2. Why would you chose your chosen
company to wish to make your film?
• I believe that Annapurna pictures would wish to make
my film, primarily because they focus on low-budget
productions. Despite geographical issues of the
company being locate in California rather than the UK,
the majority of the industry in insiders are located in
Hollywood lending our small-budget film expertise we
wouldn’t necessarily have in the UK. Moreover
Annapurna would have exposure to a new market for
other potential films they are making.
3. • " Annapurna Pictures is a film production and
finance company founded with the goal of
creating sophisticated, high-quality films that
might otherwise be deemed risky by
contemporary Hollywood studios. The
company, which many consider to be a one-
stop shop for filmmakers, has provided the
industry with a critical boost of mature, adult
dramas in recent years. "
4. What other films have they made in a
similar vein to yours?
• They have created other films which are made in
a similar vein to ours; for instance Zero Dark
Thirty is a thriller film produced by Annapurna
pictures in 2012. Following our theme of solving a
mystery, in Zero Dark Thirty is based around a
‘worldwide man hunt for Osama bin Laden. This
American action thriller war film was directed by
Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal. With
a budget of $40 million it is a relatively low
budget production considering the average cost
to produce a major studio movie is around $65
million.
5. How does your film fit in the ethos of
the institution? E.g do they make low
budget films by first time directors?
• I believe that Annapurna productions is well
suited to our film with the knowledge that they
seek and succeed to create ‘sophisticated, high
quality films’. Although we have a low budget for
a film we aimed to create an opening sequence of
this nature. Also, they clearly produce adult
targeted films as they were involved in the
production of Spring Breakers and also American
hustle which both had ‘18’ ratings.
6. How would they market and make
money out of your film? E.g. ancillary
markets, DVD sales, pay per view etc.
• Considering the film has a low-budget and has a relatively young
target audience, this best method of marketing would most likely
be digital marketing, as the marketing campaign would be in-
expensive and be accessible to widespread audience specifically a
younger demographic. For instance a trailer could be upload to
video sharing websites, film accounts could be made on social
media sites e.g. Facebook and Twitter, and could also be advertised
on Annapurna Picture’s website-

• Although I don’t think the film would be appropriate for
merchandise firstly because it would not be appropriate to have
images circulating of products of criminals/psychopaths and
secondly the older adult target audience would not really want to
buy merchandise.
7. • The film could firstly be released abroad in the
US to gain critical notability for when released
later to the British market.
8. • Although the sequence would contain adult
themes the film would be appropriate for a chain
cinema and then Online streaming, Pay per view
TV and DVD release since I think it would have a
large target audience. This is because the girl the
film is based around would attract a primary
audience of mid-teens to mid-twenties
(dominantly girls due to the female protagonist),
who heavily use online services and have a
secondary audience of early twenties-mid forties
due to the investigation/mystery element.
9. Do they specialise in a particular genre
of film? E.g. Lionsgate who specialise
in relatively low budget horrors and
thrillers.
• Zero Dark Thirty, 2012- action war thriller
• Killing Them Softly, 2012- crime drama thriller
• Foxcatcher, 2014- biographical sports thriller
10. Do they target a particular audience?
E.g. Vertigo- who with the firm and
football factory clearly target a male
audience.
• Zero Dark Thirty is rated R is generally only
more suitable for a more mature audience as
it does include adult themes, similarly in our
own opening sequence there are themes of
kidnapping and gun crime. Moreover,
Annapurna pictures have provided the film
industry with ‘a critical boost of mature, adult
dramas in recent years’.
