In order for each element of the task to come across as relevant to the genre as well as conforming to audience expectation it was crucial for
audience feedback to be driven by our initial ideas as therefore we could build on this through audience feedback. The use of audience feedback
guided by ideas specifically to the genre and aesthetic importance of the ancillary tasks.
After each stage of my planning and editing towards the overall completion of the ancillary tasks, I ensured I received ranged feedback from my
target audience in order to ensure effectiveness of the images and its overall success.
Once I had created the first draft of both the digipak and the magazine poster I received peer feedback in order to understand what was vital for
me to change in order to conform to genre expectation as well as relevant conventions that would be recognisable to audience members.

I produced a number of drafts for my magazine
poster. Initially I took inspiration from existing
indie genre posters in order to conform to the
conventions of the genre. This allowed for an
initial understanding of the requirements of my
text.
Once I had produced a draft
inspired by my initial research I
utilised my peers as members of
my target audience in aim to
receive specific feedback that
would allow me to understand
what needed to be changed in
order to become more specific to
the genre as well as aesthetically
professional and conforming to
audience expectation.
From my initial draft of the magazine poster, it was brought to my attention that the images weren’t as effective as they could
be for a professional look. However, it was also brought to my attention that the use of the lights was an effective way of
linking to the branding of the band, ‘Your Illuminations’.

From research of existing digipaks
I formulated a number of initial
ideas and from this asked a
number of peers what they
thought was effective and any
potential alterations I could make
to improve it.
From my first draft I received the feedback that the images
weren’t consistent to one another which therefore limited the
effectiveness of the overall product. This therefore led to be
altering the colouring of the images. However, this was then
believed to be too basic which is when I decided to shoot a
number of new images for the digipak following further research
and this audience feedback.
The use of
these new
images came
from my own
further
research of
digipaks and
cultural codes
following
audience
feedback I had
received. It was
brought to my
attention that
indie artists
commonly
focus on their
culture and the
area in which
they are from
such as bands
like ‘The 1975’,
which inspired
my choices.
The importance of a
striking image on the
front cover of the
digipak was also
addressed in
audience feedback,
which is where my
research of albums
from artists such as
‘Vampire Weekend’
who utilise imagery of
individual faces to
show a unique
aesthetic.

5. How did Audience Feedback influence the outcome of my
Ancillary Tasks?
However, feedback received about this
showed that the images were too
chaotic as they failed to distinctly link
to one another which therefore
enabled the lacking of professionalism
for the overall aesthetic of the product.
Once I had researched digipaks within the indie
genre, I focused on developing a number of initial
ideas for my own product. I then completed a draft
idea that focused on the artist themselves through
the use of a Polaroid style inside cover as seen with
‘Circa Waves’.
However, further feedback I received led
me to go back to researching new ideas
as the lacking in colour limited the
availability for a unique aesthetic and
individuality of brand identity. Therefore,
I aimed to focus on the idea of the lights,
as audience members had stated their
appeal for the link to ‘Your Illuminations’.
Therefore, once I had received this
feedback I decided to limit the
range of images and utilise black
and white filters as well as low key
lighting in order for it to conform
to the conventions of the indie
genre, as seen with ‘The 1975’.
