1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. •During the construction, research and planning of my
research I used a variety of technologies that all
individually assisted me in completing my newspaper
along the way.
3. WordPress
• WordPress is a website in which I created my coursework blog. On this I would upload my
progress, action shots, photos I was using for my newspaper, my research, my planning, my
changes and issues and so on. I used this blog website as I was familiar with it from my AS Media
coursework, it is also very easy to navigate and use. The work I uploaded to my blog is all in order
from research, to analysis of research, to planning, to ideas, to construction, to finished product.
4. Microsoft Publisher
• I used Microsoft Publisher to create my newspaper on as it provided me with the tools I needed
and also allowed me to a double page spread very easily. I was always going back and forth from
this technology from the day I began putting the my layout for my print, from then on I began
adding, pictures, articles, text and so on.
• I also made a variety of changes to my newspaper through this program, for example, I altered
the layout a numerous amount of times to fit what I wanted, I changed the articles I was going to
use and I also decreased the amount of advertisements I was having in my print.
5. Audacity and Soundcloud
• Audacity is one of the only available music editing software’s in my school and I am experienced
with it, this is why I used it. The reason I used this software was top edit the sound and crop out
sound from my radio advertisement that I have uploaded to my blog.
• I uploaded the finished soundtrack to Soundcloud, an online music streaming website available
and free to everyone. I used this website as like other things I have mentioned, I am familiar with
it and it is a very good and easy to use website. The link to my radio ad is on my blog.
6. Microsoft Word
• I used Microsoft Word to draft my rough articles that I was going to put in to my final print. The
reason I used this software is because I have been familiar with It from primary school. I knew
how to use it on an advanced level and it was easy to transfer finished drafts in to publisher. Using
Microsoft word also allowed me to properly spell check my articles in order for them to be 100%
grammatically correct.
7. Microsoft PowerPoint
I used Microsoft Powerpoint all throughout the production of my course, including analysis of
existing newspapers. The reason I used this software is because it allowed me to put pictures in to
continuous slides and analyse each picture one by one instead of having them all on one page. I am
also using PowerPoint to complete this evaluation question.
8. Slideshare
• Slideshare is similar to PowerPoint but it is an online version and is not made by Microsoft. It
allows people to upload PowerPoints online in the same slide format as a Powerpoint. I used this
website various times during my coursework including to analyse newspaper front pages. I used
this website as I am familiar with it from AS Media and it is easy to add to my blog.
9. Prezi
• Prezi is another online presentation website, similar to Slideshare and PowerPoint but allows the
user to be more creative. I used this website to present my first evaluation question as I thought it
would be good to present all questions in different ways and using different programs or
websites. Like other websites I have mentioned, I am familiar with and like the layout and controls
of Prezi, hence why I used it, it is also very neat and organized when it comes to reading it.
10. Google Images
• I didn’t use google images as much as other websites and programs during my coursework as
most pictures I used were taken by myself in and around my local area. When I did need a picture
to use however, I would use google images to find an appropriate image. It was very useful when I
did need it and I knew how to find the image I wanted very easily.
11. Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet software usually used to input data in to, which I did use it for.
During my research I did a content analysis of a newspaper to get an idea of the amount of
different types of stories are in a local tabloid. I put the data I collected in to a spreadsheet using
Excel which helped me to decide on the amount of ads, stories, pictures and so on, I should have
in my own newspaper.
12. iPhone 5
• To take pictures for my articles I used my iPhone, as I have it on me 24/7 and the pictures are of
very good quality. Using my iPhone also allowed me to be optimistic with my pictures, as I could
take pictures anytime I wanted if I felt it would be a good or appropriate picture for a specific
article. All pictures that I took myself were captured on my iPhone.
13. Adobe Fireworks
• I used Adobe Fireworks to save all of my print screens and screenshots through.
14. Easi Speak Microphone
• To record my radio advertisement I used an Easi Speak microphone, as they were the only on
hand available sound recording piece of equipment that would provide a recording in good
enough quality for a radio ad. I also was familiar with how to use these microphones.
15. • Throughout the research, planning, ideas, construction, production
and evaluation of my coursework I used a variety of software's,
websites, technologies and pieces of equipment that I was familiar
with and comfortable using to produce the best possible outcome.
