1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
tasks?
2. Main Product
• My main product is a music video I created of the pop genre called ‘Lego
House’ by Ed Sheeran and P Money.
• My video is based around a character who is having issues in his life,
mostly with his dad and also with himself.
3. Ancillary tasks
• Digipak
• I made a digipak to promote my music video. The digipak is a package
consisting of CD, front cover, back cover and also a booklet.
4. Ancillary tasks
• Magazine advert
• I designed a magazine advert also. I created this by researching into
existing products and basing my advert on this.
6. Representation in digipak
• In both my ancillary tasks I have represented my character the same way he is in
the music video. I have picked out shots where Karl looks withdrawn and sad to
amplify the mood of the main task.
• In my digipak, the front cover shows Karl looking down with both of his hands held
together on his lap. I feel that with his hands held represents Karl as a humble and
also insecure. He is looking down away from the camera to suggest loneliness and
also his withdrawn attitude to life because of the argument with his dad.
7. Representation in advert
For my advert I have decided to use a more advanced editing technique to duplicate Karl
to show him looking at himself. This suggests that Karl is looking for himself in a mental
point of view, trying to find where he went wrong in his life and why he is sad, he is
trying to find happiness in himself.
8. Representation in video
In the video Karl is represented much the same as he is in the digipak and advert.
There are a number of shots showing him alone, and walking round. This represents
his sadness and loneliness. Him walking a round suggests that he is wandering round
in search of himself.
There is a shot of Karl sitting on top of a mountain with a village behind him this
represents his isolation from everyone and how he is alone.
9. Target audience
• For the video the targeted audience are older teenagers as
the lyrics are very meaningful and they could possibly relate
towards them in some way. I feel fun songs with less of a
meaning would apply more to younger ages.
• The magazine would be targeted towards the same people
although the magazine advert contains more colour which
would attract younger audiences.
• The digipak I feel would attract the same audience as the
black and white colours will make them feel more attached to
the actual visual story instead of the song itself.
10. Improvements
• If I were to do this again I would add some sort of brand
identity to all my products. I would do this to create a strong
link between all of my products. Such as logos and colour
schemes.
• I would also add more references towards social media
websites.
• I would also create a more complex design for my magazine
advert. I would probably use a different image too.
• I would use more variety in the images of my digipack. For
example more images of the main character.
11. Real Marketing Campaign
• I think my campaign would work to some extent as a
marketing campaign. I say this because to produce something
like this and for it to work it would need some sort of brand
identity as well as a logo to use which would relate to the
desensitisation theory. Although I think my campaign is
effective due to it all converging and putting out a singular
message I still think that the visual aspect could be improved.
My theme of isolation though is apparent which will
familiarize with the audience throughout and I believe that
my digipak and advert will have the same effect on the
audience as the music video does.
12. Marketing the track
• I think all together my products would combine well to market
for my music track. There are lots of images of Karl the main
character throughout and this will give the audience I believe
some sort of connection with him. The theme throughout is
easily identified with the use of relevant images such as these.
