3. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or change forms and conventions of
real media products?
 My media product is the front cover, contents page and double page spread of an
Indie Rock music magazine.
 The front cover is conventional as the masthead is in the top left corner of the
page as this is how most established Indie Rock music magazines feature the
masthead. ‘Q’ is an example of an indie rock music magazine and in all issues the
masthead is in the top left corner.
 The positioning of the cover lines on my front cover are conventional as they are
around the image of my artist and this is so that nothing is over the top of the
image which will cause distractions. In the ‘Q’ magazine featuring Amy Winehouse,
the cover lines are also all around the image.

4. House Style
 The three pages of my music magazine clearly show the house style among my
magazine is white, black and red. Also on all three pages the background has a
grey gradient and this is also a part of the house style.
 The ‘Q’ magazine on the right is an indie rock magazine and shows that the house
style is red, white and black.
 On both ‘Q’s’ magazine and my magazine the cover story is in a big, bold, white
font and this is to make it stand out over the other text on the page.

5. Page Layout – Front cover
 The page layout of my front cover is similar to that of an established indie rock
music magazine in the layout.
 The masthead is in the top left corner of the page and this is because of the route
of the eye, and the route of the eye is shown by the yellow Z on my magazine
cover. The route of the eye is first drawn to the top left corner and this is the
reason as to why the masthead is in that position. The image of my artist is in the
middle of the page as the route of the eye then follows through the image.
 The cover lines are on the left hand side of the cover as the way magazines are
often stacked in stores is with the left side being shown and if the cover lines are
interesting then this will appeal to the target audience.

6. Page Layout – Contents page
 The layout of my contents page is similar to ‘Q’s contents page as the contents listing
is on the left hand side of the page in a column.
 On both pages there is also a dark bar across the front of the page with a small logo,
the word contents and the issue number and date.
 There is also a main large image of an artist on the right hand side opposite the list
of contents. The image is labelled with a large box on who the artist is, what page
number they are on and a short description of the article.
 There is also a small section on the bottom right that has an image and more
contents listings, and this is done so that there is a gap when reading the contents
listing.

7. Page Layout – Double page spread
 The layout of my double page spread is similar to a leading indie rock
magazine double page spread as the image of the artist is on the left hand
side of the page.
 With the image on the left hand side this means that on the right side of
the double page spread is the article.
 On the top right corner of the page the artist name is featured so that the
audience know exactly who the artist is.
