions to mitigate and reduce project threats. Risk responses delegate the owner
for each potential risk and are agreed upon by all parties involved. There are four ways risk can be
managed which are transferring risk, avoiding risk, reducing or mitigating risk and accepting risk.
Transferring Risk: Risk can be transferred from an organization to its contractor and vice versa.
This should be agreed upon prior to the project starting and detailed in the contract. All risk may
not be transferred, sometimes only partial risk can be transferred. New Concepts may consider
transferring risk to a contractor helping with coding when they do not believe they will not meet
deadlines on a new system.
Avoid Risk: Risk can be avoided

Friedrich Nietzsche s Philosophy And Ethics
The Antichrist
Samuel Edwards
Central Christian College
May 6, 2016 Abstract: Friedrich Nietzsche devoted his life to the study of philosophy and ethics. In
particular to topics regarding Christianity and Atheism. A majority of his writings are against
Christianity and The Antichrist is no different. The following paper will look into what Nietzsche
wrote in The Antichrist and explore the ethical principles that he proposes and dismisses in this
writing. The Antichrist is a collection of Friedrich Nietzsche writings that were put together by his
niece shortly after his death. She wrote an opening preface before his collection of writings that
explain her desire for publishing the writings and defending his standpoint. In her opening
statements, which were approximately 20% of the entire book, she made some claims about
Nietzsche, his writings, and his beliefs. She states that Nietzsche ...intended to attack Christianity
headlong and with all arms... and that All his wrath... was reserved for St. Paul and his like, who
perverted the Beatitudes which Christ intended for the lowly only. Despite saying this Nietzsche
staid that he never set out to destroy Christianity all together, so that the lowly and unintelligent
would still have an outlet. But to destroy Christianity for the intellectuals and the scholars. Oddly
enough he set out to ...make Paul the villain, and Jesus a bystander. ( After the introduction by his
niece a collection of 62 essays are arranged

What Are The Four Basic Techniques In Physical Assessment
16. Demonstrate the four basic techniques utilized in the pysical assessment. The four basic
techniques utilized in the physical assessment are inspection, palpation, percussion, and
ascultation. To begin the techniques I will first wash my hands, and then make the patient as
comfortable as possible. Then I will start by inspecting the patient. I will observe the patient s
state of consciousness by having the patient repeat their name and date of birth along with telling
me where they are at, and what the date is. If there are any abnoramalities their, I will document
them. Next I will observe their overall state of health, look for any signs of physical distress. I will
then look for any lacerations, bruises, visible lumps or bumps, or things such as moles and birth
marks, and body symmetry. Again, if anything is abnormal I will document my findings. Also when
inspecting the patient I will document any oders and note their nature and source. If everything is

Before administering any medication to a patient I check to see if I have the right patient by
checking their bracelet, and have them repeat their name and date of birth, then compare the name

will check the medication order, and if something is unclear then I would ask the prescribing
physician to clarify the order. The next thing I must do is triple check the medication label. The
triple check involves checking the label when you retreive the medication, prepare the medication,
and before administering the medication. A side note to include here is that a nurse must never

The Book Of Mormon Analysis
There is a power that lies in each of us, a flame that burns so bright. Yet, it is only unlocked as we
search, ponder and pray. But about what you may ask. The answer may come as a surprise to
some, or may hit home for others. We each must Search, Ponder and Pray about The Book of
Mormon , about The Prophet Joseph Smith, about the truthfulness of the Church of JesusChrist of
Latter Day Saints.
As we come to gain a testimony we can fuel that fire that burns with in our hearts. We can
increase our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive that comfort and direction, that we all are
so desperate for. We can come to know for a surety that these things are true and really will bless
our lives.
This week I was reminded of this simple truth. As my companion and I walked a long the road,

I didn t care for the typical Hello, we are Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints , would you like to hear a message. Honestly that s a good way to get a door slammed
in your face. People are realistic, and think just like anyone else. They want to know only what s
good for them or what can help them. Sometimes it can be seen as a selfish attitude. So borrowing
a idea from Theodore Roosevelt and applying this phrase, People don t care how much you know
until they know how much you care .
I sought to get to know this man, and I really was genuine about it. People don t like flattery, it s
cheap and it never works. In an honest person to person conversation I did just that. Jacob, told
me about his life, about his job, about his family and about what he was even doing on the car that
he stopped working on to talk to me. I felt the love of God for this man, I truly did. As he talked

Growing Scourge
To begin with, the article, Fighting The Growing Scourge by Mina Bloom is reporting on the
growing number of complaints about rats in Chicago. The new method of choice that seems to be
cheaper and less harmful to other animals is using dry ice. Dry ice is less damaging and more
effective than poison. Within the article the reporter uses official sources from media reports and
USA today and spokespeople.
In addition, the article Disturbing Uptick in Lincoln Park Demand or More officers by Mina
Bloom expresses the concern for the crime rate in Lincoln Park. Due to the increase in crime rate
after a woman was robbed and suffered a head injury has brought the idea and concerns of wanting
more police men in Lincoln Park. She is getting her sources from the spokesperson and witnesses
from the incident. The voice missing within the article is the victim herself.

The sources she uses within the articles, are sources that are within the norm. She did not step out
of her social barrier to receive any of the sources. In the sources, they were missing regular
citizens. Since, she is reporting on a certain area it would be more personable to add regular
citizens within some of the articles.
In the article about the rats it talked about how construction and the mild winter caused reasons for
the rat surge. I would expand on this section of the article and go into more detail as to why. Also,
I would get in contact with a construction worker who has experienced rats and their views.
I would suggest Mina Bloom expanding on the article about the Geja s CafГ© opening and
becoming more romantic. In the article is talked about how it has been open for 51 years and they
are finally opening an outdoor area. I would expand the story after it opens and talk about the news
of it being the most romantic date spot with the outdoor patio being

The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants
The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention
s (CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using
antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages
12 and older have used an antidepressantdrug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in
the media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants
were the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower
cholesterol. With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question
if they are just expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that.
Treating depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them.
Each person responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing
everyone does not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to
moderate symptoms, and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely
effective come with some very serious side effects. At the very least, it s fair to say that medication
alone usually is not enough. Treating depression requires therapy and lifestyle changes not
medication. Most mental health experts agree that when depression is severe enough to impact
your ability to function in life, antidepressants are

Lizzie Borden Guilty Essay
Lizzie Borden Murder trial
The borden house,Lizzie, her parents, the axe,Lizzie Borden is guilty. This is the story of a young
woman named Lizzie Borden who is accused of whether she murdered her parents or not.In this
essay I will give my evidence and reasoning on to why I think Lizzie is guilty. In today s
perspective people would argue that Lizzie is guilty, but back in the old times when the murder
happened people would have a stronger belief to that she is not guilty.I think that Lizzie Borden is
guilty.
One vital reason why Lizzie Borden is guilty is because she burned her dress. In the article The
trial of Lizzie Borden:an accountant it states that Lizzie was caught by her sister Emma Borden
burning the dress that she wore on the day of the murder, when her sister asked what she was
doing she replied with I am going to burn this old thing up,it is covered with paint.Lizzie borden
burning her dress that she wore on the day of the murder makes her guilty in my opinion. This
evidence suggests Lizzie s guilt because she wore that same dress on the day of the murder. She
simply could of threw it out or put it away, there was point of burning it up because there were
other reason to solve her problem.Due to the fact of Lizzie burning the dress backs up her guilt. ...

The Bobo Doll Experiment Importance In Psychology
Bobo Doll Experiment Importance in Psychology The Bobo Doll Experiment was an experiment
conducted by Albert Bandura and his colleagues. The experiment was to overall find results to the
question, do children act aggressively if they grow up watching aggressive behavior? The
conductor gathered participants for the study and got results showing that yes, children do tend to
act more aggressive when they grow up around adults acting in an aggressive behavior. Bandura
believed that children get their behaviors by the behaviors they watch, and after he performed his
study, his results were believed to be supportive of his hypothesis.
What is this Study?
The Bobo Doll Experiment reveals how children imitate TV violence and the behavior of others.
Albert Bandura was the man who conducted the study of The Bobo Doll Experiment. He
studied children s behavior in the years of 1961 and 1963. He decided to watch the children s
behaviors after he watched an adult act hostile towards a Bobo doll. A Bobo doll is a toy that gets
up by itself after it is knocked down.
Why did Bandura Study this?
Bandura and his colleagues, the scientists of the Bobo Doll Experiment, believed there was some
reason children learned the behaviors that was important to them in their lives. Bandura anticipated
that children that viewed aggressive models would behave in a similar fashion as the model and
those that had non aggressive models would behave in the same fashion and not have aggressive
actions (Green, 1961). The purpose of this experiment was to demonstrate one of the ways children
learned aggression. The researchers were hoping to find the proof that children learned aggression
from viewing it by another person.
What did the Researchers do Who was Involved?
The researches of this experiment used a lab experiment. They gathered the participants that fit
their needs for the information needed for the experiment to get accurate results. The researchers
accumulated 36 boys and 36 girls, ages 37 to 69 months. There were also two adults involved,
male and female. Twenty four of the children had an aggressive male and female role model.

The Jefferson County Egan Murders are nothing of surprise to anyone. On the cold dark night of

Technology has such advanced at a pace seemingly impossible since that night of New Year s

technology would be a very big asset to solving

The Standards Of Water Jump
Water Jump. I remember back 20 years ago when the ISO 900x standards were pushed heavily in
Eastern Europe s manufacturing economy, it was like reminiscent of a bank robbery during
daylight. Consulting certification companies were making tons of money and in return were
giving their clients a right to put label called ISO 900x. Around that time I was working as a
mechanical designer in a leading manufacturing factory and one day I witnessed an extremely
interesting conversation between part time 75 year young engineer and the head of the ISO
certification group that was converting our company into ISO 9000 certified. I happened during
informal 15 min break, when out of the blue, the engineer simply confronted the entire
certification process and called that we have been conned. He challenged the certification group
to present a standard that we may need and do not have. On every given example, he was able
quickly to point existing standard and the published reference as in a number of cases he went
back as 60 years to find the needed reference. In the end, he was able to build a strong case.
Eventually, the head of the certification group concluded: You know it, I know it, the rest of
people do not. Let s keep it that way . Fast forward 10 years to the agile revolution, when I
remembered how ecstatic people were in the software community. I remember many authors had
sold their software books on agile. When I checked, the majority of them had published just a few

Disability Reflection Paper
As kids, we are all taught the same basic lessons, don t stare, don t steal, and don t cheat. Looking
back at how I saw people with disabilities being judged, treated, and how people made fun of
them always scared me. Many questions popped in my head, such as, what if that was me? How
could I handle that? When I was in seventh grade, my worst nightmare came true. I was diagnosed
with Complex Regional PainSyndrome (CRPS), which means my nerves were sending impulses to
my brain, saying I m in some of the worst pain, worse than childbirth, when in turn there was
nothing causing pain or an injury to my left foot. Being diagnosed with a disabilityreally affected
how I saw myself and how I imagined other people saw me. It all began with a simple broken foot.
This was my first broken bone, I got the green cast, signatures, and the special treatment. Once my
six weeks were up, I was glad to be walking and able to play volleyball again. That very same day, I
fell in a small hole hole and broke the same foot, in the same spot. They proceeded to put an air
cast on my foot. Once again, i was happy to be back after six more weeks, but once I was out of
the cast and swore to never break my foot again, I was faced with an obstacle. I was experiencing
some of the worst pain in my life. After about one week of this pain, my mother finally agreed to

being said, there is so much ground to cover and able bodied people often have priority over
people with disabilities because they are the main consumer. However, this project will take that
into consideration and the main focus will be flipped upside down to benefit people with
disabilities. Specifically, people in wheelchairs are often hindered with the inconvenience of not
being able to travel efficiently, or with the same amount of freedom as able bodied citizens. The
objective of this project will be to innovate a vehicle for people in wheelchairs, giving them the
same freedom as the everyday citizen. Before doing this, it is important ... Show more content on

Current designs of the car require persons who are wheelchair bound to require assistance when
embarking and disembarking the vehicle, including needing aid in storing the wheelchair or any
other aid devices. This new proposed design will have its focus on ensuring that the user of the
vehicle has complete independence with their own vehicle with the wheelchair being fully
integrated into the interior design of the car while maintaining the overall functionality of the
vehicle. This follows in line with the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with
Disabilities Act which aims to identify, remove and prevent barriers for people with disabilities in
that with this vehicle the barrier of being restricted to aided transportation will be removed and
replaced with a viable alternative for the wheelchair bound. With this project, we hope to be able to

Youth Gang Culture
Over the decade an emergence of the youth gang culture has seen its fair share of publicised
scrutiny. With the increase in violent youth gangs becoming more of a reality the UK governments

Mr. Chandler
Negotiation strategies by Date of Submission Negotiation strategies Introduction Dealing with a
stalemate or conflict can at times be very challenging to two or more groups that are in conflict.
Negotiation happens to be one of the most utilised conflict resolution strategies. The success of
the negotiation process would rely on the strategies employed in the process and responses by the
parties in conflict. Lewicki, Hiam and Olander (2007, pp. 24 28) have provided great insights on
negotiation and how to make the process effective. In their article, Selecting a Strategy, the three
submit that If you are proactive about strategic choice, you are much more likely to get what you

Making an allusion of the negotiation process being just like the buying and selling process, the
buyer and the seller would have different roles to play. Haydon argues that the buyer is in a good
position to sell their product in that he or she can make her case right in describing the product.
Whereas the opponent may be given a chance to give their option, they would be limited with
what has already been given by the proactive party. The proactive party would always set the tone
and thereby have greater say in the negotiation, regardless of the equal opportunities given to both
parties (Jun Geol Ouk, 2007, pp. 606 615). Whereas equality of the parties is granted, this may not
play in terms of the discussions on the main tenets of the conflict and possible resolutions. The
intention of parties in the negotiation table is usually to get favourable resolutions based on their
situation or the conflict. Gregorio Billikopf (2001) argues that Interest based (or integrative)
negotiation is built upon the principle of meeting the needs of all the individuals or stakeholders .
However, the needs of all the stakeholders would only be known on the negotiating table and not on
assumptions or general knowledge of the parties involved. This cements the fact that proactive
player in the negotiation to have an added advantage over the .opponent using the no strategy
approach. For the proactive player, the

Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel Essay
The excerpt from Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel exposes the uncanny scenario of
Rosaura and Pedro s wedding, and the sudden nostalgia everyone is revealing. The connection of
food, and the role of the Mexican revolution is depicted in this excerpt, and the use of intense
emotion and sorrow is used to create a dismal atmosphere filled with loss and loneliness. Esquivel
uses Tita s culinary skills and her deep affection towards Pedro as a technique to emphasize the
effect it has on the secondary characters in the novel. The overall depiction of the novel is effected
by Tita s culinary skills; each month represents the emotionshe is currently feeling. This particular
excerpt illustrates the grief of Tita towards the marriage... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also viewed as a pathetic fallacy, where Tita s mood and eternal sadness towards the
marriage of Rosaura to the love of her life, Pedro, affects the guests in the wedding who were
wailing over a lost love. (39) The role of food and culinary skills is evident in the excerpt and
can be connected to the overall theme of the novel. Esquivel relates food to the mood Tita is
currently facing. Tita s sorrow and hopeless love affects her cooking techniques and creates a
cake that ironically is supposed to represent and symbolize love and the devotion of marriage,
instead it contradicts the traditional aspects of marriage and does the complete opposite; it
creates a turmoil atmosphere. Due to Tita s bond with cooking, her emotions plays a significant
role in her dishes, and also affects the people around her; whatever mood Tita is feeling, people
feel it too. The weeping (39) of the guests at the wedding is triggered by the piece of cake they
ate, Tita s tear symbolizes dreadfulness and failure to be with her true love. In a way, Tita
indirectly seeks vengeance against her mother, Mama Elena, and Rosaura, for agreeing to the
wedding. Tita s tears where a way of releasing the gloominess from her soul, and allowing it to
flow to other people s hearts. Rosaura states that Tita did add something to the cake. (40) Rosaura s

Argumentative Essay On Prejudice And Prejudice
Social conformity can be toxic, it often leads to the epidemic that is prejudice. To give a better idea
of what prejudice means, Judice translates to judge in Latin, therefore the term prejudice literally
translates into pre judgment . There are innumerable forms of negative preconceived notions that
exist in our world today, the biggest one being racism, which often is a stem of having anti
immigration views. Immigration prejudiceis not unknown to any person who lives in America and
has eyes and ears to know it exists, but it s important to know that prejudice is not innate, it is
learned, and as long as we allow our society to practice xenophobia among present and future
generations we will never be free of it. According to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prejudice doesn t discriminate, it lives in all runs of people: Whites, African Americans, Asians,
Hispanics, Republicans, Democrats, men, women, young, old you name it. In a perfect world this
level of hatred wouldn t be the norm, but it is. It is so widespread that there s tangible evidence that
shows even Hispanics (immigrant or not) have negative affiliations with immigrants. How can this
be when Hispanics take the cake for making up the largest portion of new comers. Interestingly
enough, research done by the Pew Research Center concludes that the more Hispanics have become
accustomed to nativism in American culture, the more likely they are to feel negatively toward the
matter. This sense of superiority is quite frankly sickening, to know that even counterparts of
immigrants could fall suspect of discrimination goes to show its daunting power. What s more, the
false notion that immigrants are purely responsible for the uprooting of crime, scarce resources,
drugs, disease, and more have been fed to natives by the media and those in powerful positions to
continue defacing the image of immigration as there s no solid evidence to justify being anti

Abolition Essay
Abolition
A Stronger Resistance The abolitionist movement in the United States sought to eradicate slavery
using a wide range of tactics and organizations. The antislavery movement mobilized many African
Americans and some whites who sought to end the institution of slavery. Although both black and
white abolitionists often worked together, the relationship between them was intricate. The struggle
for black abolitionists was much more personal because they wanted to end slavery and also
wanted to gain equal rights for blacks. However, many white abolitionists only sought to end slavery
and did not fight for equality for blacks. From these exceedingly contrasting perspectives and the
continuation of slavery, the sentiment of many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More militant tactics, such as uprising and revolts, were gaining support in the nineteenth century.
Nat Turner was a black abolitionist that supported the use of aggressive and forceful tactics. In
1831, in Virginia, he led an insurrection and more than 55 white people were killed. It was very
bloody and violent and angered many whites from its brutality (Nash, 275). Yet, many blacks felt
that the only thing that would get a response was an uprising and taking drastic measures. In
Christiana, Pennsylvania, the Fugitive Slave Laws were passed. These laws stated that whites
could recapture their runaway slaves. Blacks were outraged by the passing of these laws and
rioted in response to this (Roots of Resistance). This demonstrated how blacks would react in
manners that were more forceful and these tactics were used by a number of other abolitionists,
however, many still used different approaches to battling slavery. Many abolitionists used
writing to end slavery. In 1827, the first black newspaper, Freedom s Journal, was created by
Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm (Notes, 11/29/00). This paper spread ideas of freedom
and equality and gave hope to the black readers. David Walker, the son of a free black mother
and a slave father, pushed the abolitionist movement into militancy in 1829 when he published
David Walker s Appeal. His work inspired blacks to organize and urged slaves to rise up against
their masters and take their freedom by force (Notes, 11/27/00).

International work opportunities are increasing as the borders of the U.S. economy expand to

How can vocational education, the educational program area that is specifically designed to
prepare students for work, infuse international concepts into vocational education programs so that
the youth of today are prepared for the global workplace? Ostheimer (1995) offers several
suggestions:
1. Promote global awareness.
2. Internationalize the curriculum.
3. Adopt instructional practices that incorporate international dimensions.
4. Provide resources that address international/global dimensions of business.
5. Provide faculty development programs in international business.
Global Awareness
With the growth of multinational corporations and increased trade among nations, workers need to
understand global conditions, development, and trends. Such issues as population growth, wealth
distribution, environmental concerns, diseases, and political and social problems as well as
cultural issues such as religious beliefs, customs, and family structure have implications for a
country s business activity and practices. The study of such issues will enhance students abilities to
engage in job related problem solving and decision making in ways that reflect knowledge of and
respect for other cultures (McLaughlin 1996).
Classroom study, even when it includes international content, cannot provide the extent of global
awareness that one

A Growth in National Power
The Spanish American War Overtime, several historical events have shaped our country into the

However, America intervened for three years after they were given freedom. This means that
America was involved in Cuba s government until Cuba added the Platt Amendment in 1901 to their

explain, Cuba was not permitted to give territory to any other nation, except for America in any
circumstance. Also, Cuba had limited, restricted power in foreign relations and treaties. This was to

Database Normalization Is Important For The Future....
Introduction
Data is important to the company as it assists with decision making, competitive advantage, or
support. Senior management has to rely on historical information to observe trends in order to
formulate a plan to execute improvements for the future. Company performance information can be
leveraged to compare among competitors in the industry to capture an idea of where the
organization stands. Data can be used as support to confirm whether previously executed plans are
effectively working or not against standards or metrics.
With importance of data, it would benefit business employees preserve information by improving
the database design that stores it all. While information is being stored sufficiently as is, database
design can be processed through normalization to improve its organization.
Purpose
As a commonly exercised technique for the analysis of relational databases, normalization creates
set of relational tables and minimize data redundancy that preserve consistency (Bahmani et al,
2010). The output design then facilitates correct insertion, deletion, and modification to the data.
According to Wang et al (2010), database normalizationis an important process in systems analysis
and design. The objective of normalization is to allow the storage of data without unnecessary
redundancy and thereby eliminate data inconsistency so that users can maintain and retrieve data
without difficulty. A normalized database eliminates anomalies in updating, inserting,

The art and life aspects of the interwar avant garde are an advanced socially trivial form of art
which to a bigger extent is symbolic of the visual setting of the human community. It is the art of
expressionism in any artistic work which greatly influence its adaptation by the target audience. It
has been evidently claimed that most artistic works of the early twentieth century have had a
number of varied themes all encompassing the political environment of the time. The interwar avant

It is to be noted and comprehended that such aspects need not to be typically true but should in their
presentation give the impression of reality or highly probability. It was such advanced
expressionism that greatly influenced military professionals while at war during the early twentieth
century.
It is also noted that avant grades gesture generally carries with it the notion of judgment on
actions that are considered shocking. Many modern society artworks are rarely acted without
incidences of bloody conflicts. This is particularly evidently witnessed in the warfare framed
artworks. It is the art of expressing irresponsibility and might I add chaotic revolution within a
movie or a working medium that makes the piece of art a truly unique masterpiece. It has
evidently been noted that the adaptability of any piece of art is highly reliant on the element of
visual modernity rather than an expression of the ultimate reality in the society. It is by involving
exaggerative acts in a movie that assimilation of the intended social aspect is easily realized.
Artworks must be appealing to the eyes of the audience. It is only from the visual appearance of the
artwork that determines whether or not the audience will give it a chance or not. The suspense
brought in art by the use of choking notion of judgment is what keeps the audience watching to find

Except for the machinery industry, there was little difference regarding willingness to transfer

Agreement, as Professor Gervais indicates. A number of supporters of the local working
requirement argue if the patentee would be entitled to a territorial legal monopoly, she should to
contribute to the development of the industry in that territory as an act of reciprocity. Nonetheless,
K. McCabe explains the reason why defining the working requirement would be a burden for
transnational companies. If comprehensively every country requires local working as one of the
requirements for granting a patent, then exportation to a new foreign market means to establish a
manufacturing facility in the country. Defining local working as a requirement therefore constitutes
an unnecessary burden for a foreign patentee to build manufacturing facilities in all the signatories
of TRIPS who have legislation as such. For this reason, the grounds for granting compulsory
licenses should be limited to countries with a lower standard of technology

It was first thought they were trapped due to a rockslide, but was later revealed that a rival crew
of illegal miners had trapped them in there. In the beginning reports first suggested that there were

5% of its potential annual mineral production to illegal mining, the los production estimates at $2

illegal miners make up of immigrants from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho or other central

effects their emissions cause to the environment. According to many scientific investigations our
fossil fuel resources (oil, coaland gas) are running out, furthermore their emissions pollute the
environment and contribute to the greenhouse effect. Undoubtedly, these situations as well as the
fact that the demand for electricity is increasing more and more globally made us thinking about

Despite the fact that things seemed to run smoothly, in 1973 when the oil crisis began, nuclear
industry had to face environmental issues which made the construction of power stations such an
expensive deal. Nowadays, nuclear power seem to be more promising than ever due to the
increased demand of electricity. After many investigations experts have determined that there are
two ways that nuclear power can be utilized. The first way is called Nuclear Fission , this way is
mainly used in power stations, uranium and other heavy elements are used as fuels. By its
reaction heavy cores separate into medium sized cores, where energy is released. The following
figure shows how much electricity was generated in 6 countries by nuclear power in 2007.
The second way that nuclear power can utilizes is called Nuclear Fusion , this way needs more
investigation in order to be applied in power stations. Hydrogen and other light elements would be
used as fuels and from its reaction fuse light cores are converted into medium sized cores, where
energy is released. Nuclear Fusion s 2 most promising reactions are the DT reaction, which fuses
deuterium (heavy isotope of hydrogen) with tritium (heavier isotope of hydrogen), making Helium

Analysis Of The Crystal Gems Essay
Steven Universe is a TV show on Cartoon Network that centers around a fourteen year old
human gem alien hybrid named Steven and his three gem alien guardians who seek to protect
the earth from their home planet. His mother, Rose Quartz, led a rebellion group called The
Crystal Gems against her home planet to thwart their plans to colonize the Earth. Years later, she
died giving birth to Steven. For a children s show, it has covered many topics, including defying
the gender norm, mental illness, and abusive relationships. The relationship of two characters,
Jasper and Lapis Lazuli, is a sensitive topic of discussion among fans and critics alike. There are
three points of view on the subject. They include that Jasper is the abuser, Lapis is the abuser,
and the relationship was mutually abusive. When considering the characteristics that make a
relationship abusive, and how the relationship is being portrayed in the show, all the evidence
points to Lapis Lazuli as the abuser. On the show, the alien gems practice fusion, which is a
process of combining the forms of two (or more) gems to form a single entity. Fusions are usually
used for combative purposes, but can symbolize many types of relationships ranging to healthy
and unhealthy. While Jasper and Lapis Lazuli s relationship was neither romantic or platonic, their
fusion is heavily implied to represent an abusive relationship. Jasper is a muscular gem soldier
who was born on Earth but fought on her home world s side of

The Use Of Moral Codes In The Beatitudes
Christianity, too, has a set of moral codes that its members are called to follow. The main Christian
moral code is known as the Beatitudes, spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. They
acknowledge a reward for the poor, mourning, meek, hungry, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers,
persecuted, and insulted (Barnes, 2017). In addition to the Beatitudes, there are two greatest
commandments offered as a moral guide for Christians. These two commandments are stated in the
Gospel of Matthew: Love the Lord your Godwith all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as
yourself (Matthew 22: 37 29). In addition to the standard moral codes, Christians also follow the
Ten Commandments, instructions inscribed on stone given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The
Ten Commandments, though, are aimed at combatting sin, forcing Christians to understand that sin
can be committed in more than one way: in thought, word, and deed (Barnes, 2017). Like Hinduism
, moral codes make known the responsibility that followers have to both the deity and to others. In
Christianity, moral codes are made known more obviously than in Hinduism, and are aimed at all
Christians, not based on circumstances. Every Christian is called to obey this responsibility
regardless of wealth, occupation, age, etc. Both Hindus and Christians are responsible for
serving their God or god(s) and humanity through expression of these codes and
commandments. They each obey this responsibility in various ways. Hinduism contains a wide
variety of practices consisting of: meditation, yoga, devotions, and pilgrimages (Molloy, 92).
Meditation is an integral part of the Hindu religion, it is known as when the mind is focused
only on the object of concentration (Molloy, 92). A specific way in which this can be performed
is through yoga. The Hindu religion not only practices the physical yoga that is most prevalent
in the Western world, but they practice several. The most well known yoga exercises are: Bhakti
yoga, Raja yoga, Hatha yoga, and Kundalini yoga (Molloy, 92 93). Bhakti yoga is recognized as
devotion yoga, Raja yoga is best known as meditation yoga, Hatha yoga

Uptown Brewery Case Study
Uptown Brewery is to be upheld by several state regulations. To qualify as a brewery, you must
complete and submit to TTB (Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) the appropriate forms along with
any other required documentation. TTB will then complete the screening and processing within
two months of receipt of a completed Brewers Notice packet. If Uptown Brewery was to engage
in business of importing alcoholic beverages overseas, they must apply to the Federal Alcohol
Administration Act (FAA Act). According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, To
obtain an Importer s Permit, the importer must file an Application for Basic Permit under the
Federal Alcohol Administration Act on TTB F 5100.24 (PDF) with TTB s National Revenue
Center (NRC). The process may be done electronically, through Permits Online, or by submitting a

It is important for Breweries to develop employee policies and procedures that communicate
appropriate expectations to the employees. In the state of North Carolina, breweries must follow
the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, The Americans Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in
Employment Act, and Family and Medical Leave Act. Claiming the right insurance is a risk that
our brewery must face. Failing to remit correct taxes to correct agencies at the right times could
turn into fines or audits. According to Chris Crowell from Craft Brewing Business, OSHA is
becoming more aggressive in setting and enforcing new safety and health requirements. And not
to say that you, craft brewer, are negligent or running an unhealthy operation, but everyone needs
a refresher from time to time especially with so many breweries being new businesses. For over
half a decade, OSHA has significantly increased its focus on enforcing workplace health
requirements and safety of employers. OSHA is expected to better its penalty limits by 80 percent

I Don t Remember Much Before It All Went Dark
I don t remember much before it all went dark. I think I was in a bus. Something like a crash and
lots of screaming, a feeling of weightlessness. Then nothing. Now I m in this beeping place. I can
t tell where I am because I can t open my eyes. It s kind of funny. I can definitely feel that there s
something heavy and warm on top of me, and can hear the beep, beep, beep, next to me. But I
can t talk or move. Now and then people come and examine my head and I try to talk to them. I
can t seem to open my eyes. Can someone tell me what happened to them? I try to say but I can t
seem to get my vocal chords to respond. I guess I ll have to wait until next time. But these
people, they know what they re doing. They always come at the same time and poke in the same
place. With their hands and sometimes with something sharp. They don t say a lot. They come,
prod, and leave with a sigh. It s rather strange. Someone opened my eye today and shone a light
in it. It was bright and I couldn t tell them to stop. Also, did you know that your eye can stick to
your eyelid if you don t open them for long enough. I do now. It didn t hurt though, just felt good
to unstick it. Someone s been holding my hand and talking to me. It really helps pass the
boredom since I can t move or talk. I think it s my mom. She s about 11 chapters into Harry Potter
The Sorcerer s Stone . I would tell her that I ve already read it but... I still can t seem to get my
vocal chords to work. She holds my hand and sits

The Power Of Nacirema By Suliman
Nacirema would best be ruled by Suliman for many different reasons. In SulimanВґs early years he
was schooled by a great teacher in many different topics. He started to govern many provinces
starting at 15. To start off any civilization you need a good set of rules or laws and Suliman is just
the person for that. He was even represented as one of the best lawmakers in history by the United
Statesgovernment. He made many laws that combated corruption something you don t want in a
country. Just showing that he is loyal and will be best fit to use the power of Nacirema. He could
have joined the corruption but instead he stopped it using his own power. When he first took the
throne his first couple of changes were to release over 1,500 prisoners

Taking a Look at Prejudice and Ignorance
Prejudice and ignorance are two of the most prominent ills of our society today. The way gay
soldiers are treated today is no exception. Many have been forced to resign due to their sexual
orientation, which has little or nothing to do with their ability as soldiers. Most members of our
armed forces have no experience in relating to gaypeople, resulting in a fear that has caused pain
to many people, both homosexual and heterosexual. In 2010, Obama put this country into place
when he signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 . Even though this was signed, it
is still a very heated debate within the government and this society. People should not have to
worry about being gay when they sign up to protect their country. They also should not be
judged on the basis of their sexuality. When Obama signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal
Act of 2010 , it got rid of the original Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act that was signed by President
Clinton in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act , was not working out as planned. Instead of
helping the gay community, it made things a lot worse. In an article written by Lincoln Caplan,
he states, Investigators routinely ask soldiers to name other marines rumored to be gay and
threaten them if they don t confess to homosexual acts. (Caplan n. pag). Sgt. Robert S. Nadel, a
marine in the military, was once court martialled for allegedly doing homosexual acts. For Nadel
and many other soldiers like him, the real policy was more like

John Stuart Mill s Philosophy of Happiness Essay
John Stuart Mill s Philosophy of Happiness
Along with other noted philosophers, John Stuart Mill developed the nineteenth century philosophy
known as Utilitarianism the contention that man should judge everything in life based upon its
ability to promote the greatest individual happiness. While Bentham, in particular, is acknowledged
as the philosophy s founder, it was Mill who justified the axiom through reason. He maintained that
because human beings are endowed with the ability for conscious thought, they are not merely
satisfied with physical pleasures; humans strive to achieve pleasures of the mind as well. Once
man has ascended to this high intellectual level, he desires to stay there, never descending to the
lower level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Utilitarianism, Mill noted, utility includes not solely the pursuit of happiness, but the prevention
or mitigation of unhappiness (Mill 12).
The pursuit of pleasure has also been condemned by critics as being little more than the
promotion of one s own interests, with no regard to the happiness of others. Mill disputes this as
being narrow minded, clarifying that the pleasure principle which forms the foundation for
utilitarianism, what is right in conduct, is not the agent s own happiness, but that of all
concerned (Mill 16). With this acknowledgment, however, comes the criticism that people cannot
possibly be motivated by something as satisfying the collective good of society. Mill countered
this by pointing out, The utilitarian morality does recognize in human beings the power of
sacrificing their own greatest good for the good of others (Mill 16). To the objection that pleasure
is an acceptable end is contrary to Christian principles because it is godless, Mill states, If it be a
true belief that God desires, above all things, the happiness of his creatures, and that this was his
purpose in their creation, utility is not only not a godless doctrine, but more profoundly religious
than any other (Mill 21).
Mill s pleasure principle was disputed by both philosophers and theologians because of its apparent
lack of association to a code of morality. To this, Mill contended that there can

Career Cruising
Through the Career Cruising, the three careers that I explored are Oceanographer, Commercial
Diver, and Environmental Engineer. In order to first understand these careers, I must
understand my learning styles and how it fits into the careers. According to the learning styles
test, I received a 48.57% for auditory, and a 62.86% for both kinesthetic and visual. According to
these results it means that I am primarily a hands on learner as well as visual learner; this means I
am a good fit for jobs that require observation as well as labor, and a poor fit for jobs that require
listening. Because of these results it means I am a good fit for oceanographyand commercial diving.

filter sewage. Some deal with garbage disposal such as landfills, and some can be assigned with
managing toxic or radioactive materials. They also evaluate government or private projects on how
they will affect the surrounding environment, and they advise companies of existing policies that
may interfere with the project development. Environmental engineers also work in flooded areas,
erosion control, and recycling. The minimum degree required is a bachelor s in environmental
science or similar. However, it is generally recommended to obtain a master s. At the entry level,
these engineers start out with an annual salary of $61,200. The median salary is $84,610, and the

Advent Of The Sasanian Period
1 At the advent of the Sasanian period, Opposition between Zoroastrianism, Sasanian official and
patronized religion, and Semitic religions, specifically Christianism, which traditionally rely on
their holy books, compelled the clergies to give up their mere reliance on oral tradition and
commence writing down the sacred book Avesta . This radical change very soon required them to
generate exposition and exegesis, namely, Zand and subsequently commentaries on both Avesta and
Zand which led to the prosperity of religious and juridical and consequently other types of Middle
Persian literature. Furthermore, Compiled Avesta in that time not only contained religious subjects
but also covered philosophy, logic, rhetoric, and even natural sciences such as medicine and
astronomy which shows that everything was interpreted in connection with religion and
consequently required explanatory treatises. Moreover, Sasanian kings exorbitant sponsorship of
Zoroastrianismbrought the priesthood endless political and financial power which enabled them to
sponsor religious schools and consequently promoted composition of religious works more than
before.
2 After the downfall of Sasanian dynasty, Zoroastrianism s deprivation of administrative power, the
threat of religious conversion, the decrease in the number of priesthood applicants and defect in the
body of the Zoroastrian clerical system not only led to the expedition of religious texts copying but
also compelled the prominent priests

For effective coupling, Grob (1977) states that the reactance of the capacitor, XCC should be less
than or equal to 10% of the resistance, R1.
XCC R1; but R1 = 100KΩ
Let XCC = 10KΩ and f = 20Hz (cut off frequency for the HPF)
But XCC = 1 = 10KΩ 2пfCc
Cc = 1 = 1 a = 0.796 x 10 6F 2РїfXCc 2Рї x 20 x 10 x 103
= 0.796ВµF Chosen value of CC = 1ВµF.
C1 also forms a low pass filter with R1.
XC1 10%R1
But R1 = 100KΩ, hence letting XC1 = 10KΩ and using a cut off frequency for the LPF = 20KHz,
XC1 = 1 2РїfCc
C1 = 1 i
2Рї x 20 x 103 x 10 x 103 = 0.796 x 10 9F
The design value chosen for C1 = 1nF.
Similarly,
XC4 0.1R2, R2= 1KΩ, f = 100MHz
XC4 = 0.1KΩ
C1 = 1 i = 15.9 x 10 12F ≈ 16pF
2Рї x 100 x 106 x 0.1 x 103
Design value of C4 = 18pF.

Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so excited because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like banners, streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY. then JINKS. We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piГ±ata.] it was all so fun. After the party while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and Hunter where about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open The Book of Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of tissue paper and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the book and brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that had cased all that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one, my paper said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours are Invisible, shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed, super strong, teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed feeling confused, and powerful if you know what I mean. 6 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Elite Society In George Orwell s Animal Farm In today s world it is quite common for there to be elite societies, whether it is a result from power or intellect. The formation of an elite society is based on how others respond to others actions. In the novel, Animal Farm, the elite society of Animal Farm is the result of the actions of both the pigs and the lower animals as well. The pigs use their superior knowledge to manipulate the lower animals, and the lower animals do not rebel against the pigs or recognize they are being controlled. The pigs create an elite society by using their superior knowledge to take advantage of the lower animals. One example of the pigs creating an elite society is when they announce they can read and write. The pigs reveal this to the lower animals by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of the lower animals allowing the creation of the elite society to occur is when the pigs eat all of the milk and apples, and are not sharing the food equally between the animals. Squealer explains to the lower animals why the pigs deserve the milks and apples by saying, Milk and apples...contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig... [because] the whole management... of this farm depends on us... [and] it is for your sake that we drink that milk and apples (23). The lower animals did not rebel against this idea because they agree that the pigs need to be healthy to run the farm. Squealer also uses fear to control the animals. He mentions to the lower animals, if [the] pigs failed in [their] duty... Jones would come back (23). The animals believe Squealer s statement and certainly do not want Jones to return so they do not rebel. Another example of the lower animals allowing the creation of the society to happen is when Napoleon executes some of the lower animals. After the execution the thoughts of Clover are, There was no thought of rebellion or disobedience in [Clover s] mind. She knew that even as things were they were far better off than they had been in the days of Jones (58 59). Risk And Risk Of Risk The risk score represents the criticality order of the risks, while the risk priority number is used for assessing risk in a project and generally do not have a meaning on their own. In this case some of the numbers are identical for the risk scores and priority numbers; however this is not always the case. The reason for the duplicate numbers happens when the value is estimated to be smaller and the impact is bigger in one riskthan the other with a smaller impact. As you can see from the above charts it is critical for New Concepts to concentrate first and foremost on the quality and labor risks, followed swiftly by the financial risk. Risk Planning and Analysis Risk Planning and Analysis is used to develop risk responses which are options and actions to mitigate and reduce project threats. Risk responses delegate the owner for each potential risk and are agreed upon by all parties involved. There are four ways risk can be managed which are transferring risk, avoiding risk, reducing or mitigating risk and accepting risk. Transferring Risk: Risk can be transferred from an organization to its contractor and vice versa. This should be agreed upon prior to the project starting and detailed in the contract. All risk may not be transferred, sometimes only partial risk can be transferred. Friedrich Nietzsche s Philosophy And Ethics The Antichrist Samuel Edwards Central Christian College May 6, 2016 Abstract: Friedrich Nietzsche devoted his life to the study of philosophy and ethics. In particular to topics regarding Christianity and Atheism. A majority of his writings are against Christianity and The Antichrist is no different. The following paper will look into what Nietzsche wrote in The Antichrist and explore the ethical principles that he proposes and dismisses in this writing. The Antichrist is a collection of Friedrich Nietzsche writings that were put together by his niece shortly after his death. She wrote an opening preface before his collection of writings that explain her desire for publishing the writings and defending his standpoint. In her opening statements, which were approximately 20% of the entire book, she made some claims about Nietzsche, his writings, and his beliefs. She states that Nietzsche ...intended to attack Christianity headlong and with all arms... and that All his wrath... was reserved for St. Paul and his like, who perverted the Beatitudes which Christ intended for the lowly only. Despite saying this Nietzsche staid that he never set out to destroy Christianity all together, so that the lowly and unintelligent would still have an outlet. The answer may come as a surprise to some, or may hit home for others. We each must Search, Ponder and Pray about The Book of Mormon , about The Prophet Joseph Smith, about the truthfulness of the Church of JesusChrist of Latter Day Saints. As we come to gain a testimony we can fuel that fire that burns with in our hearts. We can increase our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive that comfort and direction, that we all are so desperate for. • 13. The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages 12 and older have used an antidepressantdrug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in the media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants were the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower cholesterol. With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question if they are just expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that. Treating depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them. Each person responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing everyone does not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to moderate symptoms, and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely effective come with some very serious side effects. At the very least, it s fair to say that medication alone usually is not enough. Treating depression requires therapy and lifestyle changes not medication. The experiment was to overall find results to the question, do children act aggressively if they grow up watching aggressive behavior? The conductor gathered participants for the study and got results showing that yes, children do tend to act more aggressive when they grow up around adults acting in an aggressive behavior. Bandura believed that children get their behaviors by the behaviors they watch, and after he performed his study, his results were believed to be supportive of his hypothesis. What is this Study? The Bobo Doll Experiment reveals how children imitate TV violence and the behavior of others. Albert Bandura was the man who conducted the study of The Bobo Doll Experiment. He studied children s behavior in the years of 1961 and 1963. He decided to watch the children s behaviors after he watched an adult act hostile towards a Bobo doll. A Bobo doll is a toy that gets up by itself after it is knocked down. Why did Bandura Study this? Bandura and his colleagues, the scientists of the Bobo Doll Experiment, believed there was some reason children learned the behaviors that was important to them in their lives. Bandura anticipated that children that viewed aggressive models would behave in a similar fashion as the model and those that had non aggressive models would behave in the same fashion and not have aggressive actions (Green, 1961). The purpose of this experiment was to demonstrate one of the ways children learned aggression. The researchers were hoping to find the proof that children learned aggression from viewing it by another person. What did the Researchers do Who was Involved? The researches of this experiment used a lab experiment. They gathered the participants that fit their needs for the information needed for the experiment to get accurate results. The researchers accumulated 36 boys and 36 girls, ages 37 to 69 months. There were also two adults involved, male and female. Twenty four of the children had an aggressive male and female role model. I remember back 20 years ago when the ISO 900x standards were pushed heavily in Eastern Europe s manufacturing economy, it was like reminiscent of a bank robbery during daylight. Consulting certification companies were making tons of money and in return were giving their clients a right to put label called ISO 900x. Around that time I was working as a mechanical designer in a leading manufacturing factory and one day I witnessed an extremely interesting conversation between part time 75 year young engineer and the head of the ISO certification group that was converting our company into ISO 9000 certified. I happened during informal 15 min break, when out of the blue, the engineer simply confronted the entire certification process and called that we have been conned. He challenged the certification group to present a standard that we may need and do not have. On every given example, he was able quickly to point existing standard and the published reference as in a number of cases he went back as 60 years to find the needed reference. In the end, he was able to build a strong case. Eventually, the head of the certification group concluded: You know it, I know it, the rest of people do not. Let s keep it that way . Looking back at how I saw people with disabilities being judged, treated, and how people made fun of them always scared me. Many questions popped in my head, such as, what if that was me? How could I handle that? When I was in seventh grade, my worst nightmare came true. I was diagnosed with Complex Regional PainSyndrome (CRPS), which means my nerves were sending impulses to my brain, saying I m in some of the worst pain, worse than childbirth, when in turn there was nothing causing pain or an injury to my left foot. Being diagnosed with a disabilityreally affected how I saw myself and how I imagined other people saw me. It all began with a simple broken foot. This was my first broken bone, I got the green cast, signatures, and the special treatment. Once my six weeks were up, I was glad to be walking and able to play volleyball again. That very same day, I fell in a small hole hole and broke the same foot, in the same spot. They proceeded to put an air cast on my foot. Once again, i was happy to be back after six more weeks, but once I was out of the cast and swore to never break my foot again, I was faced with an obstacle. Lewicki, Hiam and Olander (2007, pp. 24 28) have provided great insights on negotiation and how to make the process effective. Haydon argues that the buyer is in a good position to sell their product in that he or she can make her case right in describing the product. Whereas the opponent may be given a chance to give their option, they would be limited with what has already been given by the proactive party. The proactive party would always set the tone and thereby have greater say in the negotiation, regardless of the equal opportunities given to both parties (Jun Geol Ouk, 2007, pp. 606 615). Whereas equality of the parties is granted, this may not play in terms of the discussions on the main tenets of the conflict and possible resolutions. The intention of parties in the negotiation table is usually to get favourable resolutions based on their situation or the conflict. Gregorio Billikopf (2001) argues that Interest based (or integrative) negotiation is built upon the principle of meeting the needs of all the individuals or stakeholders . In 1831, in Virginia, he led an insurrection and more than 55 white people were killed. It was very bloody and violent and angered many whites from its brutality (Nash, 275). Yet, many blacks felt that the only thing that would get a response was an uprising and taking drastic measures. In Christiana, Pennsylvania, the Fugitive Slave Laws were passed. These laws stated that whites could recapture their runaway slaves. Blacks were outraged by the passing of these laws and rioted in response to this (Roots of Resistance). This demonstrated how blacks would react in manners that were more forceful and these tactics were used by a number of other abolitionists, however, many still used different approaches to battling slavery. Many abolitionists used writing to end slavery. In 1827, the first black newspaper, Freedom s Journal, was created by Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm (Notes, 11/29/00). This paper spread ideas of freedom and equality and gave hope to the black readers. David Walker, the son of a free black mother and a slave father, pushed the abolitionist movement into militancy in 1829 when he published David Walker s Appeal. South Africa s Chamber of Mines, an industry association, estimates that South Africa loses about 5% of its potential annual mineral production to illegal mining, the los production estimates at $2 billion. There are few machines that can do the work of a miner so it mainly dependent on human physical labor and of course it comes with many dangerous risks. The majority of the illegal miners make up of immigrants from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho or other central and southern African nations that come to South Africa in hopes of hitting the jackpot or at least make a living for their families. Some of the miners who are South African work for legit companies in the day and at night do a little side work under the table off the books which is illegal. One of the main causes of the increase in illegal miners is that it takes a long while to receive a legal permit from the government to work legally, thus many of these individuals don t have the luxury or time to wait around as they need money desperately. Mining companies in the country face a lot of pressure globally and locally, globally stagnant or falling commodity prices, and growing nationalism over a nation s extractive resources. The companies face an uncertain regulatory environment, rising demands by government, potential labor unrest and shrinking margins. Local police are normally sent out to regulate in the mining areas, but are often outnumbered and outmatched by the heavily armed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Trail Of Tears Dbq The Trail of Tears was a series of relocations of the Native American people by the United States government in 1832. Although a very controversial idea, president Andrew Jackson pushed for the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which allowed the relocation of the Native Americans from their homeland to Indian Territory of present day Oklahoma (O Brien). The Trail of Tears had a negative impact on the Native American people, while benefiting the United States with a time of economic prosperity and growth. Around 1800, many factors came into play that brought about the Indian Removal Act. For starters, the invention of the cotton gin in 1790 revolutionized the cotton industry creating an effective and efficient technique for large scale farming. (O Brien) Purchasing the Native American land would allow cheap and abundant soil for the expansion of agriculture into the South (Sansing 59). As well as expanding the business of agriculture, the United States government wanted to expand their territory South towards the Mississippi River, while building a territorial wall from the foreign country territories of the west:... Using Alternatives Sources Of Energy Up until a few years ago, we used to exploit fossil fuels for almost all of our needs (heating, transportation, etc.) without thinking if there are enough supplies or even about their negative effects their emissions cause to the environment. According to many scientific investigations our fossil fuel resources (oil, coaland gas) are running out, furthermore their emissions pollute the environment and contribute to the greenhouse effect. Undoubtedly, these situations as well as the fact that the demand for electricity is increasing more and more globally made us thinking about using alternatives sources of energy. Many possible fuels are being tested at the moment in order to find which one is the most suitable in terms of efficiency,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that things seemed to run smoothly, in 1973 when the oil crisis began, nuclear industry had to face environmental issues which made the construction of power stations such an expensive deal. Nowadays, nuclear power seem to be more promising than ever due to the increased demand of electricity. After many investigations experts have determined that there are two ways that nuclear power can be utilized. The first way is called Nuclear Fission , this way is mainly used in power stations, uranium and other heavy elements are used as fuels. By its reaction heavy cores separate into medium sized cores, where energy is released. The following figure shows how much electricity was generated in 6 countries by nuclear power in 2007. The second way that nuclear power can utilizes is called Nuclear Fusion , this way needs more investigation in order to be applied in power stations. Hydrogen and other light elements would be used as fuels and from its reaction fuse light cores are converted into medium sized cores, where energy is released. Nuclear Fusion s 2 most promising reactions are the DT reaction, which fuses deuterium (heavy isotope of hydrogen) with tritium (heavier isotope of hydrogen), making Helium (light monoatomic gas) and the DD reaction, which fuses deuterium with deuterium. • 40. Analysis Of The Crystal Gems Essay Steven Universe is a TV show on Cartoon Network that centers around a fourteen year old human gem alien hybrid named Steven and his three gem alien guardians who seek to protect the earth from their home planet. His mother, Rose Quartz, led a rebellion group called The Crystal Gems against her home planet to thwart their plans to colonize the Earth. Years later, she died giving birth to Steven. For a children s show, it has covered many topics, including defying the gender norm, mental illness, and abusive relationships. The relationship of two characters, Jasper and Lapis Lazuli, is a sensitive topic of discussion among fans and critics alike. There are three points of view on the subject. They include that Jasper is the abuser, Lapis is the abuser, and the relationship was mutually abusive. When considering the characteristics that make a relationship abusive, and how the relationship is being portrayed in the show, all the evidence points to Lapis Lazuli as the abuser. On the show, the alien gems practice fusion, which is a process of combining the forms of two (or more) gems to form a single entity. Fusions are usually used for combative purposes, but can symbolize many types of relationships ranging to healthy and unhealthy. While Jasper and Lapis Lazuli s relationship was neither romantic or platonic, their fusion is heavily implied to represent an abusive relationship. • 41. The Use Of Moral Codes In The Beatitudes Christianity, too, has a set of moral codes that its members are called to follow. The main Christian moral code is known as the Beatitudes, spoken by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. They acknowledge a reward for the poor, mourning, meek, hungry, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, persecuted, and insulted (Barnes, 2017). In addition to the Beatitudes, there are two greatest commandments offered as a moral guide for Christians. These two commandments are stated in the Gospel of Matthew: Love the Lord your Godwith all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22: 37 29). In addition to the standard moral codes, Christians also follow the Ten Commandments, instructions inscribed on stone given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments, though, are aimed at combatting sin, forcing Christians to understand that sin can be committed in more than one way: in thought, word, and deed (Barnes, 2017). Like Hinduism , moral codes make known the responsibility that followers have to both the deity and to others. In Christianity, moral codes are made known more obviously than in Hinduism, and are aimed at all Christians, not based on circumstances. Every Christian is called to obey this responsibility regardless of wealth, occupation, age, etc. Both Hindus and Christians are responsible for serving their God or god(s) and humanity through expression of these codes and commandments. They each obey this responsibility in various ways. Hinduism contains a wide variety of practices consisting of: meditation, yoga, devotions, and pilgrimages (Molloy, 92). Meditation is an integral part of the Hindu religion, it is known as when the mind is focused only on the object of concentration (Molloy, 92). A specific way in which this can be performed is through yoga. The Hindu religion not only practices the physical yoga that is most prevalent in the Western world, but they practice several. The most well known yoga exercises are: Bhakti yoga, Raja yoga, Hatha yoga, and Kundalini yoga (Molloy, 92 93). • 45. Taking a Look at Prejudice and Ignorance Prejudice and ignorance are two of the most prominent ills of our society today. The way gay soldiers are treated today is no exception. Many have been forced to resign due to their sexual orientation, which has little or nothing to do with their ability as soldiers. Most members of our armed forces have no experience in relating to gaypeople, resulting in a fear that has caused pain to many people, both homosexual and heterosexual. In 2010, Obama put this country into place when he signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 . Even though this was signed, it is still a very heated debate within the government and this society. People should not have to worry about being gay when they sign up to protect their country. They also should not be judged on the basis of their sexuality. When Obama signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 , it got rid of the original Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act that was signed by President Clinton in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act , was not working out as planned. Instead of helping the gay community, it made things a lot worse. In an article written by Lincoln Caplan, he states, Investigators routinely ask soldiers to name other marines rumored to be gay and threaten them if they don t confess to homosexual acts. John Stuart Mill s Philosophy of Happiness Essay John Stuart Mill s Philosophy of Happiness Along with other noted philosophers, John Stuart Mill developed the nineteenth century philosophy known as Utilitarianism the contention that man should judge everything in life based upon its ability to promote the greatest individual happiness. While Bentham, in particular, is acknowledged as the philosophy s founder, it was Mill who justified the axiom through reason. He maintained that because human beings are endowed with the ability for conscious thought, they are not merely satisfied with physical pleasures; humans strive to achieve pleasures of the mind as well. In Utilitarianism, Mill noted, utility includes not solely the pursuit of happiness, but the prevention or mitigation of unhappiness (Mill 12). The pursuit of pleasure has also been condemned by critics as being little more than the promotion of one s own interests, with no regard to the happiness of others. Mill disputes this as being narrow minded, clarifying that the pleasure principle which forms the foundation for utilitarianism, what is right in conduct, is not the agent s own happiness, but that of all concerned (Mill 16). With this acknowledgment, however, comes the criticism that people cannot possibly be motivated by something as satisfying the collective good of society. Mill countered this by pointing out, The utilitarian morality does recognize in human beings the power of sacrificing their own greatest good for the good of others (Mill 16). To the objection that pleasure is an acceptable end is contrary to Christian principles because it is godless, Mill states, If it be a true belief that God desires, above all things, the happiness of his creatures, and that this was his purpose in their creation, utility is not only not a godless doctrine, but more profoundly religious than any other (Mill 21). Mill s pleasure principle was disputed by both philosophers and theologians because of its apparent lack of association to a code of morality. To this, Mill contended that there can ... Advent Of The Sasanian Period 1 At the advent of the Sasanian period, Opposition between Zoroastrianism, Sasanian official and patronized religion, and Semitic religions, specifically Christianism, which traditionally rely on their holy books, compelled the clergies to give up their mere reliance on oral tradition and commence writing down the sacred book Avesta . This radical change very soon required them to generate exposition and exegesis, namely, Zand and subsequently commentaries on both Avesta and Zand which led to the prosperity of religious and juridical and consequently other types of Middle Persian literature. Furthermore, Compiled Avesta in that time not only contained religious subjects but also covered philosophy, logic, rhetoric, and even natural sciences such as medicine and astronomy which shows that everything was interpreted in connection with religion and consequently required explanatory treatises. Moreover, Sasanian kings exorbitant sponsorship of Zoroastrianismbrought the priesthood endless political and financial power which enabled them to sponsor religious schools and consequently promoted composition of religious works more than before. 2 After the downfall of Sasanian dynasty, Zoroastrianism s deprivation of administrative power, the threat of religious conversion, the decrease in the number of priesthood applicants and defect in the body of the Zoroastrian clerical system not only led to the expedition of religious texts copying but also compelled the prominent priests ...
