1. 1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
Evaluation
2. The media platform I chose to use to create my
short film is Windows MovieMaker. The reason
why I chose Windows MovieMaker is because it
is easy to use and offers a variety of ways to edit
and present my media product. To create my
short film poster I used Microsoft Word. It
allowed me to edit the photograph and arrange
the title and other information easily. It also has
a variety of fonts which I could use. However,
some of the features are limited. I also used
Microsoft Word to create my magazine review
as it allowed me to arrange the title and body of
the review in a way which looked realistic.
3. The genre of my short film is a horror/thriller. The
stereotypical conventions of the horror/thriller
genre include low key lighting, isolated locations,
variety of different camera angles to better
represent emotions and thoughts, dark colours
such as black and red and the use or props and
costumes such as knives, guns and masks.
Conventions of the horror genre which I use in my
own work include low key lighting, the use of dark
colours in the costumes such as Jo’s hoodie and also
the use of props such as the knife which Jo uses. I
also tried to use camera angles and shots which
would represent how the characters are feeling
throughout the whole film.
4. Many horror/thriller films are set in historic
times so they aren’t representative of modern
day. I set my short film in the 21st Century and
based it around video games which is something
many people are familiar with but isn’t
something many films of this genre include. The
forms and conventions I used in my media
product have proven successful in portraying the
genre. I demonstrated the conventions through
costumes and props, lighting, camera angles and
music.
