2. Microphones were by far one of the most vital pieces
of equipment in the construction process of my
broadcast because it allowed me to record every voice
included in my radio show. The microphone was also
accompanied by a pop shield which almost acts as a
filter to filter out any impurities and plosive noises in
the recording to give the audio a clearer sound. The
microphone and pop shield meant that I could record
all the audio for the radio show with efficiency and to a
high audible quality. Additionally, I used a portable
microphone on many occasions too to ensure that I
could record audio from environments other than the
studio/classroom environment. For example I would
use the portable microphone to record people outside,
to include the background outside noise which would
create the sense of the recorded person being in an
outside environment where it was necessary, such as
with special reporters and special guests.
3. Audacity was an incredibly beneficial piece of software for the production
of my broadcast because I used this to record my whole radio news bulletin
and utilised its many features to get my show to sound as professional as
possible.Audacity provided me with the ability to arrange all my audio in
the desired order and tracks and gave me a number of options to use so
that I could edit my show to sound as it suited me. Some of the features of
this software are:
The time shift tool The envelope tool The amplification effect
This allowed me to move
different selections of audio
around to place them in the
desired location in the
broadcast.
This allowed me alter the
volume of specific parts of
audio to change, for
example, to allow music to
fade to a halt.
This allowed me to
change the overall
volume of a piece of
audio to either become
louder or quieter.
4. The technology of Audacity taught me a lot about
the construction process of my broadcast because I
used a combination of technological devices, such
as a microphone, to utilise Audacity to the best of
my capabilities. With the whole process, I learnt a
lot about what goes into creating these broadcasts
which are distributed on a daily basis and now feel
that I have gained an immense amount of
knowledge from using this software.
5. Freesound.org was a useful website which allowed me to
search from a huge number of available sound effects and
pieces of audio which I then could incorporate into my
broadcast. The sound which I obtained from this website was
recorded and then added to my broadcast on audacity at the
required areas, for example, to be playing at the same time
as a presenter’s speech. In its search box, I could search a
relevant key word to what type of sound effect I am seeking
then browse through a number of sounds associated with
the key word to find what suited my show best.
6. Blogger was a useful application in allowing me to
document and record down each process of the
construction of my broadcast. In doing this, I could
review every step of the creation of my show and
assess what was necessary to do to develop it to a
higher standard. For example, Blogger was used to
upload my preliminary task and from there I could
see what was done well the first time and use that for
my radio broadcast, then I could assess what I needed
to do better and improve upon this for the
construction of the radio news broadcast
7. Soundcloud is a social platform which shares audio of all types,
on a daily basis, whether it’s music or it’s radio news. Soundcloud
allowed me to upload my local radio news broadcast to present
to the public to listen to, along with other audio content. This
platform was vital because it allowed me to have a means of
distributing my constructed content.
8. GarageBand was a software
which was briefly used to
construct my show because
it allowed me to create a
jingle and title music for my
show. With its large variety
of sounds presented as loops
I was able to experiment
with different sounds to
create what sounded most
suitable for a professional
news broadcast,
