Evaluation Question 7 - Looking back
at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression
from it to the main task?
Front Cover Comparison
This is my print prelim front cover and
my final product front cover. Looking
back on it I am able to recognise the
significant differences between my
current product and my print prelim
product. The main difference is the
colour scheme: In my print prelim I
decided to use a colour scheme that I
personally preferred to most where as
in my current product I used a colour
scheme that I found to suit my
audience most after some primary
research. This proves that my skills
have developed since the prelim task
due to my main product having a
mature look about it rather than a
bright green, immature look. Also in
my print prelim I did no research into
costumes so after doing so in my
primary and secondary research there
is a more clear similarity between my
final product and a professional
product.
Contents Page
Comparison
This is my print prelim contents page
and looking back on it in comparison
to my current contents page I am able
identify differences. Some of them
being the colour scheme, the contents
page is mainly bright green in the
print prelim but in the my main
products contents page the colour
scheme is black and red which looks
less striking and more neutral. This is
an indication of my skills improving
due to the research I conducted
meaning I took influence from a
professional magazine and using key
features in my own.
Flat Plans
• Looking at my two front cover flat plans, I am able to identify differences in designs due to my print prelim
having a photo of a single model close up, after conducting research for my main product I found that
most of the magazines with a similar genre to mine have either one of two models at a far distance, this is
to show readers what the models are wearing which influences the mood and tone of the magazine
article. This shows my development in designing because I have been able to strategically place models
similar to that of a professional product. You can also tell that my skills with hardware and software has
improved due to research and practice.
• Looking at my two content pages, the main difference between my prelim and my final product is the
layout of it, the prelim has a strange look to it but the final product looks “normal” and professional. I was
able to do this because of the research I conducted, I was able to identify what my targeted genre uses as
a layout. An example of my development is through my experience with software, due to becoming
skilled with InDesign I was able to design an easy to navigate layout along with it maintaining a
professional look, similar to that of magazines such as “NME” or “Kerrang!”
