Personal Reflective Essay Examples
Crafting a personal reflective essay can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. At first
glance, the task seems deceptively simple – after all, who knows you better than yourself?
However, delving into the intricacies of your own experiences, thoughts, and emotions requires a
level of introspection that can be mentally and emotionally demanding.
The difficulty arises from the need to strike a delicate balance between sharing personal insights
and maintaining a coherent, well-structured essay. Reflective writing necessitates not only a
thoughtful examination of one's own experiences but also the ability to articulate those
reflections in a way that engages the reader. It's a journey through your own thoughts and
feelings, and finding the right words to convey those sentiments can be a formidable task.
Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding the pitfalls of self-indulgence or excessive subjectivity.
While the essay is inherently personal, it still needs to resonate with a broader audience,
requiring the author to step back and evaluate the relevance and impact of their experiences on a
more universal scale.
Another aspect of complexity arises from the vulnerability inherent in revealing personal stories.
Sharing authentic reflections may involve revisiting moments of joy, pain, or growth, and it
demands a certain level of courage and self-awareness.
In essence, writing a personal reflective essay requires navigating the intricacies of self-
discovery, emotional expression, and effective communication. It's a process that demands time,
patience, and a willingness to confront one's own vulnerabilities.
In conclusion, while the task of crafting a personal reflective essay may be daunting, the
potential for personal growth and the opportunity to connect with others through shared
experiences make it a valuable endeavor. Similar essays and more comprehensive assistance in
navigating this intricate process can be sought through platforms like HelpWriting.net.

Interpretation
Threat of Entrants are High and unfavorable in the industry. This is a real threat in a
place like Pakistan where the food industry views constantly changing patterns in
demand. Due to its consumer base, that is always on the look out for new and
changed places to eat. Every now and then, a new cafГ© or a restaurant opens up,
out of which only a few are able to successfully survive in the long run. On Zamzama
alone, there are about 20 known restaurants and cafГ©s. Therefore, Nandos must
concentrate its efforts on Differentiation Strategy, as that is key to survival in the
Pakistani food industry (especially, in the major cities of Pakistan).

The Pleasure of Drugs Essays
The Pleasure of Drugs
The Oxford Dictionary defines pleasure. It is a feeling of satisfaction or joy. It is
enjoyment. It is a source of pleasure or gratification. It is formally a persons will or
desire. Finally they define it as sensual gratification. Now if we put these all together
in one sentence, pleasure is something that brings an overall feeling of satisfaction
and gratification while fulfilling desires. If that doesn t sound good, what does? We
have already determined that people naturally are drawn to altered states of
consciousness.
Its a fact that we are drawn to that which feels altered. It starts at a young age and
hypothetically we realize the world of drugs and their ability to enhance normality by

Drugs go hand in hand with this theory. Things that are pleasurable to people are
held on to dearly. No one wants to miss something that feels good, or makes them
feel better than just normal. If I could drink a glass of water and feel pleasurably
numb and introspective, I would, instead of smoking pot. The only thing about that
is, I can t. So when I want to really relax, I do what I remember relaxes me, and that
is marijuana. Its the same anywhere you go. Introspective people who want to be
outgoing in social settings drink alcohol and call it liquid courage .
They enjoy the feeling of being a little looser and able to talk to people that they
might not have otherwise. I could go on for days about this, but it all would come
back to the same thing. People naturally seek out that which makes them happy, and
happiness is often confused with pleasure. There are those who still feel that drugs
are causing the demise of our society and that if we could just get everyone off
drugs then the world would be peaceful and happy. What they don t understand is
that the drug problem is social. It is easy to scapegoat drugs instead of looking at the
internal workings of the actual problem. I found some interesting things on the
Internet. In this quote a Reverend talks about
Marijuana:
For some, drugs are simply easier to get than alcohol. (I (Rachel) and going to
interject with this, when did alcohol stop being a drug?) Some attempt to

Biocultural Analysis of Gattaca Movie (1997)
Introduction
Gattaca is an American based science fiction cinema directed by Andrew Niccol in
1997. The movie is set shortly where social class is demarcated by the genetic
composition. Eugenics, which is the methodology of conceiving babies via genetic
manipulation, has become the most typical process of giving birth (Niccol, 2015).
Though discrimination is unlawful, the D.N.A analysis has become an ordinary
procedure, and those who were naturally conceived are seen as invalids , which
makes discriminated in various, for instance, resulting in being given minor jobs.
Therefore, this research presents the summary, the biocultural phenomenon, and the
real world implications of Gattaca (1997) movie.
Media Summary
The film, Gattaca (1997) is set shortly where genetically conceived babies are
preferred to those that are born naturally. The main characters in this film include
Vincent Jerome, Eugene, Irene, Director Josef, Detective Hugo, and Anton. Vincent
Freeman is among the last children to be naturally conceived. After his birth, the
physicians tell his parents of his many limitations, in particular, that his lifespan is
estimated to be 30.2 years (Niccol, 2015). Vincent decides to travel to the stars.
However, he is categorized by the society as not suitable regarding his genetic
composition, and he has turned out to be among the discriminated humans who are
only offered menial careers. To proceed with his mission, he assumes Jerome
Morrow s identity since the latter had a perfect genetic composition and was
paraplegic due to his involvement in a car accident. Vincent manages to deceive the
urine and DNA sample testing after following a professional advice. However, his
mission becomes jeopardized when his program director is murdered, and a fresh
investigation is tabled.
Biocultural Phenomenon
In the near future, when the idea of genetic engineering is common among humans,
and the DNA plays an integral part in identifying one s social class, Vincent is
conceived and born naturally without the assistance of genetic engineering
technologies. He suffers from the almost eliminated physical deformations of
congenital heart disease and myopia, and
Gangs In The Outsiders
Gangs in general can be good or bad. A gang is usually a group of friends or people
with similarities. They usually put people in danger. Some people consider their
friend group a gang. These people usually dress the same and act the same
depending in what gang you are in. People in gangs can be criminals and they usually
are. Criminal gangs do all kinds of bad things or anything illegal. Some people in
gangs feel alone in life so they joined a gangand it makes them feel better. People in
gangs are usually poor and sad. If someone has lost all their money and family and
they have nothing left they will probably join a gang. For some people their gang
is like family to them. People in gangs are usually called gangsters. Others in gangs
are totally fine and they just want to have fun. The typical stereotype for gangs is
that they are bad and people should stay away from them. Not all gangs are bad.
There are so many different types of gangs and not all for them are bad. For example
the greasers are not totally bad.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main gangs in the Outsiders are the Greasers and the Socs. They have their
differences and their similarities. The greaser act the same as all of the other
greasers. And the Socs all act the same and dress the same as the other Socs. The
gangs in this book can get really violent. They go from punching each other to
attacking each other with blades. A blade is kinda like a knife and a pocketknife in
one. It seems like being a part of a gang can be rough.
The Socs are not poor at all. They are the rich and popular gang. They think they
are way better than the greasers. Socs usually wear nice shoes with some type of
plaid shirt and khakis. They are considered attractive and very rough and tough.
They are kind of the bad guys in this novel. They do not take drugs or rob any stores
but they are good at picking fights. Over all the Socs are pretty mean people to the
Mediation Causes A Great Deal Of Impact On American
Society
Mediation causes a great deal of impact on American society. In the movie Gamer,
characters deal with a never ending cycle of competition and become trapped in
conflict. Superficial worlds collide with reality and these worlds impact every
citizen in the film. A viewer watching the film may feel disgusted at the thought of
being controlled as easily as characters in Gamer are, but the sad truth lies within
the reality of our own, mediated world. Gamer plays on viewers pre conceived
beliefs mediation causes. The common beliefs of competition making the world spin
around and money buying happiness, trap us as citizens in a vicious cycle of
conflict with the world around us. Gamer takes place in a near future New York City
where a twisted man named Ken Castle invents a method to controlpeoples minds.
Castle has developed a nano cell that replicates itself when placed on human brain
cells and eventually takes over a subject,s whole mind. Castle also created two
virtual worlds where citizens hire other citizens to implant nano cells and give up
control of their minds. The paying citizens then obtain complete control over their
employee . Society, comparable to The Sims of our world, allows for control in all
aspects of life. The other world Castle creates, Slayers, contains similar qualities to
our own modern day multi player shooting games like the Call of Duty or Halo
series. A twist in Slayers gameplay does exist though. Instead of controlling anyone

Anterior Thoracic Nerves
The Anterior Thoracic Nerves 1 is part of the thoracic region in the spinal nerve that
originates thoracic vertebrae 1 (T1). When T1 is not functional and there is limited
activity in the upper extremity, it causes a debilitating condition called scapular
winging. The muscles affected are serratus anterior, trapezius, and rhomboids. Loss
of function of the Anterior Thoracic Nerves 1 would affect the antagonist muscles of
Shoulder Medial Rotation (Serratus anterior, Trapezius, and Rhomboids), not the
synergist muscles that create the movement (Pectoralis major, Subscapularis,
Latissimus dorsi, Teres major, and Anterior deltoid). Scapular winging causes you to
lose ability in lifting, pulling, carrying, and pushing heavy objects. Serratus anterior
British Isles Research Paper
The British Isles are a large set of islands located in the northern hemisphere, and
are comprised of a mild climate and varied soils, as well as also being home to a
diverse pattern of vegetation and a climatic climax community of deciduous
woodland. These isles are home to many ecosystems, in which they are a dynamic
interlinked system characterised by the interaction of plants and animals that are
shared with each other, being that organic and non organic components of the
environment. The British Isles are an example of a Lithosere succession, with the
Lithosere as its primary succession (although not its only type of natural succession),

The reasons behind the desire for ecological conservation include encouraging
wildlife back into cities, making cheap use of derelict areas and maintaining a
diverse species base by reintroducing locally extinct species. Work done in such
areas involves planting trees (predominantly native species), dredging of ponds,
and soil improvements, and will often involve local volunteers, showing the
human activity catering for a natural succession in a positive light. An example of
a successful ecological conservation area is that of Troopers Hill, located in
southeast Bristol. The conservation of the Troopers Hill Local Nature Reserve has
preserved much of the pre existing habitats of the area, consequently enabling the
survival of native species and plants. The main aim of the project has been
fulfilled, as a variety of different habitats have been preserved, resulting with an
increase in biodiversity; including mammals such as hedgehogs and foxes, as well
as more than 40 species of bird and a wide variety of insects, with around 70
species of bee, with bees being a crucial part in almost every natural succession.
Another reason for the creation of such areas is due to the fact that local people want
a safe environment for leisure activities and that local authorities desire to make
cheap use of
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Repeaters
In order to accomplish each of the above tasks there can be various devices used for
this purpose they are repeaters, bridges, switches, routers and gateway. Each of these
devices will be discussed below along with their advantages, disadvantages and
specifications.
1.Repeaters are electronic devices that receive a single and modify it into higher
level or power signal and then retransmit so it can travel or cover longer distances
hence in a way it regenerate, amplifies or reconstruct a signal. A repeater functions
in OSI model at the physical layer and it is transparent to all the protocols that are
operating in the layers above the physical layer. As repeater cannot differentiate
between noise and data hence with data noise is also amplified. There are some
advantages and disadvantages of repeaters:

Massachusetts General Hospital Merger Case
It was interesting to read about the potential merger between Brigham and Women
s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) due to the
increased rise in healthcare economics in the mid 1980s and early 1990s. I do
agree that the vision of the Harvard Medical School dean of merging the five major
hospitals to curb the healthcare costs was a good idea but definitely not an ideal
idea due to the fact of how big of an idea it was. Also, it was a proposal that
definitely would cause friction between the fiercely competing entities. IF that
was surely done, then that would have been one impressive undertaking to see
how five prominent hospitals in the region came together as one. Another
interesting thing I took away from the readings was how Harvard Medical School
was affiliated with almost all the hospitals whether they were private, public or
community type in the region. The five hospital merger would definitely have
given even a bigger leg up for Harvard Medical School than before. It does make me
wonder if the dean wanted to do it more for healthcare economic crisis that was
happening or to build the brand name even bigger or both. When applying Porter s
Five Forces to Dr. Nesson s decision to merge BWH and MGH it makes more sense
as to why he would opt for that particular merger as oppose to the grandiose... Show

How Fashion Photography Has Changed Throughout The
Years
In this essay I am going to discuss how fashion photography has evolved throughout
the decades. Some of the subjects I am going to discuss are; the beginnings of fashion
photography, the different styles of fashion photography, and fashion magazines.
Fashion photography is a genre of photography in which clothing and other material
garments are photographed for the purpose of displaying in a fashion magazine or for
the use in an advertisement. This style of photography has been around since the
early days of photography itself, however the first fashion photographs didn t surface
until 1856. Photographer Adolphe Braun took the first fashion photographs of
Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione. These photographs were published into a
book which contained over 200 other photographs of the Countess. Due to these
photographs the Countess became the first ever fashion model. In the 1990 s printing
advancements meant that photographers could include their work in magazine
spreads. This allowed fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper s Bazaar (which
were both founded in the 1800 s) to include photographs. These magazines were
initially hand illustrated but the new developments in printing meant that fashion
magazines were able to show photographs of what the clothing actually looked like ...

Some of these can include catalogue/look book images, editorial images, and high
fashion images. Each genre requires a different approach because they each have a
specific style requirement to fulfil. For example, catalogue images need to show a set
wardrobe of clothing so that the brand/company can sell more of the items, the poses
that the models are in are very simple and the images are very clean cut. On the other
hand, high fashion images are styled completely different. High fashion images are
made to look out of the ordinary with dramatic clothing and exaggerated

Samson By William King Analysis
The story of Samson by William King
The story of Samson starts with three judges who ruled in turn over israel, their
names were ibzan, elon, and abdon. The people of israel began to worship idols,
and as punishment God allowed them to pass under the power of their enemies and
what is known as the seventh oppression fell upon israel, it came from the
philistines, a strong and warlike people who lived on the west side of israel. They
overran the land and relived the Israelites of their swords and spears. In the tribe
land of Dan there was a living man by the name of Manoah, one day an angel came
to his wife and said You shall have a son and when he grows up he will deliver
Israel from the Philistines hands, but your son must never drink any wine or strong

When the child was born it was named Samson he grew up to be the strongest man

Baldwin s Father in Notes of a Native Son Essay
Playgrounds of Harlem Narrative is a form of writing used by writers to convey
their experiences to an audience. James Baldwin is a renowned author for
bringing his experience to literature. He grew up Harlem in the 1940 s and 1950 s,
a crucial point in history for America due to the escalading conflict between people
of different races marked by the race riots of Harlem and Detroit. This environment
that Baldwin grew up in inspires and influences him to write the narrative Notes of
a Native Son, which is based on his experience with racism and the Jim Crow Laws.
The narrative is about his father and his influence on Baldwin s life, which he
analyzes and compares to his own experiences. When Baldwin comes into... Show

He was also a conserved man who secluded himself like a prophet, such as Tiresias,
the prophet from Oedipus who lived isolated from society. He was marked with an
inability to establish contact with others, except perhaps with his neighborhood
which he left only hostility and uncharitable asperity. (67) However, his failure in
social relationships also stretched, even though to one so close as to be called
family, to his son James Baldwin. This led Baldwin to hate his father for what he
was. Baldwin s father was detested as much by Baldwin as his siblings. Baldwin
explains: When he took one of his children on his knee to play, the child always
became fretful and began to cry; when he tried to help one of us with our
homework the absolutely unabating tension which emanated from him caused our
minds and our tongues to become paralyzed, so that he, scarcely knowing why,
flew into a rage and the child, not knowing why, was punished. (65) It would seem
that this man was a failure as a father. This passage, coming from the father s son,
would undoubtedly have experienced this first hand. While using words such as us
and our, Baldwin evokes an image of the pain him and his siblings went through. His
presence was enough to paralyze a child when trying to help it with homework.
When trying to comfort a child by playing with it, he only vexed the child further,
causing it to cry. Baldwin depicts

Have you been feeling your one true love will never appear? Are you reading
relationship books which list from A Z how to find your love match?
So many of us are searching for our one true love... the story book romance, but are
not really understanding a few important factors. Whether you believe this or not, the
Law of Attraction is real. This law extends to anything and everything in your life.
You might be asking yourself how do I start this?
The number one key to finding true love naturally is to love yourself first. If you
love yourself unconditionally you will attract someone who truly loves you. Instead
of spending time searching for him/her, spend time on yourself. Heal your old
wounds and release past relationship pains and forgive yourself and others who have
caused you pain. Nothing in your life is a mistake as everything happens for a reason.
While you are spending time alone and connecting to a higher source through
relaxation or mediation it is also imperative to change your thought process. Your

Essay about Keeping the Drinking Age at 21
When it comes to the subject of drinking and teenagers, what is the first thing that
comes to mind? To me it s the legal age limit of when teens should be able to drink.
Having it lowered is controversial because according to prior experiences, data
shows that younger age drinking is well known for its fatalities. According to
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), on one of the most popular prom nights
in 1999, as many as 62 percent of the traffic deaths were alcohol related (). The most
important question is whether or not the drinking age anywhere in the United States
should be lowered, raised or if it should stay the same. Statistics prove that the legal
drinking age should remain at the age of twenty one in the United States.... Show

The number killed in alcohol impaired driving crashes decreased 71% from the
record high of 5,215 in 1982 to a record low 1,510 in 2008 (Drunk Driving
Research) [(teenagers and alcohol)]. The drinking age is kind of an experiment
around the world. In many places around Europe, people who are below the age of
twenty one are allowed to drink by law. Many teenagers around the US find this
law biased, because teens aren t given enough credit for how responsible they can
be. In Northern Europe, people see alcohol as a culture issue. In many countries it is
traditional to have a glass of wine or two during each meal. The drinking age in other
countries vary but the normal legal age is between 16 18 years of age. A recent study

Nature vs. Nurture Shown in Family Addiction
Consider the following scenario: John and his mother are both alcoholics. John has
been exposed to his mother s inappropriate relationship with alcohol since before he
was born. In the age old debate of nature vs. nurture, some would say it was merely
natural for John to follow his mother s path, a la the apple does not fall far from the
tree his addiction was inherited. Others would argue that John s childhood
experiences and home environment led him on the road to addiction. Many might
question whether John would have fared better if he had been raised elsewhere.
While John may have been a victim of circumstance or fate, a completely different
angle can be considered. Perhaps John s alcoholism is a genetic result a result that
was influenced by his unfortunate environmental factors. In other words, John
inherited his nature via his nurture. The positions surrounding the explanation of John
s outcome have been debated for centuries by ordinary people, philosophers,
geneticists and psychologists. With recent advancements, a second genome has been
recognized and established as the epigenome, which is directly influenced by the
outside environment (Francis). While extreme positions still exist within the nature
vs. nurture debate, most scientists now agree that a combination of the two
determines one s outcome; with the burgeoning field of epigenetics, however, the
ability to overcome one s genes, to some extent, ends the debate and offers hope that

The Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Credit Cards
Nowadays credit cards are the preferred method of payment all around the world.
Whether you re buying fruits at the market to TV s at the store, credit cards can be
used to purchase almost anything you can imagine. But, like most things credit cards
also have advantages and disadvantages that come with using them. Such as how
easy it is to accrue credit carddebt which affects your credit score. Some advantages
that come with a credit card include building up your credit score, keeping your
cash safe in case you lose your card, and reward programs. Credit cards can be
extremely bad if you allow yourself to build up debt. It is extremely easy to build up
debt. That s because many credit cards have high interest rates, which means the
amount owed can quickly snowball out of control. (Bahney) The more moneyyou
spend with the credit card, the more money you owe the credit card company if
you don t pay your monthly bills on time. Everyday commodities have slowly been
increasing in price. One of the biggest drivers of our credit card debt is that cost of
living has been outpacing income growth. (Bahney) The cost of living is more
than the income of most families. That is a reason why consumer debt has reached
a total of 1 trillion dollars in the United States. You have to pay extra money if you
don t pay your bills on time. Failing to pay your credit card bills on time can hurt
you in more ways than one. First, you ll face a late paymentfee (Backman) Not only
do you have to pay interest on top of the money owed but you also have to pay an
extra late fee which just ends up hurting you even more. All of the late fees and
interests you have to pay affect your credit score. being late with payments is a
surefire way to damage your credit score, (Backham) Your credit score is basically
a rating based on how well you pay your dues. Your credit score determines how
much interest will be, whether your eligible for a credit card, and plenty of other
things because they need to be able to trust that you ll pay them back. So, if your
credit score goes downhill due to late fees and interest then people will be less likely
to trust you with their money. Some of the disadvantages that come with having a
credit card are
Personal Learning Management
Personal learning management The software application is being added a new
functionality it is supposed to enter, store and recall a valuable item of learning. At
this level then, it is necessary to examine the iteration control structure and the final
aim is that of classifying the learning item into one of the three categories: High
value Significant value, and Limited value. The first step in attaining the desired
objective is that of launching the application and attesting the compatibility
between the already existent data and the data to be introduced. It is then
necessary to introduce the data and to store it, making it easily accessible for
future usage. At a more detailed level, the steps to be followed refer to the
following: Launching of the application Testing the compatibility between the
application and the data used Assessing the new data in light of the data already
contained by the application Integrating the new data in the necessary group, string
etc. Identifying the features of the new data Identifying the features of the already

The Fall Of Caesar s Angel
The Fall Of Caesar s Angel
As Caesar dies, he gasps, Et tu, Brute? (III. i. 77). To betray a close friend for the
better of the country only to have it end all in vain is a tragedy in its own. For
Brutus, this is his journey in Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.
Although the play is named after Caesar, it is evident that Brutus is the tragic hero as
the audience watches the events of the play unfold. Brutus s characteristics and
actions line up perfectly with Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero which states that
the tragic hero must be admirable and of noble birth, possess hamartia, undergo
peripeteia as well as anagnorisis, and force the audience to experience catharsis in
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. First of all, Brutus high rank and
admirable qualities coincide with Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero. In the play,
Brutus is a highly regarded senator whom has everyone s trust including Caesar s.
By the cause of his honorable stature, Brutus is loved and admired by everyone in
Rome. Although his honor leads him into poor judgement, many people still have
trust in him and follow him all the way through the play. Even after he has conspired
against his friend Caesar, and dies at the end of the play, his enemies still see him as
a noble Roman. After coming upon Brutus body, Antony laments, This was the
noblest Roman of them all/...His life was gentle, and the elements/ So mixed in him

That s cool. We get it. But, you d still like to be as energy efficient as possible. The
answer is a water re circulator. This system heats the water already idling in your
plumbing. pipes You get near instant hot water, which is far more efficient than
waiting on hot water to arrive at the kitchen faucet from the conventional water
heater all while standing at the sink as cold water runs wastefully down the drain.
Serious Insulation If you re new to Florida from a colder climate, you know how
important insulation can be to a home s comfort, particularly in winter. That s true
even in the Sunshine State. Here, you ll spend far more time in air conditioning.
But proper insulation also buttresses your house from summer heat. And yes,
depending where you live in Florida, you ll experience occasional cool snaps. So
focus on maintaining consistent interior comfort year around. The best way to do
that is to be sure your new Florida home boasts the maximum amount of good
quality insulation all over the house. You ll see fewer spikes in your power bill, and
make fewer tweaks to your thermostat. Whole House Vacuuming It s the best thing

lugging upright vacuum cleaners, or heavy canister cleaners all over the house. A
whole house vacuuming system simplifies an onerous chore.

The Mystery Of The Vampire
Vampires, zombies, ghosts, and demons are the four biggest genres of Western
horror. While some horror movie tropes seem to come and go, like mummies,
witches, cannibals, those four genres never seem to disappear. Every couple of
months a new haunted house movie comes out, and since the start of AMC s The
Walking Dead, zombies have not even taken a break. Even considering how popular
zombies are now, there is one type of creature that we will always be plagued with;
the vampire. Just in the 21st century we have had dozens of vampire based movies
and shows: Van Helsing, Blade, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, True Blood, no matter
the genre directors always find some way to add vampires to it. That is the true
curse of the vampire. Before vampires were turned into crazy love/sex dramas for
teens, they use to bring fear to people, not romance. In, From Caligari to Hitler,
Kracauer explains how Germany was charmed by stories of unescapable tyranny; it
was a fear of the people. Germany was out of balance and they needed to choose
their establishment, they feared that tyranny would be bad, but enjoyed watching the
horrors of tyranny in film (Kracauer, p. 76). Vampire films like Nosferatuand Dracula
star a tyrannical, unstoppable man and the citizens are powerless to fight back
against his reign and his lust. Kracauer questions the German peoples love for movies
like these, did they call upon frightened visions to exorcise lusts which, they sensed,
were their own and now threatened

strategies used by expert problem solvers and instructing other students to improve
their mathematical problem solving skills. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to
distinguish if mathematical problem solving skills improved due to interventions

Wilson (2001) and Wilson and Clarke (2002, 2004) utilizing their framework and

in which their teachers were asked to respond to a survey that described the

Three Major Long-Term Causes Of The Great Depression
New Deal Essay The Great Depression is a terrible part of America s history that
caused many to experience pain and suffering. There were three major long term
causes of the Great Depression, and one of them was farming. After World War I,
farmers who made a lot of money by producing all of Europe s food continued to
produce food at the same rate. However, not as much food was needed, and its
overproduction let to a massive decrease in its prices. Farmers tried to earn their
money by growing even more food to make up for the drops in prices, but found that
it made prices drop even more. Another factor of the Great Depressionwas consumer
spending. Since companies saw that a lot of people were buying their products, they

During this time, most people believed that neither women nor racial African
Americans should have jobs when many white men struggled to find decent jobs
to support their families. Opposers argue that since 65 percent of the African
American workforce was excluded from the initial Social Security program , then
the New Deal was racist by choosing to treat African Americans unfairly (Brad
Plumer, The Washington Post, A Second Look at Social Securities Racist Origins,
June 13, 2013). Roosevelt is also blamed for not creating laws to protect African
Americans from lynching, since most caucasians believed that all white men
should have jobs before any African American did. They believe that the New Deal
failed because it made no effort to treat women as equals to men in the workplace
by not paying them the same wages as men. They argue that the New Deal did
nothing to fix these social issues that arose during the Great Depression, but they are
mistaken. Roosevelt did not ignore the issue of racism and lynching caused by the
Great Depression, as shown in an article from PBS by Richard Wormser titled Jim
Crow Stories that states, Roosevelt began to publicly speak out against lynching and
granted influential black leaders such as Mary McLeod Bethune access to the White

Evil In The Bell Jar
Evil can be defined as being profoundly immoral and wicked (Oxford Dictionaries,
2017).
In my texts, evil is displayed in many forms. In Disgrace, David Lurie s evil is caused
by his distorted viewpoints and in The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, all three cases
are as a result of poverty. In The Bell Jar, Esther s evilsuicidal attempts are caused
by her narcissistic insanity; in The Crow, evil is an offset of Eric s traumatic
experience and need for revenge; and in Fargo, evil arises as a result of bullying.
Each character mentioned provides a different way of expressing the evil within them.
The above definition gives us a basis in determining what research has revealed as
evil s two root causes. The first is circumstantial; ... Show more content on

Soraya is a prostitute, whom David sees every Thursday afternoon. David sees her
merely as a beautiful object that he can make use of by stating that her beauty does
not belong to her alone (Coetzee, 2009). She is a 2D persona for David, resulting
in their sex being lengthy, abstract and rather dry (Coetzee, 2009) and Soraya
avoids David as soon as he begins to pry into her personal life. Melanie Isaacs, on
the other hand, is not a prostitute but a student of David s, who attracts David due
to her purity and looks. David is unable to admit that he raped Melanie, trying to
justify his actions by saying that she does not resist (Coetzee, 2009) and that he is
merely acting as a servant of Eros (Coetzee, 2009). We are able to see how evil David
is in the way that he never feels shame for his wrongdoings, despite being disgraced
(publically shamed and being dismissed by the university). David claims that he
was enriched by the experience (Coetzee, 2009) of raping Melanie and in court
says I have said the words to you (Coetzee, 2009) showing the futility of the
apology. The root of David s evilness is not deeply explored in the novel, but can be
linked to his skewed mindset that women were made as an appendage to man and
to be used by man. David s deep passion for poetry of the Romantic Era, has led him
to want to follow in the footsteps of his role model, Byron, who was known to have
been a womanizer, having
The City By Armistead Maupin
The San Francisco of the 1970s is a city immersed in the counterculture movement:
It encouraged experimentation and tolerance for unconventional behavior, vices
and eccentric politics. The culture rejected the principles of mainstream society
and espoused living for one s self. This philosophy of life attracted people from all
over the United States to travel westwards to San Francisco. The promise of the
counterculture fascinated people who were not satisfied with their current
lifestyles. They came to the city in the hopes of reinventing themselves.
Individuals sought to scape their past routines, to get away from the people and
societies that burdened them. In the bohemian city, they aspired to find a place to
belong. The characters in Tales of the City, by Armistead Maupin, convey these
desires and frustrations in members of all social classes. The novel reveals the
consequences that come with reinvention. As portrayed by Maupin, San Francisco
signifies both a chance for liberation, and a life beset by secrets, whereby
individuals are often haunted by their pasts. San Francisco s culture allows for
greater freedom, in part due to its sexual and gay liberation. In the midst of the
counterculture and the hippie movement, San Francisco becomes a city that is more
accepting of queer, unconventional behavior. Gays and lesbians come with the hope
to live openly as homosexuals. Michael Tolliver exemplifies this desire. He is a
young gay man who leaves Florida and his family
The Pros And Cons Of Portfolio Theory
During the interviews, it was understood that Portfolio Theory is difficult to apply to
loaning administration. A bank is required to have a flexible credit evaluating
process to capture the individuality of each loan. These differences depend on the
size of the loan and the different clients risks. This makes it difficult to apply loan
portfoliodiversificationcompared to a portfolio of bonds or stocks. Nevertheless, more
than the fixed principles banks seem to follow the intuition behind it not to expose
themselves more than a limit.
The banks seem to assume that a well diversified loan portfolio will happen on its
own as long as it covers the strategically important regions. The banks have not
focused in on a certain industry or geographical area historically, all the banks seem
to rely on their size when it comes to having a well diversified loan portfolio. They

Motifs in Creation Myths Essay
Motifs in Creation Myths The motifs found in the creation myths are undoubtedly
different from those found in any other type of myth. Contrary to popular belief, the
purpose of the creation myths is much greater than a primitive attempt to explain the
mysteries of creation. Behind each creation myth is a vast variety of symbolism along
with a number of motives which are often shared between cultures, despite vast
geographical differences. My intention here is not only to discuss the purpose of the
creation myths, but also to compare and contrast common themes which can be found
in three selected works. These being, an Eskimo creation myth, the Ongwe creation
myth and the Navajo creation myth. Even with modern advances in... Show more

We now see these theories as inaccurate, due to the fact that they have been
replaced by newer scientific models. In a modern light, it can be stated that
creation myths describe not the origin of our cosmos but rather these myths allow
us to gain a broader understanding of ancient theories and beliefs. During the time
of their invention however, these myths were precisely an honest interpretation of
the outer world, and therefore they served the exact purpose which is stated in
their title, to explain the process of creation. A technique that is used in many
creation myths can be referred to as creation from above. In this method of
narration, the creator often creates a replica of earth within the heavens, and
somehow recreates this image in the abyss below. An example of this can
originally be found in Kund Rasmussen s collection of Eskimo myths. In this story
a being called Tulungersaq, or Father Raven is born in the heavens. He initially
takes the form of a human being and is entirely unaware of how he came into
existence. He is in complete darkness and it is through his sense of touch that he
becomes aware of his surroundings. Through his exploration, he discovers a

before him. He goes on to bury something beneath the earth and soon after he
discovers that the earth is no longer sterile, it is now covered in bushes and grass.

working out agreements on punishment for war criminals, the German economy, land
boundaries and reparations. As well, there talks primarily centered on postwar
Europe and demanding unconditional surrender from Japan. This is also the place
that President Truman received word of the nuclear bomb was working. He told
Prime Minister Churchill about the bomb, but only told Soviet Premier Stalin that a
new weapon was in order. The bomb would give the United Statesthe power they...

Biography of Nelson Mandela
For to be free is not merely to cast off one s chains, but to live in a way that

Mandela lived by these words and showed it in many ways. Nelson Mandela
changed the world by ending apartheid, positively influencing others, and creating
and supporting multiple charities. (add more information) Nelson Mandela was
born on July 18, which is now known as Nelson Mandela day. By being the son of a
tribal councilor, Mandela mastered the art of listening; this helped him become a

win over the white community. ( Why FW de Klerk let Nelson Mandela out of
prison ) Even Barack Obama has said that the day Mandela was released from
prison gave him a sense of what human beings can do. Besides inspiring people, he
inspired songs such as Free Nelson Mandela, Mandela, Black President, and When

Analysis Of The Book Elvira Karlene
ElviraKarlene Edwards Although the small Idaho town where I grew up had a

best girlfriend was a Jehovah s Witness, a boy I dated in high school was a Mormon,
and the town undertakers were Seventh Day Adventists. The prettiest girlin town s
father was black, and down the valley some Japanese farmers owned land, but that
was about it, except for the Basque sheepherders who brought their flocks through

later still spoke the language. I never thought much about how insular we were until
the Walkersadopted Elvira from Mexico. The Walkers were friends of my parents
and sometimes Mr. Walker worked with Dad on construction jobs. I remember the
summer when I was four, Dad and Mr. Walker built Brown s Logging Camp back in
the hills and our families lived in tents, and my motherwashed clothes on a

Graduation Speech On Joining Greek Life
Background Statement Never in a million years did I plan on joining Greek life in
college. When I got to school I quickly decided that I wanted to be more involved
and help make a difference in people s lives. I decided to rush a sorority which
happened to be Delta Gamma. Delta Gamma has provided me with so many
wonderful opportunities to make a difference. When the Whited family reached out
to our chapter here at IUP I knew this would be something I would remember doing
for years to come. The Whited family came to one of our chapter meetings and we
got to meet little Lochlan who touched all of our hearts. I have had so many
wonderful opportunities from this organization already and have received such great

Having philanthropy events has always been one of my favorite things about
Greek life. Whether it is attending other sorority or fraternities events or being apart
of our own. Delta Gamma holds two main events for Service for Sight each year. In
the fall we have Anchor Slam which is a three on three basketball tournament
where sororities and fraternities come out to compete against one another. In the
spring we held Anchor Splash which is a synchronized swimming event with
many different relay races. This year we had the Whited family come and speak
on their behalf. They explained how Lochlan was diagnosed with CRB1 and how
he will eventually loose his eyesight completely. This story touched a lot of
students, faculty, and families that attended our philanthropy. We made Lochlan
our featured anchor man and tried to raise as much money as possible for the
family. This event was very successful and we raised over 1,800 dollars to give to
the family. Each year Delta Gamma has a founder s day. Founder s day was held
this year at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana PA. We celebrated our 35 years on IUP s
campus as Delta Gamma s. Many old alumnae came and celebrated with us at a
formal dinner. This year we invited the Whited family to come and talk about the
struggles their family has been experiencing with their son Lochlan. The alumnae
wanted to raise money for this family and passed around a basket and they donated
over 500 dollars for the retinal
Dunkin Donuts History And Current Position
Dunkin Donuts History and Current Position
Originally opened in 1948 as Open Kettle , Dunkin Donuts is a classic and iconic
company. The company was founded and is still located in Massachusetts. Based off
the idea that construction workers enjoyed dunking their donuts in coffee, the
company has thrived as a straight forward good quality company. Since the time that
the company was founded it has grown to include the Baskin Robbins franchises as
well as grown to over 8 billion US dollars in annual revenue. While the company
served both coffee and donuts for the majority of its existence the focus of the
company was strictly donuts until 2003 when the company rebranded itself to
compete directly with Starbucks as a leading coffee shop. Shortly after that time the
company adopted a new breakfast menu to compete directly with McDonalds and
adopted the slogan, America Runs on Duncan (History of Dunkin Donuts). Currently
the organization runs 11,000 restaurants in 33 countries, that sell 1.8 billion cups of
coffee annually, and accounts for 24% of all coffee sales in the United States
(Champagne, C., Lezzi, T., 2014).
Dunkin Donuts vs Starbucks and Growth Strategy
Dunkin has taken on an entirely new market in competing directly with Starbucks
and McDonalds. In addition it has adopted a growth strategy that will attempt to more
than double the number of its store utilizing the power of franchise owners
(Schermerhornm, 2013). In response to this McDonalds has started
Andre Dubus Techniques
Andre Dubus use of disordered chronology allows readers to feel sympathy towards
each character differently. Dubus style of writing the events out of order also
contributes to the way the characters are portrayed as the story progresses. The
development of the characters is shown through a different perspective using
flashbacks and backstories as well. The interpretation of Killings is based up on how
the reader responds to Dubus use of disordered chronology, flashback, backstory, and
the somewhat of a resolution at the end with the conversation between Matt and
Ruth. Dubus uses the mixed up chronology from the very beginning of the story. By
starting off the story at the setting of the funeral by saying, On the August morning...

The background written on Richard Strout gives the reader an idea of where Richard
came from and what he s been through over the years. For example, people who have
ever had any interaction with Stout are described as having multiple images of him,
the high school running back, the young drunk in bars, the oblivious hard hatted
young man eating his lunch at a counter, the bartender who could perhaps be called
courteous but not more than that. (64) These images of Strout aren t very surprising
and give somewhat of an understanding towards why he is the way he is at the time
of the murder. On the other hand, the background on Strout has a slight sympathetic
tone, although not one significant enough to justify the reason he murdered Frank.
One notable flashback was the scene illustrating the moment Richard shot Frank.
Dubus places this description right in the middle of the story with no warning,
writing, Richard Strout shot Frank in front of the boys. They were sitting on the
living room floor...Frank sitting on the couch, and Mary Ann just returning from the
kitchen with a tray of sandwiches. (67) The scene here is portrayed very innocently,
making any sympathy felt for Richard from the background disappear. Richard s
character is automatically negative after this moment. The murder description is also
important because it is another justification that could be used for Matt s

these objects back to their homes far away.

Essay about Analysis of an Advertisement
Analysis of an Advertisement
In this piece of writing we will be analysing adverts published by Guinness.
Guinness itself has, according to one of its adverts, been around since 1759. If this is
true then this would make Guinness one of the oldest drinks around today, except, of
course, water. What really matters for us is that Guinness has been at the forefront of
advertising since the 1920s. Guinness adverts have constantly changed to both
influence and keep up with changing ideas on gender, as well as giving us a few
surprises along the way. In fact Guinness adverts have been so consistently good that
there are books detailing all of Guinness adverts. One such book is where this piece
gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This again draws the reader s attention to the top and the word Guinness. This is
emphasizing the product name and, in collaboration with the picture, makes sure
that the reader cannot forget what the advert is advertising, as is the case in some
more modern adverts. There is a slight pun in the words Guinness by the sea as it
depicts Guinness as a holiday resort instead of a drink. This lightens the advert up
and may make the reader laugh. This is to make the advert stick in readers
memories, as you are more likely to remember something that you laughed at than
something that you found dull and boring. Also the color helps to achieve this by
being very bright.
I believe that the target audience of this advert is the young adults because it shows
that drinking Guinness is cool. In this way it appeals to snobbery and the desire to
be cool and to keep up with what is fashionable. It also challenges popular notions of
gender by showing women drinking with the men. In this way it depicts women as
equal.
The second advert that we will look at is a T.V commercial from 1996. It is broken
up into eight slides. It shows women at work in what were traditionally considered as
men s jobs, like working down a mine and driving a lorry. It also shows a woman
beating a man in an arm wrestle and an empty maternity ward. This is showing that

Snowboarding Changes
It is strange that over time your view on a simple thing, such as snow can change
so much over the years. As a child, I loved snow! I loved the way it fell from the
sky, falling in swirling patterns as I ran around trying to catch one on my tongue.
It was a quite a process for my mother to put all the clothing that she thought was
necessary. Once this was done, I would run out and open the gate for the dogs, we
owned five, they would stick their nose in the snow then slingshot it towards my
direction. We would continue this until I grew tired then I would throw a tennis ball
for them. I would throw the ball and watch it get buried in the snow. Then the dogs
would run in the general direction the ball was thrown and commenced digging in the

After spending two years in a tropical climate, coming home to a dry and cold
climate seems cruel. Especially when I have to walk from my apartment to my
various classes. But, once again my view on snow has changed once again when
my friend invited me to go snowboarding with him. It was the first time that I went
snowboarding. I was feeling confident. because I know how to skateboard and I
thought I would be able to transition my skills fairly easily. We set out to my
roommates house to pick up his cousin and the snow gear for me. From there we
went to the resort; once we got all our gear one we walked to the bunny hill lift. It
looked simple enough, all you had to do was hold on to a rope that would pull you
and the board up the hill. So I was partly strapped in my board ready to grab on the
rope. Once I grabbed on the force pulling me forward surprised me, I bent this way
and that eventually falling down. This happened two more times until I gave up
and walked the rest of the way up the hill. I like to say the bunny hill went better,
but it didn t. I soon realized that my skills as a skateboarder did not transition well.
I fell many times and there were no signs of me getting better. After we ran the
bunny hill a few times my roommate took me to the intermediate sloop. From the
bottom of the hill I looked up at the steep slope and I thought I was going to die if I
went down that hill. Getting on the lift was not as difficult as I thought, I jusr sat
down and slid my board off the hill. The anticipation was building going up the hill,
because the lift kept stopping, making the ride even longer. I started out really
well, Sliding down the hill is a ziz zag formation. Then I made my first big mistake. I
was feeling a little more confident in my skills and decided to go a little faster. Once
I decided to do this my snowboard went over a patch of ice. The board slipped out

Tootsie Roll Case Study Essay
1. Strategy Assessment
Tootsie Roll s simple strategy is to be (and remain) a top quality producer and
distributor of Tootsie Rolls and other candy products, in an industry where it
currently has 2 to 3 percent of market share. Specifically, the company has
determined to specialize, almost entirely, in hard candies (such as Tootsie Pops and
Blow Pops) and chewy candies (such as Tootsie Roll, Frooties and Flavor Roll), and
it currently maintains a 50 percent market share in this unique segment. The success
of Tootsie Roll in the U.S. for the past 19 years is attributable to the strong consumer
awareness of the company s brand name and brand loyalty. Over time, Tootsie Roll

In addition to these objectives, some of the competitive advantages that help the
company maintain its leading position in the marketplace are highlighted in Exhibit II.
2. Key Strategic Issue
Tootsie Roll faces a number of key issues concerning its strategy. One of such
strategic issues relates to how it can maintain its marketplace success and sustain its
competitive advantages, in light of (i) the company s growth prospects in U.S. and
foreign markets, (ii) intensity of the competition, and (iii) the fact that the two key
leaders of the company are not getting any younger.
3. Options for Resolving Key Strategic Issue
To resolve this key issue, we recommend the following options:
(i)Because leadership is a key force in determining an organization s success or lack
thereof, the Gordons should consider putting a succession plan in place as soon as
possible and should start grooming the would be successor(s).
(ii)Extend Tootsie Roll s vertically integrated structure to include product packaging
facility, to be consistent with the company s current structure. This could directly
reduce costs, in addition to the time and energy saved in negotiating fixed price
contracts with packaging suppliers. Tootsie Roll would also be able to control the
production of tamper proof packaging in a manner that did not compromise its brand
image.
(iii)Rather than reduce its spending on advertising

Evolution Of Whales
This assignment will look at the fossil record of whales as an example of empirical
evidence for evolution and is inspired by the article Land living ancestors of whales
from the Berkeley: History of Evolutionary Thought resource for Module 1.
There are two extant groups of whales; odontocetes (toothed whales) and mysticetes
(baleen whales) and both share many features with all other mammals: they generate
heat and regulate their internal temperature. The females bear live young and
produce milk in mammary glands to feed them. Although they do not have hair on
their bodies some adult whales have sensory bristles around their mouths and there is
a stage when the foetus has hair.

The Dorudontids probably gave rise to the Basilosaurids and the two families of
extant cetaceans. They had similar proportions to the modern cetaceans, as shown in
figure 5, and were completely independent of freshwater.

Personal Reflective Essay Examples.pdf

  • 1. Personal Reflective Essay Examples Crafting a personal reflective essay can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. At first glance, the task seems deceptively simple – after all, who knows you better than yourself? However, delving into the intricacies of your own experiences, thoughts, and emotions requires a level of introspection that can be mentally and emotionally demanding. The difficulty arises from the need to strike a delicate balance between sharing personal insights and maintaining a coherent, well-structured essay. Reflective writing necessitates not only a thoughtful examination of one's own experiences but also the ability to articulate those reflections in a way that engages the reader. It's a journey through your own thoughts and feelings, and finding the right words to convey those sentiments can be a formidable task. Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding the pitfalls of self-indulgence or excessive subjectivity. While the essay is inherently personal, it still needs to resonate with a broader audience, requiring the author to step back and evaluate the relevance and impact of their experiences on a more universal scale. Another aspect of complexity arises from the vulnerability inherent in revealing personal stories. Sharing authentic reflections may involve revisiting moments of joy, pain, or growth, and it demands a certain level of courage and self-awareness. In essence, writing a personal reflective essay requires navigating the intricacies of self- discovery, emotional expression, and effective communication. It's a process that demands time, patience, and a willingness to confront one's own vulnerabilities. In conclusion, while the task of crafting a personal reflective essay may be daunting, the potential for personal growth and the opportunity to connect with others through shared experiences make it a valuable endeavor. Similar essays and more comprehensive assistance in navigating this intricate process can be sought through platforms like HelpWriting.net. This is a real threat in a place like Pakistan where the food industry views constantly changing patterns in demand. Due to its consumer base, that is always on the look out for new and changed places to eat. Every now and then, a new cafГ© or a restaurant opens up, out of which only a few are able to successfully survive in the long run. On Zamzama alone, there are about 20 known restaurants and cafГ©s. Therefore, Nandos must concentrate its efforts on Differentiation Strategy, as that is key to survival in the Pakistani food industry (especially, in the major cities of Pakistan). • 3. The Pleasure of Drugs Essays The Pleasure of Drugs The Oxford Dictionary defines pleasure. It is a feeling of satisfaction or joy. It is enjoyment. It is a source of pleasure or gratification. It is formally a persons will or desire. Finally they define it as sensual gratification. Now if we put these all together in one sentence, pleasure is something that brings an overall feeling of satisfaction and gratification while fulfilling desires. If that doesn t sound good, what does? We have already determined that people naturally are drawn to altered states of consciousness. Its a fact that we are drawn to that which feels altered. It starts at a young age and hypothetically we realize the world of drugs and their ability to enhance normality by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drugs go hand in hand with this theory. Things that are pleasurable to people are held on to dearly. No one wants to miss something that feels good, or makes them feel better than just normal. If I could drink a glass of water and feel pleasurably numb and introspective, I would, instead of smoking pot. The only thing about that is, I can t. So when I want to really relax, I do what I remember relaxes me, and that is marijuana. Its the same anywhere you go. Introspective people who want to be outgoing in social settings drink alcohol and call it liquid courage . They enjoy the feeling of being a little looser and able to talk to people that they might not have otherwise. I could go on for days about this, but it all would come back to the same thing. People naturally seek out that which makes them happy, and happiness is often confused with pleasure. There are those who still feel that drugs are causing the demise of our society and that if we could just get everyone off drugs then the world would be peaceful and happy. What they don t understand is that the drug problem is social. It is easy to scapegoat drugs instead of looking at the internal workings of the actual problem. I found some interesting things on the Internet. In this quote a Reverend talks about Marijuana: For some, drugs are simply easier to get than alcohol. (I (Rachel) and going to interject with this, when did alcohol stop being a drug?) Some attempt to

Simple Assembly Line Balancing Problem, a hypothetical model which is picking up prevalence, can be executed in large scale manufacturing as its point is to either to diminish the workstations (SALBP 1) or decrease the process duration (SALBP 2). Several papers have been published on this, the first one being formulated as 0 1 math program by Bowman and later modified to four 0 1 formulation by Patterson and Albracht(1975). First and foremost we have to discover a range of the workstations Ei and Li with a specific end goal to relegate the undertaking i to the earliest and most recent workstation, just like as any scientific model a preprocess is done. • 6. Biocultural Analysis Of Gattaca Student Name Date Biocultural Analysis of Gattaca Movie (1997) Introduction Gattaca is an American based science fiction cinema directed by Andrew Niccol in 1997. The movie is set shortly where social class is demarcated by the genetic composition. Eugenics, which is the methodology of conceiving babies via genetic manipulation, has become the most typical process of giving birth (Niccol, 2015). Though discrimination is unlawful, the D.N.A analysis has become an ordinary procedure, and those who were naturally conceived are seen as invalids , which makes discriminated in various, for instance, resulting in being given minor jobs. Therefore, this research presents the summary, the biocultural phenomenon, and the real world implications of Gattaca (1997) movie. Media Summary The film, Gattaca (1997) is set shortly where genetically conceived babies are preferred to those that are born naturally. The main characters in this film include Vincent Jerome, Eugene, Irene, Director Josef, Detective Hugo, and Anton. Vincent Freeman is among the last children to be naturally conceived. After his birth, the physicians tell his parents of his many limitations, in particular, that his lifespan is estimated to be 30.2 years (Niccol, 2015). Vincent decides to travel to the stars. However, he is categorized by the society as not suitable regarding his genetic composition, and he has turned out to be among the discriminated humans who are only offered menial careers. To proceed with his mission, he assumes Jerome Morrow s identity since the latter had a perfect genetic composition and was paraplegic due to his involvement in a car accident. Vincent manages to deceive the urine and DNA sample testing after following a professional advice. However, his mission becomes jeopardized when his program director is murdered, and a fresh investigation is tabled. Biocultural Phenomenon In the near future, when the idea of genetic engineering is common among humans, and the DNA plays an integral part in identifying one s social class, Vincent is conceived and born naturally without the assistance of genetic engineering technologies. He suffers from the almost eliminated physical deformations of congenital heart disease and myopia, and

  • 8. Mediation Causes A Great Deal Of Impact On American Society Mediation causes a great deal of impact on American society. In the movie Gamer, characters deal with a never ending cycle of competition and become trapped in conflict. Superficial worlds collide with reality and these worlds impact every citizen in the film. A viewer watching the film may feel disgusted at the thought of being controlled as easily as characters in Gamer are, but the sad truth lies within the reality of our own, mediated world. Gamer plays on viewers pre conceived beliefs mediation causes. The common beliefs of competition making the world spin around and money buying happiness, trap us as citizens in a vicious cycle of conflict with the world around us. Gamer takes place in a near future New York City where a twisted man named Ken Castle invents a method to controlpeoples minds. Castle has developed a nano cell that replicates itself when placed on human brain cells and eventually takes over a subject,s whole mind. Castle also created two virtual worlds where citizens hire other citizens to implant nano cells and give up control of their minds. The paying citizens then obtain complete control over their employee . Society, comparable to The Sims of our world, allows for control in all aspects of life. The other world Castle creates, Slayers, contains similar qualities to our own modern day multi player shooting games like the Call of Duty or Halo series. A twist in Slayers gameplay does exist though. Instead of controlling anyone willing to give up

When T1 is not functional and there is limited activity in the upper extremity, it causes a debilitating condition called scapular winging. The muscles affected are serratus anterior, trapezius, and rhomboids. Loss of function of the Anterior Thoracic Nerves 1 would affect the antagonist muscles of Shoulder Medial Rotation (Serratus anterior, Trapezius, and Rhomboids), not the synergist muscles that create the movement (Pectoralis major, Subscapularis, Latissimus dorsi, Teres major, and Anterior deltoid). Scapular winging causes you to lose ability in lifting, pulling, carrying, and pushing heavy objects. Serratus anterior

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reasons behind the desire for ecological conservation include encouraging wildlife back into cities, making cheap use of derelict areas and maintaining a diverse species base by reintroducing locally extinct species. Work done in such areas involves planting trees (predominantly native species), dredging of ponds, and soil improvements, and will often involve local volunteers, showing the human activity catering for a natural succession in a positive light. An example of a successful ecological conservation area is that of Troopers Hill, located in southeast Bristol. The conservation of the Troopers Hill Local Nature Reserve has preserved much of the pre existing habitats of the area, consequently enabling the survival of native species and plants. The main aim of the project has been fulfilled, as a variety of different habitats have been preserved, resulting with an increase in biodiversity; including mammals such as hedgehogs and foxes, as well as more than 40 species of bird and a wide variety of insects, with around 70 species of bee, with bees being a crucial part in almost every natural succession. Another reason for the creation of such areas is due to the fact that local people want a safe environment for leisure activities and that local authorities desire to make cheap use of

  • 14. Massachusetts General Hospital Merger Case It was interesting to read about the potential merger between Brigham and Women s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) due to the increased rise in healthcare economics in the mid 1980s and early 1990s. I do agree that the vision of the Harvard Medical School dean of merging the five major hospitals to curb the healthcare costs was a good idea but definitely not an ideal idea due to the fact of how big of an idea it was. Also, it was a proposal that definitely would cause friction between the fiercely competing entities. IF that was surely done, then that would have been one impressive undertaking to see how five prominent hospitals in the region came together as one. Another interesting thing I took away from the readings was how Harvard Medical School was affiliated with almost all the hospitals whether they were private, public or community type in the region. The five hospital merger would definitely have given even a bigger leg up for Harvard Medical School than before. It does make me wonder if the dean wanted to do it more for healthcare economic crisis that was happening or to build the brand name even bigger or both. • 15. How Fashion Photography Has Changed Throughout The Years In this essay I am going to discuss how fashion photography has evolved throughout the decades. Some of the subjects I am going to discuss are; the beginnings of fashion photography, the different styles of fashion photography, and fashion magazines. Fashion photography is a genre of photography in which clothing and other material garments are photographed for the purpose of displaying in a fashion magazine or for the use in an advertisement. This style of photography has been around since the early days of photography itself, however the first fashion photographs didn t surface until 1856. Photographer Adolphe Braun took the first fashion photographs of Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione. These photographs were published into a book which contained over 200 other photographs of the Countess. Due to these photographs the Countess became the first ever fashion model. In the 1990 s printing advancements meant that photographers could include their work in magazine spreads. This allowed fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper s Bazaar (which were both founded in the 1800 s) to include photographs. These magazines were initially hand illustrated but the new developments in printing meant that fashion magazines were able to show photographs of what the clothing actually looked like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these can include catalogue/look book images, editorial images, and high fashion images. Each genre requires a different approach because they each have a specific style requirement to fulfil. For example, catalogue images need to show a set wardrobe of clothing so that the brand/company can sell more of the items, the poses that the models are in are very simple and the images are very clean cut. On the other hand, high fashion images are styled completely different. High fashion images are made to look out of the ordinary with dramatic clothing and exaggerated

I was now in charge of all incoming dogs and that meant i was allowed to feed, walk and interact with all dogs coming into the shelter. During my shift ten dogs had arrived and been placed on the floor. It was now time for me to do my part. I gathered up my clipboard and supplies and headed out, as i skimmed through the pictures of all the new dogs i couldn t help but be drawn to the picture of a beautiful labrador with the most sorrowful eyes. I had a feeling of worry that took over me and i scurried over to her gate. Much to my surprise there were no volunteers in her cage which was bizarre because volunteers loved meeting and playing with the new dogs. James Baldwin is a renowned author for bringing his experience to literature. He grew up Harlem in the 1940 s and 1950 s, a crucial point in history for America due to the escalading conflict between people of different races marked by the race riots of Harlem and Detroit. This environment that Baldwin grew up in inspires and influences him to write the narrative Notes of a Native Son, which is based on his experience with racism and the Jim Crow Laws. He was marked with an inability to establish contact with others, except perhaps with his neighborhood which he left only hostility and uncharitable asperity. (67) However, his failure in social relationships also stretched, even though to one so close as to be called family, to his son James Baldwin. This led Baldwin to hate his father for what he was. Baldwin s father was detested as much by Baldwin as his siblings. Baldwin explains: When he took one of his children on his knee to play, the child always became fretful and began to cry; when he tried to help one of us with our homework the absolutely unabating tension which emanated from him caused our minds and our tongues to become paralyzed, so that he, scarcely knowing why, flew into a rage and the child, not knowing why, was punished. (65) It would seem that this man was a failure as a father. This passage, coming from the father s son, would undoubtedly have experienced this first hand. While using words such as us and our, Baldwin evokes an image of the pain him and his siblings went through. His presence was enough to paralyze a child when trying to help it with homework. When trying to comfort a child by playing with it, he only vexed the child further, causing it to cry. Baldwin depicts

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), on one of the most popular prom nights in 1999, as many as 62 percent of the traffic deaths were alcohol related (). Many teenagers around the US find this law biased, because teens aren t given enough credit for how responsible they can be. In Northern Europe, people see alcohol as a culture issue. In many countries it is traditional to have a glass of wine or two during each meal. The drinking age in other countries vary but the normal legal age is between 16 18 years of age. John has been exposed to his mother s inappropriate relationship with alcohol since before he was born. In the age old debate of nature vs. nurture, some would say it was merely natural for John to follow his mother s path, a la the apple does not fall far from the tree his addiction was inherited. Others would argue that John s childhood experiences and home environment led him on the road to addiction. Many might question whether John would have fared better if he had been raised elsewhere. While John may have been a victim of circumstance or fate, a completely different angle can be considered. Perhaps John s alcoholism is a genetic result a result that was influenced by his unfortunate environmental factors. In other words, John inherited his nature via his nurture. The positions surrounding the explanation of John s outcome have been debated for centuries by ordinary people, philosophers, geneticists and psychologists. With recent advancements, a second genome has been recognized and established as the epigenome, which is directly influenced by the outside environment (Francis). While extreme positions still exist within the nature vs. nurture debate, most scientists now agree that a combination of the two determines one s outcome; with the burgeoning field of epigenetics, however, the ability to overcome one s genes, to some extent, ends the debate and offers hope that can be viewed as American

Every couple of months a new haunted house movie comes out, and since the start of AMC s The Walking Dead, zombies have not even taken a break. Even considering how popular zombies are now, there is one type of creature that we will always be plagued with; the vampire. Just in the 21st century we have had dozens of vampire based movies and shows: Van Helsing, Blade, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, True Blood, no matter the genre directors always find some way to add vampires to it. During this time, most people believed that neither women nor racial African Americans should have jobs when many white men struggled to find decent jobs to support their families. Opposers argue that since 65 percent of the African American workforce was excluded from the initial Social Security program , then the New Deal was racist by choosing to treat African Americans unfairly (Brad Plumer, The Washington Post, A Second Look at Social Securities Racist Origins, June 13, 2013). Roosevelt is also blamed for not creating laws to protect African Americans from lynching, since most caucasians believed that all white men should have jobs before any African American did. They believe that the New Deal failed because it made no effort to treat women as equals to men in the workplace by not paying them the same wages as men. They argue that the New Deal did nothing to fix these social issues that arose during the Great Depression, but they are mistaken. Roosevelt did not ignore the issue of racism and lynching caused by the Great Depression, as shown in an article from PBS by Richard Wormser titled Jim Crow Stories that states, Roosevelt began to publicly speak out against lynching and granted influential black leaders such as Mary McLeod Bethune access to the White House; these
  • 36. Evil In The Bell Jar Evil can be defined as being profoundly immoral and wicked (Oxford Dictionaries, 2017). In my texts, evil is displayed in many forms. In Disgrace, David Lurie s evil is caused by his distorted viewpoints and in The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, all three cases are as a result of poverty. In The Bell Jar, Esther s evilsuicidal attempts are caused by her narcissistic insanity; in The Crow, evil is an offset of Eric s traumatic experience and need for revenge; and in Fargo, evil arises as a result of bullying. Each character mentioned provides a different way of expressing the evil within them. The above definition gives us a basis in determining what research has revealed as evil s two root causes. David sees her merely as a beautiful object that he can make use of by stating that her beauty does not belong to her alone (Coetzee, 2009). She is a 2D persona for David, resulting in their sex being lengthy, abstract and rather dry (Coetzee, 2009) and Soraya avoids David as soon as he begins to pry into her personal life. Melanie Isaacs, on the other hand, is not a prostitute but a student of David s, who attracts David due to her purity and looks. David is unable to admit that he raped Melanie, trying to justify his actions by saying that she does not resist (Coetzee, 2009) and that he is merely acting as a servant of Eros (Coetzee, 2009). We are able to see how evil David is in the way that he never feels shame for his wrongdoings, despite being disgraced (publically shamed and being dismissed by the university). David claims that he was enriched by the experience (Coetzee, 2009) of raping Melanie and in court says I have said the words to you (Coetzee, 2009) showing the futility of the apology. The root of David s evilness is not deeply explored in the novel, but can be linked to his skewed mindset that women were made as an appendage to man and to be used by man. David s deep passion for poetry of the Romantic Era, has led him to want to follow in the footsteps of his role model, Byron, who was known to have been a womanizer, having
  • 37. The City By Armistead Maupin The San Francisco of the 1970s is a city immersed in the counterculture movement: It encouraged experimentation and tolerance for unconventional behavior, vices and eccentric politics. The culture rejected the principles of mainstream society and espoused living for one s self. This philosophy of life attracted people from all over the United States to travel westwards to San Francisco. The promise of the counterculture fascinated people who were not satisfied with their current lifestyles. They came to the city in the hopes of reinventing themselves. Individuals sought to scape their past routines, to get away from the people and societies that burdened them. In the bohemian city, they aspired to find a place to belong. The characters in Tales of the City, by Armistead Maupin, convey these desires and frustrations in members of all social classes. The novel reveals the consequences that come with reinvention. As portrayed by Maupin, San Francisco signifies both a chance for liberation, and a life beset by secrets, whereby individuals are often haunted by their pasts. San Francisco s culture allows for greater freedom, in part due to its sexual and gay liberation. In the midst of the counterculture and the hippie movement, San Francisco becomes a city that is more accepting of queer, unconventional behavior. Gays and lesbians come with the hope to live openly as homosexuals. Michael Tolliver exemplifies this desire. He is a young gay man who leaves Florida and his family

Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of the creation myths is much greater than a primitive attempt to explain the mysteries of creation. Behind each creation myth is a vast variety of symbolism along with a number of motives which are often shared between cultures, despite vast geographical differences. We now see these theories as inaccurate, due to the fact that they have been replaced by newer scientific models. In a modern light, it can be stated that creation myths describe not the origin of our cosmos but rather these myths allow us to gain a broader understanding of ancient theories and beliefs. During the time of their invention however, these myths were precisely an honest interpretation of the outer world, and therefore they served the exact purpose which is stated in their title, to explain the process of creation. A technique that is used in many creation myths can be referred to as creation from above. In this method of narration, the creator often creates a replica of earth within the heavens, and somehow recreates this image in the abyss below. An example of this can originally be found in Kund Rasmussen s collection of Eskimo myths. In this story a being called Tulungersaq, or Father Raven is born in the heavens. He initially takes the form of a human being and is entirely unaware of how he came into existence. He is in complete darkness and it is through his sense of touch that he becomes aware of his surroundings. He goes on to bury something beneath the earth and soon after he discovers that the earth is no longer sterile, it is now covered in bushes and grass. Tulungersaq is still

Based off the idea that construction workers enjoyed dunking their donuts in coffee, the company has thrived as a straight forward good quality company. Since the time that the company was founded it has grown to include the Baskin Robbins franchises as well as grown to over 8 billion US dollars in annual revenue. While the company served both coffee and donuts for the majority of its existence the focus of the company was strictly donuts until 2003 when the company rebranded itself to compete directly with Starbucks as a leading coffee shop. One notable flashback was the scene illustrating the moment Richard shot Frank. They were sitting on the living room floor...Frank sitting on the couch, and Mary Ann just returning from the kitchen with a tray of sandwiches. • 54. Evolution Of Whales This assignment will look at the fossil record of whales as an example of empirical evidence for evolution and is inspired by the article Land living ancestors of whales from the Berkeley: History of Evolutionary Thought resource for Module 1. There are two extant groups of whales; odontocetes (toothed whales) and mysticetes (baleen whales) and both share many features with all other mammals: they generate heat and regulate their internal temperature.
