What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
• Throughout the production of my product I
have received feedback from both members
of my target audience and from my teachers.
This feedback has been mostly preferences of
my target audience and advice from my
teacher.
Research & Planning – Pitch feedback
• I presented my initial project concepts to my class (which included members of my target audience) and
teacher at the beginning of the year.
• In response they were asked to give feedback on their impression on my idea.
The post it notes display feedback from my peers, this feedback told me that the initial idea for my video
and supporting ancillary tasks were well received
• A lot of my audience members commented on their liking of my song choice as well the concept of the
projected images. This feedback made me think about how I could utilise these elements such as
beginning to plan the logistics of the projection by using acetate and a projector
• The feedback I received from my teacher made me consider more specific micro elements of my music
video such as lighting etc. This led me to consider things like location and specific times to film and how
important it was to plan before I moved ahead with creating anything.
After this
feedback I
began t o plan
the projection
scene in detail
Research & Planning- Surveys
• Before creating any of my products I created surveys
that asked my target audience which conventions they
would prioritise and enjoy the most to see in the
products I was creating.
• From my feedback I learnt specific things about my
audience this included:
• Preferring a darker colour palette on ancillary tasks
• Name other singles that feature on album
• Image should be most striking element of poster
• The outfit the artist was wearing in her promotional
pieces was important to them
Research & Planning- Focus Group
To achieve even more personal and elaborated feedback and therefore use this
understanding of my audience in the creation of my products, I held a focus group with
two members of my target audience. This feedback reinforced conventions that had been
preferred in the survey results such as the importance of the styling of the artists, the
inclusion of advertising singles that feature on the poster.
However, this feedback gave me specific insight into why features were important to my
audience such as when I ask about the importance of styling the artist one member of the
group stated that it was important that the artist was dressed unthreateningly and
relatable. From this I took on that to appeal to my target audience it was important to style
the artist as if she was just like them, but in a glamorous way. I learned that I should avoid
over sexualisation which is a popular style with such musicians such as Rihanna etc.
Non threatening.
Artist not wearing
revealing clothing but is
still eye catching through
sequined skirt
Research & Planning- Twitter
• After the importance of the artists clothing had been
highlighted to me in two aspects of my research I felt it was
important to get the choice of clothing correct so that it was
appealing to my audience members.
• I chose to use social media site Twitter to ask members of my
target audience to vote which costume should be used in the
photos and then used their choice in my final piece
First draft feedback
First draft feedback continued...
After I had constructed my first draft of my three products I asked
members of my target audience to say two things they liked about
the products and one area for improvement.
This feedback helped me realise what the strong points of work
were and what I needed to go back and improve to better appeal to
my audience.
Strong points:
Photo used of the artist on ancillary task
Lighting of ancillary tasks
Use of transition effects (fades to white, dissolves)
Areas for improvement:
Include more projection scenes
Changes I made accordingly:
I extended the miming shots that included the projected image to
run twice during the video, over two choruses whereas initially it
had only been featured over one
First draft Twitter feedback
After creating my first draft I took to Twitter again to ask my target
audience to highlight specific elements of my ancillary feedback as in
the feedback I received from class the areas for improvement mainly
applied to my video.
In this feedback my audience members stated the things they believed
to be strong about the pieces as well as highlighting issues they had.
After this feedback I went back and reviewed the parts of the product
they had specifically called fault with such as the bottom of my digipack
which was described as looking a little busy.
Overall my audience feedback helped me understand them
better. This included their preferences and opinions towards
conventions. This understanding helped shape my final
products as I attempted to create something that would
appeal to them as much as possible.
I made sure that in the research and planning stages I
gathered as much research as possible so I could go into the
creation staged with a clear idea of what it was that was
preferred and prioritised by my audience members.
Keeping the feedback going throughout the construction of
my products ensured that I kept on track with what they
wanted to see and received quick feedback on what they did
not like to see and so could immediately amend these faults.
