The document discusses how the creator effectively combined their music video, digipak, and magazine advertisement through consistent themes, conventions, and imagery. Key elements that were carried over include the artist's style, props, technological and natural themes, and footage from the music video. Font choices, color schemes, and close-up shots of the artist were used to create recognition and familiarity across the products while representing different aspects of the artist's personality and the themes of the work.
1. How effective is the combination of
your music video with your digipak
and magazine advertisement?
Sanan Barissal
2. • When planning my digipak and magazine
advert I researched many others of the indie/
pop genre in order to find out the most used
codes and conventions.
• I chose to effectively combine my products by
sticking to consistent themes and conventions
throughout the three products such as the
artist’s style, props used and the themes.
4. • I designed my CD disk to clearly represent the
technological theme by including minimal detail
in order to remind the audience of the
technological changes which are seen in the
music video.
6. • I used a QR code in order to effectively
combine my Magazine advert to my music
video because by scanning the QR code the
audience are able to watch the music video as
well as watch other performances which
increases my artist’s fan base.
7. • I chose to use the same large bold font which is
seen in the opening credits of my music video
when creating my magazine advertisement as not
only is the boldness easy to read and easily
recognisable but it also signifies female
empowerment.
• In addition, it insinuates the individuality of the
artist in comparison to other artists of the indie/
pop genre.
8. • However, when creating my digipak I chose to use a
‘Blackadder ITC’ font because the squiggly
handwriting has resemblance to that used in diary
entries which creates a sense of personal
interaction between the artist and the audience.
• It also insinuates that the digipak is special which is
why the handwriting style font is not used on the
magazine advertisement where everyone can see it.
It also represents the artist’s girly and feminine side
in contrast to the domineering side portrayed in the
video which represents her versatility.
9. • It also insinuates that the digipak is special
which is why the handwriting style font is not
used on the magazine advertisement where
everyone can see it. It also represents the
artist’s girly and feminine side in contrast to
the domineering side portrayed in the video
which represents her versatility.
• In addition, the graphological features of the
daisies on the disc represent the artist’s
youthful character and they are typical
symbols to be scribbled over a diary.
10. • I wanted to synergise my products in order to
familiarise the audience with each product
related to the artist. I did this by creating a
consistent theme which was evident by
looking at my digipak and magazine
advertisement and is reflected in my music
video.
11. • I also did this by using footage from my music
video as still image shots in my magazine
advertisement and digipak.
I removed the old age effect when creating my
magazine advertisement in order to improve the
quality of the image and make it look clearer. I also
kept the increased saturation as it promotes the artist
as a star from another era.
12. Colour Scheme
• I decided to use colours of a low key lighting
such as grey and darker colours to represent
the technological theme which is evident by
looking at my digipak.
• I contrasted this by using brighter neutral and
pastel colours such as green and pink to
represent the natural theme as well as wide
shots of the fields in the mise- en –scene in
both my magazine advertisement and digipak
to show the strong rural themes which are
present in my music video
13. • I used close up images of the artist in my
magazine advertisement and digipak in order
to familiarise the audience with the look and
style of the artist so they recognise her
merchandise and so that if they saw any of
her other work they would instantly
distinguish it.
14. • The front and back panel of my digipak reflect
the start and end of my music video as the
artist is facing the audience at the start of the
audience, however more towards the end she
starts to face the other way as if she is running
back into the past because she doesn’t like the
effects technology has on the present tense
which is expressed through the back panel.
