2. Why we used Audience Feedback
Over the course of our a2 course work we decided that it would be useful to get lots of
audience feedback as we thought it would be very important as the audience have an
important role in the making of all the products, as it would increase sales of products
if they appeal to the target audience . from the feedback that we received we wanted
to make sure that we would create products that the target audience would enjoy. W
needed to make sure that we got the results of who are target audience were, primary
and secondary. To gain the feedback we asked constantly for feedback from our peers
over the course, we created a survey and we asked our audience members question
regarding what they expected to see in the indie genre.
3. Primary and secondary audience
Through the process we discovered the target audience which were males in their
late teens to early twenties. The reason that our primary target audience are males
due to the things that the genre normally sing about which are sex, drugs and for the
males of the genre about girls and as we are using a male for our artist we were not
surprised that we would have a male primary audience. For our secondary we were
not surprised that it was females of the same age as girls do like the indie genre. Our
target audience would also use web 2.0 a lot as we are part of the generation where
we use the internet for everything, so we nee to make all of our products accessible
on social media and the internet in general
4. Developing feedback- music
videoWith the video we asked what they thought of the concept of having a boy and girl
having a break up or problems in their relationship along with the fact that the male
would also be have some alcohol problems. When asked if there was anything we could
work on we were told that we needed to add more performance shots into the video,
this was to make sure that it looks like a music video and less like a video with music over
the top. We booked some time out in the studio at college and made sure that we could
put in some part of our actor who is also our artist, playing his guitar and also singing to
the song.
5. Developing feedback-Webpage
With the webpage they said that we should add more contacts to the artist such as
Facebook, as they said that they would want to be able to contact the artist when
ever they could and have as many ways as possible to do so.They liked the layout of
the page and they said it had a good amount of focus on the artist as a musician and
less as a celebrity.Though this we decided which pieces to keep in for the first draft
and the final product such as the social networking feed for twitter at the side of the
page, and also the fact that there were a lot of picture involved
6. Developing feedback- Digipak
The DigiPak was also received well as they thought that the colour scheme was
good but also the way it was set was good as it had enough pictures and writing on
each section but not too much writing. We decided at this point to make the
diamonds, that we had used when we asking what the audiences favourite colour
scheme was, something that we would use and have running throughout the three
products as an easy brand identity and house style so the audience would
recognise it.
7. Acting on feedback- music video
With the music video we saw that the audience wanted a mixture of narrative and
performance throughout it. In the survey I also asked in the video if they wanted it to
have a message as in Indie Rock videos there is normally a message on which it focuses
on things such as alcoholism and drugs, the response what they wanted the video to
focus on a broken relationship, which we took on board. When filming and editing we
had some feedback from peers and also the actors we were using.Whilst editing we
found out that the our peers thought although that they liked the idea that the video
was all very dark, they thought it was too dark lighting wise and they couldn’t see the
actors clearly, so we scheduled to re film with more varied shots with more lighting so
we could still use some of the shots that we had got before. Our peers also commented
how they wanted to see more performance shots, we had some in the video but we
needed more so we made sure that there were plenty of shots of his performance and
from different angles.
8. Acting on feedback- webpage
• With the webpage which I focused on, we received some feedback on the
webpage draft with it saying that it needed to have more of a house style running
throughout the products and the webpage needs to link with the other products
so there is a clear brand identity. So I looked at the colour scheme that the
audience had also chosen and I looked how I could put it in the webpage but have
it subtly and not too in the audiences face. I also used more of the photos we took
as a group so then it could link with the DigiPak.With the layout my peers
thought it was a bit too crowded and too childish for the genre that we had
chosen. From then on I started the webpage again and made it easier to
manoeuvre around the page. I also made sure that the social networking site such
as twitter and Facebook, but also things such as Spotify and sound cloud so the
audience has a way of listening to the artists music from the webpage.
9. Acting on feedback
With the DigiPak we were told that we needed to link the video and the digipak
together so we worked on how we could do that. We added more pictures that linked to
the webpage. On the digipak we have a photo of some broken glass and we linked that
to the video by having a smashed glass in the video which links to our original idea
which we got good feedback about regarding the alcohol addiction. With the glass I also
put it in the background of the webpage which when I asked for some feedback people
seemed to like the darkness of the page as well as the clear link between the other two
products.
10. Conclusion
Over all the information and feedback we go from the audience was very useful and it
impacted how we put all our products. The colour scheme, which has become a huge
part of all three products especially the digipak and webpage, it was chosen by the
audience so they had a huge impact, the audience helped us see that the Indie rock
genre’s colour scheme doesn’t have to e just black and white like the artist that we
looked at had as theirs, as the Arctic Monkeys webpage is only in black and white. The
audience also helped us make the changes needed throughout the process so that we
were making products that would appeal to the target audience
