Have you ever watched a horror filmso
unnerving that you haven’t been able to
stop thinking about it for days? Beth
Carberry’s newest short film‘Behind The
Screen’ will do just that.
Based in the 21st century, this short film
takes what would seem like a seemingly
innocent everyday activity and gives it a
very chilling twist. The first part of the
filmshows two friends playing an online
game together. As one becomes
increasingly annoyed with the other, he
tells her she is going to regret killinghim
in the game. As the filmcontinues, Holly
(Holly Thomson) is home alone when a
series of strange thingsoccur in her
home. The audience becomes more and
more on edge as each second passes by,
and the feeling of unease is not helped
by the choice of music and the fast
paced editing. The music perfectly helps
further portray the urgency of the
situation Holly finds herself in.

The plot of the filmis similar
to an everyday situation
almost everyone can relate to
on some level, which makes it
even more terrifying. It also
helps to raise awareness of
the possible dangers that can
occur with online gaming, as
similar situations have
already occurred in real life.
The way it is portrayed
through different elements
including the lightingand
costumes helps to further
address the topic in a realistic
way.The film has been edited in such a way that the
character’s thoughts and emotions are extremely clear to
the audience and helps themfeel more invested in the
characters and what is happening on screen. Both Jo
Carberry and Holly Thomson have done well at portraying
their characters and help to create the eerie atmosphere
horror audiences crave.
Overall the filmis a must watch for everyone and is
available on YouTube from1st July 2017.
