successful psychological thrillers such as…
How our video links to Paramount….
• As seen on the previous slide, Paramount pictures are well
known for producing psychological thrillers such as ‘The lovely
bones’ and ‘The loved ones’. Our first idea originated from the
film ‘the lovely bones’ as we planned to create a scenario in
which a girl has been killed, and her sister seeks to find revenge.
However, due to a discussion on difficulty of filming we changed
our storyline. The alternate storyline shows a girl kidnapping
her sister in a jealous psychotic attempt to scare and torture her.
The inspiration for a second storyline came from the film ‘The
loved ones’ and from this we decided to put larger psychotic
nature to the antagonist. As our videos show similarities to the
films already produced by paramount, but are not the exact
same, it is reasonable to assume that Paramount would be a
company that may distribute our film.
Example of a low budget success: ‘Psycho’
Although the film ‘psycho’ is classed as an American horror, it
clearly has a psychotic edge to it. As well as this it shows as one of
the major success for paramount. With a budget of only $800,000
and a box office gross of $60,000,000, ‘Psycho’ is a perfect example
that with paramount's distribution, a psychological thriller can be
highly successful. Paramount advertised the film in many different
countries and adapted things such as posters to do so:
• Although Paramount has gained success through many of their
much loved big budget films such as ‘Iron man’ and
‘Transformers’, it has gained recognition for its success in
various low budget movies.
• Paramount pictures is the institution that is responsible for the
success of the major low budget hit ‘Paranormal activity’ and
since then have begun a scheme to give a company called
‘Insurge’ 1 million pounds to make 10 films. This proves that
Paramount are willing to make risks by producing and
distributing low budget movies, therefore making it the perfect
institution to present our video to.
• Because of this I believe that out film is likely to be a success, as
it poses an interesting storyline and the involvement of family
may intrigue our audience. From our audience research we were
able to conclude that it is in fact psychological thrillers that
prove popular with the age group of 15+ and as our film fits into
this genre it is fair to conclude that it would have a high chance
of success if distributed effectively.
