3. • As you can see that although my front cover
isn’t as full and as busy as the magazine that is
already on the market, that doesn’t mean to
say that it differs completely just because of
its first visual qualities.
• I think that although they are extremely
contrasting to one another, they still hold the
same codes and conventions that a pop genre
magazine would have.
4. Font
• For example the font: As you can see the
difference isn’t all that different, both fonts
are bold, eye catching and effective. They are
easy to read and very large within the page. I
think this is a strong element which isn’t just
used throughout all magazines but particularly
pop genre music magazines, because of it’s
target audience and to entice them into
buying the product and making it stand out on
the shelf.
5. Colour
• Colours are also similar, a running house style
colour has been used throughout the front
cover and also into the pages of the magazine.
This provides spontaneity to the product,
something that after speaking to my target
audience they said that they liked, because it
provided an easy way of navigating through
the magazine. More than likely again
something that all magazines of this type use
because it is a popular feature.
6. Image
• Again I think I have produced something that works
around the codes and conventions of a teen pop music
magazine, mainly because of the model. I have used
the same camera shot (a mid shot) with eye contact,
engaging directly with the camera, as if looking straight
at its target audience/fans. The image, similarly to the
one already in the shops, has the model with no props
and in very casual, light and not celebrity clothing. This
again is something that appeals to the type of
audience, because they can then find it easy to copy
certain models styles and people of whom they idolise.
7. Coverlines
• The coverlines, like the produced magazine
take up the majority of the magazine, perhaps
not as much as the mainstream magazine but
still a lot of the page.
• Even though my product has a lot more
empty/white space around the elements on
the front cover, I don’t think that takes away
from the genre that is being portrayed and put
forward within the industry.
8. • As you can see, that although both these
products look different in their appearance,
the elements used are very coherent and work
along the same principles, allowing both
products to put forward the same message
and social group of the ‘pop’ genre.
