1. Evaluation 4
How did you use new media technology
in construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages
2. The importance of research and
planning
Having little knowledge as a group on how to construct the task of making a
accurate music video and using new software's, we made sure that the research
and planning was the most important aspect for us to create a efficient music
video. To help gather the knowledge and information that was required, we used to
search engine Google enabling us to explore specific information benefiting our
knowledge for the final product being created. We were determined from the start
that the genre Hip-hop is what we wanted to focus on so we looked into a wide
variety of music videos on the video sharing website YouTube. When exploring into
different hip-hop artist music videos we were attracted to the artist Travis Scott due
to his tone of music and eccentric music videos. To get a feel for the artists persona
and what elements was put into his music videos we took closer details of his
clothing, style, props and general atmosphere.
Furthermore as a group we wanted to study the genre of hip-hop, looking into the
important codes and conventions relating to the genre. By using the search tool
Google and other similar music videos, we was able to create a mind map of the
important aspects of a hip-hop music video and how we could convert them into
our own music video making it fit the genre. When finalising a song from Travis
Scott we listened to many of his different album songs and independent songs
through Soundcloud and Youtube. Originally for opted for the song Butterfly effect
which related to him singing about a love interest, however we felt the song didn't’t
suit the style of the music video we wanted to create so we changed the song to
Blue Pill which was about the journey on being high off drugs.
3. Pen and paper
This was important to jot down any
spontaneous information and simply to
write down anything and everything.
In particular we wrote down information
about the genre, as well as creating mind
maps of the creative ideas we had for the
music videos.
Furthermore we had a checklist which we
was able to tick off any component that was
completed and assign different post and
make notes on ones that needed to be
complete.
Computer
Another important device is the computer,
which during the process meant we could
access the internet and all the software
needed to make media rich post.
It helped us create post and presentations,
edit our music video, download and send
our clips and research any information
required. Importantly it gave us software
to create our blog. The computer played a
important part in developing and creating
the music video and abled us to explore
and have the knowledge needed to create
our final product.

4. Different software's
• Google – The search engine were we was able to gather all the relevant information needed and also gave
us access to the other software sites.
• Instagram - The social media platform instagram abled us to create a relationship with our audience.
through creating short teaser clips and behind the scene access footage, this gave our audience a
oppounity to give us feedback on our music video.
• Youtube - The video sharing website was effective when sharing and uploading footage and clips on our
music video to which was embedded onto our blog. it also helped the development of our music video
progress and shared our journey of how we got the final product.
• Blogger
• Slideshare – We used this software to place our power point documents which embedded the document
easily onto our blog
• Piktochart – This was used to creating presentations which we could add videos and pictures onto, making
it more visually interesting
• Blogger
• Wikipedia – We used this site when researching into the artist and the song chosen, helping our
understanding of the genre we needed to know for creating the music video.
• Calameo – This software enabled us the present our information and work in a interesting way
5. Examples of how we used the
software
We used YouTube to
research different music
videos, for exampled we
used it to explore Travis
Scott music videos and
other hip-hop music
videos.
For slide share we used it to
create our risk assessment
and other key information to
present about the genre of
hip-hop. It was a effective and
quick way to upload power
points.
On Piktochart we was
able to create a
presentations for
example how to use
the props safely and
information such as
drug and alcohol
safety
Blogger was used to
collect, gather and
share all our posts.
We could edit the
background and
create it in the style
of our music video. As
well we could caption
our post and put it in
the correct timeline
frame
6. Construction and ancillary
• Before making and producing our digipak and posters, we needed to research in
depth knowledge into details on how to construct both of these. Our theme was
clear and it was important to keep the constant theme through out our work to
make it independent and recognizable to our company. When looking into other
digipaks we found inspiration from Kanye west Graduation, which had a complete
theme on every side including the cd as well. The creative aspect was also bold
and bright attracting the audience with its funky cartoon vibe giving it a clear
theme to focus on. He used colours such as purple and orange that merged
together effectively making the images instantly stand out. What's also effective
about the covers is that it tells a story about a character and its journey in a
alternative world, making it interesting for the buyer. When creating our own
digipak we used a phone app Poxomatic photo editor which at first we was
unfamiliar with but had a YouTube tutorial video which helped explain how to use
the different features on it. Our music video had colours of blue and orange and
made reference to flames, so we took this idea and used it as a start for our
digipak this created a reoccurring theme making the pleasing and recognisable for
the audience.
7. Post production
As a group we decided what editing software was going to be, going with two choices of
‘Imovie’ which we had access to and pervious experience on as well as Final cut pro which a
member of the group also had precious experience with. Both of these software's for
downloaded onto the I mac computer used to edit the music video which made it easier
instead of having to go through the process of downloading onto different computers.
Although using the software for our thriller, the music video was a whole new concept for
us and required us to use a lot more features and skills.
Both Imovie and Final cut pro was a free software and included the elements we needed
when creating the music video, however imovie was restricting when wanting certain
editing transitions and when wanting to add text over the image, it only had a few basic
fonts that didn’t fit the theme. Both software's enabled us to download the music which
came out in a timeline style so we could we could work out the tempo changes and sync it
to the cuts of the videos. In comparison final cut pro offered a better Variety of editing
styles, although a lot more complicated it made the visual effects more advance. By having
the knowledge when using the features on the software's it meant we could out of
attention onto the editing and shots instead of trying to figure out what feature does what,
making the process quicker and more detailed.
8. Creativity
• The element we wanted to make the most important with our music video was the
creativity aspect and making it eye catching and memorable for the audience. We
wanted our post to be media rich using stylistic effects and features to achieve
this, to show off our maximum creativity as a group. The construction of the music
video has many creative ideas which we felt was key when helping the narrative of
the story of a LSD trip. This meant that colours were more intense and the editing
of the videos such as the pace altered either slower and faster to mimic the effects
of the drugs taking place. What was also a effective element was adding
hallucination effects making the images become artificial and distorted. To achieve
this was experimented with impaired time perception, colours and lighting to fit
the purpose. We used another idea of using the projector and white screen to
have moving images and videos in the background while the main character would
stand in front. This made it more realistic in comparison to if we edited the video
in the background which made the original clip fade more into the background.
Overall compared to last year, we was able to take a more creative risk and have
complete freedom in what we wanted to create for our final product.
